What if every conversation you’ve ever had wasn’t just between you and another person?Padre Pio spoke about something most people have never considered that when two people meet, their guardian angels are also present.. and they’re actively working.

## Transcript

[0:00] This is what Padre Pio said is happening every single time you
[0:03] come into contact with another person.
[0:05] And if you actually understand this and hold on to this, it
[0:09] will change the weight of every conversation that you have for
[0:12] the rest of your life. Because in Catholic teaching,
[0:14] every person is assigned a guardian Angel by God, and that
[0:18] Angel is responsible for guiding, protecting, and helping
[0:21] your soul towards salvation. That part most of us have heard
[0:24] about, but what we haven't thought about is what happens
[0:27] when two people come into contact with each other.
[0:30] Padre Pio said that when you meet someone, your guardian
[0:33] Angel and their guardian Angel are both present and actively
[0:36] involved in that moment. So the interaction isn't just
[0:39] between two people. There are 4 beings involved,
[0:42] you, the other person, and both of your angels.
[0:45] And according to Padre Pio, the angels are already engaged in
[0:49] that encounter before either person even says anything.
[0:52] Because they're not limited in the same way that we are.
[0:55] Which means by the time a conversation starts, something's
[0:58] already been set in motion on level that we can't see.
[1:01] And he didn't speak about this as an idea or reflection.
[1:05] He spoke about it as something that he witnessed repeatedly
[1:08] throughout his life. Padre Pio spoke about guardian
[1:10] angels with this level of familiarity that we only see
[1:15] when someone has lived very close to the spiritual reality
[1:18] of the church's teaching. He wasn't repeating something
[1:21] that he had read like I am or been taught growing up.
[1:24] He treated his guardian Angel as someone that he actually worked
[1:28] with. He would ask his guardian Angel
[1:30] to go to people when they were far away, especially when they
[1:33] needed to pray or when they were in danger spiritually.
[1:36] He would even tell people who were struggling or refusing to
[1:39] listen to him to send their guardian Angel to him instead
[1:43] because he trusted that the Angel would cooperate even when
[1:46] the person wouldn't. And this lines up with Catholic
[1:49] teaching because angels are not subject to human resistance and
[1:52] the way that you and I are. They obey God completely, and
[1:55] their mission is always ordered toward the good of the soul that
[1:58] they are assigned to. Padre Pio also spoke about
[2:01] seeing angels present in ordinary moments, during
[2:04] confession, during prayer, and even just people walking through
[2:08] the monastery. He describes them as actively
[2:11] attentive to the souls that they were guarding, especially in
[2:14] moments where grace was being offered or resisted.
[2:17] So when he explains what happens when two people meet, he's not
[2:21] speculating or making things up or imagining how it might work.
[2:25] He's actually describing something that he believed he
[2:28] observed over and over and over again in real situations.
[2:32] And that's what makes the next thing he says worth paying
[2:34] attention to. So there's a specific moment
[2:36] where this becomes very concrete.
[2:39] So a woman traveled a long distance to see Padre Pio
[2:41] because her relationship with her son had completely broken
[2:45] down. They'd had argued repeatedly
[2:47] over his life and his choices and his departure from the
[2:50] faith. And eventually he stopped
[2:52] speaking to his mother altogether.
[2:53] He wouldn't even open her letters.
[2:55] He wouldn't receive her in any way.
[2:57] And every attempt that she made to reach him and did in
[3:00] rejection. So she went to Padre Pio asking
[3:03] for prayer, hoping that he would intercede for reconciliation.
[3:06] But before she could even explain the situation, he
[3:09] stopped her and told her that her guardian Angel and her son's
[3:12] guardian Angel were already in communication, and that they had
[3:15] been in communication for months.
[3:17] He knew the situation without being told, which is something
[3:21] that shows up often in accounts of Padre Pio's life, especially
[3:24] in confession. But the part that matters here
[3:27] is what he reveals next. Because instead of immediately
[3:30] telling her what to do, he begins explaining what is
[3:33] actually happening between their souls through their angels.
[3:36] Padre Pio explained that when two people come into each
[3:39] other's presence, their guardian angels become aware of each
[3:42] other in a complete and immediate way.
[3:45] And in that encounter, each Angel presents the soul it's
[3:48] responsible for, which means the Angel communicates the true
[3:52] spiritual condition of that person.
[3:55] So this includes the state of their conscience, the sins that
[3:58] maybe have not been reconciled, the graces that have been
[4:01] received and responded to, maybe the habits that are still
[4:04] forming, the wounds that are still influencing their
[4:07] decisions, and the areas where they're resisting God.
[4:10] This isn't partial knowledge and it's not something that unfolds
[4:13] over time. Angels by their nature
[4:16] understands in a direct and immediate way.
[4:19] So when they encounter each other, there is no confusion or
[4:22] delay in what is known. And this is important because it
[4:26] means that in every single interaction that you have, the
[4:29] full spiritual reality of both people is already present and
[4:33] understood at a level that you are not aware about.
[4:35] So even if the conversation stays on the surface, what's
[4:38] actually at stake is much deeper than what's being said out loud.
[4:42] Padre Pio said that this exchange of information isn't
[4:45] for the purpose of exposing or accusing the person, it's for
[4:48] cooperation. Because every human interaction
[4:51] creates a real opportunity for grace to move between two
[4:54] people, and the angels are tasked with helping that happen.
[4:58] So once they're aware of the condition of both souls, they
[5:01] begin to act in light of that knowledge they're looking for
[5:04] where one person might be able to contribute to the good of the
[5:07] other. And this could take the form of
[5:08] a conversation or maybe a moment of patience, a correction, maybe
[5:12] a word of encouragement or even a silence that prevents
[5:15] something harmful from being said.
[5:17] And they influence these moments by prompting thoughts,
[5:21] strengthening or softening the will, and helping the person
[5:24] respond to grace that's being offered in that situation.
[5:27] So from a human perspective, it feels like you're deciding what
[5:31] to say, how to respond, and how the interaction unfolds.
[5:34] But at the same time, your Angel is working to guide you toward
[5:37] what would be most beneficial for your soul and for the other
[5:40] person's soul. And their Angel is doing the
[5:43] same exact thing on their side. So the outcome of that
[5:46] interaction isn't random. It's shaped by how both people
[5:49] respond to grace in that moment and by how the angels are
[5:53] cooperating in service of that grace.
[5:55] When the woman told Padre Pio that her son wouldn't even open
[5:59] her letters, that every attempt that she had made to reach him
[6:01] was rejected, he didn't treat that as the end of the
[6:04] situation. He explains that even when a
[6:06] person refuses contact, the relationship isn't actually cut
[6:10] off at the level that matters most.
[6:12] Because every time that she wrote to her son, her guardian
[6:15] Angel was carrying more than the physical letter.
[6:18] The Angel carried her intention, her love for him, the grief that
[6:22] she was experiencing, and the desire for reconciliation.
[6:25] And when that letter reached her son, even if he chose not to
[6:28] open it, his guardian Angel had already received everything that
[6:31] was being communicated through it.
[6:33] And this is consistent with how angels operate in Catholic
[6:36] theology, because they're not limited to external actions or
[6:40] material signs. They work directly with the
[6:42] interior life of the person. So even though the Sun exercised
[6:46] his free will to reject the letter outwardly, he couldn't
[6:49] prevent the interior movement that followed.
[6:52] His Angel would take what was received and begin to apply it
[6:55] in ways that corresponded to what his soul needed.
[6:58] That could be a memory surfacing at a moment when he wasn't
[7:01] expecting it. It could be a sense of
[7:02] uneasiness when he thought about his mother.
[7:05] It could have been a moment of clarity where he recognized
[7:07] something that maybe he had been avoiding.
[7:09] And from his perspective, these experiences would feel like his
[7:13] own thoughts, his own emotions, and his own reflections, but
[7:16] they're being influenced and arranged in a way that is
[7:19] ordered toward bringing him back to the truth.
[7:22] So even in a situation where there is no communication, no
[7:26] response, and no visible change, something real is still
[7:29] happening beneath that silence. Padre Pio made it very clear
[7:32] that while a person has real freedom to accept or reject
[7:36] grace, they don't have control over whether their guardian
[7:39] Angel is active. The son could ignore his mother,
[7:42] he could refuse to reconcile, he could continue in his decisions
[7:46] that were distancing him from God, but he couldn't stop his
[7:48] Angel from continuing to act on his behalf.
[7:51] Because angels don't answer to us, they answer to God, and
[7:55] their mission is assigned, and they carry it out faithfully,
[7:58] regardless of how cooperative the person is.
[8:01] And this explains something that most of us experience but don't
[8:04] know how to account for. Why certain thoughts come back
[8:06] at specific times, why certain moments stay with us long after
[8:10] they happen. Why something small can suddenly
[8:13] force us to confront something we've been avoiding.
[8:15] Those things aren't random. They are often the result of
[8:18] spiritual influence that's working within the limits of
[8:21] your freedom, but still working consistently toward your
[8:24] salvation. And This is why Padre Pio
[8:26] insisted that no prayer, no sacrifice, no act of love
[8:30] offered for another person is ever wasted, because even if
[8:33] that person rejects you directly, their Angel is still
[8:37] receiving and applying what is being offered.
[8:39] Padre Pio also explains that not every encounter between two
[8:42] people unfolds in the same way, because the condition of the
[8:46] soul matters. When a person who is living in
[8:49] serious sin encounter someone who is actively living in grace,
[8:53] the interaction involves more resistance because the influence
[8:56] affecting the person in sin doesn't cooperate with what the
[9:00] the angels are trying to do. In Catholic teaching, this is
[9:02] where the reality of demonic influence becomes relevant, in
[9:06] the sense that a person who is consistently rejecting grace
[9:09] becomes more susceptible to disorder in their thinking, in
[9:13] their desires, and in their decisions.
[9:15] So when that person comes into contact with someone whose life
[9:19] is ordered toward God, there's tension.
[9:21] Their guardian Angel is still working for their good, but
[9:24] there's opposition to that work. And at the same time, the Angel
[9:28] of the person who is living in grace is able to bring strength
[9:32] into that encounter because a life that includes prayer,
[9:35] confession, and openness to God increases a person's cooperation
[9:39] with grace, and that gives their Angel more to work with in that
[9:43] moment. So the interaction becomes a
[9:44] point where something can actually shift, and it's not
[9:48] because of force, but it's because grace is being
[9:51] introduced into a situation where it's been resisted.
[9:54] Padre Pio described a situation where this played out in a way
[9:57] that's very direct. A man who was in a state of
[10:00] serious sin was walking in with the intention of repeating that
[10:03] sin. At the same time, a woman who
[10:06] had just gone to confession and received absolution passed by
[10:09] him. They didn't speak.
[10:11] There was no conversation, no acknowledgement, nothing
[10:14] outwardly significant. But in that moment their
[10:17] guardian angels encountered each other.
[10:19] And because the woman had just received sanctifying grace
[10:22] through the sacrament of Reconciliation, her soul was in
[10:25] a state of restored relationship with God.
[10:27] Her Angel, carrying that reality, was able able to
[10:30] cooperate with that man's Angel in a way that introduced that
[10:33] grace into his interior life. And the result was immediate.
[10:38] The man stopped walking and he became aware very suddenly of
[10:41] what he was about to do. He experienced a level of
[10:44] clarity that interrupted his decision and he turned around.
[10:47] He didn't go to confession right away.
[10:49] He didn't change everything in that instant, but something had
[10:52] shifted and weeks later he did go to confession and he began to
[10:56] change his life and had no explanation for why that turning
[10:59] point happened. From his perspective, it was
[11:02] just a moment, but from the spiritual perspective, it was
[11:05] the result of two angels cooperating at the exact point
[11:08] where grace could enter. Padre Pio also explained that
[11:11] when two people are connected over time, especially in
[11:14] relationships like parent and child or spouses, their angels
[11:18] aren't only interacting when the people are physically together,
[11:22] They remain in communion. So when a mother prays for her
[11:24] child at night, even if that child is far away, her guardian
[11:28] Angel isn't limited by distance. The Angel goes to the child's
[11:32] Angel, and they begin working in ways that are appropriate to
[11:35] that soul. And this might affect the
[11:37] person's thoughts, their memories, desires, or their
[11:40] sense of restlessness. And again, the person will
[11:43] experience this as something internal, something that feels
[11:46] like it belongs to them, but it is being influenced in a way
[11:49] that corresponds to the prayers being offered for them, Which
[11:52] means that sustained prayer for another person creates a real
[11:56] ongoing effect in their life, even if there's no visible
[11:59] response. And This is why the church
[12:01] consistently teaches perseverance and prayer,
[12:04] especially for people who seem distant or resistance, because
[12:08] the work is still happening even when we can't see it.
[12:11] But Padre Pio also warned that not every relationship
[12:14] contributes to growth. When two people are both
[12:17] entrenched in the same patterns of sin, their interactions
[12:21] reinforce those patterns. And in those cases, their
[12:24] guardian angels aren't able to operate in the same way.
[12:27] Instead of building each other up, the situation becomes one
[12:30] where both angels are focused on limiting damage, trying to
[12:34] prevent further harm rather than helping the souls move forward.
[12:38] And This is why the people you consistently surround yourself
[12:40] with are so important, because your environment shapes what
[12:44] you're exposed to, what you normalize, and what you're being
[12:47] influenced toward. And your guardian Angel, while
[12:50] stronger than you, is still working within the reality of
[12:53] your choices. So if you continually place
[12:56] yourself in situations that pull you away from God or with people
[13:00] that constantly pull you away from God, your angel's work
[13:03] becomes way more difficult because you are cooperating less
[13:06] with what the Angel is trying to do.
[13:08] So when you take all of this and put it all together, the
[13:11] conclusion is very direct. Every single interaction that
[13:14] you have is taking place on 2 levels at the same time.
[13:18] The visible level where you're speaking and listening, reacting
[13:22] and making decisions. And the spiritual level where
[13:24] your guardian Angel and the other person's guardian Angel
[13:27] are actively working for the good of both souls.
[13:30] Which means you're never walking into a conversation alone.
[13:34] You are never dealing with another person in isolation.
[13:37] There's always more happening than what you can see.
[13:40] And This is why Padre Pio strongly encouraged people to
[13:43] pray before important conversations, before conflict,
[13:47] before reconciliation, even before anything where the
[13:50] outcome matters. Because prayer disposes you to
[13:53] receive grace, it aligns your will more closely closely with
[13:57] God, and it gives your guardian Angel greater freedom to act
[14:00] within that moment so that what unfolds isn't just the result of
[14:04] your own reaction, but something that's being guided toward a
[14:07] better outcome. When you take this seriously, it
[14:09] changes the way that you move through your day-to-day in a
[14:12] really practical way, because you start to realize that there
[14:16] is no such thing as a random, neutral interaction.
[14:20] Every conversation has weight. Every person you come into
[14:23] contact with is an opportunity to either move closer to God or
[14:27] further away, and you are participating in that whether
[14:30] you're thinking about it or not. Which means the way you prepare
[14:33] for those moments matter. The way you speak, the way you
[14:36] respond, the way you choose to listen or not listen, all of
[14:40] that has consequences beyond what you can immediately see.
[14:43] And at the same time, it should change how you think about the
[14:46] people in your life who feel distant, difficult, or
[14:50] completely closed off. Because even when you can't
[14:53] reach them directly, you're not cut off from them entirely.
[14:56] Your prayers are still being received, your intentions are
[14:59] still being carried, and something is still happening on
[15:02] their behalf, even if you never see the result of it.
[15:05] And that doesn't remove their freedom, and it doesn't force an
[15:07] outcome. But it does mean that nothing
[15:09] you offer for another person is lost or in vain.
[15:13] So before your next difficult conversation, or before you
[15:16] respond to someone out of frustration, before you write
[15:19] someone off completely, take a moment and pray.
[15:22] Because you're not walking into that situation by yourself, and
[15:25] neither are they. And what happens next isn't just
[15:28] about what you say, it's about what you allow God to do through
[15:32] you in that moment.
