[0:23] working, studying, or just trying to make your life a
[0:26] little bit better. And joining me is a special

[0:33] Don't forget to check out the free PDF file in the comments
[0:36] section below to get the full transcript and new vocabulary
[0:40] for this episode. Hi, Leo, how are you today?
[0:47] Hi Lisa, I'm doing great. Really excited to talk about
[0:51] this topic. It's something everyone can
[0:53] improve in, no matter where they are in life.
[0:57] Absolutely, and I think we all know that feeling of wanting to
[1:00] do more, but sometimes getting stuck or feeling like our ideas
[1:04] aren't coming. So if you're listening and you
[1:06] want tips that can help you be more productive and creative,
[1:10] stay with us because we've got some good stuff coming your way.
[1:14] So Leo, let's jump right in. When we talk about productivity
[1:17] and creativity, these two are often seen as separate things.
[1:21] But are they connected? Great question, Lisa.
[1:24] They're absolutely connected. Think about it this way.
[1:28] Being productive means you're getting things done efficiently,
[1:31] right? But to get things done in a way
[1:34] that's interesting, original, or even fun, That's where
[1:38] creativity comes in. For example, imagine someone
[1:42] who's writing a report for work. You can get it done quickly, but
[1:47] if you add creative ideas, you'll make it more engaging and
[1:50] memorable for the reader. That makes so much sense.
[1:54] So it's not just about getting more done, but also doing it in
[1:57] a way that stands out. Exactly.
[2:00] And one way to boost both productivity and creativity is
[2:04] by setting aside time for brainstorming.
[2:07] Let's say you have a task. You give yourself 5 to 10
[2:11] minutes to just think of different ways to approach it.
[2:15] Even if some ideas seem silly, they can lead to something new
[2:19] and creative. And this method also helps you
[2:22] get focused, making you more productive.
[2:26] That's a great tip. I've also heard people talk
[2:28] about taking breaks to stay productive.
[2:31] What do you think about that? Yes, breaks are essential.
[2:35] A lot of people feel guilty when they take breaks, but the truth
[2:39] is our brains need rest to stay sharp.
[2:42] Taking short, regular breaks helps recharge your brain and
[2:46] can even boost your creativity. A good example is the Pomodoro
[2:50] technique. You work for 25 minutes, then
[2:53] take a 5 minute break. After a few cycles you take a
[2:56] longer break. It helps keep your mind fresh.
[3:00] I've tried that technique and it really does help.
[3:04] Now let's talk about distractions.
[3:06] We live in a world where it's easy to get distracted.
[3:09] Our phones, social media notifications.
[3:12] How do we stay productive in such a distracting world?
[3:15] Yeah, distractions are a huge challenge.
[3:18] One simple thing people can do is to turn off notifications
[3:21] when they're working. Also, creating a dedicated
[3:24] workspace can help. For example, if you're working
[3:27] from home, set up a space that's only for work.
[3:31] It trains your brain to focus when you're there.
[3:34] And a great creative tip. Sometimes moving your workspace
[3:38] or changing environments, like going to a cafe, can spark new
[3:42] ideas. I love that idea.
[3:45] Switching up your environment can really change how you think.
[3:49] Speaking of changing environments, does physical
[3:51] activity help with creativity? Oh absolutely.
[3:55] Exercise is a great way to clear your mind and get those creative
[3:59] juices flowing. When you move your body, you're
[4:02] increasing blood flow to the brain, which helps you think
[4:06] better. Some of my best ideas come when
[4:08] I'm out for a walk. Time for a fun fact, Leo.
[4:16] Did you know that some of the most creative people in history
[4:19] had really interesting routines? Yes, for example, did you know
[4:24] that Albert Einstein played the violin to help him think through
[4:28] difficult problems? And Steve Jobs, the Co founder
[4:31] of Apple, often took long walks when he needed to come up with
[4:34] new ideas. It's a reminder that creativity
[4:38] doesn't always happen when you're sitting at a desk.
[4:42] Wow, that's so interesting. So even geniuses need a change
[4:46] of pace sometimes. So to sum it up, boosting your
[4:50] productivity and creativity isn't about working harder, it's
[4:54] about working smarter. We talked about taking breaks,
[4:59] finding new ways to think about tasks, and even moving your body
[5:02] to spark creativity. These are all simple changes
[5:05] anyone can make. Yes, exactly.
[5:08] You don't need to overhaul your life to see it improvements.
[5:12] Small changes like turning off notifications or setting aside
[5:16] time for brainstorming can make a big difference over time.
[5:21] Thank you so much, Leo for all these great tips.
[5:23] I'm sure our listeners have learned a lot today.
[5:26] My pleasure Lisa, I hope everyone listening can take away
[5:29] at least one new idea to try in their own life.
[5:33] And that's all for today's episode of the Simple English
[5:36] Podcast. If you enjoyed this discussion,

[5:45] productive and creative? Until next time, take care and
[5:48] keep improving. Now it's time to learn some
[5:55] important vocabulary related to the topic.
[5:58] The first word of today is productivity.
[6:01] It means the ability to get tasks done efficiently, usually
[6:04] within a set amount of time. Example, improving your
[6:08] productivity can help you finish more tasks in less time.
[6:12] Next word is creativity. It means the ability to come up
[6:16] with new and original ideas or ways of doing things.
[6:20] Example creativity allows people to find unique solutions to
[6:25] common problems. Next word is brainstorming.
[6:29] It means a process of generating ideas freely without judgment,
[6:33] often to solve a problem or plan a project.
[6:37] Example. We had a brainstorming session
[6:39] to come up with new marketing ideas.
[6:42] Next word is efficiency. It means achieving maximum
[6:45] productivity with minimum wasted effort or resources.
[6:49] Example. Using A to do list is a great
[6:52] way to improve your efficiency at work.
[6:55] Next word is distractions. It means things that take your
[6:59] attention away from what you are supposed to be doing.
[7:02] Example. Turning off notifications helps
[7:05] reduce distractions and keeps you focused.
[7:09] Next word is multitasking. It means the ability to handle
[7:14] more than one task at the same time.
[7:17] Example While multitasking might seem efficient, focusing on one
[7:21] task at a time often leads to better results.
[7:25] Next word is innovation. It means the process of
[7:29] introducing new ideas, methods, or products.
[7:32] Example, innovation in the workplace can lead to more
[7:35] creative solutions and improved productivity.
