[0:00] Speaker 1: Johnson Wax Program with Fiber McGhee and Molly. The makers
[0:13] Speaker 1: of Johnson Wax products for Home and Industry present Fiber
[0:15] Speaker 1: McGee and Malley, written by Don Quinn and Phil Leslie,
[0:18] Speaker 1: with music by The Kingsmen and Billy Middle's Orchestra. If
[0:44] Speaker 1: one of your friends said to you, I keep house
[0:47] Speaker 1: with wax, would you know what she meant? Well, if
[0:49] Speaker 1: you went over her home room by a room, I
[0:51] Speaker 1: think you would, because in every one of those rooms,
[0:54] Speaker 1: from the front door through the kitchen, you'd find wax protection,
[0:57] Speaker 1: wax polished beauty that grow lovelier with every application of
[1:02] Speaker 1: Johnson's wax. Tabletops, sideboard chair arms that gleam with wax
[1:06] Speaker 1: protection that are so easy to keep clean, and sparkling
[1:09] Speaker 1: window sills that are not afraid of a sudden shower,
[1:12] Speaker 1: Venetian blinds, picture frames, leather.
[1:14] Speaker 2: Articles that wear a coat of.
[1:15] Speaker 1: Johnson's Wax proudly. Yes, you'd find in every room evidence
[1:20] Speaker 1: of regular applications of Johnson's Wax to all kinds of surfaces,
[1:24] Speaker 1: protecting them, preserving them, adding beauty and length of life
[1:28] Speaker 1: and saving hours of housework. That's what we mean by
[1:31] Speaker 1: protective housekeeping with Johnson's wax, and believe me, it tastes
[1:35] Speaker 1: big dividends. Kramer's drug Store and West Violvista is noted
[2:09] Speaker 1: for two things. It's wonderful chocolate fudge and the fact
[2:13] Speaker 1: that it usually hasn't got any but today the sale
[2:16] Speaker 1: is on and here just home with a big bag
[2:19] Speaker 1: full of the confection, we find molly a Fiber.
[2:22] Speaker 3: McGhee and Ballei.
[2:29] Speaker 4: McGee.
[2:30] Speaker 3: You know what I got at Kramer's drug Store.
[2:32] Speaker 2: Don't tell me about some of that quick drying fountain
[2:34] Speaker 2: pen ink a Kramer's. That stuff is terrible. Why is
[2:36] Speaker 2: it I had some of that on my last trip
[2:38] Speaker 2: to Peoria? You did you know how you always shake
[2:40] Speaker 2: your pen at a hotel wall to see if the
[2:43] Speaker 2: ink is flowing right? Yes, well, that stuff drives before
[2:46] Speaker 2: it hits the wall, rattles against the wall paper like
[2:50] Speaker 2: you were throwing buckshot.
[2:52] Speaker 4: Well that's too bad, But that isn't what I started
[2:54] Speaker 4: to tell you. Kramers were having a space.
[2:56] Speaker 2: It's always having a special sale. A think a one
[2:58] Speaker 2: cent sale means giving you four spur a neck of Yeah,
[3:01] Speaker 2: but this was a Raymer's idea of a bargain is
[3:04] Speaker 2: giving you two us something you don't want with something
[3:06] Speaker 2: you gotta have for half again, what you'd have to
[3:09] Speaker 2: pay if you want someplace you'd rather go to if
[3:10] Speaker 2: it wasn't Rayming.
[3:14] Speaker 3: Now, look, dearie, will you stop interrupting me a minute?
[3:16] Speaker 2: Huh?
[3:17] Speaker 4: Telling you something is like trying to lie on your
[3:19] Speaker 4: back and play badminton with hailstones.
[3:22] Speaker 2: I'm sorry, mommy, I didn't mean to interrupt. Go ahead
[3:25] Speaker 2: and talk, thank you. I was just going to say
[3:28] Speaker 2: that I I hate it's the guy that won't let
[3:29] Speaker 2: the other guy talk.
[3:31] Speaker 3: I know that.
[3:32] Speaker 2: That's why I want my egotism. That's what it is.
[3:35] Speaker 2: Thinks what he has to say is so much more
[3:37] Speaker 2: important than what the other guy is saying. You just
[3:38] Speaker 2: can't keep his big fat mouse shut exactly.
[3:42] Speaker 4: Now, Then, when I was down at Kramer's drug start,
[3:45] Speaker 4: for goodness sakes, McGee, will you please let me talk?
[3:48] Speaker 2: Boy? That wasn't me, mommy, that was the doorbell park.
[3:50] Speaker 3: Oh pardon me, come in, missus McGee. Yeah, I'm your
[3:54] Speaker 3: new neighbor next door. If we should go away for
[3:56] Speaker 3: a few days, would you take care of our boxer?
[3:58] Speaker 2: Oh? You bet your sis. I'm very fond of dogs.
[4:00] Speaker 4: Oh this isn't a dog, it's our cousin, Punchy McClatchy.
[4:04] Speaker 3: Thank you very much, My goodness, did you ever hear
[4:08] Speaker 3: of Punchy McClatchy. McGee?
[4:09] Speaker 2: Sure? Sure? Six feet of fighting scar tissue who couldn't
[4:14] Speaker 2: batter his way out of a hairnet, known in prize
[4:18] Speaker 2: fight circles as the Waltz King, gone into more dives
[4:23] Speaker 2: than an MP in Paris and made a will, leaving
[4:27] Speaker 2: his jaw to the Libby Owen's Glass company. But tell me, kiddo,
[4:35] Speaker 2: what were you saying about framers? You got me interested?
[4:39] Speaker 4: Well, this morning I had a terrific desire for some good.
[4:42] Speaker 2: Chocolate fudge, So judge, well, why didn't you say so?
[4:46] Speaker 2: Don't give it another thought, Snookie, I'll whip you up
[4:48] Speaker 2: a batch of fudge, the old fashioned con.
[4:50] Speaker 3: Oh please, McGee.
[4:51] Speaker 2: You don't have to make me any fudge because you
[4:53] Speaker 2: wish is my command. Madam. You says you were hungry
[4:56] Speaker 2: for fudge, so you get fudge. Alan, What do I
[5:00] Speaker 2: need to make fudge? Cocoa, eggs, eggs? No, No, don't
[5:05] Speaker 2: need eggs. I hand me the pone I got to
[5:07] Speaker 2: call a grocery here. But now LEAs than Hello operator Jimmy,
[5:10] Speaker 2: Jimmy sales Grocery and Meat. Mark my words. It's her
[5:13] Speaker 2: who merg how's every little thing? Mergy? What's eyr? Your
[5:24] Speaker 2: married sister in an interesting condition?
[5:27] Speaker 4: Eh ah, is in fact nice?
[5:30] Speaker 2: No, no, no no. She was studying ballet and got
[5:33] Speaker 2: her foot caught behind her neck. What's ayrg Yeah, yeah,
[5:44] Speaker 2: the grocery store. Thanks, Hello sales grocery. Purta McGee speaking.
[5:49] Speaker 2: I just called to order some eggs, but I happen
[5:51] Speaker 2: to think you don't need eggs to make fudge, so
[5:52] Speaker 2: forget the whole thing. Well, here we go, laughing and scratching.
[5:59] Speaker 2: Come on out in the kitchen, Meghee for the last
[6:01] Speaker 2: probably won't be the last time, Tutsie. When you fling
[6:03] Speaker 2: a fang into this fudge I'm gonna make.
[6:05] Speaker 5: You'll realize why.
[6:06] Speaker 2: The chief of the Waldorf is.
[6:08] Speaker 4: A man that's pronounced chef dearie.
[6:10] Speaker 5: It is.
[6:11] Speaker 2: When I was in the army, I cooked a mess
[6:13] Speaker 2: of baked beans for the commander and chef that's chief.
[6:17] Speaker 2: I cooked a mess of beans for the commander in
[6:19] Speaker 2: sheef that were so wonderful he wanted to know the
[6:21] Speaker 2: name of the chief that cooked him. Yeah, the chef
[6:24] Speaker 2: that cooked him. So I tell us the commander and chef,
[6:27] Speaker 2: I said, where's the saucepans? Ah, here we are.
[6:38] Speaker 4: Those are pangs.
[6:40] Speaker 2: Oh what didn't you ever eat any fried fudge? Frying
[6:45] Speaker 2: brings out all the delicate Hey hey, hey, hey hey,
[6:48] Speaker 2: what are we keeping this thing for?
[6:49] Speaker 4: That's a calendar?
[6:50] Speaker 2: Well, it's full of holes. I only want the best
[6:54] Speaker 2: equipment in any kitchen of mine. Throw that thing out
[6:56] Speaker 2: the window. Thanks. Now, then a double boiler?
[7:07] Speaker 3: Why a double boiler?
[7:08] Speaker 2: I always boil my fudge twice? Now, let me see it. Salt,
[7:19] Speaker 2: got emails to the arch side. It's gotta be this all.
[7:21] Speaker 6: Bade a step.
[9:24] Speaker 5: M boys, this fudge is gonna be good.
[9:27] Speaker 2: Look at that rich brown color.
[9:29] Speaker 4: Yep, like the back of an old boxing glove.
[9:33] Speaker 2: Boy, got a load of that smooth, creamy consistency. This
[9:38] Speaker 2: stuff is going to turn out to be pure velvet.
[9:40] Speaker 3: Here's one bite and you have a long nap.
[9:43] Speaker 2: It turns out as good as I expect. I might
[9:45] Speaker 2: put it on the market. Fibbers fine fudge. I can
[9:48] Speaker 2: just see the billboards feeling foul folks, Why fret humor,
[9:52] Speaker 2: fuss feeds your face with a fistful of fivers. Fine, but.
[9:58] Speaker 4: If feeling low with work and drudgery, drop in on
[10:01] Speaker 4: Fibber's fancy Fudgerie.
[10:03] Speaker 2: That's great. I'll make the name of Fibber McGee anonymous
[10:07] Speaker 2: with fine candy every.
[10:08] Speaker 4: Place you mean synonymous, dearie, it starts with a sin.
[10:12] Speaker 4: And if you think I'm whistling Dixie your tone, then.
[10:16] Speaker 2: I'll have my fudge in every drug store in the
[10:18] Speaker 2: United States by George. All come in.
[10:23] Speaker 3: Oh it's hard latrivia out here in the kitchen, your honor, Oh.
[10:26] Speaker 2: Hello, hello, Mcgeehi, latrevia. Have a chair and watch a
[10:30] Speaker 2: master confection or confect a connection.
[10:33] Speaker 1: What witches brewer you concocting there, McGee, If you're working
[10:37] Speaker 1: on synthetic rubber, don't go any further.
[10:40] Speaker 5: A set of tires.
[10:41] Speaker 1: That smelled like that which set the automotive industry back
[10:44] Speaker 1: seventy five years.
[10:46] Speaker 4: He's making fudge, your honor, Oh fudge.
[10:50] Speaker 2: What was that last crack? Latrivia?
[10:53] Speaker 1: I merely said, oh, fudge, indicating that I had, with
[10:57] Speaker 1: my usual perspicacity, grasped the situation.
[10:59] Speaker 2: Huh uh.
[11:01] Speaker 1: May I make a suggestion.
[11:02] Speaker 3: Certainly, mister Mayor.
[11:03] Speaker 1: Well, every time I drop in for a friendly chat,
[11:06] Speaker 1: we seem to conclude with some unseemly conversational brawl. Now,
[11:11] Speaker 1: let us for once not get into an argument.
[11:14] Speaker 2: Oh It's okay with me, Latrev. I'm a peaceful citizen.
[11:17] Speaker 2: I can get along with anybody.
[11:18] Speaker 1: Well, now, isn't that man, ah, people who go around
[11:23] Speaker 1: with chips on their shoulders and.
[11:24] Speaker 2: Leave my father out of this, Platrivia, that's your father.
[11:28] Speaker 1: What did I say about you?
[11:29] Speaker 3: His father was a carpenter, mister Mayor.
[11:32] Speaker 2: And just because an honest cabinet maker has a few
[11:34] Speaker 2: chips on his shoulder doesn't get you. I was speaking
[11:37] Speaker 2: in a rhetorical sense, McGhee. I certainly did not mean
[11:40] Speaker 2: actual chips. You mean my father used phony chips. Now,
[11:45] Speaker 2: just a darn minute, Latrivia. There's no more honest people
[11:48] Speaker 2: in the world than carpenters. And I didn't say a
[11:50] Speaker 2: word about torpingers. You brought that up.
[11:52] Speaker 3: Nah, he brought mcgheea.
[11:55] Speaker 1: I mean an honest chipping topping honester, when a man
[11:59] Speaker 1: has chip on his father shouting at my wife, Latrivia,
[12:03] Speaker 1: I was not shouting.
[12:05] Speaker 2: I was not shouting at your wife.
[12:07] Speaker 4: Well, who are you shouting at, mister mayor.
[12:09] Speaker 2: At your husband?
[12:10] Speaker 4: Speak up?
[12:11] Speaker 2: Lat Trivia, speak up, if you got anything to say,
[12:14] Speaker 2: out with it. Quit mumbling? Are you?
[12:16] Speaker 1: I was only trying to just when I have tempted,
[12:22] Speaker 1: I was hoping that for one week?
[12:26] Speaker 7: McGhee.
[12:27] Speaker 2: Don't you like me?
[12:36] Speaker 5: Why?
[12:36] Speaker 4: Of course he likes you, mister Mayor, you're a fine chef.
[12:39] Speaker 2: Lat Trivia trying to fly off the handle now and
[12:43] Speaker 2: then like a cheap hatchet, but a fine chap for
[12:48] Speaker 2: all of that. Thank you.
[12:50] Speaker 1: Then, before I leave, may I tell you something I
[12:52] Speaker 1: have never said to anyone else?
[12:54] Speaker 2: Why, of course, your honored What is it, old man?
[12:57] Speaker 2: Simply this, McGhie.
[12:59] Speaker 1: You have that horrible mess of fudge all over the
[13:02] Speaker 1: front of your shirt.
[13:03] Speaker 2: And pants and on you. It looks good.
[13:16] Speaker 4: Why on earth do you suppose he doesn't like carpenters?
[13:21] Speaker 2: Just a frustration, I'd say, probably wanted to be a
[13:24] Speaker 2: carpenter himself and couldn't because he always puts her wrong
[13:27] Speaker 2: construction on everything.
[13:28] Speaker 3: Yeah that may be.
[13:29] Speaker 4: Oh McGhee, you've spilled that stuff all over the floor.
[13:32] Speaker 2: Oh so hot. I got funny left, I made a couple.
[13:34] Speaker 2: I made a double recipe.
[13:36] Speaker 3: Home, I'm here in the kitchen, mister Wilcox.
[13:38] Speaker 1: Oh, hi, Junior, Hello Pal, Hello, mam.
[13:40] Speaker 4: Wow, mister Wilcox, do you like fudge?
[13:43] Speaker 1: Is that what he's making there?
[13:45] Speaker 2: Yes? No, am I to misconstrue. That is a reflection
[13:49] Speaker 2: on my cooking Jr.
[13:50] Speaker 1: If the shoe fits, Pal, you can walk for miles
[13:53] Speaker 1: without finding an argument. Gee, I wish you had a
[13:55] Speaker 1: copy of my cookbook.
[13:56] Speaker 4: You're a cookbook I never knew you were interested in cooking,
[13:59] Speaker 4: mister Wilcox.
[14:00] Speaker 3: Family recipes at No.
[14:02] Speaker 2: I just stole them here and there.
[14:05] Speaker 1: You know the old saying, if you steal from one author,
[14:07] Speaker 1: it's plagiarism, But if you steal from everybody, it's research
[14:11] Speaker 1: or mine's research.
[14:14] Speaker 2: Now look ahere, Junior. I know you, and I know
[14:18] Speaker 2: you ain't doing this strictly for the benefit of frazzle females.
[14:21] Speaker 2: You got a gimmick in there someplace.
[14:25] Speaker 1: Well, there is one little device I thought was interesting.
[14:29] Speaker 4: Stand by receipt here it comes.
[14:35] Speaker 1: Well. You see, every time I mentioned eggs or gravy
[14:38] Speaker 1: or soup or anything as liable to be spilled, I
[14:40] Speaker 1: had a footnote It says, remember, spilled things are easily
[14:43] Speaker 1: wiped up. If your kitchen linoleum is protected by Johnson's
[14:46] Speaker 1: self polishing glow coals.
[14:48] Speaker 4: Why that's a very unobjectionable. But reminder, I'd say.
[14:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the vicious part of this guy's approach, Molly.
[14:55] Speaker 2: He sneaks up on you like Aunt Tess's elderberry wine.
[15:00] Speaker 1: And in the chapter on preparations, of course, I tell
[15:03] Speaker 1: how to keep the kitchen always ready for you. So
[15:05] Speaker 1: how to pour out little Johnson's glow coat, spread it
[15:08] Speaker 1: around and let it dry with no rubbing or buffing necessary,
[15:11] Speaker 1: and how it beautifies the linoleum and makes it last
[15:13] Speaker 1: six to ten times longer. And then hey, what time
[15:16] Speaker 1: is it?
[15:17] Speaker 2: Six to ten?
[15:17] Speaker 1: Oh? Gee, I gotta go.
[15:18] Speaker 2: I'll see you later.
[15:19] Speaker 8: Books.
[15:19] Speaker 2: Hey, hey, hey, don't you want to wait and have
[15:21] Speaker 2: some thoughts?
[15:21] Speaker 1: No?
[15:22] Speaker 2: No, no thanks.
[15:22] Speaker 3: I always thought you had quite a sweet tooth.
[15:24] Speaker 1: Mister Wilcox, Well I have, but my sweet tooth takes
[15:27] Speaker 1: advice for my wisdom tooth so long.
[15:29] Speaker 4: Now imagine mister Wilcox and the author h batah.
[15:41] Speaker 2: All it takes to be an author these days is
[15:43] Speaker 2: an idle summer and a publisher with too big an
[15:45] Speaker 2: income texts.
[15:47] Speaker 4: Well, passing up that fertile subject for the time being.
[15:50] Speaker 3: Dearie, move aside while I wipe up.
[15:52] Speaker 2: That spilled fudgs. Okay, I got to beat this panful
[15:54] Speaker 2: a little more anyway. You know this bacon soda don't
[15:57] Speaker 2: mix in very good thanking soda.
[15:59] Speaker 3: Did you put bacon shoulder in that pot?
[16:00] Speaker 2: Why? Certainly makes it light and fluffy. It's the vinegar
[16:04] Speaker 2: that gives it that sharp tangy smell y.
[16:06] Speaker 4: You're all nomagee, after all, you don't put everything into
[16:09] Speaker 4: making pot.
[16:10] Speaker 2: I didn't put everything into it. Look at all the
[16:12] Speaker 2: stuff on the shelf there. I didn't use celery salt,
[16:15] Speaker 2: onion flakes. Horse ready, hey, horse readies?
[16:20] Speaker 3: No, No, don't stirt so hard here.
[16:25] Speaker 4: You keep spilling it.
[16:26] Speaker 2: Okay, I'll beat it out on the back porch and
[16:28] Speaker 2: whip it. I'll be back.
[16:29] Speaker 3: Oh, we'll go through.
[16:34] Speaker 2: His name was Jack, but he got so homesick ahead
[16:36] Speaker 2: to give you back. Oh, hieeny, I don't get too
[16:43] Speaker 2: close to me now. I might splash some of this
[16:45] Speaker 2: on you. And it's hot stuff in more ways than wine.
[16:50] Speaker 9: Gee, what you're making, miss, what you mak fried.
[16:55] Speaker 2: Cis And if you keep quiet like a good kid.
[16:57] Speaker 2: I'll let you help me lick the pans.
[16:58] Speaker 3: Oh, why geez, thanks mister.
[17:01] Speaker 2: I love fight, you do it, I says, you do it?
[17:03] Speaker 2: You want love fight taking gander. That's sys beautiful. Eh
[17:11] Speaker 2: bet you never saw any fudge that color before.
[17:16] Speaker 9: I'll be canuly shigne anything there.
[17:20] Speaker 2: We're making good fudges a fine artsist. I ever tell
[17:23] Speaker 2: you why they call it fudge? Now? Well, sir, hundreds
[17:30] Speaker 2: of years ago, even before one Man's family was on
[17:34] Speaker 2: the air, there was a family of little elves lived
[17:39] Speaker 2: in a great big forest. You know what an elf is? Sure?
[17:43] Speaker 8: I do.
[17:43] Speaker 9: I bet you My daddy is an elf. He goes
[17:46] Speaker 9: down to the Elks club every day.
[17:48] Speaker 2: No, I didn't say elk, I said elf, brownies, gnomes, leprechauns, pixies, elves,
[17:53] Speaker 2: I mean elves, Okay, well, sir. One day the chief
[17:57] Speaker 2: of the elves, a little fellow named egg Duff, was
[18:01] Speaker 2: out for a beetleback right, And he fell off his
[18:03] Speaker 2: beetle and got lost. And he wandered around, getting hungrier
[18:07] Speaker 2: and hungrier, till he come to a place where some
[18:10] Speaker 2: human beings had been having a picnic.
[18:12] Speaker 9: Oh, how he know human beings had been there.
[18:14] Speaker 3: Mister, how did he well?
[18:16] Speaker 2: Because the grass was all torn up, and the trees
[18:18] Speaker 2: had initials carved all over him, and there was tin
[18:21] Speaker 2: cans laying all around, and dirty newspapers and broken glass
[18:26] Speaker 2: and all stuff like that. There. Ah, nobody makes a
[18:29] Speaker 2: mess like that except human beings, well, sir, Little egg
[18:35] Speaker 2: Duff climbs around looking for something to eat, and he
[18:37] Speaker 2: finds a little crumb of brown candy, eats it. It's delicious,
[18:42] Speaker 2: and he eats some more, and he gets so much
[18:44] Speaker 2: strength and energy he walks right straight home again without
[18:47] Speaker 2: anty trouble. Oh gee goody. And he tells all the
[18:51] Speaker 2: other little elves all about the wonderful stuff he'd found,
[18:53] Speaker 2: and they all wanted some. So, being a bright little elf,
[18:56] Speaker 2: little egg Duff got a bee got him to bring
[18:59] Speaker 2: him some honey, and they milked a few milkweed plants
[19:01] Speaker 2: to get some milk, and made a batch of the
[19:03] Speaker 2: finest fudgs you ever saw.
[19:06] Speaker 3: When did you get the chocolate, mister.
[19:09] Speaker 2: Well, they got the you know, off of the needles coco.
[19:14] Speaker 2: They got it all right, anyway. All the little elves
[19:17] Speaker 2: were so happy about it and so grateful to egg
[19:19] Speaker 2: Duff and got to like fudge so much. You know
[19:22] Speaker 2: what they did?
