Far too often, the blame for financial fraud is directed at the victims rather than the criminals. We say things like “he fell for a romance scam” when in reality, a criminal targeted, manipulated, and exploited this person. There is currently a movement to change the narrative around financial fraud by eliminating victim-blaming language. Changing the narrative empowers victims to contact the authorities and seek support.
