[0:32] SPEAKER_01: Tell us your thoughts, give us your theories.

[0:56] SPEAKER_01: So today we are going to be covering Marrow by Trisha Wolf and Brynn Weaver.
[1:03] SPEAKER_01: I am so excited.
[1:06] SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited that we're doing this.
[1:08] SPEAKER_00: I I yes, we will get there.
[1:11] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because we can finally do like a slow read-along with all of our favorite people.
[1:16] SPEAKER_01: This is exactly exciting.
[1:17] SPEAKER_01: I know.
[1:17] SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm really, and this book is fabulous.
[1:22] SPEAKER_01: So today we are chatting about chapters one through nine.
[1:26] SPEAKER_01: You can see on our socials, we have posted what we'll be covering every week.
[1:31] SPEAKER_01: So even if you got to catch up, don't worry, you don't have that much to catch up on.
[1:36] SPEAKER_01: Um, it's totally manageable and we would love to hear everybody's thoughts.
[1:40] SPEAKER_01: This is my first time reading this.
[1:42] SPEAKER_01: Is this your first time with this book?
[1:44] SPEAKER_00: No, but it has been a very long time, so it kind of feels like it's the first time in because there's even been stuff where I'm like, what?
[1:51] SPEAKER_00: All right.
[1:52] SPEAKER_01: So it feels really good and enjoyable because if you didn't know with our other episodes, those are books that we have read multiple times.
[2:01] SPEAKER_01: So this one, I don't know, it just feels really fun to be doing something where I'm like, I don't know what's gonna happen.
[2:06] SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, I know it is super fresh.
[2:08] SPEAKER_01: So this book is giving me like Dexter vibes, but both Dexter and Rita are serial killers.
[2:17] SPEAKER_01: So I am in love and I love Trisha Wolf, and obviously, we are very much in love with Bryn Weaver.
[2:25] SPEAKER_01: So this book is phenomenal, and I've actually seen a few people who are like, What book is that?
[2:30] SPEAKER_01: I did not know that this existed.
[2:32] SPEAKER_01: Well, we need to change that.
[2:33] SPEAKER_01: So uh Dead Bodies Ahead, turn back now.
[2:38] SPEAKER_00: Chapter one.
[2:39] SPEAKER_00: Also, dual POV.
[2:40] SPEAKER_00: Yes.
[2:41] SPEAKER_00: Fuck yes, sign me up.
[2:42] SPEAKER_00: We open up with Kyrie.
[2:44] SPEAKER_01: So she is I gotta stop you right there because I had a long thought on it.
[2:49] SPEAKER_01: I think her name is pronounced Kiri.
[2:53] SPEAKER_01: Kiri?
[2:54] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because there's a part of it.
[2:56] SPEAKER_01: There is a part where they pronounce it.
[2:58] SPEAKER_01: Do you think I actually tuned into that?
[2:59] SPEAKER_01: Kiri.
[3:00] SPEAKER_01: It's I think it's Kiri because I kept saying Kyrie, and then I got to that part and it was like K-E-E-R E.
[3:09] SPEAKER_01: It was like Kiri.
[3:11] SPEAKER_00: Why couldn't we open with that?
[3:12] SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
[3:13] SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
[3:14] SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
[3:14] SPEAKER_00: We opened the book to Dr.
[3:15] SPEAKER_00: Kiri.
[3:17] unknown: Thank you.
[3:19] SPEAKER_00: What did I say?
[3:20] SPEAKER_00: Kyrie.
[3:21] SPEAKER_00: No, I said Kiri.
[3:23] unknown: I don't know.
[3:24] SPEAKER_00: See this.
[3:25] SPEAKER_00: Every time I read it, I was like, I'm saying it wrong.
[3:28] SPEAKER_00: It's fine.
[3:30] SPEAKER_00: She's at a gala, she's winning awards, she's hot as fuck, and she is smart as fuck.
[3:36] SPEAKER_00: Hell yeah.
[3:37] SPEAKER_00: I love her already.
[3:38] SPEAKER_00: So do I.
[3:39] SPEAKER_00: Obsessed.
[3:40] SPEAKER_00: Um, so there's this man.
[3:41] SPEAKER_00: His name is Jack Sorensen, who was supposed to present her award.
[3:45] SPEAKER_00: He's also a doctor.
[3:46] SPEAKER_00: Um, but no showed until she was accepting it on stage, and she kind of like peeps him hiding in the shadows, like drinking his little drink.
[3:52] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[3:53] SPEAKER_00: Um so she throws some shade at him, which is nice.
[3:57] SPEAKER_00: And then we meet Brad.
[3:58] SPEAKER_00: So he's kind of like her occasional fuck buddy.
[4:01] SPEAKER_00: He comes over to congratulate her, and he's got like the gross nervous sweats, but won't say why.
[4:06] SPEAKER_00: So she offers to go home with him and just like bang the information out of us.
[4:11] SPEAKER_01: Onions chapter one.
[4:14] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, dude.
[4:14] SPEAKER_01: But also, like Brad is another one of the doctors.
[4:17] SPEAKER_01: Like, these are all homies that all work together.
[4:21] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're all important science people.
[4:24] SPEAKER_00: So Brad admits that there was a body that came into the lab with signs of asphyxiation, but the high high hyoid, yeah.
[4:32] SPEAKER_00: Hyoid, hyoid boom was still intact.
[4:35] SPEAKER_00: Um there's a lot of big science results that I fucking butcher and it'll be fine.
[4:41] SPEAKER_00: Hell yeah.
[4:42] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[4:42] SPEAKER_00: So Dr.
[4:43] SPEAKER_00: Jack Sornson, who is the professor on human decomp, already had the body moved to the fields, and there's a little bit of suspicion about Jack here, but we don't know what yet.
[4:55] SPEAKER_01: First chapter.
[4:57] SPEAKER_01: My first thought, I was like, how fucking smart is Trisha and Bert and Bryn?
[5:03] SPEAKER_01: You know, like I know that they're that fucking smart, but like save some puss for the rest of us.
[5:09] SPEAKER_01: Like literally this chapter you need to show off this much, like, damn.
[5:14] SPEAKER_01: And because we've read both of their books, you know, like other works that they've done.
[5:19] SPEAKER_01: And it just, I don't know, it still just like blows me away when I'm like, wow, you're like smart, smart.
[5:26] SPEAKER_01: Like, damn.
[5:28] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[5:29] SPEAKER_01: You got that big, you got big lumpy brain.
[5:32] SPEAKER_01: Like it is full of lumps, and mine is real smooth.
[5:35] SPEAKER_01: So, second thought.
[5:37] SPEAKER_01: I love when authors co-write books because it means I guess I get to like try and guess who wrote what.
[5:43] SPEAKER_01: Who wrote what?
[5:44] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[5:44] SPEAKER_01: And I really want to know what everyone's guess is.
[5:46] SPEAKER_01: Bryn told us, so we will share it, but I really want to know because even when I was reading it, I don't know if I picked it.
[5:55] SPEAKER_01: I I don't know if I would have picked it up properly.
[5:58] SPEAKER_01: I really like, yeah.
[5:59] SPEAKER_00: Anyways, continue.
[6:00] SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
[6:02] SPEAKER_00: Um, so chapter two is Jack's POV.
[6:04] SPEAKER_00: Turns out he's a little bit of a stalker.
[6:07] SPEAKER_00: He'd be lurking.
[6:08] SPEAKER_00: Um, he followed Brad and Kiri and gave us this fancy little inner thought, which I don't know why I had to like quote it because it just must have like a whole bunch that I wrote down quotes for, so it's fine.
[6:21] SPEAKER_00: So he says, The first time I encountered the strange, annoying creature, I had the overwhelming urge to strangle her and trap her constant prattle of words in her slender throat, and stuff her in a freezer just to see her in a calm state.
[6:35] SPEAKER_00: You know, like men just don't express their feelings anymore.
[6:38] SPEAKER_00: Why don't you yearn like that?
[6:40] SPEAKER_00: Take some notes, guys.
[6:44] SPEAKER_00: Right?
[6:45] SPEAKER_00: If my husband ever says this to me, I don't know.
[6:47] SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have some problems, but okay.
[6:50] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[6:51] SPEAKER_00: So basically, I think he's already pretty down for Dr.
[6:54] SPEAKER_00: Raw.
[6:55] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[6:55] SPEAKER_00: But while waiting for her to leave Brad's, yeah, and it's been hours, he basically says fuck it and breaks it instead.
[7:02] SPEAKER_00: He's already done the recon.
[7:04] SPEAKER_00: He knows that there's no security cameras or alarm systems in place, so it's fine.
[7:08] SPEAKER_00: But he goes in and he finds that she's already gone.
[7:10] SPEAKER_00: Ah and she must have dipped out the back door.
[7:14] SPEAKER_01: That would scare the fuck out of me.
[7:15] SPEAKER_01: If you like think that you're like watching this, this house, and you're like waiting for those person, it's like they already left.
[7:21] SPEAKER_01: Did they pass me?
[7:22] SPEAKER_01: Were they in that car?
[7:23] SPEAKER_01: Like, I would be spiraling.
[7:27] SPEAKER_00: Well, and he notices too, like it's been long enough for them to like bang it out.
[7:32] SPEAKER_00: So when he heads in, he finds like Brad's still in bed sleeping, but alone.
[7:36] SPEAKER_00: And the dress that she wore to the gal is like on the floor in the laundry room.
[7:40] SPEAKER_00: So she's like, she's gone.
[7:41] SPEAKER_00: She dipped.
[7:42] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[7:42] SPEAKER_00: So he's like, okay, sweet.
[7:44] SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna head back to work, I guess.
[7:45] SPEAKER_00: So he goes back to the university.
[7:48] SPEAKER_00: And it's West Pain Incorporated.
[7:50] SPEAKER_00: It's nearly 50 acres for the university's body farm program, and it makes it the third largest in the country.
[7:57] SPEAKER_00: So it's a good spot for a dude that likes to murder to hide some stuff.
[8:01] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[8:01] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[8:02] SPEAKER_00: He goes in, he's checking off all of the boxes to make sure he's got like a pretty solid alibi.
[8:06] SPEAKER_00: He's using his wife guard and he logs into the last document on his computer.
[8:11] SPEAKER_00: Um, and then he heads out to the body farm.
[8:14] SPEAKER_00: So side note, this is so fucking cool.
[8:17] SPEAKER_00: And I actually like deep dove the forensic anthropology research facility in Texas years ago because it was so interesting that this is even a thing.
[8:25] SPEAKER_00: And I had no idea until someone at work one day was like, Oh, you look like somebody who'd be interested in a body farm.
[8:31] SPEAKER_00: And I was like, tell me a little bit more.
[8:32] SPEAKER_01: You know that there's like a few of them that are relatively close to where we are, right?
[8:37] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, turns out I'm very interested in that.
[8:40] SPEAKER_00: Um turns out I'm not sure.
[8:46] SPEAKER_00: Brad is uh kind of onto him, thanks to him questioning like this bone was missing from a body.
[8:55] SPEAKER_00: So to clear his mind, he like goes for a little stroll through the body farm and he stumbles upon Kiri digging a fucking hole by the riverbank.
[9:04] SPEAKER_01: Oh it had me fucking screaming.
[9:08] SPEAKER_01: Okay, um you are a lot braver than me, and obviously this is something that you're into, but how much for you to walk alone at night through a fucking body farm?
[9:19] SPEAKER_01: Like zero dollars in a crisp diet.
[9:21] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I thought.
[9:22] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
[9:24] SPEAKER_01: I was sitting and thinking, I don't know if there is an amount at night, not even a full moon, a crescent moon?
[9:32] SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
[9:32] SPEAKER_01: No light.
[9:33] SPEAKER_01: No light.
[9:34] SPEAKER_00: You know, I say that with full confidence, but then that one time, do you remember when we were driving to Portland and we had to find we had to pee so bad, we stopped at that, it was a campground.
[9:45] SPEAKER_00: Oh, but it was closed for the season.
[9:49] SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that?
[9:50] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that would be real life.
[9:52] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[9:52] SPEAKER_00: In my brain, I'm like, I know to do it.
[9:55] SPEAKER_00: Especially if you're Gregor walking out there, like all shoulders.
[10:00] SPEAKER_00: There's just bodies all over the place.
[10:01] SPEAKER_01: I'd be like, oh my god, there's ghosts.
[10:03] SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know what I'd be thinking.
[10:04] SPEAKER_01: There's my pants.
[10:05] SPEAKER_01: There's no, and you find someone digging.
[10:08] SPEAKER_01: Okay, she's also not just digging a body, okay?
[10:12] SPEAKER_01: She is dressed up to look like him.
[10:17] SPEAKER_01: Like she's wearing a weighted vest.
[10:19] SPEAKER_01: She has an old it's it's either old pair of shoes or or it's like boots that are like his.
[10:24] SPEAKER_01: It's his boots.
[10:25] SPEAKER_01: It's his boots, you know?
[10:26] SPEAKER_01: It's his so you probably right in the beginning don't a hundred percent recognize that it's her and this person's out here digging a body.
[10:35] SPEAKER_01: Someone who he did not suspect in any way, I would be shitting my fucking pants.
[10:41] SPEAKER_01: Also, though, I love that he's not just like, hey, you there.
[10:45] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he fucking decides to just like light up his zippo, which like they're loud if it's the only thing that's yeah.
[10:54] SPEAKER_00: Could you imagine digging a hole to bury a body in your weighted vest in your men's clothing, and all of a sudden you can hear someone fucking lighting a zippo lighter behind you?
[11:04] SPEAKER_00: Wetting my pants.
[11:05] SPEAKER_01: Like, oh great, now there's evidence everywhere.
[11:08] SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
[11:10] SPEAKER_01: But also, she kind of low-key wanted him.
[11:13] SPEAKER_01: Like, cause when she comes upon, she's like, hello, I've been waiting for you.
[11:20] SPEAKER_01: It is neat.
[11:21] SPEAKER_01: Hello! Like, what?
[11:22] SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
[11:23] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it okay.
[11:26] SPEAKER_01: Continue.
[11:27] SPEAKER_00: The next chapter is back to Kiri's POV.
[11:30] SPEAKER_00: So she is essentially scattering body parts.
[11:33] SPEAKER_00: She she has a dismembered body in this bag, and she tells him, Yeah, bruh, I refrained you.
[11:40] SPEAKER_00: Even wore this weighted vest in your boots to like match your size.
[11:44] SPEAKER_00: So, you know.
[11:46] SPEAKER_00: All she wants in this moment is for Jack to describe the first time that they met.
[11:51] SPEAKER_00: And he does.
[11:55] SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, I'm just way too excited.
[11:59] SPEAKER_00: And then stabs needle drugs into the jugular, and while he's losing consciousness, she's like, Ha bitch, that was actually not the first time.
[12:10] SPEAKER_00: Which is done.
[12:12] SPEAKER_01: Absolutely insane.
[12:13] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would love to if you ask someone a question and they answer incorrectly, to just stab them in the neck.
[12:21] SPEAKER_00: Stab him in the neck with the needles.
[12:23] SPEAKER_00: She literally just like drugs his ass, leaves.
[12:26] SPEAKER_00: Actually, it's Saturday.
[12:28] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[12:28] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[12:28] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[12:29] SPEAKER_00: So I I love her.
[12:30] SPEAKER_00: Uh man.
[12:31] SPEAKER_01: I think she's fantastic.
[12:32] SPEAKER_01: I like I said at the beginning, I cannot believe that this book is not talked about.
[12:38] SPEAKER_01: I haven't made it to the end, so maybe I'm totally wrong.
[12:40] SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'm gonna change my opinion.
[12:42] SPEAKER_01: But from what I have read so far, how how are people not screaming this?
[12:47] SPEAKER_01: I just want absolutely everybody to read these books to like because it just this one is so incredible.
[12:57] SPEAKER_01: Um, but because this is my first time reading, I am tossing out guesses.
[13:03] SPEAKER_01: They met before when he killed someone that she loved, is the guess that I'm going to start with.
[13:11] SPEAKER_01: So we will see what happens.
[13:14] SPEAKER_00: We will see what happens.
[13:15] SPEAKER_00: Back to uh Jack.
[13:18] SPEAKER_00: Um so they're both at work, they're doing some science, and Jack goes to Kiri's office to basically low-key blackmail her.
[13:25] SPEAKER_00: He has this recording of her, and she has the other half of the body that she dismembered and was framing him with.
[13:31] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[13:32] SPEAKER_00: Which also this is important.
[13:35] SPEAKER_00: The person that is dead that the dismembered is Mason, who is like a master's student.
[13:42] SPEAKER_00: He is the one that basically told Brad, hey, there is like an anomaly.
[13:46] SPEAKER_00: There's issues, yeah.
[13:48] SPEAKER_00: He's not just some rando guy.
[13:51] SPEAKER_00: He's a problem.
[13:52] SPEAKER_00: So she took care of it.
[13:53] SPEAKER_01: Yes.
[13:54] SPEAKER_00: So they strike out this little deal.
[13:56] SPEAKER_00: Um, basically, whoever gets Brad to leave on his own volition wins.
[14:01] SPEAKER_00: And when he does, they'll both take care of their half of erasing their blackmail on one another.
[14:06] SPEAKER_00: Brad's gotta go because he knows that there's like this discrepancy in the donated body, and now the student who found the discrepancy has gone missing, he's fucking dead.
[14:14] SPEAKER_00: Um, and as boring as Brad is, he's not dumb.
[14:17] SPEAKER_00: No.
[14:18] SPEAKER_00: And when he realizes all of this, shit's gonna get really fucking real.
[14:22] SPEAKER_01: And it already, because we're not getting Brad's POVs, so we're just making assumptions here.
[14:28] SPEAKER_01: But the vibe is vibing like Brad suspects Jack.
[14:34] SPEAKER_00: Like he he kind of, you know, he gets nervous, sweaty, and like shifty-eyed when Jack enters the room.
[14:41] SPEAKER_01: Well, and he's like, I can't tell you what the problem is here.
[14:44] SPEAKER_01: We had to go somewhere secret and discuss it.
[14:47] SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, he he already suspects Jack.
[14:50] SPEAKER_01: And also, it's not like, oh my god, I think he stole the pencils that are missing from my desk.
[14:56] SPEAKER_01: It's like, no, no, no, he's murdering people, is your speech.
[14:59] SPEAKER_01: Right?
[15:00] SPEAKER_01: Like, you're you're having some pretty big suspicions.
[15:04] SPEAKER_01: Like, these are not little baby.
[15:06] SPEAKER_01: He might be cheating on his wife.
[15:07] SPEAKER_01: No, you could end up dead, okay?
[15:08] SPEAKER_01: These are bad things.
[15:09] SPEAKER_01: You can die.
[15:10] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so chapter five, we get Kiri's POV.
[15:14] SPEAKER_01: So Kiri is getting coquettish with Jack, and she gives him a line that there's a few of these lines.
[15:22] SPEAKER_01: I'm using these, okay?
[15:24] SPEAKER_01: I'm saying these as you should as you should.
[15:27] SPEAKER_01: Suck my sweet pussy lips, Jack.
[15:32] SPEAKER_01: Ma'am.
[15:35] SPEAKER_01: This is a Denny's.
[15:37] SPEAKER_01: Like, what?
[15:39] SPEAKER_01: Whoa.
[15:40] SPEAKER_01: This is a Denny's.
[15:41] SPEAKER_01: This is a Denny's, yeah.
[15:43] SPEAKER_01: When I read that, I was like, oh my god, and because we know who has written this chapter, I was like, I was like, fucking bold.
[15:50] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[15:50] SPEAKER_01: That's a bold statement, and I love it.
[15:53] SPEAKER_01: So a staff meeting is called to announce that the grad student Mason, that's when he got murdered.
[15:58] SPEAKER_01: He's the one who brought up the inconsistency that he's missing.
[16:02] SPEAKER_01: And, you know, they're like, hey guys, until then, stay out of the body feeling like okay.
[16:08] SPEAKER_01: And then Eric Hayes walks into the room.
[16:11] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[16:12] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[16:12] SPEAKER_00: Also, could you imagine being the one that was like literally tossing this guy's dismembered body parts out there only to be told, like, the FBI is here, stay out because they're gonna be fucking dredging the body farm looking for this guy.
[16:24] SPEAKER_00: Uh, no, no.
[16:26] SPEAKER_01: There's no schooling my face in that moment.
[16:28] SPEAKER_01: I don't handle stress, like, I don't really get that kind of stress, so I definitely hyperhydroxy going on in my armpits.
[16:38] SPEAKER_00: I have a thing, I have to go bathe my snails.
[16:41] SPEAKER_00: Like, I would be doing some fucking weird shit.
[16:44] SPEAKER_00: I would be out of there so fast.
[16:45] SPEAKER_01: But we've been windows, and they'd be like, we found the problem.
[16:49] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's that person right there.
[16:52] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one million percent.
[16:54] SPEAKER_01: Um, so we get Jack's POV, and this, like Danielle said, this is special agent, Eric Hayes, with the violent crimes division.
[17:03] SPEAKER_01: He is here because it turns out that Mason also reported the discrepancies to the FBI.
[17:11] SPEAKER_01: So when he was reported missing, they came around sniffing, which narc brah, he was murdered.
[17:18] SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah.
[17:19] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, before he was murdered, he was a narc.
[17:23] SPEAKER_01: Snitches get stitches, Eric.
[17:26] SPEAKER_01: Or no, what was his name?
[17:27] SPEAKER_01: Mason.
[17:27] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what?
[17:29] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe you shouldn't have said anything.
[17:31] SPEAKER_01: Also, what do you care?
[17:32] SPEAKER_01: They're dead.
[17:33] SPEAKER_01: No, I I don't know.
[17:34] SPEAKER_01: I don't know what the proper thing is.
[17:36] SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to be cool.
[17:37] SPEAKER_01: I would narc as well.
[17:38] SPEAKER_01: Don't tell me that you're out here murdering people.
[17:41] SPEAKER_01: Um, there are also a lot of men that have been going missing from that area.
[17:46] SPEAKER_01: Jack overlooked Kiri.
[17:48] SPEAKER_01: And, you know, he's kind of like, uh, maybe I haven't been paying as much attention to her after Carex over here.
[17:57] SPEAKER_01: Brad was awarded some studying grant in Madrid under Kiri's influence, but that still leaves him as a problem for another three weeks.
[18:06] SPEAKER_01: So the bet has not been won just yet.
[18:09] SPEAKER_01: Um Jack are gonna need to work together to get rid of this agent Hayes because this is a fucking problem because they both did bodies out there.
[18:18] SPEAKER_00: Like this we've had problems before.
[18:21] SPEAKER_01: Now we got FBI problems.
[18:24] SPEAKER_01: The FBI! Yeah, yeah.
[18:27] SPEAKER_01: Man, you're all fucked.
[18:28] SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
[18:28] SPEAKER_01: I think I'd I'd just squeal.
[18:30] SPEAKER_01: Like just it was him.
[18:31] SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
[18:32] SPEAKER_01: I don't know what it is.
[18:35] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it would be very bad.
[18:38] SPEAKER_01: So we get Curie's POV.
[18:40] SPEAKER_01: She is in her off-grid hunting cabin.
[18:42] SPEAKER_01: She's got some frat boy D-bag Colby in an underground room.
[18:48] SPEAKER_01: She dropped some crumbs about her past, the silent slayer.
[18:53] SPEAKER_01: Curie was a victim of his when she was 17 and he murdered her parents.
[18:57] SPEAKER_01: Okay, now this die a fucking bollical.
[19:03] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, dude.
[19:04] SPEAKER_01: Pulling nails off with tweezers while Colby is like sitting there.
[19:09] SPEAKER_01: She's dismembered.
[19:10] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[19:10] SPEAKER_01: She takes out, because she still has body parts from Mason, and this like Colby guy is like, huh, please let me go.
[19:18] SPEAKER_01: And she's like, mm, and she's just pulling, ripping nails off this like arm that she's also like waving at him with, like, high five.
[19:28] SPEAKER_01: And then it's just like ripping off.
[19:32] SPEAKER_01: And she's like, okay, well, you're just gonna chill here.
[19:35] SPEAKER_01: I got shit to do.
[19:37] SPEAKER_01: She leaves him in the cabin, she returns to the body farm field, she has a rifle because it also like talks about how she was raised from like a hunting family, she had like a really good childhood, and she has been watching this coyote because her specialty is in, I want to call it animal studies, but that's not the right term.
[19:57] SPEAKER_01: It's like wildlife research.
[20:00] SPEAKER_01: What is she?
[20:02] SPEAKER_00: Uh, she is a hold on.
[20:04] SPEAKER_00: I literally wrote this down because I was like, hmm, that's very interesting.
[20:08] SPEAKER_00: And then she, right?
[20:09] SPEAKER_01: Like, because you kind of when they have like a body field and they're he's like studying, he's an anthropologist, and you're like, how come she is there?
[20:20] SPEAKER_01: Like, what is she studying?
[20:21] SPEAKER_01: And it's like, but she's also studying like animals being in this type of field and with this stuff.
[20:27] SPEAKER_01: That's gonna drive me crazy.
[20:29] SPEAKER_00: I can't remember.
[20:29] SPEAKER_00: It's something I'll figure it out.
[20:31] SPEAKER_01: I'll figure it out.
[20:32] SPEAKER_01: Wildlife doctor researcher.
[20:34] SPEAKER_01: If we don't add it in this time in this episode, we'll add it into next week once we have like the actual thing.
[20:38] SPEAKER_01: Because I kept saying to myself, write it down, write it down, and then I did it.
[20:42] SPEAKER_01: Um and as she's watching us coyote, Jack shows up.
[20:46] SPEAKER_01: They watched the coyote, and he's like, you know, like that thing is acting like fucked.
[20:50] SPEAKER_01: And she's like, Yeah, it has rabies.
[20:52] SPEAKER_01: It was my fault because I knew that it was a big She's a wildlife biologist.
[20:58] SPEAKER_01: There we go.
[20:59] SPEAKER_01: Biologist.
[21:00] SPEAKER_01: That's what the word is.
[21:01] SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
[21:02] SPEAKER_01: Wildlife biologist.
[21:04] SPEAKER_01: Biologist.
[21:04] SPEAKER_01: Um so she knew that the rabies was going around, but she either didn't douse with the vaccine quick enough or she didn't put enough in the traps.
[21:12] SPEAKER_01: And now this animal that she has studied for years and has like low-key grown to love has to die.
[21:17] SPEAKER_01: And Kyrie takes it.
[21:19] SPEAKER_00: And she has to be the one to kill it.
[21:22] SPEAKER_00: I could never do this.
[21:23] SPEAKER_01: No, me neither.
[21:24] SPEAKER_00: Like it's the same with like you could.
[21:26] SPEAKER_01: You have to, but I could.
[21:27] SPEAKER_01: You can't.
[21:28] SPEAKER_01: It's not for me.
[21:29] SPEAKER_01: No.
[21:30] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[21:30] SPEAKER_01: I'd I'd be like, I could fix it with love, and then I would get rabies.
[21:34] SPEAKER_01: And it would just you know.
[21:36] SPEAKER_01: So someone would have to shoot you.
[21:38] SPEAKER_01: We get the next chapter is a Jack POV, and Kyrie has put bits of mason, the fingernails, and other stuff into Jack's lunch.
[21:49] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[21:49] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[21:50] SPEAKER_01: You said to dispose of the body.
[21:52] SPEAKER_01: Digestin is a fantastic form of disposal, Jack.
[21:57] SPEAKER_01: Call the po we.
[22:00] SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, how did he realize that?
[22:02] SPEAKER_01: Did he see it?
[22:03] SPEAKER_00: You probably had a bite of them in toenails or something like fucking in a sandwich.
[22:09] SPEAKER_00: And he was like, this is weird and takes it out.
[22:13] SPEAKER_00: It was in his mouth.
[22:14] SPEAKER_01: What sense figured out that there was toenails and stuff in your food?
[22:21] SPEAKER_00: And why did you dig into something and been like, that texture doesn't?
[22:26] SPEAKER_00: Right?
[22:26] SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
[22:27] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[22:28] SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, if I don't cook my macaroni enough because I was lazy, but it doesn't taste like a full-on fingy nail.
[22:37] SPEAKER_01: Like this one, I don't know why, but I was like, I just have to sit with this for a few minutes.
[22:42] SPEAKER_01: Like I was just emotionally, I was like, there's some shit happening here.
[22:49] SPEAKER_01: There's something happening here.
[22:52] SPEAKER_01: Like, I was like, I don't know who you gotta call, but you gotta call somebody.
[22:55] SPEAKER_01: Like, I would FBI man, there's a fingernail in my salad.
[23:00] SPEAKER_01: Like, I wouldn't um so Jack goes on the hunt and he sees this man that Kiri has been watching.
[23:07] SPEAKER_01: He is wearing a baseball hat belonging to Brad, and he's doing a few things that could implicate Brad.
[23:14] SPEAKER_01: He takes the victim to some cabin in the woods, and after totally losing control during his process, he kills the guy in like basically like a cage match, which okay, sidebar.
[23:25] SPEAKER_01: They mention Thunderdome in this a lot, and the cultural references, it just makes me so happy.
[23:32] SPEAKER_01: Anytime there's pop culture stuff, I'm like, fuck, now I gotta watch Thunderdome again.
[23:36] SPEAKER_01: Um, and he's like, come at me, and basically overpowers him, kills the guy, and then cranks one out to the thought of Curie.
[23:46] SPEAKER_01: I know we debated this before recording.
[23:49] SPEAKER_01: But now we gotta debate it here.
[23:51] SPEAKER_01: Where over top of the body, making eye contact with the body, I think he tucked it in his shirt.
[23:57] SPEAKER_01: You think he tucked it in his shirt?
[23:58] SPEAKER_01: I think it's I'd be like, Don't crime sink, don't look.
[24:02] SPEAKER_01: No, because when he's leaving, he says, like, well, now there's the body and blood and come.
[24:08] SPEAKER_01: And he's like, best light the building on fire.
[24:11] SPEAKER_01: I don't know, man.
[24:12] SPEAKER_01: Like, you're it was the scene.
[24:15] SPEAKER_01: Lines, wires are getting crossed.
[24:18] SPEAKER_01: This is how bad things, you know, but also what what's worse?
[24:21] SPEAKER_01: He's out already on the phone.
[24:23] SPEAKER_00: With a dead guy's blood on his hands.
[24:26] SPEAKER_00: I know, dude.
[24:29] SPEAKER_00: I have so many things.
[24:32] SPEAKER_00: I yeah, yeah, it uh it went to place.
[24:35] SPEAKER_00: But it was like the slow-mo walk away from the building.
[24:40] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he has like a trail of gasoline and then just drops like he has a new lighter because Kiri obviously stole his.
[24:46] SPEAKER_01: And it's like, God damn it, I need my lucky lighter.
[24:49] SPEAKER_01: And then, like, man, I would never lost control enough to jerk off over this dead guy's body if I had my lucky zippo still.
[24:58] SPEAKER_01: Right?
[24:59] SPEAKER_01: But man, here we are.
[25:01] SPEAKER_01: Buy a second one, they have them all over the place.
[25:04] SPEAKER_01: So we get now Kiri's POV.
[25:07] SPEAKER_01: We are on chapter nine.
[25:09] SPEAKER_01: Kiri and Jack are both working in the lab.
[25:11] SPEAKER_01: After dropping her award, the one that she like got in the first chapter, it shatters and it triggers her to go into this flashback.
[25:19] SPEAKER_01: Okay, she is tied up, her mom is laying on the ground beside her, murdered.
[25:24] SPEAKER_01: After her dad tries to save her, he is brutally murdered as well.
[25:31] SPEAKER_01: Then there is Jack.
[25:34] SPEAKER_01: He just shows up, he's got a garot at the throat of the man who killed her parents, and he is choking the life out of him.
[25:44] SPEAKER_01: Telling him like saying like the same words that he's used on Curie, like the same statements like this is my territory, like this town ain't big enough for the two of us, you know, that old chestnut.
[25:59] SPEAKER_01: And Kurie passes out, and when she wakes up next, the murderer is gone, his tools are gone, and Jack is gone.
[26:08] SPEAKER_01: So turns out that I was wrong about him killing the parents, so I'm happy about well, we think these are flashbacks.
[26:14] SPEAKER_01: We don't, I don't know for sure, but from my from my assumption, um when she comes out of the flashback, Jack has come over, she has cut herself on this glass from the shattered award.
[26:26] SPEAKER_01: Jack patches her up, there's this little back and forth, and she is like giving him hints about who she is and how he would know her, but I don't think that he has figured it out yet.
[26:37] SPEAKER_01: Like I don't, but also I don't know because he keeps giving her, he has these like Himalayan poppies that he gets to bloom to the exact shade of her eyes.
[26:47] SPEAKER_00: That he has been breeding for three years to get them to be the correct blue.
[26:53] SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, If he wanted to, he would.
[26:55] SPEAKER_01: Oh right, yeah, right?
[26:57] SPEAKER_01: I didn't even know these flowers existed, and now I want them.
[27:00] SPEAKER_01: He created them.
[27:02] SPEAKER_01: It just Jack, I love you.
[27:05] SPEAKER_01: Uh he takes care of her, and when she arrives at work a few days later, he has replaced her broken award with one that's made of brass so that it's as not to trigger her, and you know, so she actually has her award.
[27:18] SPEAKER_01: Like so yeah, spicy taco, man.
[27:24] SPEAKER_01: I just really spicy taco.
[27:28] SPEAKER_01: Well, gang, that wraps up part one of Merrill by Trisha Wolf and Brynn Weaver, and I am fucking loving it.
[27:37] SPEAKER_01: Like this book has me hooked.
[27:39] SPEAKER_01: I am pissed that I didn't read this sooner.
[27:41] SPEAKER_01: It has literally been on my Kindle for years.
[27:43] SPEAKER_01: I just never opened it, so Captain Stupid Award goes to me.
[27:48] SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
[27:49] SPEAKER_01: We're doing it now.
[27:50] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[27:50] SPEAKER_01: I made mistakes.
