[0:04] Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Simple English Podcast
[0:07] where we break down complex topics into easy to understand
[0:10] conversations. I'm your host, Lisa, and today
[0:13] we've got an interesting topic for you, how to lose weight
[0:16] without dieting. Now, before you think, wait,
[0:19] that sounds too good to be true, stick with us because we're
[0:23] going to share some simple tips that you can start using today.
[0:27] And the best part? You won't have to count calories
[0:29] or give up your favorite foods. That's right, Lisa.
[0:33] In fact, most people think weight loss is all about strict
[0:36] diets or cutting out carbs completely.
[0:39] But today we'll explore some realistic and sustainable ways
[0:42] to shed those extra pounds without feeling like you're
[0:45] constantly depriving yourself. It's about small everyday
[0:48] changes that add up over time. Exactly, Oliver.
[0:53] So if you've ever felt frustrated with diets, or if
[0:56] you're looking for a way to lose weight that's not about
[0:58] following a plan, you're in the right place.
[1:02] Let's dive into how you can start losing weight without the
[1:05] stress of traditional dieting. Don't forget to check out the
[1:09] free PDF file in the comment section below to get the full
[1:12] transcript and vocabulary for this episode.
[1:20] Let's start with the first tip, which I think might surprise
[1:23] some people. Mindful eating.
[1:26] Now, this isn't about eating salads every day, right?
[1:30] It's about paying attention to what you're eating and how it
[1:32] makes you feel. That's a great point, Lisa.
[1:36] Mindful eating means slowing down, savoring each bite, and
[1:39] listening to your body. For example, a lot of people eat
[1:43] while watching TV or on the go. We don't really think about the
[1:46] food, we just eat it because it's there.
[1:48] But when we eat mindfully, we become more aware of when we're
[1:51] full or when we're eating out of boredom.
[1:54] Yes, I've noticed that when I eat without distractions, I feel
[1:57] full faster and I don't overeat. It's like my body has a chance
[2:01] to tell me, OK, that's enough. And it's not just about the
[2:04] amount of food, it's about the enjoyment of the meal.
[2:08] I mean, who doesn't like a good meal?
[2:10] But you really enjoy it more when you pay attention to the
[2:13] flavors and textures. Exactly.
[2:17] And there's also something called the plate size effect.
[2:20] People tend to eat more when they're given larger plates or
[2:23] bowls. So when you use a smaller plate,
[2:26] it's a simple way to trick your brain into thinking you're
[2:29] eating more than you actually are.
[2:31] That's such a simple trick, right?
[2:34] And it works. Now let's talk about physical
[2:37] activity. A lot of people think they need
[2:39] to hit the gym for hours every day to lose weight, but that's
[2:42] not necessarily the case. Yeah, you don't need to do
[2:46] intense workouts to lose weight. Just moving more throughout the
[2:49] day can make a huge difference. For example, walking a daily 30
[2:54] minute walk, whether it's during your lunch break or after
[2:57] dinner, can help burn calories and improve metabolism.
[3:00] Plus, it's good for your heart and mental health.
[3:03] And it's something anyone can do, no matter how busy they are.
[3:06] I mean, you can even walk with friends or listen to a podcast
[3:09] while you walk. It doesn't have to feel like
[3:11] exercise. It's just moving your body in a
[3:13] way that feels natural. Exactly.
[3:16] Another simple trick is to add more movement to your day-to-day
[3:19] life. Instead of taking the elevator,
[3:21] take the stairs. Instead of driving to the store
[3:24] that's 5 minutes away, walk or bike there.
[3:26] All these little things add up and keep you moving without you
[3:29] even realizing it. So it's not always about those
[3:32] big intense workouts, it's about consistent small movements that
[3:37] you can sustain. Now, one thing that a lot of
[3:40] people overlook when they're trying to lose weight is sleep.
[3:44] It seems strange, but sleep plays a huge role in how our
[3:47] bodies process food and burn fat.
[3:50] Oh, absolutely. Poor sleep can affect your
[3:52] hormones, especially the ones that control hunger.
[3:55] When you don't get enough sleep, your body produces more Grilan,
[3:59] which is the hormone that makes you feel hungry.
[4:01] On the other hand, it reduces leptin, the hormone that tells
[4:04] you when you're full, so lack of sleep can make you eat more.
[4:08] I've definitely noticed that when I'm tired, I'm more likely
[4:11] to reach for snacks, especially sugary ones.
[4:14] It's like my body is craving energy, but it's not in the
[4:17] healthiest way. Getting enough sleep around 7:00
[4:21] to 9:00 hours is crucial for weight loss and general health.
[4:25] Exactly, and it's not just about the quantity of sleep but also
[4:29] the quality. If you can make your bedroom a
[4:31] calm and dark place, it can improve your sleep quality.
[4:34] No screens an hour before bed, no bright lights and maybe some
[4:38] calming music or reading to wind down.
[4:45] All right, we've talked a lot about practical tips for weight
[4:47] loss, but here's a fun fact that will blow your mind.
[4:50] Did you know that chewing your food longer can actually help
[4:53] you lose weight? Wait, really?
[4:55] That's a good one. I know that eating slowly can
[4:58] help you feel more full, but chewing food more thoroughly?
[5:01] That's new for me. Yes, research shows that chewing
[5:04] your food thoroughly can help with digestion, and it also
[5:08] gives your brain more time to register that you're eating,
[5:10] which helps prevent overeating. If you chew each bite 30 times
[5:15] before swallowing, you'll end up eating less because you'll feel
[5:18] full faster. That's a pretty simple change to
[5:22] make and it could help so many people.
[5:24] I think we all rush through meals sometimes, so this is a
[5:27] great reminder to slow down. Definitely, Plus it gives you
[5:31] more time to enjoy your food. Eating slowly can actually make
[5:35] meals more satisfying. So if you're looking for a way
[5:38] to lose weight without dieting, try taking your time with each
[5:42] meal. All right, so to sum up today's
[5:49] conversation, losing weight doesn't have to be about extreme
[5:53] dieting or hours of exercise. It's about making small,
[5:57] sustainable changes that you can stick with.
[6:00] Whether it's eating mindfully, staying active throughout the
[6:03] day, getting enough sleep, or even chewing your food more,
[6:07] every little change counts. Exactly, Lisa.
[6:12] It's all about creating habits that are easy to maintain, and
[6:15] that's the key to lasting weight loss.
[6:17] Diets may give quick results, but they don't always work in
[6:20] the long run. These small changes can have a
[6:22] big impact on your overall health too.
[6:26] I hope today's tips have inspired you to start making
[6:29] some simple changes in your life.

[6:34] consistent. If you enjoyed today's podcast,

[7:03] The first word of today is mindful.
[7:05] It means aware and focused on what you are doing, thinking, or
[7:09] feeling in the present moment. Example, practicing mindful

[7:20] It means the chemical processes that occur within a living
[7:24] Organism to maintain life, including converting food into
[7:27] energy. Example, regular exercise can
[7:31] boost your metabolism and help you burn calories more
[7:35] efficiently. Next word is calories.
[7:38] It means a unit of energy that food provides when consumed.
[7:42] Example, even if you're not dieting, being mindful of your

[7:49] Next word is appetite. It means a natural desire to eat
[7:52] food, often influenced by hunger or emotional factors.
[7:57] Example, if you sleep well, your appetite will be better
[8:01] regulated, making it easier to avoid overeating.
[8:04] The last word of today is hydration.
