[0:00] Speaker 1: Need to be covered a really in cut stuff.
[0:03] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, okay, we'll after I thought I thought.
[0:11] Speaker 1: We're going to pull that out mat Yeah, you know,
[0:13] Speaker 1: just unbelievable.
[0:15] Speaker 2: Congratulations really thanks me, Like it's probably doing yourself a
[0:22] Speaker 2: disservice to say I've been pleasantly surprised. But has there
[0:26] Speaker 2: been a little bit? I mean, look, going there to
[0:28] Speaker 2: win the all four trophies is unbelievable.
[0:31] Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, I think you're always going with hope and
[0:33] Speaker 1: the first year we sort of want to be the
[0:35] Speaker 1: top four club, and then we achieved that, So I
[0:37] Speaker 1: think we probably achieved in that first year, and then
[0:40] Speaker 1: because we got there, you want to set the bar higher.
[0:43] Speaker 1: So we set the bar high the second year and
[0:46] Speaker 1: made a Grand Final, and then off the back of that,
[0:48] Speaker 1: it's a bit more expectation then because you're expected to win,
[0:53] Speaker 1: you expected to be in the big games, and we
[0:55] Speaker 1: expect a lot of ourselves. So we went out and
[0:58] Speaker 1: got jar where Hargreaves and and Minky McLaurin too. Genuinely, yeah,
[1:05] Speaker 1: standing he saved his best the last and I think
[1:08] Speaker 1: people sort of criticize the wrong word but probably saying
[1:11] Speaker 1: that he wasn't as good on the field the start
[1:14] Speaker 1: of the year, but what they don't see is what
[1:15] Speaker 1: he did away from the field, and he makes others better.
[1:18] Speaker 3: It is a great leader in amongst the club.
[1:20] Speaker 1: Yeahs outstanding, Like you can't put a value on some
[1:24] Speaker 1: of the stuff that he gave us. And you know,
[1:26] Speaker 1: we sort of did a mini hand over to the
[1:27] Speaker 1: boys last week because it's like you don't have those
[1:30] Speaker 1: blokes anymore. They've you know, they've helped, I suppose educate
[1:34] Speaker 1: and teach you what when it looks like and leadership
[1:36] Speaker 1: looks like and they've sort of taken over.
[1:38] Speaker 3: How much easier is it?
[1:39] Speaker 4: I feel like years gone past from NRL players go
[1:42] Speaker 4: to the Super League, they probably go to some of
[1:44] Speaker 4: the bigger clubs like Leeds Warrington that since you guys
[1:47] Speaker 4: have won, we are.
[1:54] Speaker 3: How much easier. Since you want to attract, like you know,
[1:57] Speaker 3: people from the n RAL wanted to come over.
[1:59] Speaker 1: To whole, it's difficult even over there because holes sort
[2:02] Speaker 1: of isolated. So you know, you've got some hellns we're
[2:04] Speaker 1: going to lead there all together, and then Leeds and
[2:07] Speaker 1: Huddersfield and areas like that. So a lot of the time,
[2:11] Speaker 1: if you know, players over there go to another team.
[2:14] Speaker 1: They're going locally, so they don't they don't want to
[2:16] Speaker 1: move too much too often, so it's difficult like over there,
[2:20] Speaker 1: but then to get players from overseas. Look, I think
[2:24] Speaker 1: they're going to the bigger club straight away. So it
[2:26] Speaker 1: certainly helpedlesus, Like there's no doubt when in that or
[2:29] Speaker 1: making the final and the Challenge Cut the first year
[2:32] Speaker 1: and then being in the in the Grand Final the
[2:33] Speaker 1: second year certainly helped us.
[2:35] Speaker 4: Attracks like Jared, is there a bit of like, is
[2:38] Speaker 4: there ever a bit of hostility between the English players
[2:41] Speaker 4: and Elsie players coming over?
[2:42] Speaker 3: I imagine at different times they would.
[2:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, any player that comes over, you've got to earn
[2:47] Speaker 1: their respect, even because like Jared, like the boys had
[2:51] Speaker 1: these skits that they do and the staff and they'll
[2:53] Speaker 1: pay me out the most. I was like, but he
[2:58] Speaker 1: may he loved it, and yeah, so they've got to
[3:00] Speaker 1: earn your you know, it doesn't matter what you're doing.
[3:02] Speaker 1: I was, You've got to earn their respect, that's for sure.
[3:05] Speaker 2: I think the first Challenge Cup I ever saw when
[3:06] Speaker 2: he was seventy nine or eighty with whole k ol
[3:09] Speaker 2: Kingston rovers played in Johnny Dory.
[3:11] Speaker 3: He was there.
[3:12] Speaker 2: Roger Mill was the captain to give people an insight, like,
[3:15] Speaker 2: you know, we look at great rivalries and regular wet.
[3:18] Speaker 2: First we talked about Roosters and the Bunis. But you
[3:20] Speaker 2: know there's lots of great right, but whole Kingston rovers
[3:24] Speaker 2: Hull f C is like historically one of the most brutal.
[3:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's on steroids, mate, Like I was part of
[3:29] Speaker 1: seat House and Roosters, which is huge. But it doesn't
[3:32] Speaker 1: matter where you're sitting on the ladder, it doesn't matter. Yeah,
[3:36] Speaker 1: what you've come to year before. It's it's absolutely massive
[3:38] Speaker 1: to them, like the Device family literally really, yeah, it's cool.
[3:41] Speaker 1: What sort of family division? Well, I go to hold
[3:50] Speaker 1: It's it's crazy, but it's an unrugby part of Yeah,
[3:53] Speaker 1: it's crazy, mate, I heard mate.
[3:56] Speaker 2: So you when when there's bit of the broncos you
[3:58] Speaker 2: didn't play the hunt around you played the hollow seas ground.
[4:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, just leave anything. Yeah we did with their dressing
[4:05] Speaker 1: rooms are different columnies. It was pretty cool because our owner,
[4:10] Speaker 1: he's gone through a lot in terms of what he's
[4:12] Speaker 1: caught from the other side. Like even I didn't know this,
[4:15] Speaker 1: but they had won I think the Challenge Cup and
[4:17] Speaker 1: they flew like a helicopper or something over because we're
[4:21] Speaker 1: playing for a game, possibly for relegation, so they did
[4:24] Speaker 1: it deliberately. So things like that, you know, over the years,
[4:27] Speaker 1: and it doesn't matter who we played. I'll get the
[4:29] Speaker 1: phone call that week. He lets me do the thing,
[4:31] Speaker 1: but it's about being Yeah. So look, I think for him,
[4:35] Speaker 1: there's no doubt we wanted to get another, say, thirteen
[4:37] Speaker 1: thousand bums on seats at k but there was a
[4:40] Speaker 1: little bit more.
[4:41] Speaker 4: We're going to ask the broncers. But we've spoke talking
[4:44] Speaker 4: to Brian Carney last night. You've shown us our footage
[4:46] Speaker 4: of Eurasia a little respect. That's the theme song for
[4:50] Speaker 4: you guys.
[4:50] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you got to it's for for the game,
[4:54] Speaker 1: so pretty much before kickoff comes on and they start
[4:57] Speaker 1: singing it, well kickoffs on. It's unbelievable. I don't have to.
[5:01] Speaker 3: We're trying to ring his manager last night, getting the city.
[5:06] Speaker 3: We're ringing it.
[5:07] Speaker 1: Brian says, I'll get him on the party.
[5:08] Speaker 3: I'll get into the pot. He broke. I think Brian
[5:10] Speaker 3: ranging about fifty times and never picked up one.
[5:13] Speaker 2: Having having said that, Brian did we did give Brian
[5:16] Speaker 2: to bed in.
[5:19] Speaker 1: What I do want to leave that for?
[5:22] Speaker 2: It was like, you know, it's funny when you come
[5:24] Speaker 2: to value, so it's almost like that that opponent that
[5:26] Speaker 2: you go right, okay, they're not going to get us
[5:29] Speaker 2: this time.
[5:29] Speaker 1: We're where it's going to happen. This Jesus first night,
[5:33] Speaker 1: it's got me again.
[5:34] Speaker 3: Yeah, this is what he been spotted. We spoke to
[5:37] Speaker 3: on the phone earlier.
[5:38] Speaker 4: I hadn't got out of bed yet and he was
[5:40] Speaker 4: in bed quite early when we wheeled him in the room.
[5:43] Speaker 3: That was just before midnight.
[5:48] Speaker 1: It's a good form today after this, and he brought
[5:51] Speaker 1: he were to this up.
[5:52] Speaker 3: We went to Old Red the Country by Blake Shelton's
[5:54] Speaker 3: country Bar. He's got a good one and he couldn't.
[5:57] Speaker 1: Come back with just the girliest cowboy hats. With four
[6:00] Speaker 1: of them.
[6:01] Speaker 4: We made us all wear them and it was so
[6:03] Speaker 4: embarrassing the whole night whearing these are what about.
[6:06] Speaker 1: The Old Red?
[6:07] Speaker 4: They had the dragons by storm.
[6:11] Speaker 2: They converted the Yeah, the converted the pubble the bar
[6:15] Speaker 2: into like a dragon's clubhouse.
[6:17] Speaker 3: All the tiglights every screen. They had dragons highlights which
[6:20] Speaker 3: went on for about forty five seconds.
[6:22] Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it was funny podcasts come out.
[6:27] Speaker 4: You want to be out of down by there, He cares, Yeah,
[6:31] Speaker 4: it's funny because like, respectfully, they haven't had a whole
[6:34] Speaker 4: heap blights the last couple of years. They were playing
[6:37] Speaker 4: some of the Dragons tighlights come up and Brett Morris
[6:39] Speaker 4: was in it and I said it blind.
[6:40] Speaker 1: I said, Brett Morris, like it.
[6:44] Speaker 3: Was like you could see the static on some of
[6:46] Speaker 3: the footage of the.
[6:47] Speaker 1: What about the poster they had up on the wall.
[6:49] Speaker 1: So there's gutha.
[6:51] Speaker 2: Someone Dan Atkinson, Dan Acketts, and there's someone in the
[6:55] Speaker 2: middle standing there.
[6:57] Speaker 1: We're all going but who is that? No one knows.
[7:00] Speaker 1: It might have been under twenties players.
[7:02] Speaker 3: It's like a young, really young Dagon's player.
[7:04] Speaker 1: But yeah, Miller.
[7:10] Speaker 2: Willy for you with your coaching, right, like when when
[7:13] Speaker 2: when you went over, like being a head coach with
[7:16] Speaker 2: all the pressure, there's no doubt whethy like your knowledge
[7:19] Speaker 2: of the game tactically second and none.
[7:21] Speaker 1: But of course it's such a good bloke, really good blake.
[7:24] Speaker 2: People like we're sort of going, okay, he going to
[7:27] Speaker 2: be able to be ruthless enough.
[7:29] Speaker 1: How what's enabled you to do that? Will he? Well?
[7:33] Speaker 1: I think honesty. Like I think I'm the sort of
[7:35] Speaker 1: black always when others treat me the way I want
[7:38] Speaker 1: to treat them. So when I played, I hated coaches
[7:40] Speaker 1: that weren't honest. They weren't straight. At the point with me,
[7:43] Speaker 1: nothing bugs me more than the lies and people the
[7:45] Speaker 1: bookshit basically so sorry. So I think I think for me, mate,
[7:55] Speaker 1: he's just yeah, being honest with the players. And if
[7:57] Speaker 1: I see something el Wayne Bennet talks about like if
[8:00] Speaker 1: you you walk past something and you don't say, that's
[8:04] Speaker 1: the standards accept top thing. So for me, I live
[8:07] Speaker 1: by that really, Like, if I see something, I'll say it.
[8:09] Speaker 1: How hard is it really like to get there?
[8:10] Speaker 2: You might have an experienced bloke or someone that's a
[8:13] Speaker 2: little prickly you know that you're going right, I've got
[8:15] Speaker 2: to get up there and I've got to go there
[8:16] Speaker 2: and have a yain doing.
[8:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, it's difficult. I mean, dropping players or moving players on.
[8:21] Speaker 1: They're all different conversations because you don't you know, you
[8:24] Speaker 1: genuinely care about the blow. But it's all part of
[8:26] Speaker 1: the job, I think, you know, Like growing up, I
[8:29] Speaker 1: was always you know, I have to be around people
[8:31] Speaker 1: all the time and you know, if people didn't like
[8:33] Speaker 1: me as a kid, I was like, I didn't take
[8:37] Speaker 1: that too well, you know, and I thought, well, when
[8:39] Speaker 1: I get in the coaching, it's going to be the
[8:40] Speaker 1: complete opposite. Unfortunately on the way, like you're coaching sixteens
[8:45] Speaker 1: and eighteens and you're coaching makes parents and but yeah,
[8:50] Speaker 1: so your mates are playing, the kids are playing, so
[8:54] Speaker 1: you know, not picking them or whatever. You have hard conversations.
[8:57] Speaker 1: But I think it was good grounding for me to
[8:59] Speaker 1: be able to to do that, you know. And then
[9:02] Speaker 1: and then as you get through the grades, nothing changes
[9:04] Speaker 1: because you're going by the same principles, what you believe in. Well,
[9:07] Speaker 1: these boys are not some coaching Stu Bullyers.
[9:10] Speaker 4: Yeah, it is funny that the politics of like, yeah,
[9:14] Speaker 4: probably underestimate the factor because of NURL parents.
[9:17] Speaker 3: Rarely ever you ever see him get involved because everyone's
[9:19] Speaker 3: an adult.
[9:20] Speaker 4: But just how much parents can drive behind the scenes,
[9:23] Speaker 4: even just driving like you might do work with a
[9:26] Speaker 4: kid on like you know, you just this is going
[9:28] Speaker 4: to be your mentality, Like you know, you just got
[9:29] Speaker 4: to keep working hard, YadA, YadA, YadA. But and then
[9:31] Speaker 4: the parents get in their head about he's wrong. You
[9:35] Speaker 4: to be doing this to this and then I mean
[9:36] Speaker 4: the next day and all the work you did with
[9:38] Speaker 4: them the day before and getting their head around you know,
[9:40] Speaker 4: why they might not be in the team completely strips
[9:42] Speaker 4: it all that.
[9:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, I mean they're looking through what they love
[9:46] Speaker 1: their kids and all that. But at the end of
[9:48] Speaker 1: the day, like, yeah, you got a job to do,
[9:51] Speaker 1: and that's that's be honest with it, you know, and
[9:53] Speaker 1: like you say, mate, you might get into a certain thing,
[9:55] Speaker 1: you might they might be getting, yeah, getting somewhere with
[9:58] Speaker 1: them and then their parents in the well in the
[10:00] Speaker 1: scenes of telling them something else and you lose all that.
[10:03] Speaker 1: But look, I think that's probably been the that was
[10:05] Speaker 1: the best grounding for me, were dealing with difficult parents
[10:08] Speaker 1: along the way, because you know, I think the players
[10:11] Speaker 1: now are probably easy to deal with. To be honest,
[10:13] Speaker 1: most of the guys they did want honesty, and as
[10:17] Speaker 1: I say, it's not easy having those conversations, but you know,
[10:20] Speaker 1: it's all part of it. We're talking.
[10:22] Speaker 2: I was talking to someone about it. They said, were
[10:24] Speaker 2: this whole KR where to Kingston Rover sit? As far
[10:27] Speaker 2: as if they're an NRL club, I likened it to
[10:29] Speaker 2: a little bit probably the Tigers, and that mean like,
[10:33] Speaker 2: but they are a club is great support.
[10:35] Speaker 1: They're always trying to punch above their weight.
[10:37] Speaker 2: Little bit like Willie when you went there, can you
[10:40] Speaker 2: identify because what you've done is unprecedented, Like we were
[10:44] Speaker 2: talking last night, Brian, they'll talk about you in one
[10:46] Speaker 2: hundred years time.
[10:47] Speaker 1: There what was can you identify? Turning point?
[10:51] Speaker 3: Willy?
[10:56] Speaker 1: I think what we did at the start was probably
[10:59] Speaker 1: the two before I come over. So they used to
[11:02] Speaker 1: like just say kick off, they'd move the ball and
[11:04] Speaker 1: played too. They paid the notes for on play two
[11:06] Speaker 1: usually they're on you know. So for me, that was
[11:08] Speaker 1: a feel good team, you know, and if they didn't work,
[11:11] Speaker 1: that didn't work, then they struggled. So I looked at
[11:14] Speaker 1: them and went, Okay, they like to attack them. That's
[11:17] Speaker 1: that's the that's their go to where For me, you know,
[11:19] Speaker 1: I learned you know, I was coaching on the Madge
[11:23] Speaker 1: in the juniors and taught me a great little about
[11:25] Speaker 1: vertical alignment and defense first sort of focus or mentality,
[11:29] Speaker 1: and initially I probably didn't understand it, but my second
[11:32] Speaker 1: year of coaching, I.
[11:33] Speaker 2: Really did vertical alignment. I mean everything is just tapped into.
[11:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, so top top down. So I was coaching the
[11:40] Speaker 1: sixteens and basically everything was streamlined, so what the calls were,
[11:44] Speaker 1: defense systems, everything was basically he wanted it from top
[11:48] Speaker 1: top to the bottom. And you need to have that
[11:50] Speaker 1: because if his sixteen's going to eighteen's, he then needs
[11:52] Speaker 1: to understand the calls and systems and.
[11:55] Speaker 4: Eighteen and twenty sounds sounds like simple when you say it,
[11:58] Speaker 4: but the amount of clubs that aren't don't do that,
[12:01] Speaker 4: it's insane because there's obviously different coaches at sixteens, eighteens,
[12:04] Speaker 4: twenties all the way to Reserve, God and NURL. Sometimes
[12:07] Speaker 4: there are clubs where sixteens has different calls for this
[12:10] Speaker 4: or different mentalities and defense eighteen is clearly different, like
[12:14] Speaker 4: literally every grade is different. So to make it an
[12:17] Speaker 4: easy transition for kids to go between each grade, particularly
[12:20] Speaker 4: people going from Reserve go to NRL, it's got to
[12:23] Speaker 4: be aul streamlined.
[12:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, So one team might sixteens might be sliding,
[12:27] Speaker 1: for example, when you're passive, and then if you go
[12:29] Speaker 1: the eight ens and they're jamming or takes that sixteen
[12:31] Speaker 1: year old kid to go to that next level like
[12:33] Speaker 1: another whole year to work out how to jam or
[12:36] Speaker 1: protect inside sholder as they say. So I think that
[12:38] Speaker 1: was the first thing, so you know when we're over there.
[12:41] Speaker 1: When I went over the initially it was about being
[12:44] Speaker 1: a team that when they turned up the Craven Park
[12:46] Speaker 1: similar to you guys at Knights, mate, you knew you
[12:47] Speaker 1: go you'd go to Newcastle. It was an awful afternoon.
[12:50] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, you have to play your very
[12:52] Speaker 1: best to be in them. But on the flip side,
[12:54] Speaker 1: when you guys would go down the Sydney, you're still
[12:56] Speaker 1: the same sort of team. So I wanted us to
[12:59] Speaker 1: be that, you know, that team where it didn't matter
[13:01] Speaker 1: where we played, that we had a mentality work hard
[13:04] Speaker 1: for each other and defend and it put us in
[13:07] Speaker 1: a strong position. But difficult to say. I think probably
[13:11] Speaker 1: at the end of the first year. You know, we
[13:12] Speaker 1: had a lot of guys in that first year that
[13:15] Speaker 1: really good blokes, but we didn't have enough can't use
[13:23] Speaker 1: so yeah, we just didn't have that mongrel mate, so
[13:25] Speaker 1: we had to go get some some players and Tyro
[13:28] Speaker 1: maybe he came in. Yeah, he's been awesome mate. You know,
[13:33] Speaker 1: he's a different character in terms of his personality, but
[13:36] Speaker 1: I love him. I love it what he brings to
[13:38] Speaker 1: the team and uh and what he what he brings
[13:40] Speaker 1: others around him. But we bought those two in and
[13:42] Speaker 1: as I said, a couple of years later we bought
[13:45] Speaker 1: Jared and Mickey two proper mongols, which which added to
[13:49] Speaker 1: which I wanted to do.
[13:50] Speaker 2: Micky, Micky has been good for your mate. Yeah, what
[13:53] Speaker 2: do you think will he is?
[13:55] Speaker 1: He?
[13:55] Speaker 2: I reckon behind the scenes, he's probably getting tapped from
[13:58] Speaker 2: mena real clubs he was.
[14:01] Speaker 1: He just signed a new deal now, so yeah, he's
[14:03] Speaker 1: got he's got a baby, so yeah, so pretty much
[14:07] Speaker 1: when he made the decision that he wants to stay here,
[14:09] Speaker 1: he couldn't live away from his little boy. So there's
[14:12] Speaker 1: a lot of gravies only twenty four. Yeah, you know,
[14:15] Speaker 1: he's a runner, he's you know, he probably didn't play
[14:18] Speaker 1: the levels that he wanted to in the Ashes, certainly
[14:21] Speaker 1: played role in the Grand finally got me in the
[14:22] Speaker 1: match in that Grand Final, and I thought he went
[14:25] Speaker 1: pretty well the other night. So you know, it's just
[14:28] Speaker 1: about doing it now. Every week that you would you
[14:31] Speaker 1: ever coach England, I'd have the conversations. Yeah, I love
[14:37] Speaker 1: being a head coach. I was in Australia and Kangaroos.
[14:40] Speaker 1: I was assistant there. I absolutely loved it and I
[14:42] Speaker 1: learnt so much. And obviously I'm from Australia, but I
[14:46] Speaker 1: do love head coaching. I think, you know I can help.
[14:49] Speaker 1: I'm proud to involved in the Super League and passionate
[14:51] Speaker 1: about helping the game over there, and I feel like
[14:53] Speaker 1: I add something.
[14:55] Speaker 3: We got strong ties to England. Everyone played over there.
[14:58] Speaker 3: Like now you're obviously coaching over that.
[14:59] Speaker 4: Would you enjoy doing that sort of short stint style
[15:02] Speaker 4: coaching of representative?
[15:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, so there's a walk up at the end of
[15:05] Speaker 1: the year, so we haven't haven't spoken to it and yet,
[15:08] Speaker 1: but i'd certainly, as I said, have conversations to see
[15:11] Speaker 1: see where it went.
[15:12] Speaker 3: How'd you like the Aussie tour?
[15:14] Speaker 1: Loved just to see the spine. The way the spine
[15:18] Speaker 1: connected was absolutely unbelievable. But for me it was Dylan Edwoods,
[15:22] Speaker 1: Mitch Moses, it was Brayley and young Ethan strange from
[15:27] Speaker 1: from Camberra. Those guys didn't play and they the way
[15:30] Speaker 1: they prepared and help those others, it was just unbelievable
[15:33] Speaker 1: to see. As a coach, you don't have to do
[15:35] Speaker 1: something too much coaching. When you're involved with the best,
[15:38] Speaker 1: you know, it's not like boys go to your extras
[15:40] Speaker 1: or they went and did their their edge things, and
[15:42] Speaker 1: middles went and did their middles and then off the
[15:44] Speaker 1: back of that, the spine connected and they're all talking
[15:47] Speaker 1: around how they're going to attack that week. And as
[15:50] Speaker 1: I said, it was a lot of it was driven
[15:51] Speaker 1: by guys that weren't playing what clearing like tactically and
[15:56] Speaker 1: when he's training and stuff like, how'd you find him? Mate? Unbelievables,
[15:59] Speaker 1: no flute that he's you know who he is. He's
[16:02] Speaker 1: literally hear about it all the time on the first
[16:04] Speaker 1: in the field, the last off, but he's the first
[16:06] Speaker 1: and the last and everything. So we're on the bus
[16:09] Speaker 1: and it might have been just a recovery, he's last
[16:11] Speaker 1: in the recovery or you know where it's prober had beforehand,
[16:14] Speaker 1: he's last to leave that room. He's just, Yeah, he's unbelievable.
[16:19] Speaker 1: And just I really really liked the Penri boys. They've
[16:24] Speaker 1: won full premierships. The most humble blokes that are going
[16:27] Speaker 1: to meet and you wouldn't know that they've won all
[16:29] Speaker 1: those premierships are just you.
[16:30] Speaker 3: Know, terrific.
[16:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, great for the great leader. I really liked
[16:36] Speaker 1: how we after training, so you get around at us
[16:39] Speaker 1: sort of individuals, around what they thought of the session,
[16:41] Speaker 1: then how we can be better, and that's true leadership.
[16:44] Speaker 1: He'd finished, he'd finished with what he thought. But yeah,
[16:47] Speaker 1: all terrific blokes, you know, the Goes boys. I've got
[16:50] Speaker 1: some swagger about it, like containy stags and yeah, but
[16:52] Speaker 1: he's they're all characters Like josh Ad Carr was unbelievable.
[16:57] Speaker 1: We had like one and a half hour bus trips
[16:59] Speaker 1: and they just did hear him the whole time and
[17:02] Speaker 1: oh wow, doesn't play with him.
[17:08] Speaker 3: And I'll tell you there's a few blokes in that scouat.
[17:10] Speaker 3: I didn't have an ostrich monster as well. Did you
[17:14] Speaker 3: have any one of ones with him?
[17:16] Speaker 4: Oh?
[17:16] Speaker 1: Mate? When I talk about erratic, yeah, I thought I
[17:19] Speaker 1: had a little bit of something about another one made
[17:25] Speaker 1: I love him.
[17:27] Speaker 2: I was talking imagine about Ryce Walsh and he was
[17:29] Speaker 2: saying when he first got there, it was like, yeah,
[17:31] Speaker 2: it's very you.
[17:33] Speaker 1: You couldn't find two blokes for polar opposites.
[17:36] Speaker 2: And he was saying he found it like almost not unnerving,
[17:40] Speaker 2: but just so odd, like the recee main of it,
[17:43] Speaker 2: and then he said halfway through the year he so
[17:44] Speaker 2: I just learned to embrace it, he said.
[17:46] Speaker 3: They went on, they played the.
[17:47] Speaker 2: Knights, and they went into camp in Newcastle and they
[17:50] Speaker 2: went around the country, so Newcastle, Cessnok and Maitland, he said, Maitland.
[17:54] Speaker 1: The whole stadium was packed and it was.
[17:57] Speaker 2: Like mainly two natche girls, you know, like, yeah, Rich Welsh,
[18:00] Speaker 2: how'd you find it?
[18:01] Speaker 1: Like how'd you find that? How'd you find him? So
[18:04] Speaker 1: Nith was the last one in and out of all
[18:06] Speaker 1: the sessions and stuff like that, but it was the
[18:08] Speaker 1: last one to leave any autograph signing. After one of
[18:11] Speaker 1: the games, we went out of beer and we're together,
[18:13] Speaker 1: and so we're upstairs and everyone's downstairs and they're all
[18:17] Speaker 1: obviously wanting him. He's asking him to throw the phone
[18:20] Speaker 1: up and have photos like that's you know, for me,
[18:22] Speaker 1: that was pretty cool, Like just to see a guy
[18:25] Speaker 1: that he could have easy turned his back and away
[18:27] Speaker 1: from everyone else, but he wanted to. He knew he
[18:30] Speaker 1: had a responsibility there to because I'm there to see
[18:33] Speaker 1: him talk thing. So I thought that was pretty cool.
[18:35] Speaker 2: There was this book written by an English fellow and
[18:38] Speaker 2: it's called eighty two eighty six, the two tours that
[18:42] Speaker 2: changed rugby forever, and it's any means by.
[18:45] Speaker 1: That rugby and rugby league, and it.
[18:47] Speaker 2: Was on eighty six of course, the Invincibles and the Unbeatables,
[18:52] Speaker 2: those Kangaroo tours, and reading the one about eighty two,
[18:55] Speaker 2: it says that wherever they went it was like sports
[18:57] Speaker 2: version of Beatlemania, like the Kangaroo How this was the
[19:01] Speaker 2: first Ashes series for such a long time. How was
[19:03] Speaker 2: it over there? How the boys received.
[19:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, outstanding they So England probably got a knock because
[19:10] Speaker 1: they sort of isolated themselves a little bit. That was
[19:12] Speaker 1: probably something I heard through media and where the Australian
[19:16] Speaker 1: guys were the opposite, Like there was a lot of visits.
[19:20] Speaker 1: There's a lot of community visit, school visits, as I said,
[19:23] Speaker 1: like there was opening imitations for training and one way
[19:26] Speaker 1: we go to a pub where it wasn't but they
[19:29] Speaker 1: still had a responsibility or felt that of responsibility to
[19:31] Speaker 1: be able to give back to them, So they loved that.
[19:35] Speaker 1: I think by the end of the tour, you know,
[19:38] Speaker 1: the Aussie boys probably, yeah, the English guys fans were
[19:45] Speaker 1: sort of supporting the Aus year purely because of what
[19:48] Speaker 1: what they gave back.
[19:50] Speaker 4: Having been in camp with some of those boys, don't
[19:53] Speaker 4: name names or anything, but where any of the boys
[19:55] Speaker 4: sort of quizzing on sort of super League and potentially
[19:59] Speaker 4: about going over a little bit.
[20:02] Speaker 1: It was, Yeah, the thing I really loved about him. Yeah,
[20:05] Speaker 1: they they wanted to know, like obviously here they're playing
[20:08] Speaker 1: against and all that sort of stuff. Yeah, curious about
[20:11] Speaker 1: the game over here or you know in England itself. Yeah,
[20:16] Speaker 1: no one sort of said I've got plans to come
[20:18] Speaker 1: over or whatever, like, but it was more interested. And
[20:20] Speaker 1: that's what I love. I'm a footyessed about it and
[20:24] Speaker 1: to be part of you know, guys that are obsessed
[20:27] Speaker 1: as well as to say guys like Nathan Money, you know, yeah,
[20:31] Speaker 1: soon he's on the field or he's in a video
[20:33] Speaker 1: session or you're talking footy like you know, it's.
[20:37] Speaker 3: He's one of the great, like people see him as
[20:39] Speaker 3: like American and that.
[20:40] Speaker 4: But like even we were in Adelaide, I live golf
[20:43] Speaker 4: together last week and even after a few beers, like
[20:46] Speaker 4: as soon as you get everyone kind of ventures into
[20:48] Speaker 4: what they want to dn M about.
[20:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, Monster DNM is about footy.
[20:51] Speaker 4: All just talks about shape talk like he's he doesn't
[20:55] Speaker 4: give off, but he's one of the great rugby league thinkers.
[20:57] Speaker 3: He's always thinking about.
[20:59] Speaker 2: And the first night we got weam plenty of rock
[21:01] Speaker 2: into us. And I got up the next day and
[21:03] Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I was like probably a little
[21:05] Speaker 2: bit like I'm like like now in middle aged and
[21:08] Speaker 2: Vegas don't really go together. But anyway, uh, he got up.
[21:12] Speaker 2: He got up in the morning like only a couple
[21:14] Speaker 2: of ours sleep got up about you know, five six went.
[21:16] Speaker 1: For five k round in a five k bike ride.
[21:19] Speaker 1: Like It's just that's why I love being with them.
[21:22] Speaker 1: Their elite. You know that when it was time to
[21:23] Speaker 1: had fun, they had fun. You know, they enjoyed themselves.
[21:25] Speaker 1: But when it was time to work, they worked. And
[21:28] Speaker 1: Greece Wats was very similar. He I didn't realize how
[21:30] Speaker 1: much he loves the game, wants to be better. He
[21:33] Speaker 1: asked a lot of questions and yeah, it was as
[21:36] Speaker 1: I said, like, it was so cool. Coop said before
[21:38] Speaker 1: that you've had a real link with England.
[21:40] Speaker 2: And for people who don't know, like Willie, when you
[21:42] Speaker 2: were coming through the grades, how everyone was talking at
[21:44] Speaker 2: this young guy coming through and then out of nowhere,
[21:47] Speaker 2: you went to England, but simply went Gateshead, who at
[21:50] Speaker 2: the time the new franchise at Shane Richard and set
[21:52] Speaker 2: up Why would why do you.
[21:53] Speaker 1: Go first of the said Bryan for his first tries
[21:56] Speaker 1: and that was it. He actually caught it. Yeah, well
[22:03] Speaker 1: wait to be honest. So so what happened the first
[22:05] Speaker 1: year that I went in and played, played one or
[22:08] Speaker 1: two games, and you know I was I was linked
[22:11] Speaker 1: to the next Peter Stirling and that was back page
[22:13] Speaker 1: or front page of the paper and put a lot
[22:17] Speaker 1: a lot of pressure on me a young age, only
[22:19] Speaker 1: eight at the time, and yeah, I was never never
[22:22] Speaker 1: going to be the next Stirlough wall you know it was.
[22:24] Speaker 1: It was obviously a big statement at the time, but
[22:26] Speaker 1: it was from my coach, you know, and someone that
[22:29] Speaker 1: cared and loved loved me, and which was Craig Common.
[22:31] Speaker 1: And I'm thankful to Teger for for everything he's done
[22:35] Speaker 1: for me. So this is not around him, It's more
[22:37] Speaker 1: just around the I suppose that the pressure that goes
[22:40] Speaker 1: with playing first grade in the NFL. So I that
[22:43] Speaker 1: first year and then it was a mad Monday I
[22:47] Speaker 1: was with We had a mad Monday from Ruber and
[22:51] Speaker 1: enough so I jumped on the train I was with anyway,
[22:54] Speaker 1: yeah Newcastle all plays actually did yeah, And so I
[22:59] Speaker 1: went for a walk. It was my girlfriend at the time,
[23:02] Speaker 1: and because I got a phone call about going to
[23:05] Speaker 1: going to Kate Sead anyway, so we just went for
[23:07] Speaker 1: a walk and then she she said, yeah, I'm happy,
[23:11] Speaker 1: let's do it. So it was like too young sort
[23:13] Speaker 1: of kids, just let's uh, let's go and see where
[23:17] Speaker 1: the world world's about. So anyway, I went over there
[23:19] Speaker 1: and it was pretty much to get away from the
[23:22] Speaker 1: pressures of over the NRL. So I'll get over there,
[23:25] Speaker 1: get off the plane, jet legs, anything, and I'll get
[23:28] Speaker 1: there and there's there's the media there and I say, okay,
[23:30] Speaker 1: will you So you're the next pair of Stell get
[23:33] Speaker 1: me back over here, get away from it. So anyway,
[23:38] Speaker 1: that chased me and then to be able to tell
[23:40] Speaker 1: you the story, I was actually trying to get back.
[23:44] Speaker 1: And so we're putting these highlights video together. Brian help
[23:51] Speaker 1: me with me. So we went to have the volume up.
[23:54] Speaker 1: So I thought, we'll turn the volume up, and the
[23:56] Speaker 1: Blake said, oh, next pair of Stelli. Not nothing like.
[24:04] Speaker 3: Landlord.
[24:05] Speaker 1: We we lived together for a while.
[24:08] Speaker 3: Because he had a question, but he wanted to said,
[24:12] Speaker 3: can you ask Willie Wayne. He used to send me
[24:14] Speaker 3: to bed early.
[24:16] Speaker 1: I wanted to study foot he hated rugby legs. I
[24:19] Speaker 1: was just up studying footy.
[24:27] Speaker 3: This morning. It was living with Carney.
[24:31] Speaker 1: It was very funny as you can imagine because at
[24:35] Speaker 1: the time he wasn't playing at the start, so he
[24:38] Speaker 1: was out all the time. So he uh, usually hear
[24:40] Speaker 1: his stories and lovely stories and and then maybe he's
[24:44] Speaker 1: his journey like he ended up playing and as you know,
[24:46] Speaker 1: like he's his story is unbelievab from Gayley Football. Now
[24:49] Speaker 1: we got picked up to playing with you guys, Delli
[24:52] Speaker 1: and when you're the incredible incredible Yeah.
[24:56] Speaker 2: Gates now that club folded and people Gates head. It
[25:00] Speaker 2: sits near Newcastle ponm Tyane up there. Did you go
[25:04] Speaker 2: to Wigan after that draft or did you have a
[25:05] Speaker 2: stitch somewhere?
[25:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, So Shane Richardson, who was our owner, they ended up.
[25:11] Speaker 1: It was a Friday afternoon got us in so we
[25:15] Speaker 1: just got back for pre season. He basically said to everyone,
[25:18] Speaker 1: you said, we're packing up, We're going a hole. And
[25:19] Speaker 1: then on the Saturday I got a call from Wigan
[25:22] Speaker 1: and then said we're going to We're going to and
[25:24] Speaker 1: so I said, so you can go to Hoold Look,
[25:28] Speaker 1: I love Gateshead. Played with a lot of Australian players there.
[25:31] Speaker 1: Kerara Wallers was there, Danny Lee, some some old guys.
[25:35] Speaker 1: Obviously you're good players that we had a good team,
[25:39] Speaker 1: but Wigan, Wigan was It was incredible. It was incredible
[25:43] Speaker 1: because I played with probably the best leader that I
[25:46] Speaker 1: played with or seenen was Andy Farrell and you know, mate,
[25:50] Speaker 1: like takes a while to earn his respect. And I
[25:54] Speaker 1: lived on the bar the farm where the farm was
[25:56] Speaker 1: so well there's me. Nie Farrell moved in, which I
[25:59] Speaker 1: was app you about, and then Chris Radlinsky, Gary Conley,
[26:02] Speaker 1: Tony Mestrov and I was like the young little kid,
[26:05] Speaker 1: so my man foot head, so we knocking on Feather's door.
[26:08] Speaker 1: It's going to come in. Ins got this not like
[26:10] Speaker 1: little son. I was sitting in the lounge.
[26:12] Speaker 4: Questions Listeny he's is he Wigan CEO?
[26:18] Speaker 3: Now?
[26:19] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[26:19] Speaker 3: Yeah yeah? And of course mas he mainly yeah as well.
[26:23] Speaker 1: He was Greyhounds hockey. Amazing.
[26:27] Speaker 2: He got some starts to be after your job next?
[26:30] Speaker 1: What like your next job?
[26:32] Speaker 2: Will you and you know with that head because you're
[26:34] Speaker 2: looking to go back to back with the whole KR.
[26:36] Speaker 2: But you'll you're being spoken about now was the bloke
[26:40] Speaker 2: that's most likely to get its housekeeping?
[26:46] Speaker 1: Brian?
[26:46] Speaker 3: Keep the MIC's rolling. Just hello, oh sorry fresh style. No,
[26:55] Speaker 3: we're all good fresh towels. He's some more ground. He's
[27:00] Speaker 3: looking at me. It looks like past.
[27:07] Speaker 2: It's so will Yeah, you're being spoken about now. Is
[27:15] Speaker 2: the next play like the next job that comes up.
[27:18] Speaker 2: You're at the top of the list. It's probably working out.
[27:21] Speaker 2: Sometimes it's the jobs you don't take in it.
[27:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, n RL comped coach is hard, hard to get.
[27:28] Speaker 1: So look, I'd love to do it in some stage,
[27:31] Speaker 1: no doubt. But I love what I'm doing now. You know,
[27:33] Speaker 1: I always wanted to win a camp with KR, but
[27:37] Speaker 1: I had to win a camp, you know, we had
[27:39] Speaker 1: to win a camp. But as a coach for me
[27:41] Speaker 1: personally to go back to the NRL to be taken serious,
[27:44] Speaker 1: you know, that was what I knew I had to do,
[27:47] Speaker 1: so me coming over to the Super League. Yes, I
[27:51] Speaker 1: wanted to obviously try and coach in an RL, but
[27:52] Speaker 1: it was it was just a coach because I love coaching. Yeah,
[27:56] Speaker 1: and then you know, obviously winning the Grand Finals helped
[27:59] Speaker 1: them probably get a little bit of just around.
[28:03] Speaker 4: You're supposed you spoke about like winning a come to
[28:06] Speaker 4: get that sort of respect and I suppose eyeballs.
[28:09] Speaker 3: On you for it.
[28:10] Speaker 4: But last week beating the Broncos and that World Club Challenge,
[28:13] Speaker 4: that that must be like, that must be just as
[28:17] Speaker 4: equally huge in getting sort of those eyeballs from the
[28:19] Speaker 4: NRL as well.
[28:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think for as a team is probably probably
[28:22] Speaker 1: bigger because you think about the Bronx like and the
[28:25] Speaker 1: type of players, salary cap like the salary episode different.
[28:28] Speaker 1: You know, what is this difference? It's a lot. Yeah,
[28:31] Speaker 1: so we're like only I think it's two and a
[28:32] Speaker 1: half thousand places, but it's probably half well yeah, yeah, yeah,
[28:37] Speaker 1: it's probably half of what the NL is. So look,
[28:39] Speaker 1: I think just how that game went and how we
[28:41] Speaker 1: won it, that was like, speaking of the players, that
[28:43] Speaker 1: was the most special for them. You know, they said
[28:45] Speaker 1: it was bigger than the Grand from the atmosphere fill
[28:47] Speaker 1: you know, electricly grandphon the Sorry, the atmosphere and the
[28:50] Speaker 1: Grand Final was electric, but this was this was different. Yeah,
[28:54] Speaker 1: because there's a lot of whole there's a couple of
[28:56] Speaker 1: whole FC guys playing with us now and it's just
[28:59] Speaker 1: little things around that they got moved on from FC
[29:01] Speaker 1: and they're playing at that stadium, so it just meant
[29:04] Speaker 1: a little bit more.
[29:05] Speaker 2: Well, there's there's a famous book out I think in
[29:07] Speaker 2: terms it on a movie is called When Munster Boat
[29:09] Speaker 2: the All Blacks, When the touring All Blacks side went
[29:11] Speaker 2: and the province team of Munster in Ireland boot them.
[29:15] Speaker 2: I say, okay, I was sat one hundred years time
[29:18] Speaker 2: that if people still going eight, I remember when this
[29:20] Speaker 2: great Bronco sign come to Craven Cottage and we actually
[29:23] Speaker 2: will Hull and we're not to mar and boot them
[29:27] Speaker 2: with the players were they was where any you just
[29:31] Speaker 2: sense any intimidation going into the game.
[29:34] Speaker 1: Will No, I didn't because we didn't want to have
[29:36] Speaker 1: that approach, like we don't usually name our team, so
[29:40] Speaker 1: URL using the name of their team so we don't
[29:42] Speaker 1: have to name our team for like an hour beforehand,
[29:43] Speaker 1: so we're using that name in twenty one. But I
[29:46] Speaker 1: think the approach that we wanted to take was this
[29:47] Speaker 1: is us, you know who we are and agress Yeah, yeah,
[29:50] Speaker 1: we're proud of that. And let's go like there's no
[29:52] Speaker 1: there's no surprises, so they could have been a surprise.
[29:55] Speaker 1: Jess Little was sick during the week, so he possibly
[29:58] Speaker 1: was going to go to the bench, but that he started.
[30:01] Speaker 1: But that was the mindset and the players. You know,
[30:04] Speaker 1: there's a lot of players in that in our team
[30:06] Speaker 1: that either probably didn't have the careers in the NL
[30:09] Speaker 1: that a few regrets, so this was way that they
[30:12] Speaker 1: can you know personally, Yeah, absolutely, There's then there's guys
[30:16] Speaker 1: that have had really good careers that do I still
[30:18] Speaker 1: have what it takes just to play? It's only one
[30:20] Speaker 1: off game, but you know, to prove myself against a
[30:23] Speaker 1: team like the Bronx, And then guys in England. Am
[30:26] Speaker 1: I good enough to go over there? Is it something
[30:28] Speaker 1: I could do down the track or I'm never going
[30:30] Speaker 1: to go there, but can I mix it with the best?
[30:32] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[30:32] Speaker 1: So there was there was so much personal reason. We
[30:35] Speaker 1: spoke around that, like there's so many different reasons personally,
[30:38] Speaker 1: but collectively it was like you say, I think I
[30:41] Speaker 1: can't remember exactly the year it was, but okay, I
[30:44] Speaker 1: beat Queensland, which was unbelow ever knew that until I
[30:47] Speaker 1: arrived at the club. They beat Queensland eighty nine.
[30:51] Speaker 3: I think we're talking about last night eighties.
[30:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, it might have been eighty five or something, but
[30:56] Speaker 1: I just that just blows me away.
[30:59] Speaker 3: Queensland points the Queens beat went through.
[31:02] Speaker 4: I think they beat Wiggan and someone else after and
[31:03] Speaker 4: then they tried to do a rematch with Hull to
[31:05] Speaker 4: get one and.
[31:07] Speaker 3: I think a whole set.
[31:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, we might might do the same against the Broncos.
[31:12] Speaker 1: That's it. I was going to ask you about will He.
[31:16] Speaker 2: Well, I mean we talked about football, right will He
[31:18] Speaker 2: And they say, you know, if you're not totally focused
[31:21] Speaker 2: and you're not on, anyone can beat you. What was
[31:23] Speaker 2: amazing the week before you beat the Broncos you get
[31:26] Speaker 2: beat by York City And I was sitting there at
[31:29] Speaker 2: work and watching it, and when I saw it, really
[31:31] Speaker 2: I thought, will He's obviously rested all the players, but
[31:34] Speaker 2: you didn't just Even't that a lesson where your focus
[31:37] Speaker 2: has split? That must have been we're going to head
[31:38] Speaker 2: of the Bronx.
[31:39] Speaker 1: Because we didn't want to do that, because it was literally,
[31:42] Speaker 1: like I know, cliche and rugby league. It's true, you
[31:44] Speaker 1: can't look too far ahead, and we made sure that
[31:47] Speaker 1: we didn't look too far. It was probably we weren't
[31:49] Speaker 1: asked like, but we got to a twelve point lead.
[31:53] Speaker 1: Mike he lewis at a moment of madness. You know,
[31:56] Speaker 1: he's he's owned that. But collectively we didn't do it normally,
[32:00] Speaker 1: which is we were pulled tighter. Things are tough, we
[32:03] Speaker 1: were pulled tighter, you know, but we sort of pulled apart.
[32:05] Speaker 1: It was just how we got beat. That was the
[32:07] Speaker 1: worst thing for me because native respect, we probably shouldn't
[32:11] Speaker 1: have got people by your because I'm talking about the
[32:13] Speaker 1: salary cap with the Bronx and us. Our salary cap
[32:16] Speaker 1: compared to their salary caps different as well. You know,
[32:18] Speaker 1: a lot of teams in the Super League now are
[32:20] Speaker 1: spending cap where York wouldn't be spinning cap. So what
[32:23] Speaker 1: we did make we took a lot of what they
[32:25] Speaker 1: did against us into the Bronx. Let's not fear them.
[32:28] Speaker 1: We respect them, but let's not fear them. Let's go
[32:31] Speaker 1: after it. Who knows where it takes you.
[32:33] Speaker 4: And you know, in a weird way, it like probably
[32:36] Speaker 4: gave you guys more belief of like if they can
[32:38] Speaker 4: upset us on our day, Like what's to say that
[32:41] Speaker 4: Broncos can turn a little bit complacent and we can
[32:43] Speaker 4: do the same to that.
[32:44] Speaker 1: Yeah, that was our mentality when you were at to
[32:46] Speaker 1: start well and watching the game back Broncos actually started well,
[32:50] Speaker 1: like they had us on the back foot. We got
[32:52] Speaker 1: through that period and then and obviously then we went
[32:55] Speaker 1: you know, back to back with a couple of tries,
[32:57] Speaker 1: a couple of kick tries.
[32:58] Speaker 4: We nervous up in the coaching box because it's sort
[33:00] Speaker 4: of got very tight towards the end of the game Broncrest.
[33:02] Speaker 1: We got on a roll, very nervous when it got
[33:05] Speaker 1: to thirty to twenty. It was like thirteen minutes ago
[33:07] Speaker 1: that the way that they'd come back. Then I was like,
[33:11] Speaker 1: we're going to have to really really fight. And then
[33:13] Speaker 1: they've always did like they did well to hang on
[33:15] Speaker 1: because they just threw everything at us, everything at us,
[33:18] Speaker 1: and they did well to hang on.
[33:20] Speaker 3: Well, you've been a player and you've been a coach.
[33:22] Speaker 4: What's more Like you spoke about the pressure of being
[33:25] Speaker 4: called the next Peter Sterling, is it harder the pressure
[33:28] Speaker 4: of being a coach, like when you're up in that
[33:30] Speaker 4: coaching box on game day compared to being a player.
[33:32] Speaker 1: Look, coach is not about you the coach is about
[33:34] Speaker 1: the team, and I love Growing up, I've always like,
[33:38] Speaker 1: I love helping people. That's been while I got into coaching.
[33:40] Speaker 1: You know, that's probably the main reason why I got
[33:43] Speaker 1: into coaching, because I genuinely like helping a mate I he
[33:45] Speaker 1: was in trouble. I helped, you know, well, anyone that
[33:47] Speaker 1: asked me for something growing up, I'd always make sure
[33:49] Speaker 1: that I get done for them. So you sort of
[33:52] Speaker 1: us that in the coaching. You know, for me, coach
[33:54] Speaker 1: is not about you. It's about getting a team prepared,
[33:57] Speaker 1: getting as tight as possible, working hard for each other.
[34:00] Speaker 1: Pretty much is over to them. Like if these guys
[34:02] Speaker 1: don't want to go play, we don't win. For they've
[34:07] Speaker 1: won the four you know they're wonderful, but you've got
[34:10] Speaker 1: to own it as a coach when you don't win,
[34:11] Speaker 1: because you look at your prep, what you did wrong
[34:13] Speaker 1: and all that sort of stuff. So I'm you know,
[34:17] Speaker 1: I always wanted to get into coaching, but I was
[34:20] Speaker 1: I had to make sure that I was ready, and
[34:21] Speaker 1: you know, people saw about you're ready. You know, you've
[34:24] Speaker 1: got to love it and be obsessed about it, which
[34:27] Speaker 1: which I am. But at the end of the day,
[34:29] Speaker 1: I think it's it's more about the players. They're the
[34:31] Speaker 1: ones that do it. You know, ess usually do it.
[34:33] Speaker 1: So I find coaching easy. I've learned a lot. I
[34:36] Speaker 1: mean naturally, when you're a young kid, I probably wasn't
[34:38] Speaker 1: ready for that spotlight and you know you're young, you
[34:41] Speaker 1: carry on your drink and or whatever, and so now like,
[34:44] Speaker 1: I know what works for me, what makes me feel
[34:45] Speaker 1: good in my life, and I pretty much stick to that.
[34:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, we're talking to Brian. When we did the podcast
[34:51] Speaker 2: here I saw the gibberjabble. We had a couple of
[34:53] Speaker 2: clarity talking about coming to the comp which is going
[34:57] Speaker 2: to be the most amazing, intriguing expansion, not just in
[35:02] Speaker 2: Raguda League that I've seen in sport. Would you coach
[35:05] Speaker 2: P and G if they come knocking a look.
[35:07] Speaker 1: Certainly have the conversation. It's a unique job. And look,
[35:12] Speaker 1: I think I just spoke before around I love bringing
[35:15] Speaker 1: a team together. I love people talking about being a
[35:18] Speaker 1: family environment. I genuinely love that because I think that
[35:20] Speaker 1: that helps win. So there's a lot involved, though the
[35:26] Speaker 1: main one for me is my family. Yeah. Yeah, that's
[35:28] Speaker 1: a big one, massive, you know, so you know, my
[35:32] Speaker 1: kids have got to be on board. My wife's got
[35:34] Speaker 1: to be on board. But you know, we to find
[35:36] Speaker 1: out if there are conversations to be had, you know,
[35:39] Speaker 1: what's their vision? What do they see this franchise we're
[35:41] Speaker 1: doing because rugby league's fun when you win, and it's
[35:47] Speaker 1: what you're doing for you know, So you want to
[35:49] Speaker 1: put together, you know, a roster that you believe well,
[35:52] Speaker 1: you know we you know, P and G believe that
[35:55] Speaker 1: they can win. So look, if there's a conversation to
[35:58] Speaker 1: be had, I will they think, okay, be someone when
[36:00] Speaker 1: to have a chat to? I would, you know, But
[36:04] Speaker 1: there's so many different things to know, we'll get through.
[36:06] Speaker 2: The Other one, too, is just you're all living together.
[36:09] Speaker 2: It's like almost like you're living on top of each other.
[36:11] Speaker 2: It would be like you'd actually have basically no off
[36:16] Speaker 2: switch from coaching, you know what I mean.
[36:17] Speaker 1: There's a problem.
[36:18] Speaker 2: You know, you're going to have situations with families and
[36:20] Speaker 2: stuff and you're almost going to look after all that
[36:22] Speaker 2: as well.
[36:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, so it was in the bubble, the bubble. Yeah,
[36:26] Speaker 1: so I've got a really good sort of idea what
[36:29] Speaker 1: that was like where this is going to be Tom's
[36:32] Speaker 1: five hundred. Because you're living together every day, I've been clearing,
[36:37] Speaker 1: I've been watching Penrith. My wife said me at the time, said,
[36:41] Speaker 1: you guys know when the comp then in the commers,
[36:44] Speaker 1: So why is that? I just can't believe how you know,
[36:46] Speaker 1: connected they are and family and all, that's what he's
[36:49] Speaker 1: going to be needed.
[36:50] Speaker 4: Yeah, to be successful that people talk about having like
[36:53] Speaker 4: a no dickhead policy and bringing good people in the
[36:55] Speaker 4: club from administration all the plain group that PNG that
[37:00] Speaker 4: that has to be their number one priority. You have
[37:03] Speaker 4: one cancerrous person in that organization where people living, it
[37:06] Speaker 4: will just feed.
[37:07] Speaker 1: Through the whole COM's all. It's all people and then
[37:09] Speaker 1: but it's not just the players it is, it's going
[37:12] Speaker 1: to be partners. And how invested the partners are. Yeah,
[37:15] Speaker 1: like you can't have yeah, your clicks and and of
[37:18] Speaker 1: course you're going to have you know, humans, disagreements and whatever.
[37:22] Speaker 1: But it's going to you need to find time as well, downtime.
[37:26] Speaker 1: But your hundred percent right, It's it's all around bringing
[37:29] Speaker 1: in people that truly love that family environment, connection and
[37:33] Speaker 1: they they don't want too much drama in their life
[37:35] Speaker 1: because if you want that.
[37:38] Speaker 2: My dad loves watching actually loves unbelievable those but it's incredible.
[37:45] Speaker 3: He's been applying, trying to go on.
[37:48] Speaker 2: I was shattered the other night because it's on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
[37:50] Speaker 2: I got my days mixed up and I'm sitting there
[37:52] Speaker 2: and said, what's going on. I realized it was a Thursday. Anyway,
[37:57] Speaker 2: it's been fantastic for Vagas Plans.
[38:02] Speaker 1: Behave yourself, get two points and then we'll see what
[38:04] Speaker 1: happens from you boys. Actually stay away from Carnie. You
[38:08] Speaker 1: come in there and stop shooting the corner
