[0:47] Speaker 2: I went good now the girl and Joey and I too.
[0:52] Speaker 3: We're filming in the backyard of the childhood Heart. I'm
[0:55] Speaker 3: sure there's plenty of memories. Dad, Did you ever play
[0:57] Speaker 3: any sport in the backyard?
[0:58] Speaker 2: Mate? Didn't we?
[0:59] Speaker 4: What?
[0:59] Speaker 2: We used to make everything?
[1:01] Speaker 5: And I don't remember coming home from school all the
[1:03] Speaker 5: time we put the trampoline up against the fence. I
[1:06] Speaker 5: used to put a circle there and mate with a
[1:10] Speaker 5: soccer ball. Bang, try to be used to pretend I
[1:12] Speaker 5: was Ossi Ardalis and Glenn Hoddle or sorry Chris Waddle.
[1:17] Speaker 5: They played for They played for Tottenham Howkspur back in
[1:19] Speaker 5: the day in the early eighties. Ossiardalist was an Argentinian
[1:23] Speaker 5: and he was playing for Tottenham at the time of
[1:25] Speaker 5: the Falklands War, which is particularly testy for him. But
[1:27] Speaker 5: he was a great player and we played played rugby
[1:31] Speaker 5: league like you look here, how narrow that end?
[1:34] Speaker 2: And no one did. Joey can put it on a dime.
[1:36] Speaker 5: He used to get out of here and do torpedo
[1:38] Speaker 5: bombs and he only had like three minutes three meters
[1:41] Speaker 5: of working.
[1:42] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[1:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, and you guys catch on the other side.
[1:44] Speaker 5: Yeah, and then I would put them up and they'd
[1:47] Speaker 5: end up and obviously practice.
[1:49] Speaker 1: Uh.
[1:50] Speaker 3: Were there any weird things that happened at the back here, gla,
[1:53] Speaker 3: I'm sure you caught the boys doing some sort of
[1:54] Speaker 3: stuff out in the backyard.
[1:56] Speaker 4: Well, they punched a hole in the side of the
[1:58] Speaker 4: garage that was there.
[1:59] Speaker 2: That was a glory, that was that was.
[2:06] Speaker 4: Try the ball sh.
[2:11] Speaker 5: I'll tell you what, man, Seriously, the job you do
[2:14] Speaker 5: in the backyard with the guards.
[2:17] Speaker 2: It is ununbelievable.
[2:22] Speaker 1: You didn't ye.
[2:26] Speaker 3: Who does the hedges, because those hedges have always been
[2:28] Speaker 3: immaculately done. Like I've always had great respect for your hedges.
[2:34] Speaker 4: Well, one day I think was it Gordy put my head, run,
[2:46] Speaker 4: run as fast as you can to me, he said, playing.
[2:49] Speaker 2: State, and Gordy just went jammed flesh Fletcher. Yeah in
[2:55] Speaker 2: the hedge. Girls like my head tear the other things
[3:00] Speaker 2: this area.
[3:01] Speaker 5: It's amazing. Like when you talk about fast food restaurants
[3:06] Speaker 5: and the impact on you know, country towns and there, like,
[3:10] Speaker 5: do you remember the first he was nineteen eighty or
[3:12] Speaker 5: eighty one, The first ever fast food restaurant was KFC
[3:16] Speaker 5: lined up one hundred meters down a penny and.
[3:20] Speaker 4: Got a pizza hut And.
[3:22] Speaker 5: Then like the Holy Grail. The last one to come
[3:25] Speaker 5: to CES was McDonald's. And bugger me, there's two in town?
[3:28] Speaker 2: Is one just there?
[3:29] Speaker 1: Aren't we lucky? Yeah? You are this population eighty thousands.
[3:37] Speaker 3: Do you go to the Golden Marshes because you can
[3:40] Speaker 3: get the stone at.
[3:41] Speaker 2: It gave a pizza men there, you guess yeah? Do
[3:44] Speaker 2: you like pizza?
[3:46] Speaker 1: Like takeaway? We ever really have takeaway. My likes the
[3:50] Speaker 1: chips Kentucky right to.
[3:56] Speaker 4: Practice.
[4:00] Speaker 1: Actually one that likes flu.
[4:01] Speaker 2: That pup.
[4:03] Speaker 1: I used to go down and take him down to
[4:04] Speaker 1: the lady's pool up Berry with a swim and that
[4:08] Speaker 1: fish and chip shop behind the merry where the at
[4:10] Speaker 1: all was a gem, wasn't it. So I used to
[4:13] Speaker 1: stop there and I get the Hamburger jacket. Have a
[4:16] Speaker 1: Pluto pup. You have tomato sauce already his lips. Trisha
[4:21] Speaker 1: used to say, gas, don't give it. I said, I
[4:23] Speaker 1: didn't buy flew that I didn't.
[4:25] Speaker 2: And we've got a history Pluo pups in this family.
[4:27] Speaker 5: Remember the time he took me to the service of
[4:29] Speaker 5: the kid and black.
[4:33] Speaker 1: And a pair of white jy that the circus was
[4:36] Speaker 1: over at the old football ground. Anyway, it was a
[4:39] Speaker 1: Friday night. I said, come on, we'll go out of
[4:41] Speaker 1: the circus. Mother was working that one of the piss
[4:46] Speaker 1: so I took him out the side of the tent
[4:48] Speaker 1: and he had a look. Had this other bloke come out?
[4:52] Speaker 1: Oh no, that's right. He wanted up and the other
[4:54] Speaker 1: bloke was giving his kid a piss. So we've got
[4:57] Speaker 1: even Pluto puppe and has covered his horse as we're
[5:00] Speaker 1: would pass. That's got the Blueto pup. He's dragged across.
[5:07] Speaker 1: When we got back into Blake walked and he did
[5:09] Speaker 1: nothing about it. The whole crowd of rough.
[5:16] Speaker 2: You just said that you took Jack down to the
[5:18] Speaker 2: ladies pool. Yeah, what was there a ladies one? They
[5:22] Speaker 2: used to the only ladies.
[5:24] Speaker 5: There used to be Back in the day there was
[5:26] Speaker 5: the men's pavilion at Merriweather and it was the ladies pavilion,
[5:28] Speaker 5: and it was there's a there's a break right out,
[5:30] Speaker 5: Frank called ladies. But yeah, but it was wasn't like
[5:33] Speaker 5: there was a lot of that sort of Yeah, you
[5:37] Speaker 5: know male here, female there, including the poops, the pubs, clubs,
[5:42] Speaker 5: the female pubs, female, the ladies, and they could.
[5:46] Speaker 4: Only go into that like a parlor. Yeah, women would
[5:49] Speaker 4: be able to go in there, into the bar, into
[5:51] Speaker 4: the public bar.
[5:52] Speaker 5: When when some people call it the eighties, I call
[5:55] Speaker 5: it the good old that's as are.
[6:00] Speaker 3: And could the men go into the female room, Yeah, yeah,
[6:03] Speaker 3: we could do that.
[6:05] Speaker 5: Okay, now I see we're access all the women weren't
[6:09] Speaker 5: allowed to spat.
[6:11] Speaker 4: Didn't what was going on?
[6:13] Speaker 3: And you were telling me earlier the steps that right
[6:15] Speaker 3: behind us in the backyard, Joey had an incident dropping
[6:18] Speaker 3: a kid or something.
[6:19] Speaker 4: Yeah, he his mate boy Knug. He was carrying him
[6:23] Speaker 4: down the stairs in a biman's carry, dropped him on
[6:26] Speaker 4: these bush rocks we.
[6:28] Speaker 2: Have on his head and he had like snow white hair,
[6:32] Speaker 2: and it was fear to say he was wearing us.
[6:34] Speaker 2: George Cap.
[6:38] Speaker 4: Wasn't allowed to come around and play much after that,
[6:40] Speaker 4: well anymore.
[6:42] Speaker 3: Him was Joey getting into a lot of trouble with
[6:44] Speaker 3: kids that sort of age.
[6:45] Speaker 4: No, not really he did some did.
[6:49] Speaker 2: Either of them fight aggress it?
[6:52] Speaker 3: Well, apart from each other, we know that. But did
[6:55] Speaker 3: they ever fight, like getting brawls with kids?
[6:58] Speaker 4: I think up at the bay, Matt and some of
[7:00] Speaker 4: the boys used to stirgo up with those boys are Yeah,
[7:04] Speaker 4: there's always something.
[7:05] Speaker 2: The one at the back here when the neighbor bumped
[7:09] Speaker 2: you about, she was worried about Andrew.
[7:11] Speaker 4: Something, missus Calder. She said that when I was out,
[7:15] Speaker 4: he had all these kids laying in the back lane
[7:18] Speaker 4: and he was jumping them on his back.
[7:21] Speaker 1: They made the rap up.
[7:24] Speaker 2: He was quite persuasive. Still has he been up here recently?
[7:31] Speaker 4: No, not recently. He well he came up here and
[7:34] Speaker 4: we were away. He came up and he did stayed here.
[7:37] Speaker 4: He stayed here, but.
[7:37] Speaker 1: You got a little bit full of where we got home.
[7:40] Speaker 1: All the the what's the lattice work was all smashed.
[7:44] Speaker 1: I think you might have had a spill going up
[7:46] Speaker 1: the steps.
[7:47] Speaker 2: It's good to see that he fixed. It.
[7:50] Speaker 5: Wasn't anything like when you used to leave him here
[7:51] Speaker 5: on weekends when you sculpt the bike. Wasn't pubic hair
[7:54] Speaker 5: right through you. We left you here when you come
[7:58] Speaker 5: over the garbene was full of kids.
[8:02] Speaker 4: Anything you look at, this garbage had porcelain dolls, which
[8:09] Speaker 4: he loved. And when I looked one of the dolls,
[8:12] Speaker 4: legs was pushed back and there was a stubby held.
[8:16] Speaker 2: I was going to ask him. I was wondering, what
[8:17] Speaker 2: you're going to do.
[8:20] Speaker 3: One of the dolls legs pushed up Dad's first girl friend.
[8:24] Speaker 4: Didn't you steal a goat and tied up to the clothesline.
[8:27] Speaker 2: We were at a party.
[8:28] Speaker 5: We're at a place once and we're going to be
[8:31] Speaker 5: a united high school.
[8:33] Speaker 2: And I really shouldn't say that. We were drinking.
[8:35] Speaker 5: And anyway, me and I made Peaky, who's no longer
[8:38] Speaker 5: with this peaky. We were staying at this property and
[8:41] Speaker 5: these people on the property next door. We looked and
[8:43] Speaker 5: that he kept goats, So we went and stole a
[8:45] Speaker 5: pair of the underpants ladies underpants place were staying, took
[8:50] Speaker 5: him and then jumped the fence and put them on
[8:51] Speaker 5: a goat.
[8:55] Speaker 2: And then the next morning here the arm next to going.
[8:59] Speaker 2: Well the folks, some sick bastards put Dorothy.
[9:07] Speaker 3: Have you guys, because someone sent me a picture coming
[9:10] Speaker 3: up to your winery the other day where you work Peterson's,
[9:13] Speaker 3: and they took some pictures with you and they sent
[9:15] Speaker 3: it to me Instagram.
[9:16] Speaker 6: A couple of our podcast listeners, I wanted to ask
[9:19] Speaker 6: you guys from the first time he guys come on
[9:21] Speaker 6: the podcast, because a lot of things you guys said
[9:23] Speaker 6: went viral, talking about Sexnof's greatest drinker, Herbie Pearson, things
[9:27] Speaker 6: like that some stories on.
[9:28] Speaker 3: These two have people come up to you guys asking
[9:31] Speaker 3: him about that sort of stuff.
[9:32] Speaker 4: Yeah, especially about Herby really.
[9:34] Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah, probably don know so Yeah, Maddie Joe's dad. Yeah,
[9:40] Speaker 1: we see the podcast was great. Was it is that
[9:43] Speaker 1: true about Herbie? I said every word of it.
[9:46] Speaker 5: We're talking about things like like bygone ears. I remember
[9:50] Speaker 5: being like years to go. When you're coaching the football side,
[9:53] Speaker 5: you go around Pudens at the Late Athel Pudins, your
[9:57] Speaker 5: great mates pub of course, an Athols, Billy Billy's dad
[10:01] Speaker 5: and you go around.
[10:02] Speaker 2: There all the time.
[10:03] Speaker 5: I remember Mum used to ring and goys gary there
[10:06] Speaker 5: and I thought, I go, oh no, Gaile, he's not there,
[10:08] Speaker 5: and you knew it so used to send me around.
[10:10] Speaker 5: I remember going in there sometimes and it was it
[10:12] Speaker 5: was used to have a regular gas and a couple
[10:15] Speaker 5: of a couple of plays. You're coaching, we're having head
[10:19] Speaker 5: butt competitions in the pub and people were watching the spectators.
[10:22] Speaker 1: Jimmy Walsh from Gloucester, very old from Gloucester. They were
[10:26] Speaker 1: good mates. They played together up there and we bought
[10:30] Speaker 1: them together and they brought them down here. They were mad,
[10:35] Speaker 1: absolutely bad ahead but very you know that at the
[10:39] Speaker 1: Leech Club, the big timber rail around the bar used
[10:42] Speaker 1: to be there.
[10:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was head button that one night. Really how
[10:46] Speaker 2: many times are you that gas? How many times? Yeah?
[10:50] Speaker 1: Just but went over pully away. Come on, mate, settled down.
[10:55] Speaker 2: When you say head button? Is it like that video
[10:57] Speaker 2: the video of that old West Magpies. When Donaka snatter
[11:00] Speaker 2: in there the head button.
[11:03] Speaker 5: You spell the Sea Boys for Dad's side and they
[11:07] Speaker 5: get into it in the sheds full the game, grabbing
[11:09] Speaker 5: wrestling blokes into it.
[11:10] Speaker 1: You didn't have to separate them too much again.
[11:14] Speaker 4: Yeah, remember at warrange Out's eighteenth birthday two of the
[11:19] Speaker 4: boys had a fight and who was the toughest.
[11:22] Speaker 1: Phil Griff, Yeah, fight, This is the toughest.
[11:29] Speaker 2: Mate, always a point of conjecture. Even here's the town going.
[11:36] Speaker 4: It's quite the town.
[11:40] Speaker 1: I went the wools yesterday. You can fully effect the
[11:43] Speaker 1: Wars had on the town. You could have parked anywhere
[11:47] Speaker 1: you like, and when you went into the there was
[11:51] Speaker 1: really anyone in their shop. It was amazing. It was
[11:54] Speaker 1: like a ghoes going up because you.
[11:57] Speaker 3: Were saying that when I rang here the other day
[11:59] Speaker 3: that these prices and the fuel prices even it's put
[12:02] Speaker 3: the prices of bread up as well.
[12:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, bloody bread Saturday, I've got a lad for bread
[12:06] Speaker 1: eight dollars five dollars twenty for a lad for bread.
[12:10] Speaker 1: I went back on Tuesday five dollars laighty. They put
[12:14] Speaker 1: it up sixty cents.
[12:15] Speaker 2: Jesus cats.
[12:17] Speaker 1: Yesterday I went to get a bottle of milk. They
[12:20] Speaker 1: put it up a dollar used bottle milk.
[12:23] Speaker 2: This excuse is any reason? You just said to me
[12:26] Speaker 2: you didn't you don't drink milk. I got it for you.
[12:31] Speaker 4: I was working on Easter Saturday, flat out, phone rings gas. Yeah, guys,
[12:37] Speaker 4: you're busy, might flat out. Do you know what. I've
[12:40] Speaker 4: just come around to Peden's and they've put the beer
[12:42] Speaker 4: up fifty cents around me to tell me, yes, fifty lot,
[12:48] Speaker 4: when you have them will come.
[12:52] Speaker 5: I remember when I first started drinking again, talking about
[12:55] Speaker 5: the good old days, but like been seventy and eighty
[12:58] Speaker 5: and going around to the black opal held hotel or
[13:00] Speaker 5: Pedans and it was like ninety cents of schooner.
[13:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'll never forget the first.
[13:05] Speaker 5: Time it went tipped over to a dollar, and people
[13:07] Speaker 5: like outrage, we'll never drink again.
[13:10] Speaker 2: Of course that lasted about fifteen minutes.
[13:13] Speaker 4: Not much else to do.
[13:14] Speaker 1: They like the many. But when I started drinking, probably
[13:17] Speaker 1: seven and eight MIDI was ten cents and the schooner
[13:20] Speaker 1: was fifteen cents. We were married in seventy one, of
[13:25] Speaker 1: course you were born that year. We'd go out when
[13:28] Speaker 1: we were twenty dollars. We'd go to the Chinese and
[13:31] Speaker 1: have a food. All the teammates and their wives girlfriends
[13:35] Speaker 1: have a food and they'd go to Millfill for the
[13:38] Speaker 1: dance on a Sunday night.
[13:39] Speaker 2: We spend the twenty dollars.
[13:41] Speaker 3: What's the go with every country town they always have
[13:44] Speaker 3: a good Chinese restaurant.
[13:47] Speaker 2: Yeah, what is that true? The old fashioned Chinese?
[13:51] Speaker 1: Yeah, probably cheap. And to set up in the country
[13:53] Speaker 1: of what it is to set up in the city.
[13:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, the low family and they came out of Low.
[14:00] Speaker 4: I saw missus Lowe in Maitland one day and she
[14:04] Speaker 4: had this. I went in to buy some ribbons at
[14:06] Speaker 4: this store and she was behind the counter and she said,
[14:09] Speaker 4: because she'd be nineteen out, she said, my son went
[14:12] Speaker 4: to school with your.
[14:13] Speaker 2: Son, good fellow Dickwa. And you know, I let you
[14:16] Speaker 2: people get there. With towns, particularly country towns, get a
[14:19] Speaker 2: bad rap.
[14:20] Speaker 5: Sometimes people go, oh, you know the people there, they're
[14:22] Speaker 5: very insulow and.
[14:23] Speaker 2: Jennophobic and all that. It's just it's just complete bullshit.
[14:26] Speaker 5: I remember that when we went to the school across
[14:29] Speaker 5: the primary schools and pats it like. I remember there
[14:34] Speaker 5: was a Vietnamese family that came over as immigrants and
[14:39] Speaker 5: they went to the school. Like three of the kids
[14:41] Speaker 5: went to school, the most popular kids in the school. Tongue,
[14:44] Speaker 5: who was the oldest one. He won all the athletic events,
[14:46] Speaker 5: and everyone he got up to it, except the crowd
[14:48] Speaker 5: went all the kids went wild, sort of flies in
[14:51] Speaker 5: the face.
[14:51] Speaker 2: A lot of the bullshit the people push around. Where's
[14:54] Speaker 2: tongue now? Tongue, I don't know. I don't know. And
[14:57] Speaker 2: what was he winning? What like sprint? I jump? Very athletic. Yeah,
[15:02] Speaker 2: you played rugby league. He played in the wing. Tongue
[15:06] Speaker 2: for all these things. I don't think really tongue like
[15:09] Speaker 2: the physical part of rugbul league.
[15:12] Speaker 5: From last thing I checked, and I think Vietnam. Vietnam
[15:15] Speaker 5: is going to be the twentieth team in the.
[15:18] Speaker 2: Guys.
[15:18] Speaker 3: You were telling us before you got the podiatress after this, Yeah.
[15:22] Speaker 2: That's right, because Nan said, you have some of the
[15:24] Speaker 2: ugliest turnouts she's ever scene. She seems I'm not.
[15:26] Speaker 1: Going to show you.
[15:28] Speaker 2: No, no, I won't get you to take.
[15:29] Speaker 1: Stretcher the leg over here.
[15:34] Speaker 2: So they gave a cooper or he doesn't do it
[15:38] Speaker 2: with me anymore?
[15:40] Speaker 4: Can to a pods because last time I tried to
[15:43] Speaker 4: cut his turnouts and cut his toe and he didn't
[15:48] Speaker 4: carry on. I couldn't believe it.
[15:49] Speaker 1: What about poor girl used to cut athles fingernails when
[15:53] Speaker 1: he was in hospital and she can't there to be
[15:57] Speaker 1: finger off?
[15:57] Speaker 2: What Jesus a little bit?
[16:01] Speaker 4: But every time I say, I said, I'll cut your fingernails, mate,
[16:05] Speaker 4: the it's all right, don't worry again.
[16:10] Speaker 5: Talking about like the town though, like the city, I
[16:13] Speaker 5: think it's a bypractor when you're younger, because when I
[16:15] Speaker 5: was younger and lived here, I always felt like the
[16:17] Speaker 5: main street and everything was all action going on. Now
[16:19] Speaker 5: I don't know if it's a byprac being down a
[16:21] Speaker 5: Newcastle then Sydney, but I come here and.
[16:25] Speaker 2: It's so peaceful and quiet. Has there always been this way?
[16:27] Speaker 4: Have I?
[16:28] Speaker 1: Well? When we were first married, I remember I had
[16:32] Speaker 1: a mate lived over stock and the ass was over
[16:34] Speaker 1: a barbecue on a Sunday. Everyone went to church Sunday
[16:38] Speaker 1: borders that everybody went, had a barbecue or a bake dinner,
[16:42] Speaker 1: and there was there was no traffic. I remember we
[16:47] Speaker 1: put you with the preyer. We pushed her over to
[16:49] Speaker 1: stop and come back late afternoon five or six o'clock.
[16:53] Speaker 4: We used to have tennis nights on Saturday night the kids,
[16:56] Speaker 4: that's right. But after the football we go back to
[16:59] Speaker 4: Peter's and the kids would play outside, played footy. Matt
[17:02] Speaker 4: fell in a rose garden one day, covered in scratch.
[17:07] Speaker 2: As happened to make sister.
[17:09] Speaker 4: Said, when I went to pick him up from school,
[17:11] Speaker 4: she said, oh, I saw that's legs. And he told
[17:14] Speaker 4: me that if he was a pedance and selling the
[17:17] Speaker 4: rose garden, I said, he wasn't drinking. The sister playing football.
[17:22] Speaker 1: Well, wasn't she? Yeah, sister, she was, wasn't she? She?
[17:28] Speaker 2: She was a real tough hole stick and you and
[17:31] Speaker 2: second class. She loved the rugby league that much.
[17:34] Speaker 5: Used to watch so where the convent used to see
[17:36] Speaker 5: Cooper and they used to they used to live there, all.
[17:39] Speaker 2: The nuns over it used to overlook.
[17:42] Speaker 5: The rugby league field just over here, back in the
[17:44] Speaker 5: old Assess Sports ground. So she used to go up
[17:47] Speaker 5: every day and watch Dad's side play and literally kneel
[17:50] Speaker 5: and pray as the game.
[17:51] Speaker 2: Was taking.
[17:54] Speaker 1: Started trying she gets the rosary birds out.
[17:57] Speaker 3: It seems kind of weird for assist or a nun
[18:00] Speaker 3: to be to bean league.
[18:03] Speaker 2: That was the nature of the town. Everyone everyone supported it.
[18:06] Speaker 4: Yeah, you came to the football ground, you couldn't get in.
[18:09] Speaker 4: So we're standing.
[18:10] Speaker 1: Before where we lived. Here, we're surrounded by tubs and
[18:15] Speaker 1: everyone was carl Miders. Ninety percent of the blokes were Caliders.
[18:19] Speaker 1: So Sunday Morton, they'd get to the pub at ten o'clock.
[18:22] Speaker 1: United Service on the corner was the only pub that
[18:25] Speaker 1: had a two across the road, so they'd get all
[18:29] Speaker 1: the blokes, put their bets on, fill up and they'd
[18:33] Speaker 1: be all there for the third grade at twelve o'clock. Yeah,
[18:36] Speaker 1: and they drink tins all afternoon and then back to
[18:39] Speaker 1: the pub.
[18:40] Speaker 2: It was. It was massive there. Maybe it couldn't make
[18:42] Speaker 2: The hill was just jammed.
[18:43] Speaker 5: The whole ground, particularly those big games were can playing
[18:46] Speaker 5: the local derby against Curry, I like the grand stand
[18:52] Speaker 5: and the hill was just erupted. At the time, the
[18:54] Speaker 5: whole hill erupted into a right after one.
[18:59] Speaker 1: Just an order gave Lobel Derby sesstrop it.
[19:01] Speaker 5: Curry had to stop the game so people could jump
[19:03] Speaker 5: onto the field. Remember another time there was a stint
[19:05] Speaker 5: that broke out and one of the Sestinel players not
[19:08] Speaker 5: going to say who It.
[19:09] Speaker 2: Is a bit of a sort I can imagine being
[19:10] Speaker 2: a bit of embarrassing saw point. He actually jumped the
[19:13] Speaker 2: fence and ran into the crowd to get away from.
[19:17] Speaker 1: Well Joe, I come here to play. In seventy three
[19:22] Speaker 1: nine seventy two, Cestrop won the cop and they boot
[19:26] Speaker 1: mate under the grand final, so we played him in
[19:29] Speaker 1: the opening game here in seventy three. It was my
[19:31] Speaker 1: first game at the club and there was that many
[19:35] Speaker 1: people there. The football ground was actually a cricket marble,
[19:38] Speaker 1: so it was round, so you had twenty murders from
[19:41] Speaker 1: the sideline back to the fence where you run out
[19:43] Speaker 1: on the ground for the rest of shed. They had
[19:45] Speaker 1: to put all the kids on the sideline because they
[19:48] Speaker 1: just couldn't fit it in another person in the ground
[19:52] Speaker 1: and we never run under the ground, bend to walk
[19:54] Speaker 1: and step over kids to get onto play.
[19:57] Speaker 5: Many people again to the bygone areas, like because we
[19:59] Speaker 5: have a of you bring Jackie bringing that in by
[20:03] Speaker 5: the way at the front.
[20:03] Speaker 2: This is clear, this is going to be a part
[20:05] Speaker 2: of our podcast. Room found this today. Yeah, it's it's
[20:10] Speaker 2: sweet Garry.
[20:11] Speaker 7: Is that so you captain here?
[20:12] Speaker 2: Gary, you're on the shoulders coach after a Grand Final.
[20:15] Speaker 1: Yeah that was seventy seven and you're on the shoulders
[20:19] Speaker 1: of giants.
[20:20] Speaker 5: See that the taping gas got over his Daz's done
[20:23] Speaker 5: his a c L Yeah, like decades before they knew
[20:26] Speaker 5: what to do.
[20:27] Speaker 1: Yeah. And when I used to run, now used to wabble.
[20:32] Speaker 1: It was that there, so they used to strap me up.
[20:34] Speaker 1: I was very luckily. I played another four years after that.
[20:38] Speaker 1: I had the same injury as Reg Gasney I had
[20:41] Speaker 1: on a kangaroo too. He went away as captain coach
[20:43] Speaker 1: of the Kangaroos YEP, and he got the same injurcy
[20:46] Speaker 1: that I was at ACL. They didn't know much about
[20:49] Speaker 1: it those days. They couldn't. There was the old guest work.
[20:52] Speaker 1: So I went down to him and he actually transferred
[20:56] Speaker 1: a ligament moodial across to the age.
[20:59] Speaker 2: They just put the other side.
[21:01] Speaker 1: They put bolts in my knee when I had an
[21:05] Speaker 1: enjoint replacement. I was going down. I was only supposed
[21:08] Speaker 1: to be there about two hours. I was down there
[21:10] Speaker 1: five hours and started a panic, and she went and
[21:13] Speaker 1: asked his sister what's going on. That was the problem.
[21:16] Speaker 1: They had to take the bolts out. They had to
[21:18] Speaker 1: retransfer the ligament back to the other side and then
[21:21] Speaker 1: put another knee join. It was a big operation, so
[21:23] Speaker 1: doctor Cummings, Bill Cummings, and he had a party doctor vote.
[21:32] Speaker 2: He's coming sider. Sorry.
[21:39] Speaker 1: Actually, Bill Cummings when he done that operation, he was
[21:42] Speaker 1: actually going around the world teaching other doctors to to
[21:47] Speaker 1: do the same operation. Become very famous. You know, he's
[21:51] Speaker 1: a professional.
[21:53] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[21:54] Speaker 5: Do you know what I was thinking about the other day,
[21:56] Speaker 5: I was sitting I was in the garage, just pushing
[21:59] Speaker 5: a bit of tenor and you know that's about you
[22:01] Speaker 5: train every day, guys, what it is it? And I
[22:05] Speaker 5: was listened to some old Kenny Rodgers and some old
[22:09] Speaker 5: country like Whale and Jennings and everything, and like countries
[22:12] Speaker 5: made this massive, massive resurgence.
[22:15] Speaker 2: We were there.
[22:16] Speaker 5: I remember the seventies into the early eighties was when
[22:18] Speaker 5: country was the biggest thing back then being it's like America.
[22:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, Kenny Rogers and whatnot.
[22:24] Speaker 1: Kenny Rogers, Dolly Park.
[22:27] Speaker 3: What's your Because you've got much like dad, do you
[22:30] Speaker 3: like to sort of get drunk and then get on
[22:33] Speaker 3: YouTube and play songs? I remember we did it a
[22:35] Speaker 3: couple of times last year.
[22:37] Speaker 1: We do it every night.
[22:38] Speaker 3: Yeah, I see where Dad and Joe we get it
[22:40] Speaker 3: from that kick on back at their house. Gays, can
[22:43] Speaker 3: you tell what you were just saying to me before
[22:45] Speaker 3: we started recording about the new medication you tried the
[22:48] Speaker 3: other day?
[22:49] Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, I went through. So when I retired from
[22:53] Speaker 1: the pit, I went through a stage where we had
[22:56] Speaker 1: all this money and I was terrified that I was
[22:59] Speaker 1: going to well not have enough before I died to
[23:02] Speaker 1: live on. So I went through this depression period. It
[23:05] Speaker 1: was bloody awful. I wouldn't leave the house and I
[23:08] Speaker 1: was tried all the time. Anyway, go finish up. I
[23:11] Speaker 1: don't like gather the doctor, but she said you got
[23:13] Speaker 1: to get the doctor. So I went to the doctor
[23:15] Speaker 1: and he said, well, what's the symptoms? So I told him.
[23:18] Speaker 1: He said what about erection. I said, yeah, I can
[23:20] Speaker 1: get it, but I don't I don't get the finishing product.
[23:25] Speaker 1: And he said, okay, right, so he said, I'll put
[23:28] Speaker 1: you on medication, put me on medication. So I was
[23:31] Speaker 1: going all right, but I sure wasn't working. So I
[23:33] Speaker 1: said went back to him, Gal come with me, and
[23:36] Speaker 1: I said I'd like to get some viagra, and girl said, bullshit,
[23:39] Speaker 1: you are you're not having viagra. So anyway, he said,
[23:44] Speaker 1: I won't hurt him, go honestly, it'll just help him.
[23:50] Speaker 1: So we got out where caravan and figure away for
[23:54] Speaker 1: the weekend and sure enough I took one and I said,
[23:57] Speaker 1: don't drink ohol. So I had all day Saturday after.
[24:00] Speaker 1: So I took this one tableau, the whole one. Well,
[24:03] Speaker 1: the horde that could have been horshes. You had no idea.
[24:08] Speaker 1: That wouldn't go down, And I said to go, don't
[24:10] Speaker 1: touch it. Don't touch it to the sword, I said, anyway,
[24:16] Speaker 1: after a while, your heart was bleating like that, I said,
[24:20] Speaker 1: ringing for crossing, I've got to die. I think one.
[24:27] Speaker 2: Safe and you have it for longer than four hours.
[24:29] Speaker 2: You got to ring one?
[24:30] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[24:30] Speaker 2: And was it painful?
[24:31] Speaker 1: Oh painful?
[24:32] Speaker 2: Really? Yeah?
[24:34] Speaker 5: Once he finished cracking a few fleas on break down,
[24:36] Speaker 5: a few dog fights.
[24:39] Speaker 1: She was saying, if you had those before? I said, no, no,
[24:45] Speaker 1: I haven't that. She said, your heart test and I said, no,
[24:49] Speaker 1: be very careful of you, like a little doch.
[24:51] Speaker 2: Don't be afraid to double the dose. Daring.
[24:54] Speaker 5: We're in uh in the north of England, very very well.
[24:59] Speaker 5: I'll walk them past Trush goes it was it. We're
[25:02] Speaker 5: in a town called Sirencester, anyway out north north, far
[25:05] Speaker 5: from Manchester, and we're walking along and Trush goes, look
[25:08] Speaker 5: at that you don't need a prescription by viagra, and I.
[25:11] Speaker 2: Being as in being as in not as as.
[25:14] Speaker 5: In Yeah, I've walked in there and there's a lineup,
[25:18] Speaker 5: and it's a tourist town, so there's plenty of people
[25:20] Speaker 5: in there. So I line up and I just walked
[25:22] Speaker 5: up the counter and there's a woman there, probably late twenties,
[25:26] Speaker 5: and I go.
[25:26] Speaker 2: She goes, hey, how can I help you? And I went, yeah,
[25:31] Speaker 2: I'm just after some viag and she went what she
[25:38] Speaker 2: goes sor can't? Yeah, I'm from viagra. He's got some viagra?
[25:43] Speaker 2: Can we get him informed to fill out? I don't
[25:50] Speaker 2: need it, guys, it's not familiar.
[25:52] Speaker 1: It's the time.
[25:52] Speaker 5: I remember on holidays and we're up at Port Students
[25:55] Speaker 5: and they had that they had a condom shop that just.
[25:58] Speaker 2: Opened there, you know, because it was people worried a
[26:00] Speaker 2: bit shop.
[26:03] Speaker 5: Walked in there, but you walked in it was a
[26:05] Speaker 5: sex shot and they had all these you know, different
[26:08] Speaker 5: vibrators and everything there.
[26:09] Speaker 2: Anyway, the bloke come up and he goes, hello, how
[26:12] Speaker 2: are you going? And I said, you know, and this
[26:15] Speaker 2: is my mom Gail, and we're after you. So yeah,
[26:19] Speaker 2: I get a vibrator. Then you have a bit of
[26:20] Speaker 2: fun with you.
[26:22] Speaker 5: He goes, okay, let's have a look at now. What
[26:24] Speaker 5: you'll see, missus John's that all the vibrators are color coded.
[26:27] Speaker 5: You said, look, I'll stop you there. I'll take the
[26:29] Speaker 5: red one, said missus John's.
[26:30] Speaker 2: That's the fire hydrant.
[26:36] Speaker 4: I was about to say, why were you with us?
[26:41] Speaker 2: Yeah? It was my ninth birthday? Oh my lord, just
[26:47] Speaker 2: get up you get up there.

[27:00] Speaker 1: Ye, braks and those the right air scans horse weeks
[27:05] Speaker 1: just over up scan they have a big parade. Have
[27:07] Speaker 1: a road a we used to have. We used to
[27:09] Speaker 1: have one here. We have out a kitchener drive out
[27:12] Speaker 1: past the football ground and there's an old so paddic
[27:14] Speaker 1: there and they used to have a road there.
[27:17] Speaker 3: What's the week they do here?

[27:24] Speaker 7: they do the like an eski race and they come
[27:28] Speaker 7: around post race.
[27:30] Speaker 2: What is that?
[27:31] Speaker 4: You know?
[27:31] Speaker 1: The posty bikes made of bikes, the little gammahas there
[27:35] Speaker 1: are the eighty c ses. They have a race here,
[27:38] Speaker 1: go around the block. They counts through the tech up
[27:41] Speaker 1: around the football grounds back again.
[27:43] Speaker 2: But they come around.
[27:43] Speaker 1: They can get people really comes straight past our house
[27:47] Speaker 1: and they crash. Oh. Here a couple of years ago,
[27:50] Speaker 1: about five years ago, rained that day in their corner.
[27:54] Speaker 1: The council had just put a nice clear patch of.
[27:58] Speaker 2: Gravel on the corner.
[28:00] Speaker 1: The motor bikes were hit just skin eighty seven crashes
[28:03] Speaker 1: on the corner.
[28:04] Speaker 5: A question when you sit and watch it on the
[28:08] Speaker 5: front porch, are you watching for the excitement of Hoodo
[28:11] Speaker 5: winds or are you watching to see who comes off?
[28:14] Speaker 1: Yeah, we actually put bluntsh on. We've been doing it for.
[28:23] Speaker 2: Is a pressing question, probably the most important question a lot.
[28:27] Speaker 2: Is there a nightclubst No, there's not.
[28:30] Speaker 1: Is there there's no music?
[28:32] Speaker 2: I reckon the back half of the house the nightclub.
[28:35] Speaker 2: Just looking around mate.
[28:36] Speaker 5: The old side of the garage there were used to
[28:39] Speaker 5: be the chruck pen. Of course, Frank had his way.
[28:45] Speaker 5: Frank attacked Dad one day and we came back from
[28:48] Speaker 5: indoor soccer and Gazz had Frank in the oven and
[28:54] Speaker 5: Gas was blind and then May we pulled Frank out
[28:57] Speaker 5: and honestly trying to cut through Frank.
[29:00] Speaker 2: It was like, I can't trying to cut through some man.
[29:03] Speaker 1: And I can't.
[29:05] Speaker 2: I can't eat it. Guys, you're not leaving the table
[29:07] Speaker 2: to you eat. Friends. Yeah, that revenge is best cold.

[29:18] Speaker 2: Well, thanks are coming on going.
[29:20] Speaker 3: Look, I don't want to keep you out in the

[29:24] Speaker 2: But that front of Gas is a few cut off important.
[29:28] Speaker 3: Slip slop slap message for everyone. Put sunscreen on your legs.
[29:31] Speaker 2: You never think about putting it.
[29:32] Speaker 3: On your legs.
[29:34] Speaker 4: Is that your cat?
[29:34] Speaker 2: Holy fuck? The biggest your cat? Is that a panther?
[29:41] Speaker 2: Have you got the biggest? How much are you feeding
[29:43] Speaker 2: that thing? Are you still feeding Frank? Technically I don't
[29:46] Speaker 2: know if that can be classed as a household cat.
[29:50] Speaker 3: Thanks for coming on dad, guys.
[29:53] Speaker 2: Did you enjoy it?
[29:54] Speaker 1: Yes?
[29:55] Speaker 3: I feel like it's a it's always a great connect
[29:57] Speaker 3: connecting factor when we will come over here and just
[29:59] Speaker 3: chew the fat.
[30:00] Speaker 2: But I would learn so much about the family. Unfortunately,
[30:02] Speaker 2: go helping the car and drive back. I drove.
[30:04] Speaker 1: What about we used to take him from we'd take
[30:09] Speaker 1: him back immer Jack to Sydney. He take all his
[30:11] Speaker 1: clothes off and stand up in the back.
[30:13] Speaker 3: So my best mate, the race man Goldie, like last
[30:16] Speaker 3: month and he said the same thing.
[30:17] Speaker 7: He goes in two days.
