On this episode of Something Major from the US Open, Sam, John, and Stevie debate Zverev’s form, time on court, and late-night scheduling before reacting to Rafa Jodar’s surprising first-round collapse. They also praise Carlos Alcaraz for rolling after a slow start, while covering Felix Auger-Aliassime’s loss to Khachanov, Dane Sweeny’s upset of Musetti, and Alex Michelsen’s rout of Brandon Nakashima. The crew runs through another strong day for the Americans, with Shelton, Fritz, Tiafoe, and Tommy Paul all advancing, plus Paul’s incredible around-the-net-post highlight. [0:02] Speaker 1: Welcome back to Something Major, everyone. We're going to cover
[0:06] Speaker 1: a couple of those round one leftovers from Wednesday and
[0:09] Speaker 1: all the rest of the round two action. Let's get
[0:12] Speaker 1: this show started.
[0:13] Speaker 2: Jack Jones, Stevie and Sam, got close a few times,
[0:17] Speaker 2: never won a slam.
[0:18] Speaker 1: Nothing major. All right, welcome back to Something Major. I'm
[0:23] Speaker 1: John Isner. My room's very dark. Apologize about that, but anyways.
[0:30] Speaker 1: Round two, US Open. Most of those matches are complete.
[0:34] Speaker 1: There's still a couple of matches still going on, namely
[0:37] Speaker 1: Alexander Zverev playing right now against Khantan Halis. We might
[0:44] Speaker 1: have a.
[0:44] Speaker 2: Zverev problem every episode. We might just film during every
[0:47] Speaker 2: Zverev match.
[0:47] Speaker 1: We might. Yeah, we might. But let's get this going. Sam,
[0:52] Speaker 1: any new celebrities on site that you've– Stevie, have you
[0:57] Speaker 1: caught any? We saw Ben Stiller.
[0:59] Speaker 2: Wait, I'm– I'm glad you brought this up.
[1:02] Speaker 1: Okay.
[1:02] Speaker 2: I just came from the desk. We had Coco Gauff,
[1:03] Speaker 2: which was great. But I happen to have– remember last
[1:06] Speaker 2: year here, I was getting the celebrity list of not celebrities,
[1:10] Speaker 2: celebrities that are in attendance? Same problem this year. I
[1:13] Speaker 2: got the list. There's like 50 people on it. Anna Wintour,
[1:17] Speaker 2: of course. Ariana DeBose. Ashlyn Harris. Becky Akinyoti. Bowen Yang.
[1:24] Speaker 1: Carl Nassib.
[1:25] Speaker 2: I feel like I know that one.
[1:26] Speaker 1: Carl Nassib? Football player.
[1:27] Speaker 2: Football player.
[1:28] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[1:29] Speaker 2: Christian Cowan. I mean, Matt Rogers. Nikki Campbell. Sophia Bush.
[1:34] Speaker 2: There we go. Jeannie Bouchard makes the list. Like, what
[1:36] Speaker 2: are we doing?
[1:39] Speaker 1: Freaking ridiculous. Oh, that's so good. Gosh.
[1:44] Speaker 2: Brett Batty. Sam Mewis.
[1:47] Speaker 1: There's 50 people on this list. Three are celebrities. Yeah.
[1:52] Speaker 2: Drives me nuts.
[1:53] Speaker 3: At least the first one on the list, Anna Wintour,
[1:55] Speaker 3: I was doing a couple of sweet visits. We're coming down.
[1:59] Speaker 3: We're going up the stairs, you know, like the back
[2:02] Speaker 3: from the player's lounge. Some nice lady opens the door.
[2:05] Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, you can come through, like, you know,
[2:07] Speaker 3: trying to be a gentleman. She's like, no, no, like,
[2:08] Speaker 3: you know, kind of gave me like the no, no, no.
[2:10] Speaker 3: And then I was like, okay, I'll walk through, I guess.
[2:13] Speaker 3: And then out comes Anna Wintour. I'm like, I guess
[2:15] Speaker 3: I'm just going to get out of the way now.
[2:16] Speaker 3: And her like whole team came.
[2:17] Speaker 2: Did you walk in front of her?
[2:19] Speaker 1: No, no.
[2:19] Speaker 3: I was about to. And I'm like, no, no, no.
[2:20] Speaker 3: I just, I completely, I parted like the Red Sea
[2:23] Speaker 3: and I got out of the way. I was like,
[2:25] Speaker 3: that's a celebrity. You get out of the way.
[2:27] Speaker 2: Big time.
[2:28] Speaker 1: She has a bob, right?
[2:30] Speaker 2: She does have a bob. She's a phenomenal bob.
[2:33] Speaker 3: I feel like she is the bob.
[2:34] Speaker 1: Yeah, she is the bob. She always has a bob.
[2:36] Speaker 2: Yes.
[2:39] Speaker 1: By the way, Sam and ESPN the other day, the
[2:43] Speaker 1: makeup people basically made him get a haircut.
[2:48] Speaker 2: I did, yeah.
[2:49] Speaker 1: Wait, really? Yeah.
[2:50] Speaker 2: I was in the makeup room. They're like, all right,
[2:52] Speaker 2: we're going to cut your hair tomorrow.
[2:53] Speaker 1: I'm like, okay.
[2:54] Speaker 2: I got a great haircut, by the way. Phenomenal haircut.
[2:57] Speaker 1: Why? Was it bad? I don't know.
[2:59] Speaker 2: It was just looking a little scraggly.
[3:00] Speaker 1: Okay. Anyways, let's get this going, guys, shall we?
[3:03] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[3:04] Speaker 1: All right. We just talked about Zvera, how he's on
[3:06] Speaker 1: the court right now. We could have a Zvera problem
[3:10] Speaker 1: for a long time here at this tournament. But let's
[3:12] Speaker 1: talk about his first round match, which was going on
[3:14] Speaker 1: when we concluded the first episode of Something Major with
[3:19] Speaker 1: I went to bed. He was in the fourth set.
[3:20] Speaker 1: Couldn't stay awake anymore. Impossible. He wins set four, seven, five,
[3:25] Speaker 1: set five, six, four over Lorenzo Sanago. This would have
[3:30] Speaker 1: been a very, very historic upset had he lost in
[3:33] Speaker 1: the first round as the number one seed. His draw
[3:38] Speaker 1: is actually looking pretty good now. What do we think
[3:40] Speaker 1: about Zverev's Stevie that first round? escape battle he had
[3:46] Speaker 1: over sonago.
[3:47] Speaker 3: Yeah i mean glad he escaped you know for for
[3:49] Speaker 3: the sake of the tournament for the sake of you
[3:51] Speaker 3: know for for all of it but he was a
[3:53] Speaker 3: couple points from losing and was not planning on being
[3:57] Speaker 3: tested that much in round one and look what's happening
[4:00] Speaker 3: right now as we're recording he's getting tested he's at
[4:02] Speaker 3: a set all in round two so he lost the
[4:05] Speaker 3: second set yeah not zverev's best tennis so far in
[4:08] Speaker 3: this event but you know i think the panic meter
[4:13] Speaker 3: is is a lot lower than it would be if
[4:15] Speaker 3: he hadn't won the french open right i think he's
[4:18] Speaker 3: gonna find a way to just can to get through
[4:20] Speaker 3: these matches play his you know play his way into
[4:23] Speaker 3: the tournament hasn't played great this summer since wimbledon so
[4:26] Speaker 3: maybe just trying to figure some things out he's not
[4:28] Speaker 3: playing his best tennis but i still think he's gonna
[4:31] Speaker 3: find a way to win and he's gonna i think
[4:34] Speaker 3: that being said i could look very stupid tomorrow.
[4:36] Speaker 1: Sam, I think you and I both think he's going
[4:38] Speaker 1: to get through Hallease here. I mean, who knows? One
[4:40] Speaker 1: set all. But I don't know, Sam. I'm not liking
[4:44] Speaker 1: what I'm seeing from Zverev now. He played pretty poorly
[4:46] Speaker 1: in Montreal, didn't play great in Cincinnati, lost that breakup
[4:51] Speaker 1: lead over Tommy Paul, and lost 6-4 in the third.
[4:55] Speaker 1: This spells trouble to me a little bit, Sam.
[4:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, and we said he's playing right now. He's a
[4:59] Speaker 2: set all with Hallease, who's good, but when you look
[5:03] Speaker 2: at some of the other When you look at Fed
[5:05] Speaker 2: Nadal Djokovic in their peak, they were crushing guys week one.
[5:08] Speaker 2: Fritz today wins so easily. The top players get through
[5:12] Speaker 2: these first rounds pretty easily. And I'm with you, Johnny.
[5:15] Speaker 2: He's struggling right now for whatever reason. I think that
[5:18] Speaker 2: there's a whole myth that when you win a major,
[5:20] Speaker 2: it just relaxes you and it frees you up. That
[5:22] Speaker 2: is so not the case. It's not like all of
[5:25] Speaker 2: a sudden because Zverev won Roland Garros, he doesn't get
[5:29] Speaker 2: nervous or anything.
[5:30] Speaker 1: And not just him. That's for anyone. Yeah. It kind
[5:32] Speaker 1: of like, you think having that success take the pressure off,
[5:36] Speaker 1: it feels like it would for me. If all of
[5:39] Speaker 1: us had, we want a grand slam, but yeah, it's
[5:42] Speaker 1: for anyone. No, it's like these, these great players, these
[5:45] Speaker 1: top five players, like you went to Sam, like you,
[5:48] Speaker 1: you get a taste of that. You want another one, right?
[5:50] Speaker 1: You don't want your legacy to be just one grand slam. Yeah. Another,
[5:53] Speaker 1: it adds pressure. It certainly does. It's a very good point, Sam.
[5:57] Speaker 1: But he spent a lot of time on court. He's
[5:59] Speaker 1: obviously Stevie, right? He's like so physically fit. I'm starting
[6:03] Speaker 1: to worry that his time on court and these crazy
[6:05] Speaker 1: late bedtimes that he's going to have could affect him
[6:09] Speaker 1: going forward as well. Don't you think, Stevie?
[6:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
[6:11] Speaker 1: It's a bedtime issue.
[6:12] Speaker 3: It's a bedtime issue.
[6:13] Speaker 1: He can sleep until like 2 in the afternoon. I
[6:15] Speaker 1: know that for sure.
[6:16] Speaker 3: But eventually going to bed at 4 a.m. has to
[6:20] Speaker 3: come back to get you at some point. I will say, though,
[6:22] Speaker 3: when Carlos won his first U.S. Open, he had spent
[6:25] Speaker 3: the most time on court as well. Every night he
[6:29] Speaker 3: finished at 2, 3 in the morning. It was that
[6:31] Speaker 3: crazy run, his first one.
[6:32] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[6:33] Speaker 3: If there's guys that can do it.
[6:35] Speaker 1: Bring Chicken now, though. That guy's played a million matches.
[6:39] Speaker 1: He's almost 30. I'm just saying. Anyways, but we'll see
[6:44] Speaker 1: what happens in this match against Hallease. Let's move on.
[6:47] Speaker 1: Remember all the rain. A lot of these first round
[6:49] Speaker 1: matches had to finish on Wednesday. Some people didn't even
[6:54] Speaker 1: get on the court. A lot of people didn't get
[6:55] Speaker 1: on the court on Tuesday. Big upset on Wednesday was
[6:59] Speaker 1: Rafa Holdar. Going out in, what was the score? 2-1-1.
[7:05] Speaker 1: To Boo Young Chowkety, 2-1-1. Now, if you would have
[7:13] Speaker 1: said that the Hodar match in the first round was
[7:15] Speaker 1: going to be 2-1-1, I think we all would have said, yeah,
[7:18] Speaker 1: Hodar wins 2-1-1. What the hell is that? Yeah, me
[7:22] Speaker 1: and everyone else. Yeah, Sam and everyone else. But it's
[7:26] Speaker 1: one of those things. Look, I mean, Hodar has been
[7:27] Speaker 1: on an absolute heater, you know, the last four months, maybe.
[7:31] Speaker 1: And I think he's going to do it.
[7:42] Speaker 3: And, you know, I remember I was, you know, when
[7:45] Speaker 3: I was doing TC live in Montreal and then, you know,
[7:48] Speaker 3: a little bit in Cincy and stuff, like I was,
[7:49] Speaker 3: I was saying like, he's going to run out of
[7:51] Speaker 3: gas at some point, right? He's going to have to
[7:53] Speaker 3: play a bad match at some point. He never did
[7:55] Speaker 3: in those events. It's a very unfortunate time for him
[7:59] Speaker 3: to play the worst match of the year at the
[8:01] Speaker 3: U S open. Like he was bound to have one
[8:04] Speaker 3: bad day and he had it. And it was unfortunate
[8:06] Speaker 3: because it was at the U S open somewhere. He's
[8:07] Speaker 3: now the 12th seed, somebody that should be pushing for
[8:10] Speaker 3: second week and beyond. But he was dealing with a
[8:12] Speaker 3: lot in this match. He changed rackets like five or
[8:15] Speaker 3: six times in that first set alone. Couldn't quite figure
[8:17] Speaker 3: out the tension. Balls were flying out everywhere. The serve
[8:21] Speaker 3: was all over the map. This has just got to
[8:24] Speaker 3: be a learning day for him. It's a hard lesson
[8:30] Speaker 3: to learn, but he had a bad day, and it
[8:31] Speaker 3: finally happened, and it just happened to be at the Open.
[8:34] Speaker 1: Sam, anything you got to add? It was crazy. I'm
[8:37] Speaker 1: just going to– he's 19. All this is so new
[8:39] Speaker 1: to him. I think it's crazy that we– Maybe we
[8:42] Speaker 1: should pump our brakes a little bit, right? I mean
[8:44] Speaker 1: some people have him do it. He's had a phenomenal year.
[8:47] Speaker 2: He's probably still going to end in your top ten.
[8:48] Speaker 1: Unbelievable year.
[8:49] Speaker 2: Guys, he's an absolute stud.
[8:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, no one is going to remember this match in
[8:52] Speaker 1: a couple of years from now when he's actually competing
[8:54] Speaker 1: for slams in my mind. He's good enough. Just– he
[8:58] Speaker 1: hasn't been around that long. His first time– probably he
[9:01] Speaker 1: was just waiting and waiting, waiting to play his first
[9:03] Speaker 1: round match. It took him forever to get going. He
[9:06] Speaker 1: laid an egg big time. Tough to see him out
[9:10] Speaker 1: of that– out in the first round. That whole section
[9:14] Speaker 1: of the draw is kind of open. It's up there.
[9:17] Speaker 1: It is the most open.
[9:18] Speaker 2: It's wide open.
[9:19] Speaker 3: It's wide open. It's like the Grand Canyon down there.
[9:22] Speaker 1: Right?
[9:23] Speaker 2: That was the draw. I'm not going to have to
[9:25] Speaker 2: look ahead, but like Demonar was in there. He's gone.
[9:27] Speaker 2: They've got– Yeah. You're– Yeah, anyway, keep going. I won't
[9:31] Speaker 2: spoil it.
[9:31] Speaker 1: No, no, no. Sorry. I wasn't interrupting. I was just agreeing.
[9:34] Speaker 2: No, I don't want to look ahead. We're going to
[9:35] Speaker 2: go over results.
[9:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, no, we're going to get through that. But let's
[9:37] Speaker 1: actually get through, talk about some of the round two
[9:40] Speaker 1: matches that have completed. Let's start with Carlos Alcaraz at
[9:43] Speaker 1: the bottom of the draw, number two seed. Takes out
[9:46] Speaker 1: Agyem Faria, two in the fourth, loses the first set,
[9:50] Speaker 1: but absolutely nothing. demolished him after that, shook off that
[9:56] Speaker 1: that slow start. We saw in previous grandstands, even he
[10:00] Speaker 1: was fully healthy and winning masters 1000 he would occasionally
[10:04] Speaker 1: like drop a set to people in slams that you
[10:06] Speaker 1: wouldn't think he would similar case here but i don't
[10:09] Speaker 1: know about you guys stevie i thought he looked great
[10:12] Speaker 1: in his round two.
[10:13] Speaker 3: Win yeah no i mean carlos is was was flying
[10:16] Speaker 3: on after that first set you're just It was business
[10:18] Speaker 3: as usual for Carlos. He comes out. Again, I think
[10:22] Speaker 3: back a couple years ago when he was losing those
[10:26] Speaker 3: random sets, it was more of like a focus thing.
[10:28] Speaker 3: This one, I just think it was a rust thing.
[10:30] Speaker 3: He hasn't played, so he's bound to have a couple
[10:32] Speaker 3: missteps along the way. But once he gets the ball rolling,
[10:35] Speaker 3: I mean, he was not the toughest opponent, but Faria
[10:40] Speaker 3: is very good as a monster serve. And Carlos took
[10:43] Speaker 3: care of business.
[10:43] Speaker 1: Smooth, too. Earring. Yeah, it was like– Faria was so good.
[10:47] Speaker 1: But wait, Faria was so good in the first set.
[10:49] Speaker 1: Faria outplayed him in the first set. He's got a
[10:52] Speaker 1: lot of ebbs and flows in his game. Remember that
[10:54] Speaker 1: Tiafoe match? No, no, he was great. Also, what kind
[10:58] Speaker 1: of name is Jime? It's Portuguese.
[11:00] Speaker 2: It's like Jime, Jawa.
[11:03] Speaker 1: Jime. It's a Portuguese name.
[11:06] Speaker 2: I know, but like Jime?
[11:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, Jime. I don't like the name.
[11:11] Speaker 2: I like the name.
[11:14] Speaker 3: Jime i think we got a jime i like to look.
[11:17] Speaker 1: I don't like that he cut his hair he had
[11:18] Speaker 1: that long hair going bad haircut theory.
[11:21] Speaker 2: He's a bad boy he is a bad boy yeah.
[11:24] Speaker 3: I like him i i kind of evidence you have
[11:27] Speaker 3: for that samuel.
[11:28] Speaker 2: But uh i just like it would play brooksby who's
[11:30] Speaker 2: like just everywhere anyway but.
[11:33] Speaker 1: Alcaraz moves on he's into uh round three we'll talk
[11:35] Speaker 1: about his round three matchup uh in a little bit here,
[11:40] Speaker 1: but again, I think we all think he looks pretty
[11:42] Speaker 1: darn good. It's ridiculous how good he looks after not
[11:44] Speaker 1: playing a match for four and a half months. Stevie
[11:49] Speaker 1: just typed in, midnight pods get weird. Anyways, big upset
[11:56] Speaker 1: today was the three seed, Felix Auger, Ali Asim, going
[12:00] Speaker 1: down two in the fourth after winning a first set
[12:03] Speaker 1: tiebreaker over Kochanov. We all agree Kochanov is a very
[12:06] Speaker 1: tough second round opponent a very tough unseated opponent but
[12:11] Speaker 1: what happened sam to faa i don't know if you
[12:14] Speaker 1: were calling some of this match i thought it was
[12:16] Speaker 1: his back i mean we pulled out of montreal with
[12:18] Speaker 1: a back injury but it wasn't was it sam.
[12:20] Speaker 2: I wasn't watching this match okay let's talk about.
[12:22] Speaker 1: It stevie it wasn't his back was it.
[12:24] Speaker 3: No i felt like there was some i mean we
[12:27] Speaker 3: can kind of get into it with Same as Mussetti.
[12:30] Speaker 3: I think there felt to be some tummy troubles out
[12:32] Speaker 3: there for a couple of these guys. They were not
[12:33] Speaker 3: moving well.
[12:34] Speaker 2: Do you think, guys, like the last five days of
[12:36] Speaker 2: the tournament, it was cloudy and overcast, and then today
[12:38] Speaker 2: it was like sunny and hot. Do you think the
[12:40] Speaker 2: contrast in weather can kind of like hit you a
[12:42] Speaker 2: little bit?
[12:42] Speaker 1: You made that point actually on TV today. I thought
[12:45] Speaker 1: that was a good one. I don't want to give
[12:46] Speaker 1: you any credit, but I thought that was a good one.
[12:47] Speaker 1: It does. I think the humidity– it's not the heat
[12:51] Speaker 1: that's going to get you. It's the humidity. Yeah, I–
[12:58] Speaker 1: I'm with you a little bit. But it doesn't– I
[13:01] Speaker 1: mean we're talking about Musetti. Musetti just like totally like
[13:05] Speaker 1: flailing away out there and just totally struggling to eat.
[13:07] Speaker 1: So it has something to do with it. But I'm
[13:08] Speaker 1: with Stevie. It seems like something was up.
[13:10] Speaker 3: I felt like they were– yeah. A couple of off-court
[13:12] Speaker 3: issues for both the guys. The doctor is out. The
[13:15] Speaker 3: physios are out. They're giving him the pills and stuff.
[13:17] Speaker 3: You just– that's not what you want to go through
[13:19] Speaker 3: out there when you're battling in a solo sport.
[13:21] Speaker 2: While you bring up Musetti– Dane Sweeney.
[13:25] Speaker 1: Yeah, let's talk about Mussetti. Dude, don't talk about Mussetti.
[13:28] Speaker 1: Sweeney is my new favorite player. No, I'll talk about Mussetti.
[13:32] Speaker 1: That's what I said. Okay.
[13:34] Speaker 2: And then I'm going to talk about Sweeney who beat
[13:36] Speaker 2: Mussetti because he's my favorite sweater, player, sweater. Because it
[13:41] Speaker 2: looks like he coaches tennis in a, did a park
[13:44] Speaker 2: under the freeway overpass. I mean, he's like unbelievable with
[13:47] Speaker 2: the mustache and the hat.
[13:49] Speaker 1: How Aussie? You're talking about Benson Boone?
[13:51] Speaker 2: He's Benson Boone.
[13:52] Speaker 3: He's good. He's good. I called this match today. It
[13:55] Speaker 3: was unbelievable. Like the guy was flying around the court.
[13:58] Speaker 3: He dives for every ball that he can. Like he
[14:00] Speaker 3: puts no, He puts his body on the line every
[14:03] Speaker 3: single time. He will die out there trying to get
[14:05] Speaker 3: a ball that he has no business getting.
[14:07] Speaker 1: Literally. He'll be up a set and a break and
[14:09] Speaker 1: dive when he shouldn't and risk hurting himself. He plays
[14:12] Speaker 1: with that reckless abandon and just goes after it. It's great.
[14:18] Speaker 1: Little guy. Moves well. Prototypical Aussie. I mean, just look
[14:23] Speaker 1: at him. The hat he was wearing, for the longest time,
[14:26] Speaker 1: I thought it was like his local butcher shop gave
[14:29] Speaker 1: him a hat, and he's like, he's wearing it. But
[14:31] Speaker 1: upon further review, it was a New Balance hat. I
[14:35] Speaker 1: thought it said Joe's Butcher Shop on his hat because
[14:38] Speaker 1: I couldn't see it. I took a picture and had
[14:40] Speaker 1: to zoom in on it. It was a New Balance hat.
[14:42] Speaker 2: That's so accurate. Yeah.
[14:44] Speaker 1: But, dude, congrats to him. I mean, like you said
[14:47] Speaker 1: he wasn't himself out there, but, dude, you still got
[14:50] Speaker 1: to beat the man, and he did, and he played smart,
[14:52] Speaker 1: and he played great. And that draw is sort of open.
[14:57] Speaker 1: He plays Dargery in the third round. You see that
[15:00] Speaker 1: racket smash he pulled off today?
[15:03] Speaker 2: I keep hearing about it. I didn't see it, though.
[15:05] Speaker 2: I heard it was such a good one.
[15:06] Speaker 1: He was up a set and a break and had–
[15:08] Speaker 1: it was 7-6-4-3 serving add-in, loses the point, then starts
[15:12] Speaker 1: smashing his racket. Weirdest thing in the world.
[15:15] Speaker 3: Not even I would do that.
[15:17] Speaker 1: I know. Not even Stevie would do that. Exactly. Crazy.
[15:20] Speaker 1: But anyways– How about that All-American matchup in round two, guys?
[15:28] Speaker 1: I think they played on grandstand court, Alex Mickelson versus
[15:31] Speaker 1: Brandon Nashakima. That was– I couldn't wait to say that,
[15:36] Speaker 1: by the way. I've been planning this for so long.
[15:41] Speaker 1: But I mean, three, four, and four total beatdown. Mickelson
[15:44] Speaker 1: got broken his first service game out of the gate,
[15:47] Speaker 1: and we saw it. Brandon did in the first round,
[15:51] Speaker 1: kind of thinking it might be much of the same,
[15:54] Speaker 1: but no. Gob gets back on serve, wins three, four,
[15:57] Speaker 1: and four. Didn't face another break point from that point forward. Mickelson, Sam,
[16:03] Speaker 1: looks pretty good.
[16:05] Speaker 2: Really good. again, Nakashima lost three games in his first round.
[16:09] Speaker 3: He sure did.
[16:09] Speaker 2: No one saw this coming, especially after the summary had
[16:13] Speaker 2: final in Toronto and then a semifinal in Cincy, but
[16:16] Speaker 2: Mickelson just flat out out played him like Mickelson.
[16:20] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[16:21] Speaker 2: And every facet of the game, every facet. And Mickelson
[16:23] Speaker 2: almost beat Hodar and Roland Garros. Mickelson has had these
[16:27] Speaker 2: moments like when he's locked in, he's got a phenomenal
[16:29] Speaker 2: backhand service is so, so, but, uh, You saw at
[16:33] Speaker 2: the end, that celebration, the guys dialed it.
[16:36] Speaker 1: He doesn't go here with.
[16:37] Speaker 2: The fist bump.
[16:38] Speaker 1: He goes here.
[16:40] Speaker 2: Nakashima, though, still a phenomenal summer with how he played
[16:44] Speaker 2: in the Masters Series. Also, shout out to, he got
[16:47] Speaker 2: a smoking hot girlfriend. I didn't know this until recently,
[16:50] Speaker 2: but that's also great for him as well. So he's
[16:53] Speaker 2: got a lot of positives in his life right now.
[16:56] Speaker 2: And yes, he's bummed to lose in the second round,
[16:58] Speaker 2: but kudos to Mickelson.
[17:00] Speaker 3: Yeah. Who does Alex play in?
[17:03] Speaker 1: Who does he play in round three? We're going to
[17:05] Speaker 1: get to that. But big win. Big win. A lot
[17:08] Speaker 1: of people thought Brandon could go really deep. All right.
[17:13] Speaker 2: We've got a new partner here at Nothing Major, CalSheet.
[17:15] Speaker 2: CalSheet is the official prediction market sponsor for the U.S.
[17:18] Speaker 1: Open.
[17:19] Speaker 3: Yeah, now let's take a look at some of the
[17:20] Speaker 3: chances of how many Americans we might get into the
[17:23] Speaker 3: men's semifinals. You have one plus Americans at 44% or
[17:27] Speaker 3: two plus Americans at 21%. Look, we've got a lot
[17:30] Speaker 3: of great Americans in there. You got Fritz, Shelton, Tommy Paul.
[17:33] Speaker 3: You got Alex Mickelson. A lot of guys that could
[17:36] Speaker 3: make the semifinals. I think this is going to be
[17:38] Speaker 3: a good chance for at least one plus American to
[17:41] Speaker 3: make a semis.
[17:41] Speaker 2: What about you, Sam? I'm with you. We didn't mention
[17:43] Speaker 2: Lerner Tien and Francis Tiafa. We have Americans all over
[17:46] Speaker 2: the place. So I personally like us to get two,
[17:50] Speaker 2: at least two in the semifinals.
[17:51] Speaker 3: I like that.
[17:52] Speaker 2: Obviously, it's a major. Anything can happen, as we've seen
[17:55] Speaker 2: so far in this tournament. But these are the percentages
[17:59] Speaker 2: right now. And if these could change, that's where things
[18:02] Speaker 2: can get interesting.
[18:03] Speaker 3: And you can get into a position now. And if
[18:06] Speaker 3: a tournament plays out in your favor and the price moves,
[18:09] Speaker 3: you could potentially trade in or out of those positions.
[18:12] Speaker 3: And before it hits the semifinals, you might even get
[18:14] Speaker 3: a profit.
[18:15] Speaker 2: That's the beauty of this. Or you can hold your
[18:16] Speaker 2: position and then see what happens.
[18:18] Speaker 3: And that's the benefit of trading on CalSheet instead of
[18:20] Speaker 3: a traditional sports book. The cash out button never locks,
[18:23] Speaker 3: so you can exit a trade whenever you feel like it.
[18:26] Speaker 3: Kalshi is an exchange where you can trade on what
[18:28] Speaker 3: you think will happen across sports, politics, culture, whatever's on
[18:31] Speaker 3: your mind.
[18:31] Speaker 2: You're going up against other traders directly. There's no house
[18:34] Speaker 2: setting the odds or taking their cut. It's just people
[18:37] Speaker 2: putting their money behind their opinion.
[18:39] Speaker 3: Now trade $ 25 with code NOTHINGMAJOR and Kalshi will throw
[18:42] Speaker 3: in another $ 25 instantly.
[18:44] Speaker 2: Check the link in the description. Trade responsibly.
[18:46] Speaker 1: Let's talk about some other Americans. The top ranked American,
[18:49] Speaker 1: Ben Shelton, who's had a brutal draw. Greek sport, then
[18:52] Speaker 1: Hubie Hercatch wins another four-setter, this time five in the fourth.
[18:58] Speaker 1: I was watching that match. I thought Ben looked great.
[19:02] Speaker 1: I thought Hubie played pretty well. I mean, Hubie's a
[19:08] Speaker 1: top 30 player at least. I think we all agree
[19:11] Speaker 1: on that, but Ben gutted it out, kind of came
[19:14] Speaker 1: up clutch, got a break point, five-sixths in the fourth,
[19:18] Speaker 1: and Takes it home from there. I think Ben looks
[19:22] Speaker 1: really strong, Stevie.
[19:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, he looks great. And if my memory serves, he
[19:26] Speaker 3: also won a big third set breaker in the first round.
[19:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, good point.
[19:29] Speaker 3: In the third set. This one, same thing, right? You know,
[19:32] Speaker 3: the one set all breaker in the third. And you
[19:33] Speaker 3: just expect Ben to kind of come up clutch in
[19:36] Speaker 3: those situations. Just continue his lead. And once he gets
[19:40] Speaker 3: out in front, he's a tough out. But, yeah, this
[19:42] Speaker 3: has been a tough draw for Ben. You know, hadn't played– in,
[19:45] Speaker 3: a bit since his first round loss in Cincy. So, Ben,
[19:51] Speaker 3: you know, is poised for a deep run. The guy
[19:55] Speaker 3: loves playing in New York, gets the crowd on his side,
[19:57] Speaker 3: and he looks very, very, very comfortable out there. He does.
[20:01] Speaker 1: He's a big star, too. See these videos of him, like,
[20:05] Speaker 1: New York, like every big party he's at. Yeah.
[20:08] Speaker 2: He was on that podcast, The Boardroom, the other day.
[20:10] Speaker 2: I feel like they get Mark Cuban on there and stuff.
[20:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kevin Durant's thing. Yeah. That's the guy
[20:18] Speaker 1: that Kevin Durant invested in money in 2017 in some
[20:21] Speaker 1: company and they like NVIDIA bought it. 600X. It was
[20:25] Speaker 1: like 6,000, 20,000X or something. Anyways, yeah. Ben's dialed. Good
[20:32] Speaker 1: win for him. Taylor Fritz, by the way. He's not
[20:36] Speaker 1: a serve bot. When you win 0-1-1, which he did
[20:39] Speaker 1: against Matteo Bellucci, he wants to be on the serve
[20:41] Speaker 1: bot squad. You're not, dude. Serve bots have never won
[20:44] Speaker 1: a match 0-1-1 in their lives.
[20:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, he's off the team. He's off the serve bot team.
[20:49] Speaker 3: This disproves his theory that you can't win a set
[20:52] Speaker 3: and win a match 6-0.
[20:53] Speaker 1: That's a good point. Yeah, it's a great point.
[20:56] Speaker 3: Proving himself wrong. He hates that.
[20:58] Speaker 1: He's had a pretty good draw. I mean, Darwin, Blanche, Matteo, Belucci,
[21:01] Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. I mean, Guy has just been nails
[21:04] Speaker 1: so far. I really like where Fritzi's at. Don't you, Sam?
[21:08] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, that's what, again, that's what like Fed
[21:10] Speaker 2: Nadal used to do back in the day in the
[21:12] Speaker 2: first week. He was flawless today. The first four games
[21:15] Speaker 2: were kind of tough. He went up 4-0, but it
[21:17] Speaker 2: was like, you know, 17, 18 minutes. A few of
[21:20] Speaker 2: the games went to deuce, and that felt like it
[21:22] Speaker 2: just deflated Belucci. He was just like, all right, I
[21:24] Speaker 2: just played well, and I'm down 4-0. And then Fritz
[21:27] Speaker 2: was just all over him after that. Not much more
[21:29] Speaker 2: to it.
[21:30] Speaker 1: Not much more to it. I agree. What can you
[21:32] Speaker 1: talk about?
[21:32] Speaker 2: He just dominated the match.
[21:33] Speaker 3: A couple of breadsticks.
[21:34] Speaker 1: Big Foe takes out... Sabalenka's second-round opponent, Roy Sakamoto. Roy Sakamoto.
[21:42] Speaker 1: Congrats to Big Foe. 3-6-5. Big Foe looks pretty good.
[21:48] Speaker 1: Did he say something after this match? Physically, he's not
[21:51] Speaker 1: feeling the best. Did y'all see that?
[21:53] Speaker 2: Yeah, I called that match. He was a little flat
[21:56] Speaker 2: in this match for Tiafoe standards. Usually, he's engaged and energized.
[21:59] Speaker 2: I think it's a good sign, though. Maybe he was
[22:01] Speaker 2: just a little off. and he got through a boring
[22:04] Speaker 2: match in straight sets, which is the anti-TFO thing to do. Usually,
[22:07] Speaker 2: there was moments in that match where I was like,
[22:09] Speaker 2: he's going to lose a second, he's going to lose
[22:11] Speaker 2: a third, but he would regain the focus and did
[22:14] Speaker 2: a great job of winning that in three sets over Sakamoto,
[22:18] Speaker 2: who's now lost twice. Lost to Sabalenka and now Tiafoe.
[22:21] Speaker 1: Yep, yep. Stevie, Tommy Paul wins in Four sets and
[22:26] Speaker 1: also in route hit the shot of the tournament. I
[22:30] Speaker 1: think we can all agree with that sliding forehand around
[22:32] Speaker 1: the net post. That's the singles net post, right? A
[22:34] Speaker 1: lot of times in the regular tournaments, they don't have
[22:36] Speaker 1: those singles net posts.
[22:38] Speaker 3: I want this. I want this. In all singles matches
[22:41] Speaker 3: at the big events is give us the singles only net.
[22:46] Speaker 1: So you can see shots like that?
[22:47] Speaker 3: Yes. I want those nets to be played with doubles
[22:52] Speaker 3: as well, quite frankly. I want to see more chaos.
[22:54] Speaker 3: That's a whole other point. That's a good point, Stevie. Yeah,
[22:58] Speaker 3: I want to see more on the net post. But
[23:00] Speaker 3: Tommy did a great job. It's a bit dangerous on
[23:03] Speaker 3: that side where he did it. He hits the bench,
[23:05] Speaker 3: but Tommy's an athlete. Hits the winner, kind of recognizes
[23:08] Speaker 3: where he's at, doesn't hit the bench, and gets the
[23:11] Speaker 3: job done. He played really well in this match. Didn't
[23:13] Speaker 3: play a great end of the third set up. but
[23:16] Speaker 3: ultimately got the job done because that kid, Prismich, has
[23:19] Speaker 3: not had the best last month or two, but he
[23:22] Speaker 3: has huge upside. The guy is very good, has wins
[23:24] Speaker 3: over Shelton and Novak this year on the clay. So
[23:27] Speaker 3: that's a big win for Tommy.
[23:28] Speaker 1: Not much more we can say about that. Lerner Tien
[23:31] Speaker 1: retires Gail Monfils in his final Grand Slam. You guys
[23:34] Speaker 1: thought Gail Monfils was going to win this match, I think.
[23:37] Speaker 3: No, we thought it was going to be fun.
[23:38] Speaker 1: No, we didn't. You kind of did. No, dude.
[23:41] Speaker 2: I said if he plays how he played in his
[23:44] Speaker 2: first round match, it could be Interesting.
[23:46] Speaker 1: I said Lerner was going to roll.
[23:49] Speaker 3: So just take the win and move on, guy.
[23:50] Speaker 1: Thank you. I will. Lerner rolled a 3-4-3. Lerner's looking
[23:56] Speaker 1: really good. Michael Chang has got Lerner just totally dialed.
[24:02] Speaker 1: So solid from the back of the court. So Lerner
[24:04] Speaker 1: moves on. Monfils bids farewell to NYC. He gave us
[24:08] Speaker 1: a good moment. Sammy called his first round match electric
[24:10] Speaker 1: as usual. He's still so freaking fast at 40. Yeah,
[24:13] Speaker 1: I know.
[24:15] Speaker 2: It's amazing.
[24:16] Speaker 1: It's like he gets tired quicker. I don't feel like–
[24:18] Speaker 1: I mean he probably has lost.
[24:19] Speaker 2: A little bit of his time.
[24:19] Speaker 1: It's like the endurance isn't there, but the speed is there.
[24:22] Speaker 1: That's what I think. I mean he saw that shot
[24:24] Speaker 1: he hit in the mixed doubles. I mean it's ridiculous.
[24:26] Speaker 2: It's crazy. A normal human wouldn't run for that.
[24:30] Speaker 1: No, no, no, not at all. But anyway, so that's
[24:36] Speaker 1: from the men's– Top Americans have fared pretty well. Anything
[24:45] Speaker 1: else from the Seeds guys that stand out to you?
[24:49] Speaker 1: I think Medvedev looks really good, like really good. I
[24:54] Speaker 1: saw him practice today. It seemed like he was hitting
[24:57] Speaker 1: the ball super clean and crisp, even for his standards.
[25:00] Speaker 1: I don't know, just my observation.
[25:02] Speaker 2: I don't want to jinx him. I love Medvedev, but
[25:04] Speaker 2: I'm not going to talk about him.
[25:07] Speaker 3: He's going to lose third round.
[25:09] Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to lose the round. I
[25:10] Speaker 1: don't even know who he plays in the round. We're
[25:12] Speaker 1: going to get to that. All right, Medvedev looks good.
[25:17] Speaker 1: Anything else, guys, for the second round winners? No. Did
[25:22] Speaker 1: you all see the beginning of the tournament? Players complaining
[25:27] Speaker 1: about the aroma of cannabis around the grounds? The devil's lettuce. Yeah,
[25:35] Speaker 1: especially on court.
[25:36] Speaker 2: I saw the rumor, the headline. I never smelled it.
[25:40] Speaker 1: Well, you walk around New York City, you smell it everywhere.
[25:43] Speaker 1: But a lot of players have been complaining about it.
[25:44] Speaker 1: Manorino complained about it. And his quote was, you can
[25:47] Speaker 1: smell weed on the court. There's noise coming from everywhere.
[25:50] Speaker 1: It's becoming a bit of a zoo, really. He goes,
[25:53] Speaker 1: now people are allowed to move around in the stands
[25:54] Speaker 1: during the points. I like that. What do you all
[25:56] Speaker 1: think about the weed smell that these players are dealing
[25:59] Speaker 1: with on the court? Non-issue?
[26:02] Speaker 2: It's a non-issue. If it's anything, it's like way back
[26:04] Speaker 2: in a practice court or something. It's great. This tournament's awesome.
[26:07] Speaker 2: All this stuff with the influencers that are taking over.
[26:11] Speaker 2: People on the internet are such idiots. Everyone's just complaining
[26:14] Speaker 2: to complain.
[26:15] Speaker 3: It's difficult because you're now fighting for both things. You
[26:17] Speaker 3: were a player, and now you are an influencer, so
[26:19] Speaker 3: you want to be let in.
[26:23] Speaker 2: Just let us live, Stevie.
[26:26] Speaker 1: We can't let you exist. Let us take photos with
[26:28] Speaker 1: our ring lights, okay?
[26:29] Speaker 3: My bad. I'm so sorry.
[26:31] Speaker 1: Back to Alcaraz a little bit. Did y'all see what
[26:33] Speaker 1: he said about, I mean, obviously this was a forced
[26:36] Speaker 1: break with his wrist. He said that he's going to
[26:38] Speaker 1: take more like months long breaks to avoid burnout. I mean,
[26:44] Speaker 1: I've saved his body a little bit. He's criticized the
[26:47] Speaker 1: ATP tour for adding more important tournaments. And I think make,
[26:52] Speaker 1: make it, you know, maybe making these tournaments so long.
[26:56] Speaker 1: I think he might have a point. I mean, like
[26:57] Speaker 1: what I, a tournament like Canada, they might not ever
[27:00] Speaker 1: see Alcaraz again.
[27:02] Speaker 2: Totally. If you're him, like, you know, you're going to
[27:05] Speaker 2: play the majors, but Indian Wells, Miami, just play Indian Wells, Toronto, Cincy,
[27:09] Speaker 2: just play Cincy, Rome, Madrid, just pick one. Like maybe
[27:12] Speaker 2: go to Asia every other year.
[27:15] Speaker 1: I'm yeah. I'm, I'm with him. He's proven that the
[27:18] Speaker 1: time off, it's, you know, doesn't really hurt him. And
[27:21] Speaker 1: when he's healthy, he's going to, and being able to
[27:23] Speaker 1: train fully. Yeah. We've, we talked about this. Um, I
[27:28] Speaker 1: wonder if all the top players, I wonder if Yannick
[27:30] Speaker 1: Sinner feels like that as well. We'll see when he
[27:32] Speaker 1: does come back. We'll see how he starts playing. But
[27:36] Speaker 1: do you all think he's got a point, or are
[27:39] Speaker 1: you kind of sick of the complaining? There's nothing to
[27:42] Speaker 1: be done.
[27:43] Speaker 3: There's nothing they can do. If you don't want to play,
[27:47] Speaker 3: don't play. Yep.
[27:48] Speaker 2: Just put your money where your mouth is. Just don't play. Yes,
[27:51] Speaker 2: they are, quote-unquote, forced to play for these bonuses, but
[27:53] Speaker 2: if enough of them start doing this and be like, no,
[27:55] Speaker 2: I'm just not going to play, a change will occur.
[27:58] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah um i agree all right let's move on
[28:02] Speaker 1: to the women's side anything stand out to you i
[28:06] Speaker 1: mean it's like no upsets all the top 10 seeds.
[28:10] Speaker 2: Are still alive and look at their score like read
[28:13] Speaker 2: their score lines too for some yeah they just dominated
[28:16] Speaker 2: it's a.
[28:16] Speaker 1: Bit alina had a tough one four and the third other.
[28:18] Speaker 2: Than that one and one three and one oh and
[28:21] Speaker 2: two one and oh four and two is like I, I.
[28:24] Speaker 1: The top 10 seats all still alive. How about Maddie
[28:26] Speaker 1: keys today?
[28:28] Speaker 3: Stevie saves five.
[28:28] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[28:29] Speaker 3: Saves five.
[28:29] Speaker 1: That was when Bondar double faulted away her first two
[28:34] Speaker 1: match points at five, two, you knew it was, and
[28:36] Speaker 1: then she had three more match points returning at five, three,
[28:40] Speaker 1: which she didn't get that.
[28:42] Speaker 3: It's over.
[28:43] Speaker 1: I would have put a million. There's no way she
[28:45] Speaker 1: was holding serve at five, four. She got broken to love. Yeah, no.
[28:48] Speaker 3: Cause we were, we called the match after that. The
[28:50] Speaker 3: Mercedes one was after. So I was, we're sitting there watching.
[28:51] Speaker 3: We're like, yep. Well, let's just, leave our stuff here
[28:54] Speaker 3: for a while. Cause this is definitely going to continue
[28:55] Speaker 3: to go seven, six and a third. And then like
[28:58] Speaker 3: a moron, I was like, Oh, the match is over.
[29:00] Speaker 3: And of course they go to 10 and a third
[29:02] Speaker 3: set breaker. That's how dumb I am still. I can't
[29:04] Speaker 3: remember that.
[29:05] Speaker 2: She's going to be extra dangerous now.
[29:07] Speaker 1: Oh yeah. I feel like that man.
[29:08] Speaker 2: Oh my God.
[29:09] Speaker 1: How stressful have ever first two matches been? I know. Yeah.
[29:13] Speaker 3: But you get out of those, then you're flying, playing
[29:15] Speaker 3: with house money.
[29:16] Speaker 1: She plays Quinn win. Next. Through qualities. Zhang.
[29:20] Speaker 2: It's Zhang.
[29:22] Speaker 1: Her name's not Quinn win.
[29:23] Speaker 3: Qinwen Zhang.
[29:25] Speaker 2: Qinwen Zhang. Oh, her first name.
[29:26] Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Yeah.
[29:28] Speaker 3: Sorry.
[29:29] Speaker 2: I thought you thought Zhang was pronounced Qinwen.
[29:34] Speaker 3: The blooper reel for episode two here is going to
[29:36] Speaker 3: be unbelievable.
[29:38] Speaker 2: Those Chinese names are tough.
[29:39] Speaker 1: They are. You're such an idiot. You're an idiot. Oh
[29:47] Speaker 1: my goodness. But yeah, that's going to be as good.
[29:49] Speaker 1: But seriously, that was like what an escape. I mean, Matt,
[29:53] Speaker 1: she should be home right now in Florida.
[29:55] Speaker 2: She recently had an article out. Her house is like
[29:59] Speaker 2: an architectural digest or something. A beautiful job with her
[30:02] Speaker 2: house and decor, by the way.
[30:04] Speaker 1: Well done. Well done, Maddie. Wait till she has some kids. No, seriously.
[30:14] Speaker 1: Amazing job. I mean, like she has labored through two matches,
[30:17] Speaker 1: stressful stuff. Hopefully she can sort of relax and start
[30:20] Speaker 1: playing her best tennis. But she has a tough one
[30:23] Speaker 1: in the third round. Don't you think, Stevie?
[30:27] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's going to be a tough one. Kinwen came
[30:29] Speaker 3: from Qualys, which is crazy to think. She was top
[30:31] Speaker 3: 10 like 18 months ago, and she came through Qualys.
[30:34] Speaker 2: What a time to hit it, too. We're talking about
[30:35] Speaker 2: Kinwen Zhen, and we're talking about NordVPN.
[30:38] Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. NordVPN, because you're traveling all the time and
[30:40] Speaker 3: working in tennis like we are. We're always on the road.
[30:43] Speaker 3: There are only a few routines that we try to keep,
[30:45] Speaker 3: and for me, one of them is keeping up with
[30:46] Speaker 3: my TV shows and tennis no matter where I am.
[30:49] Speaker 1: I've had this happen all the time when traveling. You're
[30:51] Speaker 1: trying to watch Our script says try to watch a
[30:55] Speaker 1: match live. For me, I was trying to watch football
[30:58] Speaker 1: live or hockey or something like that, and your streaming
[31:00] Speaker 1: platform is suddenly not available in your region.
[31:03] Speaker 2: No, I love NordVPN. You know, it's the best, too,
[31:06] Speaker 2: especially when you're in China. You know, you take it
[31:08] Speaker 2: over there, you can watch all your shows, all your sports,
[31:11] Speaker 2: whatever you want.
[31:13] Speaker 1: China. Come on, man. It's your line. I know. Just
[31:29] Speaker 1: go on. Okay. But we talked about sporting events. If
[31:35] Speaker 1: there's a live TV show or something you want to
[31:38] Speaker 1: watch while you're away, you can just connect to any
[31:40] Speaker 1: country with NordVPN where it's available and you can keep
[31:43] Speaker 1: up with what you love. It's so easy, too. It's
[31:46] Speaker 1: just like two buttons, boop, boop, and you're connected on NordVPN.
[31:50] Speaker 1: It encrypts your internet connection. It helps keep your browsing private,
[31:54] Speaker 1: and it includes built-in next-generation antivirus protection. No one's going
[31:58] Speaker 1: to look at your stuff. Yeah.
[32:00] Speaker 2: Besides you, because you want to look at it.
[32:01] Speaker 1: It's from malware, right, Sam? Yeah, yeah.
[32:03] Speaker 2: Protects from malware.
[32:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, and that means it can help protect against things
[32:08] Speaker 3: like malware, dangerous websites, and intrusive ads, giving you extra
[32:11] Speaker 3: peace of mind whether you're at home, traveling, or just
[32:13] Speaker 3: using public Wi-Fi.
[32:15] Speaker 1: Good job there, Stevie. But it really has solved that
[32:20] Speaker 1: travel situation for us, especially overseas. There's no missing out.
[32:27] Speaker 1: You don't get that not available in your region deal
[32:29] Speaker 1: and have to watch the live feed or the game
[32:33] Speaker 1: cast or something like that. You just log in, watch
[32:35] Speaker 1: what you want to watch, and it's way less stressful. Yeah,
[32:38] Speaker 1: and when you bring multiple devices to China, same account across.
[32:42] Speaker 2: All your devices.
[32:43] Speaker 1: So that's also a really nice benefit to NordVPN. It's
[32:52] Speaker 1: not that funny, dude. It's not that funny. I mean,
[32:55] Speaker 1: it is funny the first time. It was like moderately
[32:57] Speaker 1: funny the first time.
[32:59] Speaker 3: I am so tired. So to get the best discount
[33:01] Speaker 3: off your NordVPN plan, go to nordvpn.com slash nothing major.
[33:05] Speaker 1: And our link also gives you an extra four months
[33:08] Speaker 1: for free. That's a really good deal on the two-year plan.
[33:12] Speaker 1: And there's no risk with Nord's 30-day money-back guarantee.
[33:16] Speaker 3: So head to nordvpn.com slash nothing major or click the
[33:19] Speaker 3: link in the description of this podcast.
[33:21] Speaker 1: Thank you, NordVPN. Let's move on. Round three preview of
[33:26] Speaker 1: the U.S. Open. There is a guaranteed first-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist.
[33:31] Speaker 1: How about this quartet here? You have Navone, the Djokovic slayer,
[33:37] Speaker 1: taking on Echavarri. in the third round, and you have
[33:40] Speaker 1: Alex Mickelson taking on Danny Morita. One of those four
[33:43] Speaker 1: players is going to be in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open.
[33:51] Speaker 1: I think we all like Alex Mickelson in this little section.
[33:55] Speaker 1: I think so. Didn't he lose to Merida in Canada, Stevie?
[34:00] Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, he might have.
[34:02] Speaker 1: I think he lost to this guy he's playing. Merida's
[34:04] Speaker 1: really good. Talk about unassuming. He's like little. He's kind
[34:07] Speaker 1: of like– not strong looking and he just he's good
[34:12] Speaker 1: look at his record too he's won a ton of
[34:14] Speaker 1: challengers this year a bunch of matches in quality so
[34:16] Speaker 1: even though he's only won 20 matches on tour he's
[34:19] Speaker 1: like actually won like 50 matches when you add in
[34:22] Speaker 1: all the other ones yeah no that's a that's but
[34:25] Speaker 1: look taking advantage of the draw with Djokovic out uh
[34:30] Speaker 1: Morita took out Rublev um Good little section. Mickelson, all
[34:36] Speaker 1: of them are playing great. Navone, like, backed up his
[34:38] Speaker 1: Djokovic when taking out Berrettini. Like, you don't even talk
[34:41] Speaker 1: about that, really. Yeah. I mean, little Energizer bunny. Guy's
[34:44] Speaker 1: in incredible shape. Got the Lloyd Christmas haircut going. He's
[34:49] Speaker 1: looking good. He's looking good. Some other fun round three matchups.
[34:54] Speaker 1: What stands out to you all of the round three matchups? Like,
[34:57] Speaker 1: which ones do you all like? Now it's starting to
[34:58] Speaker 1: get pretty good in my mind. I think the best
[35:01] Speaker 1: ones are Lerner Tien versus Jakob Menchik. Yeah. Yep.
[35:05] Speaker 3: And Kaboly and blocks like that.
[35:09] Speaker 2: Kaboly block X. Good call.
[35:11] Speaker 1: Yeah. Kaboly block X. I, I think just for, um,
[35:17] Speaker 1: a quality of play and like for the fan experience
[35:19] Speaker 1: that Alcaraz Yee Bing Wu match is going to be awesome.
[35:22] Speaker 1: I'm not saying Yee Bing Wu is going to win,
[35:24] Speaker 1: but that dude is an unbelievable ball striker. That match
[35:27] Speaker 1: is going to be sick with sick points. And Carlos
[35:30] Speaker 1: is going to win. Um, I think Shoppo might have
[35:34] Speaker 1: something for Ben Shelton, guys.
[35:36] Speaker 2: I kind of agree. Shoppo's high is high, as you
[35:38] Speaker 2: guys know.
[35:38] Speaker 1: Yes, high.
[35:39] Speaker 3: It's very high.
[35:40] Speaker 1: It's really high. So I think it's going to be
[35:45] Speaker 1: another tough match for Ben. I think he can gut
[35:46] Speaker 1: it out for sure. But Shoppo's high is high. He's
[35:50] Speaker 1: playing some good tennis. Or he has played good tennis
[35:53] Speaker 1: in his first two matches. But Tommy Paul, Bublik, that's
[35:56] Speaker 1: a rematch of last year. Was it not in the
[35:58] Speaker 1: third round?
[35:59] Speaker 2: Yes, Bublik beat him in five. There's... As much as
[36:03] Speaker 2: we've not been talking about the women because the top
[36:05] Speaker 2: 10 women are dominating, the better third-round matches are actually
[36:09] Speaker 2: on the women's side, I think, as far as juicy matchups.
[36:13] Speaker 1: Okay. What do you got for us?
[36:15] Speaker 2: I'm just like Iva Jovic, Alex Yala.
[36:17] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[36:18] Speaker 2: Blockbuster. Mukhova, who's playing lights out, plays Emma Navarro. Pagula
[36:25] Speaker 2: probably going to cruise over Fernandez. But I don't know.
[36:28] Speaker 1: Layla's won two matches easy. Yeah. I like the men's
[36:32] Speaker 1: matches better personally, but I mean, I do too.
[36:35] Speaker 2: I do too.
[36:36] Speaker 1: I just like, no, I'm just saying, I just, I
[36:38] Speaker 1: just think, you know, I think I, the Yovachi all
[36:41] Speaker 1: up for me is that's a, is that, is that ash?
[36:44] Speaker 1: Is that ash worthy? Yeah.
[36:45] Speaker 2: We don't know yet.
[36:46] Speaker 1: We won't know.
[36:47] Speaker 2: Stadium.
[36:49] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[36:50] Speaker 3: What day is today? This will come out. Is that
[36:51] Speaker 3: a Friday night? No Saturday night match.
[36:55] Speaker 1: Yeah, Coco will play day and they'll.
[36:57] Speaker 2: Play night, I bet.
[36:59] Speaker 1: I think I agree. They'll play night. First night match. Yeah.
[37:02] Speaker 1: I think they'll play first night match.
[37:03] Speaker 3: That will be electric.
[37:04] Speaker 1: But Ayala, I mean, you haven't called Ayala's match, but
[37:10] Speaker 1: she played after Monfils the other night, right? And it's
[37:12] Speaker 1: like full house. It doesn't matter when she plays. Ticket
[37:16] Speaker 1: prices have surged over 134% for her matches. It's kind
[37:19] Speaker 1: of crazy. Yeah.
[37:24] Speaker 3: She moves the needle.
[37:26] Speaker 1: Yeah, she certainly does. Manny Pacquiao, he was a great
[37:29] Speaker 1: boxer from the Philippines, how huge he was. She's not
[37:33] Speaker 1: there yet to that level, but man, that matchup's awesome. Jovic, Iala,
[37:38] Speaker 1: that's a blockbuster. Shall we continue on, guys, to check
[37:44] Speaker 1: out the brackets? I faltered a little bit in the
[37:48] Speaker 1: men's side, but I'm still winning. I'm in 165th place. Wait,
[37:54] Speaker 1: tied with Stevie?
[37:55] Speaker 2: Both of you are. You guys are both crushing it.
[37:57] Speaker 2: You're in 165th place and I'm in 3,418th place.
[38:04] Speaker 3: Room for improvement, buddy.
[38:06] Speaker 1: And Stevie's looking good. Sam, you're looking awful right now. Yeah.
[38:14] Speaker 1: But you still have your winners are still alive. Your
[38:15] Speaker 1: winners and finalists are still alive.
[38:17] Speaker 2: That's the key.
[38:18] Speaker 1: It's like March Madness, right? They do the brackets. You
[38:21] Speaker 1: just got to keep your... Big dogs alive. Sam, you
[38:24] Speaker 1: got that. Still anyone's game. Anyways, but that's it. I
[38:29] Speaker 1: think this has been a good pod. Did you all
[38:31] Speaker 1: like my Collinsworth shuffle at the beginning? I did.
[38:33] Speaker 3: I did like it.
[38:34] Speaker 2: It was so good.
[38:35] Speaker 1: I did like it. I have a good chair for it, right?
[38:37] Speaker 1: It just felt so good.
[38:38] Speaker 2: Yeah, do it again. Do it again. Do it again.
[38:40] Speaker 2: Close the show with it.
[38:44] Speaker 1: Dang it. That's not a good one. That's it for
[38:52] Speaker 1: Something Major, round two. Didn't hit that as good as
[38:57] Speaker 1: I thought.
[38:58] Speaker 3: We'll see you during Severo's third round match at midnight
[39:00] Speaker 3: on Saturday.
[39:00] Speaker 1: We will see you guys in a couple days' time.
[39:04] Speaker 1: By the way, y'all, did y'all see where we are
[39:06] Speaker 1: in our Instagram follower count? 99.9, I think. 99.9. No way.
[39:12] Speaker 1: Authentic followers. Yeah, yeah.
[39:14] Speaker 2: We're not cooking the books like a few other pods
[39:17] Speaker 2: we know.
[39:17] Speaker 3: Nary a bot to be a fan of this.
[39:19] Speaker 1: We did not cook the books at– Nothing major. It's
[39:24] Speaker 1: been a slow trickle to 100, but we're getting there.
[39:26] Speaker 1: We've got to do something. We're running out of time,
[39:30] Speaker 1: because I think we're going to get there in two days' time.
[39:33] Speaker 2: We're trying to think of something.
[39:34] Speaker 1: We've got to botch that. But we're not going to
[39:38] Speaker 1: buy followers to get it over 100.
[39:40] Speaker 2: No, like other pods would.
[39:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. That's it. Appreciate everyone. Good show. Stevie, I
[39:50] Speaker 1: think we all need sleep. I'm playing tennis with Jack
[39:53] Speaker 1: Hughes at 7 in the morning tomorrow. I got to
[39:55] Speaker 1: go to bed.
[39:55] Speaker 2: That's going to be cool.
[39:57] Speaker 1: Where? That's so cool. In Flushing Meadows.
[40:02] Speaker 2: Sorry.
[40:02] Speaker 1: Oh, on the vineyard. Yeah. So cool. Yeah. Anyways.
[40:08] Speaker 3: Olympic gold medalist.
[40:09] Speaker 1: Sam, he's a hockey player.
[40:10] Speaker 3: American hero.
[40:10] Speaker 2: I know who Jack Hughes is.
[40:12] Speaker 3: You want to know why he knows why?
[40:14] Speaker 2: I know why, because he's only dating.
[40:17] Speaker 3: He was dating Tate McRae.
[40:18] Speaker 1: Yeah. No.
[40:19] Speaker 2: I knew it before that.
[40:20] Speaker 3: No, you didn't.
[40:21] Speaker 2: Yes, I did.
[40:22] Speaker 3: Sam hates America. All right.
[40:23] Speaker 2: Goodbye, everyone.
[40:24] Speaker 1: All right. Goodbye, everyone. See you in a couple days' time.
[40:27] Speaker 1: Thank you.
[40:45] Speaker 2: Nothing made you.
[40:49] Speaker 1: Nothing. Nothing made you. Nothing.
[40:58] Speaker 2: Nothing made you.
