[0:17] Speaker 1: Junior and the Good Gray Horse by David Cory. Tom
[0:22] Speaker 1: the Piper's Son. Tom was a piper's son. He learned
[0:25] Speaker 1: to play when he was young, but all the tune
[0:28] Speaker 1: that he could play was over the hills and far away. Well,
[0:32] Speaker 1: it's a pretty fine tune, said Puss Junior to himself,
[0:36] Speaker 1: as the strains from Tom's pipe came clear and sweet
[0:38] Speaker 1: across the meadow. I wish I could play as well. Again,
[0:42] Speaker 1: the music came down the breeze, clear and sweet, and
[0:45] Speaker 1: pretty soon Tom came capering toward him, followed by a
[0:49] Speaker 1: crowd of boys and girls. He hoo, laughed Puss. Here
[0:53] Speaker 1: they come, dancing away, as if they had nothing to
[0:56] Speaker 1: do but play all the day long, over the hill
[1:00] Speaker 1: and far away pipe Tom. Good morning, cried Puss. Come
[1:05] Speaker 1: and dance, said the piper son, taking the pipe from
[1:08] Speaker 1: his mouth. Come and have a merry dance. Make those
[1:12] Speaker 1: red top booties prance, then play a merry jig, answered Puss,
[1:16] Speaker 1: catching up a small pig and waltzing him around at
[1:19] Speaker 1: a giddy rate. Hold On, cried the pig. I'm getting dizzy.
[1:24] Speaker 1: I won't let you fall, replied Puss with a grin.
[1:28] Speaker 1: Let go, squeaked the pig. I tell you I'm getting dizzy. Well,
[1:33] Speaker 1: why don't you say let go? At first, laughed Puss,
[1:36] Speaker 1: you said hold on. By this time, the poor pig
[1:40] Speaker 1: was so out of breath that he rolled over on
[1:42] Speaker 1: his side and lay quite still until a small boy said,
[1:46] Speaker 1: your tail is all twisted from dancing around and around. Nonsense,
[1:51] Speaker 1: replied the pig sitting up. Pig's tails are always twisted.
[1:55] Speaker 1: Dancing makes your head go round, but it doesn't curl
[1:58] Speaker 1: your tail. And all of a sudden Tom commenced to
[2:01] Speaker 1: play again. Oh please, don't, cried the breathless pig. I
[2:06] Speaker 1: don't want to dance any more. Tom, with his pipe,
[2:09] Speaker 1: did play with such skill that those who hurt him
[2:12] Speaker 1: could never stand still. Whenever they heard him, they began
[2:15] Speaker 1: to dance. Even pigs on their hind legs would after
[2:18] Speaker 1: him prance, and goodness me, it was such wonderful music
[2:23] Speaker 1: that even Puss couldn't keep still, but must needs dance
[2:26] Speaker 1: with a little girl in a blue dress until Tom
[2:29] Speaker 1: was out of breath and too tired to play any longer.
[2:33] Speaker 1: End of Chapter forty two. Recording by Valentina Vicelli.
