Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market. On this episode of Stock Movers: Listen for comprehensive cross-platform coverage of the US market close as heard on Bloomberg Television, Bloomberg Radio, and YouTube with Romaine Bostick, Jess Menton, Carol Massar and Tim Stenovec. - SpaceX (SPCX) aims to secure a minimum of 80,000 cell sites across the US, and it’s in talks with at least one major cellular infrastructure company to reach that goal, according to people familiar with the matter. The agreements would solidify the rocket and satellite giant’s path toward building a fourth nationwide wireless carrier, said the people, who asked to not be identified because the discussions are private. One of the companies they’re in talks with is Crown Castle (CCI), which, along with American Tower (AMT) are among the largest owners of cellular towers. Shares of both rallied in Friday trading. - Meanwhile, shares of cell carriers like T-Mobile (TMUS), Verizon (VZ) and AT&T (T) fell in response to reports of SpaceX's plans that would make it the fourth nationwide wireless carrier. - JetBlue (JBLU)’s already difficult year took a dramatic turn for the worse Thursday, with a sharp selloff in its securities signaling mounting investor doubts about the airline’s financial outlook. Ahead of next week’s third-quarter earnings report, usually a bright spot for airlines, JetBlue’s stock fell nearly 10% to close at $2.65, its lowest level since going public in 2002. [0:06] Speaker 2: News. This is the closing bell on the Stock Movers Report.
[0:13] Speaker 2: The companies making moves at the close of U.S. trading
[0:16] Speaker 2: with Carol Master, Tim Stenevek, Romaine Bostic, and Katie Greifeld.
[0:22] Speaker 4: Let's go to some of the individual gainers in the session.
[0:27] Speaker 1: Let's see what you got. Get ready, everybody.
[0:30] Speaker 5: All right.
[0:30] Speaker 1: I'm going to talk fast so that he can't interrupt.
[0:32] Speaker 4: All right. So we've got to talk about these tower
[0:35] Speaker 4: companies gaining and wireless carriers actually sliding after SpaceX.
[0:39] Speaker 3: All right.
[0:39] Speaker 1: I'm setting you up, Mr.
[0:40] Speaker 4: Stenevek. After SpaceX was said to be targeting 80,000 or
[0:43] Speaker 4: more U.S. cell sites with talks underway with at least
[0:46] Speaker 4: one infrastructure owner. And one of the companies is in
[0:49] Speaker 4: talks is Crown Castle, which along with American Towers and
[0:52] Speaker 4: Vertical Bridge are among the largest owners of cellular infrastructure. Towers,
[0:56] Speaker 4: when asked on a Wednesday earnings conference call whether Crown
[0:59] Speaker 4: Castle is discussing leases with SpaceX or Amazon or other
[1:02] Speaker 4: satellite-based telecom, the CEO said, you can assume that we're.
[1:06] Speaker 1: Talking to all parties.
[1:07] Speaker 4: He declined to discuss specific customer details. So you've got
[1:11] Speaker 4: Crown Castle up 9%. You've got American Tower up 4%.
[1:14] Speaker 1: And then you've got... SBA communications, a gain of about 3.6%.
[1:20] Speaker 3: All right.
[1:20] Speaker 1: The AI era, all the cybersecurity concerns.
[1:23] Speaker 4: We're going to go over to a new board that
[1:25] Speaker 4: come with it are here. And so cybersecurity stocks continue
[1:29] Speaker 4: to rally among the standouts. Palo Alto Networks up 7.2%,
[1:33] Speaker 4: number three gainer in the S & P, number two
[1:35] Speaker 4: in the NASDAQ 100. CrowdStrike up more than 8%, the
[1:39] Speaker 4: number one gainer in the NASDAQ 100. And then BUG.
[1:43] Speaker 4: It's the Global X Cybersecurity ETF. I had to throw
[1:45] Speaker 4: that one in there because I love it. The ticker
[1:48] Speaker 4: up about 5%. So we're all worried, certainly, about the
[1:52] Speaker 4: PHP programming language and what this means.
[1:56] Speaker 5: What is PHP, Carol Massey?
[1:57] Speaker 1: PHP, I don't know, but it underpins much of the Internet. About,
[2:02] Speaker 1: I think, 75%, 76% or something we heard. It's in
[2:06] Speaker 1: the internet. You should know about this. You mean you
[2:08] Speaker 1: haven't talked about it on your show, Jess?
[2:10] Speaker 3: Hypertext preprocessor, guys.
[2:12] Speaker 5: Come on.
[2:12] Speaker 1: Oh, that was a Google search.
[2:14] Speaker 3: No, come on.
[2:15] Speaker 1: That was a Google search by the man who got
[2:17] Speaker 1: a haircut this morning.
[2:18] Speaker 2: Please.
[2:18] Speaker 3: I'm not Googling anything. I can see my hands right here.
[2:21] Speaker 3: Can you not lean in like that?
[2:25] Speaker 2: Okay.
[2:25] Speaker 3: There's one more, one more gainer that Carol has before decliners.
[2:27] Speaker 3: I thought she was done.
[2:29] Speaker 1: I'm just taking, no, that's only six.
[2:30] Speaker 4: Okay.
[2:31] Speaker 1: That was too bored.
[2:31] Speaker 3: I'm just going to go back and read.
[2:33] Speaker 5: It's Friday.
[2:34] Speaker 2: Wow.
[2:34] Speaker 5: All right.
[2:39] Speaker 1: It's about like being around my six siblings.
[2:42] Speaker 4: Energy stocks, Schlumberger, an outperformer up 7%.
[2:46] Speaker 1: We know what the story is. And I'm not even
[2:49] Speaker 1: going to say anything more. Figure it out for yourself. Oil, fire?
[2:52] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[2:52] Speaker 5: Okay.
[2:52] Speaker 4: All right.
[2:53] Speaker 1: Take it away, everybody.
[2:54] Speaker 4: All right.
[2:54] Speaker 3: I'm so glad that you went through those tower companies, Carol.
[2:56] Speaker 5: Leave me alone.
[2:57] Speaker 3: Because the tower company's gains are the wireless provider's losses.
[3:01] Speaker 3: T-Mobile down 7.7%, Verizon down 1.2%, AT & T down 8%,
[3:06] Speaker 3: all for that news. After we learned yesterday from Bloomberg
[3:09] Speaker 3: News that SpaceX was said to be targeting 80,000 or
[3:12] Speaker 3: more U.S.
[3:12] Speaker 5: Cell sites.
[3:13] Speaker 3: So those are some of the lead decliners in the
[3:15] Speaker 3: S & P 500. But the biggest decliner in the
[3:17] Speaker 3: S & P 500 today... bloom energy shares falling the
[3:20] Speaker 3: most intraday going back to july this after the company
[3:22] Speaker 3: reported results analysts said it was the negative cash flow
[3:26] Speaker 3: from operations city said the stock was quote crowded before
[3:29] Speaker 3: the print it's still up more than 100 so far
[3:31] Speaker 3: this year but down the most in the s &
[3:33] Speaker 3: p 500 and this one's for romaine because i know
[3:37] Speaker 3: romaine you're a big fan of jet blue oh this
[3:40] Speaker 3: was this was one that i wanted to talk about
[3:42] Speaker 3: yesterday have they gotten better Well, it depends on if
[3:45] Speaker 3: you're talking about the bonds, the company's stock, or the
[3:50] Speaker 3: actual product. People love the product. I love mint. The
[3:53] Speaker 3: challenge is that this company has so much debt. And
[3:57] Speaker 3: it lives in this area where it's not a budget carrier,
[4:01] Speaker 3: and it's not one of the big three carriers. And
[4:03] Speaker 3: it has just struggled. for years. JetBlue shares closing at
[4:06] Speaker 3: a record low, trading at 263 right now. Shares down
[4:10] Speaker 3: again today by close to a percent. Yeah, and I'm
[4:12] Speaker 3: actually fascinated.
[4:13] Speaker 5: Somebody who does actually fly JetBlue a lot, and I'll
[4:15] Speaker 5: just say this. I am a little biased.
[4:17] Speaker 3: I do like them. But yeah, I do agree.
[4:18] Speaker 5: I mean, when you fly other airlines, particularly like Delta
[4:21] Speaker 5: and United and not so much American. You see the
[4:23] Speaker 5: changes that they've made and the improvements that they make.
[4:26] Speaker 5: You actually aren't all that mystified as to why investors
[4:29] Speaker 5: might have soured a little bit on JetBlue. Maybe they
[4:33] Speaker 5: can try to turn things around there. Meanwhile, not much
[4:36] Speaker 5: of a turnaround when it comes to the yield space.
[4:38] Speaker 5: We're actually lower again on the week. You're seeing yields
[4:42] Speaker 5: higher on the day, but Really, we talk about that
[4:44] Speaker 5: huge drop that we saw yesterday, that 15, 16 basis
[4:48] Speaker 5: point drop on the benchmark indices, the 10-year yield lower
[4:52] Speaker 5: for a third straight week, your two-year yield lower for
[4:54] Speaker 5: a fourth straight week. And that is the setup, of course,
[4:56] Speaker 5: into the Fed meeting, which starts next Tuesday. The Stock
