Loconte and Sid discuss Trent Alexander Arnold's fit at Real Madrid. In particular: how much Madrid will benefit from him, and how much he will benefit from the talent around him like Fede Valverde. How he revolutionized Klopp's Liverpool by helping them break down deep blocks, his crazy assist stats that everyone is familiar with by now, his De Bruyne/Fabregas type range from right back, how he compares to Marcelo defensively and offensively, and how he will likely become a new focal point of Real Madrid's buildup play.

## Transcript

[1:02] Well, the rumors for Trent started way back.
[1:08] The rumors started way back in, like when we were playing Man
[1:12] City 20/23/24 and the rumors were that his agent, his brother
[1:18] was meeting with our guys. And in that moment when we lost
[1:21] to or when we didn't lose, but when we couldn't get out of our
[1:24] half and had to go to penalties against Man City, I was just
[1:27] thinking like just go get Trent Florentino.
[1:29] Like we'll get out of our half and one touch.
[1:31] It doesn't matter who's coaching the team.
[1:32] Like one touch, we'll get out of our half and and we got him like
[1:36] every year we go and get the guy that everyone in Europe would
[1:39] really want. And this year, it's Trent.
[1:41] Yes, basically, yeah. Trent is exponential footballer
[1:49] on every sense. I don't think people still
[1:52] realize the magnitude of a signing like this.
[1:56] I know that we're used to cover all and playing that.
[1:58] That's ridiculous level. You're going to get a different
[2:01] player here. You're not going to get a cover
[2:03] all, but you're going to get a player that's more creative in a
[2:08] sense of he can be more of a leader at setting the team
[2:12] forward. We missed that since Alabama
[2:15] basically did his ACL. We didn't have that.
[2:17] So we have to make shifts around it.
[2:20] Never perfect. So we got that back.
[2:23] Even though it's from the side, it doesn't really matter because
[2:26] Trent can do everything that you need on the first phase,
[2:30] progress, on the second phase, he behaves like a midfielder for
[2:34] you and on the final third, he's just your guy.
[2:37] He'll move properly, he will deliver properly.
[2:41] He he doesn't need to pray basically that it reaches a
[2:47] teammate. It will because of that
[2:49] ridiculous technique that he has.
[2:51] Trent is just everything that you asked for on pull back, and
[2:58] I know that he has his shortcomings, which we will
[3:01] discuss today, but I'm just pulling together the whole
[3:04] package. Trent is just ridiculous at any
[3:07] level really, that you want everything.
[3:11] It doesn't matter if you need him or not, you always need him,
[3:14] if that makes sense. 100% I mean, it's just you get to a
[3:17] point offensively when you have to play, when you're just too
[3:20] good. You you create solutions, the
[3:22] team, the game is shaped around to the solutions he create as
[3:25] more than the problems he might cause and by a lot.
[3:28] And so, and I think like it's cool because like, you know, he
[3:33] played against us in the in the final when he was just 18, a
[3:37] little 1819 year old in 2018. So I mean, I remember when he
[3:42] came onto the scene, this guy, his first season, they weren't
[3:45] like tapping in fully to his creativity.
[3:47] He was still a little more of a traditional fullback.
[3:49] He wasn't like Trent the crosser who gets 12 assists.
[3:52] And I remember Man City when Pep played Clop, when they played
[3:57] each other 1718, they tried targeting the space behind Trent
[4:01] with Lido Asane and Trent just survived it.
[4:04] They won. I believe every team tried
[4:06] targeting that space, but Trent was good enough.
[4:08] Like it didn't matter. But 1718 was like the season he
[4:12] came out was like an OK Liverpool team, a very good big
[4:16] game Liverpool team, but they finished with 70 something
[4:18] points in the league. They weren't some dominant
[4:20] Premier League team. And the big reason for that was
[4:23] Jurgen Klopp always played a style that was conducive to like
[4:27] good points totals, but maybe not 95 points totals.
[4:29] It was way too risky, too much up and down basketball games,
[4:33] you would concede a lot of goals.
[4:35] Even his last season that kind of happened where too many games
[4:37] we came back and forth. They lost control of the title
[4:39] race. However, there was a point when
[4:42] Klopp went from like the 75 to a 97 point coach in one season.
[4:47] And you know, Klopp was not seen as this all conquering coach
[4:52] before. He really did this with Trent
[4:53] and his assistant coach as well at the time.
[4:57] They come together and they put the team to have these eights
[5:01] that kind of recycle the ball and you spam Trent's crosses.
[5:05] They play a little more positional.
[5:06] They slow the game down more, but they're spamming crosses
[5:10] through Trent. They're winning second balls and
[5:12] he was the engine offensively. You could argue of that team of
[5:15] a 97 point team, maybe not the engine of the attack, but the
[5:18] engine of the offense, the way it functioned, the the style
[5:21] they chose to play, the trade-offs they picked.
[5:24] He was the IT wasn't Sala, it wasn't Van Dyke, it was Trent.
[5:27] It was was Van Dyke to Trent and then Trent is going to figure
[5:31] out the next play basically. Because again, as I say, the
[5:36] level of IQ and the level of technique are just of the chart
[5:41] really in comparison to any fall back in the world.
[5:43] It's hard to find it. It's very reminiscent of
[5:46] somebody like Philip Long, for example, on the way how Trent
[5:50] sees football and his vision. Not saying that he's alone, but
[5:53] I'm saying that on the way how he envisions football is very
[5:58] reminiscent of him. I really like what Trent gives,
[6:05] I really enjoy his football overall and I just think that he
[6:12] can do way too many things to improve.
[6:14] A-Team Never understood Gareth Southgate.
[6:17] I mean, I do understand why he didn't play him because he
[6:20] wasn't able to coach a team on his level.
[6:24] Yeah, to the level, but it's just I don't understand how you
[6:32] have that level of creativity in your team and you're just not
[6:35] utilizing it because he can't defend what we want.
[6:38] He's just that's that should be one of the easiest solutions to
[6:43] find. Club found it pretty easy to do
[6:45] it. Like they try and get cooked
[6:48] from time to time yes, but which full back hasn't?
[6:52] And the clock. System also taxes fullbacks a
[6:55] bit. Like it's not, it's not easy to
[6:57] defend in a clock system. Like we play way more.
[7:01] Yeah, we're not gonna like give the ball to Trent and send like
[7:04] half our team running up. And if we lose the ball, it's
[7:06] screwed. It's we're not really as
[7:07] aggressive like historically. And yeah, I mean, we, we did put
[7:12] up with Marcelo for years. Like let's just get to the
[7:14] defense. Like what was the difference
[7:16] between Trent and Marcelo? For me, Marcelo is an
[7:18] overlapping fullback. Trent is a hybrid of Philip Lam
[7:21] and Kevin De Bruyne. Like he he's really not someone
[7:25] he can drive and release. He doesn't have to release.
[7:27] He's right back to Bruyne and he can, he can or Fabrias, whatever
[7:30] you want to call it. He has the range.
[7:32] And on the other hand, Marcelo, he wasn't going to be that
[7:37] impactful if he couldn't join the attack.
[7:39] It's not that he couldn't pass, but because he was so good at
[7:43] maneuvering in tight spaces. Yeah, so.
[7:45] So you need him to join the attack to get the press
[7:47] resistance value out of him. And.
[7:49] And so when you lose the ball, even if you don't play gung ho
[7:52] and you're close together, then if like we know, you know how
[7:55] our coaches have been, we've had Carlo a lot like Zidane was
[7:58] here. He tried implementing a rest
[7:59] defense, but in general, the rest defense was not good in
[8:03] Zidane's first spell. And so when we lost the ball, we
[8:05] get caught out. With Trent, I feel like it's
[8:08] more he loses the ball and like he I feel like maybe he's a
[8:11] slightly worse one-on-one defender, but he is not going to
[8:15] get caught out as often. So maybe it won't be that big a
[8:17] deal. Yeah, and also worth remembering
[8:21] a player that this team has named Federico Alberta, who's
[8:25] going to feel pretty much majority of the things that.
[8:29] Frank is Lucas with Lucas, yeah. Yeah, you know like complaining
[8:35] about trans defense when we're watching practically 8 months of
[8:39] Lucas now is just a weird behavior.
[8:42] I'm going to be honest. Like Lucas just has 0 athletism
[8:47] in him to begin with So what were they just having?
[8:51] Is the makeshift right back basically even when Lucas plays
[8:57] So at least he doesn't have to do that.
[8:59] What they think about the dynamics of trend and alert is
[9:04] the fact that they cover each other's weaknesses pretty well.
[9:09] So for example, like Valverde, you don't really want him to be
[9:13] like that first phase type of player.
[9:16] He's not loud. He his normal tendencies.
[9:19] At this point, we could argue that the.
[9:22] He's a better Jordan Henderson. He's a way better Jordan
[9:24] Henderson and they paired him with the trend now.
[9:27] Yeah, you know the lover that we could argue that Zidane and
[9:32] Anjalotti have ruined his potential of being a controller
[9:38] because now he's just so used to driving the ball and going on
[9:43] the right. You can see that the body
[9:45] orientation is always right sided.
[9:47] Or maybe he's trying to loop into the right to create that
[9:51] fake turn so he gets into the space in the center.
[9:55] So he's not really a passer. He's not really somebody to
[9:58] receive this back either. So he's not Valverde is just a
[10:03] weird piece of everything. But he's been miscoached for a
[10:09] very long time now to the point where I think that they have
[10:12] those tangibles that Ancelotti was trying to install on him
[10:15] this season or just simply gone. I think we have a whole season
[10:19] sample of well, they're they're just not being the player to
[10:23] stay as a pivot like he was able to do with Zidan on that 2019,
[10:28] 2020, yeah, or even. Just with the cruise double
[10:30] pivot last year, remember? Yeah, Like that worked, Yeah.
[10:34] Yeah. But that that was Cruise though,
[10:36] you know, like that was with cruise pretty much like pulling
[10:39] the strings off. You move here, you move there,
[10:41] you do this, you do that. So I just think that, well,
[10:47] there's no bad guy anymore for that.
[10:49] I had somebody ask me actually from our group, what about him
[10:53] with Uruguay under Vielsa? I think that he does a better
[10:56] job there. But again, it's international
[10:58] football. It's not.
[11:01] He's still much better when he gets to drive forward.
[11:04] That's what you want to do. You want to allow him to either
[11:07] go on and win and drive or penetrate.
[11:10] Essentially. His drives are his biggest
[11:13] weapon offensively outside of his shot.
[11:15] While Trent is always going to be a passer, he's going to be a
[11:19] player to set up a tempo from from the right side.
[11:22] And he's also going to be like a player that's going to sound
[11:26] weird, but he's going to teach Mother a few things into a
[11:30] movement into finding him. They're going to create good
[11:33] combinations between one another.
[11:34] I would expect you're going to see a lot of them interchanging.
[11:38] One goes 1 inverts and one goes wide.
[11:41] You're going to see that lot. As you said, the good thing that
[11:45] comes there is that both have extremely good switches of play.
[11:50] Extremely good. Valverde is very accurate with
[11:53] it. If he gets the space.
[11:54] Frank can do it in any circumstances really.
[11:57] But one touch switch. But he can one touch switch a
[12:00] switch back to the other side, like off one side.
[12:03] He, he, he just can get you out of top positions, positions
[12:07] where we often lose the ball this year and ends up being
[12:10] costly. So he can get you out of that.
[12:14] He's not a. Controller, though, he's not
[12:16] going to replace Cruz. I think someone like Hudson is
[12:18] going to, I think Hudson's going to have more impact on the
[12:21] central controlling build up. But Trent, I think, yeah, like
[12:25] you said, he's going to help us escape.
[12:27] And kind of like in Puppet, escaping from every phase is
[12:29] going to feel 10 times easier because you just have this
[12:31] weapon and it's just about timing how to escape when
[12:34] coordinating your escape and catching the opposition off
[12:36] guard. Yes, Madrid.
[12:39] Madrid fans in general have this tendency of, how do I say, not
[12:47] appreciating some of the things because they're not really
[12:49] getting that perfect thing, you know, No.
[12:53] For sure. And I make sense, like in Boppa
[12:55] scoring 40 goals this season is bad because apparently Venice
[12:59] just didn't score as much as you should have to and we are not
[13:02] pointing fingers on the coach as to why that is happening.
[13:05] It's not in Boppa's fault Venus scoring as much as he scored
[13:08] last season. I would argue it's not even
[13:10] Venus fault all that much. So if you get like a proper set
[13:15] up, Trent is going to be that ridiculous guy.
[13:18] I think that he's comfortably going to be considered the best
[13:22] right back in world of football. The moment when he's going to
[13:24] step in here, he'll have better players, he'll have better
[13:30] coach, I want to say, than he had last season.
[13:33] I think Alonso is better than Arne Schlot.
[13:36] So he's going to have a better coach in my opinion.
[13:39] He's going to have better players around him, he's going
[13:43] to be better shielded and he's going to improve the off offence
[13:47] of this already really dynamic team 10 times because he's going
[13:53] to be able to find them with these.
[13:55] And now the fact that him and Jude already have a
[13:58] relationship, I think those play a part.
[14:00] And the fact that Jude is great at running, great at getting on
[14:04] the pockets of space. Trent is going to find Jude at
[14:08] all times. You're not going to have those
[14:10] wasted opportunities where Jude's energy is just gone just
[14:14] like that because Lucas is unable to find him or the team
[14:18] is not set up to be able to find him on those races.
[14:21] So. He's also succeeded without guys
[14:25] who can necessarily head like very good at drilled ground
[14:27] crosses so. No.
[14:29] Matter what, the angles will open up with him no matter how
[14:31] you need the ball to curve and bend.
[14:33] If you needed to go straight 90° and then hard left, he knows how
[14:36] to. It will, it will, you know, like
[14:39] it will, it genuinely will. Like, it feels like everything
[14:42] that he wants to do to the ball. It just happens.
[14:44] Because keep in mind, like Sadhyamani is not like some
[14:48] Cristiano Ronaldo, Mani Ferminio Salo.
[14:51] Like even Ferminio wasn't some crazy, he wasn't Benzema and not
[14:54] even close. And so Anderson and wine Alden,
[14:57] we're good, fine. But we have the Jude and the
[14:59] Fede like we have that. And so our attackers.
[15:02] We as well, but actually good footballers on top of getting
[15:06] the athleticism, we actually have like good footballers
[15:10] around 2:00. 100% And so on that note, what do you think the full
[15:16] back pairing has to look like in a four at the back?
[15:19] You think someone like Trent makes a back three possible?
[15:21] See, I feel like the whole thing is he's he's a playmaker.
[15:24] He's not a wing back in a back five.
[15:25] He has to be a right back, back four or he's a midfielder or a
[15:30] midfielder in a back court. You don't think?
[15:34] I think that this midfielder is like Southgate type of like very
[15:39] mediocre coaching where you're just trying to shoehorn someone
[15:43] because being a midfielder takes more than just being a good
[15:45] pass, right? Like it takes a lot of
[15:48] discipline, which we lacked as we have seen, like we can see
[15:52] the fourth of our same one, all because our pivot were survivors
[15:55] and well, they're they're notoriously known for leaving
[15:58] their space open. You would get the same strength.
[16:01] I don't think that trend is unless you want to coach him
[16:05] into that. I think that can happen, but you
[16:08] want really want to lose a generational right back,
[16:11] literally a player that is going to define this whole generation.
[16:15] I don't say the word generational loosely, by the
[16:17] way. I think he really knew that.
[16:19] No, I agree. One-of-a-kind, you know, It's
[16:22] like. Well, I was just saying I think
[16:25] if you ever worry about him defensively, you can always do
[16:28] the thing where you play him right in front of a more
[16:31] defensive right in that zone. And he still plays wide, kind of
[16:35] like a wide right deep Dobryna role, like like a shuttler.
[16:39] Just you don't put him in the back four if you're afraid of
[16:41] like space behind him and and then you put him in.
[16:43] But no matter what, I agree, he needs to play like in the wide
[16:46] right right half space. He needs to be pinging it
[16:48] directly from there. He doesn't need to be a central
[16:51] player. I just meant do you see maybe in
[16:53] certain games Alonzo repositions him.
[16:55] The thing is, he's not bad defensively.
[16:57] Like I just don't feel like he gets targeted one-on-one unless
[17:00] the team is already weak defensively.
[17:02] Yeah, and his defensive shortcomings.
[17:07] You mentioned Marcelo before, right?
[17:09] It's Marcelo's possession of awareness was 0.
[17:12] Marcelo must have been good at what we want at putting his foot
[17:17] in after he sees the whole action, but his defensive
[17:20] awareness was close to 0. I think much worse.
[17:24] Yeah, Francis much better at at that.
[17:27] Trent is Warsaw defending the attackers and reading the
[17:31] attackers body language. But then again, if Trent can
[17:35] just slow down the attacker, he's getting the help.
[17:38] At least in Madrid he's getting the help.
[17:40] And even if you look at our center backs, like available
[17:44] center backs, let's say that who's going to play on the right
[17:47] side? It's probably going to be a
[17:49] Rudiger militao. And I said, right, those are
[17:51] going to be like the guys that mostly are going to deploy it on
[17:54] the right side. What are you getting there?
[17:56] Aggressiveness, players that pull in, players that pull out
[18:00] if needed, players that are going to chase that.
[18:05] So Trump just needs to be able to slow it down.
[18:08] And then I think Fede, the pivot, Germany or the right aid
[18:14] if we want to call it, well, they're there.
[18:17] They're going to sort out the rest of it.
[18:19] I think that the team is going to be fine for as long as he can
[18:21] slow it down. That's all what he needs to do,
[18:24] slow it down, it's going to be covered.
[18:27] I see no problem with that on this team.
[18:29] At the very least, I think that he picked the perfect team in
[18:32] terms of squad composition to join.
[18:35] And well. I.
[18:36] Agree as well and just platforming his career.
[18:38] It was a great choice at a great time.
[18:40] Like you want to upgrade, this is where you come.
[18:43] Exactly, and we have Carval playing like at all time level,
[18:46] then get that injury. So now pretty much Carval is
[18:49] going to be fine, completely Venus back up and you're still
[18:54] going to get Carl. We don't know the state of Carl,
[18:56] we're sort of saying, but it's still going to be much better
[18:59] than Lucas even now. Literally, if you put him on
[19:02] field right now, Carl is going to be better because apparently
[19:05] cannot walk. So that's more than the
[19:08] productivity that Lucas is going to bring.
[19:10] So there is a huge difference to this theme.
[19:15] Again, we have spoken about the coach.
[19:19] You mentioned a little bit of the signing of a left center
[19:21] back that's going to solve a lot of problems with the ball on the
[19:26] build up, I mean, and the way of how the team progresses forward.
[19:30] But it's trend that's going to be that glue.
[19:32] So basically you're probably going to try to do what
[19:34] Liverpool of club did. Yeah, your left center back is
[19:40] pretty much just going to try and find trend as open as
[19:44] possible. Trent is so good at getting
[19:46] other space. If you get pressed high, Trent
[19:48] is going to kill that with one move.
[19:50] You just need a good snack from the back to find.
[19:53] Highline's the honestly, he's the Highline killer.
[19:55] He's the, the Bryan or the free gas.
[19:57] No, he's a Fabregas. Because like, to this day the
[20:00] only player I've seen who breaks the Highline from like 20-30
[20:03] meters into his own half was SESC.
[20:05] And like the most iconic moment was SESC for Antonio Conte's
[20:09] Chelsea 3/1. You remember when he played in
[20:11] the double pivot with Matic, he found Diego Costa going long.
[20:14] Trent is the closest I've got to that feeling in football, where
[20:17] from your half you can find anybody no matter where they
[20:20] are. I can't wait.
[20:22] I mean, we could build like the best transition offense, like
[20:25] one that actually competes with our twenty 10s teams now because
[20:28] we have this. Yeah, for Madrid fans is pretty
[20:31] much think of the way how Tony Cruz would switch the ball.
[20:34] Is this going more vertically? Much more vertically.
[20:38] Yeah, Is this going more vertically?
[20:39] So you're not going to need that.
[20:41] I'm not saying that the way how Cruz did it was bad.
[20:44] Of course, that's a great for recycling possession and safety
[20:46] of the team. But what I mean is that it's
[20:48] going to need a bare minimum, one less extra, a pass to get to
[20:53] the goal. So that's very likely going to
[20:55] up your goal numbers. Your creativity level is just
[21:01] going to be upped. Even if he's not directly
[21:04] getting those assists, which he might not, but he's going to get
[21:08] the team to make those happen. And that's exactly what we care
[21:12] about. It's a team sport.
[21:13] It's 11 players on a bench. I don't want to let Kine and ten
[21:17] others suffer. I want 11 players to play
[21:20] football. Some have to sacrifice.
[21:22] As I said, Boulder is going to be one of these guys, but he's
[21:25] also going to benefit from having Trent because Trent is
[21:29] going to hide some of the flaws that Valera has and probably
[21:32] amplify Valera's game because, well, let's say that you want to
[21:37] press Trump for some reason. Let's say that a team goes like,
[21:41] OK, we can't let this guy get the ball.
[21:43] Well, then Valerie is going to have all this faith in the world
[21:46] to just drive forward and get on his positions.
[21:49] And he's just like, you're going to get those quality moments at
[21:55] consistent level with trend because he's going to force the
[21:59] opponents to consistently have to think.
[22:02] We are just keep have them keep positional awareness at all
[22:06] times, which we currently don't go out.
[22:08] We make it all too easy for the opponents.
[22:11] Like if there was one annoying thing about Liverpool was the
[22:13] fact that Trent was a key piece of how much they made you think
[22:20] during the games. They just made you think more
[22:22] times, where are they going to move, what the next pattern is
[22:25] going to be, because they were never settled into that.
[22:28] Yes, the actions might have ended the same way, but then not
[22:32] settled until there's one way because you have a fully
[22:35] overlapping full back in Robertson on the other side,
[22:38] when you would have trend, just switch up to that.
[22:41] That could be your left winger, that could be Vinnie when we
[22:43] want. And now let's just think about
[22:45] that. Instead of Robertson, it's
[22:47] Vinnie who's getting the ball and he's 1V1 against the full
[22:51] back. So good luck to that full back.
[22:53] I hope you got enough a lot by the end of that action, because
[22:56] Vinnie doesn't Winnie without having to touch the ball a
[22:59] million times and getting in dangerous spaces.
[23:02] Cool, that's a dangerous thing. So again, he's not bringing it
[23:05] into the box on his own. Yeah.
[23:08] Of it like his performance against badminton, which I
[23:11] believe last season. I believe was Angelotti's best
[23:14] coach game last year when I know that we needed to settle goals.
[23:21] But I thought that Madrid were very front footed.
[23:24] We're very good at blocking the passing lanes.
[23:27] Yes, they did need a little bit of saving from the sample backs,
[23:30] but that's a normal. The team played well and we need
[23:34] put probably one of the better performances that I've seen in
[23:38] my life like Joshua Kinnick. Yeah, definitely.
[23:41] Hasn't played right back since that game.
[23:43] So that's the damage that Beanie can cause.
[23:46] Yeah, but that definitely excited to see Trent, Davinian
[23:49] and Bape. I'm still worried without a
[23:51] striker if I still think the angles get limited.
[23:53] You want, if you can give Trent the air and the ground, it's
[23:55] over like it's just broken if you.
[23:58] If. We if we could give him
[23:59] Cristiano Benzema Bale imagine but like.
[24:03] You could give him Jude. You could give him Jude.
[24:07] Jude is excellent at making those slave runs.
[24:10] If basically you just need proper quotient of Muppet drops,
[24:13] Jude goes up. You know, you, you didn't get
[24:16] that this season. Yeah.
[24:17] Yeah, June. And.
[24:19] Then Morici or Someone Like You mentioned off the.
[24:21] Bench. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you would.
[24:24] You're going to need that. You're going to need a number 9,
[24:27] in my opinion, to fully utilize it.
[24:30] Oh, imagine a pin tin A-Team. Sorry, pinned down La Liga at
[24:36] like 00 and the 70th minute and Trent is getting all the time in
[24:40] the world and you have like a big center on the box who can
[24:43] create separation like Elou did. That's not going to end up
[24:47] pretty good. So it's like it's a guaranteed
[24:49] win at that point if you're giving trend that much time and
[24:53] if they want to press trend. Yeah.
[24:55] And I just. Want to press?
[24:57] Yeah, Let. Me just get these stats here
[24:59] because we got to wrap up soon. Really it's this 64 I think the
[25:04] most ever by a defender. 13 single season assists in
[25:07] 20/19/20. He crossed 10 plus assists in
[25:10] 1819 and 19202122. I don't think any defenders even
[25:14] done that twice. 10 plus assists in the Premier League and then I
[25:18] think a record .26 assists per game.
[25:22] Or he just had one of the highest or if not the highest
[25:25] assist rate in Premier League history.
[25:27] And yeah this is ridiculous. He's at .28 assists for 90 now,
[25:33] the highest and then his expected assisted goals.
[25:36] He had .38 expected assisted goals in 2120.
[25:40] Two 99th percentile top 1% of full backs and I think that's
[25:46] like just best creator in Europe type numbers, so very high.
[25:50] Expected. Oh yeah, his career expected
[25:54] assisted goals is even higher .29 like this guy just creates
[25:58] more than even the assist reflect.
[26:00] And what else? Very high passes into final
[26:03] third, expected threat, progressive passes.
[26:07] I believe he is 8.51. So he covers the ground, he
[26:11] covers the distance. Yeah, 8.5 is pretty crazy for it
[26:14] right back. It's a lot, it's a lot.
[26:19] And 255 passes into the final third.
[26:23] Oh no, that was in 2024. Nevermind.
[26:26] And he has more assists than almost everyone who's coming to
[26:29] the Premier League since his debut and the only defender and
[26:34] and in those lists, obviously. But Long story short, like he's
[26:38] the best shot creating action creator, expected assist,
[26:41] expected threat, progressive passes from fullback we've seen
[26:44] in forever. And the guys who didn't like him
[26:47] just didn't have the assist. Like Cancello's like good
[26:50] creation, not like 10 assists per season, every season are
[26:55] like even Marcelo, great output. But if you go look, he wasn't
[26:58] even getting as many assists. He was creating a lot.
[27:00] He was like a secondary midfield style creator.
[27:04] Trent is like the primary guy from right back.
[27:07] I'm just so curious to see how it goes.
[27:09] Like, so you're saying we're pretty much going to be like
[27:12] Liverpool going forward? We're going to be built around
[27:14] Trent. We don't need a controller.
[27:16] And combined with our previous episode, you think Alonso's kind
[27:18] of kind of lean into this play a back four in that event.
[27:22] You think on the other side of the back four.
[27:23] That's why we're interested in someone like Carreras.
[27:25] Who can you think we're going to play conservative fullbacks?
[27:28] We're not. We're not going to go the gung
[27:29] ho fullbacks high and wide. The the Cristiano Benzema come
[27:33] in. It's going to be more wide
[27:34] wingers, deeper fullbacks, right?
[27:36] Yeah, yeah. I think that on the right side,
[27:39] you're going to get more of a verdict on the right.
[27:41] Slash bopid Jude filling in and on the left, I think that the
[27:47] lonzo is going to want to log Venus shoes as much as possible.
[27:51] So this team just simply turns into right heavy at the start
[27:55] and let's switch to the left to kind of finish things off
[27:59] because that's where a majority of the quality is coming from.
[28:02] But now they can do that. They actually can because Trent
[28:06] enables that. I'm just still stuck at that
[28:09] progressive passes. We're 90 because like David
[28:12] Alava on his season on his, the last season with Bayern Munich
[28:16] was at like 6.4. That dropped by Hall from the
[28:19] Ranchalotti, of course, that Anchalotti.
[28:21] But being higher than alibi, it's really took me at a shock.
[28:27] I didn't know that it was that. High.
[28:29] No that it was high. The ball was a 9.4 in the
[28:32] treble, but that was a shortened year, not the same.
[28:34] But yeah, but yeah, I mean, the season prior, yeah, I think it
[28:41] was at 6.8 per 90, something like that he was on.
[28:44] Was it 8 the year before he joined us?
[28:46] Then he bumps down to 4 1/2 like you say, and that's great.
[28:50] And he's, this is his lowest year, been low since he hasn't
[28:53] even hit four since the first year.
[28:54] So yeah. Yeah, on our first year we
[28:57] pretty much gave him a lot of buildable responsibilities and
[29:01] only four. So yeah, Trent, under coach like
[29:08] Alonzo, I think it's looking good.
[29:10] You're not gonna get these runs like Jeremy Frimpong, but you're
[29:14] getting a whole different package, which this is arguably
[29:21] the most excited that I've been for a signing since Luka Morris
[29:27] in 2012. So yeah, nice, nice.
[29:33] I'll say straight up, Trent was my dream.
[29:36] Pull up my Twitter. He'll get tweets from like five
[29:39] years ago at this point of me just begging for the guy to play
[29:42] for Madrid. And the day has come.
[29:44] So I'm really excited about it. Like he was my guy always.
[29:49] He's just way too good. Yeah, well.
[29:52] It's as simple as that. We are excited, Trent and Bapi
[29:56] and Jude and consecutive summers if if a player's on your wish
[29:58] list, we're probably, we're probably knocking on the door.
[30:01] So it's awesome to be a fan of this club when they're making
[30:04] the right moves in a summer where everything seems to be
[30:06] going the right direction. May not manifest immediately at
[30:08] the Club World Cup, but we'll find out.
