[0:18] SPEAKER_01: We are dissecting chapters 10 to the end of 15.
[0:23] SPEAKER_01: I know that we said we were going to 16, but 16 feels more like it should go with the rest of the state.
[0:30] SPEAKER_01: So we're stopping at 15.
[0:32] SPEAKER_01: So for the first 10 chapters, go back and listen to last week's episode.
[0:37] SPEAKER_01: A quick refresh.
[0:38] SPEAKER_01: We have Dr.
[0:40] SPEAKER_01: Kiri Roth, wildlife biologist by day, serial killer by night, and we have Dr.
[0:47] SPEAKER_01: Jack Sorensen, forensic anthropologist by day, and big shocker here, serial killer by night.
[0:55] SPEAKER_01: Once they both realize who the other is, they're in competition to get co-worker slash Kiri's casual bang bro, Brad, and I'll say that quickly, to leave the school, and the successful one who gets him to leave will kick the other one out of their hunting territory.
[1:15] SPEAKER_01: So Kiri's family was attacked by a serial killer when she was a teenager, and she was the only survivor.
[1:22] SPEAKER_01: So big pools of blood ahead.
[1:25] SPEAKER_01: Turn back now to avoid spoilers.
[1:29] SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, right.
[1:31] SPEAKER_01: At least one.
[1:32] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[1:33] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
[1:34] SPEAKER_01: So chapter 10, this is Jack's POV.
[1:38] SPEAKER_01: Turns out the house that Jack burnt down was Brad's, uh, and Avi, Brad, has been arrested.
[1:44] SPEAKER_01: Okay, let me say, I did not pick up on that until Brad was arrested.
[1:49] SPEAKER_01: No, I didn't realize that's whose house he was in.
[1:51] SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, it's just like in a cabin.
[1:54] SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize how also, like, everyone has a cabin.
[1:57] SPEAKER_01: I don't own a cabin.
[1:58] SPEAKER_01: Like, what the hell?
[1:59] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we should get one.
[2:00] SPEAKER_01: We should get one, and then someone can burn it down.
[2:03] SPEAKER_01: You know, we'll see.
[2:04] SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
[2:04] SPEAKER_01: Um, we'll see what happens.
[2:06] SPEAKER_01: Jack tells Kiri that FBI Eric Hayes isn't here for Mason's disappearance.
[2:12] SPEAKER_01: So Mason was the student, whatever the master's student.
[2:19] SPEAKER_01: The master's student that was helping them on the body farm.
[2:23] SPEAKER_01: Yes.
[2:23] SPEAKER_01: Um, and then disappeared after he said, Hey, there's like discrepancies.
[2:29] SPEAKER_01: Um, he assumes that he's here for something to do with Kiri.
[2:35] SPEAKER_01: And Kiri asks him about the dude from the bar that Jack killed.
[2:39] SPEAKER_01: And we get some action between the two of them.
[2:43] SPEAKER_01: Things are getting hot and heavy.
[2:46] SPEAKER_01: And during this, Jack bites her neck and he feels some scar tissue and demands to know right?
[2:54] SPEAKER_01: Like, how hurt her.
[2:59] SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh, so let me get my molars on here, right?
[3:06] SPEAKER_01: And he realizes that this that she also has scars on her chest of the similar nature.
[3:14] SPEAKER_01: So, okay, things are happening.
[3:16] SPEAKER_01: Jack runs all the way home and he goes into his sneaky storage room behind a fake bookshelf, which again, why do I not have these in my house?
[3:26] SPEAKER_01: Yes, right?
[3:27] SPEAKER_01: And he gets an old camcorder, watches the footage back, and realizes that the girl he thought was dead at the hands of the serial killer, the silent slayer, is Kiri, and she is alive, and that he also may have helped to make her into a serial killer.
[3:45] SPEAKER_03: And then he says that she's his marrow.
[3:48] SPEAKER_01: I know.
[3:49] SPEAKER_01: Every time that they throw out the title of the book in this, I'm like, eh! Yeah, squealing.
[3:55] SPEAKER_01: It just right, it just makes me so excited.
[3:58] SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
[4:00] SPEAKER_01: So, chapter 11, we've got Kiri's point of view.
[4:03] SPEAKER_01: Jack calls her into his office and presents her with a gift.
[4:07] SPEAKER_01: It is the hyoid bone from Trevor Winters.
[4:11] SPEAKER_01: This is the silent slayer.
[4:13] SPEAKER_01: He was a drifter who picked her up at a bar that she went to when she was a teenager.
[4:18] SPEAKER_01: She had a fake ID and he drugged her.
[4:21] SPEAKER_01: Jack was hunting him that night, but he didn't see him.
[4:25] SPEAKER_01: He couldn't find him, and he was like, Okay, you know, this I had this on my to-do list today.
[4:30] SPEAKER_01: Let me go find this guy because you know, he gotta be killed, and saw his truck behind her family's home.
[4:38] SPEAKER_01: And we find out her real name, Isabel Curie Clark.
[4:44] SPEAKER_01: Jack tells her that, yeah, I did leave you, but I thought that you were Bro, I thought you were dead.
[4:51] SPEAKER_01: I thought you were dead.
[4:53] SPEAKER_01: Like, my bad.
[4:54] SPEAKER_01: Fuck.
[4:55] SPEAKER_01: Like, you look dead, girls.
[4:57] SPEAKER_01: You see the scar tissue that I'm freaking gnawing on?
[4:59] SPEAKER_01: I thought you were dead.
[5:02] SPEAKER_01: Right.
[5:02] SPEAKER_01: Also, he doesn't and has never hated her.
[5:07] SPEAKER_01: She is essentially an enigma to him.
[5:09] SPEAKER_03: Obviously, he's been like growing flowers the exact shade of her iris for years for years.
[5:18] SPEAKER_01: Um, and he basically like says, like, if you had opened up your eyes, number one, I would have realized that you were alive.
[5:24] SPEAKER_01: Um, but also I would have recognized you.
[5:27] SPEAKER_01: So, girl, really, we're both at fault here.
[5:30] SPEAKER_01: Like, I see that you're trying to give me all the blame, but come on.
[5:34] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[5:34] SPEAKER_01: Uh, the next day, FBI Hayes stops to chat with her and he asks her about Brad and Jack, and he tells her that he thinks that the silent slayer is still around, but he just changed his MO.
[5:47] SPEAKER_02: Which is that so?
[5:52] SPEAKER_02: Right.
[5:52] SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
[5:53] SPEAKER_02: Well, I happen to have a bone of his, so I think you're a fucking idiot in your case.
[6:01] SPEAKER_01: But also, even like when this happened in the book, I was like, did did he change his MO?
[6:06] SPEAKER_01: Like, is it totally throwing me off the scent?
[6:11] SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm just falling for everything.

[6:25] SPEAKER_03: And uh, your girl's getting wine drunk and wigging out in the club.

[6:38] SPEAKER_03: Just like toss on a wig and oh away you go.

[7:19] SPEAKER_03: So, of course, Jack shows up to tell her that blonde isn't her color, and also to remind her that there's a serial killer still on the loose.

[7:29] SPEAKER_01: Bro, I know you killed my whole family.
[7:31] SPEAKER_03: It's me.
[7:31] SPEAKER_03: It's me.
[7:34] SPEAKER_03: Um, one thing that I absolutely love about her, though, is her ability to rage bait a man.
[7:40] SPEAKER_03: And I can't wait for when we can discuss who wrote who.
[7:48] SPEAKER_03: Because it makes a lot of sense, I feel.
[7:50] SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
[7:51] SPEAKER_03: So she's she's telling Jack that FBI boy was waiting outside her house after her run with her dog, and basically told her he doesn't think Brad had anything to do with the fire or the body, but thinks that the silent slayer is still active.

[8:11] SPEAKER_03: I've fallen for it, and I'm like, maybe, Kiri.
[8:14] SPEAKER_03: Kiri and her wig are at the bar here to hunt.
[8:17] SPEAKER_03: And her target is Sebastian Madeo.
[8:21] SPEAKER_03: Um, so Sebastian Madeo is Anna Madeo's younger brother, and she was murdered by the Silent Slayer 12 years ago.
[8:30] SPEAKER_03: So Sebastian.
[8:31] SPEAKER_01: It's so smart because they're doing this to like low-key throw, I guess, like the FBI guy off their scent.
[8:39] SPEAKER_01: Is that why he's her target?
[8:42] SPEAKER_03: I think she just likes killing.

[8:49] SPEAKER_03: So I don't think that there's like a better way to lure him than to make out with Jack on the dance floor.
[8:54] SPEAKER_03: And it obviously works perfectly because they convince him to come back to Kiri's place for a little partage.

[9:04] SPEAKER_03: And it's just the three of them.
[9:06] SPEAKER_03: And he's like, oh, like, where's the party?
[9:08] SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know where they're they're on their way.
[9:10] SPEAKER_03: So they put on a little show for him.
[9:14] SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
[9:16] SPEAKER_03: And some hunt.
[9:16] SPEAKER_03: And he makes a move to touch Kiri.
[9:20] SPEAKER_03: Jack slits this guy's fucking throat.
[9:25] SPEAKER_03: Um and then they fuck in Sebastian's pool of blood because romance is alive and well.

[9:38] SPEAKER_03: I feel like there has to be a specific criteria, but yeah, sure.
[9:42] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so like I've been ravenous, but I don't know if I've ever been this ravenous.
[9:47] SPEAKER_00: You've been ravenous.
[9:49] SPEAKER_00: I've been ravenous.
[9:51] SPEAKER_01: I also had to look up the actual definition of ravenous after I said it.
[9:55] SPEAKER_01: Yes.
[9:56] SPEAKER_01: Because I was like, does that mean I'm eating people?

[10:03] SPEAKER_01: Um, and shout out to listener Amy, who told me recently that blood can be a substitute for egg whites in a recipe.

[10:44] SPEAKER_03: And he has to basically find an easy way to dispose of Sebastian.
[10:48] SPEAKER_03: Um and he crosses a border to do it.
[10:51] SPEAKER_03: So he wants it to be somewhere where he'll be found in a couple of days.
[10:55] SPEAKER_03: He doesn't want to be to be found right away.
[10:57] SPEAKER_03: Um, and to make sure that his alibi is kind of in place, he visits his mom.
[11:02] SPEAKER_03: She's in a facility.
[11:03] SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it's like a hospital or like a care facility, but she's basically been in a vegetative state since Jack was 16 years old.
[11:09] SPEAKER_03: Um, after her husband nearly killed her.
[11:12] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[11:13] SPEAKER_03: Which is like Jack's life makes a lot of sense now.
[11:16] SPEAKER_03: So he killed his father that night, rightfully so.
[11:19] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[11:20] SPEAKER_03: Um, and he also felt that his parents always knew something was off with him, and that's why his father like took it out on his mom.
[11:26] SPEAKER_03: Was because of Jack's being a freaky little fucking weirdo.
[11:31] SPEAKER_01: Which rude.
[11:33] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[11:33] SPEAKER_01: Bruh, he lives in like a mansion now and he has a cabin, like, success.
[11:38] SPEAKER_01: He's doing stuff.

[11:46] SPEAKER_03: So Low Burn is talking to Mama.

[11:52] SPEAKER_03: And he shows her his sketchbook drawings of Kiri.
[11:57] SPEAKER_03: Because he doesn't have photos of her, like on a phone or something like a normal person.

[12:02] SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I'm really into that or if I'm freaked out by it.
[12:06] SPEAKER_01: I think I like it.
[12:08] SPEAKER_01: But again, uh thankfully they like describe like they are good sketches, but could you imagine if it's just like stick man?
[12:16] SPEAKER_03: No, that's how I picture it.
[12:18] SPEAKER_03: It's like using like crayons, you know?
[12:22] SPEAKER_03: And it's like, hey, what's bad Crayola art is what I'm picturing.
[12:26] SPEAKER_03: And it makes me upset.
[12:27] SPEAKER_01: It's like two people holding hands, and there's like the yellow sun and the like very like three-wall house with the freaking like roof.

[12:38] SPEAKER_03: Um, this chapter though ends with this little quote, and I I thought it was really nice, so I put it in here.
[12:45] SPEAKER_03: He says, I have killed for my mother, I've killed for survival, out of compulsion, to state cravings, and even at times for fun.
[12:52] SPEAKER_03: But the decisive difference is that I wouldn't just kill for Kiri.
[12:56] SPEAKER_03: I would give my life.
[12:57] SPEAKER_03: Hell, I'd even let her take it.
[13:02] SPEAKER_03: Fuck someone in a pool of blood one time, and all of a sudden you're in love.

[13:29] SPEAKER_03: Cannon tells him at work um that he's basically going to get rid of Kiri, which he assumes Jack would be happy about because he spent the last what three years trying to get rid of her.
[13:41] SPEAKER_03: Hurting her and shit.
[13:42] SPEAKER_01: Treating her shit and working on this.
[13:44] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[13:45] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[13:45] SPEAKER_03: So she has three months left in her contract, and then she'll be f gone.
[13:51] SPEAKER_03: Which obviously now things have changed.
[13:55] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[13:55] SPEAKER_03: They're they have a blood pact.
[13:57] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[13:58] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.

[14:00] SPEAKER_03: Um, so now he's in love, so everything's gonna be different.

[14:05] SPEAKER_03: Cannon, like, don't worry, I'll deal with her, I'll chat with her, or whatever.
[14:10] SPEAKER_03: So he goes into her office and she's on a video call with a donor, and he like sneaks in and crawls under the table.
[14:19] SPEAKER_03: He crawls under the table.
[14:23] SPEAKER_03: Well, she's on a video call with a donor.
[14:26] SPEAKER_03: At her adult top.
[14:27] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[14:27] SPEAKER_03: He crawls under the table.

[14:35] SPEAKER_03: So when they wrap that up, uh before he leaves his off but her office, he basically pulls out his phone, which he has.
[14:43] SPEAKER_03: Take a photo of her so you can show your mom, you fucking weirdo.
[14:46] SPEAKER_03: Um he shows that he is deleting the proof of like the incriminating evidence that he has of her on his phone and tells her, like, bring your best game to my place tonight.

[15:01] SPEAKER_03: And also the bones that you're holding over my head as evidence, and uh we'll see what happens.
[15:07] SPEAKER_03: We'll just level the playing field.
[15:09] SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
[15:09] SPEAKER_03: And I'm sorry, but if you crawled under my desk while I was on a Zoom call as like bribery, yeah.

[15:43] SPEAKER_03: Um, so she heads to Jack's for their little date night, but before they can take their clothes off, he's like, I have to tell you something, it's really, it's really important.
[15:53] SPEAKER_03: I have to share this with you.
[15:55] SPEAKER_03: Um, he hacked into the FBI's database, and it turns out that Eric Hayes was actually let go from the FBI five years prior because his obsession with the silent slayer has was having a negative impact on the actual case.
[16:12] SPEAKER_03: This blew my mind.
[16:15] SPEAKER_01: Yes.
[16:15] SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, wig straight off.
[16:18] SPEAKER_01: I don't know why this I saw nothing coming.
[16:23] SPEAKER_01: I did not, I was like, yeah, FBI man.
[16:26] SPEAKER_01: This guy's people are being murdered.
[16:29] SPEAKER_01: People are being murdered all over the place.
[16:31] SPEAKER_01: Okay, yes, maybe he should be obsessed, but also this guy is fake badging it.

[16:41] SPEAKER_01: Also, he ain't got no money, so like how are you paying your bills?

[18:49] SPEAKER_03: And while she's snooping, she finds transfer papers and acceptance letter.
[18:57] SPEAKER_03: I don't really understand what it is because I'm an idiot.
[19:00] SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I think that's kind of what it's like.
[19:02] SPEAKER_03: It's basically like, hey, come on down to Canada.
[19:05] SPEAKER_03: Uh, see you soon.
[19:07] SPEAKER_03: And so she's like, what the fuck?
[19:09] SPEAKER_03: Goes for another little wander in the house and comes across like the conservatory, which like how big is this guy's house?
[19:16] SPEAKER_01: Uh huge, huge.
[19:18] SPEAKER_01: When he's doing a little tour and is like, hey, come check out my house.
[19:23] SPEAKER_01: He's like, here's my gym.
[19:25] SPEAKER_01: Here's gonna move.
[19:27] SPEAKER_01: Here's my recording studio, here's my like sunroom, here's my secret wine cellar, which goes into my secret kill room.
[19:36] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like his house, he's rich, rich.

[19:43] SPEAKER_03: So she finds the conservatory, and there are blue flowers everywhere.
[19:48] SPEAKER_03: Not just any blue flowers, but blue flowers that he has bred to match the exact color of her iris.

[19:57] SPEAKER_03: So like roses and lilies, and just if he wanted to, he would.

[20:04] SPEAKER_03: So she's lurking, and while she's lurking, she kind of sees like a glimpse of someone outside in the corner of her eye, and it's somebody loading like a rolled up carpet into a van and taking off.

[20:18] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so the new carpet, he had the carpet in his house replaced because he knew that cream carpets were like a trigger for her.

[20:31] SPEAKER_01: But also, I and again, because I have not read this, I feel like we've got some miscommunication on the horizon because she's seeing transfer papers and you know, there's carpets going on.

[22:33] SPEAKER_01: And I don't know if like it got answered or if it's coming in our future, but I cannot stop thinking about that guy and what's happening with him.
[22:41] SPEAKER_01: So if she comes and stays with Jack, she's just left this person, like this unfinished job.
