Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market. On this episode of Stock Movers: - United Parcel Service (UPS) shares are moving after it reported US package revenue for the third quarter that beat the average analyst estimate. - JetBlue (JBLU) shares are rallying after the carrier reiterated its expectation to deliver at least $1 in earnings per share and positive free cash flow in 2028. The shares closed Monday at a record low as the airline grapples with cash burn and elevated oil prices. - Whirlpool (WHR) is dropping after the appliance maker cut its revenue forecast for the full year to below Wall Street’s consensus. The company reported adjusted diluted earnings per share and revenue that also missed the average analyst estimates. - Celestica (CLS) shares jumped after the electronics-manufacturer boosted revenue guidance for the full year, coming ahead of estimates. Celestica’s third-quarter adjusted earnings also beat the average analyst expectation. Analysts note meaningfully higher customer demand through 2028. [0:02] Speaker 1: Bloomberg Audio Studios, podcasts, radio, news.
[0:08] Speaker 2: The Stock Movers Report, your roundup of companies making moves
[0:12] Speaker 2: in the stock market, harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.
[0:16] Speaker 1: Let's take a look at some stocks on the move today.
[0:18] Speaker 1: I'm Nathan Hager, joined by Bloomberg's Dan Curtis with breaking news,
[0:22] Speaker 1: crossing the Bloomberg terminal as we speak. Earnings from Coca-Cola.
[0:27] Speaker 1: Good morning, Dan.
[0:28] Speaker 3: Good morning, Nathan. Shares of Coca-Cola under KO are up
[0:31] Speaker 3: about four tenths of a percent as the markets digest
[0:34] Speaker 3: those headlines that have just been released. Main things to
[0:38] Speaker 3: read out from this third quarter comparable earnings of 91
[0:41] Speaker 3: cents that beat estimates of 88 cents per share. It
[0:45] Speaker 3: also looks like overall companies guiding slightly higher on full
[0:50] Speaker 3: year adjusted organic revenue. It's saying at least 5%. It
[0:53] Speaker 3: saw about 5%, so that's a very moderate increase there.
[0:57] Speaker 3: And it's also saying comparable EPS of at least 11%.
[1:00] Speaker 3: It saw 9% to 10% growth earlier. So at the headline,
[1:04] Speaker 3: it looks like a bottom line B, and it looks
[1:06] Speaker 3: like growth outlook is getting lifted. Shares are holding steady.
[1:10] Speaker 3: We'll just keep an eye on that in case some
[1:11] Speaker 3: more volume picks up on the news.
[1:13] Speaker 1: Okay, so some more individual shares are moving as well
[1:16] Speaker 1: on the back of their earnings. But we got to
[1:18] Speaker 1: talk about General Motors making some news this morning as well.
[1:22] Speaker 1: Is GM a tech company now, Dan?
[1:24] Speaker 3: I mean, it might get some tech money from what
[1:27] Speaker 3: it's doing. The ticker GM is up 2%. As the
[1:31] Speaker 3: company said, it's going to move from the NASDAQ to
[1:33] Speaker 3: the NYSE. That's going to take place basically November 17th
[1:36] Speaker 3: with the last day trading on the NYSE of the 16th.
[1:40] Speaker 3: And that's really, you know, as you said, it's about
[1:43] Speaker 3: seems to be about the tech money. So because it's
[1:45] Speaker 3: moving to the Nasdaq, it is going to potentially be
[1:48] Speaker 3: eligible to be on the Nasdaq 100 index. A lot
[1:51] Speaker 3: of passive money follows that when they want tech exposure. Now,
[1:55] Speaker 3: we call this a tech heavy index. It is. But technically,
[1:58] Speaker 3: the Nasdaq 100 is basically the hundred largest companies on
[2:02] Speaker 3: the Nasdaq. And so this company will likely get included
[2:05] Speaker 3: in there. It will get some passive flows. I did
[2:07] Speaker 3: a little bit of math at $ 64 billion in market cap.
[2:11] Speaker 3: GM won't be the biggest member. It's likely to be
[2:13] Speaker 3: in the bottom quartile of the index by weight. But
[2:16] Speaker 3: this follows Walmart. So last year, Walmart made the switch.
[2:20] Speaker 3: It's now the 11th biggest stock in the NASDAQ 100.
[2:23] Speaker 3: So it seems like more companies are looking for kind
[2:25] Speaker 3: of this passive tech flow that the NASDAQ 100 gets.
[2:28] Speaker 1: Very interesting. Let's get back to some of the earnings
[2:32] Speaker 1: we did hear, not just from Coca-Cola this morning, but
[2:35] Speaker 1: also UPS. Looks like pretty solid results there.
[2:40] Speaker 3: Solid results, and the stock is up about 1% as
[2:44] Speaker 3: a result of that. The company is raising its revenue
[2:47] Speaker 3: guidance for the year to about $ 92. 6 billion today. It's
[2:53] Speaker 3: about a $ 1. 5 billion increase, and it suggests strong prices
[2:58] Speaker 3: and demand through the holiday season, as that figure also
[3:01] Speaker 3: came in above Wall Street estimates. The third quarter top
[3:04] Speaker 3: and bottom line figures beat. They were stronger than expected.
[3:07] Speaker 3: And this company has been working on recovering from a
[3:09] Speaker 3: multi-year stretch of muted demand and shipping following that massive
[3:13] Speaker 3: post-COVID boom. The stock's down over 50% from the 2022 peak,
[3:17] Speaker 3: but it's starting to show signs.
[3:19] Speaker 2: Of a turnaround. The Stock Movers Report from Bloomberg Radio.
