[0:00] Speaker 1: Get ready.
[0:01] Speaker 2: Yes!
[0:02] Speaker 3: It's Joel Creasy.
[0:04] Speaker 2: Joel Creasy!
[0:05] Speaker 4: With the Joel Creasy Show.
[0:11] Speaker 3: Actually, welcome. Well, first of all, welcome to the Joel
[0:14] Speaker 3: Creasy Show podcast. But actually, I'm going to pick up
[0:16] Speaker 3: my iced coffee as I drink this because I like
[0:20] Speaker 3: to say that there is no more powerful human on
[0:24] Speaker 3: planet Earth than a gay man with a fresh iced coffee.
[0:27] Speaker 4: And.
[0:29] Speaker 3: even more powerful is a gay man with a fresh
[0:32] Speaker 3: iced coffee listening to a bit of Carly Rae Jepsen.
[0:36] Speaker 3: Even my producer, Erin, got a video of me driving
[0:39] Speaker 3: into work the other day, belting out a bit of
[0:41] Speaker 3: cut to the feeling because I love Carly Rae Jepsen.
[0:44] Speaker 3: And a lot of people immediately relate her to the song,
[0:47] Speaker 3: Call Me Maybe, which of course is a huge hit.
[0:49] Speaker 3: But we don't maybe realize just how many hits she
[0:54] Speaker 3: not only has herself, but has written for other people.
[0:57] Speaker 3: She is so insanely talented. She is the, what's the
[1:04] Speaker 3: word I'm looking for? The trophy holder of my greatest
[1:08] Speaker 3: concert experience of my life. Although I must say Bruno Mars,
[1:11] Speaker 3: the other weekend is very much up there. But a
[1:13] Speaker 3: few years ago, I went to see Carly Rae Jepsen
[1:16] Speaker 3: perform at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne. And it was
[1:17] Speaker 3: just one of those nights where the stars aligned. She
[1:20] Speaker 3: puts on such a great show and it was, yeah,
[1:23] Speaker 3: it was the greatest concert I've ever been to. And like,
[1:27] Speaker 3: it's just probably wasn't what I was expecting. You know,
[1:30] Speaker 3: you kind of, you know, when you buy a ticket
[1:32] Speaker 3: to see Lady Gaga and you're organizing your costume in advance.
[1:35] Speaker 3: And yes, it was one of the greatest concerts also
[1:37] Speaker 3: I've ever been to, but I don't know. There was
[1:38] Speaker 3: just something about it that was so special. And I
[1:41] Speaker 3: let Carly Rae know about that in this chat. I
[1:43] Speaker 3: think that's when I properly fell in love with her
[1:45] Speaker 3: greatest song of all time. Uh, cut, um, uh, Call
[1:49] Speaker 3: me maybe, you know, all well and good. But cut
[1:51] Speaker 3: to the feeling is just such a banger, such a bop,
[1:56] Speaker 3: as the kids say. Carly Rae and I met when
[1:59] Speaker 3: we were presenting together at the 2019 ARIA Awards because
[2:04] Speaker 3: there was a period there at the ARIA Awards where
[2:06] Speaker 3: they would put the international pop star with me because
[2:11] Speaker 3: they'd be like, oh, you'll be safe with her. Just,
[2:13] Speaker 3: you know, he'll, you know, flap about and he's got
[2:16] Speaker 3: a nasal voice and a limp wrist. You'll be fine.
[2:18] Speaker 3: And Carly Rae and I got on like a house
[2:19] Speaker 3: on fire, and she remembered me. I was so stoked
[2:22] Speaker 3: because I just absolutely adore her. Her new album, Day
[2:26] Speaker 3: and Night, it's a double album. It's brilliant. It literally
[2:30] Speaker 3: takes you from day to night. Comes out September 18,
[2:32] Speaker 3: and I insist you get it because she is my
[2:35] Speaker 3: best friend in the whole entire world. I jumped at
[2:39] Speaker 3: the opportunity to chat to pop icon diva, mother legend queen. Yes,
[2:44] Speaker 3: hang on. One more celebratory sip of iced coffee for
[2:47] Speaker 3: Carly Rae. Please enjoy my chat with the iconic Carly
[2:53] Speaker 3: Rae Jepsen.
[2:54] Speaker 2: This is the Joel Creasy Show.
[2:56] Speaker 3: Carly, because you and I presented together at the 2019
[2:59] Speaker 3: ARIA Awards, I have joked... ever since that we're best friends.
[3:05] Speaker 3: Am I allowed to keep doing that joke?
[3:06] Speaker 1: I mean, we clearly are, though.
[3:09] Speaker 3: I'm like, I am obsessed. Yeah, so let's do a
[3:11] Speaker 3: bestie catch-up. How have you been since we last, you know,
[3:13] Speaker 3: had our little catch-up in 2019?
[3:15] Speaker 4: Oh, you know, got married, had a baby.
[3:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, congrats on that.
[3:20] Speaker 1: We did a double amor.
[3:22] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[3:23] Speaker 3: I know. And you had the baby in March very recently?
[3:26] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[3:26] Speaker 1: Very recently.
[3:27] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[3:28] Speaker 4: He is coming up on six months and a week,
[3:31] Speaker 4: which is wild to me. They say like you blank
[3:35] Speaker 4: and he's an adult man and I get it now.
[3:37] Speaker 4: Like I'm like, slow down, sir. Yeah.
[3:40] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, but you're releasing albums and stuff, so
[3:43] Speaker 3: people could say the same to you. Okay, touche. Well,
[3:49] Speaker 3: I have to say since we presented together, I mean,
[3:52] Speaker 3: I've always been a mad fan, but this is on record.
[3:56] Speaker 3: I'm not just saying this because we're chatting right now.
[3:59] Speaker 3: I saw you perform at the Forum Theatre here in
[4:01] Speaker 3: Melbourne and I thought I couldn't go because I was
[4:05] Speaker 3: on tour at the time and then I happened to
[4:07] Speaker 3: have the night free on My mate had a ticket.
[4:10] Speaker 3: I was like, yes, I'll come. I shit you not, Carly.
[4:13] Speaker 3: It is the best concert I've ever been to. I've
[4:16] Speaker 3: been saying it ever since. Wow.
[4:20] Speaker 1: I don't even know what to say.
[4:20] Speaker 5: Thank you.
[4:21] Speaker 1: That's amazing. Wow. That's, that's a lot. And you go
[4:26] Speaker 1: to a lot of shows. So I feel extremely honored.
[4:29] Speaker 3: I mean, like, and the whole bestie thing doesn't play
[4:31] Speaker 3: into it. Although I did, I did say to my friend,
[4:34] Speaker 3: we follow each other on Instagram and I sent you
[4:35] Speaker 3: a message being like, Hey Carly, I'm in the crowd.
[4:39] Speaker 3: Like as if you were going to be checking your
[4:41] Speaker 3: phone two minutes before going on. Yeah. Joel's here.
[4:44] Speaker 4: Oh no, that is, that is amazing. I, um, I,
[4:51] Speaker 4: I don't, I have to say like, My, like, favorite
[4:54] Speaker 4: all-time shows, they stick out to me as, like, a
[4:57] Speaker 4: moment in time where, like, I don't think anything else
[5:01] Speaker 4: in life where it's.
[5:02] Speaker 1: A good movie. I mean, musicals.
[5:04] Speaker 4: I do like a good musical, though, too. But I
[5:06] Speaker 4: love going to a great show. In fact, you know
[5:08] Speaker 4: who I'm going to go see soon? Yeah, who?
[5:10] Speaker 1: It's Robin. I'm very, very excited. I think I say
[5:13] Speaker 1: Robin and Beck back-to-back. Like, night one, night two.
[5:16] Speaker 2: How awesome is that?
[5:17] Speaker 3: Oh, I'm desperate to see Robin. I remember... Um, when
[5:20] Speaker 3: my American ex dumped me, I went to New York
[5:24] Speaker 3: and was, I was writing a book and I was like,
[5:26] Speaker 3: I'm going to be like Carrie Bradshaw and go and,
[5:28] Speaker 3: you know, write a book. I didn't, I partied every
[5:30] Speaker 3: night and I was, it was my birthday. I was
[5:32] Speaker 3: out on my own dancing on the, oh, where was I?
[5:35] Speaker 3: It was like the stone wall or something crying to
[5:38] Speaker 3: Robbins dancing on my own. And I felt this tap, tap,
[5:40] Speaker 3: tap on the shoulder. And I was like, oh, he's,
[5:43] Speaker 3: he's flown over from LA. Okay. to apologize and take
[5:46] Speaker 3: me back.
[5:47] Speaker 1: Of course. And he knew exactly where you were.
[5:50] Speaker 3: Babe, it wasn't him. It was like this lovely lesbian
[5:53] Speaker 3: asking for me to move out of the way so
[5:54] Speaker 3: she could get to the bathroom.
[5:56] Speaker 1: Oh, that story could have gone. I thought you were
[5:59] Speaker 1: going to say it was Robin for a second. I
[6:00] Speaker 1: was like, that's amazing.
[6:02] Speaker 3: But you're like, okay, when you go, I mean, we're
[6:05] Speaker 3: going to talk about your incredible music in a second.
[6:07] Speaker 3: But when you go to Robin, are these artists freaking
[6:11] Speaker 3: out that Carly Rae's in the crowd?
[6:14] Speaker 2: Oh, probably not.
[6:15] Speaker 4: I mean, I, I don't think anyone can do anything
[6:18] Speaker 4: other than bow down to Robin.
[6:19] Speaker 3: She's the queen.
[6:20] Speaker 1: She's kind of how we.
[6:21] Speaker 4: All, um, I, I think like some of her work
[6:24] Speaker 4: is some of my favorite music of all time.
[6:26] Speaker 1: She's up there with the greats of like Prince to me.
[6:29] Speaker 3: I agree. I love that you love music musicals as well.
[6:32] Speaker 3: I think I saw you. I didn't know this. It
[6:34] Speaker 3: was just on my sheet. I saw Cinderella on Broadway
[6:38] Speaker 3: in 2014.
[6:40] Speaker 1: I did.
[6:41] Speaker 3: Was this with like Marla Mandel and stuff?
[6:44] Speaker 1: I was doing it.
[6:45] Speaker 4: With Fran Drescher, who was my stepmom.
[6:48] Speaker 3: I saw you.
[6:49] Speaker 2: I saw you.
[6:51] Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh.
[6:54] Speaker 1: Well, of course you did. We're besties.
[6:57] Speaker 3: We're best friends. You were amazing. Would you do more musicals?
[7:04] Speaker 4: I mean, I hope to, but in a different way.
[7:06] Speaker 4: I'm currently actually working on writing the music for a
[7:12] Speaker 4: musical for 10 Things I.
[7:13] Speaker 1: Hate About You. I know.
[7:15] Speaker 3: I know you are. Because my best friend is Heath
[7:18] Speaker 3: Ledger's sister. And so that movie was, yeah, weird.
[7:22] Speaker 1: What?
[7:22] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[7:23] Speaker 3: And so that musical is such a massive, movie rather,
[7:27] Speaker 3: is such a massive part of our life. And I
[7:30] Speaker 3: actually messaged her the other day when the announcement came out,
[7:32] Speaker 3: because she lives in New York. And I said, I'm
[7:34] Speaker 3: going to have to come over for this. And now
[7:36] Speaker 3: that you're writing the music, it's like all my best
[7:38] Speaker 3: friends colliding.
[7:40] Speaker 1: I know. That project's such a dream project.
[7:44] Speaker 4: I mean, the.
[7:46] Speaker 1: Movie, were you like a fan? It was like cult classic. Yes.
[7:50] Speaker 3: I love you, baby, in the bleachers. Oh, my gosh.
[7:54] Speaker 5: I know.
[7:55] Speaker 4: That like trumps every dreamy high school experience one could have.
[7:59] Speaker 4: You just want a man to serenade you and embarrass himself.
[8:01] Speaker 1: Come on.
[8:02] Speaker 3: Yeah. So anyways.
[8:05] Speaker 4: It'll be very fun to do it from like a
[8:06] Speaker 4: different angle though.
[8:07] Speaker 1: Like I loved, don't get me wrong. It was very
[8:09] Speaker 1: fun to be a princess every night.
[8:11] Speaker 4: But I'm really looking forward to getting to kind of
[8:15] Speaker 4: help build this world that I love so much and
[8:18] Speaker 4: kind of, it's so separate from my own project and
[8:21] Speaker 4: my own music. Cause it's sort of based in the nineties,
[8:24] Speaker 4: but it's nineties pop and musical. It's a different language altogether,
[8:27] Speaker 4: but I honestly can't wait.
[8:28] Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, when I saw you were attached, I was like, Oh,
[8:30] Speaker 3: thank God. Cause that movie means a lot to me.
[8:32] Speaker 3: So I cannot wait.
[8:34] Speaker 1: It means a lot to us all.
[8:36] Speaker 4: I think, yeah, it's something to handle with care, but
[8:38] Speaker 4: we intend to do the best we can with it.
[8:40] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[8:41] Speaker 3: Now let's talk about your music.
[8:43] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[8:43] Speaker 3: I mean, you can explain day and night better than
[8:46] Speaker 3: I can, but I love, I love the, like what
[8:49] Speaker 3: you've done with it.
[8:50] Speaker 1: Like, can I though? I feel like I'm so bad
[8:53] Speaker 1: at explaining day and night. I'm going to try.
[8:55] Speaker 3: Okay. You try and then I can, I can help
[8:57] Speaker 3: you if you need me to.
[8:58] Speaker 1: Yes.
[8:59] Speaker 2: Yes.
[9:00] Speaker 3: Yes.
[9:00] Speaker 1: Cause you've heard it. Yeah.
[9:03] Speaker 2: Oh, thank you.
[9:03] Speaker 1: So day is... Day is a bit more organic. And
[9:08] Speaker 1: it's dreamy.
[9:10] Speaker 4: It's a little psychedelic folky pop. Huh? Yeah.
[9:13] Speaker 3: Tick, tick.
[9:14] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[9:14] Speaker 3: No, you're doing well so far.
[9:16] Speaker 1: And it still has, hopefully, some energy.
[9:20] Speaker 4: But it's something to kind of move you through a
[9:23] Speaker 4: day with a bit more romance.
[9:25] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[9:25] Speaker 1: Romance in the mundane, you know? Yeah. And the nighttime... Nighttime.
[9:30] Speaker 4: Those same emotions that you're experiencing in the day are
[9:32] Speaker 4: just heightened and everything's.
[9:34] Speaker 1: Slightly more dramatic. And now it's like a little synth
[9:37] Speaker 1: based and darker.
[9:38] Speaker 4: And it's not like an 11 out of 10 energy
[9:40] Speaker 4: all the time, but there are those moments.
[9:43] Speaker 1: And it's a good album.
[9:44] Speaker 4: To maybe dance alone in your house unabashedly and like.
[9:49] Speaker 1: Be transported somewhere European.
[9:51] Speaker 3: We were just dancing. Well, I mean, yeah. I mean,
[9:53] Speaker 3: there's a song called a mouthy so that that helps
[9:56] Speaker 3: um but we were just dancing in studio to no
[9:58] Speaker 3: labels i love how did i.
[9:59] Speaker 4: Do that was the most indulgent explanation of day and
[10:03] Speaker 4: night that i've ever.
[10:03] Speaker 1: Given before i just like went for it.
[10:05] Speaker 3: It's me babe it's me and you nailed it like
[10:09] Speaker 3: no notes.
[10:12] Speaker 4: It's so hard to talk about one's own music and
[10:14] Speaker 4: put it into words.
[10:15] Speaker 1: You kind of just want to be like, I don't know.
[10:17] Speaker 1: You tell me what it is.
[10:17] Speaker 3: You take a listen. I'll tell you what it is.
[10:19] Speaker 3: And forgive me for saying this. It's brilliant is what
[10:22] Speaker 3: it is.
[10:25] Speaker 2: The Joel Gracie Show.
[10:26] Speaker 3: So your dream 24 hours, is it like doing something?
[10:29] Speaker 3: Or are you like, let me bed rot?
[10:33] Speaker 5: Oh, gosh.
[10:34] Speaker 1: I mean, well, it's hilarious that you say the bed
[10:35] Speaker 1: rot thing because....
[10:38] Speaker 4: When I was listening back to what I had made,
[10:40] Speaker 4: I started chuckling at how many moments in the album
[10:44] Speaker 4: I just like romanticize and fantasize about sleeping all day.
[10:48] Speaker 3: You're a new mom.
[10:50] Speaker 1: I wasn't at.
[10:51] Speaker 4: The time, but if I felt it then, I feel
[10:54] Speaker 4: it more now.
[10:55] Speaker 1: I'm like, what a concept.
[10:57] Speaker 4: It'll be like, I'll just be like talking to a
[10:58] Speaker 4: guy in my song and I'm like, and.
[11:00] Speaker 1: We could sleep all day.
[11:03] Speaker 4: And we can just lay in bed all day long
[11:05] Speaker 4: for like three days.
[11:06] Speaker 1: Like that's my idea. I'm just like a good time.
[11:08] Speaker 1: I was like, are you okay?
[11:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with you. Because in Habits of Creatures, you
[11:15] Speaker 3: talk about shower and then take a walk. Are you
[11:17] Speaker 3: talking about having a shower together? Because I have thoughts
[11:19] Speaker 3: on that. Yes.
[11:21] Speaker 1: I'm a big, I'm a big fan of a big shower.
[11:23] Speaker 4: That's, I feel like most of my conversations with my
[11:26] Speaker 4: husband happen in the shower. We're like, what are we
[11:28] Speaker 4: doing today?
[11:33] Speaker 3: See, if I was in the shower, Mike, like we
[11:35] Speaker 3: tried me, my fiance and I were like, you're, you're
[11:38] Speaker 3: petite and gorgeous. Like we're just two men in the shower. Like,
[11:42] Speaker 3: and no one's looking like flattering, you know, like when
[11:44] Speaker 3: they're like, Hey, can you pass me the conditioner? Yeah.
[11:48] Speaker 1: I mean, you know what, though? I feel like... Here's
[11:51] Speaker 1: the thing.
[11:51] Speaker 4: I have a very specific relationship to showers, and I
[11:54] Speaker 4: don't know where I'm going with this, so just follow
[11:56] Speaker 4: me for a hot second.
[11:57] Speaker 3: I will follow you into war.
[11:58] Speaker 1: Okay, well, God bless. But I.
[12:03] Speaker 4: I feel like I have been in some of the dirtiest, craziest,
[12:07] Speaker 4: smallest showers in the world just because of the touring life.
[12:09] Speaker 3: Of course.
[12:09] Speaker 1: So it's a very well-known fact, but.
[12:11] Speaker 4: You can be at a stadium and you're like in
[12:13] Speaker 4: a hockey shower that night before you get on the
[12:14] Speaker 4: bus again.
[12:15] Speaker 1: And those things are dire. Like you've got to like,
[12:18] Speaker 1: you've got to make.
[12:18] Speaker 4: Like a nest with like the towels.
[12:20] Speaker 1: And like set it up.
[12:22] Speaker 4: So if I'm at home and I have a chance
[12:24] Speaker 4: to have like a nice shower, I'm I have been
[12:27] Speaker 4: known to like sit in there for too long just
[12:28] Speaker 4: because I know what it's like on the other side.
[12:31] Speaker 4: Like I remember touring too well, but I'm like the
[12:34] Speaker 4: hot water is working.
[12:35] Speaker 3: I get it. I once did a big show and
[12:41] Speaker 3: then after I was staying in this motel and the
[12:43] Speaker 3: room had six beds in one room. I'm like, it
[12:46] Speaker 3: was so gross to see. Why do we need six beds?
[12:49] Speaker 1: Nobody needs six beds. I have so many questions that
[12:53] Speaker 1: I don't want answered.
[12:54] Speaker 3: I don't want them answered either because I had to
[12:56] Speaker 3: sleep the night in there. And On Wires is very flirty.
[13:02] Speaker 3: Do you, like, I mean, you're a musician, so you've
[13:08] Speaker 3: got that. I feel like as a comic, I'm just
[13:10] Speaker 3: a bad, I'm just a bad, I once, okay, now
[13:13] Speaker 3: I'm oversharing to you. I once told a guy that
[13:16] Speaker 3: I loved him within an hour of meeting him.
[13:20] Speaker 1: Oh, I think that's hot. Do you? Yes, I really do.
[13:24] Speaker 2: I really do.
[13:25] Speaker 4: This is going to sound like crazy, but I feel
[13:29] Speaker 4: like I feel like when you know, you know, in
[13:32] Speaker 4: a certain way, like you don't know what what's going
[13:35] Speaker 4: to crash and burn or where things are going to go.
[13:36] Speaker 1: But I can tell pretty immediately if I'm going to
[13:39] Speaker 1: fall in love with somebody.
[13:40] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[13:41] Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, no.
[13:42] Speaker 1: I'm in big trouble and that's exciting.
[13:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I didn't, just spoiler alert.
[13:49] Speaker 3: Like I can't even remember his name, but I totally
[13:52] Speaker 3: know what you mean. And then motivation. I always look
[13:56] Speaker 3: for a song on an album. I'm such a cliche.
[14:00] Speaker 3: I love a spin class and I can see myself like,
[14:04] Speaker 3: because I love anytime you come on at spin, but
[14:07] Speaker 3: I can see that being like a new staple. But
[14:10] Speaker 3: I'm assuming it's not about working out.
[14:14] Speaker 1: Well, first of all, good for you for the spin class.
[14:16] Speaker 3: I mean, anything, I.
[14:18] Speaker 1: Mean, give me that motivation. Never thought of it that way,
[14:21] Speaker 1: but Hey, coming from a girl who does not exercise recently,
[14:25] Speaker 1: I could, I could use a little of that. Um, no, that's,
[14:28] Speaker 1: that's amazing.
[14:29] Speaker 4: I feel like there's a certain type of music that
[14:31] Speaker 4: I want to listen to when I'm in that place
[14:34] Speaker 4: in my life where I'm exercising, which I'm hoping comes back,
[14:37] Speaker 4: you know, Yeah.
[14:38] Speaker 1: Into the cycle soon. That would be nice. But I'm
[14:41] Speaker 1: not there right now.
[14:41] Speaker 4: Right now, a slow walk and I'm set.
[14:44] Speaker 2: I love a slow walk.
[14:45] Speaker 3: Yeah, a shower and then take a walk. I know.
[14:48] Speaker 3: I heard it on the album.
[14:49] Speaker 1: It's a very lazy existence.
[14:52] Speaker 3: You are so busy. So like we had a like,
[14:57] Speaker 3: like every day because I'm when I host this show.
[15:00] Speaker 3: I get like, um, like what the day is and
[15:02] Speaker 3: it could be like national margarita day or international, like
[15:05] Speaker 3: there's a day for everything. And there was, yeah, yeah. Well,
[15:09] Speaker 3: there was, um, it was international mother day. And, um,
[15:12] Speaker 3: so we played you because you are mother. Um, you
[15:17] Speaker 3: have such like you, your relationship to the gay community
[15:21] Speaker 3: is so cool and you are such a such an ally.
[15:25] Speaker 3: And can you, can you explain that? Or is it
[15:28] Speaker 3: just something that we've kind of just, we've just drawn
[15:31] Speaker 3: to you?
[15:35] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[15:35] Speaker 4: I can't explain, but I can explain that I feel
[15:39] Speaker 4: like I found my home in my community and it
[15:43] Speaker 4: feels like, I don't know, I feel like we met
[15:46] Speaker 4: maybe at a motion on and it's just been like
[15:48] Speaker 4: the gift of my life. And I've always, I've always
[15:52] Speaker 4: felt like if you come to one of the shows,
[15:54] Speaker 4: what I love about the connectivity of music is I
[15:57] Speaker 4: feel like you get to like leave knowing more.
[15:59] Speaker 1: People, hopefully, if we've done the show right.
[16:02] Speaker 4: And it's some of like, the people that come to
[16:04] Speaker 4: the shows are some of the coolest, kindest, just Swedish. Like,
[16:08] Speaker 4: I've always felt like I could go on stage and
[16:09] Speaker 4: just like fall on my ass and they'd.
[16:11] Speaker 1: Be like, get up, girl.
[16:12] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
[16:13] Speaker 3: We're like, slay, slay.
[16:15] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[16:15] Speaker 4: Yeah. Which is just, I, and thank God too, because
[16:19] Speaker 4: I'm just, I am that person who probably will fall.
[16:22] Speaker 1: You know?
[16:22] Speaker 4: And so it's made me feel the love and support
[16:26] Speaker 4: to get up and be more and more comfortable just
[16:29] Speaker 4: being myself. I think that's, that's the message really with
[16:32] Speaker 4: motivation too.
[16:33] Speaker 3: Yeah. I think that's maybe what made your concert genuinely
[16:37] Speaker 3: my favorite of all time. It was the crowd as well.
[16:39] Speaker 3: It was just so joyous. And like, I remember the
[16:42] Speaker 3: person I was with and we just walked out on
[16:44] Speaker 3: such a high.
[16:47] Speaker 4: Well, that has always been the weird thing is that
[16:50] Speaker 4: I feel like I have the best vantage.
[16:51] Speaker 1: Like the view that I have is the best view
[16:54] Speaker 1: in the house. And I know I sometimes forget my role.
[16:57] Speaker 3: In it a little bit.
[16:59] Speaker 1: I just get to like be a conductor of good energy, really.
[17:02] Speaker 1: And it's the best. It's the best job ever.
[17:04] Speaker 4: I can be in a weird mood that day. Things
[17:07] Speaker 4: can be going like, you know, sideways for me. And
[17:11] Speaker 4: then I get on stage and I swear I can
[17:12] Speaker 4: forget everything. everything and just really appreciate the moment for
[17:17] Speaker 4: what it is I've been known to like accidentally like
[17:20] Speaker 4: get like a cut and have like glass in my
[17:22] Speaker 4: foot and.
[17:23] Speaker 1: Then you go on stage and like you don't.
[17:24] Speaker 4: Feel it it's just like for some reason there's just
[17:28] Speaker 4: a different energy that takes over and I really think.
[17:31] Speaker 3: That that's the crowd yeah no totally it's like it's
[17:33] Speaker 3: the best therapy for us yeah.
[17:37] Speaker 2: The Joel Gracie Show.
[17:39] Speaker 3: You also have like the greatest song of all time,
[17:41] Speaker 3: Cut to the Feeling. Is there, and when that song
[17:44] Speaker 3: comes on, like I request it here all the time.
[17:47] Speaker 3: Every time I'm out on a dance floor, like there's
[17:49] Speaker 3: a DJ actually in Melbourne that like knows when I
[17:52] Speaker 3: come like stumbling up to him after a few white wines.
[17:54] Speaker 3: He's like, yes, I'm going to play Cut to the Feeling.
[17:58] Speaker 3: Does that ever not go off when you perform it?
[18:02] Speaker 4: You know, it's funny because for years we'd always close
[18:06] Speaker 4: with Call Me Maybe. And then we switched it up
[18:08] Speaker 4: for Cut to the Feeling one time. And it had
[18:10] Speaker 4: like a bigger impact. So that's generally now. The tradition
[18:14] Speaker 4: is we close the show with Cut to the Feeling.
[18:16] Speaker 4: And I always get handed a bunch of swords.
[18:18] Speaker 1: It's very strange.
[18:19] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[18:20] Speaker 1: But love it.
[18:21] Speaker 4: Great.
[18:21] Speaker 3: Because I wanted to ask about the swords. And then
[18:23] Speaker 3: I was like, am I going to seem... Like to
[18:25] Speaker 3: my best friend, like I'm not in on everything. What's
[18:28] Speaker 3: with the swords?
[18:29] Speaker 1: What is with the swords? You know, I had the
[18:32] Speaker 1: same question.
[18:33] Speaker 4: But when I say that the community has embraced and
[18:37] Speaker 4: also has like, I don't know, come at me with
[18:40] Speaker 4: their best jokes, so much humor that I love, which
[18:42] Speaker 4: if you know me, I like live to laugh.
[18:44] Speaker 1: So one of the things that happened online, I learned
[18:47] Speaker 1: this after the.
[18:48] Speaker 4: Fact, was somebody made a petition online. to give me
[18:51] Speaker 4: a sword. I, I, I know.
[18:54] Speaker 1: It's as absurd as it sounds.
[18:56] Speaker 4: And, and then I guess it, with the whole, the whole,
[18:58] Speaker 4: it was a lot of signatures, apparently.
[19:01] Speaker 1: And then it happened. And so at the show, I
[19:04] Speaker 1: was given a sword.
[19:05] Speaker 4: And, um, I was just as baffled as anybody would be,
[19:10] Speaker 4: but I raised the sword and now I have more swords.
[19:15] Speaker 1: I could make like, you know, in Game of Thrones, how.
[19:17] Speaker 4: They have like, I could make like an inflatable version
[19:22] Speaker 4: of them from the amount.
[19:23] Speaker 1: Of inflatable festivals. There was one show where I had
[19:26] Speaker 1: like seven swords and I was like, what, this is
[19:27] Speaker 1: getting out of hand.
[19:29] Speaker 3: I remember exactly, like, you know, and then because when
[19:31] Speaker 3: you have that favorite concert, I remember that exact moment.
[19:34] Speaker 3: I know exactly where on the stage you were. singing
[19:36] Speaker 3: cut to the feeling. I'm there with a friend, like
[19:39] Speaker 3: having the time of life. And there you are with
[19:40] Speaker 3: a sword. Like I can actually picture it.
[19:42] Speaker 4: I mean, these traditions, you couldn't imagine them if you tried,
[19:46] Speaker 4: They become part of the show and it's amazing.
[19:50] Speaker 3: And also, day and night, you wrote with your husband?
[19:57] Speaker 4: I did.
[19:58] Speaker 3: That's so convenient because my fiancé said the other day,
[20:01] Speaker 3: maybe I could manage you. And I was like, bro,
[20:03] Speaker 3: if you manage me, I would never work again. Like
[20:06] Speaker 3: how does that relationship work?
[20:10] Speaker 4: I mean, we had to figure it out because, to
[20:13] Speaker 4: be honest, like, it's not as easy as it would sound.
[20:17] Speaker 5: We got to, like, a really good place with it.
[20:19] Speaker 4: But the hilarity of just how real you are with
[20:22] Speaker 4: your partner is just, like, sometimes cutthroat, right?
[20:26] Speaker 1: So if somebody else in a room was like, I've
[20:27] Speaker 1: got this idea, and you're like, oh, yeah.
[20:30] Speaker 3: Right?
[20:31] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[20:32] Speaker 1: With your husband, you're like, I hate it. I hate
[20:34] Speaker 1: it so much. And so then you have to be like, wait, sorry,
[20:38] Speaker 1: did I say that a little harsh?
[20:39] Speaker 3: And you get.
[20:40] Speaker 1: Into being like, wait.
[20:42] Speaker 4: So the two of us, I feel like we knew
[20:44] Speaker 4: couples around us who co-wrote together and who gave up
[20:48] Speaker 4: on it.
[20:49] Speaker 1: They're like, we cannot do it anymore.
[20:50] Speaker 4: We have to save our relationship by not working together
[20:53] Speaker 4: in the studio. But Cole and I actually, I think
[20:56] Speaker 4: a big part of our relationship is is tied into
[21:00] Speaker 4: connection over our.
[21:01] Speaker 1: Love, like, our shared love of music.
[21:03] Speaker 4: So it's, like, as much as I'm, like, joking about the,
[21:06] Speaker 4: you know, the harshness of that moment there, which did happen,
[21:11] Speaker 4: there's other moments that are, like, lovely, where I can.
[21:14] Speaker 1: He knows me so well, and I'm so... not afraid
[21:18] Speaker 1: to be weird.
[21:18] Speaker 4: In front of him that like I can be like
[21:22] Speaker 4: playing with our son in the morning he comes in
[21:23] Speaker 4: and I'm like quick I have an idea and I
[21:25] Speaker 4: just keep thinking he's like grabbing the phone to like
[21:27] Speaker 4: record it and I'm like you know and.
[21:30] Speaker 1: I feel like if I was married to like a
[21:31] Speaker 1: dentist or something they'd be like.
[21:32] Speaker 5: Who did I marry like this girl is just like
[21:35] Speaker 5: crazy but he he gets it and he celebrates it
[21:39] Speaker 5: and to be honest now I feel like since we've
[21:41] Speaker 5: like figured out each other's like way of poaching music,
[21:45] Speaker 5: which is a really different way.
[21:46] Speaker 4: Like I'm a real big lyric girl and I really
[21:50] Speaker 4: like love to get into a story and I can
[21:52] Speaker 4: show him songs that he's loved for years and he
[21:54] Speaker 4: has no idea what the lyrics are like he's just
[21:56] Speaker 4: come from it in a different sonic way but he's
[21:58] Speaker 4: he's able to tell me where like that shaker was
[22:02] Speaker 4: from and where it originated like he's just like a
[22:04] Speaker 4: really different brain about it but now I feel like
[22:07] Speaker 4: he's you know him and I would say my partner
[22:10] Speaker 4: Tavish Crowe who's one of my guitar well my one
[22:13] Speaker 4: and only guitarist literally since we were both kids together
[22:18] Speaker 4: Those are probably my top two most intimate collaborators of
[22:21] Speaker 4: all time where I just feel not fighting to share
[22:24] Speaker 4: my weirdest idea aloud and have it be not only caught,
[22:29] Speaker 4: but then like propelled where they're like, oh my God.
[22:31] Speaker 1: This is great. And you're like, really?
[22:32] Speaker 2: It's not to you?
[22:34] Speaker 1: And like, that's such a gift, right?
[22:36] Speaker 3: Yeah. And if you don't get your way, they know
[22:37] Speaker 3: you've got all those swords. So it's a threat to
[22:39] Speaker 3: threaten them with it.
[22:40] Speaker 4: I do.
[22:41] Speaker 1: I really do.
[22:43] Speaker 3: Thank you so much. I just wanted to like a
[22:45] Speaker 3: day and night is it's fantastic. I'm so excited for
[22:49] Speaker 3: the world to hear it. And I'm just, yeah, you
[22:51] Speaker 3: are so, you're so fantastic. I just, yeah. I'm sure
[22:55] Speaker 3: you hear that all day long, but I truly, truly
[22:57] Speaker 3: mean it. I've said it forever. It was the greatest
[22:59] Speaker 3: concert I've been to. You are such a star and
[23:02] Speaker 3: my best friend in the whole entire world.
[23:05] Speaker 1: Yes, Besty. Well, thank you so much. I'll see you
[23:08] Speaker 1: in New York for 10 things.
[23:10] Speaker 3: Deal. I will be there. And yeah, congratulations. You deserve
[23:15] Speaker 3: the world because you are your mother.
[23:19] Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
[23:21] Speaker 3: See you gorgeous. Bye.
