## Transcript

[0:00] Speaker 1: In the soft green heart of Sunnybrook Meadow, where the
[0:03] Speaker 1: grass swayed like a lullaby and the clover flowers grew
[0:08] Speaker 1: in tiny purple clusters. There lived a small caterpillar named Clover.
[0:13] Speaker 1: Cloveral was the shyest caterpillar in the whole meadow. She
[0:18] Speaker 1: was a lovely shade of pale green, with tiny golden
[0:22] Speaker 1: dots along her back that shimmered in the sunlight like
[0:25] Speaker 1: little freckles. She spent her days curled up on her
[0:31] Speaker 1: fevered oak leaf, munching on sweet clover blossoms, and watching
[0:36] Speaker 1: the world go by. She loved her life. She loved
[0:42] Speaker 1: the way the morning dew felt cool against her belly.
[0:47] Speaker 1: She loved the taste of fresh clover, soft and sweet
[0:53] Speaker 1: like a whisper of honey. She loved watching the ants
[0:58] Speaker 1: march past in their busy little lines, and listening to
[1:02] Speaker 1: the crickets sing at sunset. But lately something had been
[1:07] Speaker 1: bothering Clover. It had started one afternoon when her friend Dotty,
[1:15] Speaker 1: a cheerful ladybug, landed on the leaf beside her. Guess
[1:20] Speaker 1: what Dotty had said, her red wings bobbing with excitement.
[1:25] Speaker 1: You know what happens to caterpillars, do not you, Clover
[1:29] Speaker 1: shook her head slowly. You are going to become a butterfly,
[1:37] Speaker 1: Dotty squealed, A beautiful winged butterfly. You will fly through
[1:43] Speaker 1: the air and visit flowers all over the meadow. Clover's
[1:48] Speaker 1: tiny heart beat fast. But I do not want to fly,
[1:54] Speaker 1: she whispered. I like crawling, I like my leaf. Why
[2:00] Speaker 1: do I have to change? Doughty did not seem to
[2:04] Speaker 1: hear the worrying Clover's voice. She buzzed away happily to
[2:07] Speaker 1: tell the others, leaving Clover alone with a new and
[2:10] Speaker 1: frightening thought. That night, Clover could not sleep. She curled
[2:16] Speaker 1: into a tight little spiral on the under side of
[2:19] Speaker 1: her oak leaf and thought about all the things she
[2:23] Speaker 1: had heard since then. Beetles and bees and grasshoppers. They
[2:31] Speaker 1: all seemed to know about it. They all said the
[2:36] Speaker 1: same thing. You will change, you will become something new.
[2:46] Speaker 1: But what if I do not want to be something new?
[2:49] Speaker 1: Clover murmured to the stars, What if I just want
[2:54] Speaker 1: to be me? The moon rose over Sunnybrook Meadow, round
[3:01] Speaker 1: and gentle, pouring silver light across the grass. The meadow
[3:08] Speaker 1: grew quiet. The crickets tucked their legs beneath them. The
[3:14] Speaker 1: fireflies dimmed their lanterns one by one, and then a
[3:20] Speaker 1: shadow drifted softly across Clover's leaf. Not a scary shadow,
[3:26] Speaker 1: but a soft one, like a silk scarf floating on
[3:30] Speaker 1: the breeze. Hello, little one, said a voice, low and
[3:35] Speaker 1: kind as a river stone. Clover looked up. Perched on
[3:40] Speaker 1: the tip of her oak leaf was the most magnificent
[3:43] Speaker 1: butterflies she had ever seen. Her wings were deep violet,
[3:48] Speaker 1: edged in gold, and they moved so gently they did
[3:52] Speaker 1: not even disturb the air. Her eyes were large and
[3:57] Speaker 1: dark and warm, like two smell smoothberries glistening in the moonlight.
[4:02] Speaker 1: I am Whisper, the butterfly said, and I could not
[4:07] Speaker 1: help noticing you have been carrying a heavy thought. Clover swallowed.
[4:12] Speaker 1: Are you? Are you a caterpillar too? Before, I mean,
[4:19] Speaker 1: Whisper smiled, or at least her antennae curled in a
[4:25] Speaker 1: way that felt like a smile. Oh. Yes, A long
[4:29] Speaker 1: time ago, I was exactly like you, small and green
[4:34] Speaker 1: and very very fond of my leaf. Then you understand,
[4:39] Speaker 1: Clover said, her voice, warbbling. Everyone says I have to change,
[4:46] Speaker 1: They say I will become a butterfly. But I am scared. Whisper.
[4:52] Speaker 1: What if I do not like being a butterfly? What
[4:56] Speaker 1: if I lose myself? Whisper faltered her going slowly, and
[5:01] Speaker 1: settled down beside Clover for a moment. She did not
[5:04] Speaker 1: say anything. She just sat there, warm and close, and
[5:09] Speaker 1: that alone made Clover feel a little braver. Let me
[5:12] Speaker 1: tell you a secret, Whispers said, at last, the secret
[5:16] Speaker 1: that caterpillars carry inside them. Clover's eyes grew wide. Right now,
[5:23] Speaker 1: Whisper began. Inside your body, there are tiny invisible things
[5:30] Speaker 1: called imaginal discs. Imaginal discs, Clover repeated, the words, sounding
[5:40] Speaker 1: strange and wonderful. Yes, they are like little seeds, tiny
[5:46] Speaker 1: blueprints that have been with you since you were a
[5:49] Speaker 1: very small egg. They hold everything you will become, your wings,
[5:56] Speaker 1: your long, graceful antennae, your beauty full call out town
[6:01] Speaker 1: for sipping nectar. They have been inside you all along,
[6:07] Speaker 1: wading Clover blinked. They are already in me, They are
[6:14] Speaker 1: already in you, Whisper confirmed, And when the time comes,
[6:20] Speaker 1: you will not disappear. Do you want to know what
[6:23] Speaker 1: really happens? Clover nodded slowly. You will find a safe brunch,
[6:30] Speaker 1: and you will spin yourself a cozy little sleeping bag
[6:35] Speaker 1: called a chrysalis. It is not a scary a place.
[6:41] Speaker 1: Think of it as a warm, soft blanket rubbed all
[6:45] Speaker 1: around you. Inside that the chrysalis, your body will gently
[6:52] Speaker 1: rearrange itself. Those imaginal disks will wake up and begin
[6:58] Speaker 1: to growl. Caterpillar body will make room for wings and
[7:03] Speaker 1: new eyes and long delicate legs. That sounds like a lot,
[7:11] Speaker 1: Clover whispered. It is, whisper said gently. But here is
[7:16] Speaker 1: the most important part, the part that nobody tells you.
[7:20] Speaker 1: You do not disappear. Your memories, your feelings, your love
[7:25] Speaker 1: for clover, flowers and morning dew. All of that stays.
[7:30] Speaker 1: It becomes part of who you are as a butterfly.
[7:34] Speaker 1: You are not erased, Clover, you are revealed. Clover felt
[7:39] Speaker 1: something loosen in her chest, like a knot slowly coming undone.
[7:44] Speaker 1: But I am still scared, she admitted, whisper, nodded her
[7:49] Speaker 1: golden edged wings catching the moonlight. Of course you are,
[7:54] Speaker 1: and that is perfectly all right. Courage does not mean
[7:57] Speaker 1: you are not afraid. Courage means you are afraid, and
[8:01] Speaker 1: you take the next little step anyway, You crawl to
[8:04] Speaker 1: the branch, You spin the chrysalis, You rest, and when
[8:08] Speaker 1: you are ready, you open your wings. Clover looked out
[8:13] Speaker 1: at the meadow. It looked so different from up here,
[8:19] Speaker 1: so big, so wide, so full of flowers she had
[8:23] Speaker 1: never reached. Will it hurt, she asked quietly. It feels strange,
[8:30] Speaker 1: Whisper said, honestly, like stretching after a long, wonderful nap.
[8:35] Speaker 1: But no, it's not chart. It is more like quicken
[8:40] Speaker 1: up to a part of yourself who did not know
[8:43] Speaker 1: was there. Clover was quiet for a long time. The
[8:49] Speaker 1: moon had drifted higher now, and the meadow hummed with
[8:55] Speaker 1: the softest sounds of night time. A frog croaking gently
[9:02] Speaker 1: by the creek, an owl hooting far away, the rustle
[9:09] Speaker 1: of leaves in the breeze. Whisper Clover said, at last, yes,
[9:19] Speaker 1: little one, will you be there when it is time?
[9:24] Speaker 1: Whisper leaned close and touched her antenna to Clover's tiny head.
[9:28] Speaker 1: I will be right here, she said. Every caterpillar has
[9:32] Speaker 1: someone who watches over them, and I choose you. Clover smiled,
[9:36] Speaker 1: the smallest, bravest smile in all of Sunnybrook Meadow. They
[9:40] Speaker 1: sat together Through the rest of that night, Clover on
[9:44] Speaker 1: her leaf and Whisper beside her. Whisper told her stories
[9:49] Speaker 1: about the places she had flown, Meadows painted in wild flowers,
[9:54] Speaker 1: rivers that sparkled like necklaces, mountains so tall their peaks
[10:00] Speaker 1: wore blankets of cloud. And with each story, Clover felt
[10:04] Speaker 1: something blooming inside her, not just fear, something warmer, something
[10:12] Speaker 1: that felt like wings unfolding before they were even grown.
[10:17] Speaker 1: You know, Clover said sleepily. The clover flowers will still
[10:22] Speaker 1: be here even when I am a butterfly. Clover flowers
[10:28] Speaker 1: will still be here, even when I am a butterfly,
[10:33] Speaker 1: every single one, Whisper said, and you will be able
[10:37] Speaker 1: to visit them all. The sky was just beginning to
[10:41] Speaker 1: soften with the pale pink of morning when Clover's eyes
[10:46] Speaker 1: grew heavy. The stars were fading one by one, like
[10:51] Speaker 1: tiny candles being gently blown out. Whisper She murmured, hmm,
[10:59] Speaker 1: I think I think maybe I am a little less scared,
[11:04] Speaker 1: Whisper smiled. And tomorrow you will be a little less
[11:08] Speaker 1: scared than that, and the day after a little less still.
[11:14] Speaker 1: That is how courage grows, Clover, one small day at
[11:17] Speaker 1: a time. Clover rested her head against the oak leaf,
[11:21] Speaker 1: feeling its cool green surface beneath her. The first birds
[11:25] Speaker 1: were beginning to sing, soft, sleepy songs that sounded like
[11:29] Speaker 1: the meadow itself was yawning. Good Night, whisper. Clover whispered,
[11:35] Speaker 1: good night, brave little caterpillar, whisper, said her violet wings
[11:40] Speaker 1: glowing faintly in the dawn. Sweet dreams, I will see
[11:46] Speaker 1: you in the morning light. And there on her favorite
[11:49] Speaker 1: oak leaf and sunnybrook meadow, with the clover flowers nodding
[11:52] Speaker 1: gently around her and the breeze carrying the scent of morning.
[11:56] Speaker 1: Clover closed her eyes. She dreamed of she had never
[12:01] Speaker 1: seen wings painted in sunshining sky. She dreamed of the
[12:09] Speaker 1: wind lifting her softly, carrying her over rivers and wild
[12:15] Speaker 1: flowers and mountains, wearing bloud blankets. She dreamed of looking
[12:21] Speaker 1: down at her oak leaf from high above and knowing
[12:24] Speaker 1: it would always be her home. And somewhere deep inside her,
[12:29] Speaker 1: in places so small that no one could see, the
[12:33] Speaker 1: imaginal disks shimmered quietly, patiently, beautifully waiting for the day
[12:42] Speaker 1: they would bloom. But that was for another time. For now,
[12:47] Speaker 1: the meadow was still the moon had gone to sleep,
[12:51] Speaker 1: and Clover, the bravest little caterpillar, who was just learning
[12:56] Speaker 1: how brave she could be. Dreamed on, safe, warm, and
[13:03] Speaker 1: wonderfully perfectly herself
