I Caught My Fiancé With My Sister While Pregnant, And Tomorrow I’m Exposing...

## Transcript

[0:00] I caught my fiance with my sister while pregnant and
[0:02] tomorrow I'm exposing everything at our family gathering.
[0:05] I have reached the edge of what I can bear.
[0:08] I am 28 and have been with my fiance for just over three
[0:11] years. We live together with my 4 year
[0:13] old daughter from a previous relationship. 3 weeks ago I
[0:17] found out I am pregnant again. At first I was overjoyed, naive
[0:21] enough to think we were finally creating the stable family I had
[0:23] always wanted. He grew distant the very next
[0:26] day. He ignored my excitement,
[0:28] started coming home late, and kept his phone glued to him at
[0:31] all times. I began noticing strange calls
[0:33] and those discreet social media notifications that vanish too
[0:36] quickly. My gut told me to investigate.
[0:39] I almost wish I had not. He has been secretly hooking up
[0:42] with my older sister behind my back.
[0:45] She was the one I always tolerated, even though she drags
[0:47] drama wherever she goes. She would hug me when relatives
[0:50] were around, pretend to be the supportive older sibling, then
[0:53] turn around and badmouth me to her friends.
[0:56] I never imagined she would crawl into my life this deeply.
[0:59] It felt like a slap in the face to read their messages calling
[1:02] me clueless for not noticing. He told her about the pregnancy
[1:05] before he was honest with me about his doubts, and they joked
[1:08] about how stressed I would be raising another child.
[1:10] My sister bragged that our entire family thinks she is the
[1:13] more interesting and more popular sibling.
[1:15] Meanwhile, I am just the quiet one who apparently deserves
[1:18] this. I do not know if they are still
[1:20] meeting in secret or if they just get a kick out of hurting
[1:23] me. My fiance denies everything
[1:25] whenever I confront him, says I am hormonal, that my imagination
[1:29] is running wild. My sister keeps messaging me,
[1:32] telling me I should keep my mouth shut and stop being
[1:34] dramatic. I am done hiding my anger.
[1:37] My mother wants me to talk it out calmly, but how do I fix
[1:40] something so broken I can barely breathe?
[1:42] My fiance thinks I will just accept this.
[1:44] He is counting on me being too shy or too pregnant to do
[1:47] anything. Tomorrow I plan to blow this up
[1:49] in front of the entire family. We are supposed to have a casual
[1:53] get together at our parents house.
[1:54] Ironically, to celebrate my pregnancy announcement, I will
[1:57] gather my phone logs, the screenshots, and all those
[2:00] humiliating texts they sent each other.
[2:03] Once all the relatives have settled in, I will put
[2:05] everything on display. No more secrets.
[2:08] I might burn everything in the process.
[2:10] I might lose any chance of a pleasant Co parenting scenario.
[2:14] But I feel like I have no other way to reclaim my dignity.
[2:17] I have been crying nonstop for days.
[2:19] My nerves are shot and all I get from my fiance is either silent
[2:23] treatment or insults. My sister taunts me and acts
[2:26] like I am worthless. I see no reason to protect them
[2:29] anymore. I do not know what happens next.
[2:32] Maybe they will run off together, Maybe they will lie or
[2:35] twist things around to make me look insane.
[2:37] My fiance has not contributed much financially so I worry
[2:40] about affording my daughter and this potential new baby on my
[2:43] own. Yet I cannot pretend everything
[2:45] is normal. I have to protect whatever self
[2:48] respect I have left. I am going to set my entire
[2:51] world on fire tomorrow. Part of me feels terrified, the
[2:54] other part is numb. Regardless, I am done letting
[2:57] them tiptoe around my heart. If they want my silence, they
[3:01] should have kept their betrayal better hidden.
[3:03] Let everyone see exactly who they are.
[3:05] That is all I have left. Update I am still reeling from
[3:09] what happened. After writing my Last Post.
[3:12] I spent hours debating with myself about whether I should
[3:14] really go through with exposing them at our family gathering.
[3:18] A part of me was scared I would turn my whole life upside down
[3:20] forever, but I knew I couldn't keep letting them walk all over
[3:23] me while pretending everything was fine.
[3:26] I called my mom beforehand to let her know I was breaking up
[3:28] with him and to prepare her. When I arrived at my parents'
[3:31] house, everyone was already there, including my ex fiance
[3:35] and my sister. My mother tried to pull me
[3:37] aside, whispering that we should talk first.
[3:40] I stayed calm, walked straight into the living room where
[3:42] everyone was sitting, and asked them to listen.
[3:45] They looked confused. My sister immediately rolled her
[3:48] eyes and my fiance mumbled something, probably hoping I
[3:51] would stay silent. I started reading the most
[3:54] shocking parts of the messages I found between the two of them.
[3:57] They mocked me, joked about me not noticing anything, and said
[4:00] I deserve this. I had time stamps proving he was
[4:03] sneaking around with my own sister while I was at home with
[4:05] my daughter. My sister stood up and accused
[4:08] me of lying, her voice defensive and low pitched, but I just kept
[4:12] reading. The messages spoke for
[4:13] themselves. I revealed how he told her about
[4:16] my pregnancy before even discussing it with me, and how
[4:18] they laughed about me being stressed raising another child.
[4:21] My fiance tried to dismiss me, claiming I was overreacting and
[4:25] misinterpreting the situation because of my emotional pregnant
[4:28] state. He even blamed my mental health.
[4:31] By then, he stormed out of the room and my sister started
[4:34] crying. My dad stared at the floor,
[4:37] silent, while my mother looked horrified.
[4:39] Finally my sister snapped and stormed out yelling that I was a
[4:43] dramatic liar who blew everything out of proportion.
[4:45] Now the fallout begins. My fiance or rather my ex fiance
[4:50] has been texting me non-stop. 1 moment he says he is sorry, the
[4:55] next he blames me for humiliating him.
[4:57] He shows 0 genuine remorse. He is just mad that I exposed
[5:01] him. My sister calls me horrendous
[5:03] names, says I ruined her image and refuses to take
[5:06] responsibility. She insists I am making up
[5:09] drama. Honestly, I do not even know if
[5:12] they are still seeing each other or blaming each other for being
[5:14] caught. Either way, their secret is out
[5:17] and that is all I wanted. I am now talking to a lawyer
[5:20] because this man barely contributed financially before.
[5:23] I have to protect my daughter and ensure I never have a child
[5:26] with him. Only.
[5:27] The thought of raising two kids alone is terrifying.
[5:30] I feel numb and heartbroken at times, but I also feel a strange
[5:33] sense of relief. At least everyone knows the
[5:36] truth now. I exposed everything that day in
[5:38] the living room, but at least I am no longer being trampled on
[5:41] in silence. My sister and ex fiance can no
[5:44] longer laugh behind my back. Yes, things will probably get
[5:47] messy. They might lie to other
[5:49] relatives, people we mutually know, or twist the story, but I
[5:53] am glad I refuse to keep quiet. All I can do now is focus on the
[5:57] positive, talk to my lawyer and move forward.
[6:00] It will be painful, but I will do everything in my power to
[6:02] build a new future on my own terms, far away from these
[6:05] people. Now to the next story.
[6:08] Story 2 My parents refuse to help fund my college, but now
[6:11] they want me to pay for my sister's lavish wedding.
[6:14] Am I the asshole for causing family drama by refusing?
[6:18] I, 34 million, am a software developer and I earn much more
[6:21] than the rest of my family. My mother is a retired music
[6:25] teacher and my father manages the neighborhood hardware shop.
[6:28] I also have a younger sister, Catherine, 30, who I haven't
[6:32] spoken to in five years. This is primarily because she is
[6:35] a bad person, spoiled and entitled.
[6:38] She's been that way since childhood, and my parents did
[6:40] nothing to dissuade or prevent her from becoming so.
[6:43] I endured her conduct for a long time, until five years ago, when
[6:47] she invited her new partner to Christmas dinner I was hosting
[6:50] that year. Since I had recently moved into
[6:52] a new apartment and wanted to do something special, Catherine, as
[6:55] usual, wrecked the entire celebration by making
[6:58] superfluous remarks about my house's small size and age.
[7:01] She claimed it wasn't even in a good neighborhood and kept
[7:03] bragging about her new partner, who happened to be wealthy and
[7:06] lived on a large estate more than 10 times the size of my
[7:09] apartment. I could not handle it anymore.
[7:12] I reminded her that, unlike her boyfriend, I had moved into my
[7:15] apartment and was paying all of the rent on my own without
[7:18] assistance from my parents, something neither she nor her
[7:20] boyfriend could say for themselves.
[7:22] I also told her that if she had such high standards, she might
[7:25] escort herself out of my house and never return.
[7:28] Unsurprisingly, she and her partner were offended because
[7:31] everything was true and they fled.
[7:33] Since then, we haven't communicated.
[7:35] My parents have made numerous attempts to reconcile us, but I
[7:38] refuse to see her. The only reason I had a
[7:41] relationship with her before was because of my parents, but I
[7:44] couldn't take it any longer. It's been five years since our
[7:47] last conversation, and I recently discovered she's
[7:49] engaged to the same boyfriend she was dating back then.
[7:52] They're getting married in a few months.
[7:54] My folks, like fools, insisted on paying for the wedding site
[7:58] and decor so that they wouldn't be surpassed by the groom's
[8:00] parents. I think this was a very stupid
[8:03] move on their side. First, they should have
[8:05] recognized Catherine has costly taste and her plans would be
[8:08] much out of their price range. Second, they couldn't outdo the
[8:11] groom's parents who are significantly more financially
[8:14] secure. I'm not sure what they were
[8:16] thinking, but they had already committed and the wedding is
[8:19] only a few months away. With my sister's lavish
[8:22] preparations, my parents immediately realized they
[8:24] couldn't afford everything and asked me for a loan a few days
[8:27] ago. Despite having a positive
[8:29] relationship with my parents for several years, I had to decline.
[8:33] This choice is based on an event that occurred several years ago.
[8:36] I'm on Reddit now because I'm questioning if I did the correct
[8:39] thing. Many of my family accused me of
[8:41] being petty, but I disagree. When I was going to graduate
[8:44] from high school and enter college, my parents informed me
[8:47] that they wouldn't support my college tuition or any other
[8:50] fees. They explained that once I had
[8:52] turned 18, I was on my own. I was surprised by this because
[8:55] my parents had always been quite supportive of me, so this seemed
[8:58] out of character for them. They went on to explain that
[9:01] back in their day, they had to fend for themselves after
[9:04] turning 18 because their parents were not wealthy enough to fund
[9:07] their costs. They believed that this
[9:09] experience had strengthened their resilience and
[9:11] independence, and they encouraged me to follow suit.
[9:14] They had not even set aside any money for my sister and me,
[9:17] insisting that we work our way through college just as they
[9:20] had. My subject was not simple, and I
[9:22] didn't want to waste time working while attending college.
[9:25] I wasn't sure I'd be able to retain my grades while balancing
[9:28] both commitments. Furthermore, college is
[9:30] expensive and no amount of part time job will cover the
[9:33] expenses. I suggested getting a student
[9:36] loan, but my parents were against it.
[9:38] Even when I proposed borrowing money from relatives and
[9:41] repaying it later, they found it offensive that I would even
[9:43] suggest such a thing. They informed me that borrowing
[9:46] money was against their morals, calling it pathetic.
[9:49] I recall having a lot of disagreements with them on this
[9:52] topic in particular. Finally, I was able to persuade
[9:55] my grandparents to assist me in obtaining a student loan, which
[9:58] allowed me to complete my college education.
[10:00] I was really angry with my parents at the time because of
[10:03] their stance, but I finally forgiven them.
[10:05] However, this does not imply that I forgot about it totally.
[10:09] My sister never experienced this difficulty because she never
[10:12] attended college. She didn't think she needed to
[10:14] worry with it because she knew she'd either inherit Dad's
[10:16] business or marry. That is exactly what she is
[10:19] doing right now, so congratulations to her for
[10:22] adhering to her plan. The basic line is that I recall
[10:25] what my parents said about borrowing money.
[10:27] When I recommended taking out a loan to pay my college tuition,
[10:30] they flatly refused, citing their morals.
[10:33] Borrowing money according to those ideas should still be
[10:36] avoided. When it came to my education
[10:39] funding, they just worried about their principles.
[10:41] However, now that Catherine wishes to marry and have a
[10:44] lavish wedding, they appear to have conveniently forgotten all
[10:47] of it. I thought that was quite
[10:49] hypocritical of them and I wasn't going to let it slip.
[10:52] They created a lot of inconvenience for me back then,
[10:55] and I honestly don't believe my sister's wedding is more
[10:57] important than my college education.
[10:59] If I hadn't completed my degree and received the grades I got, I
[11:02] wouldn't have the job I do now or be able to aid them
[11:05] financially. When they asked me for
[11:07] assistance, I reminded them of what they had told me about
[11:09] loans and borrowing money, how it violated their beliefs, and
[11:13] all of the other explanations they had given back then.
[11:16] They appeared surprised, since I don't think they expected me to
[11:18] remember anything after so many years, but I did, and I recalled
[11:22] everything quite well. After I finished speaking, they
[11:25] had nothing to say and returned home peacefully.
[11:27] I thought that was the end of it, but then a slew of relatives
[11:30] started calling me, informing me that the way I handled my
[11:33] parents was incredibly humiliating for them, and they
[11:35] were furious about it. My parents had evidently been
[11:38] telling everyone that I had changed after receiving so much
[11:41] money, and we're now hanging it over their heads, attempting to
[11:44] bring them down. Despite everything they had done
[11:46] for me, I didn't think this accurately represented what I'd
[11:49] done. I had merely fought against what
[11:51] I considered unfair, and that was it.
[11:53] As a result, I stopped speaking to my parents.
[11:56] If they honestly disagreed with what I said, they should have
[11:59] approached me directly rather than going behind my back and
[12:01] complaining to the rest of the family.
[12:03] I also chose not to talk with the rest of the family, since if
[12:06] they didn't understand where I was coming from, I had nothing
[12:09] else to say to them. I wasn't invited to my sister's
[12:12] wedding, so I didn't feel obligated to contribute in any
[12:15] way at all. I haven't spoken to my parents
[12:17] or anyone else in the family in the past few days.
[12:20] I've been fairly pleased about it because I don't believe I did
[12:22] anything wrong. However, two days ago my parents
[12:26] paid me another visit, and this time they were really upset.
[12:29] They informed me that they had been denied entry to my sister's
[12:32] wedding, presumably due to my presence.
[12:34] I don't see how I could have caused such an incident,
[12:36] especially because I haven't communicated with Catherine in
[12:39] any way. According to my parents, when
[12:42] they told Catherine they couldn't afford the wedding and
[12:44] wanted her and her in laws to help cover the expenditures of
[12:46] things they couldn't afford, she went insane.
[12:49] Catherine began pressuring my parents to arrange the money in
[12:52] some way because at this point going to her in laws and asking
[12:55] for financial assistance would make her family appear very
[12:57] awful, which she did not want. She was somewhat correct in that
[13:01] if my parents were unsure whether they could cover the
[13:03] total cost of what they had promised, they should not have
[13:05] committed to it in the first place.
[13:07] She's generally spoiled and entitled, but I don't think she
[13:10] was wrong when she said this. Personally, I believe she and
[13:13] her fiance should have paid the entire expense themselves
[13:16] because his family is wealthy enough to do so.
[13:18] However, if my parents had committed to something, they
[13:21] should follow through, and Catherine was correct in saying
[13:24] that they made her seem awful in front of her in laws, so I
[13:27] believe she had every right to stress out.
[13:29] I told my parents, emphasizing that I was not involved.
[13:33] I did not urge them to commit to something like this.
[13:35] They brought it on themselves and had only themselves to
[13:38] blame. At this point, I believe my
[13:40] sister's decision to cancel their invitation to the wedding
[13:43] was an overreaction, but then again, what did they expect of
[13:46] Catherine? She has always been this way and
[13:48] they, not I, are to blame. However, my parents were not
[13:52] prepared to hear any of this. They said that if I had just
[13:55] helped them out and lent them some money instead of being
[13:57] petty and harboring old grudges, they would not be in this
[14:00] situation right now. I thought it was really unfair
[14:03] of them to blame me, so I told them to go, which they did, but
[14:07] they persisted and now the entire family has turned against
[14:10] me, accusing me of being self-centered and cold hearted.
[14:13] Personally, I do not believe I have done anything wrong, but
[14:17] anyhow, AITA for refusing to pay for my sister's wedding because
[14:20] my parents cannot afford it? Update 1 Hello, So I have
[14:24] decided to avoid touch with my complete family aside from my
[14:28] grandparents. Both my father's and mother's
[14:30] sides of the family are currently unified against me,
[14:32] which is insane. Obviously my mother's parents
[14:36] are no longer alive, but my father's folks support me.
[14:39] So far, they've been trying to keep the peace in the family,
[14:42] but even they're tired of the drama.
[14:44] Everyone in the family has had disagreements in the past, but I
[14:47] believe their hatred for me has brought them together.
[14:50] At the very least, I am delighted I was able to help the
[14:53] family, but I've blocked them all and I don't want any trouble
[14:56] right now. Someone in the comments remarked
[14:58] that the true reason they all seem to despise me so much, why
[15:01] they need a reason to oppose me, is probably because they are
[15:04] jealous. That, I believe, is a legitimate
[15:07] point. I don't want to brag, but I'm
[15:09] doing much better than the majority of my family members
[15:12] and I don't think they can take it.
[15:14] Growing up, I never really took anyone's counsel.
[15:17] Most of them advised me to pursue a business degree and
[15:19] take over my father's store because that's where the future
[15:22] is rather than spending so much time on the Internet.
[15:25] And guess what? That is how I make a living now.
[15:28] Not only am I far more accomplished than most of my
[15:31] cousins, but their parents appear to resent me.
[15:33] It just doesn't make sense to me because I believe families
[15:36] should celebrate and share each other's triumphs, but this has
[15:39] never been the case. It makes me sad at times, but I
[15:42] can't help it. Some folks are exactly like
[15:45] this. I'll bet my folks are already
[15:47] loving the fact that everyone is against me right now.
[15:50] They claim it was my fault that they were not invited to my
[15:52] sister's wedding. We haven't spoken since they
[15:55] last stopped by to accuse me of damaging their relationship with
[15:57] my sister, which I still don't understand.
[16:00] However, my grandparents have informed me that they are not
[16:03] speaking with my parents either. Since my grandparents are on my
[16:06] side, it demonstrates how ungrateful my parents are.
[16:09] My grandparents had helped them numerous times in the past, but
[16:12] they don't seem to remember any of it.
[16:14] That makes me glad because I didn't help them when they came
[16:17] to me. I believe they would have
[16:18] conveniently forgotten about it in the future.
[16:21] They take everything for granted and it's past time someone teach
[16:24] them a lesson, even if it had to be someone as terrible as
[16:27] Catherine. Update 2 Hi, a truly interesting
[16:32] thing happened yesterday. I couldn't share it here earlier
[16:35] since I was so busy, but Catherine came to see me after I
[16:38] returned home from work. She arrived at my place about an
[16:41] hour later, which shocked me because as I recall, we had not
[16:44] communicated in the previous five years.
[16:47] We do not have a nice relationship.
[16:49] I was very convinced she was here to talk about her wedding
[16:51] with me since now that our parents aren't even invited, I
[16:54] assume she needed money. However, she was wise enough not
[16:58] to begin with that. Instead, she informed me that
[17:00] she came here to apologize for what she had done in the past.
[17:04] She stated that she was about to begin a new chapter in her life.
[17:07] She was getting married and that she wanted to formally invite me
[17:10] before anybody else as a way to make up for her previous
[17:12] behavior. She said she regretted being a
[17:15] brat, but it wasn't totally her fault because our parents never
[17:18] reprimanded her conduct. As a result, she grew up
[17:21] believing that her behaviors were socially acceptable.
[17:24] Now that she is older, she understands she was a terrible
[17:26] person and is attempting to make up to everyone she has
[17:29] mistreated in the past. She believed there was no better
[17:32] place to begin than with me because as her brother, I had to
[17:35] put up with her the most. I let her speak and after she
[17:38] concluded her brief statement, I told her I was fine with it and
[17:41] relieved she had finally come to her senses and apologized.
[17:44] However, I knew there was more to come and waited patiently.
[17:48] Of course, she finally began to tell me that she knew our
[17:50] parents had been cruel to me as well.
[17:53] She claimed she had heard from other relatives that our parents
[17:55] had been calling me selfish, callous, and petty because I
[17:58] refused to contribute to her wedding.
[18:00] She tried to trick me by telling me that I was entirely correct
[18:03] in my viewpoint because at the end of the day, our parents had
[18:06] never assisted me after the age of 18.
[18:09] She said that they were the ones who had pledged to assist her
[18:11] pay for the wedding. As a result, it wasn't my
[18:14] obligation to bail them out when they got into trouble,
[18:17] especially because we didn't have a nice relationship in the
[18:19] beginning. I could sense she was working up
[18:21] to something, so I waited for her to arrive.
[18:24] After I hadn't said anything for a while, she suddenly
[18:27] acknowledged that now that our parents weren't invited, they
[18:30] had withdrawn the money they had promised her for so long.
[18:33] She began yelling about how unjust that was, pointing out
[18:36] that they were the ones who had agreed to cover at least some of
[18:38] the expenses. She was too embarrassed to tell
[18:41] her fiance that following her argument with our parents, they
[18:44] would no longer be providing anything.
[18:46] This meant that his parents would have to pay for
[18:48] everything. Finally, she explained why she
[18:51] came to meet me. She begged if I would be willing
[18:53] to assist her only once, pledging that she would be
[18:56] grateful to me for the rest of her days.
[18:58] She even offered to sign a contract or do whatever it took
[19:01] to convince me that she would return the money, ideally by the
[19:04] end of the year. She simply wanted my assistance
[19:07] right now to spare herself the shame of having to inform her
[19:09] fiance of the predicament. I found it fascinating that she
[19:12] was willing to commit to repay the money and even go through
[19:15] the process to make it official. However, I informed her that I
[19:18] needed time to think about it. Ultimately, despite her apology,
[19:22] we were still not on good terms and our friendship was strained.
[19:26] I assumed she'd understand, but she turned out to be quite
[19:28] shameless. She said I was being too pricey
[19:31] and that she wasn't asking for as much as her sister.
[19:34] That was generous of her, given that we hadn't had a connection
[19:37] in almost five years, let alone one approximating siblings.
[19:41] I had realized from the start that she was only coming to ask
[19:43] for money. Her apology was not sincere.
[19:46] I informed her that she was exactly like our parents, greedy
[19:49] and constantly looking out for herself.
[19:51] Of course, this infuriated her. She began shrieking at me, but I
[19:56] am not my parents and I had no reason to tolerate her behavior.
[19:59] I quickly told her to leave my house because I would not
[20:01] tolerate it. She originally refused to leave,
[20:04] but I grabbed her arm and forced her to.
[20:07] She kept shrieking that she was going to call the cops on me for
[20:09] attacking her, but I didn't mind.
[20:12] Eventually, she departed. I was really upset about it for
[20:15] a long, but now it just seems like a ridiculously amusing
[20:18] thing and I'm not going to let it worry me.
[20:20] Update 3. It's been a few weeks since my
[20:23] last update. I assumed that because my sister
[20:26] and I were still bickering, the invitation she issued to me had
[20:28] been canceled. But today I was pleasantly
[20:31] delighted to receive an invitation to her wedding.
[20:34] I didn't know how to make sense of it and felt strange about the
[20:36] whole affair, so I contacted her.
[20:39] She didn't react right away, but after a few hours she called me
[20:42] back. When I thanked her for inviting
[20:44] me over the phone, She was really rude.
[20:47] I decided to ask her what was going on because I was
[20:49] perplexed. She informed me she meant her
[20:51] apologies that day and was sincerely striving to be a
[20:54] better person now. She had also arranged for the
[20:56] money alone, so she no longer required anyone's assistance.
[21:00] She wanted me to know that she wasn't just acting to get on my
[21:02] good side because I was wealthy, and she insisted on meaning what
[21:05] she said. She also added that our parents
[21:08] had made her understand how much of A brat she had been in the
[21:10] past. She was doing everything she
[21:12] could to avoid becoming one of them.
[21:15] At this time, I decided to ask her if she wanted to invite them
[21:18] to the wedding also. She assured me that contrary to
[21:21] what they were saying, she had never uninvited anyone.
[21:24] She was only upset with them because they had put her in a
[21:26] tough situation. Apparently, my parents knew what
[21:30] my sister wanted for her wedding.
[21:32] She had informed them from the start that her ideas were
[21:34] somewhat ambitious and she did not believe they would have
[21:36] enough money to cover everything.
[21:38] Despite this, they were overconfident about it.
[21:41] It would be awkward for her to reveal to her in laws that her
[21:44] parents were only talking and couldn't afford what they had
[21:46] promised. The fact that they hadn't even
[21:48] thought things through and were so determined to compete with
[21:51] her in laws disturbed her. Because she had been ranting at
[21:53] them, they decided she didn't want them at her wedding anymore
[21:56] and effectively uninvited themselves.
[21:59] They arrived at that conclusion on their own, despite the fact
[22:02] that she had not stated or hinted anything.
[22:04] Instead of addressing her and discussing it with her, they
[22:06] chose to tell everyone else their version of the tale.
[22:09] I have to acknowledge that it is quite problematic for them to go
[22:12] about telling people that their children are bad while refusing
[22:15] to openly address the issue with us when they had the
[22:17] opportunity. Of course, after they've said
[22:20] such terrible things about us to everyone else, we're not going
[22:23] to want to work things out with them.
[22:24] Even so, they'll find a reason to blame us.
[22:27] They are continuously trying to play the victim.
[22:30] I'm delighted my sister is finally starting to see this.
[22:33] Catherine informed me that the rest of the family has not
[22:35] alienated her in the same manner that they did with me.
[22:39] However, she is still pondering whether to invite them to the
[22:41] wedding. Given that most of them appear
[22:43] to be solidly on our parents side.
[22:45] They've been less harsh with her, attempting to explain why
[22:48] my parents were right rather than directly blaming her.
[22:51] I believe this has something to do with the fact that my parents
[22:54] are too proud to apologize, but not too proud to rely on their
[22:57] children in the future because my grandparents will no longer
[23:00] be able to assist them. They are most likely hoping to
[23:03] keep Catherine on their side by leaving that door open.
[23:06] That's just my theory, though. Whatever the case, it's evident
[23:10] they're treating Catherine differently than they did me.
[23:12] It's sad, but it's not unusual for me.
[23:15] At the very least, Catherine is beginning to see the reality.
[23:19] If she is truly trying to be a better person, I believe I am
[23:22] willing to give her a chance. After we spoke on the phone, she
[23:25] apologized for throwing a fit the other day and stated that
[23:28] she would be delighted to have me at her wedding.
[23:30] She believed that someone from the family should be present.
[23:33] I haven't decided whether I'll attend, but I'll wait a few days
[23:36] before responding. It's difficult to mend a
[23:39] connection that hasn't existed in five years, but I don't want
[23:42] to be the type of person who harbors grudges indefinitely.
[23:45] That type of thinking would only make me unhappy.
[23:48] I even discussed it with my grandparents, who said that if I
[23:51] decide to go, they will come as well.
[23:53] Previously, they weren't sure if they wanted to go, but given the
[23:56] circumstances, they believe that supporting Catherine is the
[23:59] proper thing to do. UPDATE 4I attended Catherine's
[24:03] wedding yesterday and let her down the aisle.
[24:05] Unfortunately, our parents did not apologize to her or reach
[24:08] out before the wedding, so they were not invited.
[24:11] She was really disturbed about this for several days before the
[24:14] wedding. She eventually reached out to me
[24:16] and asked if I would be willing to walk her down the aisle.
[24:19] She expressed a strong need for emotional support from others.
[24:22] I immediately agreed. Nobody deserves to be treated
[24:25] this way, especially by their own parents, for something so
[24:28] trivial. I thought it would be easy for
[24:30] my parents to emotionally cut me off because my sister had always
[24:33] been the golden child. But seeing this side of them,
[24:36] realizing they were too proud and egotistical to repair their
[24:39] relationship with the only child they cared about, was stunning.
[24:43] In some ways, they contributed to my sister's previous bad
[24:46] behavior. They never bothered to address
[24:48] her conduct, believing it was preferable to leave her be.
[24:51] It was their obligation as parents to guide her, but they
[24:54] did not care. While I don't believe it was
[24:56] totally their fault, they could have done something to prevent
[24:58] it and didn't. Catherine asked me to walk her
[25:01] down the aisle, and I consented. She appeared really grateful,
[25:05] especially given that the few family members she had invited
[25:07] had declined. Everyone appears to want to
[25:10] support my parents and participate in the drama.
[25:13] I was able to persuade my grandparents to go, though.
[25:16] Catherine apologized to everyone in attendance before the
[25:19] ceremony. Her fiance also apologized to me
[25:22] for his behavior several years ago.
[25:24] Catherine informed me that she had been open with her fiance
[25:26] about the issue with our parents.
[25:28] He told her not to worry about the money and that he would take
[25:31] care of it. That's how they figured it out.
[25:33] However, she almost broke down before the wedding, upset that
[25:37] our parents would not be present.
[25:39] Her fiance, our grandparents, and I persuaded her not to let
[25:42] them spoil her wonderful day. I wouldn't say everything is
[25:45] ideal right now, but we'll work on our relationship and attempt
[25:49] to improve things. I truly believe Catherine has
[25:51] evolved as a person. When I saw her yesterday, it
[25:55] felt like she was being completely honest about her
[25:57] desire to start anew. Some people may disagree with my
[26:00] decision to forgive her, but I believe I am doing the right
[26:02] thing.
