## Transcript

[0:00] Speaker 1: The little hedgehog's snowy bed. The autumn wind was blowing
[0:04] Speaker 1: harder than usual, whistling through the tall trees of the forest.
[0:09] Speaker 1: The red and gold leaves danced in the air before
[0:13] Speaker 1: landing on the cooling ground. Henry the hedgehog sniffed the
[0:17] Speaker 1: air with his tiny black nose. It smelled like frost,
[0:23] Speaker 1: damp earth, and coming snow. Brrr. Shivered Henry, pulling his
[0:28] Speaker 1: prickles tighter around him. The winter is definitely coming. I
[0:33] Speaker 1: must find a safe, warm place to sleep before the
[0:37] Speaker 1: first snowflake falls. Henry knew that hedgehogs are special. Unlike
[0:42] Speaker 1: the deer or the rabbits, who stay awake in the snow,
[0:46] Speaker 1: hedgehogs need along deep sleep to stay safe. But Henry
[0:51] Speaker 1: was young, and this was his very first winter alone.
[0:55] Speaker 1: He didn't know where to go. He crawled through the
[0:58] Speaker 1: crunchy grass until he met Red the squirrel, who was
[1:02] Speaker 1: frantically digging a hole near a pine tree. Hello, Red,
[1:06] Speaker 1: called Henry, do you know a good place for me
[1:08] Speaker 1: to sleep this winter? Red stopped digging for a moment,
[1:13] Speaker 1: his tail twitching nervously. I don't sleep all winter like
[1:17] Speaker 1: you do, Henry. I have a nest high up in
[1:20] Speaker 1: the branches. It sways in the wind, but it is safe.
[1:25] Speaker 1: You should try climbing. Henry looked up at the giant tree.
[1:29] Speaker 1: Oh no, he sighed, My legs are far too short
[1:33] Speaker 1: for climbing, and I don't like heights. Henry kept walking
[1:38] Speaker 1: near the pond. He saw mister frog sitting on a
[1:41] Speaker 1: lily pad that was turning brown. Mister frog asked, Henry,
[1:47] Speaker 1: where do you go when the ice comes croak? Replied
[1:50] Speaker 1: the frog in a deep, sleepy voice. I swim down
[1:54] Speaker 1: to the bottom of the pond and bury myself in
[1:57] Speaker 1: the soft, thick mud. It is wet and cool. You
[2:02] Speaker 1: should try it. Henry shook his head. Oh my no,
[2:07] Speaker 1: I am not a good swimmer, and I would miss
[2:09] Speaker 1: the fresh air. I need somewhere dry. Henry was starting
[2:14] Speaker 1: to feel worried. The sun was setting and the air
[2:17] Speaker 1: was getting colder by the minute. Just then, a wise
[2:21] Speaker 1: voice hooted from above. It was the old owl sitting
[2:25] Speaker 1: on a fence post. Who who? The owl said, softly,
[2:30] Speaker 1: do not worry little one for a hedgehog. The best
[2:34] Speaker 1: place is not high in the sky nor deep in
[2:37] Speaker 1: the mud. Look for the old oak root at the
[2:40] Speaker 1: edge of the clearing. It is deep, dry and protected
[2:45] Speaker 1: from the wind, a cozy bed under the snow. Henry
[2:50] Speaker 1: thanked the owl and waddled as fast as his little
[2:53] Speaker 1: eggs could carry him towards the old oak tree. When
[2:57] Speaker 1: he arrived, he found exactly what the owl had promised.
[3:02] Speaker 1: Between the giant, twisted roots of the tree there was
[3:06] Speaker 1: a small hollow cave. It was protected by a roof
[3:10] Speaker 1: of thick bark. Henry crawled inside. It was safe from
[3:15] Speaker 1: the wind, but the floor was hard and cold. This
[3:19] Speaker 1: is a good house, Henry whispered, but it needs to
[3:22] Speaker 1: be a warm bed. For the next hour, Henry worked
[3:26] Speaker 1: very hard. He wanted his winter sleep to be perfect. First,
[3:31] Speaker 1: he rolled around in the dry leaves, gathering a big
[3:35] Speaker 1: pile of orange, brown, and yellow leaves on his spikes.
[3:39] Speaker 1: He carried them into the hollow root crackle, crunch crackle. Next,
[3:45] Speaker 1: he found some soft, dry moss growing on a stone.
[3:49] Speaker 1: He used his little paws to pull it loose and
[3:52] Speaker 1: placed it on top of the leaves. It felt like
[3:55] Speaker 1: a soft feather pillow. Finally, he gathered some dry grass
[4:00] Speaker 1: to weave the leaves together, making a round snug nest.
[4:05] Speaker 1: Just as he finished, a single cold, white flake landed
[4:09] Speaker 1: on his nose, then another, and another. The snow had arrived.
[4:15] Speaker 1: Henry didn't mind. He crawled into the center of his
[4:19] Speaker 1: leafy nest. He wiggled around until he fit perfectly. It
[4:24] Speaker 1: was no longer cold. It was warm, smelling of earth
[4:29] Speaker 1: and dry leaves. He curled up into a tight, prickly ball,
[4:34] Speaker 1: tucking his nose into his tummy. The forest outside became
[4:38] Speaker 1: quiet as the snow covered the ground in a white blanket,
[4:42] Speaker 1: but inside the tree roots, Henry was safe. He took
[4:46] Speaker 1: a deep breath, closed his eyes, and listened to the
[4:50] Speaker 1: wind singing a lullaby. He knew he wouldn't wake up
[4:53] Speaker 1: until the warm, yellow sun of spring returned to wake him.
[4:57] Speaker 1: Good Night, Henry, good night Forest
