Sam Querrey and Stevie Johnson hold down this two-man episode of Nothing Major, starting with a college tennis weekend in Athens where Stevie and John got inducted into the ITA Hall of Fame. Sam also discovers retirement apparently comes with paperwork and launches a search mission for the legendary ball kid from the Almagro match. Then it’s Rome recap time, where Jannik Sinner keeps collecting Masters titles like it’s a side quest. The guys break down whether anyone can actually bother him right now, give Casper Ruud and Luciano Darderi some love, and wonder what exactly qualifies as cramps these days. Plus: Svitolina shakes up the French Open picture, Andy Murray joins Jack Draper, Musetti pulls out of Roland-Garros, Carlos Alcaraz lands a Vanity Fair shoot, and Sam gets an unexpected orthodontic evaluation in the middle of Costco. 00:00 We're Back! 00:20 Hall of Fame Weekend 03:34 Retirement Paperwork 04:21 Find That Ball Kid! 05:10 Sinner Reigns In Rome 07:49 Cramps Rules 12:17 Ruud and Darderi Runs 16:51 American Men Struggle 17:19 Svitolina Triumphs 18:15 French Open Favorites Talk 21:01 Costco Bizarre Story 22:18 Is Iga Back... or Not? 25:30 Major News: Murray + Draper 27:18 Musetti Injury Blow 28:45 Alcaraz Vanity Fair 29:49 Warm Up Week Events 33:48 Why We Run Ads 35:07 Sinner Insane Stats 38:34 Sinner vs Alcaraz: Who Had the Best 2026... [0:00] Speaker 1: All right, everyone, on today's episode of Nothing Major, we
[0:03] Speaker 1: got a big Rome recap for everyone. So let's get going. Jack, John, Stevie,
[0:08] Speaker 1: and Sam got close a few times, never won a slam.
[0:11] Speaker 1: All right, welcome back. Two-man show today. We got Steve Johnson, myself,
[0:17] Speaker 1: of course, we got Charlie Fox and the amazing team
[0:19] Speaker 1: at SIFT. John is on a flight right now. And
[0:23] Speaker 1: that is because yesterday, two of my co-hosts, one we're
[0:27] Speaker 1: looking at right now, Steve Johnson and John Isner, were
[0:30] Speaker 1: selected inducted into the college tennis hall of fame in
[0:34] Speaker 1: athens georgia pretty cool for both you guys especially you
[0:38] Speaker 1: stevie just because you are the i think everyone say
[0:41] Speaker 1: the greatest college player vote all time four team titles
[0:45] Speaker 1: two individual titles 72 match win streak can you give
[0:48] Speaker 1: us a brief overview of the college tennis inductee celebration
[0:53] Speaker 1: that you were at yesterday.
[0:55] Speaker 2: Yeah it was it was super fun obviously you know
[0:58] Speaker 2: it's crazy to think, you know, the, the ceremony was in,
[1:00] Speaker 2: was in Athens, Georgia. It's where NCAA is being held
[1:03] Speaker 2: right now. It's kind of the Mecca of college tennis
[1:06] Speaker 2: from an atmosphere and a soul standpoint in our view. And,
[1:10] Speaker 2: you know, obviously to go in with John Isner, fellow
[1:14] Speaker 2: esteemed co-host here, Kevin Anderson, and then a gentleman, John Frierson,
[1:17] Speaker 2: who's a contributor for, for the sport, who's done amazing things.
[1:20] Speaker 2: And then Manny Diaz, who was a legendary coach at
[1:22] Speaker 2: Georgia for 40 plus years. It, you know, it, they
[1:28] Speaker 2: kind of spoke about, you know, it being one of
[1:30] Speaker 2: the most accomplished college, you know, groups, you know, coming
[1:34] Speaker 2: in with John's success on tour, Kevin's success on tour,
[1:37] Speaker 2: my success on tour, which is really cool for the
[1:39] Speaker 2: college game to just have that camaraderie with these guys,
[1:43] Speaker 2: played them a lot, but the ceremony was awesome. Some
[1:45] Speaker 2: great speeches, some great stories, some great memories, you know,
[1:48] Speaker 2: shared and just to spend it with, with, you know,
[1:52] Speaker 2: obviously with John, who I'm super close with, you know,
[1:54] Speaker 2: we spend a lot of time with him. It's just
[1:56] Speaker 2: with the families and everything. It was, It was a
[1:58] Speaker 2: special day to kind of put like a cap on
[2:00] Speaker 2: an incredible chapter of all of our lives, you know, Kevin's,
[2:03] Speaker 2: John and myself. You know, I don't think none of us,
[2:06] Speaker 2: I don't think any of us really have the success
[2:08] Speaker 2: in the pro world that we do without college tennis
[2:11] Speaker 2: and that pathway. So, you know, we can't all be
[2:14] Speaker 2: Sam Querrey and be too good at 18 and be
[2:15] Speaker 2: top 100 and storm the tour. But, you know, we
[2:19] Speaker 2: chose that path. And it's great to see because those
[2:21] Speaker 2: guys really for me kind of paved the way for
[2:23] Speaker 2: college tennis to give guys like me a chance. You know,
[2:26] Speaker 2: there wasn't that many guys doing what John and Kevin
[2:28] Speaker 2: did back in those days.
[2:29] Speaker 1: So it was fun. It was great. Loved every minute
[2:32] Speaker 1: of it.
[2:32] Speaker 2: So fun to be back in Athens and you know,
[2:34] Speaker 2: we might need to do a little bit deeper dive
[2:36] Speaker 2: into college tennis, had a lot of differing opinions and
[2:39] Speaker 2: such going on in the college world, but unbelievable in
[2:42] Speaker 2: that finals match yesterday with wake winning. What an incredible
[2:45] Speaker 2: weekend comes down to the number one singles match and
[2:48] Speaker 2: a great day for college tennis.
[2:49] Speaker 1: Really. It was just a fun weekend. I think one
[2:51] Speaker 1: thing we can all agree on is the college tennis
[2:55] Speaker 1: championships that was at Athens. The atmosphere looked awesome. It
[2:58] Speaker 1: is not going to be that cool at the UST
[3:01] Speaker 1: Orlando facility. I wish it would just stay in Athens.
[3:03] Speaker 1: It's tricky.
[3:05] Speaker 2: They want to create Omaha, what Omaha is for college
[3:08] Speaker 2: baseball in Orlando.
[3:09] Speaker 1: I get it. I get the view of it.
[3:12] Speaker 2: I think next year might be back in Athens and
[3:14] Speaker 2: the following 10 years it's in Orlando. They've got 10
[3:18] Speaker 2: years to create that soul. that athens has for college
[3:21] Speaker 2: tennis so if they can do it it's great i
[3:24] Speaker 2: still don't i wish it was still in athens but
[3:26] Speaker 2: that's just my my two cents so we can move on.
[3:29] Speaker 1: Yeah all right well congrats again uh before we get
[3:31] Speaker 1: going a couple other things i want to address i
[3:34] Speaker 1: also officially retired over the weekend i didn't know that
[3:36] Speaker 1: you had to submit a form to the tour to
[3:39] Speaker 1: like officially retire we're trying to get a betting sponsor
[3:41] Speaker 1: on this pod and in order to get that You
[3:46] Speaker 1: did it, Steve. You got to send a form to
[3:47] Speaker 1: the tour being like, I officially retired. I'm like, I
[3:49] Speaker 1: haven't played in three years. Obviously, I retired. I told
[3:52] Speaker 1: people I retired, but you got to fill this form.
[3:54] Speaker 1: I can't believe you didn't know that. Yeah, I didn't
[4:00] Speaker 1: know that.
[4:00] Speaker 2: When I left Indian Wells in 2024, when I retired,
[4:03] Speaker 2: I was like, what do I need to do? They're like, well,
[4:05] Speaker 2: if you want to stay off the drug testing pool
[4:07] Speaker 2: and stay off of all that stuff, you kind of
[4:10] Speaker 2: technically have to retire. I was like, what do I
[4:12] Speaker 2: have to do? Because I do not want to Tell
[4:14] Speaker 2: somebody where I am 24, seven, three 65. And they're like,
[4:17] Speaker 2: just sign this paper.
[4:18] Speaker 1: I'm like, great. Here you go. I signed it before
[4:20] Speaker 1: I left. So I'm done. And then one other thing,
[4:23] Speaker 1: I put this in our group chat. I got an idea.
[4:25] Speaker 1: I want to do this. Where are you now? Segment.
[4:27] Speaker 1: And number one candidate is everyone's seen the video of
[4:30] Speaker 1: that ball kid and the Nicholas Almagro match where Almagro
[4:33] Speaker 1: serving the ball kids behind him and the ball kids
[4:36] Speaker 1: running back and he stumbles and he smacks his head
[4:38] Speaker 1: into the wall. And then Almagro looks back all pissed off.
[4:41] Speaker 1: I want to find that ball kid. Barcelona clip. I
[4:44] Speaker 1: think it's Barcelona. The clip's from 2016. The kid's probably
[4:47] Speaker 1: 10 or 11, so he's probably like, I don't know, 20,
[4:51] Speaker 1: 21 right now. If anyone knows this bald kid, I
[4:53] Speaker 1: want to find him. I just want to make a
[4:55] Speaker 1: three-minute interview with this kid where everyone has seen that clip.
[4:58] Speaker 2: I want to know how he can keep his composure
[5:00] Speaker 2: like that.
[5:01] Speaker 1: I know. And then I want to bring on Maguro
[5:03] Speaker 1: to surprise him. He's back. Your worst enemy. All right,
[5:09] Speaker 1: let's get going. Yannick Sinner, fifth Masters Series this year.
[5:14] Speaker 1: He's won Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and now Rome.
[5:18] Speaker 1: Takes out Kasparud 6-4, 6-4 in the final. The only
[5:23] Speaker 1: match he was really challenged, I guess you would say,
[5:27] Speaker 1: was that Medvedev match. But Yannick Sinner, this run now,
[5:31] Speaker 1: he has the longest streak of wins at Masters Series
[5:35] Speaker 1: or just wins? Masters Series. Masters Series. Took out Kasparud
[5:39] Speaker 1: pretty comfortably in the final 4-4. I don't know. What
[5:44] Speaker 1: do you... I don't really know where I'm going with this.
[5:48] Speaker 1: Just talk about Sinner's run here real quick in Rome.
[5:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's insane. I mean, look, what he's
[5:54] Speaker 2: doing is.
[5:57] Speaker 2: You can't really put it into words, although we will
[5:59] Speaker 2: try to do that right now. He's got 34 wins
[6:02] Speaker 2: in a row at Masters 1000 events, which is insane.
[6:05] Speaker 1: And again.
[6:06] Speaker 2: it's a little different than when Novak had his 30
[6:09] Speaker 2: and 31, I think just based on draw sizes and whatnot.
[6:12] Speaker 2: So I'm not, you know, it's still an, it's an
[6:15] Speaker 2: incredible accomplishment. But you know, it's to win five in
[6:19] Speaker 2: a row this year to really not be pushed at all,
[6:22] Speaker 2: you know, without Carlos, there really isn't anyone else, a
[6:27] Speaker 2: close second that is making a push. We all have
[6:30] Speaker 2: who we think could, you know, push center and Carlos
[6:33] Speaker 2: and these guys in these master series, but it's just
[6:35] Speaker 2: not happening. And, It's not easy to do what he
[6:38] Speaker 2: is doing week in and week out, winning these tournaments,
[6:42] Speaker 2: playing on a Wednesday, taking the day off, playing Friday,
[6:44] Speaker 2: taking the day off. It's a toll on your body mentally, physically,
[6:47] Speaker 2: and emotionally. Even though he is winning at such a
[6:50] Speaker 2: high clip, it's still super impressive to write your name
[6:54] Speaker 2: in the history books in this sport with guys like
[6:57] Speaker 2: Novak Djokovic who have won all nine Master Series. And
[7:01] Speaker 2: to do it at 24, it's mind-blowing to me.
[7:05] Speaker 1: It's incredible. And I think that's why he wanted to
[7:08] Speaker 1: play Rome, honestly. Like, I'm with you.
[7:10] Speaker 2: Like, a couple weeks ago, he said maybe he doesn't play.
[7:12] Speaker 2: But this has to be– anytime you get a chance
[7:15] Speaker 2: to write your name in the history books of tennis
[7:17] Speaker 2: at this age, you have to take that opportunity. That's–
[7:20] Speaker 2: and I'm glad he did it because this is– we're
[7:22] Speaker 2: watching history being made.
[7:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, it feels to me like Medvedev, like, the– Outside
[7:28] Speaker 1: of Carlos, like Medvedev's the only guy that's kind of
[7:30] Speaker 1: been close. Remember, they played at Indian Wells, and I
[7:33] Speaker 1: believe it was 7-6, 7-6 in like an absolute battle.
[7:36] Speaker 1: You feel like if Medvedev could have won a breaker,
[7:39] Speaker 1: it goes long in the heat. Again, here they have
[7:42] Speaker 1: that battle of a match. Gets called for rain delay.
[7:46] Speaker 1: Yannick had the trainer out for the cramps. We got
[7:50] Speaker 1: to find a rule in tennis here. This cramping, bringing
[7:53] Speaker 1: the trainer out thing, we have no idea what we're doing.
[7:57] Speaker 1: Like you're not allowed to get treated for cramps, right?
[8:00] Speaker 1: Is that a rule? I don't have the rule book
[8:01] Speaker 1: in front of me, but I thought that was a rule.
[8:03] Speaker 1: That is a rule. But it does seem like maybe
[8:05] Speaker 1: you can get treated for cramps on changeovers.
[8:07] Speaker 2: You can get treated for cramps on changeovers. You either
[8:09] Speaker 2: get like two or three maybe. So you get like
[8:12] Speaker 2: that 60 seconds that you sit down, but you don't
[8:15] Speaker 2: get an actual medical timeout for that evaluation plus the
[8:18] Speaker 2: three minutes of treatment for cramping.
[8:19] Speaker 1: That is not allowed technically. So Sinner, just so everyone knows,
[8:23] Speaker 1: that match late in the third set, I believe it
[8:25] Speaker 1: was like 2-1 in the third, 3-2 in the third.
[8:28] Speaker 1: Started to feel some cramps. Trainer came out, was treating
[8:31] Speaker 1: the cramps during that Medvedev match. Then the rain came.
[8:35] Speaker 1: And then for the people, just the conspiracy people out there,
[8:40] Speaker 1: when the rain came, when they called the match, a
[8:42] Speaker 1: lot of times what happens is if rain is coming at,
[8:44] Speaker 1: let's call it 11 p.m., they'll look at the forecast.
[8:47] Speaker 1: And if it shows like, look, we see more rain
[8:49] Speaker 1: coming at midnight, 1 a.m., 2 a.m., they'll cancel the
[8:53] Speaker 1: match because they don't want to keep players there for
[8:54] Speaker 1: three hours. if there's no rain coming, they'll be like, look,
[8:56] Speaker 1: we don't, we think the rain's going to end in
[8:58] Speaker 1: 30 minutes. We're going to keep you here. So I
[9:00] Speaker 1: know people are like, oh, of course they saw rain
[9:02] Speaker 1: and they canceled it for the day for, for center.
[9:04] Speaker 1: That's not the case here. You know what I'm saying?
[9:07] Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying, and it's like, it's a little
[9:08] Speaker 2: bit of lobbying from both guys, right? Like it's the
[9:11] Speaker 2: same thing when you see, you know, the courts being
[9:13] Speaker 2: watered at the French open or these clay events, like
[9:15] Speaker 2: one guy might want it.
[9:16] Speaker 1: One guy might not.
[9:17] Speaker 2: So you're going to kind of plead your case. Like
[9:19] Speaker 2: you're like, I want it. I want something because I
[9:21] Speaker 2: think it'll help me. And then, It's ultimately the chair
[9:24] Speaker 2: umpire and the tournament supervisors that make that final call,
[9:27] Speaker 2: but you are kind of pleading your case to kind of–
[9:29] Speaker 2: because this is the only surface where you can kind
[9:32] Speaker 2: of have that. You can't ask them to mow the
[9:34] Speaker 2: grass a little tighter during the sets, ask them to
[9:37] Speaker 2: change the hardcore, but you can ask them to water
[9:38] Speaker 2: the clay course. You can ask them to not water
[9:40] Speaker 2: the clay course if you want it to be faster
[9:41] Speaker 2: because you feel like that gives you more of an advantage.
[9:43] Speaker 2: So you kind of plead your case here on the
[9:44] Speaker 2: clay and the same with the rain. You can make
[9:47] Speaker 2: the argument it's unsafe, like I don't feel safe moving
[9:50] Speaker 2: on the clay. Right. Like there's, there's things to be
[9:53] Speaker 2: made and that's kind of all within the rules of
[9:56] Speaker 2: clay court tennis.
[9:56] Speaker 1: I feel like going back to the cramping too. I,
[10:00] Speaker 1: almost just like everyone needs to be okay with like,
[10:01] Speaker 1: you can get treated on cramps on, on changeovers, just
[10:04] Speaker 1: changeovers because that's the rule because you can also fake.
[10:09] Speaker 1: If you're cramping, you can say, I have a sharp
[10:11] Speaker 1: pain in my quad and they can, even though it's
[10:13] Speaker 1: not a sharp pain in your quad and they can
[10:15] Speaker 1: start rubbing the area and fix it. So there's, I
[10:18] Speaker 1: honestly don't think there's a good solution for it. There isn't.
[10:21] Speaker 1: I mean, it's up to the trainers, right?
[10:22] Speaker 2: If they can tell it's cramping right away, it's, it's
[10:25] Speaker 2: hard because you can't like, you can't just like go
[10:28] Speaker 2: out there and tell it's cramps, right?
[10:29] Speaker 1: It's hard. Like you can kind of fake it. You can,
[10:32] Speaker 1: it's tricky. It's just tricky.
[10:33] Speaker 2: That's why they kind of put that rule in probably
[10:36] Speaker 2: a decade plus ago and it's still, still getting tinkered.
[10:40] Speaker 1: Yeah. And then it, You know, if let's say the
[10:42] Speaker 1: trainer goes out and they're like, no, no, that's not cramps.
[10:44] Speaker 1: It's something, you know, that's something else. And then the
[10:47] Speaker 1: player goes on and gets hurt. And they're like, well,
[10:49] Speaker 1: the trainer didn't help me. And then all of a
[10:51] Speaker 1: sudden you got lawsuits on your head. Yeah, it's, yeah.
[10:54] Speaker 1: But back to the tennis. Back to the tennis. Center, unbelievable.
[10:58] Speaker 1: Massive favorite at Roland Garros.
[11:00] Speaker 2: Do you think, I mean, you mentioned Medvedev being like
[11:03] Speaker 2: maybe his biggest opponent right at the moment he's had
[11:07] Speaker 2: some close matches with. Like I think it's, I think
[11:09] Speaker 2: you're kind of, I think you're pretty close on that
[11:11] Speaker 2: with the way he plays. He's able to absorb center's power.
[11:15] Speaker 2: He's this big guy that has great stamina. He can
[11:18] Speaker 2: go out there and play for four or five hours.
[11:20] Speaker 2: He's awkward enough that he can kind of get those
[11:23] Speaker 2: tricky situations. He's just unique enough where he can kind
[11:26] Speaker 2: of get center in these tough situations. So I think
[11:28] Speaker 2: even though it is clay, like Medvedev might be the
[11:31] Speaker 2: guy just because of the way he plays. It's just
[11:33] Speaker 2: awkward enough to kind of ruin the rhythm. It's, It's not–
[11:38] Speaker 2: he's not really playing tennis against Sinner. Anybody who wants
[11:40] Speaker 2: to try and play tennis against Sinner right now.
[11:42] Speaker 1: Has no chance. Like, you know, it's just a different form.
[11:45] Speaker 1: If that match was Roland Garros middle of the day
[11:47] Speaker 1: and no rain, Medvedev wins. Yeah, and Sinner's having like
[11:50] Speaker 1: the breathing problems. You see it on the changeovers. Sinner's struggling. Yeah.
[11:54] Speaker 1: It's a little– I mean, I don't know what it is, right? Again,
[11:56] Speaker 1: we're watching on TV. We have no idea.
[11:57] Speaker 2: But it's like– it's a lot of pressure, right? Maybe
[12:00] Speaker 2: he's going through a lot more than we know because he's–
[12:02] Speaker 2: maybe it's not all– sunshine and rainbows. There's probably a
[12:05] Speaker 2: lot of nerves trying to close out master series after
[12:07] Speaker 2: master series.
[12:08] Speaker 1: Yeah. Week in and week out. I think now when
[12:10] Speaker 1: the Roland girl straw comes out, sinners looking, where's Medvedev? Yeah. Yeah.
[12:16] Speaker 1: That's the guy. Cause Casper roots. Talk about Casper. We're
[12:19] Speaker 1: making the final Casper played unbelievable. Casper's like, we kind of,
[12:22] Speaker 1: we didn't write him off, but he was kind of
[12:25] Speaker 1: just never write him off this time of year. Never
[12:27] Speaker 1: write him off this time of year. I that's on
[12:28] Speaker 1: me a little bit. Uh, he looked, He looked great.
[12:32] Speaker 1: I mean, because he crushed a good draw. He beat
[12:35] Speaker 1: Dartery in the semis. He beat Karen Kochnov, Musetti, who
[12:39] Speaker 1: wasn't playing great. But, you know, Kasper Rudd scores, just
[12:42] Speaker 1: for you guys listening, 1-3, 3-4, 3-1. Lost the set
[12:47] Speaker 1: against Kochnov, but it was 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. You know,
[12:51] Speaker 1: he rolled through the draw, but then he came up
[12:54] Speaker 1: against Sinner and was Just kind of overwhelmed a little bit.
[12:59] Speaker 1: But he is now going to be a top 16
[13:03] Speaker 1: seed at Roland Garros. Huge. Which is big for everyone, honestly.
[13:07] Speaker 1: Which is big for him, yeah. It's big for the
[13:09] Speaker 1: top eight seeds. Correct. They don't have to play him
[13:12] Speaker 1: in the round of 32. I mean, it's huge. It's
[13:14] Speaker 1: like round of 32, exactly.
[13:16] Speaker 2: But it's, I would say, I mean, Castor, obviously, you know,
[13:18] Speaker 2: this is the time of year he shines, you know, brightest,
[13:21] Speaker 2: you know, on the clay and I'd say good effort
[13:24] Speaker 2: from him because 24 months or 24, 12 months ago,
[13:27] Speaker 2: he lost the center. Oh, and one in Rome and
[13:29] Speaker 2: got absolutely shellacked in the quarters last year. So, you know,
[13:34] Speaker 2: you don't want to take, you know, little victories, but
[13:36] Speaker 2: it's gotta be a little victory, right? Played him in
[13:37] Speaker 2: the final, played him hard, played him much better than
[13:40] Speaker 2: he did last year. And, you know, I, he even
[13:42] Speaker 2: says like his games in a better place, his ranking
[13:44] Speaker 2: might not be, but you know, he feels like his
[13:46] Speaker 2: games in a better place and that's all that matters
[13:47] Speaker 2: for him.
[13:48] Speaker 1: Yeah. Shout out to, Dartery? Dar-deary? Dartery. Does anyone know? Dartery. Luciano. Luciano.
[13:54] Speaker 1: What an Italian name. It's not as good as the
[13:56] Speaker 1: Pellegrino guy. No, it's not. Great run to the semis.
[14:00] Speaker 1: We all saw the clip where he ignored the ball
[14:01] Speaker 1: boy walking out to the court with the glasses. Unbelievable moment.
[14:04] Speaker 1: I kind of felt he came out and apologized. He
[14:06] Speaker 1: was in the zone there walking out. Yeah, but we've
[14:09] Speaker 1: talked about it. We've got to stop with the holding
[14:10] Speaker 1: the hands of the ball kids on the way out.
[14:11] Speaker 1: No one wants to hold an eight-year-old kid's hand walking out.
[14:14] Speaker 1: I know. I get it. Yeah, he was in the zone.
[14:16] Speaker 1: He missed it.
[14:18] Speaker 2: When you're in that moment, you have no idea what's
[14:20] Speaker 2: going on. A lot of backlash after and just had
[14:22] Speaker 2: to come out.
[14:23] Speaker 1: Can we stop holding the kids' hands? Darterys won five
[14:27] Speaker 1: 250s on clay, I believe, in the last year. In
[14:31] Speaker 1: Rome here, he took out Tommy Paul. He took out
[14:35] Speaker 1: Zverev in that crazy match. Lost first set 6-1. Wins
[14:38] Speaker 1: the second set 7-6, 12-10 at a tiebreaker. Zverev had
[14:42] Speaker 1: four match points and then darter he got him 6-0
[14:46] Speaker 1: in the third zverev's like that gift that keeps on
[14:50] Speaker 1: giving with the comments he talked about he played on
[14:56] Speaker 1: the second court like the second biggest court in rome
[14:58] Speaker 1: and the bad bounces and the worst court has ever
[15:01] Speaker 1: played on i've never i don't even know what court
[15:03] Speaker 1: it is like they change the courts around all the
[15:04] Speaker 1: time is this the old super tennis arena.
[15:06] Speaker 2: I think this is old super tennis arena because it
[15:09] Speaker 2: was bad at times but it just like zverev came
[15:12] Speaker 2: out was like you know i'm This was awful.
[15:15] Speaker 1: Worst court I've ever played on. You can't say that
[15:17] Speaker 1: about Petriangeli.
[15:18] Speaker 2: I would like– I could fly there and like scold
[15:21] Speaker 2: him myself if he said that about Petriangeli.
[15:24] Speaker 1: It's tough. You lose that match, four match points, then
[15:26] Speaker 1: you go to the press room.
[15:29] Speaker 2: There was more to it than the– the quotes maybe
[15:32] Speaker 2: had a little bit of residue from the match prior.
[15:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. And then Dartery takes out Rafa Hodar, the–
[15:41] Speaker 1: Spanish Sensation, who everyone loves. Hodar right now is the
[15:44] Speaker 1: seventh favorite to win Roland Garros. Takes him out also
[15:48] Speaker 1: 6-0 in the third set in like a three and
[15:50] Speaker 1: a half hour battle at 1 a.m.
[15:52] Speaker 2: This is where you were right on that. You were just,
[15:55] Speaker 2: I think, wrong time. You said Hodar would like kind
[15:58] Speaker 2: of run out of gas somewhere. It was right here
[16:00] Speaker 2: in the third.
[16:02] Speaker 1: Right here in the third. But Dartery is a sneaky
[16:07] Speaker 1: threat at Roland Garros. I don't think to win it.
[16:10] Speaker 1: He could make a quarter. He could make a semifinal.
[16:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, quarter, semi for sure. But I will say, going
[16:15] Speaker 2: back to our college tennis talk, Odar should have been
[16:18] Speaker 2: playing number one for UVA yesterday in the finals, and
[16:20] Speaker 2: they would have really won it if he was there.
[16:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Probably a good thing he turned pro. What's
[16:26] Speaker 1: the mascot of UVA? The Wahoos. What the hell is
[16:30] Speaker 1: a Wahoo? I think it's a fish taco place here
[16:32] Speaker 1: in Southern California. Yes, it's a fish taco place. Other
[16:34] Speaker 1: than that, I don't know. I think it's the Cavaliers,
[16:38] Speaker 1: Virginia Cavaliers.
[16:40] Speaker 2: They say Wahoo. I couldn't tell you. There's reasons. They
[16:42] Speaker 2: keep things very close-knit there. They don't let that secret out.
[16:46] Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. They are the Virginia Cavaliers. Yeah. All right.
[16:50] Speaker 1: That's the breakdown of that. Americans just put up a
[16:53] Speaker 1: big zero at Madrid and Rome. We never expect them
[16:58] Speaker 1: to do well there.
[17:01] Speaker 2: No, I mean, it's like, no, I know. Like Fritz
[17:03] Speaker 2: has been hurt. I don't, we're going to, you're going
[17:05] Speaker 2: to hurt this week. We're going to get some guys
[17:07] Speaker 2: like Fritz is going to do well in Geneva. Shelton's
[17:10] Speaker 2: going to do well in Hamburg. And then we're going
[17:12] Speaker 2: to have all this hope going on the French. And
[17:14] Speaker 2: then they're going to play Carlos in the third round
[17:16] Speaker 2: and we're going to be in trouble or a center
[17:17] Speaker 2: in the third round.
[17:18] Speaker 1: Excuse me. Yeah. All right. Let's move over to the women.
[17:21] Speaker 1: Spitalina with the title takes out Coco golf in a
[17:24] Speaker 1: great three set match. It's her third title. It's only
[17:28] Speaker 1: her third title. In Rome. It seems nuts. Third title
[17:30] Speaker 1: in Rome. Third title in Rome. Oh, my gosh.
[17:32] Speaker 2: I'm an idiot.
[17:33] Speaker 1: I got to read the notes. That seems even more
[17:34] Speaker 1: nuts now. Yeah. We just went from like, wow, I
[17:37] Speaker 1: thought she was better than that to like, holy smokes,
[17:39] Speaker 1: she's way better than I thought. Pretty amazing for Svitolina
[17:45] Speaker 1: and her road. How about her road to the- No, no.
[17:49] Speaker 1: This isn't a walk in the park. No. I mean-
[17:53] Speaker 1: I'm just going to start. She beat Baptiste in the
[17:56] Speaker 1: third round, who Baptiste, remember how great she played in Madrid,
[17:58] Speaker 1: then beat Bartunkova. Throw that away. But then it was Rabakina, Sviantek, Kokogov.
[18:05] Speaker 1: Probably the second, third, and fourth favorites to win Roland
[18:09] Speaker 1: Garros behind Sabalenka. I mean, all in three sets. That
[18:13] Speaker 1: is incredible. Do you think Svitolina, I mean, is Svitolina now,
[18:18] Speaker 1: just because she won this title, is a threat to
[18:22] Speaker 1: win the French Open or no?
[18:22] Speaker 2: No.
[18:23] Speaker 1: God, I love our recency bias on this podcast. Um,
[18:26] Speaker 1: how could you not have?
[18:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I think it's more, again, I think it's
[18:31] Speaker 2: more wide open after this week than it was a
[18:35] Speaker 2: week prior, just because nobody, none of the top couple
[18:38] Speaker 2: people put their foot on the gas and just took
[18:40] Speaker 2: control of this event. That also is a great sign
[18:43] Speaker 2: for the French. Cause there's so much intrigue. There's going
[18:46] Speaker 2: to be so much, I don't want to say draw watching,
[18:48] Speaker 2: but like, you know, certain players have certain, you know, um,
[18:53] Speaker 2: players that they want to play that they play well against, right?
[18:55] Speaker 2: They want to get away from certain draws potentially, but
[18:57] Speaker 2: you've got 10 women who could conceive of at least
[19:01] Speaker 2: 10 women who you could put right now and be like, Oh,
[19:04] Speaker 2: I could see them holding the trophy at the end
[19:06] Speaker 2: of Roland Garros and Svitolina is one of them. And
[19:08] Speaker 2: she didn't just back, you know, she just didn't back
[19:11] Speaker 2: into this title. I mean, she went out and she
[19:12] Speaker 2: took it. Rabakina, Sviantek, Coco Gauff. Like, like you said,
[19:17] Speaker 2: they'll probably be the second, third and fourth favorites ish
[19:20] Speaker 2: somewhere in there at, at Roland Garros. But, You know,
[19:23] Speaker 2: I think, you know, they're all still climbing to get
[19:26] Speaker 2: to Sabalenka. If she's healthy, right, she's going to have
[19:28] Speaker 2: that extra week off because she lost in Rome, which
[19:30] Speaker 2: is going to be, I think, a no big deal
[19:31] Speaker 2: for her. She's been dominant in the majors. And she's–
[19:36] Speaker 2: the only issue for Svitolina is she's not great in
[19:39] Speaker 2: semifinals and slams.
[19:42] Speaker 1: Or in French Open, excuse me. Yeah. She made the
[19:44] Speaker 1: quarterfinals five times, 0-5.
[19:46] Speaker 2: So– but this has got to give her the belief, right?
[19:48] Speaker 2: I mean, anytime you win a master series or a
[19:51] Speaker 2: 1000 level event three times and join the list of
[19:53] Speaker 2: conchita martinez serena williams sharapova and sviantek that's good company
[19:58] Speaker 2: like that means you're i'm going into the french and
[20:01] Speaker 2: playing your best.
[20:02] Speaker 1: Tennis yeah and that's like pagula wins in and then
[20:07] Speaker 1: you had Rabaka to win Stuttgart. You had Kostik to
[20:09] Speaker 1: win Madrid. You've got Spitalina winning here. Then it's tough
[20:14] Speaker 1: to call, but Coco too. I feel like Coco up
[20:17] Speaker 1: until Miami wasn't having a great year. For sure. And
[20:21] Speaker 1: then the run in Miami, and now Coco played great
[20:25] Speaker 1: making the finals here. Coco has just as good a
[20:28] Speaker 1: chance to win Roland Garros as any one of that
[20:31] Speaker 1: group of 10 women. And I feel like she's not...
[20:34] Speaker 1: I honestly feel like Coco's not playing great. No.
[20:38] Speaker 2: And that's what we always talk about. And that's what
[20:40] Speaker 2: makes her incredible. Like, you know, it's easy to, it's
[20:43] Speaker 2: easy to win when you're playing your best tennis. It
[20:45] Speaker 2: is not easy to do it. It again, you know,
[20:48] Speaker 2: we have, we haven't asked Coco this, but it doesn't
[20:50] Speaker 2: feel like she's playing her the most clean tennis that
[20:52] Speaker 2: she plays, but she still finds a way to win.
[20:54] Speaker 2: And that's the most important quality you can have as
[20:56] Speaker 2: a tennis player.
[20:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it totally is. And like, I love Coco.
[21:01] Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw like online, there was that, uh,
[21:05] Speaker 1: little thing like top five horror movies. One, sitting through
[21:08] Speaker 1: a trophy ceremony after you lose. Two, talking after you lose. Three,
[21:11] Speaker 1: smiling with your finalist trophy. Four, sitting through a trophy
[21:13] Speaker 1: ceremony when you lose. Five, ceremony after you lose. It
[21:16] Speaker 1: was kind of funny like Coco just making fun of,
[21:18] Speaker 1: we talk about this sometimes on the show, like tennis
[21:20] Speaker 1: is one of the only sports where like the loser
[21:22] Speaker 1: in the final has to give up, has to get
[21:24] Speaker 1: up and give a speech and click your trophy and
[21:26] Speaker 1: address the crowd. I think it makes the players stronger
[21:30] Speaker 1: and it's good for your character because it's a really
[21:32] Speaker 1: hard thing to do. But it's, It was good to
[21:35] Speaker 1: see Coco laughing about that and smiling. Oh, this is
[21:42] Speaker 1: so funny. Speaking of smiling, I was at Costco over
[21:44] Speaker 1: the weekend. Guy's like, Sam, it's my orthodontist from when
[21:48] Speaker 1: I was like 10 years old. He's like, Dr. Lubber.
[21:50] Speaker 1: It's like, hey, I recognize him. He's like, let me
[21:53] Speaker 1: see your teeth. And I was like smiling for him
[21:56] Speaker 1: like in Costco. And he's like checking like the bite
[21:58] Speaker 1: and stuff for like a minute like in the Costco. No,
[22:00] Speaker 1: he's not. He's like, oh, the overbite looks– or the
[22:03] Speaker 1: underbite or whatever like looks good. Teeth are still– I'm like, yeah, thanks.
[22:06] Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't do much, but it's still intact. Yeah,
[22:11] Speaker 1: it was so funny. That's incredible. I haven't seen it
[22:13] Speaker 1: in like 20 years. This gave me like a full
[22:16] Speaker 1: mouth inspection in Costco.
[22:17] Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you think– so, okay, outside of the orthodontic
[22:21] Speaker 2: work that you got at Costco yesterday, do you think
[22:23] Speaker 2: Iga has done enough this week to get herself back into–
[22:27] Speaker 2: she's one of the top three favorites.
[22:30] Speaker 1: Yeah. Three favorites. Yeah, and I know I'm this guy.
[22:33] Speaker 1: Prior to this tournament, I didn't have her as a top–
[22:35] Speaker 1: Who do you take out? I have her as a
[22:36] Speaker 1: top like six favorite. I think I go Sabalenka and Coco.
[22:44] Speaker 1: And then I go– Interesting. I'm a recency biased guy.
[22:51] Speaker 1: I know you are. I can't help myself.
[22:53] Speaker 2: I think the odds, obviously, compared to the men's side
[22:55] Speaker 2: are going to be much closer. You have Sinner at
[22:58] Speaker 2: minus 4,000 and then everybody else. But here, it's going
[23:01] Speaker 2: to be a lot more evenly matched. And there's going
[23:04] Speaker 2: to be some things you can spread across.
[23:06] Speaker 1: This is the first good tournament Iga's had all year.
[23:12] Speaker 2: That sentence alone is not good because she made the semis.
[23:15] Speaker 2: And she is number one in the world, slam champion
[23:18] Speaker 2: many times over. That's not a good sentence to be said,
[23:20] Speaker 2: that she made the semis.
[23:21] Speaker 1: You're saying it's a good tournament. For her. Because she
[23:24] Speaker 1: has set the bar so high. Yeah. And when you
[23:27] Speaker 1: ask me, like, who do I take out? You know,
[23:29] Speaker 1: and I put Svitolina in third. And Iga's, like, fourth by, like,
[23:32] Speaker 1: the smallest of margins.
[23:34] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[23:35] Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah.
[23:35] Speaker 2: I'm just like, is Iga out of there? Because Svitolina
[23:38] Speaker 2: is number three now, obviously, after her third Rome title.
[23:41] Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I know. And you know what I probably
[23:44] Speaker 1: help Svitolina? A good night of sleep. Sleeping becomes a
[23:47] Speaker 1: pretty big deal when you're watching tournaments in a different
[23:50] Speaker 1: time zone. If you're waking up at 3 a.m. to
[23:52] Speaker 1: watch the French Open and your sleep's being thrown off,
[23:54] Speaker 1: that's why you need bowl and branch.
[23:57] Speaker 2: Yeah, and improving your sleep can start to feel overwhelming.
[24:00] Speaker 2: People think you need a new mattress, you need the
[24:02] Speaker 2: sleep trackers, you need all those wearable devices right now,
[24:04] Speaker 2: the blackout curtain supplements. Those all might help, but suddenly
[24:07] Speaker 2: it turns into this giant project and you just want
[24:09] Speaker 2: to get some sleep.
[24:10] Speaker 1: You might think it's the mattress that matters. It is not.
[24:14] Speaker 1: It is all the other stuff on top of it.
[24:16] Speaker 1: Sheets getting worn out, your pillows flatting. I'm flipping my
[24:18] Speaker 1: pillow like every night like five times. It's the worst.
[24:21] Speaker 1: Bed getting too warm. It's all these little things that
[24:24] Speaker 1: you don't think about.
[24:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's why switching to Bowling Branch surprised me.
[24:27] Speaker 2: The first night I could tell the difference immediately. The
[24:29] Speaker 2: signature satin sheets are noticeably softer. Everything felt more breathable
[24:33] Speaker 2: and the bed just felt better. Just felt like you're
[24:35] Speaker 2: just laying your head on those nice sheets. You could
[24:37] Speaker 2: just get to bed and get a nice restful night's sleep.
[24:40] Speaker 1: And I added the comforter and the waffle blanket. Who
[24:42] Speaker 1: doesn't want a waffle blanket? It made it feel like
[24:45] Speaker 1: the whole sleep setup finally worked. It kind of gave
[24:47] Speaker 1: me that. It's like a hotel bed, not your home bed.
[24:50] Speaker 1: You know, like the hotel bed sometimes like feels better.
[24:53] Speaker 1: Just does. That's what you got now with Bowling Branch.
[24:56] Speaker 2: It's no complicated setup, no new routine. You just upgrade
[24:58] Speaker 2: the bedding that you spend all of your time in.
[25:00] Speaker 2: So that's why you need Bowling Branch. And you guys
[25:02] Speaker 2: can get 20% off your first order plus free shipping
[25:05] Speaker 2: during the Memorial Day sale at bowlingbranch.com slash nothing major
[25:09] Speaker 2: and use code nothing major. That's bowlingbranch.com. B-O-L-L-A-N-D branch.com slash
[25:16] Speaker 2: nothing major. Use our code nothing major to get 20% off.
[25:19] Speaker 2: Bowlingbranch.com slash nothing major.
[25:21] Speaker 1: All right.
[25:22] Speaker 2: Last time it is. Our code would be nothing major.
[25:24] Speaker 2: Some exclusions apply.
[25:26] Speaker 1: All right. Thank you, Bowling Branch. That was winner's circle.
[25:29] Speaker 1: Let's move on now. We got major news. Andy Murray
[25:33] Speaker 1: joining Jack Draper's team for the grass court season. So
[25:36] Speaker 1: that probably in Draper's case is he's healthy. Three tournaments.
[25:41] Speaker 1: Maybe four.
[25:42] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:42] Speaker 1: I don't know if he's going to play. Maybe it's Queens.
[25:44] Speaker 1: He's going to Wimbledon. Maybe one other one. I'm assuming
[25:46] Speaker 1: he's a three guy these days.
[25:48] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:48] Speaker 1: Is this exciting or no? I don't even know if
[25:50] Speaker 1: Draper's going to play. It's not exciting because we don't
[25:52] Speaker 1: know how healthy he is.
[25:54] Speaker 2: If Draper was five in the world and just had
[25:56] Speaker 2: a great year like he did last year, I'd be
[25:58] Speaker 2: fired up for this.
[25:59] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[26:00] Speaker 2: And again, we've kind of talked about it. Andy is
[26:07] Speaker 2: such a tennis junkie. He's so involved. You want to
[26:10] Speaker 2: pick his brain? that's the right guy to pick because
[26:12] Speaker 2: he could break it down for you any given way
[26:14] Speaker 2: you want. And he can, the information would be phenomenal
[26:18] Speaker 2: because he just is that guy.
[26:19] Speaker 1: But yeah, it's like, I love it.
[26:21] Speaker 2: Like when it, when that news came across, you know,
[26:24] Speaker 2: X and Instagram and all that, I'm like, this is unreal.
[26:27] Speaker 2: Like I can't wait. And I'm like, wait a sec,
[26:29] Speaker 2: Draper might not even play, you know? So that's the bummer, right?
[26:32] Speaker 2: I just want to see Draper play because when he
[26:34] Speaker 2: is playing, we've seen it. He's one of the best
[26:37] Speaker 2: in the world and somebody that could potentially be go
[26:40] Speaker 2: after the sinners and the Alcarazes of the world to
[26:43] Speaker 2: have that, especially on grass with that lefty serve in
[26:46] Speaker 2: his home. He's already going to have the support, but
[26:49] Speaker 2: just obviously having Murray with you in England playing these events,
[26:53] Speaker 2: it's going to be just– it's going to be amazing.
[26:56] Speaker 2: I just hope he wants– I just want him to
[26:57] Speaker 2: be healthy.
[26:57] Speaker 1: That's it. But if he's healthy and plays, I don't
[27:00] Speaker 1: think you can challenge him right now. He hasn't played
[27:02] Speaker 1: in a year basically.
[27:03] Speaker 2: Every match he plays, I'm assuming it's going to go south.
[27:06] Speaker 2: Or if it doesn't go south, he plays a great match,
[27:09] Speaker 2: then the next day he pulls out of the tournament.
[27:11] Speaker 2: So it's just a bummer, right? I just want him
[27:14] Speaker 2: to be healthy because he is an electric factory playing tennis.
[27:18] Speaker 1: Speaking of bummers, Mussetti out of Roland Garros now. Yeah.
[27:22] Speaker 1: Remember last year, he went finals of Monte Carlo, and
[27:25] Speaker 1: then he semied Madrid, semied Rome, semied Roland Garros. And
[27:29] Speaker 1: then this year in Australia quarterfinals, he was going to
[27:31] Speaker 1: beat Novak. He was up two sets to love. Like,
[27:34] Speaker 1: What such a bummer. Cause he said he was one
[27:36] Speaker 1: of the guys that again, I don't know if he
[27:39] Speaker 1: was actually going to challenge center, but he could make
[27:41] Speaker 1: a run to the semis, maybe the finals if he's
[27:43] Speaker 1: on the other side of the draw.
[27:44] Speaker 2: And he's just beautiful to watch out there. Like the
[27:46] Speaker 2: game is phenomenal. I don't know, you know, obviously he
[27:48] Speaker 2: was hurt. So he's, I think it's an easy decision
[27:51] Speaker 2: for him to skip Indian Wells, Miami, right? Like skip those.
[27:54] Speaker 2: I don't need to come to the States, but I
[27:56] Speaker 2: think he really wanted to play the clay. Obviously he
[27:58] Speaker 2: did so well last year. Maybe he was still hurt
[28:01] Speaker 2: and things kind of kept lingering. Like, we all know
[28:04] Speaker 2: how it is. Like you want to play, like even
[28:05] Speaker 2: if you were hurt during the U S summer swing,
[28:07] Speaker 2: like you're going to play Cincinnati, you're going to play
[28:09] Speaker 2: the Atlantis or the DCs of the world. Like you're
[28:11] Speaker 2: going to, cause you want to play like your favorite tournaments,
[28:13] Speaker 2: like in home countries. And sometimes that's detrimental to your
[28:17] Speaker 2: success at a slam. So I hope that's not the case.
[28:19] Speaker 2: Cause again, like we're, we've lost two guys speaking of
[28:22] Speaker 2: Draper now, Musetti, like two guys that will no longer
[28:25] Speaker 2: be in the top 10 or, you know, one is not,
[28:27] Speaker 2: one won't be in a minute because he's not playing
[28:30] Speaker 2: these events and they're phenomenal tennis players. And it's just,
[28:34] Speaker 2: it's it's it's a bummer to see these young guys
[28:36] Speaker 2: have these injuries it.
[28:37] Speaker 1: Could make for like come us open time you got
[28:39] Speaker 1: like this round of 32 and it's alcaraz musetti or
[28:43] Speaker 1: something like that but it still sucks um well speaking
[28:46] Speaker 1: of alcaraz he had that vanity fair shoot you probably
[28:48] Speaker 1: saw that he's on the covered covered in the clay
[28:51] Speaker 1: they i feel like his it didn't look like his
[28:52] Speaker 1: face to me they i don't know like a little
[28:55] Speaker 1: too much makeup on the face they doctored his face too.
[28:57] Speaker 2: Much i'm gonna um I'm going to defer to our
[29:00] Speaker 2: resident model experts, Sam Query, to this matter.
[29:04] Speaker 1: The bummer is like Vanity Fair shoot. Yeah, it's probably
[29:08] Speaker 1: a big deal. I don't even know. I never grabbed
[29:10] Speaker 1: that cover. You never got asked? It's like Vanity, right
[29:13] Speaker 1: when he gets hurt, Vanity Fair shoot. You want the
[29:16] Speaker 1: Vanity Fair shoot after you like, they need to put
[29:18] Speaker 1: this out after Australian Open. No, no, no.
[29:20] Speaker 2: When you have seven slams, you can do a Vanity
[29:22] Speaker 2: Fair shoot whenever you want.
[29:24] Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. You can do it whenever you want. Yeah,
[29:27] Speaker 1: pretty cool though. I said to baby Carlos Alcaraz, his
[29:32] Speaker 1: little brother, he's been liking all of our stuff on Instagram.
[29:34] Speaker 1: I'm like starstruck by association. We weren't able to get Alvaro.
[29:39] Speaker 1: Maybe we can get him. get jaime jamie i just
[29:43] Speaker 1: i call him baby alcaraz i don't actually know what
[29:45] Speaker 1: his name is okay maybe i'm making all that up
[29:48] Speaker 1: uh yeah this week too we got a couple we
[29:51] Speaker 1: got a 250 in geneva we got a 500 in
[29:53] Speaker 1: hamburg uh fritzy's back in geneva it's good uh Hopefully
[29:59] Speaker 1: that renaissance fair cleared his mind. He's going to be
[30:03] Speaker 1: playing big. Kasper's playing there. I think Kasper pulls out
[30:06] Speaker 1: of Geneva.
[30:07] Speaker 2: No, I don't think he's going to. Obviously, he hasn't
[30:09] Speaker 2: pulled out yet as we're recording. But if you're him,
[30:12] Speaker 2: you don't need more matches.
[30:14] Speaker 1: You're ready.
[30:15] Speaker 2: You sign up for these events. He probably did that
[30:18] Speaker 2: thing three months ago, five months ago. And he's like, obviously,
[30:21] Speaker 2: it's like, all right, if I do well in Rome,
[30:22] Speaker 2: I'm out.
[30:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
[30:24] Speaker 2: But it's good to see Fritz back because he's somebody, again,
[30:26] Speaker 2: talking about Mussetti and Draper. maybe we kind of give
[30:31] Speaker 2: him a hard time for playing too much. And he,
[30:33] Speaker 2: and he missed three master series pull out of Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome,
[30:38] Speaker 2: like to get his knee, right. So yeah, good for him.
[30:42] Speaker 2: Like good for him. Like hopefully this just makes him stronger.
[30:45] Speaker 2: And you know, not that he's old, but he's, you know,
[30:48] Speaker 2: he's the older guard of American tennis now. And he's been,
[30:51] Speaker 2: you know, flying that flag for the last few years.
[30:52] Speaker 2: So it's, it's impressive to see him like take a
[30:55] Speaker 2: step back and now hopefully he could just hit the
[30:56] Speaker 2: ground running and, get back to the fritz we all know.
[30:59] Speaker 1: Uh over in hamburg there's 500 shelton there tommy paul
[31:02] Speaker 1: there shelton loves the german tournaments huh yeah taking the
[31:05] Speaker 1: title in munich um hopefully they yeah they can play
[31:08] Speaker 1: in the quarters they could meet in the quarters we'll
[31:10] Speaker 1: see the women's tournament in strausberg and boko's there alexandrova
[31:15] Speaker 1: eva jovich emma navarro could play each other in the
[31:17] Speaker 1: second round uh this is like you know there's weeks
[31:20] Speaker 1: before slams they're not forgotten weeks but like No one
[31:24] Speaker 1: really cares. We're just off Madrid-Rome. You can't possibly care
[31:27] Speaker 1: this week before the French Open as a fan. It's tricky.
[31:30] Speaker 1: You just can't. Even as a player, right? We always
[31:33] Speaker 1: played week before slams.
[31:34] Speaker 2: If I felt like if I did well in Geneva,
[31:38] Speaker 2: it didn't give me more hope at the French. I
[31:41] Speaker 2: was just still always draw dependent and stuff, but For
[31:44] Speaker 2: some of these guys, you just want to get your matches.
[31:45] Speaker 2: If you lose that train ride, that plane ride or whatever,
[31:48] Speaker 2: it's not that bad.
[31:49] Speaker 1: You get to Paris.
[31:50] Speaker 2: You just want to– because sometimes it's exhausting practicing at
[31:54] Speaker 2: the French Open for like nine days before you play.
[31:56] Speaker 1: Totally, yeah. Speaking of French Open, speaking of Paris, our
[31:59] Speaker 1: co-host John Isner going there tomorrow. I am going Wednesday.
[32:03] Speaker 1: Whenever you travel, there's a few routines that you keep.
[32:06] Speaker 1: For me, it's using my Nord VPN when I'm out
[32:10] Speaker 1: of the States.
[32:11] Speaker 2: Especially this time of year. We just had Rome. Now
[32:14] Speaker 2: we're into Roland Garros. The matches are on all day,
[32:16] Speaker 2: all night, depending on where you are in the world.
[32:17] Speaker 2: And somehow you end up planning your entire day around
[32:21] Speaker 2: one match.
[32:21] Speaker 1: It's happened to you guys. It's happened to me. You know,
[32:23] Speaker 1: you open your streaming platform. It's like not available in
[32:26] Speaker 1: this region. It's the worst thing ever. Not with NordVPN.
[32:30] Speaker 1: That's not a problem. Yeah, that's brutal.
[32:31] Speaker 2: You always got to turn the VPN on. You've got
[32:33] Speaker 2: to set your location. You can just put it wherever
[32:35] Speaker 2: you want. Make sure everything is ready and dialed in
[32:38] Speaker 2: for all those matches you want to watch.
[32:39] Speaker 1: Yep, that's why I use NordVPN. You can access content
[32:42] Speaker 1: from anywhere. You never miss any of your favorite shows, games,
[32:45] Speaker 1: whatever you want to watch.
[32:46] Speaker 2: And it also keeps your data safe by encrypting your
[32:48] Speaker 2: internet connection. It's an easy way to keep your browsing
[32:51] Speaker 2: private and stay in control of your digital life. Whether
[32:53] Speaker 2: you're at home traveling, it reduces the risk of scammers
[32:55] Speaker 2: and hackers. And I know they're out there.
[32:57] Speaker 1: They're out there everywhere. Everyone's getting scammed. Not us, though,
[33:00] Speaker 1: with NordVPN. It just makes traveling easier. You don't have
[33:02] Speaker 1: to worry about anything. You just flip on your NordVPN
[33:04] Speaker 1: and you're good to go wherever you are. Yeah, and
[33:06] Speaker 1: that's it. It's also great.
[33:07] Speaker 2: You can use the same account across multiple devices, your phone, tablet, laptop,
[33:11] Speaker 2: whatever you want, because that is easy. You want one account,
[33:14] Speaker 2: one password, and you're dialed in.

[33:38] Speaker 1: Check it out. I've got three days until I'm getting
[33:40] Speaker 1: the NordVPN. All right. That is major– what is that?
[33:45] Speaker 1: Major news? That was major news. Major news. Now let's
[33:48] Speaker 1: go to– we got major opinions. By the way, on
[33:51] Speaker 1: the ad reads, I know some people are like, why
[33:55] Speaker 1: do you guys do the ad reads? The pod's expensive
[33:57] Speaker 1: to make, guys. A little inside scoop wig. We spend
[34:02] Speaker 1: hundreds of thousands of dollars making this podcast for you
[34:05] Speaker 1: beautiful people to listen to every year. We're going to
[34:07] Speaker 1: throw in an ad. We've got to do some ads sometime.
[34:10] Speaker 1: We've got an amazing team at SIF. We've got writers.
[34:13] Speaker 1: We've got editors. You see the Instagram clips. This stuff's expensive.
[34:17] Speaker 1: That being said, we're users of the product, so don't. No,
[34:20] Speaker 1: we use the product for sure. We're turning down things
[34:22] Speaker 1: we don't like. That is true. We're only using the
[34:24] Speaker 1: things we want. The way it works is like, you know,
[34:28] Speaker 1: the team here that we've got, the amazing team, they'll
[34:30] Speaker 1: throw in, hey, do you guys like this product? Products
[34:33] Speaker 1: are constantly being sent to our house. We'll use the
[34:35] Speaker 1: products and then give our feedback and then we okay
[34:38] Speaker 1: the ad reads just so everyone is clear on this.
[34:41] Speaker 1: I'm sleeping on bowl and branch leads right now. Yeah, exactly.
[34:44] Speaker 1: We actually okay and test all the ad reads. And
[34:49] Speaker 1: we need the ad read money too. Like, yeah, like we...
[34:52] Speaker 1: We need it. What a business, you know? You know what?
[34:54] Speaker 1: I just want people to know that inside. Thank you.
[34:57] Speaker 1: Thank you for letting the people know. How the bread
[34:59] Speaker 1: is churned. Butter is churned, isn't it? Butter is churned.
[35:02] Speaker 1: Butter is churned. Anyway, let's go to major opinions. Stevie J,
[35:09] Speaker 1: give us your Stevie stats. I've got a lot. Give
[35:12] Speaker 1: us all of them.
[35:12] Speaker 2: I'm not going to give them all because they're just
[35:14] Speaker 2: all sinners related.
[35:15] Speaker 1: You know, like it's just, it's just sinner after sinner.
[35:18] Speaker 1: We can go with him being the youngest man.
[35:21] Speaker 2: To complete the career golden master series, whatever the technical
[35:25] Speaker 2: term is that him and Novak did at 24. But
[35:28] Speaker 2: this is, I'm going to kind of go to last year,
[35:30] Speaker 2: not to last year. I'm going to date us back
[35:32] Speaker 2: to what happened last year is, you know, we had
[35:34] Speaker 2: four different champions in the first five master series events
[35:37] Speaker 2: in 2025. And this year we only have one last year,
[35:42] Speaker 2: you know, it was last year we had a Draper
[35:45] Speaker 2: Menchik Alcaraz. And he won two and then rude in,
[35:50] Speaker 2: in Madrid and, This year, we've only got Sinner. We've
[35:53] Speaker 2: got one guy that's 1-0-5, four that won last year. Obviously,
[35:55] Speaker 2: Sinner missed some of those. Last year, maybe we thought
[35:58] Speaker 2: there was guys like peeking their head in to crack
[36:02] Speaker 2: those top two guys, but it seems like we are
[36:04] Speaker 2: fully supplanted. There's two guys at the top, and nobody
[36:07] Speaker 2: is ready on a daily basis to get there. So
[36:10] Speaker 2: congrats to Sinner. Five slams, or five Master Series in
[36:13] Speaker 2: a row in 2026. Six dating back to last year,
[36:15] Speaker 2: and it is a run for the ages. It is.
[36:18] Speaker 1: Well done. John's not here, but his serve bot of
[36:21] Speaker 1: the week, guess what? It's Sinner. And just so everyone knows,
[36:24] Speaker 1: he held 93.2% of the time in Rome. He's held
[36:29] Speaker 1: over 91% of the time in the last six Masters Series.
[36:33] Speaker 1: He's won six in a row, right? Because if you
[36:34] Speaker 1: go back to, did he win Paris?
[36:38] Speaker 2: Yep.
[36:38] Speaker 1: Shanghai. No, Paris, Paris. No, Shanghai, he retired. Paris, yeah.
[36:42] Speaker 1: So he's won six in a row. And the hold
[36:45] Speaker 1: rate is over 91%. Those are stats you usually see
[36:49] Speaker 1: with our co-host, John Isner, or like an Ivo Karlovic.
[36:52] Speaker 1: Not even that high, honestly.
[36:53] Speaker 2: Let's continue to piggyback on center. He might be a
[36:56] Speaker 2: return bot as well. Dude, he's breaking in those six
[36:59] Speaker 2: master series in a row that he's won. He's broken 35%
[37:03] Speaker 2: of the time. I feel like in tennis, I mean,
[37:05] Speaker 2: Sam's not a huge stats guy, but as long as
[37:08] Speaker 2: your hold rate plus your break rate is above 100%,
[37:11] Speaker 2: you are a damn good tennis player. And right now,
[37:15] Speaker 2: you know, if you put those numbers together, he's at 130%,
[37:17] Speaker 2: which is astronomically high.
[37:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, that is crazy. Wow. All right, let's go to
[37:24] Speaker 1: my queries query. I'm going to throw a stat out,
[37:26] Speaker 1: then I have two other questions. This is kind of funny.
[37:29] Speaker 1: You see this with Kasparud, like the historic matches he's
[37:32] Speaker 1: been part of? He's on the wrong side of them all.
[37:34] Speaker 1: He was the opponent when Rafa won his 14th major
[37:38] Speaker 1: at Roland Garros. His 14th, sorry, his 14th Roland Garros.
[37:42] Speaker 1: He was the opponent when Alcaraz became the youngest ATP
[37:45] Speaker 1: world number one at the 2022 U.S. Open final. He
[37:49] Speaker 1: was the opponent when Novak won his 23rd Grand Slam
[37:52] Speaker 1: at Roland Garros. And now he's been the opponent when
[37:55] Speaker 1: Yannick Sinner wins Rome to complete the Golden Master Series.
[37:59] Speaker 1: Congrats to Kasper. He's kind of like the ultimate loser.
[38:03] Speaker 1: He's like the ultimate pump-up guy. Yeah. He's so good, dude. But, like,
[38:11] Speaker 1: this is, like, you know when you're in high school and, like,
[38:13] Speaker 1: your team always plays a crappy high school at homecoming? Oh, yeah.
[38:17] Speaker 1: Casper's getting that. You just, you feel, but Casper's, like,
[38:21] Speaker 1: just like. Casper's so good, though.
[38:22] Speaker 2: Like, all his slams, like, he's playing. Even Casper, you
[38:24] Speaker 2: go to a slam title or slam finals, it's like,
[38:26] Speaker 2: it's Rafa.
[38:27] Speaker 1: It's Novak. Like, he's not, he's not, it's Alcaraz. Like,
[38:30] Speaker 1: he's not getting that soft spot. No. So, my query is,
[38:36] Speaker 1: and I asked this before, who's having a better year,
[38:39] Speaker 1: Sinner or Alcaraz? Alcaraz obviously has the major. Right now,
[38:46] Speaker 1: it's still Alcaraz. It's still Alcaraz. I know.
[38:50] Speaker 2: But dude, I honestly think winning nine Master Series in
[38:57] Speaker 2: a row, let's just call a spade a spade, complete hypothetical.
[39:01] Speaker 2: Sinner wins nine Master Series. Is that almost more impressive
[39:07] Speaker 2: than four slams?
[39:08] Speaker 1: I've been thinking about this since last night. If you
[39:11] Speaker 1: ask a generic sports fan who's having the better year,
[39:16] Speaker 1: they would say Carlos Alcaraz because they watched the Australian Open. What?
[39:21] Speaker 1: Am I a generic sports fan then? No, no, you're
[39:22] Speaker 1: an insider. Okay. If you ask a tennis fan, they're like, no,
[39:27] Speaker 1: Sinner's having the better year. He just won five Masters
[39:29] Speaker 1: Series in a row.
[39:30] Speaker 2: If Sinner wins French Open, my answer in two and
[39:34] Speaker 2: a half weeks' time will be different.
[39:36] Speaker 1: Oh, then it's like obvious. 100%. What if the French Open–
[39:39] Speaker 1: what if like– Rude wins the French Open, and then
[39:42] Speaker 1: Jack Draper wins Wimbledon, and then Medvedev wins the U.S. Open.
[39:45] Speaker 1: But in the meantime, Sinner wins all nine Masters Series,
[39:48] Speaker 1: but Carlos still wins the Australian Open. Sinner, because that's
[39:50] Speaker 1: never been done before. That's never been done before, yeah. No,
[39:54] Speaker 1: but you're right.
[39:54] Speaker 2: No, no, it's like as soon as Sinner wins a slam, obviously,
[39:57] Speaker 2: because then if he wins the French, we're getting ahead
[40:00] Speaker 2: of ourselves, but he wins the French, he completes a
[40:03] Speaker 2: career Grand Slam, then it's like we're no longer here.
[40:06] Speaker 1: We're like Sinner is here. Is this Carlos down here? Yeah,
[40:12] Speaker 1: I'm saying like if Sinner can win. In the grand
[40:13] Speaker 1: scheme of things, you're saying. Like in the year, in
[40:16] Speaker 1: the year category. In the year, yeah.
[40:17] Speaker 2: Because he's got five Master Series and the career Grand Slams.
[40:20] Speaker 1: Like he's now breaking records. Like, you know what I mean?
[40:23] Speaker 2: Like I still give Carlos the edge because he's the
[40:25] Speaker 2: youngest man to ever put his name in the history
[40:27] Speaker 2: books as a career Grand Slam winner.
[40:29] Speaker 1: Like that's insane. Yeah, and it's all about slams. No one–
[40:33] Speaker 1: if you ask me right now how many Master Series
[40:35] Speaker 1: does Federer have, I don't know. I don't know. I
[40:38] Speaker 1: don't know how many slams he's got. Or Rafa or
[40:41] Speaker 1: Novak or anyone. Yeah, Rafa cares that he never won
[40:44] Speaker 1: the year-end finals? I don't think so. Yeah, I know.
[40:47] Speaker 2: So it's a good topic, but if Sinner can win
[40:49] Speaker 2: the French, then you're like, Sinner, that bumps you up
[40:53] Speaker 2: over Alcaraz with.
[40:54] Speaker 1: Five Masters Series. I think because we have a tennis audience,
[40:58] Speaker 1: if we put a poll up who's having a better year,
[41:00] Speaker 1: Sinner wins.
[41:01] Speaker 2: Yeah, and again, just because you see his– I mean,
[41:04] Speaker 2: Ostranova was four months ago.
[41:06] Speaker 1: People don't even remember he won it. except for us,
[41:08] Speaker 1: you know? My next door neighbor has no idea what
[41:10] Speaker 1: Madrid and Roma are. Correct. But like the tennis fans,
[41:13] Speaker 1: you're like, that is an amazing feat to win those.
[41:16] Speaker 1: It's an unbelievable feat.
[41:18] Speaker 2: And he's not just back, you know, he's just not
[41:20] Speaker 2: backdooring his way into these titles. It's pure domination.
[41:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. My other question is, it's not really a question.
[41:27] Speaker 1: I feel like anytime you see someone now and they've
[41:30] Speaker 1: lost a little weight, maybe they look good, do you
[41:32] Speaker 1: instantly go to the Rano Zempik or a GPL1, whatever
[41:36] Speaker 1: you call it, GP? GLP-1. No one gets the benefit
[41:39] Speaker 1: of the doubt anymore of working out and good diet.
[41:44] Speaker 1: You see anyone that drops weight, I'm just like, they're
[41:46] Speaker 1: probably on the jab. You feel like that? You don't
[41:48] Speaker 1: think about it. You just want them to be healthy.
[41:50] Speaker 1: You just want to be healthy. That's it. No, but
[41:53] Speaker 1: when you see someone lose a little weight, you don't
[41:56] Speaker 1: think they're on the jab?
[41:56] Speaker 2: No.
[41:58] Speaker 1: Wow. I don't think about that. I think everyone is.
[42:03] Speaker 1: I'm not. You're just a mean guy. You got to
[42:07] Speaker 1: look what's best for the people. If I needed to
[42:10] Speaker 1: take it, I would. But I just– I saw someone
[42:14] Speaker 1: the other day that like looked good. I'm like, there's
[42:17] Speaker 1: no way they're working out. Like they're for sure on Ozempic.
[42:20] Speaker 1: You got to find the good in people. Just trying
[42:24] Speaker 1: to better themselves one way. I love it. I would
[42:27] Speaker 1: do it in a heartbeat. I would totally jab myself
