[0:03] Speaker 1: I remember I was sitting on the bed and I
[0:05] Speaker 1: opened it and I screamed.
[0:09] Speaker 2: I was shocked.
[0:11] Speaker 1: Horror was all I could feel. All the color drained
[0:14] Speaker 1: from my husband's face.

[1:14] Speaker 3: Kenzie grew up in Tooele, Utah.
[1:17] Speaker 1: We lived right at the base of a really big
[1:19] Speaker 1: mountain range in Utah. So literally you opened our curtains
[1:22] Speaker 1: in the front yard and we were right at the
[1:23] Speaker 1: base of the mountain.
[1:26] Speaker 2: I am the third.
[1:27] Speaker 1: Of four kids. And my oldest brother is kind of
[1:32] Speaker 1: a troublemaker. And he would come up with all these
[1:35] Speaker 1: silly little games that we would play. We spent a
[1:38] Speaker 1: lot of time together as siblings while my parents were
[1:40] Speaker 1: at work.
[1:41] Speaker 3: Their parents taught them to work hard for the things
[1:44] Speaker 3: they cared about.
[1:45] Speaker 1: If it was school or church or sports, whatever it was,
[1:49] Speaker 1: they didn't really care as long as we put our
[1:52] Speaker 1: best foot forward and did everything that we could. They
[1:55] Speaker 1: really instilled a work ethic into us.
[1:58] Speaker 3: Her family is part of the Church of Jesus Christ
[2:00] Speaker 3: of Latter-day Saints, and faith is a big part of
[2:03] Speaker 3: their lives. They all went to church together every week.
[2:08] Speaker 1: We'd go every Sunday, and then each age group would
[2:11] Speaker 1: do activities together that I think definitely shaped me into who.
[2:14] Speaker 2: I am in a lot of ways.
[2:15] Speaker 1: It just instilled more values of respect and hard work
[2:20] Speaker 1: and honesty and all those things.
[2:23] Speaker 3: When Kenzie was 13, her family moved to Idaho. That's
[2:27] Speaker 3: where she went to high school.
[2:29] Speaker 1: I was in two to three choirs all throughout high school.
[2:33] Speaker 1: I was in student council, and I did really well academically.
[2:38] Speaker 3: She loved hanging out with her siblings, especially her older
[2:42] Speaker 3: sister Brynn.
[2:44] Speaker 1: She's four years older than me, so I wanted to
[2:46] Speaker 1: be her. I wanted to do everything she did. We
[2:50] Speaker 1: have the funniest pictures of us in matching dresses, and
[2:53] Speaker 1: I'm so happy, and she's so mad.
[2:55] Speaker 2: Our rooms were right next to each other.
[2:57] Speaker 1: And so we thought we were super sneaky and I
[2:59] Speaker 1: would sneak into a room at night and we would
[3:01] Speaker 1: play and we would talk, we'd hang out and then
[3:03] Speaker 1: we'd hear my mom yell down the stairs, go to bed.
[3:07] Speaker 3: One day, Brynn came home from a church activity buzzing
[3:10] Speaker 3: about a guy she'd met there. She told Kenzie and
[3:13] Speaker 3: their mom everything.
[3:15] Speaker 1: And she was like, hey guys, I talked to this
[3:17] Speaker 1: guy and he wants to take me on a date.
[3:18] Speaker 1: And we were like, is he a killer? Because why
[3:21] Speaker 1: does he want to take you on a date so fast?
[3:24] Speaker 3: His name was Taylor. When Brynn came home from the date,
[3:27] Speaker 3: Any skepticism about Taylor melted away.
[3:31] Speaker 1: She was like, oh my gosh, you guys, that was amazing.
[3:35] Speaker 1: He's a great guy. She was so excited and so happy.
[3:39] Speaker 3: Kenzie's sister and Taylor started dating. They were teenagers, so
[3:43] Speaker 3: at first, it wasn't very serious. As the months passed,
[3:48] Speaker 3: it became clear what a great fit they were. Kenzie
[3:51] Speaker 3: was impressed with him.
[3:53] Speaker 1: He just always seemed to have her best interest in mind.
[3:57] Speaker 1: really aware of her and always wanting to be there
[4:00] Speaker 1: for her.
[4:04] Speaker 3: Kenzie liked having Taylor around too.
[4:07] Speaker 1: I really liked him. I was like, if you're in,
[4:10] Speaker 1: you're in. We had a brother-sister relationship. He was like
[4:14] Speaker 1: an older brother to me. He would tease me. I
[4:16] Speaker 1: would tease him back.
[4:18] Speaker 3: Soon, Taylor started hanging out with her family. Her parents
[4:23] Speaker 3: embraced him.
[4:24] Speaker 1: One of my favorite qualities about my parents is If
[4:27] Speaker 1: one of us brings somebody home and we're like, this
[4:30] Speaker 1: is the person, it's their person too. They loved him.
[4:33] Speaker 1: They accepted him. They mentored him. They wanted to know,
[4:37] Speaker 1: where are you going in life? How can we help
[4:38] Speaker 1: you with that?
[4:40] Speaker 3: It seemed obvious to the whole family that the two
[4:43] Speaker 3: of them were destined for marriage. Kenzie spent many days
[4:47] Speaker 3: with him and her older sister Brynn. She looked up
[4:50] Speaker 3: to both of them.
[4:52] Speaker 1: We would make dinner together and we would go shopping
[4:55] Speaker 1: together and we would do everything together. And so it's
[4:58] Speaker 1: just fun to be around them. We would always sit
[5:01] Speaker 1: at the dinner table and I'd be like, hey, Taylor,
[5:03] Speaker 1: I've got this on my mind. Can you talk to
[5:04] Speaker 1: me about it? And we would just talk about like
[5:06] Speaker 1: what to do after high school, which was a big
[5:09] Speaker 1: deal to me because I was just kind of craving
[5:11] Speaker 1: that older brother advice kind of relationship.
[5:15] Speaker 2: And Taylor provided that.
[5:17] Speaker 3: One day, Brynn and Taylor were picking Kenzie and a
[5:20] Speaker 3: friend up to give them a ride home. They parked
[5:22] Speaker 3: on the side of the road and Kenzie and her
[5:24] Speaker 3: friend walked up to the car.
[5:27] Speaker 1: And my sister had her hand by her shoulder in
[5:29] Speaker 1: the car. And I was trying to tell them something
[5:32] Speaker 1: that was like really upsetting me. And I was being
[5:35] Speaker 1: so dramatic about it. And I was being so like,
[5:38] Speaker 1: Just listen to me. And they wouldn't listen and they
[5:40] Speaker 1: were laughing. I was like, guys, this isn't funny. And
[5:44] Speaker 1: finally my friend was like, oh my gosh, Kenzie, look
[5:46] Speaker 1: at your sister's finger.
[5:48] Speaker 3: That's when she finally saw the brand new ring her
[5:51] Speaker 3: sister was wearing.
[5:53] Speaker 2: They had gone out and he had proposed.
[5:56] Speaker 3: Kenzie was so excited for them. Taylor was in the
[5:59] Speaker 3: Air Force and shortly after they got engaged, he was deployed.
[6:04] Speaker 1: So he was gone for nine months. They would, like,
[6:06] Speaker 1: FaceTime every day for hours on end. And my little
[6:08] Speaker 1: brother and I would be like.
[6:09] Speaker 2: Dude, like, talk to us.
[6:10] Speaker 1: Come on. Like, why are you on the phone with
[6:13] Speaker 1: them all the time?
[6:14] Speaker 3: But really, they were happy to see their sister so
[6:17] Speaker 3: in love.
[6:18] Speaker 1: She was so happy. And we had just never seen
[6:21] Speaker 1: her that in love before. So it was really, really
[6:24] Speaker 1: fun to see her that way.
[6:27] Speaker 3: One day, Kenzie and her sister Brynn were at Walmart.
[6:30] Speaker 3: That's when Brynn got a Facebook message from one of
[6:33] Speaker 3: Taylor's ex-girlfriends.
[6:36] Speaker 1: And we were sitting in the Walmart parking lot and
[6:38] Speaker 1: she's like, oh my gosh, what is this message? And
[6:40] Speaker 1: I remember we both looked at it and it talked
[6:43] Speaker 1: about like, he's a bad guy.
[6:45] Speaker 2: You don't want to go through with this.
[6:47] Speaker 1: Like, believe me, your life's going to get ruined if
[6:50] Speaker 1: you marry this guy.
[6:52] Speaker 3: Brynn started panicking. This was so out of the blue.
[6:57] Speaker 2: She was crying.
[6:58] Speaker 1: I mean, she was so confused. This wasn't the Taylor
[7:02] Speaker 1: that we knew. The Taylor that we knew was kind
[7:05] Speaker 1: and trustworthy and all these things. And I was like,
[7:08] Speaker 1: what do you mean? It's Taylor. We love him. He's
[7:11] Speaker 1: the best. There's nothing to be scared of. She's probably
[7:15] Speaker 1: some crazy ex-girlfriend. Just leave it at that.
[7:17] Speaker 2: And she did.
[7:19] Speaker 3: Brynn closed the app and tried to forget about it.
[7:22] Speaker 3: The wedding was just months away. When Taylor got back
[7:49] Speaker 3: from his deployment, he and Kenzie's sister, Brynn, got married.
[7:54] Speaker 1: It was a backyard wedding at my parents' house, and
[7:56] Speaker 1: it was so fun. It was a beautiful wedding, and
[7:59] Speaker 1: we had so much family there. I was just really
[8:02] Speaker 1: happy for her. We really, really liked Taylor, and we
[8:05] Speaker 1: were just super happy to have him officially be in
[8:08] Speaker 1: the family.
[8:10] Speaker 3: Taylor and Brynn moved in together. After graduating high school,
[8:14] Speaker 3: Kenzie began a three-month-long mission trip with her church. She
[8:18] Speaker 3: spent the final month in Texas.
[8:20] Speaker 1: And when I came home, I was so freaking lost.
[8:24] Speaker 1: I had no idea what I was going to do.
[8:25] Speaker 1: And my sister and Taylor had a place with an
[8:29] Speaker 1: extra room. And they were like, if you want to
[8:30] Speaker 1: come live with us so that you're at a mom's house,
[8:31] Speaker 1: you totally can.
[8:33] Speaker 3: So Kenzie moved in with them. Living with her sister
[8:36] Speaker 3: and Taylor, she felt less lost. Kenzie was ready for
[8:40] Speaker 3: a serious relationship. She had downloaded a dating app, but
[8:44] Speaker 3: so far, she hadn't really clicked with anyone.
[8:46] Speaker 2: I was like, this is kind of stupid.
[8:49] Speaker 1: But right before I deleted it, I had expanded the
[8:52] Speaker 1: radius to like the entire state of Idaho.
[8:55] Speaker 3: That's when she saw a profile that caught her eye.
[8:58] Speaker 3: His name was Parker.
[8:59] Speaker 1: I was like, well, I want to delete this, but
[9:01] Speaker 1: I want to know if he messaged me. And a
[9:05] Speaker 1: couple days later, I downloaded the app again and he
[9:07] Speaker 1: had messaged me.
[9:10] Speaker 3: Parker seemed different from other guys she'd talked to on
[9:12] Speaker 3: the app. He was kind, polite, and fun to talk to.
[9:17] Speaker 3: They set up a time for their first date. Mackenzie's
[9:20] Speaker 3: mom was nervous about her meeting up with someone she
[9:23] Speaker 3: met online.
[9:24] Speaker 1: She was like, you're not going on this date alone.
[9:26] Speaker 1: You're taking your sister with you.
[9:29] Speaker 3: So Brynn and Taylor came on the date to supervise.
[9:32] Speaker 1: We went axe throwing and it was so fun. But
[9:35] Speaker 1: I remember like all night, I wanted Parker to put
[9:38] Speaker 1: his arm around me. And I could see my sister
[9:40] Speaker 1: and Taylor just laughing in the corner trying to nudge
[9:43] Speaker 1: us to like do something.
[9:45] Speaker 3: Despite their best attempts to embarrass her, the date went well.
[9:49] Speaker 3: Kenzie really liked Parker.
[9:52] Speaker 1: He is one of the kindest people I've ever met.
[9:57] Speaker 1: He was always just very respectful. and kind towards me.
[10:02] Speaker 3: Soon, they started dating.
[10:04] Speaker 1: I convinced him to come out to Boise like every
[10:07] Speaker 1: single weekend. So he would leave after work and drive
[10:10] Speaker 1: four hours and come see me and then go back
[10:12] Speaker 1: home on Sunday night.
[10:14] Speaker 3: Kenzie and Parker started hanging out with Brennan Taylor a lot.
[10:18] Speaker 1: We would go to dinner together. We would do game
[10:21] Speaker 1: nights at my sister's house. We watched a lot of
[10:24] Speaker 1: movies together. Taylor made the best caramel popcorn and we
[10:28] Speaker 1: would all just get together and sit on the couch
[10:30] Speaker 1: and watch movies.
[10:32] Speaker 3: The four of them made a fun crew. They started
[10:35] Speaker 3: going on bigger adventures as a group.
[10:38] Speaker 2: We went on a lot of road trips together.
[10:39] Speaker 1: We would blast 2000s hits and we would sing in
[10:43] Speaker 1: the car together and we would just laugh and have
[10:47] Speaker 1: so much fun.
[10:48] Speaker 3: Then in the summer of 2021, Kenzie and Parker got married.
[10:53] Speaker 3: She was 19 and Parker was 21. After the wedding,
[10:57] Speaker 3: they moved in together.
[10:59] Speaker 1: We bought the tiniest little house. And when I say tiny,
[11:03] Speaker 1: it was like 600 square feet. So small. And it
[11:06] Speaker 1: needed a complete remodel. And we remodeled it within like
[11:11] Speaker 1: a couple months. And we lived in this fun little town.
[11:14] Speaker 1: We were like right by the town center. And so
[11:16] Speaker 1: we would go and watch the little concerts downtown and
[11:18] Speaker 1: go to the farmer's markets. And we got a dog.
[11:23] Speaker 3: Kenzie got a job in real estate. She and Parker
[11:25] Speaker 3: cherished the life they were building together. When Valentine's Day
[11:30] Speaker 3: rolled around, Kenzie decided she wanted to do something special
[11:34] Speaker 3: for Parker and herself. A photographer she followed on Instagram
[11:39] Speaker 3: posted that she was now offering boudoir shoots. Kenzie thought
[11:43] Speaker 3: it would be an empowering experience for her and a
[11:47] Speaker 3: fun gift for her husband. But it also made her nervous.
[11:51] Speaker 1: My family is very conservative, very religious. And this was
[11:55] Speaker 1: so out of the box for me to do. So
[11:58] Speaker 1: I didn't tell anybody about it. I was like, it's
[12:00] Speaker 1: my own thing. I'm just going to do it.
[12:02] Speaker 3: When Kenzie showed up at the studio, the photographer made
[12:05] Speaker 3: her feel completely at ease. She coached her on how
[12:09] Speaker 3: to pose. When the photographer showed Kenzie some of the pictures,
[12:13] Speaker 3: it was an incredible feeling. She felt beautiful and confident.
[12:18] Speaker 2: I've always been very insecure in my body.
[12:20] Speaker 1: And so doing this photo shoot, I was able to
[12:22] Speaker 1: see myself in a different lens. Like, wow, I do
[12:25] Speaker 1: feel like a woman. I do feel empowered. And it
[12:28] Speaker 1: built up a certain amount of confidence in me that
[12:30] Speaker 1: I didn't have before.
[12:31] Speaker 3: A few weeks later, her photographer shared a link to
[12:35] Speaker 3: the photo shoot gallery. Kenzie blushed, but she loved the photos.
[12:40] Speaker 3: They would be just for her and her husband.
[12:43] Speaker 1: I only saved the ones that I liked, and I
[12:45] Speaker 1: put them in the hidden folder on my phone, and
[12:47] Speaker 1: I airdropped them to my husband, and then he put
[12:50] Speaker 1: them in his hidden folder on his phone.
[12:54] Speaker 3: She was extra cautious when downloading the photos. She didn't
[12:58] Speaker 3: want them saved anywhere where someone besides her husband could
[13:02] Speaker 3: see them.
[13:02] Speaker 1: I was just kind of obsessing about what if I
[13:05] Speaker 1: made a mistake and sent it to the wrong person,
[13:07] Speaker 1: or like, what if I posted it on accident?
[13:10] Speaker 2: I was so scared.
[13:11] Speaker 1: I was just afraid that people would look at me
[13:12] Speaker 1: differently if they knew what I had done.
[13:15] Speaker 3: A couple weeks later, Kenzie went out to lunch with
[13:18] Speaker 3: her sister, Brent.
[13:19] Speaker 1: And she was like, do you mind if I ask
[13:21] Speaker 1: what you're doing for Parker for Valentine's Day? I don't
[13:23] Speaker 1: know what to do for Taylor. You got any ideas?
[13:25] Speaker 1: And I was like, okay. I just did the photo shoot.
[13:28] Speaker 1: I was like, I don't want to tell everybody about it,
[13:30] Speaker 1: but if you want to reach out to the photographer,
[13:32] Speaker 1: I think you'd really like it.
[13:34] Speaker 3: Her sister reached out to the photographer and set up
[13:36] Speaker 3: her own session. Later that month, Kenzie got a message
[13:41] Speaker 3: from an official social media account for Brigham Young University,
[13:46] Speaker 3: a private university in Utah affiliated with the LDS Church.
[13:51] Speaker 1: And they were like, hey, you have some photos posted
[13:54] Speaker 1: under our hashtag. Can you take them down?
[13:58] Speaker 3: They said the photos were posted on X, or Twitter.
[14:02] Speaker 3: But Kenzie didn't use Twitter.
[14:05] Speaker 1: I had a Twitter account in high school for student
[14:08] Speaker 1: council that I was on. But I didn't use it
[14:10] Speaker 1: for anything else, and I didn't even know my login.
[14:13] Speaker 1: And so I knew in the back of my head
[14:15] Speaker 1: there's no way I could have posted that. But I
[14:18] Speaker 1: was still scared. Because again, I had the obtrusive thoughts, like,
[14:21] Speaker 1: what if I did something?
[14:23] Speaker 3: Whatever inappropriate photos were posted under BYU's hashtags couldn't be hers.
[14:29] Speaker 3: But she had to be sure.
[14:32] Speaker 1: I went on to my Twitter, and I went through
[14:34] Speaker 1: the whole process of changing my password and changing my
[14:37] Speaker 1: username and everything to.
[14:38] Speaker 2: Get logged in.
[14:39] Speaker 1: And there was nothing there. So I messaged them back,
[14:42] Speaker 1: and I said, hey, like, here's a screenshot. There's nothing
[14:44] Speaker 1: on my page. I'm so sorry, but you might have
[14:46] Speaker 1: the wrong person.
[14:49] Speaker 3: The university didn't follow up again, and Kenzie felt reassured
[14:53] Speaker 3: that it was just a mistake.
[14:55] Speaker 1: I didn't feel like I really had to be scared anymore,
[14:58] Speaker 1: so I deleted the account and then just kind of
[15:01] Speaker 1: left it at that.
[15:03] Speaker 3: Over the next few months, Kenzie's family noticed that Taylor
[15:06] Speaker 3: hadn't been quite himself. He was about to be honorably
[15:10] Speaker 3: discharged from his position in the Air Force.
[15:13] Speaker 1: We had all kind of collectively noticed as a family,
[15:15] Speaker 1: things had been a little bit off. But we just
[15:18] Speaker 1: kind of chalked it up to like, he's been in
[15:20] Speaker 1: the military for eight years. That's a big life change.
[15:23] Speaker 1: Like he's probably nervous about that, right? And so we
[15:26] Speaker 1: were really supporting him and trying to figure out how
[15:29] Speaker 1: can we help you through this transition.
[15:33] Speaker 3: Then summer rolled around again. Taylor and Brynn had been
[15:37] Speaker 3: married for a year. In early July, they found time
[15:41] Speaker 3: to celebrate that milestone with their family.
[15:44] Speaker 1: We were out celebrating their anniversary. We were at the
[15:47] Speaker 1: lake together. We went to a nice dinner. And I
[15:50] Speaker 1: specifically remember, it's the silliest memory, the conversation I had
[15:54] Speaker 1: with Taylor about why men's skin is so nice and
[15:58] Speaker 1: why women's always seems to be having problems. And he's like,
[16:00] Speaker 1: you got to keep it simple. Like, I just use
[16:02] Speaker 1: a bar soap and my skin's great. And I remember
[16:05] Speaker 1: leaving him telling Parker, like, oh my gosh, I'm making
[16:09] Speaker 1: it too complicated. Taylor's right.
[16:11] Speaker 3: That weekend, the family planned a party for the Fourth
[16:14] Speaker 3: of July that had always been Kenzie's favorite holiday.
[16:17] Speaker 2: I love a little party. I love a barbecue. I
[16:21] Speaker 2: love getting together.
[16:21] Speaker 1: And it was our first Fourth of July married. So
[16:26] Speaker 1: we were like, we're going to start a tradition. We're
[16:28] Speaker 1: going to wear matching shirts. We're going to go to
[16:29] Speaker 1: the parade. We were just so excited.
[16:34] Speaker 3: The next morning, Kenzie woke up just after sunrise.
[16:39] Speaker 1: I woke up early because I desperately wanted my hair
[16:42] Speaker 1: curled for the parade. So I woke up so early
[16:44] Speaker 1: and it was like just before 6, right around 6 a.m.
[16:48] Speaker 1: And I checked my phone to like turn off my alarm.
[16:51] Speaker 1: And I had so many messages on Instagram. And it
[16:55] Speaker 1: was from an account that I didn't know.
[16:58] Speaker 3: Confused, Kenzie opened the messages.
[17:02] Speaker 1: And the first thing I saw was one of my
[17:03] Speaker 1: boudoir photos, like a screenshot of it. And scrolled down
[17:07] Speaker 1: a little bit more and there was another boudoir photo
[17:12] Speaker 1: and also a nude photo of Taylor.
[17:17] Speaker 3: What on earth was going on? How did this person
[17:20] Speaker 3: get access to her boudoir shoot? And why did they
[17:23] Speaker 3: have a nude photo of her brother-in-law Taylor?
[17:27] Speaker 2: I was like, okay, I'm going to be sick.
[17:30] Speaker 3: She kept scrolling, frantically trying to piece together what was
[17:33] Speaker 3: going on.
[17:35] Speaker 1: This guy had reached out and he said like, hey,
[17:38] Speaker 1: I don't know if you know this, but there's somebody
[17:42] Speaker 1: on Reddit claiming to be your brother-in-law and he's posting
[17:46] Speaker 1: photos of you. I texted him back so fast and
[17:50] Speaker 1: I said, how did you find me?
[17:52] Speaker 2: What do you mean?
[17:54] Speaker 1: And he said, well, I found you because he's been
[17:56] Speaker 1: using your full name.
[17:58] Speaker 3: Kenzie read the words again and again, but they were
[18:01] Speaker 3: barely making sense. There's no way Taylor could have accessed
[18:04] Speaker 3: her boudoir photos. And even if he had, he never
[18:08] Speaker 3: would have posted them online. Did someone hack both of them?
[18:12] Speaker 3: Could someone be framing him?
[18:15] Speaker 2: I wasn't even crying.
[18:16] Speaker 1: I couldn't wrap my head around what I had just seen.
[18:20] Speaker 1: It just didn't compute. I remember sitting on my bed.
[18:24] Speaker 1: I was just shaking profusely. Ask him a couple more
[18:27] Speaker 1: questions like, when did you find this? How long has
[18:30] Speaker 1: this account been up? Can you get me any more information?
[18:33] Speaker 1: And he said, I got a screenshot of the account
[18:35] Speaker 1: and of some of the photos, but unfortunately, that's all
[18:37] Speaker 1: he had.
[18:40] Speaker 3: Her husband, Parker, was still in bed asleep.
[18:43] Speaker 1: And I kind of gently woke up my husband and
[18:46] Speaker 1: I just said like, hey, I just got a message
[18:49] Speaker 1: that feels scary. And I don't know if it's true.
[18:54] Speaker 1: I don't know if it's a mistake, but I need
[18:57] Speaker 1: you to look over this with me. And Parker is
[19:00] Speaker 1: so wise and he's like, hey, let's not call everybody yet.
[19:03] Speaker 1: Let's talk to your sister and just see if she
[19:05] Speaker 1: knows anything, if she's heard anything.
[19:07] Speaker 3: She called her sister, but it was barely 6 a.m.
[19:10] Speaker 3: and all her calls went to voicemail.
[19:13] Speaker 1: And she's not answering. So I'm like leaving her 17 voicemails.
[19:16] Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, call me back. It's super important. I
[19:18] Speaker 1: need to talk to you.
[19:20] Speaker 3: Kenzie didn't know what to do.
[19:22] Speaker 1: I guess I'll get ready for the parade. And as
[19:26] Speaker 1: I'm getting ready, I had to sit down because I
[19:28] Speaker 1: was shaking so bad. And I kept looking at the screenshots.
[19:32] Speaker 1: And the one thing that was standing out to me
[19:33] Speaker 1: was that the username was Larry of Arabia 69.
[19:37] Speaker 3: It looked like a randomly generated Reddit username. Mackenzie knew
[19:44] Speaker 3: it wasn't.
[19:45] Speaker 1: They had a cat named Larry at the time. And
[19:48] Speaker 1: Taylor speaks Arabic. And I had turned around to Parker,
[19:51] Speaker 1: and I was like, those are two things that are
[19:54] Speaker 1: very specific to Taylor that only a few people know.
[19:57] Speaker 2: It's got to be him.
[19:59] Speaker 3: Finally, her sister woke up and called Kenzie back. Taylor
[20:03] Speaker 3: had already left for work early that morning. Kenzie frantically
[20:07] Speaker 3: explained what was happening.
[20:09] Speaker 1: And she said, let me call him and get him home.
[20:12] Speaker 1: I'm taking off my wedding ring until I know what's
[20:13] Speaker 1: going on. I'll keep you updated.
[20:16] Speaker 3: Kenzie moved through the motions of her day, but the
[20:19] Speaker 3: world around her felt dark.
[20:22] Speaker 2: While we're at the parade, I'm sitting on the curb,
[20:24] Speaker 2: slouched over, crying.
[20:26] Speaker 1: And on our way home, we were walking back to
[20:29] Speaker 1: our house and my sister called me and she's like,
[20:31] Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure this was Taylor. I think he just
[20:34] Speaker 1: admitted to me that it was him. Meet me at
[20:36] Speaker 1: mom's house. So we, like, ran home, jumped in the car,
[20:40] Speaker 1: went to my mom's house. The whole way there, I
[20:42] Speaker 1: was telling Parker, I don't want to tell my mom
[20:45] Speaker 1: that I took these pictures. I don't want all this
[20:48] Speaker 1: to come out.
[20:51] Speaker 3: They arrived at their parents' house. Everyone was in celebration mode,
[20:55] Speaker 3: getting ready for the family barbecue. After Taylor admitted what
[20:59] Speaker 3: he'd done, Kenzie's sister didn't want to be around him.
[21:03] Speaker 3: She also didn't want him near Kenzie. She told him
[21:06] Speaker 3: to stay home and skip the 4th of July party.
[21:09] Speaker 3: When she showed up at the barbecue without him, their
[21:12] Speaker 3: mom immediately knew something was wrong.
[21:16] Speaker 1: My mom was like, what did he do? She thought
[21:19] Speaker 1: like Taylor had cheated or he was leaving.
[21:21] Speaker 3: They explained that somehow Taylor had found Kenzie's intimate images.
[21:27] Speaker 3: Worst of all, he'd posted them on the internet along
[21:31] Speaker 3: with her real name. He'd violated her privacy. betrayed her trust,
[21:37] Speaker 3: and put her safety at risk.
[21:40] Speaker 1: And everybody was over because it was the 4th of July,
[21:42] Speaker 1: so my brothers had heard and my dad was there.
[21:44] Speaker 1: I had never really seen my dad cry. But in
[21:48] Speaker 1: that moment, he was just gripping at my mom's shirt,
[21:51] Speaker 1: like screaming into her shoulder. And he was like, why
[21:54] Speaker 1: did he hurt my baby girl?
[21:55] Speaker 2: Why? And he was sobbing and screaming and he was
[21:59] Speaker 2: so hurt and angry.
[22:01] Speaker 3: Seeing her family's reaction, the severity of the situation began
[22:05] Speaker 3: to sink in for Kenzie.
[22:07] Speaker 2: It was just like the world was spinning around me.
[22:11] Speaker 1: Like, oh my gosh, he hurt me, but that hurts
[22:14] Speaker 1: my parents and my husband and my brother was so
[22:17] Speaker 1: mad and all these things.
[22:21] Speaker 3: Her sister was horrified. Her husband, Taylor, wasn't the honorable,
[22:26] Speaker 3: trustworthy man she thought he was. She knew things were
[22:29] Speaker 3: over between them. They were all gathered for a barbecue.
[22:33] Speaker 3: but now nobody felt like celebrating.
[22:37] Speaker 1: We went about our day in a super weird way
[22:41] Speaker 1: and we like had the barbecue in the quiet and
[22:45] Speaker 1: we roasted marshmallows in the quiet.
[22:47] Speaker 2: We were all kind of in shock.
[22:51] Speaker 3: That night, Kenzie couldn't fall asleep. She was sure this
[22:54] Speaker 3: was the worst day of her life. The next day,
[22:57] Speaker 3: Kenzie and her husband had a regularly scheduled couples counseling session.
[23:02] Speaker 1: And We had told the therapist, like, hey, this is
[23:05] Speaker 1: something that came out yesterday and we're not sure how
[23:07] Speaker 1: to handle it. And talked about our fears and what
[23:10] Speaker 1: was going on and what we knew.
[23:12] Speaker 3: After the session, Kenzie checked her phone and saw a
[23:15] Speaker 3: text from another family member. Everyone had been scrambling, trying
[23:20] Speaker 3: to find information and figure out what was going on.
[23:24] Speaker 1: And she said, hey, I found some things last night.
[23:27] Speaker 1: I sent you an email. When you get home, take
[23:31] Speaker 1: a look at it. and we can talk. So I
[23:34] Speaker 1: drove home as fast as I could. I was freaking out, like,
[23:37] Speaker 1: what is going on? What is she going to have
[23:39] Speaker 1: on here? We run inside, and we are sitting on
[23:42] Speaker 1: our bed, and I open this email, and it contained
[23:47] Speaker 1: screenshots of a Twitter account that looked like it was me.
[23:52] Speaker 3: Taylor wasn't just posting photos of Kenzie. He was pretending
[23:56] Speaker 3: to be her. It had only been one day since
[24:19] Speaker 3: Kenzie discovered that her brother-in-law, Taylor, was posting her boudoir
[24:23] Speaker 3: photos on Reddit. But now, she found out, it was
[24:27] Speaker 3: so much darker than that. Taylor had created a Twitter
[24:30] Speaker 3: account using Kenzie's photos. When she saw the profile, her
[24:35] Speaker 3: stomach dropped. Not only was her brother-in-law posting intimate photos
[24:39] Speaker 3: of her online, he was impersonating her, using all of
[24:43] Speaker 3: her real information.
[24:45] Speaker 1: He had created this profile. It had my wedding photo
[24:50] Speaker 1: as my profile picture. It was my full name. It
[24:53] Speaker 1: had my location, my job, my religion, my husband's name.
[24:58] Speaker 1: And so my first thought was, oh my gosh, I'm
[25:02] Speaker 1: in real estate. I'm trying to get a client and
[25:05] Speaker 1: they look me up and that's what they see.
[25:07] Speaker 3: Everything about the profile looked legitimate, except the posts. They
[25:12] Speaker 3: were things Kenzie would never say, disturbing, sexual, and deeply violating.
[25:18] Speaker 1: I remember I was sitting on the bed, and I
[25:20] Speaker 1: opened it, and I screamed. He would post pictures of
[25:26] Speaker 1: me and nude photos of him, and the caption would say, like,
[25:31] Speaker 1: I want my brother-in-law so bad.
[25:35] Speaker 2: It was as if I was saying this. I was shocked.
[25:39] Speaker 1: Horror was all I could feel. All the color drained
[25:42] Speaker 1: from my husband's face. And he was so mad.
[25:47] Speaker 3: The posts mocked things Kenzie cared about the most.
[25:51] Speaker 2: Talking poorly on my religion.
[25:53] Speaker 1: And he put me into these crazy, crazy groups like
[25:58] Speaker 1: Boise Gone Wild.
[26:00] Speaker 2: And none of it is who I am.
[26:02] Speaker 3: Kenzie thought back to that message she'd received months earlier
[26:06] Speaker 3: from the Brigham Young University social media account. Now it
[26:10] Speaker 3: made sense. Taylor had been posting her boudoir photos with
[26:14] Speaker 3: her full name attached. And he was targeting things she
[26:17] Speaker 3: cared about. So he must have posted these photos in
[26:20] Speaker 3: groups affiliated with her religion to humiliate her. Her sister
[26:26] Speaker 3: Brynn was furious. She confronted Taylor about what he'd done.
[26:30] Speaker 1: He didn't really feel much remorse about it. I think
[26:33] Speaker 1: he was more sorry that he was caught than he
[26:35] Speaker 1: was that he had done something wrong. He kind of
[26:38] Speaker 1: tried to make himself the victim. Like, I've been struggling.
[26:42] Speaker 1: This is really hard for me.
[26:44] Speaker 3: Brynn did not feel bad for him. He had violated
[26:48] Speaker 3: her younger sister's privacy and safety.
[26:51] Speaker 1: My sister said, why did you choose Kenzie? Why did
[26:53] Speaker 1: you choose my sister? And he told her, she's always
[26:57] Speaker 1: been so forgiving and so kind that I figured that
[27:01] Speaker 1: if I did this and she found out, it.
[27:02] Speaker 2: Would be okay. Which is crazy. Because, like, yes, I'm kind. Yes,
[27:08] Speaker 2: I'm forgiving. Yes, I'm kind.
[27:09] Speaker 1: But that doesn't excuse these actions. And that doesn't make
[27:14] Speaker 1: me weak.
[27:16] Speaker 3: That night, Kenzie's sister packed her things and moved out
[27:19] Speaker 3: of the house she'd shared with Taylor.
[27:22] Speaker 1: And she had moved in with my parents that night.
[27:25] Speaker 1: She's like, I'm not sleeping in the same house as
[27:27] Speaker 1: that guy. She had, like, taken off her wedding ring.
[27:30] Speaker 1: She was done.
[27:34] Speaker 3: Kenzie and her family all gathered at her parents' house
[27:36] Speaker 3: to figure out what to do.
[27:38] Speaker 2: They had already.
[27:40] Speaker 1: heard about the Twitter accounts and I collapsed in the
[27:44] Speaker 1: living room into my dad's arms and just sobbed for
[27:48] Speaker 1: a good 10 minutes. Just yelling and sobbing and angry
[27:53] Speaker 1: and sad and all the things while my husband like
[27:55] Speaker 1: paced in the kitchen. All of us just had the
[27:58] Speaker 1: same shock.
[28:01] Speaker 3: Taylor had admitted what he'd done, but there were still
[28:05] Speaker 3: so many unanswered questions.
[28:07] Speaker 1: I was like, how did he get these photos? Did
[28:10] Speaker 1: he hack into my email? Did he take my phone?
[28:13] Speaker 1: I'm trying to brainstorm and my sister finally was like, well,
[28:17] Speaker 1: you know that the photographer sent me the link, right?
[28:21] Speaker 3: Kenzie did not know that. In fact, she had no
[28:26] Speaker 3: idea what her sister was talking about. That's when she
[28:29] Speaker 3: learned that back in February, when her sister had set
[28:32] Speaker 3: up her own boudoir photo shoot, The photographer sent her
[28:35] Speaker 3: sister two galleries as a sample of her work, and
[28:39] Speaker 3: one of them was Kenzie's.
[28:42] Speaker 1: I don't think the photographer realized that my sister and
[28:44] Speaker 1: I were related.
[28:45] Speaker 3: This was yet another betrayal of trust. Kenzie's photographer had
[28:50] Speaker 3: shared her intimate photos without ever consulting her.
[28:55] Speaker 1: She didn't even reach out to me. She didn't say,
[28:58] Speaker 1: do you mind if I share this? I felt so
[29:02] Speaker 1: hurt that she just took matters into her own hands
[29:05] Speaker 1: to just send out something very private to who knows
[29:08] Speaker 1: who else, right?
[29:10] Speaker 3: That must be how Taylor got access to Kenzie's photos.
[29:13] Speaker 1: Because the only other way would be for him to, like,
[29:15] Speaker 1: hack into my email. And she's like, he probably just
[29:17] Speaker 1: took my phone. And they knew each other's passwords, so
[29:21] Speaker 1: she figured he might have just gotten in and taken it.
[29:26] Speaker 3: Kenzie immediately contacted the photographer to tell her to stop
[29:30] Speaker 3: sharing her photos. As Kenzie's family kept digging and monitoring
[29:34] Speaker 3: Taylor's profiles, they found Brynn was a victim of Taylor's too.
[29:40] Speaker 3: And the profiles were very active. Taylor had been posting
[29:44] Speaker 3: the night before, even after he'd been caught.
[29:48] Speaker 1: So he had been discovered and he continued to Like
[29:53] Speaker 1: that exact same night to post. And that was the
[29:57] Speaker 1: night that my mom and I decided we need to
[29:59] Speaker 1: go to the cops.
[30:01] Speaker 3: Kenzie and her mom drove to the police station together.
[30:05] Speaker 1: We just walked in and said, listen, this is what happened.
[30:09] Speaker 1: Is this a crime? Can you do something about this?
[30:12] Speaker 1: And this dude was no help. He was like, it
[30:16] Speaker 1: sounds pretty intense, but I don't really know what.
[30:19] Speaker 2: We can do about it.
[30:21] Speaker 3: He did have one suggestion.
[30:23] Speaker 1: He said, how about you go get a flash drive
[30:25] Speaker 1: and put all of your evidence that you have on it?
[30:28] Speaker 3: So Kenzie and her mom ran to the store, put
[30:31] Speaker 3: all their evidence on a flash drive, and rushed it
[30:33] Speaker 3: back to the police station. But the cops didn't seem
[30:37] Speaker 3: to share their urgency. Kenzie could tell they weren't taking
[30:41] Speaker 3: her case seriously.
[30:43] Speaker 1: This is why victims don't come forward. Like, this is
[30:46] Speaker 1: why so many women are affected and their abusers get
[30:49] Speaker 1: to run free. because not all women have the support
[30:53] Speaker 1: to move forward in that way. I was like, I'm
[30:56] Speaker 1: not giving up on this.
[30:57] Speaker 3: She began to think, who else could help in this situation?
[31:02] Speaker 3: That's when she remembered a family she nannied for years back.
[31:06] Speaker 3: The dad was also in the Air Force, at the
[31:09] Speaker 3: same base as Taylor.
[31:11] Speaker 1: And he was a military police officer. So we sat
[31:15] Speaker 1: down with him, and he was horrified, which was... given
[31:21] Speaker 1: that the police officers weren't. And he said, I'm a
[31:25] Speaker 1: mandated reporter, so I have to go tell Taylor's commander
[31:28] Speaker 1: what you told me.
[31:32] Speaker 3: He told Kenzie to expect a phone call from someone
[31:35] Speaker 3: on the base. A few days passed. With nothing to
[31:39] Speaker 3: do but wait, her emotions finally caught up with her.
[31:44] Speaker 1: I think I felt every emotion on the face of
[31:46] Speaker 1: the earth. I felt confused and Kenzie and her sister
[31:51] Speaker 1: waited anxiously for an update.
[31:54] Speaker 3: In the meantime, they found ways to redirect their nervous energy.
[32:24] Speaker 1: My sister and I got yarn and just were like
[32:26] Speaker 1: frantically crocheting for like four days straight. We would sit
[32:30] Speaker 1: there and we would be crocheting and watching a show.
[32:33] Speaker 1: And then we'd pause it and we would talk about everything.
[32:37] Speaker 3: Even though her sister Brynn was done with Taylor, she
[32:40] Speaker 3: wanted to get as much information out of him as
[32:42] Speaker 3: she could. She kept pressing him until he admitted more
[32:46] Speaker 3: of what he'd done.
[32:47] Speaker 1: He did say, that he had shared my photos with
[32:52] Speaker 1: other men. What that means, I'm not sure.
[32:56] Speaker 3: Kenzie's alarm was rising more each day. Almost two weeks
[33:00] Speaker 3: had passed since she reported him to the police, but
[33:03] Speaker 3: she'd heard nothing from them or from the military. So
[33:07] Speaker 3: she took matters into her own hands and reached out
[33:10] Speaker 3: to Taylor's Air Force base herself.
[33:14] Speaker 1: I called, like, them enough that they finally sent me
[33:22] Speaker 1: to the investigators.
[33:23] Speaker 3: The investigators set up an interview. As she explained everything
[33:27] Speaker 3: that had happened, her mind flashed back to the message
[33:31] Speaker 3: her sister received on Facebook right before marrying Taylor, the
[33:35] Speaker 3: one they'd brushed off as a jealous ex. Her message
[33:39] Speaker 3: looked completely different in retrospect.
[33:42] Speaker 1: And I'm whispering to my mom and I was like, man,
[33:44] Speaker 1: I wish we had that girl's information that reached out
[33:47] Speaker 1: to my sister.
[33:49] Speaker 3: Kenzie mentioned the girl's last name to her mom, who
[33:52] Speaker 3: suddenly sat up straighter.
[33:54] Speaker 1: And my mom was like, wait, that last name is
[33:56] Speaker 1: way too familiar. My mom grew up going to church
[34:01] Speaker 1: with this girl's parents. And the investigators just like perked
[34:04] Speaker 1: up and they were like, oh, there's more?
[34:07] Speaker 2: Like what's going on?
[34:07] Speaker 1: So I explained to them, yeah, my sister got this
[34:10] Speaker 1: message and we thought she was just crazy. My mom
[34:12] Speaker 1: actually knows her parents. Like maybe we could talk to
[34:14] Speaker 1: her and figure out what she knows. Like what was
[34:17] Speaker 1: she saying?
[34:20] Speaker 3: The investigators were able to contact the girl who sent
[34:22] Speaker 3: the Facebook message and interview her as part of the investigation.
[34:27] Speaker 3: Kenzie doesn't know the details of what she disclosed, but
[34:31] Speaker 3: it confirmed that Taylor's crimes against Kenzie and Brynn weren't
[34:35] Speaker 3: an isolated act.
[34:37] Speaker 1: She was another crucial part in proving that this was
[34:40] Speaker 1: a pattern of his and that this is something that
[34:43] Speaker 1: had been going on for a while.
[34:45] Speaker 3: The military's investigation into Taylor was in full swing now.
[34:49] Speaker 3: Right away, it became clear that Taylor had been committing
[34:52] Speaker 3: crimes against women for years.
[34:55] Speaker 1: The investigators went to my sister and they said, hey,
[34:57] Speaker 1: did you know that there was a warrant out for
[34:59] Speaker 1: his arrest in Oklahoma? He had done the same thing
[35:01] Speaker 1: in Oklahoma and there's a girl there who's been trying
[35:04] Speaker 1: to press charges, which was crazy to me that he
[35:07] Speaker 1: could be in the military and nobody's getting red flags
[35:11] Speaker 1: raised that there's a warrant out for his arrest.
[35:14] Speaker 3: The investigators let Kenzie and her sister know each time
[35:17] Speaker 3: they identified a new victim.
[35:20] Speaker 1: They would tell us, yep, we found another one. Another
[35:22] Speaker 1: one's been identified. But they wouldn't give us any more information. However,
[35:27] Speaker 1: my sister and I had posted something saying, listen, this
[35:30] Speaker 1: is what happened. This is not okay. We really want
[35:32] Speaker 1: to raise awareness about this.
[35:35] Speaker 3: Another woman saw their post and reached out to Kenzie
[35:38] Speaker 3: and her sister.
[35:39] Speaker 1: And she had said like, hey, I'm also a victim
[35:42] Speaker 1: of Taylor's. And he was actually dating her at the
[35:45] Speaker 1: time that he was dating my sister. So he was
[35:47] Speaker 1: cheating on them with each other.
[35:50] Speaker 3: Kenzie and Brynn connected her with the investigators. The investigation
[35:55] Speaker 3: took a whole year. During that time, Kenzie got pregnant
[35:59] Speaker 3: and gave birth to her first son.
[36:01] Speaker 1: We had found out about so many other victims who
[36:04] Speaker 1: had had very similar things happen to them.
[36:08] Speaker 3: Taylor was following a pattern, targeting women who trusted him,
[36:12] Speaker 3: who knew him well.
[36:14] Speaker 1: The posts that he made were very personal. He knew
[36:18] Speaker 1: my core values and he knew who I was as
[36:20] Speaker 1: a person and he completely violated it. And that was
[36:25] Speaker 1: his thing. Depending on the victim, he would target what
[36:27] Speaker 1: was important to them. This was very intentional and he
[36:31] Speaker 1: meant what he did.
[36:33] Speaker 3: All of Taylor's victims, besides Kenzie, were his romantic partners.
[36:38] Speaker 1: I was the only victim that didn't have an intimate
[36:41] Speaker 1: relationship with him in any sense. And that was what
[36:45] Speaker 1: moved the case forward because... his motives were changing a
[36:48] Speaker 1: little bit. And it wasn't just the women that he
[36:50] Speaker 1: was dating. Now it was anybody.
[36:53] Speaker 3: In the end, the military handed the case over to
[36:56] Speaker 3: the county.
[36:57] Speaker 1: The county was much more willing to take it at
[37:00] Speaker 1: this point because there were so many victims. So we
[37:05] Speaker 1: went in and we met with them and they said,
[37:06] Speaker 1: we're looking at felony charges.
[37:09] Speaker 2: Like this is a big deal.
[37:12] Speaker 3: Over the next year, there were multiple court dates. Kenzie
[37:15] Speaker 3: and her family attended all of them. They wanted to
[37:18] Speaker 3: make it clear they weren't backing down until Taylor was
[37:21] Speaker 3: held accountable. During this time, Kenzie was pregnant with her
[37:25] Speaker 3: second child. Becoming a mom fueled her further to push
[37:29] Speaker 3: for justice in her case.
[37:31] Speaker 1: Having my kids changed everything because I was like, there
[37:35] Speaker 1: is no way that they're going to be adults one
[37:38] Speaker 1: day and they find out about this story and it
[37:41] Speaker 1: ends with me giving up. I can't let that be
[37:44] Speaker 1: the end. I have to do something. I have to
[37:47] Speaker 1: be a voice. I have to make a change.
[37:49] Speaker 3: Taylor Woodland was charged and ultimately convicted of felony video voyeurism.
[37:54] Speaker 3: When it came time for sentencing, Kenzie and Brynn prepared
[37:58] Speaker 3: victim impact statements.
[38:01] Speaker 1: I hadn't addressed him since that 3rd of July, so
[38:05] Speaker 1: many years ago. And so I wanted to go up
[38:07] Speaker 1: and I wanted to show him I'm still here, I'm
[38:09] Speaker 1: still fighting, and I have something to say.
[38:12] Speaker 3: Their family came to court and sat in the front
[38:15] Speaker 3: row to support them.
[38:16] Speaker 1: My sister went up first, and she was so brave
[38:19] Speaker 1: and so strong, and she did it. And I can
[38:23] Speaker 1: hear my dad sobbing behind me, and I'm trying to
[38:25] Speaker 1: hold it together.
[38:26] Speaker 3: Then, Kenzie was called up to share her statement.
[38:31] Speaker 1: When I said, my name is Mackenzie Berry, I'm a
[38:33] Speaker 1: victim of Taylor's, and he was my brother-in-law, the lawyer's
[38:37] Speaker 1: jaws dropped because they were like, what? The first victim
[38:40] Speaker 1: was his wife, and now it's his sister-in-law. And I
[38:44] Speaker 1: had formatted my impact statement to have the first part
[38:50] Speaker 1: be how it impacted me, but then to also address
[38:52] Speaker 1: him and remind him that I'm not weak.
[38:57] Speaker 2: He mistook my kindness for weakness. And you don't get
[39:01] Speaker 2: to get away.
[39:01] Speaker 1: With committing crimes because you think that the woman is nice.
[39:06] Speaker 1: I've been written off for a lot of different reasons
[39:09] Speaker 1: for a long time. And here I am, still fighting,
[39:12] Speaker 1: still standing, and I'm proud of myself for that. You
[39:15] Speaker 1: don't get to make life-changing decisions just because you think
[39:19] Speaker 1: that you'll get away with it.
[39:24] Speaker 3: The judge sentenced Taylor to one year in jail and
[39:27] Speaker 3: nine years of probation.
[39:29] Speaker 2: It felt.
[39:30] Speaker 1: good to have justice in that sense and to have
[39:34] Speaker 1: a little bit of peace knowing that I pushed through
[39:38] Speaker 1: and I was strong and I was brave and now
[39:40] Speaker 1: I get to move on.
[39:42] Speaker 3: The accounts Taylor made have been taken down, but with
[39:46] Speaker 3: digital crimes, justice is not so clean cut.
[39:50] Speaker 1: He gave these photos to other men. Are they doing
[39:53] Speaker 1: something similar? I struggle with not knowing who has them
[39:57] Speaker 1: and why. Will this go on when he gets out
[40:00] Speaker 1: of jail? Will he move on to a different victim?
[40:03] Speaker 3: Taylor's crimes had long-lasting impacts for Kenzie.
[40:09] Speaker 1: It took a toll on so many different parts of
[40:11] Speaker 1: my life that I didn't expect because I wrote it
[40:14] Speaker 1: off and I think a lot of other people wrote
[40:16] Speaker 1: it off as just like something that happened online. it
[40:19] Speaker 1: felt really tricky because he didn't physically abuse me. He
[40:23] Speaker 1: didn't physically touch me at all, but my body responded
[40:27] Speaker 1: as if he had. I would have panic attacks daily,
[40:32] Speaker 1: like full on, I'm not breathing, I need to sit down.
[40:35] Speaker 1: And I started having issues internally in my body and
[40:39] Speaker 1: I have a bad relationship with food and any physical
[40:42] Speaker 1: kind of contact makes my body flare up.
[40:45] Speaker 2: I couldn't get the physical trauma.
[40:49] Speaker 1: To go away.
[40:51] Speaker 3: Kenzie leaned on her family for support and started going
[40:54] Speaker 3: to therapy. Fighting for justice and advocating for herself turned
[40:58] Speaker 3: into a bigger purpose for Kenzie.
[41:01] Speaker 2: After going through this, I really want to work with victims.
[41:04] Speaker 1: I want to go to college because I never had
[41:08] Speaker 1: the chance because I had kids so young and get
[41:11] Speaker 1: a degree in social work and move forward in that way.
[41:17] Speaker 3: Kenzie's relationship with her husband, Parker, has been a grounding
[41:20] Speaker 3: force through everything.
[41:22] Speaker 1: He has consistently been a steady force in my life
[41:26] Speaker 1: through every single up and down. And I finally feel
[41:30] Speaker 1: like I'm kind of getting more steady to where we're like, okay,
[41:32] Speaker 1: we're on the same level again.
[41:34] Speaker 2: We are so deeply in love. We love our family.
[41:38] Speaker 1: And we're really just working towards moving past this betrayal.
[41:43] Speaker 3: Today, Kenzie is still close with her sister, Brent. She
[41:46] Speaker 3: was a victim too, and they leaned on each other
[41:49] Speaker 3: in their grief.
[41:50] Speaker 1: While we went through something similar, we also went through
[41:53] Speaker 1: two different things. She lost a husband and she lost
[41:57] Speaker 1: a lot in that betrayal and that divorce. We've healed
[42:01] Speaker 1: in different ways and we've learned different things about ourselves,
[42:03] Speaker 1: but we're both doing really well.
[42:08] Speaker 3: We end every weekly episode with the same question. Why
[42:12] Speaker 3: do you want to share your story?
[42:15] Speaker 1: I was talking to my mom a couple months ago
[42:16] Speaker 1: and I was telling her, I feel happy knowing that
[42:19] Speaker 1: we pushed through and that we got him a sentence,
[42:21] Speaker 1: but it doesn't feel complete. And my mom was like, well,
[42:25] Speaker 1: there's this podcast that you should reach out to. It
[42:27] Speaker 1: felt like a good first step because this will be
[42:30] Speaker 1: the first very public time that I've shared this story.
[42:34] Speaker 1: I hope that it is the start of something bigger.
[42:38] Speaker 1: This is a good first step in me taking back
[42:40] Speaker 1: my control and in me feeling like, I get to
[42:44] Speaker 1: share my story in my way. And I hope that
[42:48] Speaker 1: it encourages other victims to share their stories in their ways.
[42:55] Speaker 3: This is our last Betrayal Weekly episode for a little while.
