[0:02] Speaker 1: Bloomberg Audio Studios Podcasts Radio News The Stock Movers Report,
[0:10] Speaker 1: your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market,
[0:13] Speaker 1: harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.
[0:15] Speaker 2: Let's take a look at some of the stocks on
[0:17] Speaker 2: the move. We can do that with Bloomberg's Alexis Christopherson.
[0:20] Speaker 1: Alexis, what are you looking at?
[0:22] Speaker 2: I am looking at Verizon today. So a bit of
[0:25] Speaker 2: a puzzle here. The stock is down nearly 1%, but
[0:28] Speaker 2: it did boost its full year outlook. It's continuing to
[0:32] Speaker 2: attract new customers for its post-paid phone service. What does
[0:35] Speaker 2: that mean? That means you use up all your data,
[0:37] Speaker 2: your texting, your phone, and then you pay your bill
[0:40] Speaker 2: at the end of the billing cycle. That's post-paid. So
[0:42] Speaker 2: Verizon gained a net 406,000 post-paid phone connections in the
[0:47] Speaker 2: latest quarter, the most in five years. CEO Dan Schulman, who, remember,
[0:52] Speaker 2: used to be CEO over at PayPal, said the company
[0:54] Speaker 2: is gaining loyal, high-value customers as it's shifting away from
[0:57] Speaker 2: those heavy subsidies it needed to offer to focus on
[1:01] Speaker 2: other offerings like extended loyalty program. It also has this
[1:04] Speaker 2: thing called Simplicity Plan. which it rolled out earlier this year. Now,
[1:08] Speaker 2: I don't know if this is what's tripping up investors today,
[1:10] Speaker 2: but Verizon signed a deal valued at more than $ 2
[1:13] Speaker 2: billion with Amazon Web Services to support the infrastructure needed
[1:17] Speaker 2: for agentic and generative AI workloads. They did a similar
[1:21] Speaker 2: deal with Alphabet's Google for more than a billion dollars
[1:25] Speaker 2: earlier this year. So I don't know how Wall Street's
[1:28] Speaker 2: viewing these deals, but the stock is under a little
[1:31] Speaker 2: bit of pressure today. Yeah, and a lot of those
[1:33] Speaker 2: wireless carriers, especially last week, came under pressure on SpaceX's
[1:37] Speaker 2: push into the wireless market, too.
[1:38] Speaker 1: So not only just Verizon, but AT & T, T-Mobile.
[1:41] Speaker 1: So that's an interesting perspective.
[1:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, increased competition. Sure. All right, we're going to move
[1:46] Speaker 2: over to Brazil. Go south here because U.S. listed shares
[1:49] Speaker 2: of Brazilian companies and those exposed to the country are slumping.
[1:53] Speaker 2: After President Lula surprised the markets to come from behind
[1:56] Speaker 2: to win a runoff election. I know I had to
[1:58] Speaker 2: look at that headline crossover a couple of times. I'm like,
[2:00] Speaker 2: am I reading this right? We all thought it was
[2:02] Speaker 2: going to be. Well, we but the polls were showing
[2:04] Speaker 2: Bolsonaro the winner and he was sort of seen as
[2:07] Speaker 2: the more fiscally sound candidate. So now you've got shares
[2:11] Speaker 2: of companies like PagSeguro. down 34% pre-market. NU Holdings down 26%. MercadoLibre.
[2:18] Speaker 2: Love that company.
[2:19] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[2:19] Speaker 2: Do you use it, the online platform? Somebody pitched it
[2:21] Speaker 2: to me 12, 13 years ago. I bought it, stock ripped.
[2:25] Speaker 2: It was a good one. So you don't necessarily use
[2:27] Speaker 2: the platform, but you hold the stock. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[2:29] Speaker 1: Okay.
[2:29] Speaker 2: So well, it's down 14% today. The Royale also, just
[2:32] Speaker 2: want to throw that in there. It's down about 8% here.
[2:35] Speaker 2: We're They're saying that the stock market in Brazil could
[2:39] Speaker 2: open with circuit breakers, you know, ready to fire because
[2:42] Speaker 2: of a big drop there. Why are political polls so bad?
[2:46] Speaker 1: I mean, it's not just in Brazil. It's here every time.
[2:48] Speaker 2: It's been going on for a while, too.
[2:50] Speaker 1: They're so bad.
[2:51] Speaker 2: How can they, like, AI fix that? Or, you know,
[2:54] Speaker 2: chat GPT, can you give me a good time?
[2:57] Speaker 1: Yeah. Anyway, all right.
[2:59] Speaker 2: Surgery Partners. This stock is soaring 24%. There's a report
[3:03] Speaker 2: in the Financial Times that Bon Secours' Mercy Health is
[3:07] Speaker 2: in late-stage talks to buy a majority stake in this
[3:10] Speaker 2: surgical care provider, which, by the way, is backed by
[3:12] Speaker 2: Bain Capital. So, Bone Secure's partial takeover of surgery partners
[3:17] Speaker 2: would value the group at about $ 20 a share, and
[3:21] Speaker 2: the potential transaction could be announced as early as today. Recently, though...
[3:25] Speaker 2: You know, the company said they didn't want to be
[3:27] Speaker 2: taken private. So we'll see what happens with this deal, though.
[3:31] Speaker 2: Bon Secours runs about 47 hospitals, generates $ 14 billion in
[3:35] Speaker 2: revenue last year. And also just another deal here on
[3:39] Speaker 2: this Monday. Range Resources, ticker symbol RRC, rising 12%. EQT
[3:45] Speaker 2: agreed to buy the energy firm. It's an all-stock transaction.
[3:48] Speaker 2: They want to create a combined natural gas company with
[3:51] Speaker 2: a pro forma enterprise value over $ 50 billion. Shares of EQT, though,
[3:57] Speaker 2: are coming under a little bit of pressure here, down
[3:58] Speaker 2: about 4%.
