[0:00] Speaker 1: The brave little backpack. Once upon a time, in a
[0:04] Speaker 1: quiet corner of a cozy room, sat Barnaby. Barnaby was
[0:08] Speaker 1: not a boy, and he was not a bear. Barnaby
[0:11] Speaker 1: was a brand new, bright blue backpack, and tomorrow was
[0:15] Speaker 1: a very big day. Tomorrow was the first day of school.
[0:19] Speaker 1: Most backpacks would be excited. They would zip and on
[0:22] Speaker 1: zip with joy. But Barnaby felt a little not in
[0:26] Speaker 1: his straps. His zipper felt tight, and his pockets felt
[0:30] Speaker 1: empty and nervous. What if I'm not big enough, Barnaby
[0:34] Speaker 1: whispered to the moonlight streaming through the window. What if
[0:38] Speaker 1: I can't hold all the books? What if I don't
[0:40] Speaker 1: make any friends in the cubby room. Just then, a
[0:44] Speaker 1: gentle voice floated down from the bookshelf. It was Oliver,
[0:48] Speaker 1: the wise old owl lamp. Whooo is worrying down there?
[0:52] Speaker 1: Asked Oliver, glowing with a soft, warm light. It's me,
[0:57] Speaker 1: sighed Barnaby. I have the first day jitters. Oliver smiled warmly. Ah,
[1:02] Speaker 1: the jitters, I know them well. But Barnaby, do you
[1:06] Speaker 1: know what you have inside you? Barnaby checked his main pocket.
[1:11] Speaker 1: Nothing yet, just a lunch box and a red pencil case. No,
[1:16] Speaker 1: chuckled Oliver. You have space. You have space to carry
[1:20] Speaker 1: new stories, you have space to hold magical drawings, and
[1:24] Speaker 1: most importantly, you have space for courage. Barnaby wasn't so sure.
[1:30] Speaker 1: How do I find courage? It's easy, said Oliver. Let's
[1:34] Speaker 1: try a magic trick. It's called the zipper. Breath. Close
[1:38] Speaker 1: your eyes, Oliver whispered, Now, imagine a zipper going up
[1:43] Speaker 1: slowly while you take a deep breath in zip Barnaby
[1:47] Speaker 1: took a deep breath, imagining his zipper sliding up, holding
[1:51] Speaker 1: all his warmth inside. One, two, three, Now, said Oliver,
[1:56] Speaker 1: Imagine the zipper sliding down as you breathe out zizzip.
[2:00] Speaker 1: Barnaby let the air out, The knot in his straps loosened,
[2:05] Speaker 1: His fabric felt softer. Let's do it again, said Oliver.
[2:09] Speaker 1: Breathe in, Zip up courage, breathe out, zip out worry.
[2:15] Speaker 1: Barnaby did this three times. With every breath, he felt
[2:19] Speaker 1: a little less empty and a little more ready. He
[2:22] Speaker 1: realized that he wasn't just a backpack. He was a
[2:25] Speaker 1: keeper of treasures. Tomorrow, he wouldn't just be carrying books.
[2:29] Speaker 1: He would be carrying dreams. As the moon rose higher.
[2:33] Speaker 1: Barnaby looked at the door. He imagined the school bus.
[2:37] Speaker 1: He imagined a little boy picking him up gently. He
[2:40] Speaker 1: imagined meeting a bright yellow lunch box, and maybe a
[2:44] Speaker 1: cool pair of sneakers. I think I'm ready, whispered Barnaby.
[2:48] Speaker 1: I'm strong, I'm sturdy, and I'm ready to learn. Good Night, Brave, Backpack,
[2:54] Speaker 1: said Oliver, dimming his light. Good Night, Oliver, said Barnaby,
[2:59] Speaker 1: and as he drifted off to sleep, Barnaby didn't feel
[3:02] Speaker 1: empty anymore. He felt full, full of hope, full of calm,
[3:07] Speaker 1: and ready for the best adventure ever.
