[0:00] Speaker 1: Our next guest is a food stylist, magazine editor, television
[0:03] Speaker 1: presenter and author of 27 best-selling cookbooks.
[0:06] Speaker 2: Now, I hope you haven't been listening to our show
[0:17] Speaker 2: this morning.
[0:28] Speaker 3: Because you have been the tour of the town. Because
[0:31] Speaker 3: our Jace Hawkins has been harassing you, hasn't he?
[0:35] Speaker 4: Yeah. We're hot on DMs. Can you back me up? Oh, sorry, sorry.
[0:40] Speaker 5: We think he's harassing you.
[0:43] Speaker 4: We're hot on DMs.
[0:44] Speaker 5: Hot on the DMs. Has he been inappropriate, Donna Hay?
[0:50] Speaker 5: He's turned your microphone off.
[0:51] Speaker 6: Sorry, sorry, sorry.
[0:52] Speaker 5: Has he been inappropriate?
[0:54] Speaker 4: No, I wouldn't say yes.
[0:55] Speaker 5: He's turned it off again.
[0:56] Speaker 1: No, no, no.
[0:56] Speaker 6: I think the book's turning it off.
[0:58] Speaker 1: Oh, it's a touchscreen.
[0:59] Speaker 6: That's what it is.
[1:00] Speaker 5: Oh, my gosh.
[1:01] Speaker 3: It is a bit dodgy that every time I say
[1:03] Speaker 3: he's being inappropriate, the microphone goes off. No, no, no.
[1:06] Speaker 2: It's not me.
[1:06] Speaker 4: I don't think it's me. You can see what's happening here.
[1:09] Speaker 1: Okay. So you've been communicating over the DMs. Now, who
[1:12] Speaker 1: initiated the contact?
[1:14] Speaker 4: I did.
[1:15] Speaker 1: Oh, okay. That's disappointing.
[1:16] Speaker 3: But that's because you were doing some marketing because you
[1:19] Speaker 3: have an amazing new kids cookbook.
[1:20] Speaker 7: I did, and we had so much fun last time
[1:23] Speaker 7: I was here that I was saying to my team, hey,
[1:24] Speaker 7: who are those refund guys?
[1:26] Speaker 5: I don't even know who that is.
[1:28] Speaker 4: And it's this guy. No, who are they? Has anyone
[1:30] Speaker 4: got their contact numbers?
[1:31] Speaker 5: I thought, you know what?
[1:33] Speaker 7: I'll just start DMing them and see, yeah, see if
[1:36] Speaker 7: they thought it was fun too.
[1:37] Speaker 3: Do you know that episode of The Simpsons where Ralph
[1:40] Speaker 3: Wiggum doesn't get the Valentine's card and his heart breaks
[1:43] Speaker 3: in half?
[1:43] Speaker 5: I just saw that happen to Jason in real time.
[1:45] Speaker 1: Like the I choo-choo-choo-choo's you.
[1:47] Speaker 7: Yes, yes.
[1:49] Speaker 1: So, Donna, what you're saying is you're not in a
[1:51] Speaker 1: situation ship with our Jace. Because we did an entire
[1:55] Speaker 1: phone topic on it at 6.30. Jesus Christ.
[1:56] Speaker 3: Jace is in love with you and you don't know
[2:00] Speaker 3: about it.
[2:01] Speaker 6: We're all in love with you, Donna.
[2:02] Speaker 7: We just talked about some hot topics like the anxiety
[2:05] Speaker 7: of a school pickup.
[2:06] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[2:07] Speaker 4: You know, we were.
[2:08] Speaker 6: We were bonding.
[2:09] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[2:09] Speaker 5: Trauma bonding.
[2:10] Speaker 3: Exactly.
[2:11] Speaker 6: Whatever works.
[2:13] Speaker 1: Okay.
[2:13] Speaker 5: Enough about him. More about you.
[2:15] Speaker 6: You were lovely enough to send my kids the new cookbook,
[2:18] Speaker 6: Kids Baking by Donna Hay, which features kids on the cover.
[2:22] Speaker 6: They're beautiful children of yours.
[2:23] Speaker 2: No.
[2:25] Speaker 5: Don't eat the.
[2:26] Speaker 4: No, it's not my children. And he's never going to
[2:28] Speaker 4: forgive me, the little one, ever.
[2:30] Speaker 1: No, I wouldn't either.
[2:31] Speaker 6: Whisk, bake, share.
[2:32] Speaker 1: I love this. So is this making cooking easier for kids?
[2:35] Speaker 1: Is it trying to ignite something in kids for later
[2:38] Speaker 1: in life?
[2:38] Speaker 2: Well.
[2:40] Speaker 7: I think that kids come to cooking through icky, sticky,
[2:43] Speaker 7: sweet things, which is exactly the way I did. So
[2:45] Speaker 7: I've got heaps of healthy kids' recipes, but I just
[2:48] Speaker 7: leaned into the fact that you just need to get
[2:50] Speaker 7: in the kitchen.
[2:51] Speaker 1: Yes.
[2:51] Speaker 4: Get your hands dirty. Yeah.
[2:53] Speaker 7: So what more motivating way than to do all the
[2:56] Speaker 7: step-by-step so they can look at all the pictures and
[2:59] Speaker 7: follow it and just... Get cooking and then hopefully, you know,
[3:02] Speaker 7: have a skill for later life.
[3:04] Speaker 3: For someone like me who's not good in the kitchen,
[3:07] Speaker 3: but I don't have children, is this just simple recipes
[3:09] Speaker 3: that I might be able to do as well?
[3:11] Speaker 4: Lauren, lots of adults are leaning into this book.
[3:13] Speaker 3: Great. Yeah.
[3:14] Speaker 4: Follow the steps. You'll be.
[3:15] Speaker 5: It's simple.
[3:16] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[3:16] Speaker 5: Great. I love that.
[3:18] Speaker 6: Just like how the Uber Eats driver follows the steps
[3:19] Speaker 6: to get to your house.
[3:21] Speaker 5: That's my kind of cooking.
[3:23] Speaker 4: That's good for you. I did see a little clip
[3:25] Speaker 4: of you having room service the other day.
[3:26] Speaker 6: Oh, that could have been any day.
[3:28] Speaker 5: That was a disaster.
[3:29] Speaker 3: I was a bit hungover and I was in New
[3:31] Speaker 3: York and the room service came in the middle of
[3:33] Speaker 3: the show.
[3:33] Speaker 4: I did see that. And you didn't want to be
[3:36] Speaker 4: part of it.
[3:36] Speaker 5: No, I didn't. It wasn't my finest moment.
[3:38] Speaker 1: Donna, or should I say Queen, that's what my sister
[3:40] Speaker 1: calls you, what's a good thing for kids to cook?
[3:43] Speaker 1: What do you think? Where should we start?
[3:46] Speaker 7: Well, it depends on their school level because, you know,
[3:48] Speaker 7: we do have kids that are quite accomplished.
[3:50] Speaker 4: They watch, you know, so much.
[3:52] Speaker 7: Food on TV that they want to get stuck into
[3:55] Speaker 7: something like cinnamon scrolls. But then I've done really easy
[3:58] Speaker 7: things for their lunch boxes, like granola bars that don't
[4:01] Speaker 7: have any yucky stuff in them or nuts.
[4:04] Speaker 4: So, you know, it depends where they are. I just.
[4:06] Speaker 4: I did really simple kind of.
[4:08] Speaker 7: Melt and mix things as well because, you know, you've
[4:10] Speaker 7: got to have an adult usually somewhere in the mix sometimes.
[4:14] Speaker 4: So it depends really on what motivates them.
[4:17] Speaker 5: These are so cute. Are they apple pies?
[4:19] Speaker 4: Oh, little apple pies. Aren't they cute? Oh, little apple pies. Yum.
[4:23] Speaker 5: I love apple pies. Oh, jeez.
[4:24] Speaker 6: They look bloody good.
[4:25] Speaker 5: What is your favorite recipe in here?
[4:28] Speaker 4: It changes, but I did bring it today.
[4:30] Speaker 7: Well, are we allowed to speak about it or is
[4:32] Speaker 7: it the unspoken case?
[4:33] Speaker 5: You're absolutely.
[4:34] Speaker 3: So what's happened is Donna Hay has rolled in here
[4:37] Speaker 3: with this divine looking cake box.
[4:39] Speaker 6: It's a beautiful cake.
[4:40] Speaker 3: Before our microphones are up and before Donna walked in,
[4:43] Speaker 3: I said, hang on, it's Felix's 13th birthday.
[4:46] Speaker 6: My son, yep.
[4:46] Speaker 5: Has Jason coaxed.
[4:48] Speaker 1: Donna Hay in here to.
[4:50] Speaker 5: Get a free birthday cake? Is that what's happened?
[4:53] Speaker 1: No.
[4:53] Speaker 4: I did bring you a cake.
[4:54] Speaker 1: Yay!
[4:55] Speaker 5: Because we are eating cake.
[4:57] Speaker 6: Where's Felix's cake?
[4:58] Speaker 5: You promised. In your face, Felix.
[5:01] Speaker 6: So what's this?
[5:02] Speaker 7: So, Felix, it's a chocolate cake. And it's just a really,
[5:07] Speaker 7: really simple melt and mix chocolate cake. Because when I
[5:10] Speaker 7: was little, I wanted.
[5:10] Speaker 5: What does melt and mix mean for those of us
[5:12] Speaker 5: who don't know?
[5:12] Speaker 7: It means you don't have to get out the big
[5:14] Speaker 7: beater thing, Laurie.
[5:15] Speaker 4: Just a bowl and a spoon.
[5:17] Speaker 1: Oh.
[5:17] Speaker 4: So this is for you.
[5:18] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[5:19] Speaker 7: And then the icing is really silky and it's really
[5:24] Speaker 7: easy to spread on the cake. So when I was little,
[5:26] Speaker 7: I wanted to be in charge of all the birthday
[5:28] Speaker 7: cakes because, you know, it's grand.
[5:30] Speaker 5: Please don't drop that, Jacob.
[5:32] Speaker 4: Oh, my goodness. That's some weight.
[5:35] Speaker 1: Look at the thickness of the icing.
[5:36] Speaker 6: That's got some.
[5:37] Speaker 1: Weight to it.
[5:37] Speaker 5: Can you put it down? Don't drop that.
[5:39] Speaker 6: Felix is going to love that.
[5:40] Speaker 2: Divine.
[5:41] Speaker 3: Put your germy fingers off it. Don't dunk your finger
[5:44] Speaker 3: in the icing.
[5:45] Speaker 6: I think I mentioned it last time when you were
[5:48] Speaker 6: saying no mixer and stuff required. The Donahue pancake mix
[5:52] Speaker 6: is a game changer. It's like shake and pour. You've
[5:56] Speaker 6: just got to add a few more ingredients, but it
[5:58] Speaker 6: actually makes it feel like.
[5:59] Speaker 3: What about the cinnamon donut pancakes in the recipe book?
[6:03] Speaker 4: They look so good. They're a bit dangerous.
[6:04] Speaker 7: You know when you just eat one or two and
[6:06] Speaker 7: then you turn around and you've eaten 10?
[6:08] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[6:08] Speaker 3: That's that.
[6:08] Speaker 5: Well, come on.
[6:09] Speaker 1: Get a knife out, Jase. We must try. Clint?
[6:11] Speaker 6: Why don't you ask Donna the question you had before
[6:14] Speaker 6: the song finished?
[6:14] Speaker 1: What was that?
[6:15] Speaker 6: When she was walking in with the cake.
[6:17] Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, because Donna's very, very busy. I just
[6:20] Speaker 1: wanted to know if you were slaving away at the
[6:21] Speaker 1: Adina Apartments or wherever you.
[6:23] Speaker 5: Were staying in the kitchenette.
[6:25] Speaker 3: And I said, Donna's got stuff.
[6:27] Speaker 6: You're a whiz.
[6:27] Speaker 1: Of course you did.
[6:28] Speaker 4: Of course I did.
[6:29] Speaker 7: Got up super early to whip that up in my new.
[6:33] Speaker 5: Donna Hay by Green Pan Trades.
[6:35] Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, because we've got some trays here as well.
[6:38] Speaker 5: Do you know what? We should do a bake-off, the
[6:40] Speaker 5: three of us.
[6:41] Speaker 3: The staff have to vote who made the best Donna
[6:44] Speaker 3: Hay whisk bake share recipe.
[6:48] Speaker 6: So the staff made the cake. The staff weren't the
[6:50] Speaker 6: ones I was talking to on... Instagram, were they?
[6:52] Speaker 1: No, it was me.
[6:52] Speaker 6: I can't just check.
[6:53] Speaker 5: He really, really thinks you're friends and we have been dating. Really?
[6:57] Speaker 4: No, we're friends now.
[6:58] Speaker 5: Friends now.
[6:59] Speaker 4: I would say we're friends now.
[7:00] Speaker 5: Because she's been put on the spot.
[7:01] Speaker 4: He didn't reply to me for like a week though.
[7:04] Speaker 4: He showed me.
[7:04] Speaker 7: A message and you said something like Donna, you need.
[7:09] Speaker 2: A new friend.
[7:11] Speaker 4: I felt so awkward.
[7:12] Speaker 3: No, no, no.
[7:12] Speaker 6: It's just they say keep them keen.
[7:15] Speaker 4: She's not in love with you.
[7:17] Speaker 5: She's trying to send you a cookbook, mate.
[7:19] Speaker 4: You're such a freak.
[7:20] Speaker 5: Poor kids.
[7:21] Speaker 4: Family didn't get that cookbook.
[7:23] Speaker 3: I know.
[7:23] Speaker 5: So that was rude and you should apologise, Jason.
[7:25] Speaker 6: I apologise, Queen.
[7:26] Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
[7:26] Speaker 2: I did.
[7:27] Speaker 6: That was the first thing I said. I'm like, I've
[7:29] Speaker 6: left Donna Hay on read.
[7:30] Speaker 5: I'm in trouble with my wife.
[7:31] Speaker 6: Don't bring her into it.
[7:33] Speaker 3: He's put a privacy screen on his phone and he's
[7:35] Speaker 3: lying in bed messaging Donna Hay.
[7:36] Speaker 5: No wonder he's in trouble with his wife.
[7:38] Speaker 4: You know what?
[7:38] Speaker 1: We should.
[7:40] Speaker 4: This is taking a turn.
[7:41] Speaker 1: We should make Jace cook for Donna Hayes.
[7:43] Speaker 3: Oh, no.
[7:44] Speaker 1: Yes.
[7:45] Speaker 4: That's a great idea. I'm sure that your kitchenette here
[7:49] Speaker 4: is well equipped.
[7:50] Speaker 1: Oh, it's beautiful, Donna.
[7:52] Speaker 5: What did you call it? A melt and mix.
[7:54] Speaker 2: Yes.
[7:54] Speaker 6: I'll melt and mix for you next time you're in.
[7:57] Speaker 5: Okay.
[7:57] Speaker 6: Done.
[7:58] Speaker 5: I didn't like the way you said that.
[7:59] Speaker 3: Okay.
[7:59] Speaker 2: Hey.
[8:02] Speaker 6: The Donna Hay by Greenpan collection is out now as well.
[8:07] Speaker 6: You're doing even baking?
[8:08] Speaker 1: Of course she is.
[8:09] Speaker 5: I mean, Donna Hay's accessories have always been superior.
[8:12] Speaker 6: I've got a muffin pan. For more details, head to greenpan.com.au.
[8:17] Speaker 6: And my kids love the book you sent them, Kids
[8:19] Speaker 6: Baking by Donna Hay. The Queen is on the air
[8:21] Speaker 6: with us this morning.
[8:22] Speaker 1: Yes, Queen.
[8:23] Speaker 5: It's good to see you, Donna.
[8:24] Speaker 3: Yes, Queen.
[8:24] Speaker 1: Thanks.
[8:25] Speaker 6: Thanks for coming in.
[8:25] Speaker 5: Hey, Donna Hay. Jace, Lauren and Clint. Wake up feeling good. Jace,
[8:32] Speaker 5: Lauren and Clint.
[8:32] Speaker 4: Follow them on the socials.
