[0:00] Speaker 1: Dude, my wife is so weird. She's up on the
[0:02] Speaker 1: roof right now.
[0:07] Speaker 2: Coming up on Something Major, we're going to give you
[0:10] Speaker 2: a semifinal recap of the men's and the women's event
[0:14] Speaker 2: at Wimbledon. Let's get this going. Let me start that over.
[0:17] Speaker 1: Sorry.
[0:18] Speaker 2: My bad.
[0:19] Speaker 1: All right, here we go.
[0:20] Speaker 2: The Alcaraz part, I missed that. Here we go. Coming
[0:23] Speaker 2: up on Something Major, Sam, stop laughing. We're going to
[0:25] Speaker 2: give you a semifinal recap of the gentlemen's and the ladies' semifinals,
[0:31] Speaker 2: plus a bonus Carlos Alcaraz update. Let's get it going.
[0:35] Speaker 1: Jack Jones, Stevie and Sam. Got close a few times,
[0:39] Speaker 1: never won a slam. Nothing major.
[0:41] Speaker 2: All right, welcome back to Something Major. John Isner here.
[0:44] Speaker 2: I am back. I missed the last episode, Sam. And
[0:48] Speaker 2: Cal Ripken, you guys did, of course, did a great
[0:50] Speaker 2: job holding it down with Sam and Stevie and Charlie
[0:53] Speaker 2: Fox and the team at SIF Creative. Semifinals just concluded.
[0:59] Speaker 2: And especially just right now on the men's side, two
[1:02] Speaker 2: straightforward matches. Let's start with the big one. Sinner versus Novak,
[1:09] Speaker 2: probably the greatest player of all time. Sam, you're over
[1:12] Speaker 2: there doing coverage for this match. Going into this one,
[1:16] Speaker 2: Sinner's likelihood to win was 55%, which made it seem
[1:21] Speaker 2: like this was Almost a pick him. Wasn't the case
[1:24] Speaker 2: at all. What did you see out of center today?
[1:26] Speaker 2: And did you feel like Novak was just flat or
[1:28] Speaker 2: center just flat out too good?
[1:30] Speaker 1: I was a little surprised that center was only a 55%
[1:33] Speaker 1: favorite in this one. I would have had him in
[1:36] Speaker 1: more like a 65. I feel like, like, you know,
[1:39] Speaker 1: two thirds odds to win it. Look, when the draw
[1:42] Speaker 1: came out, everyone wanted this matchup and it's exactly what
[1:45] Speaker 1: we got. Novak necessarily, he didn't look tired to me,
[1:50] Speaker 1: It's just like anytime he hits a good ball, Sinner
[1:53] Speaker 1: is able to absorb the pace and redirect it and
[1:56] Speaker 1: do whatever he wants with it. He can attack off
[1:58] Speaker 1: both sides. Novak would hit a deep ball to the
[2:00] Speaker 1: Sinner backhand. Sinner will plant on the left foot. Even
[2:03] Speaker 1: a ball that Novak hits two feet from the line,
[2:05] Speaker 1: stay down and either hit it cross court or down
[2:07] Speaker 1: the line. Sinner has looked up until this point, Sinner
[2:10] Speaker 1: I feel like was kind of playing meh for Sinner
[2:12] Speaker 1: standards up through four matches. That all changed today. That
[2:17] Speaker 1: was like, Sinner from the spring when he won all
[2:20] Speaker 1: the Masters Series, pretty much flawless, executed on both sides,
[2:24] Speaker 1: served great. And yet Novak never was able to get
[2:28] Speaker 1: his claws or his teeth into this match.
[2:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Sinner was fantastic. He was an amazing on-serve,
[2:34] Speaker 2: didn't have a double fall in the match, had 12
[2:37] Speaker 2: or 14 aces, something like that. Stevie, this was the
[2:40] Speaker 2: Sinner that we're accustomed to seeing, right? And I think, Sam,
[2:44] Speaker 2: you said it perfectly. He wasn't playing that great prior
[2:47] Speaker 2: to this match. This for sure was his best match
[2:49] Speaker 2: of the tournament. What do you think about it, Stevie?
[2:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely. This was Sinner's great best match of the
[2:54] Speaker 3: tournament so far. I mean, nobody expected that the toughest
[2:57] Speaker 3: Serbian he would play would be in round one 12
[2:59] Speaker 3: days ago and catch Monovich in five sets. I mean,
[3:04] Speaker 3: this was straightforward. Novak didn't seem like he could do anything, right?
[3:08] Speaker 3: And that's just weird to see, but understandable with the
[3:11] Speaker 3: match that he had with Felix a couple days prior.
[3:14] Speaker 3: But this looked like Sinner back to where Sinner has played.
[3:17] Speaker 3: The movement's incredible. I mean, the way he's able to
[3:20] Speaker 3: slide into his back hands on the grass, stop on
[3:23] Speaker 3: a dime, be completely in control of his body at
[3:26] Speaker 3: all times. It looks like he's doing, you know, what
[3:30] Speaker 3: Novak did in his, you know, like it just felt
[3:32] Speaker 3: like it was somewhat of a mirror image of how
[3:34] Speaker 3: well Novak is able to move on the grass. Sinner's
[3:36] Speaker 3: now just kind of taken over that mantle. He's never
[3:39] Speaker 3: out of position. He just looks so comfortable out there.
[3:41] Speaker 3: And there was nothing Novak could do from the ground today.
[3:43] Speaker 1: Like just, nothing john let me ask you a question
[3:47] Speaker 1: do you think do you feel like they play a
[3:49] Speaker 1: first set and novak actually plays all right i almost
[3:52] Speaker 1: feel like novak looks a little like defeated in his
[3:55] Speaker 1: face like yeah i lose that first set six four
[3:58] Speaker 1: i actually play all right but like i'm not like
[4:01] Speaker 1: i how am i going to win three sets against
[4:03] Speaker 1: this guy i don't know if he actually after losing
[4:05] Speaker 1: the first set i don't actually know if novak believes
[4:08] Speaker 1: that he can win as great as he is Three
[4:11] Speaker 1: sets against Sinner in that moment.
[4:12] Speaker 2: What I saw from just watching on TV was I
[4:16] Speaker 2: saw that look after the second set. I mean, I
[4:19] Speaker 2: think one of the key points in this match was
[4:22] Speaker 2: Sinner getting up that early break in the second set.
[4:24] Speaker 2: And after he goes up two sets to love, his
[4:26] Speaker 2: likelihood to win was shot all the way up to 85%,
[4:29] Speaker 2: which I think was about accurate. But early in that
[4:31] Speaker 2: third set, to me, it's crazy to say this. Novak looked...
[4:36] Speaker 2: a little bit defeated. And when he got broken in
[4:38] Speaker 2: the third set, it was on a serving volley. Like
[4:41] Speaker 2: Novak doesn't do that, right? It was a serving volley.
[4:44] Speaker 2: Didn't really hit his spot in the box on the serve.
[4:47] Speaker 2: So serving volley to center's pocket backhand. Of course he
[4:50] Speaker 2: got the return down low like he always does. Novak
[4:54] Speaker 2: missed a volley for center to go up that early
[4:56] Speaker 2: break in the third set. Sam, I kind of felt
[4:59] Speaker 2: that as well. Um, and it was just, it's just
[5:02] Speaker 2: Novak's pace of ball from the back of the court.
[5:04] Speaker 2: I mean, he, I was such a good ball striker,
[5:06] Speaker 2: but couldn't hit any clean winners from the back of
[5:08] Speaker 2: the court. I mean, couldn't even, couldn't even hit shots
[5:11] Speaker 2: to where center was completely on the defense because center
[5:14] Speaker 2: was just everywhere sliding out of the corners on the grass. Um, Yeah,
[5:20] Speaker 2: so impressive. I thought the two days was really going
[5:22] Speaker 2: to help Novak. Stevie, what did you think about that?
[5:24] Speaker 2: I mean, the two days and, well, not really. Going
[5:26] Speaker 2: second today, I think, was an interesting choice. A lot
[5:28] Speaker 2: of people would, I think, agree. I think the two
[5:32] Speaker 2: days rest after his grueling five-setter over O.J. Ali's seam
[5:35] Speaker 2: would have helped him. But I don't think it was
[5:37] Speaker 2: a physical thing for Novak. I just think he was
[5:39] Speaker 2: totally outclassed.
[5:40] Speaker 1: What do you think, Stevie?
[5:41] Speaker 3: Yeah, this is just outclassed. I mean, Novak's played 460-something
[5:47] Speaker 3: Grand Slam matches, and this is, I believe, the 14th
[5:49] Speaker 3: time he's lost in straight sets. So it doesn't happen
[5:52] Speaker 3: too often. And a few of those guys are Roger, Rafa, right? Like,
[5:56] Speaker 3: you know, arguably the other greatest of all times. You
[6:00] Speaker 3: just wanted Novak. I mean, you want Novak to get
[6:02] Speaker 3: to 25, I think. I mean, this is his best
[6:05] Speaker 3: surface to get it on. This is the best way
[6:07] Speaker 3: he's going to do it. Felix took a lot out
[6:09] Speaker 3: of him, but he's just unfortunately outclassed right now by Sinner,
[6:13] Speaker 3: which it's an age thing. I'd love to see Novak
[6:18] Speaker 3: 10 years ago and Sinner now, obviously, and see what
[6:20] Speaker 3: would happen. I think we all would, but there's nothing
[6:23] Speaker 3: he can do unless Sinner loses that match or he
[6:27] Speaker 3: gets hurt, the heat bothers him. The serve goes completely sideways.
[6:32] Speaker 3: He needs all of that to like have a chance,
[6:34] Speaker 3: which is hard to say.
[6:35] Speaker 2: He's in a weird spot, don't you think, Sam? Like
[6:39] Speaker 2: he's like a part-time player. He makes semifinals of every slam.
[6:44] Speaker 2: Yet there's two guys, of course, that are really, really
[6:48] Speaker 2: difficult for him to be the two guys that no
[6:50] Speaker 2: one can really beat. Zverev's up there as well. Now
[6:52] Speaker 2: we'll talk about him in a little bit. But I mean,
[6:54] Speaker 2: it's just sort of a weird thing. I mean, how
[6:56] Speaker 2: many tournaments has he played this year? He's played like
[6:58] Speaker 2: five tournaments maybe?
[7:00] Speaker 1: And even though like in Australia, he beat Sinner, it's
[7:02] Speaker 1: like Alcaraz is waiting on the other side of the mountain.
[7:05] Speaker 1: So it's like, there's such a huge gap. You know,
[7:08] Speaker 1: Zverev's up there now too, but like assuming Djokovic doesn't
[7:11] Speaker 1: play Zverev, like Djokovic and everyone else, there's still like
[7:13] Speaker 1: a big gap. But then for him to, he's got
[7:16] Speaker 1: to beat, beat them both. Just like back in the day,
[7:18] Speaker 1: you had to beat like Fed Nadal or Djokovic Nadal.
[7:20] Speaker 1: That was like insurmountable. Now beating Zverev and Djok, sorry,
[7:25] Speaker 1: beating Sinner and Alcaraz is, is even kind of insurmountable
[7:29] Speaker 1: for the great Njokovic.
[7:31] Speaker 2: But even for this tournament, having to beat Sinner and Zverev,
[7:34] Speaker 2: like as good as Zverev's playing. Yeah, but what he's
[7:39] Speaker 2: doing right now is absurd. I mean, like Jimmy Connors
[7:42] Speaker 2: had this run at 39 or 40 years. Remember that
[7:44] Speaker 2: US Open run? And it's like, it's lived in lore forever,
[7:47] Speaker 2: but Novak does it and it's like, eh.
[7:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's way more physical now than no offense
[7:52] Speaker 1: to Jimmy Connors. It's like physicality now.
[7:55] Speaker 2: By the way, Jimmy Connors' run was so legendary. His
[7:57] Speaker 2: points were unbelievable. But we've just become accustomed to Novak's
[8:01] Speaker 2: greatness so much that he could do this next year
[8:03] Speaker 2: at 40, losing the semifinals. It's like, okay. It's just
[8:08] Speaker 2: remarkable what he's doing. But, yeah, I mean, it was
[8:13] Speaker 2: just too tough for him. I mean, only generating one
[8:15] Speaker 2: break point. This shows how good Sinner was today. Stevie,
[8:18] Speaker 2: what do you think?
[8:19] Speaker 3: I mean, you guys mentioned, like, you know, the physicality
[8:21] Speaker 3: of it all. Or beating, you know, a Sinner, then
[8:24] Speaker 3: a Zverev, or a Sinner, then an Alcaraz. I just
[8:26] Speaker 3: don't think he has it in him. Because, I mean,
[8:27] Speaker 3: if you go back to January this year in Australia,
[8:30] Speaker 3: you know, gets through the first three rounds, straight sets,
[8:33] Speaker 3: gets a withdrawal in round four, down two sets to Musetti,
[8:36] Speaker 3: then he withdraws, right? Then he goes and lets it
[8:39] Speaker 3: all on the line, beats Sinner in that, you know,
[8:42] Speaker 3: epic five-setter, and then kind of a ho-hum loss to
[8:44] Speaker 3: Alcaraz in the final, right?
[8:45] Speaker 2: So.
[8:46] Speaker 3: even with like a week off in the middle of
[8:48] Speaker 3: a slam, he still didn't have enough gas in the
[8:51] Speaker 3: tank to get through both. So it's just, it's not
[8:53] Speaker 3: getting any easier. It's, I don't think, I mean, I
[8:57] Speaker 3: just don't think he's getting to 25 unless he gets
[8:59] Speaker 3: some serious help.
[9:00] Speaker 1: This isn't us dogging Novak, by the way.
[9:02] Speaker 2: No, no, no.
[9:03] Speaker 1: I don't want people to think that like this is
[9:05] Speaker 1: like just too big of an ass and the dude
[9:07] Speaker 1: is incredible. Yeah, exactly.
[9:09] Speaker 2: Exactly.
[9:09] Speaker 3: The amount he has to climb now is Everest on steroids.
[9:14] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, and we thought, like, we talked about this
[9:16] Speaker 2: at the beginning of the year. Like, his last, I
[9:18] Speaker 2: think we all agreed that his last best chance to
[9:20] Speaker 2: win a major was this Wimbledon.
[9:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, we're going to get to the US Open and
[9:23] Speaker 1: be like, this is going to be his last best
[9:25] Speaker 1: chance to win a major.
[9:26] Speaker 2: Yeah, but, you know, this surface in particular. Yeah. For Novak,
[9:30] Speaker 2: but unbelievable run. What he did against Felix, 7-6 in
[9:33] Speaker 2: the fifth. It's just legendary stuff from the guy.
[9:35] Speaker 1: It's so good.
[9:37] Speaker 2: We'll see what he does going forward, see how he
[9:40] Speaker 2: prepares for the U.S. Open.
[9:42] Speaker 3: You think that's it for him at Wimbledon? Kind of
[9:43] Speaker 3: a quick walk-off.
[9:44] Speaker 2: I don't think so. I don't think so.
[9:45] Speaker 1: I'm saying he's going to be back.
[9:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll be back. He's targeting these. He said a
[9:49] Speaker 2: long time ago he wants to play the Olympics again.
[9:51] Speaker 2: That's longer than that, so we'll see. I don't think so.
[9:53] Speaker 1: This year in slams, he has a final and a semi.
[9:55] Speaker 1: It's like a phenomenal year. Exactly.
[9:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
[9:58] Speaker 2: Yeah. He's like probably fifth in the race and he's
[10:01] Speaker 2: played four tournaments.
[10:02] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[10:03] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[10:03] Speaker 3: Like five this year.
[10:04] Speaker 1: Five.
[10:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Unbelievable. All right. Well, just incredible stuff.
[10:08] Speaker 2: Let's move on to the next semifinal, which was the
[10:10] Speaker 2: first one today. Zverev over Arthur Ferry, obviously the surprise
[10:15] Speaker 2: of the tournament, the story of the tournament so far,
[10:18] Speaker 2: the wild card ranked, 113 or 114, make it all
[10:21] Speaker 2: the way to the semifinals. Sam, I'm going to start
[10:26] Speaker 2: with you on this one. Zverev's just ridiculously good right now.
[10:30] Speaker 2: Totally outclassed Ferry. There's nothing really Ferry could do. When
[10:33] Speaker 2: Zverev plays like that and serves like that, what can
[10:36] Speaker 2: you do?
[10:36] Speaker 1: It was going to be an issue for Ferry because
[10:38] Speaker 1: Ferry all tournament, I think I saw this, 85% of returns,
[10:42] Speaker 1: he was hitting inside the baseline. But the average first
[10:46] Speaker 1: serve he was facing during the week was during the
[10:49] Speaker 1: two weeks was 119 miles an hour. Zverev's second serve
[10:52] Speaker 1: average this week is 116.
[10:53] Speaker 2: That's good. That's good information right there.
[10:56] Speaker 1: Ferry, what he wants to do is stand inside the baseline,
[10:59] Speaker 1: time the ball early and attack. Zverev simply serves too
[11:02] Speaker 1: big for him to do that. And it's too high.
[11:05] Speaker 1: Ferry's only 5'9. I saw it too, like the apex
[11:08] Speaker 1: where he was making contact with Zverev's serves was at 5'3,
[11:10] Speaker 1: which is like around his head. You can't possibly stand
[11:13] Speaker 1: in three more feet and time that gigantic serve of Zverev's.
[11:17] Speaker 1: And so that was such a big ask for Ferry already.
[11:20] Speaker 1: So then he had to retreat 10 feet behind the
[11:22] Speaker 1: baseline on return and try to play from there. But
[11:24] Speaker 1: that's not his natural game style. Even though that first
[11:27] Speaker 1: set was kind of back and forth, they exchanged breaks.
[11:30] Speaker 1: Zverev was a little nervous, honestly, probably. It was one
[11:33] Speaker 1: of those, I feel like in the back of his head,
[11:34] Speaker 1: he's like, I can just resort to a baseline and
[11:38] Speaker 1: win this match pretty easily. The run for Ferry was incredible,
[11:41] Speaker 1: but Zverev is serving huge. The serve stats this week
[11:46] Speaker 1: are ridiculous as far as percentage and speed. And he's
[11:49] Speaker 1: ripping the ball in the backhand like he always does.
[11:51] Speaker 1: He's ripping the forehand. He looks great. He hasn't been
[11:55] Speaker 1: challenged yet. I'll be curious to see in the final.
[11:59] Speaker 1: What does he do when he's down a set and
[12:02] Speaker 1: it's 1-2, 30-40? Because he hasn't had a moment really
[12:05] Speaker 1: in this tournament where he's even been remotely stressed.
[12:08] Speaker 2: I think in the first round against blocks, that was
[12:11] Speaker 2: a tough first round. But that was a good, tough match,
[12:14] Speaker 2: much like center to get through. And he's absolutely cruised
[12:17] Speaker 2: since then. But yeah, his serving stats are absurd. He
[12:18] Speaker 2: was over 70% again today. I mean, what are you
[12:21] Speaker 2: going to do on the grass? He's moving so well,
[12:23] Speaker 2: returning so well. His likelihood to win pre-match was 83%.
[12:27] Speaker 2: Kind of felt like that's pretty accurate. It was just
[12:30] Speaker 2: a matchup issue for Ferry, Stevie, don't you think? Um,
[12:35] Speaker 2: and also I guess, um, what was your take on
[12:38] Speaker 2: the match, Stevie? And also like going forward is, is
[12:41] Speaker 2: I'm not going to say Ferry's like going to be
[12:43] Speaker 2: repeating grand slam semifinals, but what, what do you type
[12:46] Speaker 2: of player do you think he can ultimately end up
[12:48] Speaker 2: being ranking wise?
[12:50] Speaker 3: Um, that's a good question. I mean, that's obviously what's
[12:54] Speaker 3: going to, he's got 12 months now to really put
[12:56] Speaker 3: his foot down and to just gain points week after week.
[12:59] Speaker 3: He's going to be in all the big tournaments, right?
[13:01] Speaker 3: He's top 40 now, if I'm not mistaken in the
[13:03] Speaker 3: live rankings. Um, so he's going to be in, I
[13:07] Speaker 3: think he'll be in Cincinnati. I think the Montreal cut
[13:10] Speaker 3: is already done. So he'll be in Cincinnati, US Open, Shanghai, Paris, Basel.
[13:14] Speaker 3: I mean, he's going to be in all the big tournaments.
[13:15] Speaker 3: So he should play every event and just see where
[13:18] Speaker 3: it can take him.
[13:19] Speaker 1: Right.
[13:19] Speaker 3: And we saw Vachero do that last year. He wins Shanghai,
[13:22] Speaker 3: gets his opportunity. And now look at him. He's pretty
[13:24] Speaker 3: much firmly supplanted himself in the top 25 or 30.
[13:26] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[13:27] Speaker 3: You know, it feels like, so he has the ability.
[13:30] Speaker 3: If the confidence can be there, he's a confident kid,
[13:32] Speaker 3: you know, coming from Stanford, he's had some injury issues.
[13:37] Speaker 3: That's why I don't think he's popped off maybe as
[13:39] Speaker 3: quickly as he would have liked. But he's got a
[13:43] Speaker 3: long runway in the next 12 months to take care
[13:45] Speaker 3: of business and keep himself firmly in the top 50
[13:48] Speaker 3: and make a great career for him. Sam mentioned it,
[13:51] Speaker 3: I think, on the other side of the net, though,
[13:52] Speaker 3: for Zverev. He was hitting his forehand insane today. And
[13:55] Speaker 3: if that's the case, that's going to be the one side. Obviously,
[14:00] Speaker 3: the volleys aren't his strong suit. But if there's a
[14:02] Speaker 3: side that's maybe weaker or not as potent, that was
[14:06] Speaker 3: not the case in the last few days. His forehand
[14:08] Speaker 3: is insane. That's what I noticed most about watching Alex
[14:11] Speaker 3: Zverev play is the serve's great. The backhand's always going
[14:13] Speaker 3: to be there. But the forehand is money. He's hitting
[14:15] Speaker 3: winners from the middle of the court, which he never
[14:17] Speaker 3: usually does. So it's a great sign for him.
[14:20] Speaker 2: The forehand's not as loopy.
[14:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, this Zverev rally ball is so good right now.
[14:25] Speaker 3: It's penetrating. It's going through the court. It's got good
[14:28] Speaker 3: margin to it. If that can get to the next level,
[14:33] Speaker 3: then you start questioning if maybe he's part of that
[14:36] Speaker 3: Alcaraz-Sinner dynamic.
[14:39] Speaker 2: That's what he, that was his quote, remember?
[14:41] Speaker 3: Yeah, but I mean, like, if he wins Wimbledon.
[14:43] Speaker 2: No, no, he said Sinner, and then there's Alcraz and him.
[14:48] Speaker 3: That was a pre-French Open title.
[14:50] Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
[14:51] Speaker 3: And that was after, like, an absolute shellacking. So, good
[14:54] Speaker 3: confidence back then.
[14:55] Speaker 1: If he wins the final, temporarily he can kind of
[14:58] Speaker 1: say he's in that group winning back-to-back majors. I would.
[15:01] Speaker 3: I'd put him in that group. If he beats Sinner
[15:03] Speaker 3: in the final.
[15:03] Speaker 1: If he beats Sinner in the final.
[15:04] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[15:05] Speaker 1: I'll put you in the group for now.
[15:07] Speaker 3: I'm with you. I'm with you. You're never wrong. You're
[15:09] Speaker 3: just early on a take, right?
[15:11] Speaker 2: Yes. One match away from the channel slam. Never heard
[15:15] Speaker 2: of that, but you know. No.
[15:16] Speaker 1: Is that the suits putting that in? Are they making
[15:18] Speaker 1: that up?
[15:18] Speaker 2: The suits putting that in. I kind of like it, actually.
[15:21] Speaker 1: I think the suits made that up. That's the stupidest
[15:25] Speaker 1: thing I've ever heard.
[15:26] Speaker 2: No, I kind of like it.
[15:27] Speaker 3: The channel slam.
[15:29] Speaker 1: No one knows what that means.
[15:31] Speaker 2: I think they do. Yeah. I think they do.
[15:33] Speaker 1: I just got to think of something better.
[15:35] Speaker 2: But going into this match, No. 1 seed versus No.
[15:40] Speaker 2: 2 seed, center leads are head-to-head, 10-4. But most importantly,
[15:44] Speaker 2: he's won the last nine in a row, and he's
[15:46] Speaker 2: put some beatdowns on Zverev. Madrid comes to mind. Aussie
[15:52] Speaker 2: Open Finals comes to mind. Obviously, Zverev exercised the Fritz
[16:00] Speaker 2: demon in the semifinals, lost seven in a row. Sinner
[16:04] Speaker 2: will be the favorite going into this match. What type
[16:07] Speaker 2: of chance, Sam, do you give Zverev to take down
[16:12] Speaker 2: the Wimbledon title on Sunday?
[16:15] Speaker 1: Fritz and Zverev played. Fritz had won seven in a row.
[16:18] Speaker 1: Going into that, before Fritz had got hurt, I mean,
[16:19] Speaker 1: we talked about it. I was like, it feels like
[16:21] Speaker 1: a 50-50. This one, even though Sinner's won nine in
[16:24] Speaker 1: a row, I'm not saying it's a 50-50, but it
[16:27] Speaker 1: feels like I'm kind of going Sinner, but like 55-45. Zverev, Again,
[16:33] Speaker 1: the serve is just so good. If he serves over 70%,
[16:37] Speaker 1: he's just so difficult to beat. And if you get
[16:40] Speaker 1: to a tiebreaker, it's just the margin is so slim
[16:42] Speaker 1: that he can win one. He can win two. So
[16:45] Speaker 1: I do think he needs to play like flawless tennis
[16:48] Speaker 1: and have that serve percentage. 75% close to that. And
[16:54] Speaker 1: then on the forehand side is the winners to errors
[16:58] Speaker 1: ratio on the forehand side in the positive for him.
[17:01] Speaker 1: if he does those two things, I honestly think he's
[17:04] Speaker 1: got a, he's got a shot to win this.
[17:06] Speaker 2: I'm with you, Stevie. What do you think? I mean,
[17:08] Speaker 2: it's all about the serve. If he can serve in
[17:09] Speaker 2: the seventies, like he has.
[17:10] Speaker 1: Been, it's like, we don't have to worry about that.
[17:13] Speaker 1: I think he's just going to do it.
[17:14] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:15] Speaker 3: Does, does the confidence of him winning a slam outweigh
[17:17] Speaker 3: the confidence that center has in the dominance he's shown
[17:21] Speaker 3: over severe right now? Because that means there's not winning
[17:24] Speaker 3: games against him in the last 13 months. He's not
[17:27] Speaker 3: winning games. I mean, The scoreline, some of them are 0-1, 4-3, 2-4, 3-6, 1-4, 1-2.
[17:34] Speaker 3: I mean, these are as routine as they come. So
[17:37] Speaker 3: I think the start for Zverev is imperative. I mean,
[17:39] Speaker 3: it's as cliche as you can get. But if he
[17:41] Speaker 3: can knock it down in early break, you know, in
[17:45] Speaker 3: the first set and the second set, like, and keep
[17:46] Speaker 3: it competitive, then I like it. But if Sinner gets
[17:50] Speaker 3: going one-way traffic, it could be trouble. But I don't know,
[17:55] Speaker 3: you know, because, like, there's two massive– confidence boost going
[17:59] Speaker 3: for both these guys. He just won a slam. Sinner
[18:02] Speaker 3: owns him. So where do they land? They're both playing
[18:04] Speaker 3: good tennis. I think Zverev's playing better tennis for his
[18:06] Speaker 3: standards than Sinner is. It's fun.
[18:11] Speaker 2: I'm going to be interested to see the likelihood to
[18:15] Speaker 2: win pre-match that IBM comes up with. I'm with you, Sam.
[18:21] Speaker 2: I think Zverev's in with a really good chance. If
[18:25] Speaker 2: he doesn't have a slam under his belt... then I'm
[18:28] Speaker 2: thinking this is one-way traffic. The mental hurdle is too
[18:30] Speaker 2: much to overcome. He is playing with that freedom right now.
[18:34] Speaker 2: What he's done is so incredible. We've talked about it,
[18:37] Speaker 2: but I'm just so impressed with him and his durability.
[18:40] Speaker 2: The guy has a lot of miles on his body,
[18:42] Speaker 2: and he's still doing it. He's been healthy for so long,
[18:44] Speaker 2: apart from that one injury against Rafa at Roland Garros.
[18:49] Speaker 2: If Sinner plays like how he played the first four
[18:51] Speaker 2: matches of the tournament, like Zverev beats him. If Sinner
[18:54] Speaker 2: plays how he played against Aiden Snowback, it's going to
[18:56] Speaker 2: be tough.
[18:56] Speaker 3: But I think, I mean, if Zverev goes down an
[18:59] Speaker 3: early like 4-1 double break, I'm like, it could be
[19:02] Speaker 3: one-way traffic. Just with how the scorelines have gone, I think.
[19:06] Speaker 3: But Zverev's playing his best tennis of his life, I think.
[19:09] Speaker 3: So I don't see that being the case, but we'll see.
[19:13] Speaker 1: Here's one thing I can guarantee. Tonight, they're both going
[19:16] Speaker 1: to be laying in their beds. They're going to have
[19:18] Speaker 1: NordVPN going. They're not going to miss out on their
[19:21] Speaker 1: favorite TV shows. I'm doing the same thing. I've been
[19:23] Speaker 1: over here for two weeks. I have not missed a
[19:25] Speaker 1: single thing with NordVPN.
[19:26] Speaker 2: That's exactly right, Sam. Especially this time of year, we
[19:29] Speaker 2: have Wimbledon going on. There's great matches on all day
[19:32] Speaker 2: and you can't miss big moments like the Wimby finals.
[19:35] Speaker 3: And I've had this happen before traveling. You want to
[19:37] Speaker 3: watch your match live, your usual streaming platform, ready to watch.
[19:40] Speaker 3: And suddenly it's just not available in your region. Not
[19:43] Speaker 3: with North VPN.
[19:44] Speaker 1: Nothing worse, right? You're watching a TV show. Boom. You
[19:46] Speaker 1: switch regions and you try to watch it's like can't
[19:48] Speaker 1: watch it there is nothing worse than that that is
[19:51] Speaker 1: not an issue with nord vpn.
[19:53] Speaker 2: Yep That's what they're the best in the game. It
[19:55] Speaker 2: lets you switch your virtual location when you're traveling. So
[19:58] Speaker 2: you can access the content that may not be available
[20:01] Speaker 2: in your region. All this stuff is regional. Exactly what
[20:04] Speaker 2: we're talking about. For example, if there's a sporting event,
[20:06] Speaker 2: a TV show or a film you want to watch
[20:08] Speaker 2: while you're away, you can connect to a country where
[20:12] Speaker 2: it's available and keep up with what you love.
[20:15] Speaker 3: And NordVPN is more than just a VPN. It's an
[20:17] Speaker 3: all-in-one digital security solution that combines multiple cybersecurity features to
[20:21] Speaker 3: help protect your online life. It encrypts your internet connection,
[20:24] Speaker 3: helps you keep your browsing private, includes built-in next-generation antivirus
[20:29] Speaker 3: protection that blocks threats before they reach your device, not after.
[20:32] Speaker 1: It protects against anything, even malware. I don't even know
[20:34] Speaker 1: what malware is, but it sounds awful. And NordVPN will
[20:38] Speaker 1: protect you against malware, dangerous websites, you know, everything. NordVPN
[20:43] Speaker 1: is there. And it's not just on the public Wi-Fi.
[20:46] Speaker 1: It will protect you at all times. Remember back in
[20:49] Speaker 1: the day, remember Napster? We used to download Napster stuff.
[20:53] Speaker 1: You get the worst viruses on our computer. But anyway,
[20:55] Speaker 1: back to NordVPN.
[20:58] Speaker 2: It really has solved the travel situation for us. There's
[21:01] Speaker 2: no scrambling. There's no missing out. You just log in,
[21:05] Speaker 2: watch whatever you want to watch, like normal, like you're
[21:08] Speaker 2: At home, in front of your own TV, there's way
[21:10] Speaker 2: less stress.
[21:11] Speaker 3: What's also great is that you can use the same
[21:13] Speaker 3: account across multiple devices, your phone, tablet, laptop, whatever you want,
[21:16] Speaker 3: same password.
[21:17] Speaker 1: To get the best discount off your NordVPN plan, go
[21:20] Speaker 1: to nordvpn.com slash nothing major. Our link also gives you
[21:24] Speaker 1: an extra four months free on the two-year plan, and
[21:27] Speaker 1: there's no risk with Nord's 30-day money-back guarantee. So head
[21:30] Speaker 1: to nordvpn.com slash nothing major or click the link in
[21:34] Speaker 1: the description of this podcast.
[21:36] Speaker 2: Good stuff, Nord. But do you remember Napster? We used
[21:38] Speaker 2: to have those big, like giant computers and you'd download
[21:42] Speaker 2: some stuff on that. The computer completely shut down.
[21:45] Speaker 1: I mean, John, you, Stevie, you might be a little,
[21:48] Speaker 1: you're younger than us. Like I had to plug the
[21:51] Speaker 1: phone wire into the computer to download something on Napster.
[21:53] Speaker 1: So you couldn't call the house phone, like the landline
[21:55] Speaker 1: for like the two hours where you were like, plugged
[21:57] Speaker 1: into like Napster on the internet.
[22:01] Speaker 2: We've come a long way. We've come a long way. Anyway,
[22:03] Speaker 2: thank you, Nord. As mentioned in the beginning of the show,
[22:06] Speaker 2: little Carlos Alcaraz update. He's posted some stuff on Instagram,
[22:10] Speaker 2: which has a lot of the fans happy to see. Unfortunately,
[22:14] Speaker 2: he is out of Montreal, which is the next big
[22:18] Speaker 2: 1000 event. That's one of the best 1000s in my mind.
[22:22] Speaker 2: But it also coincided with him talking about these posts
[22:25] Speaker 2: of him on the court Most importantly, hitting forehands, albeit
[22:30] Speaker 2: very lightly, not hitting live balls yet, but his wrist
[22:35] Speaker 2: does seem to be progressing. This is just good news
[22:40] Speaker 2: for everyone, is it not, Stevie?
[22:41] Speaker 3: It's great news for everyone. We want to see Carlos back,
[22:44] Speaker 3: but at the same time, we need to see Carlos healthy.
[22:48] Speaker 3: Do not come back before you are 100%, 200% healthy
[22:51] Speaker 3: because a right wrist injury, you do not want to linger.
[22:54] Speaker 3: I would like to see him playing another 15 years.
[22:57] Speaker 3: not a struggle for the next five. So take as
[22:59] Speaker 3: long as you'd like, but it is great sign to
[23:02] Speaker 3: see him back and get you excited.
[23:04] Speaker 1: Get you excited.
[23:04] Speaker 3: Maybe US Open, maybe Cincinnati.
[23:07] Speaker 2: You got to imagine his target, Cincinnati.
[23:09] Speaker 3: I don't think he plays US Open. Your first event
[23:12] Speaker 3: seems like a high stress three out of five.
[23:14] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[23:15] Speaker 3: I'm not 22 or 23 years old.
[23:16] Speaker 2: Maybe Winston-Salem, guys?
[23:18] Speaker 3: Probably not.
[23:18] Speaker 1: That'd be crazy.
[23:20] Speaker 2: Stay at the Marriott?
[23:22] Speaker 1: I don't think he plays anything until he's been like
[23:24] Speaker 1: practicing at 100% for like a full month at least.
[23:30] Speaker 3: I mean, if he misses the US Open, just skip
[23:32] Speaker 3: the year.
[23:33] Speaker 2: Totally.
[23:33] Speaker 1: If he missed the whole year, that's fine. We'll take the–
[23:35] Speaker 1: Skip it. Miss the whole year to give us a
[23:37] Speaker 1: guaranteed five more years of healthy Carlos starting next year.
[23:40] Speaker 2: Yeah. Like if he misses the US Open, we're going
[23:43] Speaker 2: to miss him badly. But once Shanghai rolls around, like
[23:46] Speaker 2: you want him just to be taking.
[23:47] Speaker 3: Care of his health. You're like, ah, no surprise he's
[23:49] Speaker 3: not playing. Everyone wants to skip that one.
[23:51] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[23:51] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[23:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, hopefully Cincinnati. Got to imagine
[23:57] Speaker 2: that's what him and his team are targeting. So we've
[24:00] Speaker 2: gone to the women's semifinals. We got to start with
[24:03] Speaker 2: probably what's the best semifinal matchup of the slate, the
[24:07] Speaker 2: women's and the men's. The Mohova absolute rollercoaster match over
[24:13] Speaker 2: Coco Gauff. We all saw it. 7-6 in the third,
[24:17] Speaker 2: 12-10 in the super breaker. Two hours and 35 minutes.
[24:21] Speaker 2: Cocoa Golf losing in just heartbreaking fashion. We know that.
[24:26] Speaker 2: forehand dropper she missed on match point sam once again
[24:29] Speaker 2: you being over there just how dramatic was this match.
[24:32] Speaker 1: Uh this was the best of the four semifinals like
[24:34] Speaker 1: you said i mean we can just skip everything until
[24:37] Speaker 1: the tiebreaker started that tiebreaker was the most amazing one
[24:41] Speaker 1: of the most amazing tiebreakers i've ever seen it had
[24:43] Speaker 1: like shot making crazy shot making then it had both
[24:46] Speaker 1: of the women getting crazy nervous and having horrible airs
[24:49] Speaker 1: muhova's diving on the ground coco slipping on the ground
[24:53] Speaker 1: coco misses the drop shot but like That was incredible drama.
[24:57] Speaker 1: You couldn't take your eyes away from the TV. The
[24:59] Speaker 1: volley that Luhova hit at 1-2, where she served and
[25:02] Speaker 1: volleyed and stumbled, was the best volley I've ever seen.
[25:04] Speaker 1: And then Coco just was down in the breaker, so clutch,
[25:08] Speaker 1: rallies back. Coco, you know, she's serving 9-8. Good first
[25:13] Speaker 1: serve and misses the drop shot. I know it stings.
[25:16] Speaker 1: But to her credit, we don't talk about, like, the
[25:18] Speaker 1: next point she battled back. Sorry, not the next point.
[25:22] Speaker 1: At 10-9, battled back and hit a forehand passing shot winner.
[25:25] Speaker 1: Mohova slipped a little bit. But credit to Mohova. The
[25:28] Speaker 1: 10-all point and then the 11-10 point. Mohova was the
[25:31] Speaker 1: one to go after her shots. Both those rallies, she
[25:34] Speaker 1: was the aggressor, stepped up on the baseline. Coco naturally
[25:37] Speaker 1: likes to play some defense. Bummer that Coco... lost but
[25:42] Speaker 1: muhova muhova's got a great game she's very likable and
[25:45] Speaker 1: that was an incredible incredible tiebreaker.
[25:47] Speaker 2: Yeah i mean i think one of the like i
[25:50] Speaker 2: mean the as you're talking about the tiebreaker was going
[25:52] Speaker 2: back and forth at one point like one of the
[25:54] Speaker 2: key moments i think was muhova's likelihood to win was
[25:57] Speaker 2: just 18 at one point down that down that match
[26:01] Speaker 2: point And then when she creates her own match point,
[26:05] Speaker 2: it jumped all the way up to 74%. It just
[26:07] Speaker 2: goes to show how topsy-turvy this match was. Stevie Mahova's
[26:11] Speaker 2: got a natural game for grass, the way she's able
[26:14] Speaker 2: to use that slice and come into the net effectively.
[26:18] Speaker 2: But I guess I want to just get your take
[26:20] Speaker 2: on just how impressive she was and how like just...
[26:24] Speaker 2: Just so steely out there with her nerves. Just didn't
[26:28] Speaker 2: bat an eye. Just very, very impressive.
[26:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, super impressive. Because there was moments in there where
[26:32] Speaker 3: she could have let it slip away. You know, I mean,
[26:36] Speaker 3: Sam mentioned a crazy end to that tiebreaker. I'm just
[26:40] Speaker 3: like replaying it in my head right now. You know,
[26:41] Speaker 3: the 9-8, the drop shot. Wish she probably wouldn't have
[26:45] Speaker 3: hit that one and just maybe hit that into the
[26:46] Speaker 3: backhand and come in. And then Muhova gets her own
[26:48] Speaker 3: match point. I felt like she choked that one at 10-9.
[26:51] Speaker 3: But then, like, these women... Both had an incredible opportunity
[26:55] Speaker 3: to kind of maybe fold after a likely match win
[27:00] Speaker 3: to get themselves to a final. And they both came
[27:02] Speaker 3: back out and they played good tennis after those moments.
[27:05] Speaker 3: So super impressive. Mohovo was able to hold her nerve
[27:08] Speaker 3: a little bit better than Coco. But a lot of,
[27:11] Speaker 3: it's kind of annoying to say, but a lot of
[27:12] Speaker 3: positives for Coco in that match. You know, it's not
[27:16] Speaker 3: easy to, you know, with her serve, she was able
[27:19] Speaker 3: to like hold everything. especially in that third set, hold
[27:22] Speaker 3: every time to stay in it. You know, that's not
[27:25] Speaker 3: easy to do if you're not confident on your serve.
[27:27] Speaker 3: For you, John, it's not that hard to, you know,
[27:29] Speaker 3: it doesn't matter where you're serving, you're likely going to hold.
[27:31] Speaker 3: But to hold every game, you know, one, two, two, three, three, four, four, five, it's,
[27:35] Speaker 3: there's positives there. She had exactly what she wanted, a
[27:38] Speaker 3: short forehand on match point for another final. And it's unfortunate,
[27:42] Speaker 3: but I was super impressed. She can play on grass though.
[27:44] Speaker 3: I think she proved to everyone that like she is
[27:46] Speaker 3: as good as anyone on.
[27:47] Speaker 1: The grass now.
[27:48] Speaker 3: She's as good as anyone on any surface on any
[27:50] Speaker 3: given day. There's, I don't think there's any doubt about that,
[27:53] Speaker 3: but a total bummer to, to lose it. You know,
[27:58] Speaker 3: when having that kind of that match point with a,
[28:00] Speaker 3: with a mid court foreign, but she was pretty impressive
[28:02] Speaker 3: after the match in the press conference. Like she's totally,
[28:05] Speaker 3: that's what I was going to say.
[28:06] Speaker 2: Yep.
[28:07] Speaker 3: She's calm.
[28:07] Speaker 2: She's cool.
[28:08] Speaker 3: She's collected. She doesn't let those emotions get to her.
[28:11] Speaker 3: It's really impressive. Cause I don't think, I would have
[28:13] Speaker 3: been that positive.
[28:14] Speaker 2: She's just 22 years old.
[28:16] Speaker 3: It's ridiculous.
[28:18] Speaker 1: It's amazing.
[28:19] Speaker 2: It feels like she's 27. She's been around forever. But, yeah,
[28:23] Speaker 2: I think very impressive how she handled herself after that match.
[28:28] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[28:28] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, she probably.
[28:29] Speaker 1: The press conference was great. Like, it was very.
[28:31] Speaker 2: Exactly.
[28:32] Speaker 1: Like, you couldn't have handled the press conference any better
[28:35] Speaker 1: than Coco Gauff did.
[28:36] Speaker 2: Yeah. No, she was impressed. She didn't really second-guess her
[28:43] Speaker 2: decision to hit that drop shot. She just didn't execute it.
[28:47] Speaker 2: She said if she executes that and Mahova's behind the baseline,
[28:50] Speaker 2: it's the right play. It just got a little tight
[28:52] Speaker 2: on it. It goes to show that even the greatest
[28:54] Speaker 2: players get tight in the big moments. It happens to everyone.
[29:00] Speaker 2: It is what it is. But having said that, Sam–
[29:06] Speaker 2: With Wimbledon, of course, underway now for about 12 days,
[29:09] Speaker 2: should we talk about a struggle we usually have when
[29:12] Speaker 2: we travel?
[29:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's data, John. I'm glad you brought that up.
[29:16] Speaker 1: As soon as you land, you're hitting the roaming charges.
[29:19] Speaker 1: Not anymore with Saley.
[29:20] Speaker 3: And to add to that, bad connections, trying to find
[29:22] Speaker 3: free Wi-Fi in Europe is almost impossible, and probably getting
[29:25] Speaker 3: scammed by a data plan at the airport.
[29:27] Speaker 1: Totally.
[29:27] Speaker 2: It's a total headache, and it's not what you want.
[29:30] Speaker 2: when you're on vacation trying to relax. That's why we
[29:34] Speaker 2: use here at Nothing Major, it's why we use Saley.
[29:37] Speaker 3: With Saley, you can download a data plan straight to
[29:39] Speaker 3: your phone before before or during your trip and connect
[29:41] Speaker 3: as soon as you land.
[29:42] Speaker 1: It's in over 200 destinations, so that's everywhere you're going
[29:45] Speaker 1: to go, right? You can get Saley. Plus, once you
[29:47] Speaker 1: have the eSIM installed, you don't have to keep reinstalling it, right?
[29:51] Speaker 1: You don't have to open your phone. You can never
[29:52] Speaker 1: find that little tool to open it. Once it's in there,
[29:54] Speaker 1: you're good to go.
[29:55] Speaker 2: And sometimes when you get a new phone, like these companies,
[29:58] Speaker 2: you'll lose your old data plan. And then you'll lose
[30:01] Speaker 2: maybe the good service you had. Well, that's where Saley
[30:04] Speaker 2: comes into play. It solved that travel situation for us.
[30:07] Speaker 1: It's been perfect.
[30:08] Speaker 2: For our European travels, I used it in Paris during
[30:12] Speaker 2: Roland Garros. I think you did as well, Sam. There's
[30:15] Speaker 2: no stress about data, no scrambling to connect. We're online
[30:18] Speaker 2: straight away and good to go.
[30:20] Speaker 1: Download Saley in your app store or by scanning the
[30:22] Speaker 1: QR code on the screen.
[30:26] Speaker 3: Get an exclusive 15% discount on Saley data plans using
[30:29] Speaker 3: our code NOTHINGMAJOR at the checkout.
[30:31] Speaker 2: Yep. So download the Saley app or go to Saley.com.
[30:35] Speaker 2: That's S-A-I-L-Y.com slash NOTHINGMAJOR. Thank you, Saley.
[30:42] Speaker 1: Yeah. Great partner.
[30:45] Speaker 2: With Nord and Saley, it's good stuff.
[30:46] Speaker 3: Sam's been waiting just all day for this.
[30:49] Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we've got some time to give Sam
[30:52] Speaker 2: his flowers because it's time to talk about the last
[30:54] Speaker 2: semifinal match on our docket here. It was Noskova over Kostiuk.
[30:59] Speaker 2: Four and four. Pretty impressive performance. Kind of a beatdown
[31:05] Speaker 2: out there. Talked about her confidence from her Berlin win.
[31:08] Speaker 2: Sam has her all the way to take the title
[31:11] Speaker 2: all the way. He's looking pretty smart right now. She
[31:14] Speaker 2: set up the all-Czech final against Muhova. Sam, Neskova's your girl.
[31:20] Speaker 2: You said it a couple weeks ago, and you were right.
[31:23] Speaker 2: You're not going to lose our bracket challenge. I know
[31:25] Speaker 2: that much. What did she do in this match that
[31:28] Speaker 2: just frustrated Kostiuk so much?
[31:30] Speaker 1: First of all, if she wins, I'm thinking about getting
[31:32] Speaker 1: the nose pierced just to match her. I'd love to
[31:35] Speaker 1: see that. Right in the inside here. Both her sets
[31:38] Speaker 1: against Kostiuk were like mirror images of each other. It
[31:42] Speaker 1: was 6-4, 6-4. Both sets, Kostiuk was serving 4-5. And
[31:46] Speaker 1: Kaushik kind of played a sloppy game. It was like
[31:49] Speaker 1: just literally the same set, but Noskova is just great
[31:52] Speaker 1: ball striker. She's up on the baseline. She ripping returns.
[31:55] Speaker 1: I said this earlier in the week, like she, she
[31:58] Speaker 1: matches the power of like any of the other females,
[32:01] Speaker 1: like whether that's Sabalenka or Keyes or Anna Samova, like, She,
[32:05] Speaker 1: she can step up and hit the ball as hard as, as,
[32:07] Speaker 1: as them. And she's plays with no fear. She's only 21,
[32:10] Speaker 1: by the way. Like she's really young too. Just plays
[32:13] Speaker 1: with no fear. It's like, and I feel like this is,
[32:15] Speaker 1: this is obviously new for her. Even the semis. It's like,
[32:18] Speaker 1: you don't know what you don't know. She just kind
[32:20] Speaker 1: of went out there and did her thing. It didn't
[32:21] Speaker 1: look like she was nervous. It probably helped that she
[32:23] Speaker 1: was playing costume who was always already also in a
[32:26] Speaker 1: Wimbledon semi for her first time. But just kind of
[32:31] Speaker 1: went out and it's tough to, you guys find it.
[32:33] Speaker 1: Sometimes it's, The Cocoa match was first, and it was, like, amazing.
[32:37] Speaker 1: It's tough to follow matches like that sometimes. You walk
[32:39] Speaker 1: onto the court, and you can feel the crowd has, like,
[32:43] Speaker 1: no energy, at least for the first, like, hour, you know,
[32:46] Speaker 1: because they just witnessed this amazing match. But NoSquid just
[32:49] Speaker 1: went out, put her head down, took care of business,
[32:51] Speaker 1: and she's in the women's final now. Yeah. So good.
[32:54] Speaker 2: I mean, this is, like, as far as, like, star
[32:57] Speaker 2: power goes, it's maybe not, like, the best final. Maybe
[33:00] Speaker 2: you want to see, like, a Sabalenka versus... cocoa golf
[33:04] Speaker 2: or something or a Bacchina, but this is a very
[33:06] Speaker 2: tasty final. Um, in my mind, Stevie, both players have
[33:10] Speaker 2: a lot of variety, obviously a huge final for the
[33:15] Speaker 2: Czech Republic. I mean, two girls, two ladies in the
[33:17] Speaker 2: finals here, Stevie, how do you see, um, this matchup
[33:21] Speaker 2: going and how impressed were you with Neskova?
[33:24] Speaker 3: Super impressed. I mean, she has carried that momentum from
[33:26] Speaker 3: Berlin pretty handily. I mean, she's had one, uh, one
[33:32] Speaker 3: close match right that third set breaker against christia but
[33:35] Speaker 3: other than that she has played some incredible tenants and
[33:39] Speaker 3: sam is fighting off a fly i don't know what.
[33:42] Speaker 1: He's doing she's up on the roof right now oh
[33:50] Speaker 1: my god um yeah i heard like a knocking i
[33:53] Speaker 1: thought it was a squirrel.
[33:54] Speaker 3: Huh but other than that noskova is i i think
[33:57] Speaker 3: she's here to stay man like i don't i think
[33:59] Speaker 3: this is like you know, her announcing her presence to
[34:02] Speaker 3: now compete at every one of these slams. She doesn't
[34:05] Speaker 3: feel like she's going anywhere. The game is there. She's
[34:07] Speaker 3: 21 years old. She's kind of steadily risen up the rankings.
[34:11] Speaker 3: She's now, you know, won some of the smaller tournaments
[34:13] Speaker 3: leading into a bigger tournament. Now she's in the finals
[34:15] Speaker 3: of Wimbledon against a fellow country woman and should be
[34:20] Speaker 3: a good final. I've only played once. I'm assuming they've
[34:22] Speaker 3: played more in juniors and growing up and that kind
[34:24] Speaker 3: of thing. But They've only played once at the WTA level,
[34:27] Speaker 3: and I give the edge to Neskova on this one.
[34:31] Speaker 3: Sam's got me drinking the Kool-Aid.
[34:32] Speaker 1: I do. But how pretty is Mukhova's game, though? It's
[34:35] Speaker 1: so good. Maybe the prettiest game on the WTA.
[34:38] Speaker 3: I would say yes.
[34:40] Speaker 2: Sam, were you surprised that Kostiuk had a 59% likelihood
[34:44] Speaker 2: to win this match going into it?
[34:47] Speaker 1: No. She had won 21 of 22 matches going into
[34:50] Speaker 1: that match, and she was hitting her forehand huge. Um,
[34:55] Speaker 1: I guess maybe I would have had it more like
[34:57] Speaker 1: a 50, 55, 45, but she, uh, she was playing
[35:01] Speaker 1: great going into that. She honestly just had one bad
[35:03] Speaker 1: game in each set to cost you. And that, that
[35:05] Speaker 1: was the match. Not much more to it than that.
[35:08] Speaker 2: Yeah. Um, I guess I, after that first set in
[35:11] Speaker 2: the Scoville, I think she, it started to feel like
[35:14] Speaker 2: she was a better player out there. And after that
[35:16] Speaker 2: first set, when she was a 76%, uh, she shot
[35:19] Speaker 2: up to 76% likelihood to win, which proved to be accurate,
[35:24] Speaker 2: but in any, um, In any event, there's the final.
[35:28] Speaker 2: Mohova versus Neskova. I think it's going to be a
[35:32] Speaker 2: really good one. Hope to get a really, really close match.
[35:35] Speaker 2: Both players going for their maiden Grand Slam and to
[35:38] Speaker 2: do it at Wimbledon. There's a lot of pressure on
[35:42] Speaker 2: this match for sure. Stevie's typing. Sam's looking at the roof.
[35:45] Speaker 1: There's a lot going.
[35:48] Speaker 2: On.
[35:48] Speaker 3: Your computer's not charging. What are we going to do?
[35:50] Speaker 2: No, no, it is. It started to charge, actually. Yeah, anyway, so.
[35:54] Speaker 2: It was my wife.
[35:54] Speaker 1: It was Abby.
[35:55] Speaker 2: Yeah. Here we go. Let's get back.
[35:57] Speaker 1: I don't know what she's doing on the roof.
[35:58] Speaker 2: Sam, is Abby still up there?
[36:00] Speaker 1: No, I don't know what my wife is doing on
[36:02] Speaker 1: the roof. I'm in this house in London. We're going
[36:03] Speaker 1: home tomorrow. I heard this knocking. I thought there was
[36:06] Speaker 1: like a squirrel in the wall or something. And then
[36:09] Speaker 1: she peeked her head.
[36:09] Speaker 2: It was like, hello?
[36:10] Speaker 3: Hello?
[36:11] Speaker 1: I don't know why she's up on the, she shouldn't
[36:12] Speaker 1: be up on the roof though. That's dangerous.
[36:14] Speaker 2: No, that's it.
[36:15] Speaker 1: It should be you doing that, but there's no, we're
[36:17] Speaker 1: not even in our house. There's no reason to be
[36:18] Speaker 1: on the roof. Like what could she possibly be doing
[36:20] Speaker 1: on the roof?
[36:21] Speaker 2: It's interesting since we got to, we got to find
[36:23] Speaker 2: this out. We got to find this out. Um, but
[36:26] Speaker 2: there's our finals matchup. We have center Zverev one seat
[36:29] Speaker 2: versus two seat in the all Czech final Mohova versus Niskova.
[36:33] Speaker 2: I think we got two great finals on our hands. Um, Obviously,
[36:37] Speaker 2: but for everyone out there, follow these finals, as I
[36:40] Speaker 2: know you will, and download the Wimbledon app and explore
[36:43] Speaker 2: their innovative features like their likelihood to win, bringing you
[36:46] Speaker 2: closer to every key moment on court. IBM's app is awesome.
[36:51] Speaker 2: Available right now, of.
[36:52] Speaker 1: Course, at Wimbledon.
[36:53] Speaker 2: They'll have it at the US Open as well. Good stuff.
[36:55] Speaker 2: The fans will like it. Very engaging, and you learn
[36:59] Speaker 2: a lot. Almost done with this. One more something major
[37:04] Speaker 2: in a few days to talk about the final. Sam,
[37:06] Speaker 2: you're going to be home.
[37:08] Speaker 1: Yes, today was my last day. So I'm going home
[37:11] Speaker 1: tomorrow morning, Saturday morning. I'm going to watch the final
[37:13] Speaker 1: from home on Saturday and Sunday. Beautiful.
[37:16] Speaker 2: You'll be getting up early with the jet lag anyways. Stevie,
[37:19] Speaker 2: you got a stat for us?
[37:21] Speaker 3: I've got a question for you guys. See if I
[37:23] Speaker 3: can get you guys, get you an answer. The stat
[37:25] Speaker 3: we've got here, who is the only active player to
[37:28] Speaker 3: have won a slam in or on Any of these events,
[37:32] Speaker 3: a single slam, double slam, mixed slam, a junior single slam,
[37:36] Speaker 3: and one on hard grass and clay. Who is that player?
[37:40] Speaker 1: I know the answer.
[37:42] Speaker 2: I know it too. Sam, I know why we all
[37:45] Speaker 2: know it.
[37:45] Speaker 1: I know why we all know it too. We're big fans.
[37:48] Speaker 1: What do you guys know? We're big fans.
[37:49] Speaker 2: It's Yelena Ostapina.
[37:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, it is. It sure is.
[37:53] Speaker 1: She's our GOAT.
[37:54] Speaker 2: She hit the triple.
[37:55] Speaker 1: Don't.
[37:56] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[37:58] Speaker 1: My apologies.
[37:59] Speaker 3: And I should have put on there, and an avid Craigslist-er.
[38:02] Speaker 3: She's been selling stuff online.
[38:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like vacuum cleaners, like good stuff out there.
[38:07] Speaker 3: I don't know what you do.
[38:08] Speaker 1: On and off court right now is us to bingo. Bingo.
[38:11] Speaker 3: You guys got it.
[38:12] Speaker 2: She is. Go to the bracket. Sam, you're safe.
[38:16] Speaker 1: Yep.
[38:17] Speaker 2: Two in a row, you're not going to lose here.
[38:19] Speaker 3: No, it's definitely you.
[38:23] Speaker 2: How are we doing this? It's both combined. No, no, no.
[38:25] Speaker 1: Don't you do this. Dude.
[38:27] Speaker 2: And you lost. Is that what we did or we
[38:29] Speaker 2: just did the men's?
[38:30] Speaker 3: That's not how we did the last one.
[38:31] Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. That's not how we did
[38:33] Speaker 1: the last one.
[38:33] Speaker 2: I feel like it was just the men's.
[38:35] Speaker 3: No, dude, stop. I lost the last one because of both. Don't,
[38:40] Speaker 3: just stop.
[38:41] Speaker 2: No, you lost the last one because you lost the
[38:44] Speaker 2: men's too.
[38:44] Speaker 3: And the women's.
[38:45] Speaker 2: Yeah. I was like a second. No, no.
[38:47] Speaker 3: Yeah, but you're a third and I'll be a first
[38:49] Speaker 3: and a second.
[38:50] Speaker 1: The suits can go back and look. We'll verify. I win.
[38:54] Speaker 2: I think it's just the men's.
[38:56] Speaker 3: It's not, dude.
[38:58] Speaker 1: It's not. It was combined.
[38:59] Speaker 3: We should do just the men's, but yeah. Somehow Sam's
[39:03] Speaker 3: going to win the women's because he knows everything.
[39:04] Speaker 1: We're a little backed up. I still got to wear
[39:06] Speaker 1: a cheetah outfit. Stevie has a punishment from Roland Garros,
[39:09] Speaker 1: and now John has a punishment from Wimbledon. So we
[39:13] Speaker 1: need to actually get together and come through with these punishments.
[39:18] Speaker 2: It's a good effort.
[39:18] Speaker 3: I tried the same thing like a month ago, John.
[39:20] Speaker 3: Didn't work either.
[39:21] Speaker 1: So.
[39:22] Speaker 2: We're looking at– it's still up. We don't have a–
[39:26] Speaker 2: there's a lot of people that are at the top
[39:28] Speaker 2: of the list on the men's. side they have jokovic
[39:31] Speaker 2: winning which so they're they're blocked out so someone's going
[39:35] Speaker 2: to come from from far back if they can get
[39:37] Speaker 2: the it's.
[39:38] Speaker 3: Either yeah there's basically two people that can win it
[39:41] Speaker 3: basically yeah it's the glacier dusty friction or tcl leone.
[39:45] Speaker 2: Gosh i wish i had zverev to win this tournament.
[39:48] Speaker 2: That'd be my only chance.
[39:49] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[39:50] Speaker 2: The friction. What did it mean? Yeah. Um, and Sam
[39:54] Speaker 2: on the women's side. Oh, you had Pagula. Yeah. Yeah.
[40:00] Speaker 1: Okay.
[40:01] Speaker 3: There was a lot of Muhovas over Noskovas or like Noskova.
[40:04] Speaker 1: Someone has Muhova over Noskova. Multiple people. Dude.
[40:08] Speaker 2: A lot of people. Yeah. That's good. That's good stuff. Um,
[40:12] Speaker 2: we'll see how this all settles out in the end, but, uh,
[40:15] Speaker 2: what was it? Good show guys. My computer did not
[40:18] Speaker 2: run out of battery. I thought it was. And we
[40:22] Speaker 2: will see everyone in two days' time.
[40:24] Speaker 1: Sam, travel safe. I will. Thank you.
[40:26] Speaker 2: Championship Sunday. All right. See you guys.
[40:29] Speaker 3: Tell Abby to get off the roof.
[40:32] Speaker 1: But none were slain.
[40:49] Speaker 2: Weird.
[41:18] Speaker 3: That's weird because my computer is charging and recording for
[41:21] Speaker 3: 200 straight episodes.
[41:23] Speaker 2: Well, if it gets to the point where I need to,
[41:25] Speaker 2: I'm going to try it because it's right here. All right. Okay.
