[0:00] Speaker 1: All right, everyone, on today's episode of Nothing Major, we
[0:02] Speaker 1: have an awesome interview with Jack Kennedy, and we also
[0:04] Speaker 1: have a bit of a U.S.
[0:05] Speaker 2: Open preview. So let's get to it. Jack, John, Stevie,
[0:10] Speaker 2: and Sam. Got close a few times, never won a slam.
[0:13] Speaker 2: Nothing Major.
[0:13] Speaker 1: All right, everyone, welcome back. I got John, Stevie, myself,
[0:16] Speaker 1: the suits at SIFT. We're going to start this show
[0:20] Speaker 1: with a great interview. Stevie, John, you guys interviewed Jack
[0:24] Speaker 1: Kennedy a few days ago, the boys' 18-year national champion
[0:27] Speaker 1: who has a wild card in the U.S.
[0:28] Speaker 3: Open.
[0:29] Speaker 2: So let's get to that.
[0:31] Speaker 4: We're excited. We've got, I think our first junior tennis player. Well,
[0:34] Speaker 4: maybe not for now, but first junior tennis player, Jack Kennedy.
[0:37] Speaker 4: He's joining us on the show for John and myself.
[0:41] Speaker 4: For those of you who don't know, Kalamazoo is the
[0:45] Speaker 4: biggest tournament in American junior tennis held in Kalamazoo, Michigan
[0:48] Speaker 4: every year. 16s and 18s boys. Jack is the, we
[0:53] Speaker 4: were looking at the notes, Jack. Did you final the
[0:55] Speaker 4: 16s last year?
[0:56] Speaker 2: Is that correct?
[0:57] Speaker 5: I semied the 18s last year.
[1:00] Speaker 4: Semied the 18s last year. Good to know our notes
[1:02] Speaker 4: are good.
[1:04] Speaker 2: The final in 2024. Oh, 2024, right? We're in 2026. Yeah,
[1:07] Speaker 2: I'm a moron, Jack. This is 2026, Stevie.
[1:09] Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm an idiot. But Jack is the 2018 Kalamazoo
[1:12] Speaker 4: Boys Champion, and with that has earned himself a wild
[1:15] Speaker 4: card into the 2026 U.S.
[1:18] Speaker 2: Open.
[1:18] Speaker 4: So, Jack, thank you for joining us, dude. Appreciate it.
[1:21] Speaker 4: Congrats on Kalamazoo. How was the final? I know it
[1:24] Speaker 4: was a little underwhelming. to a certain degree because you
[1:28] Speaker 4: played jordan lee in the final he had to retire
[1:29] Speaker 4: in the first first set really so take us through
[1:32] Speaker 4: uh you know getting into that final and then what
[1:35] Speaker 4: happened thereafter no.
[1:37] Speaker 3: Thank you guys for having me um but yeah kalamazoo
[1:40] Speaker 3: um is one of the most prestigious tournaments as you
[1:43] Speaker 3: guys know um and it was a great week a
[1:46] Speaker 3: lot of up and downs um you know it was
[1:49] Speaker 3: just a really fun week love being there but um
[1:51] Speaker 3: yeah it was uh kind of a you know not
[1:55] Speaker 3: the ending that everyone wanted to see, especially me, um,
[1:58] Speaker 3: you know, playing Jordan, he's, you know, I know him
[2:00] Speaker 3: really well. We train in Orlando, uh, down in USTA, uh,
[2:04] Speaker 3: a bunch. Um, and he's a really great kid. Uh,
[2:07] Speaker 3: we love practicing together. He's one of the most likable kids,
[2:10] Speaker 3: funniest guys out there, uh, hardest workers. And, you know,
[2:13] Speaker 3: we're really excited to get to play in the final,
[2:15] Speaker 3: you know, three out of five, you know, exciting stuff,
[2:18] Speaker 3: a lot online, but, um, you know, it was really
[2:22] Speaker 3: unfortunate that we couldn't finish, um, You know, he just
[2:26] Speaker 3: had trouble. You know, I think some, you know, anxiety,
[2:31] Speaker 3: whatever it was. And, you know, wasn't able to finish. But,
[2:37] Speaker 3: you know, playing in the qualies for him is really
[2:41] Speaker 3: an exciting thing for him.
[2:42] Speaker 5: And, you know, wishing him the best.
[2:45] Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, no doubt. And the one kind of,
[2:47] Speaker 4: I think, unique wrinkle that Kalamazoo has is is the
[2:49] Speaker 4: finals is best three out of five. So for you,
[2:52] Speaker 4: you know, you play, you play zero, three out of
[2:54] Speaker 4: five matches still really. What is it like for you
[2:57] Speaker 4: going into that match? Do you think you can last
[2:59] Speaker 4: in like a four or five hour five setter? Is it,
[3:02] Speaker 4: you know, how much nerves weighs in on that? I
[3:04] Speaker 4: wish Sam was on this, was on this call. Cause
[3:06] Speaker 4: he did it back in the day. Didn't have to
[3:07] Speaker 4: play three out of five, but you know, he kind
[3:09] Speaker 4: of had that same feeling when you were a junior,
[3:11] Speaker 4: you never have to worry about it.
[3:12] Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure. It's, it's definitely a different feeling going
[3:15] Speaker 5: into the match.
[3:16] Speaker 3: Um, you know, it's a lot different, you know, you,
[3:19] Speaker 3: are used to, you know, being done after winning two sets. But,
[3:22] Speaker 3: you know, going into it, you're like, all right, you
[3:24] Speaker 3: got to keep going, got to keep that foot on
[3:26] Speaker 3: the pedal and, you know, just keep pushing forward. But,
[3:28] Speaker 3: you know, I think going into it, you're just having the,
[3:31] Speaker 3: you know, best night of sleep that you could possibly get,
[3:33] Speaker 3: just getting the best recovery possible, just to be 110% ready.
[3:37] Speaker 5: Going into it.
[3:38] Speaker 3: Because, you know, I think it's, you know, the tennis wise, like,
[3:41] Speaker 3: you know, we both make it to the final, we're
[3:43] Speaker 3: both playing well. But, you know, it's just going to
[3:46] Speaker 3: be who can manage, you know, the nerves and just the,
[3:49] Speaker 3: you know, who can manage their bodies the best in
[3:51] Speaker 3: that situation. So, you know, I was, you know, able
[3:56] Speaker 3: to practice a three out of five before leading up
[3:58] Speaker 3: to this.
[3:59] Speaker 5: You know, I was down in Orlando, got to play one.
[4:02] Speaker 3: Luckily, I only went three sets in that practice match,
[4:06] Speaker 3: but it was still already four hours going into it. So,
[4:10] Speaker 3: you know, I think just a big thanks to USTA
[4:14] Speaker 3: with all the fitness people that I work with, Sierra,
[4:17] Speaker 3: Satoshi and just everyone that, you know, behind the scenes
[4:21] Speaker 3: goes into it.
[4:22] Speaker 4: John's never played a four hour three setter in his life.
[4:25] Speaker 4: The legs don't work like that.
[4:26] Speaker 5: I mean, if I had his serve, maybe neither.
[4:28] Speaker 4: Jack, like, you know, you've had a good year, like
[4:30] Speaker 4: so far, right? The junior level, challenger level, you've won
[4:33] Speaker 4: a futures. you beat Kay Nishikori in a challenger earlier
[4:36] Speaker 4: this year. Does that give you the confidence that you
[4:38] Speaker 4: can go out and, you know, and win matches at
[4:39] Speaker 4: the tour level when you beat somebody like Kay, even
[4:41] Speaker 4: though it was at a challenger level?
[4:43] Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure.
[4:44] Speaker 3: Um, I mean, me and my team decided beginning of
[4:48] Speaker 3: this year that we're going to focus more on the
[4:50] Speaker 3: pro side of things, um, and really just play as
[4:53] Speaker 3: much pro possible. Um, we've mixed in a few junior events, uh,
[4:58] Speaker 3: the junior French, uh, Kalamazoo and the U S open was, uh,
[5:02] Speaker 3: the ones that we had on our schedule, but, um, Yeah,
[5:05] Speaker 3: I think it was a good plan for us to
[5:07] Speaker 3: kind of get exposed at an early age to play
[5:09] Speaker 3: the pros, kind of see where the level's at, see
[5:12] Speaker 3: what we need to, you know, gain and what to,
[5:15] Speaker 3: you know.
[5:15] Speaker 5: Work on.
[5:16] Speaker 3: And I think, you know, kind of just having that
[5:19] Speaker 3: kind of experience and exposure at a younger age, it
[5:22] Speaker 3: kind of helps you be more ready and just, you know,
[5:26] Speaker 3: kind of work on things at an earlier age. You know,
[5:29] Speaker 3: a couple years ago when I played my first couple
[5:32] Speaker 3: pro events, we knew that I had to get stronger
[5:34] Speaker 3: and I had to develop a better serve.
[5:37] Speaker 5: You know, that was just the reality of everything.
[5:38] Speaker 3: And, you know, I think, you know, doing that has
[5:42] Speaker 3: helped me now to kind of be where I'm at
[5:44] Speaker 3: and has helped me kind of, you know, gain. experience
[5:47] Speaker 3: and ultimately has helped me get some good results in.
[5:50] Speaker 3: But yeah, it's been a pretty good year, has had
[5:53] Speaker 3: some good results, but, you know, looking to keep pushing.
[5:57] Speaker 4: Yeah. You know, kind of just dating back for like,
[5:59] Speaker 4: so for one year ago, I mean, you did play
[6:00] Speaker 4: the US Open last year in doubles. What's Jack Kennedy
[6:03] Speaker 4: do better this year than he did last year as
[6:06] Speaker 4: you progress?
[6:07] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's a lot of mix of things.
[6:10] Speaker 3: You know, obviously everyone, once they get older, they mature more. And,
[6:13] Speaker 3: you know, I think the the professionalism really takes over.
[6:17] Speaker 3: You know, I'm really kind of really checking all the boxes,
[6:21] Speaker 3: doing all my uncontrollables really well. You know, doing everything
[6:26] Speaker 3: I possibly can to get at least 1% better every day.
[6:29] Speaker 3: You know, if that's, you know, just getting an extra
[6:32] Speaker 3: hour of sleep or an extra 20 minutes in the
[6:35] Speaker 3: gym doing, you know, maybe it's a cool down, maybe
[6:38] Speaker 3: extra mobility, whatever it is. Or if it's just taking
[6:41] Speaker 3: extra serves at the end of practice, I think that
[6:44] Speaker 3: is the main thing. And I think as I get older,
[6:47] Speaker 3: I just get, you know, just more hungrier every time. Uh,
[6:50] Speaker 3: I just, I'm a very competitive guy. Um, you know,
[6:53] Speaker 3: whatever I do, if it's tennis or playing cards with
[6:57] Speaker 3: my family, I'm always trying to win. Um, that's just
[7:00] Speaker 3: kind of who I am. So, you know, I just
[7:02] Speaker 3: think that competitiveness, competitiveness can just take over maybe even
[7:06] Speaker 3: too much at sometimes. Um, but you know, I think
[7:09] Speaker 3: the main thing is just Always trying to get better
[7:12] Speaker 3: every day.
[7:13] Speaker 2: I got to say, Jack, these are some of the
[7:15] Speaker 2: wisest answers I've ever heard.
[7:17] Speaker 4: For a guy that's born in like 2017.
[7:18] Speaker 2: And hearing it from an 18-year-old is very, very impressive.
[7:24] Speaker 2: You are from Huntington in Long Island, just about 45
[7:27] Speaker 2: minutes away from Flushing Meadows. Just how special is your
[7:33] Speaker 2: first Grand Slam going to be knowing it's the U.S. Open,
[7:37] Speaker 2: it's the tournament you grew up going to?
[7:39] Speaker 5: It's really special.
[7:40] Speaker 3: I mean... I don't even think words can describe kind
[7:43] Speaker 3: of what it feels like. You know, I've been coming
[7:45] Speaker 3: to this tournament since I was five years old and
[7:49] Speaker 3: going to watch practices of the pros, watching matches. I mean,
[7:53] Speaker 3: the earliest tennis memory I have is going to a
[7:56] Speaker 3: Rafa Nadal practice, my idol, and watching him, you know,
[8:00] Speaker 3: like on the side and like the corner. And I
[8:03] Speaker 3: was watching a practice and a ball rolled over to
[8:05] Speaker 3: me and my dad. We were right in the corner
[8:08] Speaker 3: and the ball comes to us. I get it and
[8:09] Speaker 3: I give it back to Rafa. And he says, like,
[8:12] Speaker 3: thank you, whatever it was. And I just felt like
[8:14] Speaker 3: the king of the world at that time. And just
[8:16] Speaker 3: felt like I could do whatever I want in that moment.
[8:20] Speaker 3: And then now to be in it playing on the
[8:23] Speaker 3: same courts as them is, I think, just a dream
[8:27] Speaker 3: come true.
[8:27] Speaker 5: You know, it's my backyard tournament.
[8:29] Speaker 3: And, you know, I'm super excited to play in front
[8:32] Speaker 3: of friends, family, and whoever decides to come out and support.
[8:36] Speaker 3: But the past two years in the qualies have been,
[8:39] Speaker 3: you know, unbelievable, a dream and an experience that is,
[8:43] Speaker 3: you know, once in a lifetime.
[8:44] Speaker 5: So, um, super excited to what, uh, this year holds.
[8:47] Speaker 3: Awesome. Yeah.
[8:48] Speaker 2: You talked about how you played it as a qualifier.
[8:49] Speaker 2: Of course you played it as a junior. How different
[8:53] Speaker 2: does it feel this year? I mean, you're on site
[8:56] Speaker 2: right now knowing, you know, you walking through the gates,
[9:00] Speaker 2: knowing that you're in the main draw, you're in the
[9:02] Speaker 2: big dance right now. Just how different does it feel
[9:05] Speaker 2: this year as, uh, compared to, uh, previous years?
[9:08] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[9:08] Speaker 3: Um, I mean, every year I think it gets better
[9:12] Speaker 3: and better, to be honest. And every year you get
[9:15] Speaker 3: just a little bit more of experience. So I think,
[9:18] Speaker 3: you know, going into this year, we really know what
[9:20] Speaker 3: to expect. You know, the first year going into it,
[9:24] Speaker 3: we were kind of like eyes open, like, wow, like,
[9:26] Speaker 3: you know, this is all incredible.
[9:28] Speaker 5: Like, you know, we're taking it all in.
[9:30] Speaker 3: Um, and then, you know, last year we got a
[9:32] Speaker 3: little bit better with it, but we can, you know,
[9:34] Speaker 3: still improve with, you know, not getting carried away with
[9:37] Speaker 3: some stuff. But, um, I think this year we're really,
[9:40] Speaker 3: you know, just taking advantage with everything that we have,
[9:42] Speaker 3: like all the support and, you know, all the, you know,
[9:46] Speaker 3: things behind the scenes that we can, can get, um,
[9:49] Speaker 3: and really just taking advantage of, you know, this, this
[9:51] Speaker 3: court time and being able to practice on these courts. Um,
[9:55] Speaker 3: you know, going to the qualities, you don't have that
[9:57] Speaker 3: much time, you know, practicing on the courts. you have
[10:00] Speaker 3: like three days but you know being able to be
[10:03] Speaker 3: out here a week in advance and really feeling out
[10:05] Speaker 3: the courts and the conditions i think it really just
[10:07] Speaker 3: helps um you know in a way to to get
[10:11] Speaker 3: more used to it and uh be more uh ready
[10:13] Speaker 3: for it when when match time comes um but i
[10:16] Speaker 3: think you know this year is You know, we're ready
[10:19] Speaker 3: to do some damage. I feel we're ready to, you know,
[10:22] Speaker 3: hit the ground running and, you know, hopefully, you know,
[10:25] Speaker 3: we'll see what happens with, you know, draws and everything,
[10:27] Speaker 3: but excited to get to playing.
[10:29] Speaker 2: So in my mind, you have one of the most
[10:32] Speaker 2: American names I've ever heard in my life, Jack Kennedy.
[10:36] Speaker 2: It's a classic. It's an absolute classic. Okay, so playing
[10:41] Speaker 2: at home in New York in front of literally your
[10:44] Speaker 2: home crowd, do you think that's going to be an
[10:46] Speaker 2: advantage or more of an advantage? Or does some pressure
[10:49] Speaker 2: come with it knowing that most people are going to
[10:51] Speaker 2: be rooting for you?
[10:52] Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not trying to see on the pressure side,
[10:54] Speaker 5: to be honest.
[10:56] Speaker 3: I think it's just really a great opportunity and kind
[11:00] Speaker 3: of privilege to kind of be in this spot you
[11:03] Speaker 3: know playing in the biggest courts in the world and
[11:05] Speaker 3: the most prestigious courts that are in our sport you
[11:08] Speaker 3: know just getting the opportunity to play with you know
[11:12] Speaker 3: the big guys and you know kind of getting that
[11:14] Speaker 3: experience is really just great alone and then just to
[11:18] Speaker 3: compete out here is really special so I think it's
[11:21] Speaker 3: just going to be an advantage and you know the
[11:23] Speaker 3: way I see it you know going to have the
[11:25] Speaker 3: people behind me um, you know, my friends and family
[11:28] Speaker 3: in the stands that, you know, don't get to watch
[11:30] Speaker 3: too much live, they'll be able to get the chance to,
[11:33] Speaker 3: you know, be their front row and, uh, really get
[11:35] Speaker 3: to be able to support. Um, so I'm just really
[11:39] Speaker 3: looking forward to it. You know, I just can't wait
[11:41] Speaker 3: to get to match day at this point. I'm, I'm
[11:43] Speaker 3: already getting the, the adrenaline pumping already. So I'm excited. Yeah.
[11:48] Speaker 4: So, I mean, you know, for you, dude, like what's
[11:51] Speaker 4: it like for you? I mean, You've been to the
[11:53] Speaker 4: US Open a million times, right? You've gone there, you've
[11:55] Speaker 4: played qualifying. What's it feel like for you when you
[11:58] Speaker 4: go there, you get that credential, it says A5 on it,
[12:01] Speaker 4: you know, you're a player, you're walking in the locker room,
[12:04] Speaker 4: like how special is that knowing that, you know, you
[12:07] Speaker 4: can watch the grounds as, you know, a New Yorker,
[12:09] Speaker 4: as a fan, but now you are in it, you're
[12:11] Speaker 4: in the locker room, you're seeing the Alcaraz as the
[12:13] Speaker 4: Novaks of the world. Like what's that feeling like? And
[12:15] Speaker 4: has it kind of sunk in yet?
[12:17] Speaker 5: Yeah, it's really cool.
[12:20] Speaker 3: You know, it's, it's kind of tough to not be like,
[12:23] Speaker 3: kind of like a, like a fangirl in a way
[12:25] Speaker 3: to like, kind of be like, Oh my God, like
[12:26] Speaker 3: they're right in front of me. I'm so used to
[12:28] Speaker 3: seeing them on TV, but, um, you know, you kind
[12:30] Speaker 3: of trying to act like you'd be there, uh, you
[12:33] Speaker 3: belong there. Um, you know, so you're not trying to
[12:36] Speaker 3: like big time them, but you're kind of just be like,
[12:38] Speaker 3: you know, like, uh, you know, I'm here too, you know,
[12:40] Speaker 3: I'm ready to kind of put my name on the map,
[12:42] Speaker 3: trying to, you know, uh, be one of the next
[12:45] Speaker 3: Carlos's and Yannick's. Um, But, you know, I think it's
[12:49] Speaker 3: just a great thing. And I think USTA also helps
[12:53] Speaker 3: with us, you know, being that, you know, a couple
[12:56] Speaker 3: of years ago, they put me my first practice on
[12:58] Speaker 3: Arthur Ashe. And I think, you know, they just want
[13:02] Speaker 3: to kind of, you know, throw you into the water
[13:04] Speaker 3: and just, you know, you kind of, you know, get
[13:06] Speaker 3: used to it on your own, you know. But I
[13:09] Speaker 3: think it's just great that, you know, we can have
[13:11] Speaker 3: these moments and, you know, have these, you know, just
[13:15] Speaker 3: kind of stories to, you know, tell. and just the
[13:18] Speaker 3: experience alone, just to, you know, be around these guys,
[13:22] Speaker 3: kind of see how they go day to day with
[13:25] Speaker 3: their things, with, you know, how they, you know, go
[13:28] Speaker 3: with their warmups, you know, seeing them in the gym and,
[13:30] Speaker 3: you know, kind of, you know, what they just do
[13:33] Speaker 3: kind of behind the scenes where a lot of people
[13:35] Speaker 3: don't really get to see what, what really goes on.
[13:38] Speaker 3: So kind of just, you know, taking some notes and,
[13:40] Speaker 3: you know, kind of just seeing if we can incorporate
[13:43] Speaker 3: anything from them into our stuff.
[13:45] Speaker 4: Yeah, and for you walking around, is there one player
[13:47] Speaker 4: that kind of maybe you would get starstruck by? Like
[13:50] Speaker 4: you're walking around and like, oh, like Novak's right here,
[13:53] Speaker 4: or Carlos, or maybe somebody random that you're like, I've
[13:57] Speaker 4: modeled my game after, or kind of whatever that you
[13:59] Speaker 4: kind of get stuck with?
[14:01] Speaker 5: I mean, I would probably go with Rafa. He's my idol.
[14:08] Speaker 3: Um, I've watched him growing up and I just think
[14:10] Speaker 3: I haven't got to see him like in person, like
[14:13] Speaker 3: up close. And I think I would just like be
[14:15] Speaker 3: jaw dropped, like absolute, like fangirl with him and just
[14:19] Speaker 3: being like, can I get a picture? Can I get
[14:21] Speaker 3: a wrist? Like anything, um, kind of like the, the
[14:25] Speaker 3: one where he played Navone in Madrid when he asked
[14:27] Speaker 3: for the shirt, like I would do something along those lines. Um,
[14:32] Speaker 3: and just be an absolute fan. But, um, I think
[14:35] Speaker 3: he would be really cool to meet and kind of,
[14:37] Speaker 3: I would love to like pick his brain about like
[14:40] Speaker 3: how it was for him to go from juniors to
[14:42] Speaker 3: pros and kind of that transition. And just really, I
[14:45] Speaker 3: would like to sit with him for hours and hours
[14:47] Speaker 3: just talking. Um, I would probably make him want to
[14:51] Speaker 3: wish he wasn't part of tennis after we were done talking.
[14:54] Speaker 5: So, uh, he probably doesn't want to meet me.
[14:57] Speaker 4: Um, yeah, I mean, we've talked about it, like, you know, the,
[15:00] Speaker 4: the draw hasn't come out yet. It should come out
[15:01] Speaker 4: in the next day or so.
[15:03] Speaker 3: Right.
[15:04] Speaker 4: Um, is there a feeling, do you, you know, not
[15:07] Speaker 4: that you want to pick a draw, but would you,
[15:09] Speaker 4: is there, do you have one way or the other?
[15:11] Speaker 4: You want to play like maybe Carlos or somebody like
[15:13] Speaker 4: night session Ash or somebody kind of random, maybe like
[15:17] Speaker 4: on court five where it's a little bit smaller.
[15:19] Speaker 5: That's a good question.
[15:20] Speaker 3: Um, I've asked my team and everyone that I know,
[15:23] Speaker 3: kind of like who their prediction is going to be
[15:26] Speaker 3: of who I get. I've, you know, I've got some Carlos's,
[15:28] Speaker 3: I got some Novaks and, you know, I've got some
[15:31] Speaker 3: guys like middle of the pack, like, you know, maybe
[15:34] Speaker 3: like a Caboli or like, you know, maybe like a
[15:36] Speaker 3: Medvedev or someone, you know, on the, you know, maybe, uh,
[15:40] Speaker 3: on the more like the lower half, but, um, I
[15:43] Speaker 3: think it's just going to be really cool. Um, personally,
[15:46] Speaker 3: I would want like a Carlos or those guys second round,
[15:50] Speaker 3: if I got there, um, maybe like someone that maybe
[15:53] Speaker 3: I can have.
[15:54] Speaker 5: A decent chance against.
[15:56] Speaker 3: Um, but, um, I think, you know, whoever it is, uh, is,
[16:03] Speaker 3: you know, I'm just gonna give 120% and, you know,
[16:07] Speaker 3: really just give it everything that I have.
[16:08] Speaker 5: Um, I would love to be able to play a
[16:10] Speaker 5: night session on Ash.
[16:12] Speaker 3: I mean, that's kind of everybody's dream in this sport
[16:15] Speaker 3: to play, night session on ash and in the biggest
[16:18] Speaker 3: stadium and especially as a new yorker um to play
[16:21] Speaker 3: on those kind of in that stage would be um
[16:24] Speaker 3: kind of i mean that would be the ultimate dream
[16:26] Speaker 3: come true and for me i just love playing in
[16:28] Speaker 3: those atmospheres that the rowdiness the getting the crowd going
[16:32] Speaker 3: and you know just being in that kind of environment
[16:35] Speaker 3: would i think only make my tennis better so um
[16:38] Speaker 3: we'll see how how it pans out but um you
[16:40] Speaker 3: know whoever it is uh we'll be ready.
[16:42] Speaker 4: Sam's not here, but I would be remiss to ask.
[16:46] Speaker 4: First round prize money has been announced, the whole prize money.
[16:48] Speaker 4: Jack Kennedy is going to get $ 140K minimum sent to
[16:52] Speaker 4: his B of A as well as Fargo, you name it,
[16:54] Speaker 4: in a few weeks' time at least. Is that exciting?
[16:57] Speaker 4: Are you going to be refreshing? Are you going to
[16:59] Speaker 4: check that? Do you even have a bank account at
[17:01] Speaker 4: this point in your life yet? And what do we
[17:04] Speaker 4: do with it?
[17:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, it's such a big number. I don't think I
[17:08] Speaker 3: know yet what I'm going to do with all of it.
[17:10] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:11] Speaker 3: Definitely going to put some aside, you know, save it.
[17:14] Speaker 3: Don't be a lunatic and spend it all in one place.
[17:18] Speaker 3: But at the same time, you know, also, you know,
[17:21] Speaker 3: treat myself with some nice stuff. You know, I'm a
[17:25] Speaker 3: big time golfer, so might put some money into that. And,
[17:30] Speaker 3: you know, we'll kind of see where where it all goes. But,
[17:34] Speaker 3: you know, I think it's going to be hard for
[17:35] Speaker 3: me not trying to spend, you know, everything. Um, but
[17:39] Speaker 3: you know, I think I got a, I got, you know,
[17:42] Speaker 3: my parents next to me and, you know, people besides
[17:45] Speaker 3: me that are gonna tell me not to do it.
[17:47] Speaker 5: So I think we'll be in good hands.
[17:48] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[17:49] Speaker 4: Well, the good news is, you know, college is not
[17:51] Speaker 4: even college anymore. You know, you can probably take the
[17:54] Speaker 4: entire five and a half million if you want and
[17:55] Speaker 4: still go play college. So win the whole thing and
[17:57] Speaker 4: go back and go to Virginia. It doesn't really matter.
[18:00] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[18:00] Speaker 5: I think that's our plan. I think that's the plan.
[18:03] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[18:03] Speaker 2: I would, uh, my advice would be to, uh, listen
[18:06] Speaker 2: to your parents. They're a lot smarter than you. Okay,
[18:08] Speaker 2: so don't go spin it all in one place. But
[18:10] Speaker 2: you lean back. You lean back about 10 minutes ago,
[18:14] Speaker 2: and I couldn't help but notice the V on your shirt.
[18:17] Speaker 2: You are committed to the University of Virginia to go,
[18:20] Speaker 2: of course, play college tennis there. They're the defending national champions.
[18:24] Speaker 2: Why was UVA the right choice for you? And what
[18:27] Speaker 2: about Andres Pedroso and the culture that he's created there
[18:31] Speaker 2: in Charlottesville? What about what he's done has made it
[18:34] Speaker 2: feel right for you?
[18:35] Speaker 3: No, I'm super excited to get to Virginia and work
[18:39] Speaker 3: with those guys. I mean, I think they have the
[18:42] Speaker 3: three best coaches in college tennis, Andres, Trent, and Brian.
[18:47] Speaker 3: And I think everyone on the team, the guys are
[18:51] Speaker 3: really awesome. They really push you to make you better. And,
[18:56] Speaker 3: you know, they're great guys. I just think the one
[18:59] Speaker 3: thing that stood out most about them is that their
[19:03] Speaker 3: culture and their bond. with each other is really special. Um,
[19:09] Speaker 3: and I think that's what makes them so good when
[19:12] Speaker 3: it comes to the spring. Um, and I think that's
[19:16] Speaker 3: what pushes them over the hump a little bit more
[19:18] Speaker 3: than other teams is that their bond with each other
[19:23] Speaker 3: is really special. Um, obviously they're have great players and,
[19:27] Speaker 3: you know, great coaching, but the, the culture that they,
[19:31] Speaker 3: build upon is really special.
[19:34] Speaker 2: So Jack, you're inside of the ATP top 400 right now.
[19:38] Speaker 2: Stevie talked about the challenger success you had a few
[19:42] Speaker 2: months ago in Savannah. You took out Kanisha Corey. So
[19:44] Speaker 2: how are you thinking about balancing the college path and
[19:49] Speaker 2: your pro ambitions? I'm sure you have a lot of
[19:51] Speaker 2: pro events on your calendar while you're in Charlottesville.
[19:54] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[19:55] Speaker 3: So I actually recently just decided to kind of postpone
[19:59] Speaker 3: my arrival to Virginia. I'll be ending up going in
[20:03] Speaker 3: January to Charlottesville so I can get the opportunity to
[20:08] Speaker 3: play more pro stuff Um, and kind of really push
[20:12] Speaker 3: the whole year just to finish it out with, um,
[20:15] Speaker 3: you know, pro stuff, trying to just do best we
[20:16] Speaker 3: can for, you know, pro rankings and kind of just,
[20:20] Speaker 3: you know, kind of develop my game the best way
[20:22] Speaker 3: I can to kind of end the year. Um, you know,
[20:25] Speaker 3: it was really tough decision, but, you know, ultimately we
[20:28] Speaker 3: thought me and my team thought that this was the
[20:30] Speaker 3: best decision for us. Um, and you know, a big
[20:36] Speaker 3: goal of mine is ATP gen, uh, next gen finals. um,
[20:40] Speaker 3: at the end of the year. Um, so, you know,
[20:42] Speaker 3: we're really going to push for it. Um, you know,
[20:44] Speaker 3: we have a great team with me now. Um, and,
[20:48] Speaker 3: you know, just really excited for what the future holds.
[20:50] Speaker 5: Um, and it's exciting.
[20:51] Speaker 3: I'm really looking forward to it getting to, you know,
[20:54] Speaker 3: the next gen accelerator program, you know, with their, um,
[20:58] Speaker 3: you know, help with wild cards and I have, uh,
[21:01] Speaker 3: you know, some to use, uh, in the next couple
[21:04] Speaker 3: of months. Um, so I'm, you know, excited that to
[21:07] Speaker 3: get this opportunity just to, you know, kind of finished
[21:09] Speaker 3: the year playing pros and kind of, uh, fulfilling the
[21:13] Speaker 3: dream of mine just to, you know, really push hard
[21:15] Speaker 3: for it.
[21:16] Speaker 5: Um, so excited for it.
[21:17] Speaker 2: I got one more college question for you. Obviously going
[21:19] Speaker 2: to Virginia, amazing school, amazing choice. Where else did you
[21:24] Speaker 2: look at? What other schools did you look at? And
[21:26] Speaker 2: did you consider Georgia and USC at all, or are
[21:29] Speaker 2: they never on your radar?
[21:30] Speaker 5: They were on my radar, to be honest.
[21:33] Speaker 3: Um, they, you know, I kind of kept my list
[21:36] Speaker 3: pretty small, uh, relatively. Um, I was looking, I would
[21:40] Speaker 3: say Georgia, USC, I was talking to a bit, um,
[21:44] Speaker 3: UVA of course. Um, and then TCU, Texas and Michigan
[21:50] Speaker 3: were like the ones I was kind of mainly talking to. Um,
[21:53] Speaker 3: and then, you know, we got deeper, deeper into the
[21:56] Speaker 3: recruitment process and I had to cut down a couple, uh,
[22:00] Speaker 3: sorry for the Georgia and USC ones. Uh, we cut
[22:03] Speaker 3: those guys out, no hard feelings, hopefully.
[22:07] Speaker 5: Um, but, um, And then.
[22:10] Speaker 3: I visited UVA, TCU, Texas. Didn't get to visit Michigan.
[22:16] Speaker 3: Would have loved to visit there, but, you know, I
[22:18] Speaker 3: honestly had my mind set on UVA. And, you know,
[22:23] Speaker 3: when I visited there, I just knew this was the
[22:26] Speaker 3: spot for me. And I'll actually say a story about Andres.
[22:30] Speaker 3: And so I was out in the Junior Davis Cup,
[22:33] Speaker 3: 16 and unders, in Turkey. And this I wasn't committed yet.
[22:39] Speaker 3: I was still talking to the three coaches. And I
[22:42] Speaker 3: was playing my match. And I was like, probably around
[22:46] Speaker 3: 12 o'clock in Turkey, and it's a 10 hour difference,
[22:50] Speaker 3: time difference. And so it's 2am back home. And yeah,
[22:54] Speaker 3: I win my match, get off, you know, do my
[22:56] Speaker 3: cool down, stretch, whatever. And then I get on my phone.
[22:59] Speaker 3: And the first thing I see is a text from
[23:01] Speaker 3: Andres Pedroso. And it's a stream recording of me hitting
[23:05] Speaker 3: a drop shot. And I do the francis tiafoe uh
[23:07] Speaker 3: like salt after i do a drop shot with some
[23:10] Speaker 3: good touch um and he recorded that video and and
[23:16] Speaker 3: sent it to me saying okay fine i'll let you
[23:19] Speaker 3: salt the steaks that i cook down in seville and
[23:24] Speaker 3: from that point i knew andres andres was the one
[23:28] Speaker 3: for me um staying up at 2 a.m and i
[23:31] Speaker 3: wasn't even committed there and i was like wow this
[23:34] Speaker 3: guy is really special so That's when I knew.
[23:38] Speaker 2: He knows what he's doing there for sure. What an
[23:40] Speaker 2: incredible program. You're in incredible place. You're going to, it's
[23:43] Speaker 2: just steeped in history. You've made, you've made a good choice.
[23:45] Speaker 4: There for sure.
[23:46] Speaker 5: Thank you. I appreciate it. I'm excited.
[23:47] Speaker 4: You know, really kind of just wrapping up here. We're,
[23:50] Speaker 4: we're fired up, man. It's, it's, it's amazing to see
[23:53] Speaker 4: the success that you've had at such a young age from,
[23:57] Speaker 4: you know, the juniors to beating Canish Corey, something I
[24:00] Speaker 4: wish I could have done in my career to now
[24:02] Speaker 4: playing in the U S open, man, like just, Hopefully,
[24:05] Speaker 4: you can enjoy this next week at the US Open
[24:08] Speaker 4: from a kid going there with his family. Hopefully, the
[24:11] Speaker 4: ticket requests aren't too cumbersome. Those can get stressful from
[24:14] Speaker 4: time to time. So pass that duty off onto somebody else.
[24:17] Speaker 4: But dude, we appreciate you taking the time.
[24:19] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[24:20] Speaker 5: I'll let my dad handle with that one.
[24:22] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[24:22] Speaker 2: There you go.
[24:23] Speaker 4: Let somebody else. But we appreciate you taking the time.
[24:24] Speaker 1: I got one more.
[24:25] Speaker 2: I got one more.
[24:26] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
[24:27] Speaker 2: Last one, okay? I'm going to put you on the spot.
[24:29] Speaker 2: You talked about how you're a big fan of Rafa. Now,
[24:32] Speaker 2: if you had to be a fan of the three
[24:34] Speaker 2: of us, obviously Sam's not on this call, myself, Stevie,
[24:38] Speaker 2: and Sam, when you were growing up watching tennis, if
[24:42] Speaker 2: one of us was on the TV, who are you
[24:45] Speaker 2: most likely not to change the channel for? Who did
[24:48] Speaker 2: you like the most of the three of us?
[24:50] Speaker 3: Wow, really on the spot there, John.
[24:52] Speaker 5: Wow.
[24:54] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
[24:55] Speaker 4: Good question, good question.
[24:56] Speaker 2: We, we, we can't be offended here. Trust me.
[24:59] Speaker 3: I mean, I love when John was playing Noah Rubin
[25:03] Speaker 3: and Noah ripped his shoe.
[25:05] Speaker 5: That was a good one.
[25:06] Speaker 2: Oh, that was good.
[25:07] Speaker 4: That was good.
[25:08] Speaker 5: That's a good, he's a New York kid.
[25:10] Speaker 4: You weren't watching that for John though.
[25:12] Speaker 3: So I mean, here and there I was watching for John,
[25:14] Speaker 3: I would say, uh, I still give Noah, I guess Noah, some,
[25:20] Speaker 3: some crap for that stuff still with, uh, the guy who,
[25:23] Speaker 3: who broke his shoe during a match.
[25:25] Speaker 5: Um, But I would probably, I would go Sam, honestly, guys.
[25:31] Speaker 5: No offense. I would go Sam.
[25:34] Speaker 4: Offense not taken.
[25:35] Speaker 2: Actually, well, because it's Sam, offense is taken.
[25:38] Speaker 4: He got hurt playing soccer last week.
[25:40] Speaker 2: He got hurt playing soccer. No, we get it. Sam
[25:42] Speaker 2: was big, big serve, big forehand. We get it.
[25:45] Speaker 4: We get it.
[25:45] Speaker 5: Sorry, guys.
[25:46] Speaker 3: No, dude.
[25:47] Speaker 2: No, but Jack, no, I appreciate your time. Enjoy it.
[25:50] Speaker 2: And best of luck. We're going to be up there.
[25:52] Speaker 2: So maybe we'll run into you and. Man, enjoy this
[25:56] Speaker 2: next week of preparation and we'll see you on the
[25:58] Speaker 2: courts there.
[25:58] Speaker 5: Thank you guys. Thank you guys for having me. Been
[26:00] Speaker 5: a pleasure.
[26:01] Speaker 4: Jack, thanks, bud.
[26:01] Speaker 5: Appreciate it.
[26:03] Speaker 1: Thanks to Jack Kennedy. That was an awesome interview.
[26:06] Speaker 2: Nice kid. Wish him luck at the.
[26:07] Speaker 1: Open and hopefully he's going to University of Virginia in
[26:11] Speaker 1: the fall and then possibly a pro career after that.
[26:13] Speaker 2: So we'll see. Thanks, Jack. Speaking of Jack Kennedy, Tennis Warehouse.

[27:12] Speaker 2: Thanks to Tennis Warehouse. All right, we've got exciting news.
[27:15] Speaker 1: IBM is partnering with the US Open, which they've been
[27:18] Speaker 1: a partner with of theirs for a long, long time.
[27:21] Speaker 1: And they've got new technology that they're implementing every year
[27:25] Speaker 1: into the app, into the app. And one of them
[27:27] Speaker 1: this year is serve quality, which I think is really cool.
[27:30] Speaker 1: I feel like for all... You know, the past 20 years,
[27:32] Speaker 1: we can always see serve percentage or if they serve wide,
[27:36] Speaker 1: you know, they're winning this percentage of points. But you
[27:40] Speaker 1: never really did like a deep dive. You never pulled
[27:42] Speaker 1: the layers back. So now IBM has this pretty cool thing.
[27:46] Speaker 1: And John, you'll really love this. They're taking like 21
[27:49] Speaker 1: joint movements. It's like, all right, why is the person
[27:52] Speaker 1: serving well? And IBM is now going to be able
[27:53] Speaker 1: to track and see, oh, their knee movement is good.
[27:56] Speaker 1: Their wrist flexibility, their hitting point. They're like tracking all
[27:59] Speaker 1: these things to really show you why serve quality is
[28:02] Speaker 1: at whatever number. This is pretty cool. When you say, John,
[28:06] Speaker 1: compared to maybe what we used to look at, honestly,
[28:09] Speaker 1: just five years ago.
[28:10] Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I mean, talk about like a deep dive.
[28:12] Speaker 2: This is like they're like limb tracking data. Knee flexion.
[28:17] Speaker 2: It's so cool. You know, there's a lot of candidates
[28:19] Speaker 2: out there where this data is going to be very interesting.
[28:22] Speaker 2: I think the first one that comes to mind has
[28:23] Speaker 2: been Shelton, like kind of how explosive and athletic his
[28:28] Speaker 2: motion is on the serve. So when IBM breaks that down,
[28:31] Speaker 2: I think that'll be very, very cool. But yes. Well,
[28:35] Speaker 2: you'll be able to see if there's a direct correlation
[28:38] Speaker 2: to the players with the most whip, the most knee bend,
[28:40] Speaker 2: the most flexion, the most pronation in their shoulder with
[28:44] Speaker 2: how well they're serving in the tournament. So it's very,
[28:47] Speaker 2: very cool. They continue to push the envelope. IBM does.
[28:51] Speaker 1: That's for sure. So we want to do a little
[28:54] Speaker 1: predictions with serve quality. John, you kind of just brought
[28:56] Speaker 1: up Shelton. I want to go to Stevie now. I
[28:59] Speaker 1: want you to give me one player at the open
[29:01] Speaker 1: that you think will have a really strong serve quality
[29:05] Speaker 1: score throughout the event.
[29:07] Speaker 4: Yeah, for me, it's going to be Arthur Feast. Sorry,
[29:09] Speaker 4: Artur Feast. I don't know if there's an H in there.
[29:12] Speaker 4: But for me, his motion is fluid. He gets through it.
[29:16] Speaker 4: Everything seems to be in sync every time he steps
[29:19] Speaker 4: up the line. And the power he possesses, I mean,
[29:21] Speaker 4: that's just one of the tools that IBM is going
[29:23] Speaker 4: to bring to the table. But I think all in all,
[29:25] Speaker 4: every time he steps on the serve, it's so incredibly repeatable.
[29:28] Speaker 4: It's efficient. It's effective. So I can see his serve
[29:31] Speaker 4: quality being above the average and close to the top,
[29:35] Speaker 4: if not at the top, by the end of the U.S.
[29:37] Speaker 3: Open.
[29:38] Speaker 1: He packs a punch. Mine is, we talked about his
[29:40] Speaker 1: serve on Monday, Brandon Nakashima. You don't look at him
[29:43] Speaker 1: and watch the serve and necessarily think, wow, this guy
[29:45] Speaker 1: has a huge serve. But his accuracy, he hits the
[29:49] Speaker 1: ball great. Two feet from the service box lines, I
[29:52] Speaker 1: think more than anyone on tour and his repeatable motion
[29:56] Speaker 1: time and time again, which we're going to see with IBM,
[29:58] Speaker 1: you're going to see the knee bend the, you know,
[30:01] Speaker 1: the posture moving up where he makes contact with the ball.
[30:04] Speaker 1: It's the same spot every single time. And so for me,
[30:08] Speaker 1: Brandon Nakashima is the one to watch. John, you teased Shelton.
[30:13] Speaker 1: Do you have another one for us to watch?
[30:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, I teased Shelton, but I'm going to go with Zverev.
[30:20] Speaker 2: We know how well he can serve. He did it
[30:21] Speaker 2: at Roland Garros. He did it at Wimbledon. He serves
[30:24] Speaker 2: a lot of times, a lot of matches in a
[30:26] Speaker 2: 3-5 setting, over 70% first serve. So his IBM serve
[30:32] Speaker 2: quality should be through the roof if he has a
[30:35] Speaker 2: couple good serving days in Flushing Meadows. So I'm going
[30:38] Speaker 2: to go with Zverev. Number two seed should be pretty
[30:43] Speaker 2: good and in pretty good shape up there in New York.
[30:46] Speaker 2: Is he the one seed?
[30:47] Speaker 4: Is he the one seed? Carlos is two.
[30:49] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[30:49] Speaker 2: Never mind. Never mind. But it doesn't matter.
[30:52] Speaker 3: One seed.
[30:53] Speaker 2: The one seed.
[30:54] Speaker 4: Sorry.
[30:54] Speaker 1: You said Wimbledon, his serve stats were like through the roof.
[30:57] Speaker 1: It's like some of the best serving we've ever seen
[30:59] Speaker 1: in the history of the sport. So that is an
[31:01] Speaker 1: exciting one to watch. This is going to appear. The
[31:03] Speaker 1: live updates of the serve will appear exclusively on the U.S.
[31:07] Speaker 1: Open app, which you can look at before and during matches.
[31:10] Speaker 3: What?
[31:11] Speaker 2: Alcaraz is number two in the world right now.
[31:13] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[31:13] Speaker 3: No.
[31:13] Speaker 2: Is he going to be three? Currently number two in
[31:17] Speaker 2: the world. I'm just saying. I thought so. Yeah. Are
[31:20] Speaker 2: you right?
[31:20] Speaker 1: Someone told me Zverev was the one seed. And he's
[31:23] Speaker 1: going to be like the first ever one seed at
[31:25] Speaker 1: a major who hasn't been ranked number one.
[31:28] Speaker 3: Stevie? Yeah.
[31:29] Speaker 5: No.
[31:29] Speaker 4: I'm with you on that. I was reading that today.
[31:31] Speaker 4: I thought he was the number one seed. It makes–
[31:33] Speaker 4: US Open I thought put out. US Open itself I
[31:35] Speaker 4: thought put out.
[31:35] Speaker 2: I hate the internet. John, you're right. I hate the internet.
[31:38] Speaker 2: I mean, I'm just looking at the rankings. No, you're right.
[31:41] Speaker 4: I look at the rankings as well. I blame the
[31:44] Speaker 4: US Open.
[31:44] Speaker 1: Literally, on our rundown, we have the suits Zverev as
[31:48] Speaker 1: the one seed.
[31:50] Speaker 2: It's just interesting. This is weird.
[31:52] Speaker 1: Idiots that we can't figure out how to, that we
[31:55] Speaker 1: don't know who the one seed is at the US Open.
[31:57] Speaker 4: It's pretty simple. It's Carlos. He's number two in the world.
[32:00] Speaker 4: I'm looking at the right now.
[32:01] Speaker 2: But yeah, you're right. Man, the suits are going to
[32:05] Speaker 2: get ripped when we do suits pet peeves. Louie typed in,
[32:08] Speaker 2: he goes, Carlos is third in the live race.
[32:11] Speaker 4: God, the suits.
[32:12] Speaker 2: That's their point.
[32:13] Speaker 4: Live means nothing.
[32:14] Speaker 2: It means nothing. It means nothing. Anyway, back to IBM.
[32:17] Speaker 1: The players' overall tournament serve quality will be on their
[32:22] Speaker 1: individual bio page. So you're going to be able to
[32:24] Speaker 1: track it the full two weeks. It's going to be
[32:25] Speaker 1: really cool.
[32:26] Speaker 2: Check it out.
[32:27] Speaker 1: IBM, again, like John said, pushing the envelope, pushing the
[32:30] Speaker 1: limit on the why and what can be seen throughout
[32:35] Speaker 1: strokes more than just percentages made.
[32:37] Speaker 4: What a time to be a tennis fan, you know?
[32:38] Speaker 1: All right, guys, let's hit a little US Open preview.
[32:42] Speaker 1: We honestly can't figure out who the one seed is.
[32:45] Speaker 1: We have in our notes that it's Zverev. We think
[32:47] Speaker 1: it's Carlos online thinks it's Zverev. We go back to Carlos.
[32:51] Speaker 1: Is the ATP app, have they not updated the rankings?
[32:54] Speaker 4: I'm with you.
[32:55] Speaker 2: I feel so stupid.
[32:56] Speaker 1: That we can't figure this out, but this is unbelievable.
[32:59] Speaker 1: But it doesn't really matter if the one and two
[33:01] Speaker 1: seeds are the top half, the bottom half, if they
[33:03] Speaker 1: keep landing.
[33:03] Speaker 2: It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter.
[33:06] Speaker 1: But as of right now, Alcaraz is the favorite, then Zverev,
[33:10] Speaker 1: then Djokovic, then Shelton. We touched on this briefly earlier,
[33:16] Speaker 1: On Monday, John, I want to go to you with Djokovic.
[33:19] Speaker 1: Lost to Tirante in Cincinnati. Kind of said like, hey,
[33:22] Speaker 1: if it's hot and humid, my body's got an issue.
[33:24] Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm dealing with. Weather in New
[33:26] Speaker 1: York actually looks pretty good. Although, can't look at the
[33:30] Speaker 1: weather forecast that far out. Is Djokovic, is the same narrow?
[33:34] Speaker 1: This is his last best chance to win a major.
[33:36] Speaker 1: We've said that now for the last like nine majors.
[33:38] Speaker 1: Where's Djokovic stand in this US Open?
[33:40] Speaker 2: It is. This is officially the last best chance?
[33:43] Speaker 3: No, no.
[33:44] Speaker 2: I really do feel like it is.
[33:46] Speaker 4: We can be right on that, though. Every time, because
[33:48] Speaker 4: it's not like in a year's time it's going to
[33:49] Speaker 4: be his best chance. Everyone is his best chance.
[33:52] Speaker 1: No, in a year's time, what if there's no Carlos,
[33:54] Speaker 1: no Yannick Shelton pulls out?
[33:57] Speaker 4: It'll still be his best chance.
[33:58] Speaker 2: It'll still be his best chance.
[33:59] Speaker 4: It'll still be his best chance. Every time he steps
[34:02] Speaker 4: up to a slam, it's his best chance. I think
[34:04] Speaker 4: we've got to just agree to that.
[34:06] Speaker 2: I think he's locked in for this one. He's going
[34:09] Speaker 2: to have to.
[34:11] Speaker 2: It's hard for me not to worry about what we
[34:13] Speaker 2: saw in Cincy. Yeah, exactly. I wouldn't worry about Cincinnati.
[34:17] Speaker 2: I know he looked, he looked horrible there for his standards.
[34:20] Speaker 2: I mean, it was like, it was, it was, but
[34:21] Speaker 2: he's practicing and he's getting ready. Obviously he knows how
[34:26] Speaker 2: to perform at grand slam. So I think we'll, I
[34:28] Speaker 2: think we will see him in the second week. And
[34:29] Speaker 2: at that point, it's just all about how his, how
[34:32] Speaker 2: his body behaves.
[34:32] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[34:33] Speaker 2: And Stevie outcries in the draw.
[34:37] Speaker 1: You can honestly feel the tournament go from like here to,
[34:40] Speaker 1: to hear when Alcaraz is there. We've even seen the
[34:43] Speaker 1: images of him around the grounds, like walking into the
[34:45] Speaker 1: practice court. He's got that smile on his face. The
[34:47] Speaker 1: crowd is going nuts. He single-handedly moves the needle so
[34:52] Speaker 1: much more, especially in New York, than any other player,
[34:55] Speaker 1: even more than Novak right now or even like a Coco.
[34:58] Speaker 2: Alcaraz is the star of the show. In my opinion,
[35:03] Speaker 2: you kind of agree with that? He is the needle.
[35:05] Speaker 4: He is the needle. He is the needle. He's the
[35:07] Speaker 4: gas pedal. He's the needle. He's everything. He's the whole engine.
[35:10] Speaker 1: He has fed Nadal aura, and he only has six slams,
[35:13] Speaker 1: but just has six slams.
[35:15] Speaker 2: That's fine. Same thing.
[35:17] Speaker 4: Yeah, it's very similar. But look, if you want to
[35:19] Speaker 4: see somebody who's larger than life at the moment, I mean,
[35:22] Speaker 4: this summer we had in New York, you had the
[35:25] Speaker 4: biggest sporting event across the globe. And who was the
[35:28] Speaker 4: first athlete out there at the start of the game?
[35:30] Speaker 4: It's Carlos Alcaraz. He moves the needle. It's incredible. Not
[35:35] Speaker 4: that New York needs a bigger jump and buzz, but
[35:38] Speaker 4: they got it with him. Everybody in the tennis world
[35:41] Speaker 4: was fired up when he posted, see you in New York, right?
[35:44] Speaker 4: It's amazing. He's back. I hope he's healthy because I
[35:47] Speaker 4: would love to see a deep run out of him, obviously,
[35:51] Speaker 4: for not only himself, but it's the tournament, his overall health,
[35:54] Speaker 4: all things considered. But he is amazing. by far and away,
[35:58] Speaker 4: the biggest star in men's tennis. Like not even a
[36:01] Speaker 4: close second.
[36:02] Speaker 3: Yep.
[36:02] Speaker 2: No, you're right.
[36:04] Speaker 1: Also, players getting a little boost in prize money. Winner
[36:06] Speaker 1: gets five and a half million. First round losers get 140,000.
[36:09] Speaker 1: First round losers, by the way, sometimes I hate the narrative. Oh,
[36:15] Speaker 1: they get 140 grand for just playing one match. They've
[36:17] Speaker 1: earned their right in there. They've won a bunch of
[36:18] Speaker 1: matches to earn that. They're still underpaid, by the way.
[36:21] Speaker 1: But it was a nice big boost in prize money
[36:24] Speaker 1: for the players. John, on the women's side, I'm a
[36:28] Speaker 1: little worried about Rabakina. I feel like in Cincy, I
[36:32] Speaker 1: thought I saw it like it was Achilles. Maybe it's
[36:36] Speaker 1: a little sore, but who's your favorite on the women's
[36:39] Speaker 1: side right now? Is it Coco after the magnificent Cincinnati performance?
[36:44] Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. I really think it is. To me,
[36:47] Speaker 2: it's her. I think Sabalinka is the– Stevie.
[36:49] Speaker 3: You're laughing.
[36:50] Speaker 2: I'm coming to you next. I think Sabalinka is the
[36:53] Speaker 2: betting favorite, but last year Coco went in– to the
[36:59] Speaker 2: US Open with not a lot of confidence and a
[37:01] Speaker 2: lot of serve issues. That stuff has seemingly been put
[37:06] Speaker 2: to rest right now. Her first and second round matches
[37:09] Speaker 2: last year in New York were the most tension-filled matches
[37:12] Speaker 2: you could possibly imagine. So she's coming into this one
[37:15] Speaker 2: with a lot more confidence. So yeah, for me, Coco
[37:19] Speaker 2: Gauff is the favorite. Stevie, you were laughing. First of all,
[37:22] Speaker 2: I'm kind of surprised that Sabalenka is still the favorite.
[37:25] Speaker 4: She's still number one in the world.
[37:27] Speaker 1: I know, but she's like the only one that hasn't
[37:29] Speaker 1: won a tournament in the last four months.
[37:32] Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's not like one person has gobbled them
[37:33] Speaker 4: all up.
[37:34] Speaker 2: They've been spread around. Who do you have winning the
[37:36] Speaker 2: women's side then?
[37:38] Speaker 4: No, you can't pick, dude. You cannot pick right now.
[37:41] Speaker 2: You have to pick. You want to just end the segment?
[37:42] Speaker 4: There's 10 to 12 women that could win it. And like,
[37:45] Speaker 4: it just depends on the day. I mean, it's crazy
[37:47] Speaker 4: to think, is Rabak gonna hurt? Can Coco serve hold up?
[37:51] Speaker 4: I mean, John mentioned it last year. I remember being
[37:53] Speaker 4: in New York. Those were uncomfortable matches. to watch like
[37:57] Speaker 4: her first couple of matches. Cause you're like, this could
[37:58] Speaker 4: go sideways. Like, you know, it just like was uncomfortable
[38:01] Speaker 4: watching it. I mean, you were right, but yeah, I
[38:03] Speaker 4: think Coco has got to be towards the top. If not,
[38:07] Speaker 4: you know, the favorite, just the way she's playing, because
[38:09] Speaker 4: if the tennis is there, everything else falls in line.
[38:11] Speaker 3: Right.
[38:12] Speaker 4: You know what you're going to have with her every
[38:13] Speaker 4: time she steps on the court. But, um, my, but
[38:16] Speaker 4: my question is, Like, you know, we've seen Iala Mania
[38:19] Speaker 4: all summer. Does she get to be put on Ash over, like...
[38:23] Speaker 4: Do you know what I mean? Because, like, the other tournaments,
[38:25] Speaker 4: you have to put her on center. I get it. But, like,
[38:27] Speaker 4: does she get put on Ash over... You know, because
[38:30] Speaker 4: there's two matches out there. There's two matches on center.
[38:33] Speaker 4: Two women's matches a day. Like, if she's on the
[38:34] Speaker 4: side with Coco Gauff, Sabalenka, Rabakina, like, who's on center?
[38:39] Speaker 2: I think Iyala is always on center. No, no, no, no, no.
[38:42] Speaker 4: I don't think Iyala's on center, dude. I just think
[38:44] Speaker 4: she's like an Armstrong or Grandstand.
[38:45] Speaker 2: I think. It's like, this is American TV. That's who
[38:50] Speaker 2: goes on. That's who goes on.
[38:51] Speaker 1: And I think Iyala, even in American TV, is the
[38:54] Speaker 1: second biggest star behind Coco.
[38:55] Speaker 4: I don't think so, man.
[38:57] Speaker 2: Guys, I'm in the biz.
[38:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, you don't know anything about anything.
[39:01] Speaker 2: I don't even know who the one seed is on
[39:02] Speaker 2: the men's side. Yes, correct. I'm excited for Iolomania.
[39:06] Speaker 1: I've never been at a tournament that she's kind of
[39:09] Speaker 1: had one of these magical runs.
[39:13] Speaker 2: I want to feel what it's like. We shall see.
[39:16] Speaker 4: It's fair, but I don't know if she's on center, man.
[39:18] Speaker 4: I just don't think so.
[39:19] Speaker 1: We could get also on the women's side, Pagula and
[39:20] Speaker 1: Coco Gauff. If either of them win the tournament and
[39:23] Speaker 1: Rabakina doesn't make the finals, they become number one in
[39:25] Speaker 1: the world. oh we all know that's kind of fun
[39:28] Speaker 1: because you don't always get out of majors are always
[39:30] Speaker 1: fun but when you get the extra little wrinkle of
[39:33] Speaker 1: oh winner could possibly go to number one in the
[39:34] Speaker 1: world just adds a little more spice to the event
[39:37] Speaker 1: so we might have that on the women's side can
[39:39] Speaker 1: you imagine a coco pagula final winner wins us open
[39:42] Speaker 1: and becomes number one in the world that would be
[39:44] Speaker 1: pretty cool just think about it just think about it
[39:46] Speaker 1: um Bracket draw. We're going to do a bracket draw. Guys,
[39:49] Speaker 1: stay tuned for that. This could be our last bracket draw.
[39:51] Speaker 1: Did we discuss that?
[39:53] Speaker 3: No.
[39:54] Speaker 2: Okay, never mind.
[39:55] Speaker 4: This could be our last women's bracket draw.
[39:58] Speaker 2: We discussed maybe just doing the men. The men.
[40:01] Speaker 1: We don't get as many entrants for the women's bracket draw.
[40:03] Speaker 1: That's why we said that.
[40:04] Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
[40:05] Speaker 2: But we'll see.
[40:06] Speaker 1: But for the US Open, we're doing men and women.
[40:10] Speaker 1: We've got a little life advice. Can someone give me
[40:14] Speaker 1: a recap of the Singapore one?
[40:17] Speaker 4: This is maybe a few months ago. We had that guy.
[40:19] Speaker 2: No, no.
[40:19] Speaker 4: We had the guy who was like going to take
[40:20] Speaker 4: the job in Singapore. He didn't want to leave his fiance,
[40:24] Speaker 4: I believe, or girlfriend at the time. They were very serious.
[40:26] Speaker 4: I think they were in Dublin. And boy, like that's
[40:31] Speaker 4: when it got too serious for me on the life advice.
[40:33] Speaker 4: You know, I prefer more trivial things. So I had
[40:37] Speaker 4: to take a break from life advice after this one
[40:39] Speaker 4: for a while. He has written in, James has written in.
[40:42] Speaker 4: Sam doesn't know how to read, but he's.
[40:43] Speaker 2: Going to try and give us a synopsis of it.
[40:44] Speaker 2: It's just a little long. I'll read it.
[40:46] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[40:46] Speaker 1: So stevie good set up he basically goes so i
[40:49] Speaker 1: took the advice i sat oif i don't know what
[40:52] Speaker 1: his girlfriend's name is down alfie there's no hell anyway
[40:56] Speaker 1: did the whole pros and cons thing like isner said
[40:58] Speaker 1: really tried to sell her on singapore and to my
[41:01] Speaker 1: absolute shock she came around to it said she'd been
[41:03] Speaker 1: thinking about it and she didn't want to be the
[41:05] Speaker 1: reason i resented her for the next 40 years i
[41:07] Speaker 1: couldn't believe it we were buzzing handed in my notice
[41:10] Speaker 1: Threw a going away session in the local pub, I'm guessing,
[41:13] Speaker 1: the whole lot. Even played her the episode where y'all
[41:16] Speaker 1: backed me. Wow, this is very serious. She loves Sam,
[41:19] Speaker 1: by the way. Thought John was a lot better. Here's
[41:24] Speaker 1: where it goes sideways.
[41:26] Speaker 2: Three weeks before we were due to fly, the company
[41:28] Speaker 2: in Singapore gets acquired.
[41:29] Speaker 1: My dream role, gone. Restructured, out of existence before I
[41:32] Speaker 1: even started. The recruiter who headhunted me stopped answering my
[41:36] Speaker 1: emails entirely. So now I've got no job in Dublin,
[41:38] Speaker 1: no job in Singapore, and a girlfriend who quit her
[41:41] Speaker 1: own job to make the move.
[41:42] Speaker 2: But it gets better. And here's the kicker, lads.
[41:45] Speaker 1: Her whole reason for not wanting to go in the
[41:47] Speaker 1: first place was that her career was in Dublin. Turns
[41:49] Speaker 1: out the second she actually looked into it, the Singapore
[41:52] Speaker 1: market was gobbling up people.
[41:53] Speaker 2: In her field.
[41:54] Speaker 1: So the one thing keeping her here, gone. She'd already
[41:57] Speaker 1: lined up a role out there and that role is
[41:59] Speaker 1: still standing. So now she has the dream job in Singapore.
[42:02] Speaker 1: Mine's evaporated and I'm the one being told my family
[42:05] Speaker 1: and career are back in Dublin. The exact question I
[42:07] Speaker 1: asked you completely flipped, except now I'm the girlfriend of
[42:10] Speaker 1: the story. You couldn't write it. So I've got two options, lads.
[42:14] Speaker 1: Follow her out to Singapore as the unemployed boyfriend living
[42:17] Speaker 1: off her salary or stay in Dublin and and watch
