Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market. On this episode of Stock Movers: - Eli Lilly (LLY) is climbing in early trading after the drugmaker boosted its revenue guidance for the full year, following better-than-expected sales in the third quarter. - EBay (EBAY) shares jumped after the online auction company’s results and forecast were seen as underlining its strong execution and growth prospects. Wells Fargo upgraded the stock. - Caterpillar (CAT) shares are moving after it posted quarterly earnings that beat Wall Street expectations as demand for the company's power-generation equipment continued to drive sales. The company's power and energy segment has grown into its largest business by sales, driven by technology companies' need for infrastructure to meet AI's enormous electricity demand. [0:19] Speaker 3: There's like, what is it? Do you have 45 or
[0:21] Speaker 3: 46 stock movers today?
[0:23] Speaker 1: Today was so tough to whittle it down.
[0:25] Speaker 3: Pick the three and let's go. Stock movers, it's a podcast.
[0:28] Speaker 1: Let's start with Eli Lilly, ticker symbol LLY. Stock is up.
[0:32] Speaker 4: 4% pre-market, up 20% so far this year, raising its
[0:37] Speaker 4: full-year sales forecast. Demand for those blockbuster obesity and diabetes
[0:42] Speaker 4: drugs continuing to surge and helping beef up Eli Lilly's
[0:46] Speaker 4: bottom line. The drugmaker is now moving into new areas
[0:49] Speaker 4: like women's health, psychedelics. as it looks to turn its
[0:52] Speaker 4: current dominance in the industry into some lasting advantages. The
[0:57] Speaker 4: drugmaker now sees full-year profit of between $ 91 and $ 92 billion.
[1:02] Speaker 4: That is up from its previous outlook of between $ 85
[1:04] Speaker 4: and $ 87 billion. By the way, it's the third time
[1:07] Speaker 4: Eli Lilly has raised revenue guidance this year, so a
[1:09] Speaker 4: pretty enviable position for Eli Lilly.
[1:12] Speaker 1: Want to move on?
[1:14] Speaker 3: Let's move on.
[1:14] Speaker 1: Let's do eBay. You seem unimpressed by Eli Lilly. I
[1:17] Speaker 1: don't know.
[1:18] Speaker 3: I actually was raving about them the other day. Eli
[1:21] Speaker 3: Lilly folks revolutionized before Eli Lilly, 180 years ago, whatever.
[1:27] Speaker 3: You went into a pharmacy, it was all powders. Eli
[1:30] Speaker 3: Lilly figured out the gel cap thing. Like put the
[1:34] Speaker 3: powder in something. Amazing. Which was revolutionary.
[1:37] Speaker 1: Absolutely.
[1:38] Speaker 3: Okay.
[1:38] Speaker 1: Now I'm satisfied.
[1:39] Speaker 3: Good.
[1:39] Speaker 1: So let's move to eBay. Ticker symbol E-B-A-Y. Up nearly 6%.
[1:43] Speaker 4: It has been ripping higher this year, guys. Up 35%
[1:47] Speaker 4: so far this year. So recording higher quarterly sales. Customers
[1:52] Speaker 4: flocking to the e-commerce platform to buy what? Collectibles, trading cards,
[1:57] Speaker 4: sports memorabilia, coins.
[1:59] Speaker 1: Back in vogue.
[2:02] Speaker 4: And we also saw a number of analysts upgrade this
[2:05] Speaker 4: stock today. Got an upgrade at Wells Fargo, Barclays as well.
[2:09] Speaker 4: Web Bush raising the price target to 153 a share,
[2:12] Speaker 4: up from 137 for eBay.
[2:14] Speaker 3: There's some of that going on. I saw a whole
[2:16] Speaker 3: bunch of Microsoft upgrades as well.
[2:19] Speaker 1: Oh, I bet. Today, after all the news coming out
[2:20] Speaker 1: of Microsoft.
[2:21] Speaker 3: Yep.
[2:21] Speaker 1: All right.
[2:22] Speaker 4: And then let's talk a little Caterpillar, C-A-T, ticker symbol there.
[2:27] Speaker 4: So the stock has really taken it on the chin,
[2:29] Speaker 4: down about 10% last I checked. The company posted earnings
[2:33] Speaker 4: that only modestly beat expectations. The company reported adjusted earnings
[2:38] Speaker 4: of $ 7.
[2:38] Speaker 1: 20 a share.
[2:39] Speaker 4: Overall revenue of 20.6. So that was just above consensus.
[2:42] Speaker 4: So again, a really good example of a company beating,
[2:45] Speaker 4: but not beating, you know, the highest bar revenue like this.
[2:49] Speaker 3: Yes.
[2:50] Speaker 4: Barely beating Caterpillar's power and energy segment, which builds generators
[2:54] Speaker 4: has grown into the company's largest business by sales. This
[2:58] Speaker 4: is eclipsing those big yellow excavators because it too now Caterpillar,
[3:03] Speaker 4: an industrial giant in on the AI trade.
[3:06] Speaker 3: I can't. Did you have Taka toys?
[3:08] Speaker 2: No, sure.
[3:09] Speaker 3: They were real back then.
[3:10] Speaker 1: They were metal.
[3:10] Speaker 3: They were metal. Like real.
[3:12] Speaker 1: You could really hurt yourself if you threw it at
[3:14] Speaker 1: a sibling or something.
[3:15] Speaker 3: No.
[3:16] Speaker 2: Oh, no.
[3:16] Speaker 3: The older brother would throw the Taka toy truck at
[3:19] Speaker 3: his sisters. You're kidding.
[3:22] Speaker 1: Go figure. It's a great exclusive.
