## Transcript

[0:02] a listener production.
[0:05] I'm Bec Judd.
[0:06] And I'm Jess Roberts.
[0:07] And we're done with the smoke and mirrors.
[0:09] Fainish shares honest stories about what it takes to look amazing because we did not wake up like this.
[0:15] And you should know the stuff that we chat about on this podcast is based on our personal experiences.
[0:21] We're sharing it for your entertainment.
[0:23] It's definitely not medical advice.
[0:26] And we'll always be clear with you when something is a paid endorsement.
[0:29] Please always chat with your qualified healthcare team before making any decisions about your health.
[0:49] Hey guys, welcome to Vanish.
[0:51] It's Bec Judd.
[0:52] And Jess Roberts.
[0:53] Oh, we have a good one today.
[0:54] Oh, we do.
[0:55] Oh my God, we've never done this before.
[0:57] I know.
[0:58] It's like our first treatment, I guess, in studio.
[1:01] It's like a live treatment in studio that we record and then share with our audience.
[1:07] And it's really interesting because we are doing this because you guys asked for it.
[1:13] So today...
[1:14] Jess and I are getting Keratin Bond hair extensions with Kirby Largo, who is one of the most experienced in the Keratin Bond area.
[1:25] She's a celebrity hairstylist and Pellow by Largo's master senior stylist, Olivia.
[1:31] Welcome to Vanish, Kirby Largo.
[1:34] Thank you for having me.
[1:35] I'm very excited to be here and doing both your hair makeovers.
[1:38] I'm excited for you guys to have this hair.
[1:41] I'm so excited.
[1:42] Tell us a little bit about your qualifications.
[1:45] Yeah, of course.
[1:46] I mean, I've been hairdressing for 24 years in total.
[1:49] So, and I have been obsessed with extensions in the past, I would say, five years.
[1:54] Before that, I was quite nervous around extensions because my whole career,
[1:59] What I'm kind of known for is creating luxury healthy hair.
[2:03] And I was kind of turned off a little bit because I didn't want anything that would damage the hair.
[2:08] And then I kind of dived deep into Great Lengths and found that there was actually an answer and an offering that I could give to my clients that could enhance their hair and look after the health of their hair.
[2:19] And then I just became obsessed and started like...
[2:22] you know, developing my own methods and yeah.
[2:24] It's so good.
[2:25] And the reason we've kind of led to this day is because we've had some really popular celebrity teller episodes with Erin Holland and DJ Havana Brown.
[2:35] And the first thing that Jess and I say to them when they walk in is, oh my God, tell us about your hair.
[2:40] And they all have keratin bond hair extensions.
[2:43] And the other thing we call it is K-tips.
[2:45] K-tips, yeah.
[2:45] So I know that's what we called it on those episodes.
[2:48] Yes.
[2:48] So if you hear it and you're thinking, what are keratin bonds and what are micro bonds and what are K-tips?
[2:53] They're kind of like all the same thing, right?
[2:55] Yeah.
[2:56] I think that you'd want to stick with a brand that can actually clearly say keratin bonds.
[3:01] Yeah.
[3:01] I feel like there may be some gray areas around marketing with saying K-tip.
[3:05] So just be careful around that too.
[3:06] Okay.
[3:06] So keratin bonds.
[3:07] Yeah.
[3:08] So Jess, someone actually stopped you in the street after listening to DJ Havana Brown's episode about her keratin bonds.
[3:15] Yes, exactly.
[3:16] Yes.
[3:16] I was walking down the street and I literally had someone tap me on the back going, oh,
[3:18] I've just listened to your podcast with DJ Hervana Brown.
[3:22] You know, what are these keratin, you know, like what are they?
[3:24] And I'm like, oh, we're just about to have the treatment done.
[3:28] And she's like, where do you get it done?
[3:29] I'm like, I don't know.
[3:30] So today's the day that we'll find out all the information.
[3:33] All the things.
[3:34] All the things and the pros of it and everything.
[3:37] The cost of it, which is what I'm really excited to talk about.
[3:39] Yeah, I think it's one of those things that not everyone's getting done.
[3:44] You see different trends and techniques with hair.
[3:47] And I feel like when extensions were first done, especially when I moved to Melbourne from Perth in 2008 or end of 2007,
[3:55] In Perth, no one had hair extensions.
[3:58] I come to Melbourne.
[3:58] I'm at the Carlton Football Club.
[4:00] Every single wag there had clip-ins.
[4:03] And they're all playing with them one night.
[4:04] I had them over for drinks.
[4:05] I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
[4:06] What is this hair?
[4:08] And then there'd be a place on Chapel Street in Melbourne where you would go and you'd choose your hair color and they'd custom make them with the clips to put them in.
[4:15] And that was kind of like the extension trend back then.
[4:17] Remember when everyone would have all the different… Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[4:19] And then it was tapes and then it was sewn in wefts.
[4:21] And I feel like keratin bonds is like, this is whatever I'm starting to talk about.
[4:24] Can I just say that it's been around forever, but you don't know about it because it's the one extension that you can't tell people have.
[4:32] Yeah.
[4:33] And so it's like when someone's like, oh, I don't like Botox or filler.
[4:36] And it's like, yeah, but the people that you notice have it, have had it done more obviously.
[4:40] Yeah.
[4:40] And it's the same thing with like wefts and tapes.
[4:43] Generally, they can be a little bit heavier.
[4:45] Yeah.
[4:45] Where keratin bonds, you could sneak in a volume set and only have like 25 to 50 bonds in someone's hair and no one would ever know they had the bonds in.
[4:52] Yeah, right.
[4:53] And I think it's like, you know, for so long, everyone gate kept what they were doing with their hair.
[4:57] You know, 10 years ago, because I know a friend of mine used to have had them in.
[5:00] And this was like 10 or 15 years ago.
[5:02] And I remember just looking at it and I loved it.
[5:05] And then it kind of wasn't around.
[5:08] I didn't see it again after that.
[5:09] And I feel like everyone was kind of moving to the quick and easier way.
[5:13] But also, looking back now, it's also a more damaging way.
[5:17] Yeah, it came at a cost.
[5:18] Yeah, it came at a cost.
[5:19] And now that everyone's kind of openly talking about their hair, we're like,
[5:23] oh, we are back on this train again.
[5:24] Oh, yeah.
[5:25] And, you know, look at all the celebrities.
[5:26] Like, they are all on stage and they've all got fans.
[5:29] I'm like, Beyonce, I know your hair ain't that long.
[5:31] Yeah.
[5:32] It's flowing in the air.
[5:33] I'm like, you have definitely got these bonds in.
[5:36] 100%.
[5:37] I remember when I got married, this was so long ago.
[5:39] This was like 16 years ago.
[5:41] I had like a metre of hair glued in.
[5:43] Oh, that's right.
[5:44] And you wouldn't tell anyone that you had a meter of hair glued in.
[5:47] No way.
[5:48] It was very taboo.
[5:50] Whereas now we are literally here in the Vaynery's studio today getting our K-Bond extensions applied in real time and we're talking about it in real time.
[5:59] So we thought before we get into it,
[6:01] We've got the pro here, Kirby, and we just wanted to ask all the basic questions just so our audience get a really clear idea of what they are, who they're for, how much they cost, all the things.
[6:12] So let's start with the basics.
[6:14] What exactly are keratin bond hair extensions?
[6:17] Okay.
[6:17] So the attachment itself is pure keratin.
[6:21] And so instead of there being any plastics or anything that could be damaging to the hair, it's actually made from what keratin is in our hair.
[6:28] And so the benefit of that is that when you're wetting your hair, like going for a swim or in the water, it actually is built to expand with the hair.
[6:36] So that helps not putting any pressure on the hair itself.
[6:39] And then when we remove the hair, we use a product that just decinerates the keratin into dust.
[6:46] Oh, wow.
[6:46] So it's like there's no hard foreign pressure on the hair.
[6:51] Okay.
[6:52] And keratin is what hair is made of, right?
[6:55] It's keratin in hair, yes.
[6:56] Yeah.
[6:57] So how do you bond it?
[6:58] So we melt the keratin.
[7:00] We put your hair in the center of it and then we heat it up again and roll it around your hair.
[7:06] Okay.
[7:06] And then it will cool and attach.
[7:08] And set.
[7:09] Okay.
[7:09] Yeah.
[7:10] So what does it feel like?
[7:11] Can you explain it to us?
[7:12] Is it like a little bit of like putty or slime or is it like more rubbery?
[7:16] Yeah, I would say like probably when it's melted, it feels like a clay, I would say.
[7:21] And then when it's hardened, it's not like a bead where it feels really hard.
[7:25] It does have a little bit of softness to it, but it's hard.
[7:28] It's hard.
[7:29] But the benefit of it is that we can cut it into minis or the full keratin bond.
[7:34] And so you get a lot of customization, especially when it comes to color.
[7:38] So when you're dealing with wefts or tapes, you're limited to the amount of colors that you can do in someone's hair.
[7:44] So when you're color matching, it can be difficult if somebody has multiple tones.
[7:48] Where with the keratin bonds, I could pick six different colors.
[7:52] and put them through your hair and blend.
[7:55] Okay.
[7:55] So instead of doing like, so I get blonde foils put through my hair.
[7:59] So instead of having to foil my natural hair, you can add the blonde in the keratin bond and pop it in that way.
[8:05] Which makes your hair so much healthier.
[8:07] So much healthier than calorie.
[8:09] So is that what you're going to do for me today?
[8:10] Yeah.
[8:12] This is so exciting.
[8:13] Well, the biggest thing I'm going to probably do with you, so you're a little bit more on the difficult side because your hair… Oh, she's so… Fifty shades of colours.
[8:20] Difficult.
[8:21] Well, because your hair goes on a hair journey, like you do end up throwing a little bit more warmth as time goes on, just generally with being a dark natural and being light.
[8:28] Right.
[8:29] it means that I'm going to be creating colors that will help with that color journey.
[8:34] So as your color fades, you're going to have tones within the color of the bonds that will make sure it's seamless still with a blend.
[8:40] Hey, oh, I like it.
[8:42] I love it.
[8:43] It's like such an art.
[8:44] I know.
[8:45] And I'm so happy that when I travel with you, I don't have to see your extensions like all across the room.
[8:49] Oh, it's like dead animals everywhere.
[8:51] Yeah.
[8:52] She actually screamed one night because we got home, we'd had way too many margaritas as per usual when Jess and I traveled with each other and our room's always a pigsty.
[8:59] And I'd taken it out one night, a little bit drunk, and left it on the floor.
[9:02] Oh, no, no, not one, like five.
[9:04] And she woke up the next day and they were all over the room and she was like, ah!
[9:08] She thought like a raccoon, this is in New York, that snuck into our room.
[9:11] I opened up the door because you had gone out and done a shoot and I literally walked into the door and I opened up the door and then I like closed it.
[9:19] I was like, oh, my God, I had to call reception.
[9:21] I was like, because the window was open as well.
[9:23] And I'm like, an animal has come in and has gone through all our luggage and they've all died.
[9:28] And it was just a hair extension.
[9:32] Becky with the good hair extensions.
[9:33] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[9:34] So I'm glad the last few times we've traveled, I haven't had that experience because she then got them.
[9:39] I said to her, I'm like, get the wefts, babe.
[9:41] And then she's like, oh, no.
[9:43] And then I showed her my wefts and then she got them done.
[9:45] And I was like, oh.
[9:46] Finally.
[9:47] No more scares.
[9:48] No scares.
[9:48] And now we're doing something different, which is so cool.
[9:51] I'm so excited.
[9:52] These keratin bonds, when you said you can make them smaller and mini, can you explain, I'm just trying to paint a picture for the audience of how it looks in the hair.
[10:00] Talk to me about the different sizes and how you blend them.
[10:03] Yeah.
[10:03] So I would say a full keratin bond would be the size of like a cotton tip.
[10:10] Like if you went from the head of the cotton tip down and then turning them into a mini is half that size.
[10:15] So it's very, very small.
[10:17] Yeah.
[10:18] The reason that I choose to make them minis a lot of the time is because I'm trying to textually match someone's natural hair.
[10:24] Mm-hmm.
[10:24] And a lot of the time people getting extensions have finer hair.
[10:27] So I like being able to have the hair kind of flick off their natural and feel like the same kind of weight.
[10:34] Yes.
[10:34] And then from a color perspective, I also get to then just shimmer that throughout the hair.
[10:38] Yeah.
[10:39] And so you get more of like an even balance of application as well by being able to spread them through around further.
[10:45] Does it just mean that you have to put so many more in though?
[10:48] Like is it more labor intensive for you?
[10:50] Yeah, but you get pretty quick at it and the bond itself melts faster because it's half the size.
[10:54] True.
[10:55] So you make up a little bit of time in that and it's very satisfying to see them a row of minis.
[11:00] And is the color of the keratin, is it clear or is it what?
[11:04] It's the same color as the hair.
[11:06] Okay.
[11:06] So if you've got a blonde, you've got a blonde tip.
[11:08] If you've got a brown, you've got a brown tip.
[11:10] Okay, that's good to know because I just sort of just assumed that it was like clear or something.
[11:13] But no, okay.
[11:14] And when are they made?
[11:16] So you're coming in today and they're all ready and prepared and good to go.
[11:20] How long does it take?
[11:21] Who does it?
[11:22] This is quite the operation.
[11:24] Yeah.
[11:24] Yeah.
[11:25] So it's probably one of the oldest extension companies around and it's actually donated by a temple in India and sent straight to Rome.
[11:32] Wow.
[11:32] Yeah.
[11:33] And so they have like a very intensive process of getting the hair prepared and that's why the quality is so amazing.
[11:39] I went to the factory last year and it was insane.
[11:42] All hand done.
[11:43] Wow.
[11:44] It's like couture.
[11:45] It's hair couture.
[11:46] Couture extension.
[11:47] We are so ready for our couture journey.
[11:50] I know, right?
[11:52] I was watching a reel recently and there was this girl that over 10 months when she would shed her hair in the shower, she was keeping it.
[11:59] I don't know if you saw it.
[11:59] No.
[12:00] Send me this.
[12:01] And she was sticking it on in the shower on this like tape and she was making her own hair extensions.
[12:07] I know.
[12:07] And I sat there going like…
[12:09] This is intense, but also the color was blonde.
[12:11] So I was like, this is amazing.
[12:12] And it was like virgin hair.
[12:13] And I did sit there going, maybe I should do the same.
[12:16] Do you know what?
[12:17] There's a few other things you need to do to make that happen.
[12:20] You can literally do this with your daughter Scarlett.
[12:23] I know.
[12:23] She has the most unbelievable hair ever.
[12:27] It is so long.
[12:28] She just had a trim, but it's like grown past her butt.
[12:30] Like how she can even grow her hair that long in her short life.
[12:35] It's amazing.
[12:35] You know, when you see those little kids, they're like little toddlers and they've got hair down to their butts.
[12:39] I could never grow my hair that long.
[12:41] Like it would snap off before it got that long.
[12:43] But some people, they just got the gene to do it.
[12:46] And she comes over like...
[12:47] She, like...
[12:48] Her hair's amazing.
[12:49] She could definitely sell their hair for hair extensions and grow it back so quickly.
[12:53] Yeah.
[12:53] Is there a gene for people who grow their hair so quickly?
[12:56] Because Jess's hair is, like, really long.
[12:57] I'm sure there's something going on in a gene pool for that.
[13:00] For sure.
[13:01] I want that gene.
[13:02] My hair.
[13:02] I need a peptide for that.
[13:03] Well, there is a peptide for me, girl.
[13:05] There is a peptide for everything.
[13:06] Which one?
[13:07] Which one?
[13:07] Which one?
[13:07] Oh, copper.
[13:08] I'm sorry, I'll have to get back to it.
[13:09] Oh, yeah, it is a copper.
[13:09] Copper.
[13:10] Copper.
[13:10] Copper.
[13:10] Copper.
[13:10] The copper.
[13:11] Yeah.
[13:12] By the time I was six years old, I had hair to my butts.
[13:15] My daughter's the same.
[13:16] But I do look at it and I'm just like, ooh, and it's really blonde.
[13:19] I did cut it last week with kitchen scissors, which was funny.
[13:24] Terrifying.
[13:24] I took that much length off it.
[13:25] I did think, do I just do the big chop and donate it or sell it?
[13:29] Yeah, it's pretty amazing.
[13:30] Or give it to you to put in my hair?
[13:32] Yeah, exactly.
[13:32] I tip it.
[13:33] So why do you think keratin bond extensions are becoming so popular?
[13:37] Yeah.
[13:38] I think everyone's suffering from finer hair.
[13:41] I feel like with COVID and health and stress and anxiety and not getting the same nutrition that we're used to, there is just like I'm not thinning anyone's hair these days.
[13:50] Like that used to be a thing.
[13:51] Everyone come in and ask for their hair to be thinned out.
[13:53] Everyone's asking for extensions now.
[13:56] And so I think the biggest thing is like finding an extension that fits everyone.
[14:01] And that's keratin bonds.
[14:02] Because you could be putting in 20, you could be putting in 140.
[14:05] And so I think the fact that you can cater it for majority of people out there.
[14:11] And I think the biggest...
[14:13] that I've attracted is people with really fine hair.
[14:16] Yeah.
[14:16] Because you can completely make it disappear in the hair and it's not making you go backwards on a health journey.
[14:22] Yeah.
[14:22] And so I use it a lot of the time to help my clients actually grow their hair and thicken it up and get it healthier.
[14:28] Yeah.
[14:28] While getting the color that they want.
[14:30] Yeah.
[14:31] And you know what I like about it as well?
[14:33] As everyone gets older, they're thinner at the front.
[14:36] And you can't put tapes and you can't put wefts there.
[14:39] You can, but it's horrendous.
[14:40] It's horrendous.
[14:40] You can see it.
[14:41] You can't put your hair up.
[14:43] And I love the fact that you can put this at the front and it's so natural.
[14:46] You can still put your hair up.
[14:47] Yeah.
[14:48] It's really cool.
[14:49] I love how you can achieve your desired color without having to color your own hair.
[14:54] You can do it in the keratin bond extension.
[14:56] To me, that is like an absolute game changer.
[14:59] And especially when you've got, what did you say, difficult, complex hair like mine.
[15:02] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[15:03] It's like a rainbow.
[15:04] It's so cool.
[15:05] It is.
[15:06] Who might not be suited to keratin bond extensions?
[15:09] I mean, I feel like the only people that would be if they were suffering really badly from like a thyroid or like alopecia of some sort where they're going, it's more from an investment perspective.
[15:22] If they're going through a massive, massive hair loss phase, then the bonds won't last as long for them because they're generally going to be shedding and they'll shed with the bonds together.
[15:32] Yeah.
[15:33] And how long do they last?
[15:34] Anywhere between four to six months.
[15:36] Oh, six months.
[15:37] I'm praying for six months.
[15:39] Yeah.
[15:40] So we do hear, and Erin and Havana Brown explain this to us, that they are on the pricier side because obviously like the work that goes into it, like the preparation of the keratin bonds themselves
[15:53] to the application from you guys and there are so many steps.
[15:57] But we do need to use them less, like have them reapplied less.
[16:02] So how does it all kind of work out in the wash?
[16:04] Yeah.
[16:04] So when you're getting tapes or wefts, you have to pay for maintenance and get them re-put in every, say, five to eight weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows.
[16:13] grows where with the keratin bonds, there's no maintenance.
[16:15] So you're every five to six weeks, you're coming back in, you're paying, and then you're also spending your time doing that.
[16:21] So you don't have any maintenance with the keratin bonds, but they are a one-time use.
[16:26] But the difference, I think, is like Great Links itself, they used to be a lot more expensive than everyone else.
[16:31] And now everyone else has gotten a lot more expensive, but their quality hasn't gone up.
[16:35] And so I feel like with Great Lengths, you're getting all of that quality.
[16:38] And it comes down to how the experience in that six months is for you.
[16:44] Is your hair nodding?
[16:45] Is the color fading?
[16:46] Is it going pink and orange?
[16:48] These are things that happen if you're using a cheaper brand.
[16:52] Great Lengths are a Remy.
[16:53] And what that means is that the hair shaft is all in the same direction.
[16:56] Right.
[16:57] And so when they're creating the bonds themselves, they're making sure that if you run your hair down your hair, the hair shafts are all facing down.
[17:04] Okay.
[17:05] Is that what Remy means?
[17:06] Some people won't do that.
[17:07] And so they'll have them in every direction.
[17:09] So you're not getting that – your hair's starting to knot up.
[17:12] And so there's things from a quality perspective that you're getting when you're making that kind of investment with Great Lengths that you wouldn't with other brands.
[17:19] The other thing I was going to ask you, and this is to go with who could be suited to having this.
[17:24] I've actually got quite curly hair when it dries.
[17:27] Do they do a curly version for people with curls and also coarser hair?
[17:33] Yeah.
[17:33] Great question.
[17:34] So when it comes to blonde and curly keratin bonds, there is still a gap where they haven't been able to quite figure that out because it is quite an intensive treatment to have it be curly and then be able to have a blonde.
[17:48] Yeah.
[17:49] So the quality of the hair just doesn't feel exactly the same.
[17:52] So it's definitely not where it could be for there.
[17:55] Yeah.
[17:56] Brown hair with curls?
[17:57] I think there's a few that they've played with that they can, yeah.
[18:00] But there's a wavy range.
[18:01] Yeah.
[18:02] So there's wavy.
[18:03] But when it comes to our curly, coily girls, unfortunately, there's just not what there could be in that area yet.
[18:09] Yeah.
[18:10] Yeah.
[18:10] But they would struggle for all types of extensions.
[18:13] Exactly.
[18:13] Yeah.
[18:14] Yeah.
[18:14] Yeah.
[18:15] Okay.
[18:16] So how much are we talking?
[18:17] Okay.
[18:17] What's my cost?
[18:18] Yeah.
[18:18] Yeah.
[18:18] That's what everyone wants to know.
[18:20] Get to the hard questions, girls.
[18:22] I want to know how much I'm up for.
[18:23] The good thing is that you, if you do have a smaller budget, you could get them for thickness and start at the lower end of the scale where you'd be around the $500, $600, $700 mark.
[18:36] And that will give you fullness, thickness, volume.
[18:38] Okay.
[18:38] And we're doing this two or three times a year.
[18:40] Yes.
[18:41] So that's a couple of grand a year.
[18:43] Yeah, but your hair blow dries will last longer.
[18:46] Your volume will be massive.
[18:48] Everyone will start asking, what have you done to your hair?
[18:50] Your hair looks amazing.
[18:52] And the volume set is in some ways one of the most satisfying sets I get because it's like they are gaslit nearly into thinking that's their hair after that point.
[18:59] point like you do not know what's even in there but it makes such a difference so that's a great entry point which i think is excellent that that's an offering and how many keratin bonds is that usually so i would say around like the 40 mark and then we can turn them into 80 by making the minis
[19:15] Yeah.
[19:16] Oh, okay.
[19:17] Yeah.
[19:17] All right.
[19:18] So same amount of hair, but further distance in the head.
[19:20] How much are you doing on Jess and I today?
[19:22] That is to be discovered.
[19:24] How much hair did I bring?
[19:26] Because I virtually color matched you a lot.
[19:29] I don't know how much I'm putting in yet.
[19:31] And if you don't, sorry, Jess, if you do the full shebang where you want the thickness and you want the length.
[19:36] length and you want like Havana brown hair and you want Aaron Holland hair because they got a lot of hair.
[19:41] You're talking thousands.
[19:42] What are we looking at?
[19:43] Yeah.
[19:43] So you're looking up into like the 2000, 3000 mark, but this is dependent on who you're picking to do it.
[19:48] And so my pricing is different to one of my senior stylists doing it and even in my salon.
[19:53] Then you'll get other salons that would be maybe cheaper than that as well.
[19:56] Okay.
[19:57] But yeah, the thing is we have to match you textually.
[20:00] So if you've got a bob and you have thick hair, you're going to need double
[20:06] thickness and doesn't have a strong blunt edge to their haircut.
[20:10] Yeah.
[20:10] So we're needing to match the volume in your hair.
[20:13] Okay.
[20:13] Yeah.
[20:14] So we're looking at if it was a few that, and you needed it two or three times a year.
[20:17] So anywhere, annually, anywhere from like two grand to like nine.
[20:23] And that's for the extension and for the service as well.
[20:26] Yes.
[20:27] Yeah.
[20:27] Yeah.
[20:27] Yeah.
[20:28] Okay.
[20:28] Yeah.
[20:28] So that's your full in-salon service.
[20:31] And then I would probably recommend for them to get a haircut halfway through.
[20:34] Yeah.
[20:34] Okay.
[20:35] Yeah.
[20:35] And that just kind of gives it an extra little bounce.
[20:37] Yeah.
[20:38] Okay.
[20:39] Now let's get into some of the questions you sent through because there were so many.
[20:43] Jenny has this question.
[20:45] Hi, girls.
[20:46] I have a friend who's older, think like 70 plus, who has very thin, weak hair.
[20:52] Could she get keratin bond extensions?
[20:55] So there's areas of the hair that is typically more weak than others, and that's around the hairline, the part line.
[21:01] And so if she was wanting to thicken up her hair, then I could work right in the belly of the hair around the occipital bone and add in hair and not go in front of the ears and just do one little row of minis would be appropriate for her hair texture and health at that stage.
[21:18] Okay.
[21:19] Okay.
[21:20] Hi, this is Bernadette.
[21:21] I'd like to know, do keratin bonds slip out as they're going out?
[21:25] And do they look stringy as well?
[21:27] Thank you.
[21:28] Okay.
[21:29] So this can be if you're using the wrong products.
[21:32] So if you were to be using a really strong oil, like a lot of people with finer hair, they've kind of gotten onto the bandwagon of like rose oil hair for the scalp and things like that.
[21:42] Don't combine that with getting keratin bonds.
[21:45] And the application itself definitely comes into this too.
[21:48] So they shouldn't be slipping down the hair.
[21:50] What about using like a high-protein shampoo and conditioner?
[21:54] Because I know that used to take the glue, the tapings that used to slip out.
[21:57] I just wouldn't be using a high-protein with extensions in general.
[22:01] It's just too hard and strong.
[22:03] They love moisture.
[22:05] So I'd be kind of sticking away from that anyway.
[22:08] Is there special shampoo and conditioner that you must use after having keratin bronze applied?
[22:12] Yes, absolutely.
[22:13] Okay, cool.
[22:14] So you can't just go to the supermarket or the chemist and grab anything?
[22:17] And especially investing that much.
[22:19] You do not want to be like then just being... Yeah, okay.
[22:23] But whoever's installing your Great Links, they will be recommending your product regime for home and that you'll also be taking home a extension hairbrush.
[22:32] This is really important as well.
[22:33] The extensions want to be brushed right from the root down to the ends.
[22:36] Like do not get scared to get into that root and really like brushing it so it's got a surface and root bristles on it.
[22:42] And so we'll just do a surface brush and then a deeper brush.
[22:45] Oh, okay.
[22:46] Oh, my God.
[22:46] I just can't wait to wash my hair and be able to do this, get my nails and actually go into my scalp because you can't do it with the west.
[22:54] Oh, my God.
[22:55] Well, that's actually the other big difference is that you get 360 movement on the bonds.
[23:00] So a weft can sway left and right and it's difficult to flip.
[23:03] This can go.
[23:05] And tapes are similar where keratins can go anywhere.
[23:07] Oh, my God.
[23:08] Stop.
[23:09] So, Kirby, how natural do they actually look?
[23:12] Do they ever look stringy at the ends?
[23:14] Can you pick them out?
[23:15] Because, you know, sometimes you can tell tapes or you can tell wefts because they don't blend so much.
[23:20] Yeah.
[23:21] So I think when they're not cut correctly, that's when you've maybe seen a keratin bond look a little bit stringy, but that's because they're double drawn.
[23:29] So the thickness from the root to the end is the same thickness where our natural hair it thins as it gets to the ends.
[23:35] And so that is in there on purpose to be able to cut and blend into your natural hair.
[23:41] And so like anything, if it's done incorrectly, that's when you're done.
[23:44] then it's not going to look as good as if it's done how it's meant to do.
[23:48] So I actually slice down all of my keratin bonds and I call it like activating the bond where I'm like getting rid of the weight through the end of it and using that to blend.
[23:58] But you've got such a massive color selection and the color of every keratin color option that's out there actually has about eight colors in it.
[24:06] Oh, wow.
[24:07] And so it's getting all of those different reflex.
[24:09] So instead of being a blonde or a brown, it's got like eight different colors to create that exact color.
[24:14] And so the sun hitting it, it's going to blend so much more because it is such a more natural product.
[24:19] One of the big benefits for me that Erin Holland was talking to us about was for her job, she has to have her hair up a lot and she could only have keratin bonds because wefts and tapes you could always see.
[24:32] And that really piqued my interest because I...
[24:36] want to have my hair up or even when I play sport, I have my pony up and you can see the weft.
[24:40] And I get trolled about it by young kids.
[24:43] I can see your extensions.
[24:44] So when she said, no, I can have my hair in any style and you can hide the keratin bonds.
[24:51] And it made me think, how do you apply them so you don't see the tips?
[24:56] So I have like a no-go zone that I will go around your hairline and I'll be folding your hair over my comb and make sure if I do that, I can't see the comb at all.
[25:05] And I do that around every border of your hair, your part line, your hairline, your nape, and make sure we've got full coverage of your natural hair going over the bond.
[25:13] Okay.
[25:13] So if we did a slip back pony, you're never going to see them.
[25:16] So you don't go too close to the edges, I guess.
[25:19] Yeah, but you wouldn't want to go crazy close anyway because it's the hormonal hair around the face.
[25:23] So we can still slip it into that fringe area that we're talking about, but we would still be two fingers behind.
[25:28] Yeah.
[25:29] Okay.
[25:31] When you have them, what happens if you get knits?
[25:34] Because when you have a weft…
[25:37] You get it taken out and then you do the whole strip with your hair and you get all of it.
[25:41] But with this, it's like you've got – you're paying a lot of money.
[25:43] Yeah.
[25:44] And then it's a lot of time when you get knits like – Shave your head.
[25:49] Yeah.
[25:49] That's what I did to my twins.
[25:50] Shave.
[25:50] Shave your head.
[25:51] Yeah.
[25:52] So what do you do with that?
[25:53] So I actually had a – Now I'm like, my head.
[25:55] I know.
[25:55] I can't just crush my head.
[25:57] I can't just crush my head.
[25:58] I actually had this happen to a client and she ended up figuring this out for me.
[26:03] So she did an application of a knit treatment and her bonds all stayed in.
[26:08] But then she got knits again, the second application.
[26:10] Because those chemist treatments never bloody work.
[26:12] And I don't know if this is a little bit naughty and I shouldn't be recommending it though.
[26:16] But this is a prescription drug that you can get.
[26:18] I know the one.
[26:19] That you don't have to use any products on your hair.
[26:22] So don't come for me.
[26:26] So talk to us about exercising, swimming, saunering.
[26:30] I have an infrared sauna at home and I sauna like five times a week.
[26:34] I tuck my hair up and I put it with a little wool cap.
[26:37] Are they okay?
[26:38] Yeah, the heat's going to be fine.
[26:40] It's more the steam on the extensions.
[26:42] So you always, whether you've got extensions or not, you should always be wrapping your hair.
[26:46] Yeah.
[26:47] Okay.
[26:47] I do hot Pilates.
[26:49] Yeah, so do I. Oh, yeah.
[26:49] So what do we do with the hot toilet?
[26:51] I mean, we can't turn up with a towel wrapped in hot Pilates.
[26:53] Oh, you do?
[26:53] No, I said we can't.
[26:54] Oh, we can't.
[26:55] I was like, there's a limit.
[26:56] Okay.
[26:57] So what do you do?
[26:58] What do you recommend?
[26:59] Like it's not going to, the room doesn't get that hot.
[27:01] Yeah.
[27:02] You know, it's the same equivalent as having like a steam shower, you know.
[27:05] Okay.
[27:05] Yeah.
[27:05] Okay.
[27:05] Okay.
[27:06] Okay, so like life as per normal with them.
[27:08] Yes.
[27:10] Oh, love it.
[27:11] So hang on.
[27:12] So just coming back with the knits, can they have the shampoo and do the treatment that they do and comb it out?
[27:17] Do you recommend just doing a bit more treatments with them?
[27:20] I would be backing it with as much like hair treatment as you can after the fact.
[27:24] And it won't ruin the bond.
[27:26] The bond itself, yeah, it's just more some of the products within it are oil-based.
[27:31] Yeah.
[27:31] So trying to find a non-oil-based.
[27:32] Yeah, so trying to find a non-oil-based.
[27:34] Chat GPT would be your best friend in this case.
[27:36] Yeah.
[27:37] It's kind of like a random, you know, trying to find one that's not oil-based.
[27:41] Yeah.
[27:41] Okay, cool.
[27:42] There's a knit clinic that I ended up having to take my boys' tubes.
[27:46] Do you know what they'd do?
[27:46] They'd wrap your head up.
[27:48] Yeah.
[27:48] So they'd put the medication on.
[27:50] They'd wrap your head up and then they'd like steam it out, like heat treat it out because the lice doesn't survive the heat shock treatment and then they'd brush them out and then they'd send you home with another application.
[28:02] And it was the only thing that worked, right?
[28:04] And I actually put it on the school website
[28:07] I had the parents WhatsApp.
[28:07] I'm like, can everyone just, because the nits just kept going through and through and through.
[28:11] I'm like, just go to this place because the stuff at the bloody campus is not where.
[28:16] Stop giving my kids nits.
[28:17] Her kids always had nits.
[28:18] And I'm sitting there laughing going, she's like, I found an egg.
[28:21] And I'm like, she'd sit there.
[28:22] I'm like, no, but you found an egg like six months earlier.
[28:25] So I'm like, no.
[28:26] I'm like, it's probably dandruff and she just freaks out.
[28:29] And I shaved their heads and then when their hair grew back and they went back to that school, they brought it home again.
[28:35] And the other parents on the chat were like, can everyone stop with the nits?
[28:39] She's with the nits, not like with the gastro.
[28:41] I'm like, suck it in my kids' gastro.
[28:43] So, okay, good to know.
[28:45] So if you get knits, guys, you can.
[28:48] There are options.
[28:48] There's options.
[28:49] It's not oil-based.
[28:50] That's the evil options.
[28:52] So this was another one that came up quite a bit.
[28:55] Hi, this is Kelly.
[28:56] I'm just wondering if it's at all possible to reuse the hair for keratin bonds instead of getting new hair every time you need to move up.
[29:05] No, they can't.
[29:06] But there's actually a beautiful charity that Great Links are involved in.
[29:10] And the hair is actually donated to the Little Princess Trust.
[29:15] And the hair gets made into wigs for children that are suffering from hair loss.
[29:20] Oh, so good.
[29:21] Yeah, it's beautiful.
[29:22] We're almost ready for our application, Jess.
[29:25] But I just wanted to ask, what's the biggest misconception people have about keratin bond extensions?
[29:30] And what's the biggest mistake that they can make that shortens the life of their extensions?
[29:34] Yeah.
[29:35] I think that they're just not for everyone.
[29:37] I think it's probably one.
[29:39] Yeah.
[29:40] Or that they're crazy expensive.
[29:42] I don't think people understand that there's an entry level into it.
[29:45] And that you don't need them lifted every five or six weeks.
[29:47] Yeah, they're so low maintenance because people think keratin bones are so much involved in getting them done.
[29:52] They must be high maintenance.
[29:53] It's like there's actually no maintenance.
[29:55] Like it's a longer appointment in the initial.
[29:57] How long?
[29:57] How long?
[29:58] We'll find out.
[29:59] Depends how many.
[30:00] Yeah, so anywhere between an hour to three hours, depending how many are going in the hair.
[30:06] And do you ever have clients that do, for instance, if we're thinking of cost, so having maybe a weft at the back and then doing keratin bonding just at the front?
[30:15] Yep.
[30:15] So there are hybrid applications.
[30:17] So Great Links has a weft, tapes, and bonds options as well, but their tapes are non-adhesive, so they're not leaving a glue in the hair.
[30:25] And then the wefts are really flat, really thin, and the beads are tiny.
[30:29] We do do hybrid applications for that reason.
[30:32] And everyone loves security bonds, definitely around the front.
[30:35] Yeah.
[30:35] But once you've had keratin violence.
[30:37] You're just like, I'm not going back.
[30:38] People will like get the grocery bill further down and buy the extensions.
[30:42] Yes.
[30:43] I was like, sorry, Val, your credit card's going to get smashed.
[30:48] We've got one last listener question before we get into our treatment.
[30:52] Hi, this is Sophie.
[30:54] Just wondering if you have any recommendations on sell-ons and where I can get this done.
[30:59] So Great Lengths itself has a salon locator.
[31:03] So you can actually look in on their website of a salon that provides the Great Lengths.
[31:07] But I would always be looking for a specialist.
[31:09] So you don't want someone that just has it on there and God knows if they've done it in the last five years or not.
[31:15] So you want someone, I would go onto their Instagram page.
[31:17] I would see their techniques.
[31:19] I would make sure that they have the same values and morals that you have when it comes to your hair, whether they're specializing in hair health or whether they're throwing in
[31:25] six packs of tape and trying to create like a crazy amount of hair in someone's head, like alignment for sure.
[31:33] But if they've got great lengths, you know that they've picked a luxury product because they believe in the quality of it.
[31:38] So you'd be pretty safe.
[31:39] Okay.
[31:40] And are they Australia-wide?
[31:42] Yes.
[31:42] Okay.
[31:43] So, yeah.
[31:43] Wherever you are in Australia, go on, have a look, and you'll be able to find someone for you.
[31:47] Yeah.
[31:47] All right.
[31:47] So, we're going to get into it now.
[31:49] Kirby, you have brought in your master senior stylist, Olivia.
[31:53] Where can we find you both?
[31:55] So, my salon is in Sydney, and we are just in Cronulla.
[31:59] I don't know if anyone knows where Cronulla is, but it's about 35 minutes from the city.
[32:03] Yeah.
[32:03] Yeah, and tell us the name of your song so we can... Pelo by Largo.
[32:06] Pelo by Largo.
[32:08] Okay, amazing.
[32:09] All right.
[32:10] Let's...
[32:11] Drum roll time.
[32:12] I know, how exciting.
[32:13] Let's go get addicted to keratin bond extensions.
[32:17] I guess, you know, every six months we'll be probably flying to Sydney.
[32:21] All right, we'll just go on the website and find someone in Melbourne, but I think we're going to fall in love with Kirby and Olivia.
[32:25] I'm already in love, so I'm already going to sit here every four to six months now.
[32:29] She's like, I don't take any new clients, guys.
[32:31] This was a one-time offering, girl.
[32:34] Sorry.
[32:34] See you later.
[32:35] My books are full.
[32:36] Yeah, yeah.
[32:37] Now fuck off.
[32:38] Literally.
[32:40] All right, let's go.
[32:41] Let's go.
[32:42] Let's go.
[32:51] Welcome to the Vanish Keratin Bond Hair Salon, where for the next four or five hours, Beck and Jess will be getting their treatment.
[33:00] During that time, there'll be a lot of chat about hair and hair extensions.
[33:05] Hollywood celebrities, do you reckon they all have this?
[33:07] All of them have extensions.
[33:09] All of them.
[33:10] Like Margot Robbie, like they would all have them.
[33:11] Everyone has extensions.
[33:12] I'm like, surely their hair is not.
[33:14] Never.
[33:14] And on a shoot, they have three extra pieces put in.
[33:18] But like a typical salon, there'll also be some weird and random conversations.
[33:24] How do I make spaghetti bolognese?
[33:25] Mum, I've had the pasta.
[33:28] Mum, the toast is broken.
[33:30] Mum's like, what am I going to do about it?
[33:31] I'm like, I don't know, fix it.
[33:33] But let's kick off their keratin transformation by getting rid of the old ones.
[33:38] Jess, your wef's out.
[33:39] Wef's out.
[33:41] You've got a lot of hair, babe.
[33:44] Oh, my God.
[33:44] It just looks like frizz.
[33:46] What is going on?
[33:49] We should just have one row, just one row in.
[33:52] But I put all these rows in because my hair fell out.
[33:55] Yep.
[33:56] My hair just was not great and I had lost it all.
[34:00] And I've now just, like, I won't get colours.
[34:02] I won't get cuts.
[34:03] I've been shocking.
[34:05] It's like my last colour was in, oh, gosh, lippery.
[34:11] Your root colour's gorgeous.
[34:12] Is it?
[34:13] Yes.
[34:13] It's beautiful.
[34:14] I feel like it's getting darker as I get older, though.
[34:16] Oh, so pretty.
[34:18] But I'm throwing so much red through here.
[34:20] And it's from my, um... Tanf.
[34:24] it's from fake tan on my face.
[34:25] And I didn't know for so long.
[34:27] I thought I was a full, like, wrangler.
[34:28] Yeah.
[34:29] And I was like, my pubes are red.
[34:31] Yeah.
[34:31] And I didn't understand what was going on.
[34:33] It was actually a fake tan.
[34:34] Fake tan.
[34:39] How's all the hair look down there?
[34:41] Because I've had a weft in for a year.
[34:42] Is the hair really damaged along there?
[34:45] Like breakage and stuff?
[34:46] There's a little irritation on the scalp itself.
[34:51] Like from a density perspective, it seems pretty okay.
[34:54] Not too bad.
[34:55] Yeah.
[34:57] Do you flip your hair?
[34:58] No, just down the middle usually.
[35:00] Ever when you're styling, do you flip?
[35:01] Oh yeah, sometimes, yeah.
[35:02] So how far over do you flip?
[35:04] Mm, quite far.
[35:06] Yep.
[35:07] And I wear it up a lot.
[35:09] Uh-huh, so wearing up is fine.
[35:11] When you're flipping, it just means that we're a little bit, like we can't go into this section.
[35:16] So you're happy not to have any bonds in there?
[35:18] Yeah, right in the front.
[35:19] Yeah, I reckon.
[35:21] I'll have to go under here.
[35:22] Yeah, that's fine.
[35:27] How many colours do you have there?
[35:29] I think seven then.
[35:30] Oh my gosh.
[35:32] Yeah.
[35:32] Let's just stick all of it in.
[35:34] All of them in.
[35:34] All of it in.
[35:35] Girl's dream.
[35:36] I know.
[35:37] Your natural is so pretty.
[35:38] Oh, I feel like as I get older though, it's just getting a little bit mousy.
[35:43] I've actually gone a lot darker.
[35:45] I'm usually really, really blonde.
[35:46] Okay.
[35:47] Your inspo was a little bit lived in but quite creamy and melty.
[35:50] What's it called?
[35:51] It's called something.
[35:52] It's like they call it, is it iced tea?
[35:57] No, no, I'm not.
[35:58] There's a name for everything.
[36:00] There was like, yeah, matcha.
[36:03] You don't want matcha.
[36:04] Strawberry matcha.
[36:05] Strawberry matcha, especially when I've been in the pool.
[36:09] Yeah, that's a natural colour that comes without your choice.
[36:12] Yes, yes, exactly.
[36:13] There's an actual blonde at the moment.
[36:15] Is it called Rich Girl Blonde?
[36:17] Old Money Blonde.
[36:18] Old Money Blonde.
[36:19] There she goes.
[36:20] There, that's it.
[36:21] Make me old money.
[36:22] Do you have Afterpay?
[36:32] Fonda, look at you go.
[36:34] Oh, my God, you guys get to see each other's makeup while the other one can't see.
[36:38] Oh, what does it look like?
[36:39] Yes, oh, my God.
[36:40] It's amazing.
[36:41] It's amazing.
[36:42] You're not cutting it.
[36:43] You're not cutting it.
[36:45] You're not cutting it.
[36:45] I'm not cutting it.
[36:46] You're not cutting it.
[36:47] We're running from the scissors.
[36:51] So I had like 24-inch long extensions and somehow they're not 24-inch anymore.
[36:55] And you never cut them?
[36:57] I never cut them.
[36:57] No.
[36:57] I swear Marie cuts them.
[36:58] Marie cuts them.
[36:59] When I'm not looking.
[37:00] I don't know how she does that.
[37:01] So she chases me around the summer with scissors.
[37:04] And we're screaming at each other.
[37:06] And everyone's just like, do not cut my hair.
[37:09] So funny.
[37:10] She just gets so angry.
[37:11] So I swear to God, when I'm not looking, she's like...
[37:14] Snipping the ends.
[37:14] Snipping the ends.
[37:15] I just don't.
[37:16] She just.
[37:17] I just don't understand.
[37:18] While I'm in the basin.
[37:18] It's like your, like, mum sneaking your veggies into your mouth.
[37:22] Yeah.
[37:22] I know.
[37:22] Because then she's.
[37:23] Doing what you need when you're not.
[37:24] I know.
[37:25] And then when she gets the broom out and I'm like, she's rooming around me, I'm like, have you cut my hair?
[37:28] Why would you need a broom?
[37:30] Because I'm like, why do you need a broom?
[37:31] So I literally, every time I get up after getting my hair done, I'm looking to see on the floor if there's a strand of my hair.
[37:36] Speck of dust.
[37:37] Yeah.
[37:38] So I'm just like trauma when I walk in.
[37:40] That's so funny.
[37:40] I know.
[37:40] I know
[37:41] Or trauma.
[37:41] Where her worst nightmare?
[37:43] Worst nightmare.
[37:44] Loz Phillips has become her worst nightmare too now.
[37:45] Oh, really?
[37:46] Yeah.
[37:47] Poor Marie would go in there.
[37:49] Imagine like someone the whole time sitting there in your chair.
[37:53] Telling you how to do your job.
[37:53] Thinking they know best and telling you how to do your job that you've been doing for like...
[37:58] 30 years.
[38:00] I'm like, not this, more like this.
[38:02] Do it like this.
[38:02] She's like, I'm not done yet.
[38:04] Shut up.
[38:04] Stop touching it.
[38:05] I'm like, yeah, I'm sorry.
[38:06] You're your worst nightmare.
[38:07] We love you.
[38:09] We love you.
[38:09] I sit down.
[38:09] She's like, now what are you going to tell me to do?
[38:11] I'm like, can you start from back to front?
[38:13] She goes, I just start to do my hair.
[38:14] I'm like, this is not back to front.
[38:15] Can you go back to front of me?
[38:17] She goes, I've been doing this for 30 years.
[38:19] I'm like, no, do it this way.
[38:21] It's a new way of doing it.
[38:23] I put it on chat GPT.
[38:25] I know how to do your job better because I asked Chatty G. I asked Chatty G. I asked Chatty G. Becky with the good hair.
[38:34] They look so good.
[38:35] Really?
[38:36] I love girls with long hair.
[38:40] I'm on to my third meal of the day.
[38:42] Can't stop eating.
[38:43] Yeah, I love long hair.
[38:45] Same.
[38:46] It's my fave.
[38:47] Because one day we're going to have to cut it all off when we're really old.
[38:50] No, I'll be doing these when I'm 90.
[38:51] Oh, my God, stop.
[38:52] Really?
[38:57] Jess, you're going to love yourself sick.
[38:59] I can't wait.
[39:00] Oh, my God.
[39:01] We're not cutting yours at all.
[39:02] No.
[39:03] No, we're not cutting it.
[39:04] No, because this is the length you've always wanted to be.
[39:06] Yeah, but this is what I was, and somehow they shrunk.
[39:09] Does hair shrink asking for a friend?
[39:14] Typically no.
[39:15] I don't understand.
[39:17] When you pull your hair back, because of the baby hairs, do you sweep it back and not flip it?
[39:23] Yeah, I usually do the tight ponytail, like the updo, half updo, half down, and I sweep it back like that.
[39:32] Sometimes I'll go all of them.
[39:35] Like no part line?
[39:36] No part line.
[39:37] It's actually a lot easier to me not just part line because I've got like the worst hairline ever.
[39:44] And my middle part, there's this hair that's,
[39:47] You can see my middle part.
[39:48] There's this line.
[39:49] One wants to go the other way.
[39:49] The other way?
[39:50] Yeah.
[39:51] Zora.
[39:52] Yeah, you saw her.
[39:53] She's not hiding.
[39:54] She's not hiding.
[39:55] She's annoying.
[40:00] Oh, my God.
[40:01] I'm going to send you something really funny.
[40:03] You've got to read it out.
[40:04] You've got to read it out loud.
[40:04] Yeah.
[40:06] Standard salon chat.
[40:08] Someone just slid into my DMs.
[40:09] Oh, my God, stop.
[40:11] Are you texting it to me or are you sending it to me on Instagram?
[40:13] I'm texting it to you and you're going to read it out.
[40:16] Oh.
[40:17] The shit that slides into my DMs.
[40:19] The shit that slides into Bec's DMs.
[40:21] All right.
[40:21] His name's Shane.
[40:22] Shane.
[40:23] Shano.
[40:24] Oh, no, it's Shano.
[40:25] It is actually Shano.
[40:26] Shano.
[40:27] My ex-boyfriend's called Shano.
[40:28] You've got to say it in the accent.
[40:29] Shano.
[40:30] Becky, it's me, your... What?
[40:35] Becky, it's me, your black dwang baby.
[40:37] No, dog.
[40:38] Drog?
[40:39] Becky, it's me, your black dwang baby daddy.
[40:42] I need help.
[40:43] Is that how?
[40:44] That says dwang to me.
[40:45] No, dog.
[40:46] There's no N in it.
[40:47] Okay.
[40:47] Oh, my God.
[40:48] Okay.
[40:48] Let me read it.
[40:50] Becky, it's your black dwang baby daddy.
[40:53] I need help to get on my feet.
[40:55] Organise.
[40:56] Assistance.
[40:57] I am at my dysfunctional mother's house.
[41:02] With no help.
[41:03] Please help your baby daddy.
[41:05] What?
[41:05] Help.
[41:07] So which one is your, which one is, which kid is his?
[41:11] Out of your four.
[41:13] Becky, it's me, your black dog, baby daddy.
[41:16] I need help to get on my feet.
[41:17] Organised assistance.
[41:18] I'm at my dysfunctional mother's house with no help.
[41:20] Please help your baby daddy.
[41:22] Oh, my God.
[41:23] Stop.
[41:24] I think it's a fake account.
[41:25] I think it's a troll account.
[41:27] Mate, the joy I find in my unread, like, dysfunctional messages over on the side that sometimes when I need a laugh, I'll slide in there.
[41:36] The funniest things.
[41:41] I love these statistics don't lie.
[41:42] Average duration of a phone call.
[41:45] Boy to boy, 59 seconds.
[41:46] Boy to mum, 50.
[41:47] Boy to dad, 30.
[41:48] Boy to girl, one hour, 20.
[41:51] 23 minutes, 59 seconds.
[41:53] Girl to girl, five hours.
[41:54] Oh, my God.
[41:56] Husband to wife, three seconds.
[41:57] Stop.
[41:59] Mum to married daughter, 10 hours.
[42:02] Wife to husband, 14 missed calls.
[42:07] Well, mine's husband to wife, 14 missed calls.
[42:10] Yeah.
[42:11] And I get on the French and mum, it is hours, 10 minutes.
[42:16] She knows everything.
[42:18] Deepest.
[42:18] She knows that I poo.
[42:20] Mum's just like, Jessica, you don't need to tell me when you fart.
[42:23] Because I, about everything.
[42:31] They, oh, my God, actually gave me the ick.
[42:33] This is my husband.
[42:34] We went away and caused it.
[42:37] Oh, is this when you're in Singapore?
[42:39] He calls it the lamb lasso.
[42:40] What?
[42:41] Oh, my God.
[42:44] We were at, like, this bougie resort called Bawa Reserve or something.
[42:49] It's, like, this cool little island in Indonesia.
[42:52] And it was, like, this moonlit cinema and, like, this candlelight dining.
[42:55] And he ordered the lamb.
[42:57] And, like, the bit of the lamb got stuck, like,
[43:01] itself, he said, in a lasso around his back molar.
[43:04] So when he was trying to swallow the lamb, the lamb lasso was on his... Oh, my God.
[43:09] I thought he was trying to swallow it.
[43:11] The lamb lasso had hooked onto his molar.
[43:13] So it was like getting stuck in his throat.
[43:15] Stop.
[43:16] So he was like coughing but breathing.
[43:18] He couldn't swallow it.
[43:19] He needed to.
[43:20] Yeah, he was too.
[43:21] So then we're there at like these romantic candles and he makes the most awful sound.
[43:27] It was like a life-saving sound that made everyone stop.
[43:31] It was like a... Oh, my gosh.
[43:35] Like he threw everything at it and he dislodged the lamb.
[43:39] And I'm like, what the fuck was that?
[43:41] I don't know this man.
[43:42] Are you okay?
[43:43] Let that sound.
[43:43] I would have gone up and walked away.
[43:44] I don't know.
[43:46] We always laugh about it now.
[43:48] Remember when you almost died from the lamb lasso?
[43:51] Oh, my God.
[43:54] I can't understand.
[43:55] It reminds me of like, you know when you're younger and you'd eat noodles?
[43:58] Yeah.
[44:00] Yes, I still do it.
[44:01] I'm like... Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[44:04] It's like... Have you ever eaten spaghetti and when you sneeze, it's come out of your nose?
[44:08] No.
[44:09] And you pull it out?
[44:09] I haven't done that yet.
[44:10] I've done that.
[44:11] Yeah.
[44:13] We could do a segment on times you were almost killed by food.
[44:21] Oh, my God, stop.
[44:22] This is a weird shit that I watch on my feed.
[44:25] It comes on your algorithm.
[44:26] Look at this.
[44:27] Here's his politics on mine, like GoPro on a crab.
[44:31] But look at this.
[44:31] Wait, is that a GoPro on the crab?
[44:33] On the crab.
[44:34] A GoPro on a crab?
[44:36] On the crab.
[44:37] I love that.
[44:38] You see?
[44:38] That's AI.
[44:39] Maybe, I don't know.
[44:40] That is 100% AI.
[44:42] Well, I mean, whatever.
[44:43] Maybe not.
[44:44] Did you see the last one?
[44:45] They have little houses.
[44:47] Yeah, but don't they hear the crabs?
[44:49] Oh, no, they're eggs.
[44:50] Oh, no.
[44:50] Oh, they would do that, actually.
[44:52] No, hang on.
[44:53] What does a crab house look like?
[44:57] Betty's Burgers is so good as well.
[44:59] Oh, I feel like one now.
[45:00] Shall we get one?
[45:01] Yes, because you're an old... Do we just have the best idea ever?
[45:07] Betty's Burgers.
[45:08] I've got to do this.
[45:09] This is so... Betty's Burgers.
[45:12] Best idea ever.
[45:13] Oh, my God.
[45:14] Let's please deliver to South Melbourne.
[45:16] I'm just howling over the ocean.
[45:18] Betty's.
[45:19] It's the hair.
[45:21] The glow.
[45:21] She looks like a troll doll.
[45:24] Yes.
[45:24] No, you can't see it.
[45:27] You know what?
[45:28] You can't fucking talk.
[45:29] Let me get it.
[45:30] Oh, look at me, Jess.
[45:32] Oh, my God.
[45:32] You should see how you look.
[45:34] Oh, my God.
[45:36] I cannot.
[45:37] Jess, look at me.
[45:39] Ha, ha.
[45:42] I'm sure I look like this.
[45:46] It's so good.
[45:56] Okay, guys, we've been here for five hours and we are done.
[46:01] So we've had the keratin bond extensions applied.
[46:05] Then we've had the haircut done to blend them all in.
[46:09] And now we are ready for our big reveal.
[46:11] And I've got to say, I can see you, Jess.
[46:13] I can see you.
[46:13] You look ridiculous.
[46:14] I love you.
[46:15] You look ridiculously good.
[46:16] You look like a mermaid.
[46:17] I love you.
[46:18] I love you so much.
[46:19] I love you a little bit more.
[46:20] What's her name from the splash?
[46:23] Daryl Hannah.
[46:24] Oh, you're Daryl Hannah.
[46:25] Oh, Daryl Hannah.
[46:26] Dead.
[46:26] Oh, my God.
[46:27] You look like Beyonce.
[46:28] I'm obsessed.
[46:29] I'm obsessed.
[46:30] All right.
[46:30] Close your eyes.
[46:31] Close your eyes.
[46:32] She's taking the curtain off our mirrors.
[46:34] Oh, my God.
[46:35] Stop.
[46:35] Stop.
[46:37] Stop.
[46:38] Dun, dun, dun, dun.
[46:40] Dun, dun, dun, dun.
[46:44] Oh, my God.
[46:47] Oh, oh, oh, oh.
[46:49] Can you believe this is my natural hair?
[46:51] There's nothing fake on me.
[46:54] At all.
[46:55] Everything's mine.
[46:56] Everything, even my boobs.
[46:59] Oh, my God.
[47:00] That color match is so good.
[47:03] That is insane.
[47:03] Wow.
[47:04] So five different colors.
[47:06] And I have four.
[47:07] Wow.
[47:07] But the blend is so amazing.
[47:10] Oh, wow.
[47:11] Can't get over.
[47:12] I haven't had a color, a hair color, since like end of Feb.
[47:16] And my hair looks like I've just had a fresh color put through.
[47:18] So Kirby, describe my color and Jess's color.
[47:22] So I would say you're like a neutral warm blonde.
[47:25] And so you have like a little bit of that creaminess, that caramel tones.
[47:29] And then we've put that warm in to carry out the warmth that's going through your hair.
[47:32] And then for Jess, you're a really creamy, buttery blonde.
[47:35] So we were able to elevate your blonde to be even lighter than you've been getting with your natural color.
[47:40] And so that helped to kind of enhance it and make it really bright for you.
[47:43] Okay.
[47:44] So good.
[47:45] I'm just going to go home and stare at myself literally all night.
[47:48] Because we were saying before.
[47:49] Kids feed yourself.
[47:50] Yeah, yeah.
[47:52] We've just not been able to look at ourselves for like the last four or five hours.
[47:55] And our mothers have been on the podcast before and said how much we stare at ourselves.
[48:00] Like we actually love ourselves.
[48:02] This has been a really hard five hours.
[48:04] It's been a really hard five hours.
[48:05] I've not been able to stare at ourselves.
[48:07] But oh my God, I'm obsessed.
[48:10] I'm never cutting this.
[48:11] I'm never.
[48:12] I am so hot.
[48:15] You're never cutting your hair.
[48:16] I love it.
[48:17] You look younger.
[48:18] I love it.
[48:18] Do I?
[48:19] Yes.
[48:19] That's all you had to say.
[48:20] That you look younger.
[48:20] That's all you had to say.
[48:21] So.
[48:21] I feel like when you have long hair, you look young.
[48:23] So.
[48:24] And when it's thick and luscious, you look young.
[48:26] And when you're old, you get a bob.
[48:27] Yes.
[48:27] I will never get a bob.
[48:29] I know.
[48:29] We're just saying that.
[48:30] We're going to be like, have like these long gray.
[48:32] Yeah.
[48:32] Yeah.
[48:33] Yeah.
[48:33] Yeah.
[48:34] It's pretty.
[48:35] I'll be wise.
[48:35] Long hair for me is pretty.
[48:36] It feels feminine, I think.
[48:38] So feminine.
[48:38] You can kind of move it around, toss it around.
[48:41] So Kirby, thank you to you and Liv.
[48:43] Like, amazing.
[48:44] Girls.
[48:45] Thank you.
[48:46] Smash it.
[48:47] It's not an easy task.
[48:49] Well, you now know what's involved.
[48:53] It's a big job.
[48:54] It is.
[48:54] Yeah.
[48:55] Is everyone in your salon trained to do it?
[48:57] No.
[48:58] Because people are, like, it is quite a big thing to invest in.
[49:02] And so you really want to make sure you have specialists in the salon and that are passionate about it, not everyone doing it.
[49:07] So we have three girls in our salon.
[49:09] Right.
[49:10] Amazing.
[49:11] So talk to us the first 48 hours, do's and don'ts.
[49:14] So you don't want to be washing your hair in the first 48 hours, no excessive exercise where you're sweating and steaming the hair.
[49:22] But that's literally about it.
[49:23] There's not much.
[49:24] That's so good.
[49:25] And as they grow out, like in six weeks if we need a color touch-up,
[49:30] Can we color our hair with the keratin bonding?
[49:32] Can we do a root tint?
[49:34] How does it work?
[49:35] Absolutely.
[49:36] You can definitely color it.
[49:37] And the sections that we've put bonds in, you're not going to really be coloring those sections anyway.
[49:42] So if you were doing your foils, that's going to be through your part line, around your hairline, around your nape.
[49:47] So you can't foil the actual root of the extension itself, but you can foil in and all around it.
[49:53] Okay.
[49:53] Because we had wefts in before.
[49:55] They're placed in a similar, like in a row, right?
[49:58] So you still have rows.
[49:59] Yes.
[49:59] Yeah.
[49:59] But they're a little bit more personalized on their angles, how far they can go forward to the hairline, how high up they can come.
[50:06] But we try to still do it in a uniformed shape just so when you're shampooing your hair, you can open up your fingers and get in between the rows and shampoo.
[50:16] And obviously, and for colors as well if you need to do a color.
[50:19] Yeah.
[50:19] Yes.
[50:19] I can feel the rose.
[50:20] Yeah.
[50:21] One, two, three, four.
[50:23] Yeah.
[50:23] But if you think about it, you're not wanting to show your bonds.
[50:26] Your color doesn't matter what's in between the bonds.
[50:28] Well, that's true.
[50:29] Yeah.
[50:29] So those sections are never going to be opened up.
[50:31] Yeah.
[50:33] Otherwise the bonds would be exposed.
[50:34] Yeah.
[50:34] So let's talk about numbers.
[50:37] How much do you reckon we have in our hair?
[50:40] I would say 110 max and they were all minis.
[50:44] So 110 max and then you cut in half.
[50:45] I think somewhere between 90 to 110.
[50:47] Yeah.
[50:47] And then turn them into minis.
[50:49] So like 200.
[50:50] You like the sound of that, don't you?
[50:52] She was like, more than 269.
[50:55] You know what?
[50:56] It's just like, it is so long.
[50:59] The color is insane.
[51:01] First impressions are, I just want to look like this forever.
[51:04] Oh, my God, I'm obsessed.
[51:05] I mean, the best thing is your color fade itch.
[51:07] You won't get any.
[51:08] And so it's like, you know, the thing of being a blonde a lot of the time or being a bronze, like you get so much color fade itch and this just maintains that beautiful fresh color for you.
[51:16] I love it.
[51:17] I love it.
[51:18] Thank you so much.
[51:19] This has been amazing.
