[0:00] Hi, everyone. Welcome back to the This Is How She Does It podcast.
[0:04] I am actually really excited that I'm trying something a little different and new for you.
[0:09] I have a special three-part series that I want to try out where I'll be doing
[0:14] the next three episodes as solo episodes and sharing a little bit more about
[0:19] my own personal development journey.
[0:22] So when I first started this podcast, my intent was to interview working moms
[0:26] and do some of these solo episodes as well, where I could also share more about,
[0:32] you know, my own personal journey and struggles and some of the things that
[0:36] have helped me along the way,
[0:38] in addition to those working mom interviews where I'm learning from other people
[0:43] what works for them and how they're able to do it.
[0:47] You know, juggling home life and work life.
[0:49] So now as I kind of you
[0:53] know sit back in this time of we're entering into
[0:57] the fall season the kids have gone back to school I
[1:01] was just reflecting the other day how grateful I'm happy right now in this season
[1:06] of my life so my son is in fourth grade he is nine and a half years old he has
[1:13] really like found his groove he's doing really well socially and at school,
[1:20] and he just started on the football
[1:22] team which really seems to be a great fit for
[1:25] him and you know for him
[1:29] he's someone who we kind of struggled with
[1:32] in the beginning because he was so shy
[1:35] and he was like the kid where preschool would send home these little videos
[1:40] of all the kids dancing and singing and my son would be in the back corner like
[1:44] sitting by himself and it just broke my little my heart my mama heart and you
[1:51] know now as I see him as a nine-year-old he's so happy he's thriving.
[1:57] I'm just so grateful for, you know, working with him over the past several years
[2:03] to just get him to a place where he is now and some of it is just him maturing
[2:08] and growing up and being more confident.
[2:11] And then my girls, they're eight years old.
[2:15] They're in third grade. They are doing great.
[2:18] They're also in sports. They're so chatty.
[2:21] I've shared in other podcast episodes, you know, how having little girls and
[2:25] especially twins, it's hard to divide your time and give everyone their individual attention.
[2:32] And for so much of their baby years, right, it's all the physical activities
[2:37] that you have to do to keep everyone fed and bathed and clean and happy.
[2:44] But now there's so much of more of this like social emotional toll that I've
[2:51] taken on with them and kind of navigating different situations at school and at home.
[2:58] And all of it is fine and positive. There's nothing, you know,
[3:02] terribly wrong going on, but it just takes so much more mental effort to have
[3:06] these conversations with them.
[3:08] But overall, I just see that they're at an age where I'm really enjoying this time.
[3:15] I can talk to my kids. I can reason with them. They're so helpful. They're so eager.
[3:21] They're excited about the opportunities and experiences that we're having as a family.
[3:28] We were in Europe for a couple of weeks over the summer, and you could just see the,
[3:33] how much they appreciated and understood this amazing opportunity that we had
[3:39] as a family to take this really big trip.
[3:43] And we also talked a lot about how, you know, they actually need to work on their table manners.
[3:49] It just seemed like the kids in France, they were a lot better behaved and had
[3:55] more of the strict discipline growing up around,
[3:58] you know, proper table manners and I really recognize that we're kind of lax
[4:03] about that in our home, but my kids are at an age where they get it,
[4:07] they understand it, and we're playing games to, you know, give them points if they are, you know,
[4:14] exhibiting correct and proper table manners.
[4:19] So it's kind of been a fun game for us instead of it could be stressful,
[4:23] you know, where I'm kind of yelling at them and everyone's feeling on edge,
[4:28] but we're really just in a whole new stage of life, and I'm enjoying it so much,
[4:36] and I recognize that they say the days are long, but the years are short,
[4:42] and I just think back on my own motherhood and parenting journey and how true that is,
[4:49] because not that long ago, I remember being completely burnt out and exhausted
[4:55] and depleted and feeling like every single day was just a struggle to survive.
[5:01] And really, the impetus for me starting this podcast was to help other women
[5:08] recognize, like, how can you get out of that cycle of burnout?
[5:12] I've interviewed so many other moms on this podcast where they've shared their
[5:15] own story of feeling burnt out and not getting the support that they needed
[5:21] at the time or not having the words to express how they were feeling.
[5:25] And so I'm really hoping that my listeners are able to gain some inspiration
[5:30] and get some of those words and advice so that you can carve a different path for yourself.
[5:36] Because burnout is not a problem with you.
[5:39] It's our society and our systems are broken. They're not designed to support us.
[5:46] And even though those systems are broken, we have the power,
[5:50] we have the opportunity to take charge of our own life and make different decisions
[5:55] and decide how we want to manage our time, manage our energy.
[5:59] And that was really the personal journey that I went on, right?
[6:02] When I was so burnt out and I,
[6:05] You know, I've shared this before, like every six months, I would like blow
[6:09] up on my husband because I spent six months just like piling on silently,
[6:13] piling on all of the resentment and doing all the things by myself and not really
[6:19] being able to express what I needed.
[6:21] And it was really hard.
[6:25] But I want everyone to know that you can make different choices.
[6:28] You can stand up for yourself. and when
[6:33] I first kind of you know woke up
[6:36] in my mid and into late 30s time period of my own personal life feeling like
[6:43] I've checked all the boxes in my life I have done everything right I have done
[6:49] everything that society has told me I should be doing I got good grades I went to good schools.
[6:55] I got a good job. I got married. We have a house. We have kids.
[7:00] But like, why did I just feel so empty inside? Right.
[7:03] There was one part of it that was just like running ragged and felt like I was
[7:08] on this hamster wheel that I couldn't get off of.
[7:11] But there was another part of me that just like felt so like alone and sad and empty inside.
[7:21] Like, is this all there is? Like, what am I working for?
[7:24] Why am I hustling and busting my ass at home and at work? Like,
[7:29] what am I trying to achieve?
[7:31] And so I took that opportunity from my low point of burnout to start.
[7:38] I guess, reflecting and turning the mirror back on myself to say, what do I need?
[7:44] How can I help myself, you know?
[7:46] And it started with little things like getting back into an exercise routine
[7:50] and meeting really amazing mentors along the way and in, you know,
[7:56] developing and starting up like an exercise routine for myself and doing,
[8:03] which, you know, led to some yoga work, which I had done yoga for a long time,
[8:08] but really looking at yoga from more of a mindfulness perspective and delving
[8:14] into meditation and kind of opening up a different side of myself that I hadn't
[8:20] been aware of or hadn't been a part of my life before,
[8:24] like the spirituality piece of it.
[8:27] I didn't really grow up super religious, but did kind of go to church with my family.
[8:32] And now finding this connection with like the universe and like this bigger
[8:38] source power and recognizing and trusting my intuition.
[8:44] I think one of the books that I had read during this time that really opened
[8:48] that up for me is Untamed by Glennon Doyle.
[8:52] That really, again, opened my eyes to some of, you know, just like reflecting
[8:58] and reading her story. I was able to reflect and think about my own life.
[9:03] And I love how, I don't even think she uses the word intuition,
[9:07] but you can tell just the decisions and the choices that she's making.
[9:11] She's following like an inner guidance, an inner knowing, an inner like niggle within herself.
[9:16] And I recognize that that was something that I had kind of lost in my own journey
[9:21] as I was, you know, people pleasing and trying to do everything for everyone else. I kind of lost.
[9:27] That, like who I was and being able to listen to my own voice and my own self.
[9:34] And so all of this kind of led, one thing led to another.
[9:39] I'm following these breadcrumbs and I come across something called human design.
[9:45] And I was able to get a reading with a human design person, specialist, I guess.
[9:51] And human design is a system based on ancient wisdom and quantum physics.
[9:58] It combines the Chinese I Ching system with the Hindu chakra system and Western
[10:04] astrology. And it's, it literally just takes your birth information,
[10:09] like your birthday, your time of birth, and your place of birth.
[10:12] You put it into this computer system and it provides this map.
[10:17] It's called a body graph. And it's essentially a blueprint of how you were designed
[10:22] and meant to operate in this world.
[10:24] And this just blew my mind because when this woman was telling me about myself,
[10:30] like literally all I gave her, I'd never met her before.
[10:33] I just gave her my birth information and she walks me through this chart that
[10:38] has a whole bunch of information on it.
[10:41] There's like numbers and lines and colors and it looks very daunting.
[10:46] But she walked me through that chart and told me.
[10:50] It was like she just looked into my soul and told me so much about me that it
[10:57] was crazy and uncanny, and I was instantly obsessed.
[11:03] So some of the things that she told me was just how my energy is meant to work.
[11:09] I'm someone with the type that I am is called a generator.
[11:14] And so what that means is I have this internal access to creative life force energy.
[11:21] And so I have so much energy to do things and be lit up by the world and my environment.
[11:28] But if I'm out of alignment, if I'm doing things that I don't like or not,
[11:34] I'm not passionate about, I'm just like depleted.
[11:37] And this was really fascinating to me because I was just kind of thinking like,
[11:42] yeah, like at work and at home, they're just all mundane day to day tasks.
[11:47] So I was really looking for something to be passionate about and that re-energized me.
[11:52] Because if I'm re-energized in doing these other things, then that helps me,
[11:58] gives me the energy to invest in other parts of my life, right?
[12:02] Like not feel so depleted with the family and at work and feel like I'm just in this daily grind.
[12:09] And so I really started like exploring how my energy was working.
[12:14] And she also told me about my inner authority and how I'm meant to make decisions.
[12:20] And so as a generator, I have this internal GPS and this gut response within
[12:25] my body to tell me if something is a yes or no for me.
[12:30] So I would feel rising energy and excitement if I am meant to be doing that thing.
[12:36] And if I don't feel that energy or if it feels like waning, depleting energy,
[12:42] then that's a no for me. But how many times have I made a decision that wasn't
[12:47] in alignment with my own gut feeling, right?
[12:49] I started a pros and cons list in my head and I'm just swirling around in logical.
[12:55] Analytical mind mode and I have analysis paralysis and I'm just like getting
[13:00] out of sync with what is truly right for me.
[13:05] And then I feel frustrated because that's my not-self theme or feeling.
[13:10] So if I'm out of alignment, I feel frustration. And if I'm in alignment with
[13:15] my actions and my decisions and where I'm putting my energy,
[13:19] then I feel satisfaction.
[13:20] And all of what she was telling me was really giving me an opportunity to think
[13:26] about and contemplate how I was spending my energy and, you know,
[13:32] how can I make shifts and change in my own,
[13:35] like small things in my own daily life to really change.
[13:39] Get myself into a better mood, into a higher vibe state, which,
[13:45] again, allows me to show up as the person that I want to be,
[13:50] to show up as my best self every day.
[13:53] And so I, like I said, I became so obsessed with this human design system.
[13:59] And the other thing she told me, it was like some of my shadow aspects,
[14:03] right? Like I was a people pleaser.
[14:05] And she told me why I was a people pleaser where in
[14:08] my chart it indicated that I was a people pleaser
[14:10] and I recognized yes for my whole life I was
[14:14] always so afraid of what other people would
[14:17] think of me or the judgment or making a
[14:20] mistake or you know I thinking I
[14:23] had to be perfect and so how much time and energy
[14:26] was I pouring into being a people pleaser versus honoring my own authority my
[14:32] own energy and so all of this really kind of opened my eyes to just thinking
[14:38] of how I can make those shifts in my own life to show up as a happier,
[14:44] healthier, better version of myself for me and for my family and for the workplace, right?
[14:51] And so, like I said, I became so obsessed with human design and I just started studying it myself.
[14:59] I bought books. I'm looking online, Googling things. There's actually a ton of resources out there.
[15:07] So there's tons of podcasts and blog posts out there already that is talking about human design.
[15:14] And I got to a place where I was like, I think I can do this.
[15:19] I think I've learned enough about this that maybe I can start helping other
[15:25] people because it was so revolutionary for me.
[15:27] This had helped me so much that I wanted to share this gift and this experience with other people.
[15:34] But one thing about my own human design chart is that I'm an investigator.
[15:41] I'm someone who, like I shared, once I become obsessed and passionate about
[15:44] something, I am researching as much as I can about it.
[15:48] But I also so feel like I don't have enough information. Like,
[15:53] I'm not, I can't share this information until I'm an expert in it.
[15:58] But I also have a side of me that loves to experiment and do a lot of trial
[16:03] and error and fail forward.
[16:05] And so I, recognizing that this was part of my design and how I could be held
[16:12] back because I didn't feel like I knew enough about.
[16:16] But if I knew, but I guess I heard on another podcast, if you just know,
[16:21] if you're like two steps ahead of someone else, then you have more information than the other person.
[16:26] And so that really gave me the confidence and courage to start doing readings
[16:32] for other people. And it just started with friends and family.
[16:36] I read my husband's chart and like, he's not into this kind this stuff at all.
[16:41] And he was floored. He was like, I don't know if you were able to read my chart
[16:47] so accurately and tell me so much about me because you know me so well,
[16:51] because we've, you know,
[16:53] been married for so long, or if this is actually real, but I think it feels real.
[17:00] And that also, again, gave me the confidence because he was such a skeptic to
[17:04] continue to read, and I know for many of my listeners here, I've given you all
[17:09] readings of your own human design chart.
[17:11] And what I love about human design is that it shows you your potential.
[17:16] It shows you how you can strive and make different decisions or get into alignment
[17:23] with your own personal energy type so that you can become the highest,
[17:30] best version of yourself.
[17:32] I'm sure many of you You have done a lot of those other personality tests or
[17:37] typing tools like the Enneagram and the Myers-Briggs.
[17:41] And I've always felt like those tests like just kind of put me in a box.
[17:44] It's like this is who you are. This is what you are. And that's all there is to it.
[17:50] Human design is an experiment. It gives you the opportunity to say within you,
[17:57] there are shadow sides of this aspect of you, and there is the highest self,
[18:05] highest vibe version of this same energy type.
[18:09] And that's where, you know, if you're in a low vibe mood, you're going to feel
[18:15] one way, But if you can shift your energy to be in a high vibe,
[18:19] you're going to show up differently.
[18:22] And it's up to us, right? It's up to us to live up to our fullest potential.
[18:27] And that is the map and the blueprint that human design shares and provides.
[18:34] And so I want to use this little, I guess, three-part series around where I'm
[18:41] sharing with you how human design has changed my life and helped me get out of burnout mode.
[18:48] There are three big things that
[18:51] I've identified that you can uncover in a person's human design chart.
[18:56] First, it's that zone of genius, right? Like, what is my highest potential?
[19:01] What are my superpowers?
[19:02] What are my strengths? And these are innate strengths.
[19:06] These are not things that come to you because you have this degree or this job title.
[19:12] This is something that you were born with. And how do you really show up and
[19:18] capitalize and leverage on those innate superpowers and zone of genius that you have?
[19:25] So I think this is really great for people who just feel stuck in where they
[19:29] are right now and to remind you of your potential,
[19:33] remind you of like this innate goodness and superpower that you have within
[19:39] you that I call your zone of genius and.
[19:43] It shares that in your human design chart. The second thing that human design
[19:47] talks about is also the biggest challenges and lessons that you are here to learn in your lifetime.
[19:54] So for me, that is, you know, I told you that I have been a people pleaser for most of my life.
[20:01] And so I had to kind of walk through that path and get to this place where I
[20:06] recognize I'm a people pleaser. And I believe that part of my mission is to
[20:10] help people recognize that you are worthy exactly the way you are.
[20:15] You don't have to prove yourself. You don't have to burn out trying to prove
[20:20] your worth to everyone else.
[20:22] I have spent so much of my own personal life living for external validation
[20:29] and being that people pleaser and relying on other people to tell me if I was
[20:35] doing good or if I was enough or if that decision I made was right or wrong.
[20:40] But this human design chart helped me open my eyes to recognizing,
[20:47] no, I already have everything within me.
[20:51] I have the answers within myself. I need to take ownership of my own personal
[20:57] decision-making power and authority.
[21:01] And know that I have nothing to prove. I am worthy and perfect exactly the way
[21:07] I am and good enough. Maybe not perfect.
[21:11] None of us are perfect. We're not static beings. There's always more that we
[21:15] can learn and new experiences that we can take away from.
[21:20] But I'm here to first learn for myself that I am worthy and I have nothing to prove.
[21:28] And then now I want to share and pass along that message. So other people can
[21:33] also recognize that, hopefully without as much of the burnout and struggle that
[21:38] I've had to go through in my own lifetime.
[21:40] But these lessons and challenges that we are here to experience and learn is
[21:46] ultimately the greatest gift that we can pass on to others.
[21:50] And again, it's all in your human design chart. And then the third thing that
[21:55] I love to talk about that the human design chart shares is how we make decisions.
[22:02] And I think for many of us, we were taught to make pros and cons lists and to be analytical.
[22:10] And really, we are guided away from our own internal intuition.
[22:17] And so for me, I recognize that I need to get out of my own head and into my heart and trust myself.
[22:23] And for me especially, I have this internal GPS through my sacral center that
[22:30] tells me what feels right as a yes or no.
[22:35] And interestingly enough, not everyone has that. So everyone can say,
[22:39] like you hear people say, just follow your gut.
[22:42] Well, not everyone has that gut feeling within them. And so I know that I have
[22:48] this and that has helped me better connect with myself and my body to make decisions
[22:54] to ensure that I'm in alignment with what I need to do for myself in order to
[22:59] honor myself, my own energy,
[23:02] and again, to stay out of that burnout mode.
[23:06] But not everyone has this. So I want to invite you actually to sign up for and
[23:13] watch this free masterclass that I have created.
[23:16] So I have this four-part masterclass where I will take you through your human design chart.
[23:22] I will show you exactly how to find it.
[23:25] There's a website where, again, you put in your birth information.
[23:29] It will tell you what your chart, what type you are. It will show you your body graph.
[23:36] And I will walk you through those three main parts of the human design chart
[23:42] that will help you understand how your energy is meant to operate,
[23:46] how you show up in the world, how you can avoid burnout.
[23:50] What are some of those societal conditionings and stories that you were led
[23:54] to believe and how that might be different from your energy type and how you
[23:59] can make shifts in your own life to pull yourself out of that burnout mode and
[24:03] feel more aligned with your highest self.
[24:07] And I also tell you based on your design chart, you know, how should you be
[24:13] making decisions in your life and how opportunities are supposed to come to you?
[24:20] How do you find and live your life so that you will be open to those opportunities
[24:26] and live up to your greatest potential.
[24:29] It has, like I said, human design has really drastically changed my life. I am obsessed with it.
[24:36] I am finally at this place where
[24:38] I feel I can share this more broadly with the world. Like I said, I...
[24:43] For so long lived from a place of fear and judgment. Like, oh,
[24:48] what are people going to think if I shared this kind of crazy new system with them?
[24:54] But hopefully if you've been with me for a while, you'd be interested in looking into it.
[25:00] And if you're like, that's too crazy for me right now, I'm gonna just continue
[25:05] to listen to the interviews with working moms.
[25:09] No problem, I am not offended. But if I've piqued your interest a little bit,
[25:14] I hope you will sign up for my free masterclass.
[25:18] You will get instant access to all four videos, which will allow you to binge
[25:23] watch the whole thing or slowly take your time. It's up to you.
[25:27] You have the power and the decision making authority to decide how you want to spend your time.
[25:33] But I do recognize that we are all in, you know, time scarcity is a reality for all of us.
[25:42] So I really honor you and thank you if you decide to take the masterclass that
[25:48] you are spending time really for you.
[25:51] It's not for me. I took my time because I want to share this with the world.
[25:56] But for you, you're taking that first step in watching this video because you
[26:01] are taking those steps to change yourself, change your own life.
[26:06] We have heard so many burnout stories in this podcast.
[26:11] And I'm here to say we don't need to hustle.
[26:15] We don't need to drive ourselves ragged. We don't need to just survive every day.
[26:19] We can thrive and I am giving you through this
[26:22] mini human design masterclass those
[26:26] steps that you can start taking to really shift
[26:29] how you see the world how you see yourself and and
[26:32] I applaud you for doing that because again this is all for you it's it's not
[26:37] for me I've already done it and if you want to go watch it please let me know
[26:42] what you think and if you're like you know actually I'm really interested in
[26:46] understanding my own personal human design chart.
[26:50] I will also put a link in our show notes to share with you how you can do a
[26:56] personalized reading with me where I will give you your energetic leadership blueprint.
[27:02] So this will be a private session where we will decode your unique human design
[27:07] and really uncode and identify how you can lead and parent and make decisions
[27:14] for yourself without burning out.
[27:16] So that masterclass is more of a general one. It will, for many of you,
[27:21] that might be all you want and need because at a high level,
[27:25] you're understanding your own unique type, your decision-making authority, and your strategy.
[27:31] And maybe you take that and run with it and start there.
[27:35] But for those of you who want to go a little bit deeper, you know,
[27:38] start with the masterclass And then we can chat more about doing more of that
[27:43] personalized human design, energetic leadership blueprint,
[27:49] where I'll just walk you specifically through, you know, your own unique superpowers
[27:54] and what some of those lessons and challenges you're here to learn are.
[27:58] So in our next episode, I am gonna share a little bit more about,
[28:02] again, my own personal journey and how I
[28:05] uncovered my zone of genius through getting this human design reading and then
[28:10] taking the time to just contemplate and reflect on how I can make those shifts
[28:17] in my own life to show up differently and remember and recognize the limitless
[28:22] potential that lives within me.
[28:25] So stay tuned. I'll be back next week for part two of this human design series.
[28:33] Let me know on LinkedIn. You can send me a DM if this is interesting to you, if you want more of it.
[28:40] I am so excited to hear what you think. And I really hope that this helps put
[28:46] you on a path to really getting yourself out of burnout mode if that's where
[28:54] you're in or really helping you just remember how amazing you are.
[29:00] Thanks for listening to this episode. Until next time, bisous.
