[0:12] Speaker 2: in the stock market. Harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.
[0:16] Speaker 3: Let's take a look at some stocks on the move today.
[0:18] Speaker 3: I'm Karen Moskow. We're joined now by Bloomberg's Dan Curtis. Dan,
[0:22] Speaker 3: good morning. Hey, we've been talking a lot about the
[0:24] Speaker 3: surprise election results in Brazil. Markets are reacting. What are
[0:27] Speaker 3: you seeing this morning?
[0:29] Speaker 2: Morning.
[0:30] Speaker 1: That's right. There's a lot of Brazilian linked stocks trading
[0:32] Speaker 1: in the pre-market. I'll go through a lot. There's a
[0:35] Speaker 1: lot of red on the screen there. But yeah, as
[0:37] Speaker 1: you've been talking about all morning, Lula won another term.
[0:40] Speaker 1: That's after the first round saw Bolsonaro, which I think
[0:42] Speaker 1: the politically friendly way of saying it is he's generally
[0:46] Speaker 1: considered more market friendly. So he lost despite the first
[0:50] Speaker 1: round seeing him beat out Lula. So a bit of
[0:52] Speaker 1: a surprise. Markets are quickly repricing this morning. There's a
[0:55] Speaker 1: lot of names in the red. I'll go through just
[0:57] Speaker 1: a few. So one of the most traded Brazilian names,
[1:00] Speaker 1: New Holdings, ticker NU, that's down 22% in the pre-market.
[1:06] Speaker 1: It's a digital bank and fintech company. XP Inc., ticker XP,
[1:10] Speaker 1: is down nearly 50% right now. It's down 47.4% in
[1:15] Speaker 1: the pre-market. It's an investment management company. That one really
[1:18] Speaker 1: getting hit. And also keeping my eye on MercadoLibre. That's
[1:23] Speaker 1: down 9%, not so bad. It's basically called the Amazon
[1:26] Speaker 1: of Latin America, which gives you a good sense of
[1:29] Speaker 1: what they do. So a lot of just these Brazilian-linked
[1:33] Speaker 1: stocks really tumbling in the pre-market today.
[1:36] Speaker 2: All right.
[1:36] Speaker 3: Well, outside of the Brazil election, we're looking at Tesla,
[1:40] Speaker 3: and that stock is gaining this morning.
[1:42] Speaker 1: It's up 2% after it was upgraded to overweight from
[1:45] Speaker 1: equal weight at Barclays. Analyst Dan Levy notes the potential
[1:50] Speaker 1: of a SpaceX merger. We've been hearing this talked about
[1:52] Speaker 1: a lot, and even last week, BNP Paribas upgraded, saying
[1:55] Speaker 1: that the merger potential was the sole reason they saw
[1:58] Speaker 1: it as more attractive. But that said, Barclays also noting
[2:05] Speaker 1: a few other points. They say there's an improved trajectory
[2:08] Speaker 1: in the EV market for this company and also a
[2:12] Speaker 1: possible inflection point for robo-taxis. Overall, though, the stock has
[2:16] Speaker 1: 31 buys, 24 holds, 5 sells. So we're anywhere from
[2:19] Speaker 1: consensus on the stock, but we're seeing a bit more
[2:21] Speaker 1: upside gain this morning.
[2:23] Speaker 3: All right. And there's some neocloud movement as well, right,
[2:25] Speaker 3: after we heard from Elon Musk?
[2:27] Speaker 1: That's right. So the boss of Tesla is pressuring neoclouds
[2:30] Speaker 1: this morning. So he took to X. Musk took to X.
[2:34] Speaker 1: He claimed that SpaceX had closed a $ 40 billion debt
[2:37] Speaker 1: deal to pay for chips. Sources did push back, saying
[2:40] Speaker 1: that conversations remain ongoing. A deal hasn't been priced. But
[2:43] Speaker 1: while he was talking about that, he also went on
[2:45] Speaker 1: to say the debt markets have nearly shut off all
[2:48] Speaker 1: funding for companies that don't have substantial revenues independent of
[2:52] Speaker 1: data centers. So that's really hitting the neoclouds, which are
[2:54] Speaker 1: these basically AI-focused data centers. Musk literally said, quote, that
[3:00] Speaker 1: means the 200-plus neoclouds are going to see some guppy-level
[3:03] Speaker 1: death and consolidation. So this is a lot of pressure
[3:06] Speaker 1: on the names. Stocks like CoreWeave down 4%, Nebius down 3.5%,
[3:10] Speaker 1: Applied Digital down 2.6%. And he's also saying, Musk said
[3:14] Speaker 1: he wouldn't come to the rescue. SpaceX wouldn't acquire any neoclouds,
[3:18] Speaker 1: calling it pointless.
[3:19] Speaker 2: All right.
[3:19] Speaker 3: Can you do a 20-second update on surgery partners?
[3:22] Speaker 1: Absolutely. So keeping an eye on this one, shares are
[3:25] Speaker 1: up 23%. Bon Secure's Mercy Health is in late-stage talks
[3:29] Speaker 1: to buy a majority stake in surgery partners. That's according
[3:31] Speaker 1: to the FT. And the deal, potentially $ 20 a share.
[3:34] Speaker 1: It's just over $ 19 a share in the pre-market. So
[3:38] Speaker 1: there's some deal news to keep an eye on.
