Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market. On this episode of Stock Movers: - ExxonMobil (XOM) shares are moving after it reported earnings this morning. Chevron (CVX) shares are as well after Exxon and Chevron both beat earnings estimates on strong refining - Crypto related stocks are lower after Binance suffered a $6.3 billion hack, the largest to hit the digital-asset industry, and has suspended all withdrawals. Bitcoin, Coinebase (COIN), and Circle (CRCL) are among those moving lower. - Amazon (AMZN) and Intel (INTC) are in the red this morning after Amazon reported greater capital spending than anticipated and the slowest growth in the core e-commerce business in three years. Intel's revenue forecast missed analysts' estimates, hurt by demand for PC processors and supply-chain problems with data center components. - Reddit (RDDT) shares are sinking on plans to limit access to its online forums to get users to register for accounts and deepen engagement. Reddit executives are willing to sacrifice some of the platform's reach to engage a smaller but more engaged audience with insights that will be valuable to advertisers. [0:08] Speaker 2: The Stock Movers Report, your roundup of companies making moves
[0:12] Speaker 2: in the stock market, harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.
[0:15] Speaker 1: Let's take a look at some stocks on the move today.
[0:18] Speaker 1: I'm Nathan Hager, joined by Bloomberg's Dan Curtis, as the
[0:22] Speaker 1: earnings focus, to some extent, moves from big tech to
[0:26] Speaker 1: big oil. We'll get to the tech story in a moment.
[0:28] Speaker 1: But we did hear from ExxonMobil and Chevron. Rising oil
[0:33] Speaker 1: prices seem to be paying off.
[0:35] Speaker 3: Good morning. Good morning, Nathan. That's right.
[0:37] Speaker 4: I don't think it's any surprise that these companies are
[0:39] Speaker 4: doing quite well. And in the pre-market, they're both up 1.5%,
[0:43] Speaker 4: both under XOM ticker and CVX for Chevron. Both companies
[0:49] Speaker 4: beating profits and both posting record refining profits. That's off
[0:53] Speaker 4: that huge boom in gasoline and diesel, so converting crude
[0:57] Speaker 4: into the refined products. really adding to these companies. So
[1:01] Speaker 4: it's been a stellar year for these companies. They're both
[1:03] Speaker 4: up 50% year to date. It's so much on this
[1:06] Speaker 4: background of the higher crude market. Something of note from
[1:10] Speaker 4: the earnings, though, Chevron noted that Venezuela is, quote, immediately
[1:14] Speaker 4: accretive and free cash flow positive. So been kind of
[1:17] Speaker 4: digging into that company to see when Venezuela will start
[1:20] Speaker 4: to pay off.
[1:21] Speaker 3: And it looks like it has for that company.
[1:23] Speaker 1: Okay, well, we'll get to more of the earnings in
[1:25] Speaker 1: a moment, but I got to ask how crypto-facing stocks
[1:29] Speaker 1: are doing after the biggest hack in the space in
[1:32] Speaker 1: history for Binance.
[1:34] Speaker 3: These are very much under pressure.
[1:36] Speaker 4: So right now, Bitcoin's down about 1.5% on the day,
[1:39] Speaker 4: but a lot of the Bitcoin and crypto names are
[1:41] Speaker 4: down even more. So Coinbase down 5%, Circle Internet down 6%,
[1:46] Speaker 4: and Strategy down 6% as well. As a lot of
[1:49] Speaker 4: this space has come to a halt with Binance basically
[1:52] Speaker 4: suspending all withdrawals. The company itself did pledge to cover losses,
[1:58] Speaker 4: but it seems like there's been some massive halts in
[2:00] Speaker 4: the space, and that is showing up in these stocks.
[2:03] Speaker 1: And we should say that Binance just put out a
[2:05] Speaker 1: post on X saying that it has begun recovering affected
[2:09] Speaker 1: assets following this hack. So we'll continue monitoring that. Of course,
[2:13] Speaker 1: we continue to monitor big tech stocks, some of the
[2:16] Speaker 1: latest that have reported earnings, but you have to. when
[2:19] Speaker 1: you see a massive move to the downside for Intel, Dan.
[2:23] Speaker 3: That's right.
[2:24] Speaker 4: This stock is losing a quarter of its value this morning,
[2:28] Speaker 4: down 26% in the pre-market. That's as the company sees
[2:32] Speaker 4: fourth quarter sales of $ 15 to $ 16 billion. That is
[2:35] Speaker 4: well shy of the average analyst estimate of $ 17 billion.
[2:40] Speaker 4: The company is struggling with PC slump as shortage of
[2:43] Speaker 4: memory from the AI trade is pushing up prices of
[2:46] Speaker 4: computers significantly. And the company's data center unit, which would
[2:49] Speaker 4: normally get all this money from AI, it's underperforming from
[2:54] Speaker 4: its potential due to shortages of raw materials and a
[2:57] Speaker 4: shutdown of a factory in Israel. So this company really
[3:00] Speaker 4: taking it on the chin this morning. It's also weighing
[3:02] Speaker 4: down other computer companies. So if you take a look
[3:04] Speaker 4: at a company like Dell, they make computers, obviously. HP,
[3:09] Speaker 4: those shares are down 10% as well in sympathy with
[3:12] Speaker 4: what Intel is saying around the computer space.
[3:16] Speaker 1: I guess kind of a similar story for Amazon in
[3:18] Speaker 1: terms of just the stock getting punished today.
[3:21] Speaker 3: Absolutely.
[3:21] Speaker 4: So this stock is down 7% in the pre-market, and
[3:24] Speaker 4: this is really coming down to spending, which is something
[3:26] Speaker 4: we're focusing on. But markets are also looking for return
[3:30] Speaker 4: on that spending.
[3:31] Speaker 3: So Amazon came out and said.
[3:32] Speaker 4: It spent $ 77 billion in CapEx. That's nearly $ 20 billion
[3:37] Speaker 4: more than estimates. It's forecasting $ 220 billion total spend this year,
[3:41] Speaker 4: but its e-commerce business grew 2%, slowest pace in a while.
[3:46] Speaker 3: So that stock taking it on the chin as well.
