## Transcript

[0:00] Speaker 1: A Colored Juice Podcast Studio Production presents... Well.
[0:05] Speaker 2: Hello there, little one. Grandma Rose is back with her
[0:11] Speaker 2: shawl round her shoulders and a brand new story warming
[0:17] Speaker 2: in her teapot. Grandpa Ellis is resting tonight after telling
[0:22] Speaker 2: you the Hattie tale so gentle last night. Hattie helped
[0:27] Speaker 2: Mabel the tired moth, you remember. The fireflies lit a
[0:32] Speaker 2: golden ribbon all the way to the old willow, and
[0:36] Speaker 2: Mabel got home safe. And far away, Willa is still
[0:42] Speaker 2: safe in her own warm bed with her tiny brass
[0:46] Speaker 2: bell hung by her pillow. Tonight we have a new
[0:51] Speaker 2: friend waiting and a new voice to tell his tale.
[0:58] Speaker 2: His name is Jasper. He is eight years old, and
[1:04] Speaker 2: he is staying in a white lighthouse on a gray
[1:10] Speaker 2: cliff above a quiet cove. High over the water sits
[1:17] Speaker 2: the lamp room, where a great brass lamp wakes up
[1:23] Speaker 2: every night at dusk. Theo is here to tell their tale.
[1:28] Speaker 2: his very first tale on our show. So fluff your pillow,
[1:34] Speaker 2: pull your blanket up to your chin, and off we go.
[1:41] Speaker 2: And before Theo begins, a soft word for the grown-ups
[1:44] Speaker 2: sharing this bedtime. These nightly tales stay free because listeners
[1:49] Speaker 2: help carry them. You can join the Spreaker Supporter Club
[1:53] Speaker 2: for bonus tales tucked right into your podcast app. Or
[1:57] Speaker 2: join Patreon for early access to every tale, plus supporter-only
[2:02] Speaker 2: stories and longer editions from the whole family of shows.
[2:06] Speaker 2: Both links rest in the show notes.
[2:09] Speaker 1: Now, Theo. The lamp is lit. Tell it soft and slow.
[2:19] Speaker 3: Jasper was eight years old, and he loved three things best.
[2:25] Speaker 3: Warm cocoa, winding stairs, and lights that glow in the dark.
[2:32] Speaker 3: For one whole week, Jasper was staying with his grandpa
[2:35] Speaker 3: who kept the sleepy lighthouse on Gull Rock Point. The
[2:39] Speaker 3: tower was white as milk. Its door was red as
[2:43] Speaker 3: an apple. And from the lamp room at the very top,
[2:47] Speaker 3: you could see the whole quiet cove spread out below.
[2:51] Speaker 3: To reach the lamp room, you climbed one hundred steps,
[2:56] Speaker 3: one hundred winding stone steps, round and round, past one
[3:01] Speaker 3: small round window, then one more, then one more after that.
[3:07] Speaker 3: Every night at dusk, Jasper climbed those steps with his grandpa.
[3:12] Speaker 3: His grandpa polished the great curved glass till it shone.
[3:16] Speaker 3: Then he lit the brass lamp, and the slow golden
[3:20] Speaker 3: beam woke up and began to turn, round and round,
[3:25] Speaker 3: lighting the way home for the fishing boats far out
[3:29] Speaker 3: on the water. On this night, the night of our story,
[3:33] Speaker 3: Jasper carried the soft polishing cloth folded neat as a handkerchief.
[3:38] Speaker 3: Step by step they climbed, past the first small window,
[3:42] Speaker 3: past the second, all the way up to the lamp
[3:45] Speaker 3: room door. His grandpa pushed the door open. The sea
[3:50] Speaker 3: air came in, cool and salty. The gulls had gone
[3:54] Speaker 3: to roost. The cove below lay flat and silver. And
[3:59] Speaker 3: everything was hushed, the way the world gets just before sleep.
[4:05] Speaker 3: Just then, from the narrow ledge outside the lamproom glass,
[4:09] Speaker 3: came the smallest sound. Peep, peep, soft as a dripping tap.
[4:18] Speaker 3: Jasper looked out, and there, pressed against the warm glass,
[4:23] Speaker 3: sat the roundest, fluffiest puffin chick he had ever seen.
[4:29] Speaker 3: Her feathers were soft gray down, her feet were bright orange,
[4:34] Speaker 3: and her eyes kept closing. then popping open, then closing again. Well,
[4:40] Speaker 3: hello there, small one, said Jasper, very soft, through the glass.
[4:45] Speaker 2: Are you lost?
[4:47] Speaker 3: Peep, said the chick, in a voice thin as dandelion fluff.
[4:51] Speaker 1: I am Pippa.
[4:53] Speaker 3: I wandered from my burrow under the gray stone, and
[4:56] Speaker 3: now the path looks all dusky, and my legs are
[4:59] Speaker 3: too sleepy to carry me home. Then you shall rest first,
[5:06] Speaker 3: said Jasper, and after that we shall get you home.
[5:10] Speaker 3: That is what lighthouse folk do. Jasper lifted Pippa as
[5:15] Speaker 3: gently as lifting a warm muffin and set her down
[5:19] Speaker 3: in his wool cap, which his grandpa lined with the
[5:21] Speaker 3: soft polishing cloth. Pippa sighed the sleepiest sigh, tucked her
[5:27] Speaker 3: orange feet under her fluff, and closed her eyes. Now
[5:32] Speaker 3: while Pippa naps in her cap nest, Here is a
[5:35] Speaker 3: small whisper for the grown-ups. If you would like these
[5:38] Speaker 3: tales to keep coming every night, there are two kind
[5:42] Speaker 3: ways to lend a hand. The Supporter Club on Spreaker
[5:45] Speaker 3: adds bonus tales inside the app you are using now,
[5:49] Speaker 3: and Patreon shares each tale early, with extra stories and
[5:53] Speaker 3: extended editions from every show in the family. The links
[5:57] Speaker 3: wait in the show notes. Shh, now, the lamp is
[6:01] Speaker 3: being lit. His grandpa turned the brass key. The wick caught.
[6:07] Speaker 3: The brass lamp bloomed gold, and the great beam woke
[6:11] Speaker 3: and went sweeping out over the cove, slow and steady
[6:15] Speaker 3: as a rocking chair, round and round and round. In
[6:20] Speaker 3: the sweeping light, Jasper could see the cliff path clear
[6:23] Speaker 3: as day, winding down past the gray stone all the
[6:27] Speaker 3: way to the water. Look, grandpa, he breathed. The beam
[6:32] Speaker 3: shows the whole way home. So it does, young keeper,
[6:36] Speaker 3: said his grandpa, all aboard for the burrow run. Pippa first,
[6:42] Speaker 3: Lamp second, Coco third. Down the 100 steps they went,
[6:48] Speaker 3: slow and careful, with Pippa snug in the cap. Out
[6:53] Speaker 3: the red door, along the cliff path with the golden
[6:56] Speaker 3: beams sweeping over them, warm as a blanket. again and again.
[7:03] Speaker 3: Under the gray stone sat a round, dark burrow, and
[7:07] Speaker 3: in the burrow doorway waited a grown-up puffin, gray and white,
[7:12] Speaker 3: with a bright-striped beak. That was the mama puffin, and
[7:16] Speaker 3: she had been waiting a long while. Mama, peeped Pippa,
[7:21] Speaker 3: tumbling out of the cap and into the soft feathers.
[7:24] Speaker 3: A wing folded over her at once. The mama puffin
[7:28] Speaker 3: looked up at Jasper. and dipped her bright beak. Once,
[7:33] Speaker 3: the way lighthouse folks say, thank you without a single word.
[7:39] Speaker 3: Sleep tight, Pippa, said Jasper. Mind you stay near the
[7:42] Speaker 3: gray stone when the light turns dusky. Back up the
[7:47] Speaker 3: cliff path they climbed, up the 100 steps all the
[7:49] Speaker 3: way to the little watch room under the lamp. His
[7:52] Speaker 3: grandpa poured warm cocoa into two tin cups. They drank
[7:55] Speaker 3: it slow, watching the beam turn over the dark water.
[7:59] Speaker 3: Then Jasper curled into his narrow bed under the watchroom
[8:02] Speaker 3: window with his wool cap hung on the bedpost and
[8:06] Speaker 3: the empty cocoa cup on the sill. The beam swept past, gold,
[8:12] Speaker 3: then gone, then gold again, slow as breathing. That is
[8:17] Speaker 3: the tale of the sleepy lighthouse, my friends. Jasper helped
[8:22] Speaker 3: someone small get home safe. Maybe tomorrow you can help
[8:26] Speaker 3: someone small too. Now Grandma Rose is back to tuck
[8:30] Speaker 3: the night in. Listen for her soft, warm voice. Good night,
[8:36] Speaker 3: lamp glow. Good night.
[8:47] Speaker 1: Was that not a lovely tale, little one? Thank you, Theo,
[8:53] Speaker 1: for telling your very first tale so gentle. And thank you, Jasper,
[8:59] Speaker 1: wherever you are, for showing us how good it feels
[9:04] Speaker 1: to guide a sleepy friend home. Now it is your
[9:10] Speaker 1: turn to rest. The tail is told. The lamp is lit.
[9:18] Speaker 1: Your bed is warm. Everything is exactly as it should be.
[9:28] Speaker 1: Let us get sleepy together. Stay exactly as you are.
[9:37] Speaker 1: Only listen to my voice. First, pretend your bed is
[9:43] Speaker 1: a little cot in the watch room, high over the water.
[9:49] Speaker 1: Your pillow is cool and soft. Your blanket is the
[9:55] Speaker 1: golden beam. sweeping over you. warm, then gone, then warm again.
[10:05] Speaker 1: Now breathe with me. Breathe in through your nose, slow
[10:11] Speaker 1: and deep. And breathe out through your mouth, long and slow.
[10:19] Speaker 1: Let all the day drift away over the dark water.
[10:25] Speaker 1: One more time. Breathe in soft and slow. And breathe
[10:31] Speaker 1: out softer still. Feel yourself sink one inch deeper into
[10:39] Speaker 1: your bean blanket. Good. So good. Let your toes be still.
[10:48] Speaker 1: Let your legs be heavy and warm. Let your tummy
[10:54] Speaker 1: rise and fall, easy as the beam turning over the cove.
[11:01] Speaker 1: Let your hands lie open and soft, and let your
[11:06] Speaker 1: eyes stay closed, for they have worked hard all day,
[11:12] Speaker 1: and now they can rest. And before you drift off,
[11:17] Speaker 1: One last drowsy note for the grown-ups. If these bedtime
[11:22] Speaker 1: tales matter in your house, the show grows because listeners
[11:27] Speaker 1: pitch in. The Spreaker Supporter Club brings bonus tales straight
[11:32] Speaker 1: into your podcast app, or Patreon brings every tale early,
[11:36] Speaker 1: plus exclusive supporter stories and extended editions from each show
[11:42] Speaker 1: in the family. Both links live in the show notes
[11:45] Speaker 1: whenever you are ready. Now, back to sleepy. Tomorrow night,
[11:51] Speaker 1: there will be another story waiting for you. A new friend.
[11:58] Speaker 1: A new voyage. Every single night. So ask your grown-up
[12:05] Speaker 1: to follow kids' bedtime stories so you never miss a
[12:10] Speaker 1: single tale. But that is tomorrow. Tonight is for sleeping.
[12:19] Speaker 1: So pull your bean blanket tight, little lamplight. The lamp
[12:24] Speaker 1: is your nightlight. The bean is watching over you. And
[12:29] Speaker 1: someone loves you more than all the puffins on the
[12:34] Speaker 1: whole wide cliff. Good night, little one. Good night. Sleep tight.
[12:46] Speaker 1: I will see you in your dreams.
