## Transcript

[0:02] Speaker 1: The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play.
[0:06] Speaker 1: But inside the house at the end of the day,
[0:10] Speaker 1: the children were tired. Their eyelids were heavy. But the
[0:13] Speaker 1: room was a mess, like a broken down levee. Toys
[0:18] Speaker 1: on the carpet, socks on the stair, there were blocks,
[0:22] Speaker 1: There were books scattered everywhere. Oh, dear, said Sally. We
[0:28] Speaker 1: can't go to sleep. The mess is too big and
[0:31] Speaker 1: the pile is too deep. Then bump from the front door.
[0:37] Speaker 1: There came a soft thump. We looked and we saw
[0:41] Speaker 1: him stepping on the mat. We looked and we saw him,
[0:46] Speaker 1: the cat in the hat. Chapter one, The picking up Machine.
[0:52] Speaker 1: Why do you sit there looking sad and awake, said
[0:55] Speaker 1: the cat, with a mess like this? For goodness sake,
[1:00] Speaker 1: you cannot rest well with toys on the floor. Wait,
[1:05] Speaker 1: I have something right here at the door. He whistled
[1:08] Speaker 1: a tune, low and sweet, like a hum, and enrolled
[1:11] Speaker 1: a machine with a thrum, thrum, thrum. This is my
[1:15] Speaker 1: picker upper sleeper, so sweet. It picks up your toys
[1:19] Speaker 1: and it makes the room neat. The cat pressed a button.
[1:23] Speaker 1: The machine gave a whirr. It picked up the blocks
[1:26] Speaker 1: with a soft, gentle purr. It picked up the cars
[1:30] Speaker 1: and the dolls and the strings. It put them away
[1:33] Speaker 1: in the box for the things. Swish, swish, swish. The
[1:37] Speaker 1: sound was so light. The room was getting ready for
[1:41] Speaker 1: the quiet of night. Chapter two, the fish says, hush.
[1:46] Speaker 1: Our fish in the bowl, who was usually loud, looked
[1:50] Speaker 1: at the clean room and felt very proud. The cat
[1:53] Speaker 1: is quite good, said the fish in the pot. He
[1:57] Speaker 1: cleaned up the mess. He cleaned up a lot. And
[2:01] Speaker 1: now said the cat, with a tip of his hat,
[2:04] Speaker 1: it is time to lie down on the rug or
[2:06] Speaker 1: the mat. The cleaning machine has turned into a fan.
[2:10] Speaker 1: It blows a cool breeze as soft as it can.
[2:15] Speaker 1: The cat waved his hand, and the lights dimmed down
[2:17] Speaker 1: low outside the window, it started to snow, soft flakes
[2:22] Speaker 1: of white falling down from the sky. Hush, said the cat.
[2:28] Speaker 1: Let us close every eye. Chapter three, Thing one and
[2:32] Speaker 1: Thing two get ready. Then out of the box came
[2:36] Speaker 1: Thing two and Thing one. But they did not run,
[2:40] Speaker 1: and they did not make fun. They were wearing pajamas
[2:44] Speaker 1: of fuzzy and blue. Thing one had a pillow, and
[2:48] Speaker 1: so did Thing two. It is time for the teeth,
[2:52] Speaker 1: said the cat, with a grin we must brush them
[2:55] Speaker 1: all well before dreaming begins. They brushed up and down
[2:59] Speaker 1: with the them so slow, brush and brush in a soft,
[3:03] Speaker 1: steady row. They put on their slippers. They crawled into
[3:08] Speaker 1: bed with soft, fluffy blankets pulled up to their head.
[3:12] Speaker 1: They did not jump up. They did not make a peep.
[3:16] Speaker 1: Even Thing one and Thing two were asleep. Chapter four,
[3:21] Speaker 1: The Sleepy Dream Book. The cat sat straight up on
[3:24] Speaker 1: a chair near the bed. He took off his hat
[3:27] Speaker 1: from the top of his head. The mess is all gone,
[3:31] Speaker 1: the day is all done. Sleeping is peaceful, and sleeping
[3:35] Speaker 1: is fun. He opened a book that was heavy and old,
[3:39] Speaker 1: with pages of silver and letters of gold. He started
[3:43] Speaker 1: to read, in a voice like a breeze, about magical
[3:47] Speaker 1: gardens and slumbering trees. His voice was a whisper, a rhythm,
[3:52] Speaker 1: a rhyme. Sleep tight, said the cat, It is sleepy time.
[3:58] Speaker 1: The words floated round like a boat on a stream,
[4:02] Speaker 1: carrying Sally and me to a dream. Chapter five, Good
[4:06] Speaker 1: night to the Cat. The cat closed the book with
[4:10] Speaker 1: a very soft snap. I think, said the cat. I
[4:15] Speaker 1: will take a small nap. But he knew he must go,
[4:19] Speaker 1: so he packed up his fan. I will leave you
[4:21] Speaker 1: to sleep as fast as I can. He tiptoed away
[4:26] Speaker 1: on his soft furry feet, back out to the cold
[4:29] Speaker 1: and the snowy white street. He waved a goodbye from
[4:33] Speaker 1: the door on the mat. Then he disappeared, that old
[4:37] Speaker 1: cat in the hat. But inside the house it was warm,
[4:40] Speaker 1: it was deep. The fish and the children were fast,
[4:44] Speaker 1: fast asleep. No bumps and no thumps, just the moon
[4:49] Speaker 1: shining bright. Good night to the cat, and to all,
[4:53] Speaker 1: a good night. The end
