[0:00] Speaker 1: It's time for Fiber McGhee and Molly. Sundays through Thursdays,
[0:12] Speaker 1: MBC brings you Fiber McGee and Molly transcribe. The show
[0:16] Speaker 1: is written by Phil Leslie and Lenn Levinson, then directed
[0:18] Speaker 1: by Max Hutto. Before we see what kind of a
[0:28] Speaker 1: mess McGee can get into today, here's a little scene
[0:31] Speaker 1: that took place at their home.
[0:33] Speaker 2: Say Molly, here's something every home ought to have. It's
[0:35] Speaker 2: called a Selector Ray Protecto alarm. The hardware store is
[0:38] Speaker 2: selling them for only one hundred thirty nine fifty.
[0:40] Speaker 3: Oh no, you don't, McGee. When it comes to protection,
[0:43] Speaker 3: you know, there's nothing like those Prudential Sickness and accident
[0:45] Speaker 3: plans of ours.
[0:46] Speaker 4: Yeah, you met your life, There isn't.
[0:48] Speaker 2: The Prudential's income Protection Plan covers you twenty four hours
[0:51] Speaker 2: a day against just about every kind of accident and
[0:54] Speaker 2: all types of illnesses and diseases. And this plan can
[0:58] Speaker 2: pay you steady monthly income for as long ten years
[1:00] Speaker 2: in case of illness, and for possibly the rest of
[1:03] Speaker 2: your life in case of accident.
[1:04] Speaker 3: You know, once you take out Prudential's income protection plan,
[1:08] Speaker 3: not a soul can cancel it, except, of course, yourself.
[1:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's guaranteed renewable too, just like it says
[1:13] Speaker 2: in the contract. You can also get a hospital and
[1:16] Speaker 2: surgical expense plan to help pay off those costly medical.
[1:19] Speaker 3: Bills and friends, Prudential has prepared a little booklet telling
[1:23] Speaker 3: you all about these wonderful sickness and accident plans. And
[1:27] Speaker 3: for your free copy of this new Prudential booklet, write
[1:30] Speaker 3: your name and address on a postcard along with the
[1:33] Speaker 3: words sickness an accident and send it to fiber McGee
[1:37] Speaker 3: and molly box one two one two, Newark, New Jersey.
[1:50] Speaker 1: Some months ago, at a charity baseball game, the governor
[1:53] Speaker 1: threw out the first ball and hit the umpire a
[1:55] Speaker 1: mister McGhee, squarely on the head. Yesterday, the Governor came
[1:59] Speaker 1: back to Tavista and mister McGee hit him for a soft,
[2:03] Speaker 1: well paid state job.
[2:05] Speaker 2: And of course, my biggest problem with is to decide
[2:07] Speaker 2: what state job to accept.
[2:09] Speaker 4: There's so many of them.
[2:10] Speaker 5: Oh, it must be a problem.
[2:13] Speaker 2: That's why I got this book from the library to
[2:14] Speaker 2: see just what the state has to offer.
[2:16] Speaker 5: Ooh.
[2:17] Speaker 2: For instance, now I might let the governor make me
[2:20] Speaker 2: a public utilities commissioner.
[2:22] Speaker 4: So I could cut our light and gas bills for us.
[2:24] Speaker 5: That would be nice. Is that one of the jobs
[2:26] Speaker 5: you've been offered?
[2:27] Speaker 3: Well, as a matter of fact, mister Wimple, he hasn't
[2:29] Speaker 3: been offered anything specific yet. I wish you wouldn't pin
[2:32] Speaker 3: your hopes too high.
[2:33] Speaker 2: McGee, How can I possibly do that? You heard the
[2:35] Speaker 2: governor himself say he'd take care of me.
[2:37] Speaker 3: I know, but that was on the golf course. He
[2:39] Speaker 3: was in a hurry to play. You were in his way.
[2:41] Speaker 5: Well, even so, missus McGee. If the governor himself promised this.
[2:44] Speaker 3: Is election year, mister wimple, those politicians are very fast
[2:48] Speaker 3: with a promise an election year.
[2:49] Speaker 2: You know, he didn't just promise kitto. He turned the
[2:52] Speaker 2: whole thing over to that guy on his staff, you know,
[2:54] Speaker 2: the keeper of the pork barrel, the one that dishes
[2:57] Speaker 2: out the jobs. He's the guy we're going to see
[2:59] Speaker 2: today at three o'clock at the hotel.
[3:01] Speaker 3: Oh him, that Kenny Fella. Yeah, I don't know. I
[3:04] Speaker 3: don't trust him. He looks exactly like the man who
[3:06] Speaker 3: sold my father a wooden lightning rod one time.
[3:09] Speaker 5: My goodness, I think politics is so exciting. Sweety face
[3:14] Speaker 5: ran for office one time. You know, really, yes, sheriff?
[3:18] Speaker 4: No kidding, I didn't know that.
[3:20] Speaker 5: Yes, And I think she'd have won it too, Only
[3:23] Speaker 5: she was disqualified at the last minute because she went
[3:26] Speaker 5: to the polls and voted for herself.
[3:28] Speaker 3: Well, it's no crime to vote for yourself. They all
[3:30] Speaker 3: do it.
[3:31] Speaker 5: Seventeen times. She scurried around from pole to pole like
[3:37] Speaker 5: a phone company troubleshooter. I was glad she wasn't elected.
[3:41] Speaker 4: Really glad she lost?
[3:42] Speaker 5: You was?
[3:42] Speaker 4: That's a pretty good job.
[3:43] Speaker 5: For her, Yes, But well, how would you like to
[3:47] Speaker 5: be known all over the county as the sheriff's husband.
[3:52] Speaker 2: Well, you may get to be known as the friend
[3:54] Speaker 2: of a guy that he's a power in state politics.
[3:56] Speaker 4: Whim.
[3:56] Speaker 2: My main problem right now is to pick out the
[3:58] Speaker 2: job where I can be of the most cert and
[4:00] Speaker 2: do the best.
[4:01] Speaker 4: Job for the people.
[4:02] Speaker 5: Which people?
[4:03] Speaker 4: The people at seventy nine whistle Vista, which else?
[4:06] Speaker 3: Spoken like a true politician.
[4:08] Speaker 2: Just look at the possibilities in this book, Molly, I
[4:10] Speaker 2: could be State Livestock Sanitation Inspectations No, positively, no.
[4:14] Speaker 4: Okay, okay.
[4:15] Speaker 2: Plenty more to pick from, Fish, Game and Oyster Commission,
[4:19] Speaker 2: Poultry Improvement council. Hey, listen to this one fystical officer
[4:22] Speaker 2: of the State Boxing.
[4:23] Speaker 3: Commission fistical officer.
[4:25] Speaker 2: Boy, they don't come any more phystical than I used
[4:27] Speaker 2: to come. But I guess maybe that's the job i'd like.
[4:30] Speaker 3: What about this year you had yesterday to be a regent?
[4:33] Speaker 2: Well, I gotta think this over. Let me see what
[4:35] Speaker 2: a region means, tool Bridge authority, garbage inspector, Board of
[4:41] Speaker 2: Regent State University. Don't say how much they get, but
[4:45] Speaker 2: they're appointed for sixteen years.
[4:46] Speaker 3: Oh my, let me see that. It'd make you not
[4:50] Speaker 3: getting sensitive about your age? At your age, are you, dearie?
[4:52] Speaker 4: Oh no?
[4:53] Speaker 1: Not all?
[4:53] Speaker 2: All right ahead and figure just remember I'm a year
[4:56] Speaker 2: and three months older than you are. Now how much
[4:58] Speaker 2: did you say that'll make me?
[4:59] Speaker 6: Ha?
[5:00] Speaker 3: Oh, let's skip it, okay.
[5:02] Speaker 4: Let me see.
[5:03] Speaker 2: Should I be the phystical officer of the State Boxing
[5:05] Speaker 2: Commission or a regent of the university.
[5:08] Speaker 4: It's a real difficult decision to make.
[5:10] Speaker 5: Oh it certainly is.
[5:11] Speaker 4: I got away it carefully. Which do I like? Most?
[5:15] Speaker 4: Prize fighting or football?
[5:16] Speaker 3: Let me look at that book. Maybe you can break
[5:18] Speaker 3: the deadlock by applying for some other job. How about
[5:21] Speaker 3: this one keep her of the state seal.
[5:23] Speaker 4: State seal. I thought they kept the state seal in
[5:25] Speaker 4: the state zoo.
[5:26] Speaker 5: No, they keep the state bird in the state zoo.
[5:29] Speaker 3: Though I thought that was called an avy.
[5:30] Speaker 2: Ay, there's no such bird as an aviary Molly, that's
[5:33] Speaker 2: a bee's hometown, ap area, the state bird?
[5:35] Speaker 5: No, the bees hometown?
[5:37] Speaker 3: What state is it in?
[5:38] Speaker 4: Stuffed? I hope what stuff? The seal? Otherwise it'll leads
[5:41] Speaker 4: you out of house and fish.
[5:42] Speaker 3: Wait a minute, now, how did fish get into this?
[5:44] Speaker 5: I don't know, because the state seal is neither fish
[5:47] Speaker 5: nor foul.
[5:47] Speaker 4: Then, for Pete's sake, what is it?
[5:49] Speaker 5: It's a wildcat with its teeth bed and its claws clawing,
[5:52] Speaker 5: uttering the state motto tread on me at your own risk.
[5:56] Speaker 2: That's what I've been saying all along with you gotta
[5:59] Speaker 2: keep a dangerous animal like that in the zoo.
[6:11] Speaker 1: Back to wist Felista in a minute. Here is a
[6:13] Speaker 1: scene that could happen in your doctor's office. A doctor's
[6:16] Speaker 1: advice to Ed Gray.
[6:18] Speaker 7: You're in excellent health, but a word of caution. There's
[6:20] Speaker 7: no need for you to take laxatives regularly.
[6:22] Speaker 8: Is that really true?
[6:24] Speaker 7: Doctor? Yes? Five new York doctors now have proved you
[6:26] Speaker 7: can break the laxative habit and regain that wonderful feeling
[6:29] Speaker 7: that goes with natural regularity. Eighty three percent of the
[6:32] Speaker 7: case's tested did it.
[6:33] Speaker 9: So can you.
[6:34] Speaker 7: That's great, doctor, But how do I do it? Stop
[6:37] Speaker 7: taking whatever you now take? Instead every night for one week,
[6:40] Speaker 7: take two Carter's Little liverpills. Second week one each night,
[6:44] Speaker 7: third week one every other night. Then nothing every day.
[6:47] Speaker 7: Drink plenty of liquids. Put yourself on schedule. But how
[6:50] Speaker 7: can Carter's help break the laxative habit? Doctor? Because Carters
[6:54] Speaker 7: not only relieve irregularity, they also improve the flow of
[6:57] Speaker 7: liver bile that's needed for natural regularity. When worry over eating,
[7:01] Speaker 7: overwork make you irregular, temporarily, take Carter's temporarily and don't
[7:06] Speaker 7: get the laxative habit. Get Carter's Little Liver Pills only
[7:09] Speaker 7: forty three cents. Break your laxative habit, restore your natural
[7:13] Speaker 7: powers of regularity.
[7:25] Speaker 8: Go from mister McGhee, mister Rogers.
[7:29] Speaker 3: Go from mister Rogers, mister.
[7:31] Speaker 4: McGee, Hey boy, make up your mind. Who do you want,
[7:33] Speaker 4: mister McGee or mister Rogers.
[7:34] Speaker 3: Who you got This is mister McGee, Pepper McGee. I
[7:37] Speaker 3: have a message mister Quinch will see you now up
[7:39] Speaker 3: in sweet three hundred.
[7:41] Speaker 4: Oh thanks, well, come on, Molly, this is it.
[7:42] Speaker 3: Pag mister Rogers, mister Rogers here before we get in
[7:46] Speaker 3: the elevator, smooth down your hair on top, that does it?
[7:50] Speaker 3: Come on? Well, hello, doctor Gamble.
[7:53] Speaker 4: Oh there my hi am McGee, Hi elevator.
[7:55] Speaker 7: Fa.
[7:56] Speaker 2: Sorry, we haven't got time to chitter chatter with you,
[7:58] Speaker 2: but we got an important appointment upstairs.
[8:00] Speaker 3: We have time to be polite though, McGee. How are you? Doctor?
[8:02] Speaker 4: Fine?
[8:03] Speaker 6: What's little feisty fuss and feathers so chesty about?
[8:06] Speaker 4: We got an important apartment with Kenny Quinch, Not that
[8:09] Speaker 4: you know who he is.
[8:09] Speaker 6: Quinch, Well, he's the Governor's left hand man, you mean
[8:12] Speaker 6: right hand The governor never lets his right hand know
[8:15] Speaker 6: what his left hand man is doing, oh doctor, especially
[8:18] Speaker 6: when Quinch is handing out.
[8:19] Speaker 9: Of state jobs.
[8:20] Speaker 3: What do you mean by that?
[8:21] Speaker 4: Doctor noting nothing?
[8:23] Speaker 6: Only don't let him talk McGee into accepting a job
[8:26] Speaker 6: with the State Highway Department, or you'll find himself working
[8:28] Speaker 6: on the road.
[8:29] Speaker 3: Gang.
[8:30] Speaker 2: Ah, don't you worry, your naked oldhead about me, tonsil jerker.
[8:33] Speaker 6: Why do you want to be a bureaucrat anyhow?
[8:36] Speaker 4: Why not?
[8:37] Speaker 2: I've been a member of the long suffering public all
[8:39] Speaker 2: my life. I'd like to get over on the other
[8:41] Speaker 2: side of the fence for change and get some of
[8:43] Speaker 2: my tax money back.
[8:44] Speaker 6: And have every dim bob in the state say, my
[8:46] Speaker 6: good man, I pay your salaries and don't get flipped
[8:49] Speaker 6: with me.
[8:49] Speaker 3: McGee, that's what you always say.
[8:51] Speaker 2: Look, we're holding up the elevator with a wonderful position
[8:53] Speaker 2: on the governor's staff waiting for me, and are we
[8:55] Speaker 2: gonna let this disbarred horse doctor talk us.
[8:57] Speaker 4: Out of it? What do you mean disbarred?
[8:58] Speaker 2: Okay, so you're an this fard horse doctor. Come on in, Molly,
[9:02] Speaker 2: going up third four please.
[9:06] Speaker 3: You weren't very polite to doctor Gamble.
[9:07] Speaker 2: He was very polite to me too, either, sol me
[9:10] Speaker 2: curse when I'm on the verge of the most important
[9:12] Speaker 2: conference of my political.
[9:13] Speaker 3: Career, which today has been fairly spotty.
[9:16] Speaker 4: No, what boy, why do you stop the elevator because
[9:19] Speaker 4: we're at the third floor? Megie, Why didn't he say so?
[9:22] Speaker 4: Which way is sweet? Three hundred?
[9:24] Speaker 3: Staring you're right in the face mcgi out press the buzzer.
[9:29] Speaker 4: Well, I hope you. Oh my gosh, what's wrong his name?
[9:31] Speaker 4: His name? I forgot it.
[9:34] Speaker 9: Well, hello there, mister McGhee and the missus.
[9:36] Speaker 3: Hello, mister quinch.
[9:38] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, ha, hi.
[9:39] Speaker 9: Quinch, old man, step right in with you.
[9:42] Speaker 4: Don't mind it, we do, Hey, Molly, I have.
[9:44] Speaker 9: Some boys in there caucus, you know. Oh sure, sure,
[9:46] Speaker 9: so if we can settle this in here quick, I
[9:48] Speaker 9: can get back to them.
[9:49] Speaker 3: Oh of course, this shouldn't take long. Go ahead and
[9:51] Speaker 3: McGee speak up.
[9:52] Speaker 2: Okay, Well, the governor said yesterday he wanted me to
[9:55] Speaker 2: have a state job, and I said, it don't have
[9:57] Speaker 2: to be anything steady, you know, something honorary, but Mam
[10:00] Speaker 2: Terry would do.
[10:00] Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I remember. Now let me see. Oh yes,
[10:03] Speaker 9: the highway to parkment.
[10:05] Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, I won't have my husband on
[10:08] Speaker 3: the road. Gang.
[10:08] Speaker 9: Well that isn't what I had mine.
[10:10] Speaker 2: I mean, anybud, how about some job where a real
[10:13] Speaker 2: level head will do, like being a regent or a
[10:15] Speaker 2: physccal officer for the Boxing Commission, or maybe.
[10:17] Speaker 9: Wait a minute, you mentioned something I could do something about.
[10:20] Speaker 9: You'd like to be a regent?
[10:21] Speaker 4: Huh yeah, that was my very first choice a region.
[10:24] Speaker 9: Think that I'll have the appointment drawn up when I
[10:26] Speaker 9: get back to the State House. What's your address here?
[10:28] Speaker 4: Seventy nine Wistful.
[10:29] Speaker 9: Vistan seventy nine Wistful Vista. And it's all settled. You'll
[10:33] Speaker 9: be getting it in the mail next week.
[10:35] Speaker 2: Swell, Kenny, old man, Swell, and look, when you see
[10:37] Speaker 2: Governor Pottle, I want you to thank him for me.
[10:39] Speaker 2: Will you tell him I'm gonna make him in the
[10:41] Speaker 2: state and the State University mighty.
[10:43] Speaker 4: Proud of me.
[10:45] Speaker 9: State University.
[10:46] Speaker 4: You made me a regent, didn't you.
[10:47] Speaker 8: Oh?
[10:48] Speaker 9: Oh, oh, yes, But I've got to tell you what
[10:50] Speaker 9: you're going to be regent of.
[10:52] Speaker 3: Not the university.
[10:53] Speaker 9: Oh, those regents are appointed for sixteen years and they
[10:56] Speaker 9: never seem to die. But we've got a dandy state
[10:59] Speaker 9: barber legend. We're putting you on the board of Regions
[11:01] Speaker 9: there for the.
[11:02] Speaker 4: Examinations, you know, examinations.
[11:05] Speaker 9: For sure, every barber has to be examined before he
[11:08] Speaker 9: can get a state license.
[11:09] Speaker 4: Well that ain't exactly what I expect him.
[11:11] Speaker 3: But well maybe it won't be so bad after all,
[11:13] Speaker 3: of course.
[11:13] Speaker 5: Not.
[11:14] Speaker 9: Oh, it gets kind of rough when you hit a
[11:16] Speaker 9: nervous barber and he takes the skin off your nose or.
[11:19] Speaker 4: Ear You mean you mean the examination takes place on
[11:23] Speaker 4: my face.
[11:23] Speaker 9: Yes, but don't worry if he cuts you up. You
[11:26] Speaker 9: just don't give him a license, would well, I gotta
[11:29] Speaker 9: get back to the carcass a long reachon and.
[11:31] Speaker 4: Good luck off for that, I think I'll resign.
[11:35] Speaker 8: That's cool, Fibber and Molly will be right back.
[11:48] Speaker 10: Busy day, busy day, busy, busy.
[11:51] Speaker 9: Busy day.
[11:53] Speaker 10: Isn't that almost every day in your busy house days
[11:56] Speaker 10: that are made to order for the busy day. Dessert
[11:59] Speaker 10: Jello instant pudding from the famous Jello folks. Just listen
[12:03] Speaker 10: to how quick and easy it is. Just add Jello
[12:07] Speaker 10: instant pudding to cold milk and beat it up.
[12:09] Speaker 9: That's all. By the time you're.
[12:11] Speaker 10: Ready to eat it, it's all ready for you. So
[12:15] Speaker 10: quick and easy, there's always time to make it, no
[12:18] Speaker 10: matter how busy you are, and so good too, Creamy
[12:22] Speaker 10: as clouds, delicious as can be, and full of nourishment. Besides,
[12:27] Speaker 10: there's just no other instant pudding that could ever be
[12:29] Speaker 10: the same. So stock up your busy house today with
[12:33] Speaker 10: a great big supply of all three flavors. Just ask
[12:38] Speaker 10: for the busy day dessert, new jello, instant pudding, or a.
[12:53] Speaker 4: Letdown region of the state barber college.
[12:56] Speaker 3: Yep, Harley pays to get hit on the head with
[12:58] Speaker 3: a baseball by the governor these days.
[13:00] Speaker 2: Imagine the crust of them guys wanting me to let
[13:01] Speaker 2: their amateur barber shave me.
[13:03] Speaker 3: Ha. That's ridiculous, Yeah, dangerous too, bart Like I say,
[13:08] Speaker 3: politics is a cutthroat business. Don't you get a dairy
[13:12] Speaker 3: cup throat shape?
[13:13] Speaker 4: Ain't funny?
[13:14] Speaker 3: Missus McGee just trying to get a laugh in here somewhere.
