Fern is a curious little fern who lives deep in the forest. While the other ferns are content to sway in the breeze, Fern dreams of exploring beyond her patch of the forest floor. When she follows the sound of a mysterious whispering waterfall, she discovers something magical - a waterfall that tells stories of raindrops, snowflakes, and the hidden connections between all living things. This enchanting bedtime story teaches children about curiosity, patience, and the power of listening. A gentle tale for kids ages 5-10. [0:04] Speaker 1: US Studios. Hey there everyone, welcome back to kids Bedtime Stories.
[0:15] Speaker 1: I am so happy you are here tonight. I am
[0:19] Speaker 1: your host, and this is the show where every night
[0:24] Speaker 1: is story night, whether you are tucked in bed, riding
[0:29] Speaker 1: in the car, or just settling down for the evening.
[0:34] Speaker 1: I am glad you are listening. If you are enjoying
[0:38] Speaker 1: the show, hit subscribe, leave a review, and share it
[0:44] Speaker 1: with another family. It really means a lot. You can
[0:48] Speaker 1: put this on in the background while you wind down,
[0:53] Speaker 1: do chores, or just relax. I will keep you company tonight.
[1:02] Speaker 1: I have a story about a little fern named Fern. Yes,
[1:08] Speaker 1: her name really was Fern, and she lived in the deepest,
[1:14] Speaker 1: greenest part of a forest, where the trees were so
[1:20] Speaker 1: tall their tops touched the clouds. Fern was not like
[1:26] Speaker 1: the other ferns in the forest. While they were content
[1:31] Speaker 1: to sway gently in the breeze and soap up whatever
[1:36] Speaker 1: sunlight filtered through the canopy, Fern was curious. She wanted
[1:42] Speaker 1: to know what lay beyond the mossy rocks and the
[1:47] Speaker 1: twisted roots that surrounded her little patch of the forest floor.
[1:53] Speaker 1: Every morning, Fern would stretch her tiny fromes toward the
[1:58] Speaker 1: sound of rushing water she could hear in the distance.
[2:03] Speaker 1: It was a soft, musical sound, like someone whispering a
[2:08] Speaker 1: lullaby through the trees. The older ferns told her it
[2:13] Speaker 1: was just a stream, but Fern did not believe it
[2:18] Speaker 1: was just a stream. A stream does not sing like that,
[2:24] Speaker 1: A stream does not make you feel like someone far
[2:27] Speaker 1: away is trying to tell you something important. One crisp
[2:32] Speaker 1: autumn morning, with golden leaves scattered across the forest floor
[2:37] Speaker 1: like tiny lanterns, Fern made a decision. She was going
[2:43] Speaker 1: to follow the sound. She could not walk, of course,
[2:48] Speaker 1: being a fern and all, but she could do something
[2:52] Speaker 1: that other ferns could not. She could move her roots slowly,
[2:58] Speaker 1: one root at a time. Fern began to inch her
[3:02] Speaker 1: way across the mossy ground toward the sound of the
[3:06] Speaker 1: whispering water. The journey was not easy. There were sharp
[3:12] Speaker 1: pebbles that poked her roots, and patches of dry earth
[3:17] Speaker 1: where the ground was hard and unforgiving. There were thick
[3:22] Speaker 1: tangles of old tree roots that she had to navigate around,
[3:28] Speaker 1: and once a big brown beetle nearly stepped on her,
[3:34] Speaker 1: but Fern kept going, pulled forward by the lovely sound
[3:39] Speaker 1: that grew clearer with every inch she traveled. After what
[3:43] Speaker 1: felt like hours of slow, careful movement, the forest began
[3:49] Speaker 1: to change. The trees were not as dense. Here, Shafts
[3:56] Speaker 1: of golden sunlight poured through gaps in the canopy, warming
[4:02] Speaker 1: the air and making everything glow. The moss under fern
[4:09] Speaker 1: was thicker and softer, like a green velvet carpet, and
[4:15] Speaker 1: the sound of water was no longer distant. It was
[4:20] Speaker 1: loud and clear, bubbling and rushing and whispering all at once.
[4:26] Speaker 1: Sirne pushed through a curtain of hanging vines and gasped.
[4:32] Speaker 1: There in a small clearing, surrounded by tall pine trees
[4:38] Speaker 1: and blooming wild flowers, was the most lovely waterfall she
[4:43] Speaker 1: had ever seen. It was not a huge waterfall, not
[4:49] Speaker 1: the kind that shakes the ground when the water crashes down.
[4:55] Speaker 1: It was gentle, flowing over smooth gray rocks in and
[5:00] Speaker 1: silver ribbons that caught the sunlight and scattered tiny rainbows everywhere.
[5:06] Speaker 1: The water pulled in a clear, shallow pool at the bottom,
[5:11] Speaker 1: where smooth stones glimmer like jewels beneath the surface. But
[5:17] Speaker 1: the most wonderful thing about this waterfall was that it
[5:22] Speaker 1: was whispering. Not the kind of whispering that is just
[5:27] Speaker 1: the sound of water splashing. This was real whispering, with
[5:33] Speaker 1: real words that Fern could almost understand. She listened as
[5:40] Speaker 1: hard as she could, straining her tiny fronds toward the water.
[5:46] Speaker 1: Then she heard it, clear as a bell, soft as
[5:50] Speaker 1: a feather falling on snow. The waterfall spoke, Hello, there,
[5:55] Speaker 1: little one, I have been waiting for you. Fern was
[6:00] Speaker 1: so surprised she nearly lost her grip on the moss.
[6:06] Speaker 1: You have been waiting for me, she asked, her voice
[6:10] Speaker 1: barely louder than a rustling leaf. Oh yes, the waterfall replied,
[6:16] Speaker 1: its voice bubbling with warmth. I whisper for any one
[6:23] Speaker 1: who will listen. Most creatures hurry past the dear stop
[6:30] Speaker 1: for a drink, but do not hear my words. The
[6:36] Speaker 1: birds sing over me, so they cannot catch what I say.
[6:42] Speaker 1: But you, little Fern, you stopped, You listened. You came
[6:52] Speaker 1: all this way just to hear what I had to say.
[6:57] Speaker 1: Fern felt a warmth spread through her roots that had
[7:01] Speaker 1: nothing to do with the sunlight. What do you whisper about?
[7:07] Speaker 1: She asked. The waterfall paused, letting its water dance over
[7:12] Speaker 1: the rocks for a moment, before answering, I whisper stories,
[7:18] Speaker 1: stories of the rain that fell from clouds that traveled
[7:22] Speaker 1: all the way from the ocean, Stories of the snow
[7:27] Speaker 1: that melted on mountaintops and found its way down, down, down,
[7:34] Speaker 1: through rock and soil to join me. Here. I carry
[7:40] Speaker 1: the stories of every drop of water that has ever
[7:44] Speaker 1: touched these stones. Ferns settled into the soft moss at
[7:49] Speaker 1: the edge of the pool and listened. The waterfall began
[7:55] Speaker 1: to tell her about a rain drop named Pearl, who
[7:59] Speaker 1: lived in a cloud far far away. Pearl had been
[8:05] Speaker 1: part of a great, big cloud that floated over cities
[8:11] Speaker 1: and farms and mountains. Pearl had watched children playing in
[8:18] Speaker 1: school yards and farmers plowing their fields. She had seen
[8:23] Speaker 1: the ocean from above, shining like a giant blue mirror.
[8:29] Speaker 1: And she had seen the desert golden and vast and still.
[8:35] Speaker 1: When Pearl finally fell as rain, she landed on a
[8:39] Speaker 1: mountain and began her long journey downward. She trickled through
[8:44] Speaker 1: soil and around roots and over stones. She joined with
[8:50] Speaker 1: other rain drops, and together they became a stream, then
[8:55] Speaker 1: a river, than part of this very waterfall, and now
[9:01] Speaker 1: Pearl's story was part of the waterfall whisper carried in
[9:06] Speaker 1: every splash and ripple. That is a wonderful story, Ferrin
[9:10] Speaker 1: said when it was finished. Pearls saw so much of
[9:16] Speaker 1: the world before she came here that she did. The
[9:20] Speaker 1: waterfall agreed, and there are thousands more like her. Every
[9:27] Speaker 1: drop has a tail. Would you like to hear another? Yes, please,
[9:33] Speaker 1: said Fern, settling deeper into the moss. The waterfall told
[9:38] Speaker 1: her about a snowflake named Cristel who had fallen on
[9:42] Speaker 1: the highest peak of a distant mountain. Cristel had glinted
[9:47] Speaker 1: in the winter sun for months before the spring warmth
[9:51] Speaker 1: finally melted her. She had seeped into the ground and
[9:56] Speaker 1: traveled through underground caves where she had seen glowing minerals
[10:01] Speaker 1: and sleeping salamanders. Her journey to the waterfall had taken
[10:07] Speaker 1: an entire year. It told her about a spring that
[10:10] Speaker 1: bubbled up from deep beneath the earth, carrying minerals that
[10:16] Speaker 1: made the water taste slightly sweet. That spring had been
[10:21] Speaker 1: flowing for hundreds of years, long before the forest around
[10:26] Speaker 1: it had grown. It had witnessed the first seeds take
[10:31] Speaker 1: root and the first trees stretch toward the sky. Fern
[10:36] Speaker 1: listened to story after story, each one more fascinating than
[10:42] Speaker 1: the last. She heard about water that had been inside glaciers,
[10:49] Speaker 1: about drops that had been drunk by elephants and returned
[10:53] Speaker 1: to the sky as breath, about rain that had fallen
[10:58] Speaker 1: on a queen's castle, and rain that had helped a
[11:01] Speaker 1: farmer's garden grove. As the stories flowed, something magical happened
[11:07] Speaker 1: to Fern. She began to grow, not the way most
[11:13] Speaker 1: ferns grow slowly and steadily over seasons. Fern grew in understanding.
[11:23] Speaker 1: With every story the waterfall told, she learned something new
[11:28] Speaker 1: about the world beyond her little patch of forest floor.
[11:33] Speaker 1: She learned that everything is connected, that a rain drop
[11:38] Speaker 1: in one part of the world might end up as
[11:42] Speaker 1: part of a waterfall in another. She learned that patience
[11:46] Speaker 1: is a kind of magic. That the snowflake who waited
[11:51] Speaker 1: a year to reach the waterfall found wonders along the
[11:56] Speaker 1: way that she would have missed if she had hurried.
[12:01] Speaker 1: And she learned that listening is one of the most
[12:05] Speaker 1: powerful things any one can do. The sun began to set,
[12:11] Speaker 1: painting the sky above the clearing in shades of orange,
[12:16] Speaker 1: and pink and deep purple. The waterfall whisper took on
[12:23] Speaker 1: a softer tone, like a mother humming her child to sleep.
[12:28] Speaker 1: It is getting late, little Fern, the waterfall said gently,
[12:34] Speaker 1: You will need to find your way home before dark.
[12:37] Speaker 1: Fern realized she had been so absorbed in the stories
[12:42] Speaker 1: that she had not thought about the long journey back.
[12:46] Speaker 1: But how will I remember all of this, she asked,
[12:51] Speaker 1: a note of worry in her voice. There were so
[12:55] Speaker 1: many stories, so many details. What if I've forget The
[13:01] Speaker 1: waterfall laughed, a sound like tiny bells made of water.
[13:08] Speaker 1: You will not forget, Fern. The stories are part of
[13:13] Speaker 1: you now. They live in your roots and your fronds.
[13:19] Speaker 1: And besides, you can always come back. I will be
[13:24] Speaker 1: here whispering whenever you need to hear a story. Fern
[13:29] Speaker 1: thanked the waterfall and began her slow journey home. The
[13:35] Speaker 1: forest was different now. She noticed things she had never
[13:41] Speaker 1: seen before. The way moonlight made shadows of the leaves
[13:46] Speaker 1: look like dancing shapes on the ground. The smell of
[13:51] Speaker 1: pine needles warmed by the last of the day sun.
[13:56] Speaker 1: The quiet sound of an owl calling from somewhere high above.
[14:02] Speaker 1: When she finally reached her patch, of the forest floor.
[14:07] Speaker 1: The stars were out, and the night was cool and still.
[14:13] Speaker 1: She settled into the earth and felt the gentle vibration
[14:17] Speaker 1: of the underground streams that connected everything, even her to
[14:24] Speaker 1: the waterfall far away, And as she closed her fronds
[14:28] Speaker 1: for the night, she could still hear it, faint but clear,
[14:34] Speaker 1: the waterfall, whispering its stories to whoever would listen. Fern
[14:40] Speaker 1: smiled because now she knew the secret. The world is
[14:46] Speaker 1: full of voices if you take the time to listen,
[14:51] Speaker 1: and sometimes the smallest fern in the biggest forest can
[14:58] Speaker 1: hear the most wonderful things. The next morning, a new
[15:03] Speaker 1: little fern nearby noticed that Fern seemed different. Her fronds
[15:08] Speaker 1: were a deeper green, and there was a sparkle in
[15:11] Speaker 1: her leaves that had not been there before. Where did
[15:14] Speaker 1: you go yesterday, the little fern asked, you were gone
[15:20] Speaker 1: all day? Fern smiled her leafy smile. I went to
[15:26] Speaker 1: hear the waterfall, she said, and I heard the most
[15:31] Speaker 1: delightful stories. Would you like to hear one? The little
[15:36] Speaker 1: fern nodded eagerly, and Fern began to tell the story
[15:41] Speaker 1: of Pearl the raindrop. As she spoke, she noticed other
[15:47] Speaker 1: ferns nearby leaning in to listen, and even a ladybug
[15:53] Speaker 1: on a nearby leaf had stopped to hear the tale.
[15:57] Speaker 1: And that is how Fern became the story teller of
[16:01] Speaker 1: the forest. Every evening she would share a story she
[16:07] Speaker 1: had learned from the waterfall, and every evening more and
[16:13] Speaker 1: more creatures would gather to listen. The deer would pause
[16:18] Speaker 1: their grazing, the rabbits would peak from their burrows, and
[16:24] Speaker 1: even the old oak tree would seem to lean a
[16:28] Speaker 1: little cooser. The waterfall never stopped whispering, and Fern never
[16:35] Speaker 1: stopped listening, and the forest, filled with all those wonderful stories,
[16:44] Speaker 1: was a happier and more magical place because of it.
[16:50] Speaker 1: So remember, my friends, no matter how small you are,
[16:56] Speaker 1: you can hear wonderful things if you listen carefully. And
[17:03] Speaker 1: once you hear a good story, the best thing you
[17:07] Speaker 1: can do is share it with someone else. That is
[17:12] Speaker 1: how stories stay alive, passed from one heart to another,
[17:19] Speaker 1: just like the water that flows from the mountain to
[17:22] Speaker 1: the sea and back again. Good Night everyone, sweet dreams,
[17:29] Speaker 1: and may you always hear the whispers of the world
[17:32] Speaker 1: around you. If you enjoyed tonight's story, make sure to
[17:36] Speaker 1: subscribe and tell a friend about kid Bedtime Stories. I
[17:42] Speaker 1: will be back tomorrow night with another adventure. Until then,
[17:48] Speaker 1: sleep tight and I will see you soon. Good night,
