[0:00] Speaker 1: Happy Tuesday, back Fences. Thanks for tuning in again today guys.
[0:04] Speaker 1: We have got a very special episode drop. So obviously
[0:08] Speaker 1: we have Peter Powers that you're listening to right now,
[0:10] Speaker 1: but later this afternoon, about four pm on our YouTube,
[0:14] Speaker 1: we will have the full hypnosis and cutting it up.
[0:16] Speaker 1: We sort of came to the conclusion that it was
[0:18] Speaker 1: so unique that we might as well leave it as
[0:21] Speaker 1: its own episode, its own entity on YouTube. And well
[0:25] Speaker 1: we learn or we crash and burn. So tune in
[0:27] Speaker 1: at four pm this afternoon and for a good laugh
[0:30] Speaker 1: on your commute home from work. Enjoyed the rest of
[0:32] Speaker 1: your week, and thank you for listening.
[0:35] Speaker 2: We're joined by the great Peter Powers, of course we have.
[0:39] Speaker 2: As we're recording this, we've just done about and what
[0:42] Speaker 2: felt like half an hour.
[0:43] Speaker 3: Peter.
[0:43] Speaker 2: It was an hour long hypnotism where you did me, Jack,
[0:47] Speaker 2: Trisha and Matthew. In terms of the people you've hypnotized before.
[0:52] Speaker 2: How easy was that to do?
[0:54] Speaker 4: It was fairly easy, you know must I've bit and
[0:56] Speaker 4: sized a couple of times before, so you respond incredibly well.
[1:00] Speaker 4: And I would say there's probably running about five percent
[1:02] Speaker 4: of the population who would who would respond as well
[1:05] Speaker 4: as you The difficulty today is that, because you're all related,
[1:10] Speaker 4: you'd be very interested to see what, you know, what
[1:14] Speaker 4: Jack's doing, for example, So you've got to try and
[1:16] Speaker 4: fight that as well. And you might notice at some
[1:18] Speaker 4: point I said, you'll be disinterested in what anybody else
[1:21] Speaker 4: is doing.
[1:21] Speaker 2: What does that tell you when you say that Matthew
[1:24] Speaker 2: is a top five percent of the population in easily hypnotized.
[1:29] Speaker 2: Does that mean like he's easily manipulated, he's got a
[1:31] Speaker 2: weak mind.
[1:32] Speaker 4: No, not at all. And it's a little bit of
[1:34] Speaker 4: a reverse that and I hear it every day, you know,
[1:36] Speaker 4: or I'm strong minded, so I can't be hypnotized. You
[1:39] Speaker 4: need to be strong minded to be ricized. You know.
[1:42] Speaker 4: It's a it's a faculty that everybody possesses the ability
[1:45] Speaker 4: to be recised.
[1:46] Speaker 5: You must find it frustrating people that some people will
[1:48] Speaker 5: pay together the show and they will get up on
[1:50] Speaker 5: stage and that they are determined not be hypnotized. You must,
[1:54] Speaker 5: you must have got sometimes Jesus Christ, like, you know, like,
[1:57] Speaker 5: what's the point?
[1:58] Speaker 4: Well, No, what I do think is and I ask people,
[2:02] Speaker 4: I just say, please just follow my instructions, and so
[2:06] Speaker 4: I watch people while I do it. Well, make a
[2:09] Speaker 4: few instructions, and if they're not going along with those
[2:11] Speaker 4: and they're looking at waving it, you know, somebody in
[2:13] Speaker 4: the audience that kind of thing, Well, then of course
[2:15] Speaker 4: I can't. I can't imitize them if they're not cooperating
[2:17] Speaker 4: with the procedure. But I know that if they do
[2:20] Speaker 4: cooperate with this procedure, I've got seventy or eighty percent
[2:23] Speaker 4: chance of getting the Monday. So I'm never really worried
[2:25] Speaker 4: about it. And you know, almost every show that I do,
[2:27] Speaker 4: somebody will approach me and say I didn't believe in it.
[2:30] Speaker 4: I just got up to mess around with.
[2:32] Speaker 2: I was going to say, like, I'm very skeptical with
[2:34] Speaker 2: all sorts of things I've done, like you know that
[2:36] Speaker 2: going into haunted houses, standing overnight.
[2:38] Speaker 3: With exorcists and they're getting haunted.
[2:41] Speaker 4: But I'm not.
[2:42] Speaker 2: And I'm always thinking, oh, there's got to be something
[2:44] Speaker 2: in this. But and I always a little bit resistant,
[2:46] Speaker 2: especially at the start. I was probably a little bit
[2:48] Speaker 2: resistant just then.
[2:49] Speaker 3: But you had me, and you had me deep, Pete.
[2:54] Speaker 3: It tastes almost too deep, I yellow of twenty.
[2:57] Speaker 2: But it was very very well done, you like you
[3:01] Speaker 2: Dad sort of said before Yeah, it's almost like you're
[3:03] Speaker 2: conscious and you know what you're doing, but you just
[3:07] Speaker 2: can't help yourself when it's happening.
[3:09] Speaker 4: So you've been driven by your subconscious mind, which you're
[3:12] Speaker 4: driven by a lot anywhere, but it's just it's just
[3:15] Speaker 4: slightly outside of your conscious control and so you find
[3:18] Speaker 4: yourself doing things that are happening.
[3:20] Speaker 5: Before we get more into hypnosis and your your career,
[3:25] Speaker 5: you've hypnotized cities. Where are so great for you? Said
[3:29] Speaker 5: Glasgow before we get into that. But how good was
[3:31] Speaker 5: the Footy Show for you? Peter?
[3:33] Speaker 4: Over the years?
[3:33] Speaker 5: It was brilliant for a lot of stand up comedians
[3:35] Speaker 5: such as Carl Baron. For you personally, it was fantastic.
[3:39] Speaker 5: It really made me in this in this country because
[3:41] Speaker 5: I'd done television shows and people would say, ah, I've
[3:44] Speaker 5: seen you on the Folty Show. It doesn't matter that
[3:46] Speaker 5: a million people watched, you know, one of the TV
[3:48] Speaker 5: shows or another TV show or even the series that
[3:51] Speaker 5: it did. I'm still known for my Fulty Show appearances.
[3:54] Speaker 3: How many Footy Show appears? How long did you do
[3:56] Speaker 3: the appearances for on the footage show?
[3:58] Speaker 4: I think I did it. I think the first one
[3:59] Speaker 4: I did about two thousand and three and or two
[4:03] Speaker 4: thousand and four, and I think I was there about
[4:05] Speaker 4: ten or twelve times. Yeah. Yeah, they just.
[4:07] Speaker 5: Kept it like it was just such smart that the
[4:10] Speaker 5: executive producer, Glenny Palace has just kept booking Pete.
[4:13] Speaker 4: Well the first time, I don't think they really I'm
[4:15] Speaker 4: not sure what they believe, but I don't think they
[4:17] Speaker 4: realized it was going to do what it did. So
[4:19] Speaker 4: they invited me in. I was going to do three
[4:20] Speaker 4: separate segments with planned ideas. Now I remember right the
[4:24] Speaker 4: first time I had Fatty jumping up on the table
[4:29] Speaker 4: doing something if you were running out of like a
[4:30] Speaker 4: night he was being an eagle. But it was afterwards
[4:34] Speaker 4: that you could see your faces. And this was a
[4:37] Speaker 4: little bit of a worry of mine because I always
[4:39] Speaker 4: worked with members of the public, and people who are
[4:41] Speaker 4: watching think it's real or not. But if they see
[4:44] Speaker 4: people who are fun people and celebrities and it's on TV,
[4:47] Speaker 4: people might be a bit more skeptical. But so I
[4:50] Speaker 4: thought it might work against me. You know, Matty would
[4:52] Speaker 4: do that anyway, or Fatty would do this anyway. But actually,
[4:55] Speaker 4: if those cameras closed up, he was gone. You just
[4:59] Speaker 4: see behind his eyes and you can see you can
[5:02] Speaker 4: see it with you as well, so people knew it
[5:04] Speaker 4: was Janmuine because these are people to see her in
[5:05] Speaker 4: the TV. They're in the living rooms on TV, you know,
[5:08] Speaker 4: every week, and there they are completely song.
[5:12] Speaker 1: Jack.
[5:12] Speaker 6: Can I ask you Jack quickly because you were Pete
[5:14] Speaker 6: actually brought you in the middle of an out of
[5:17] Speaker 6: hypnosis to watch what was going on. Yeah, and I'm
[5:20] Speaker 6: very interested to see your your opinion on it, because yeah,
[5:23] Speaker 6: I know how it felt being in it.
[5:25] Speaker 3: How did it look watching Trish Dad and I.
[5:28] Speaker 1: Well, yeah, honest, I did feel something and then he
[5:31] Speaker 1: pulled me out of it. But I thought, like personally,
[5:33] Speaker 1: like think looking around at the start, I was seeking
[5:36] Speaker 1: the last person here that's going to get hypnotized was you,
[5:39] Speaker 1: because you're quite well I think probably two like younger
[5:41] Speaker 1: people are quite skeptical as well on certain things, and
[5:45] Speaker 1: you know you don't believe in certain things. But when
[5:48] Speaker 1: you'll see in the episode, when when you do see
[5:51] Speaker 1: the YouTube and the footage of it, there's a stage
[5:54] Speaker 1: where you are taking it so serious that I knew
[5:58] Speaker 1: you were under like it was just like the mum
[6:00] Speaker 1: and dad were having a little bit of a bicker
[6:01] Speaker 1: or do something with the smell.
[6:04] Speaker 5: That was actually before him, and I could tell your
[6:11] Speaker 5: reaction coup like your head was like you were under.
[6:13] Speaker 1: But I thought if he isn't, he'd have to be
[6:16] Speaker 1: giggling at this, Like even me and the cameraman were laughing,
[6:18] Speaker 1: like I don't know. Yeah, there was something going on
[6:21] Speaker 1: with you because I knew you were under straight away,
[6:23] Speaker 1: and it surprised the hell out of me.
[6:24] Speaker 5: So in about twenty five minutes, we're going to play
[6:26] Speaker 5: the audio.
[6:27] Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll play audio at the back end of this party.
[6:29] Speaker 2: It is there's some there's some weird audio you're gonna
[6:32] Speaker 2: listen to as well, involving Dad talking footy, and I
[6:37] Speaker 2: remember that being so weird.
[6:38] Speaker 4: And you've.
[6:41] Speaker 2: He got you to lose some of your memory, and
[6:43] Speaker 2: you were it was almost like it was Maddie John's
[6:45] Speaker 2: that no one will remember. You were lost for words,
[6:47] Speaker 2: you couldn't remember anyone players names.
[6:49] Speaker 4: It was very fun.
[6:49] Speaker 1: Also, there's one where he's all sort of get up
[6:53] Speaker 1: and the way Dad was holding mum, I was worried
[6:55] Speaker 1: we might have to end it pretty.
[6:56] Speaker 4: Quick quite sexual.
[7:00] Speaker 5: Well, it's been about a decade now, I saw, Yeah,
[7:02] Speaker 5: you might have really kicked.
[7:03] Speaker 3: Out of their.
[7:05] Speaker 4: I mean, you're completely wounded. You're like an Italian royalty
[7:09] Speaker 4: at see whatever you're saying. She was just kind of
[7:13] Speaker 4: melting under the beauty of it. And then you pulled
[7:15] Speaker 4: it all back you opened said, no, they are right.
[7:19] Speaker 4: The agent who torture, who tortured to? Who taught your hypnosis?
[7:24] Speaker 4: I taught myself. I watched a movie when I was
[7:26] Speaker 4: twelve years old with my younger brother, just a year
[7:29] Speaker 4: younger than me, and it was an all black and
[7:31] Speaker 4: white movie and the hypnotist had the swinging watch. My
[7:34] Speaker 4: dad had a swing you watch. It was very similarways
[7:36] Speaker 4: He used to work a church on Sundays kind of thing,
[7:39] Speaker 4: and we said, let's get the watch and mess around.
[7:41] Speaker 4: So we were messing around and play acting. I didn't
[7:44] Speaker 4: believe at that time that it was real. It was
[7:45] Speaker 4: like magic carpets and all that kind of thing. But
[7:48] Speaker 4: when I was when it was my turn and I'm saying,
[7:50] Speaker 4: your eyelids are getting heavy, I started clothes. He did it,
[7:53] Speaker 4: and I just thought he was pretending, as I would have.
[7:56] Speaker 4: We were play acting, but there was just something about
[7:58] Speaker 4: the look of his face and when people emphasize I
[8:01] Speaker 4: know this. Now, there are muscles in the face that
[8:04] Speaker 4: relaxed that you can't do with your own volition. But
[8:07] Speaker 4: there was something weird about his face, and so I
[8:09] Speaker 4: clapped my hands. I just got the urge to clap
[8:11] Speaker 4: my hands, and he just kind of shook out of it,
[8:13] Speaker 4: but he was he was a bit emotional and sorriented.
[8:17] Speaker 4: Shut up, let's do this again. And I just knew
[8:21] Speaker 4: it was like a light bulb that it was so
[8:23] Speaker 4: incredible that experience. The next day, I went down to
[8:26] Speaker 4: library and I got a book on hypnotism and I
[8:30] Speaker 4: devoured it in about forty five minutes. And of course
[8:32] Speaker 4: I used to practice on him a lot. Yeah, and
[8:35] Speaker 4: then other people. And I was at school at this time,
[8:37] Speaker 4: so I managed. I got into a lot of trouble
[8:39] Speaker 4: at different times. But I was just an avid reader
[8:42] Speaker 4: and I would try to hypasize anybody who would les
[8:45] Speaker 4: me try.
[8:45] Speaker 2: Is it very easy to like, I'm not saying you would,
[8:48] Speaker 2: but as they hypnotistay out there that would use that
[8:50] Speaker 2: for their own advantage surely not ins of maybe like
[8:57] Speaker 2: you know, with making people fall in love with them.
[9:00] Speaker 4: Yeah, she can certainly do that. Yeah, I mean, you
[9:02] Speaker 4: could do that should I say, now there is something
[9:05] Speaker 4: and this is one of the myths that you can't
[9:07] Speaker 4: make anybody do something that they really wouldn't want to do.
[9:10] Speaker 4: But that comes from an ex Ericsonian viewpoint that is
[9:14] Speaker 4: probably from the nineteen fifties and sixties and he sort
[9:17] Speaker 4: of coined that. Or you couldn't, but of course you can.
[9:18] Speaker 4: That's the whole point of it. That's where I get
[9:21] Speaker 4: my my you know, do I My jolly is from
[9:24] Speaker 4: getting people to do things that they don't really want
[9:27] Speaker 4: to do and pushing it past that mark.
[9:29] Speaker 5: So I've heard before, you know, they talk about the
[9:34] Speaker 5: human brain and saying that basically, you forget about space.
[9:37] Speaker 5: We know less about our own brains really than what's
[9:41] Speaker 5: happening out there side the Milky waye what. But hypnotism
[9:46] Speaker 5: and hypnosis is almost like a window to that in
[9:49] Speaker 5: the fact that you're talking to me and you're telling
[9:52] Speaker 5: me that you know, basically, I'm in bed, I got
[9:54] Speaker 5: one sheet, the window is open, and it's getting it's
[9:57] Speaker 5: getting colder and colder, and you actually you feel that,
[10:01] Speaker 5: you know that that is a just shows you the
[10:03] Speaker 5: power of the brand.
[10:04] Speaker 4: It does. And sometimes I'm on the stage and it
[10:06] Speaker 4: can be really hot. You've got all the heat from
[10:08] Speaker 4: the audience, and you've got all the lamps and lights
[10:10] Speaker 4: on you, and everybody on the stage is pouring with sweat.
[10:13] Speaker 4: And then when I suggest it's col all shivering and
[10:16] Speaker 4: it blows me away. Every time, I think, Wow, this
[10:18] Speaker 4: is this is power.
[10:19] Speaker 5: Some memorable shows tell us about that. When you said
[10:21] Speaker 5: once before a bit, you told the people on stage
[10:25] Speaker 5: that they are watching pornography.
[10:27] Speaker 7: And so it was down your Wollongong and I did
[10:33] Speaker 7: this show and I suggest to the people on the
[10:35] Speaker 7: stage that they are watching a you know, a naughty movie,
[10:38] Speaker 7: but they're watching it on their own and there's nobody
[10:41] Speaker 7: around them.
[10:41] Speaker 4: So there's nobody on the stage. I'm not there, the
[10:43] Speaker 4: audience are not there, watching this in privacy. And then
[10:46] Speaker 4: I start the film. I tell them that I'm the narrator.
[10:49] Speaker 4: It's very technologically advanced. I'll explain that to me as
[10:52] Speaker 4: it goes along. So they open their eyes with some
[10:54] Speaker 4: sexy music playing in the background, and people start to
[10:56] Speaker 4: adjust the positions and behave in different ways. I've had
[11:00] Speaker 4: some guys go straight down, straight down the old five
[11:06] Speaker 4: figures full was this on the show stage.
[11:16] Speaker 2: I'm gonna say it might not be very nine pm.
[11:21] Speaker 5: Come finally sent me out of it.
[11:23] Speaker 4: So then I crank it up a little bit, and
[11:25] Speaker 4: I said, this movie gets even better. It's technologically advantage.
[11:29] Speaker 4: You can put your hand inside the screen and feel around.
[11:31] Speaker 4: So all these hands start coming out, making different shapes
[11:33] Speaker 4: and doing different things, and of course it's hilarious for
[11:36] Speaker 4: the audience. And I'll say, right, this crimes up. Just
[11:38] Speaker 4: one step more and you're feeling naughty, You're going to
[11:42] Speaker 4: climb it. You can climb right inside the screen and
[11:44] Speaker 4: do anything you want. So all these people climbed in
[11:46] Speaker 4: and all in sexual average activity of one description and
[11:50] Speaker 4: other different positions. There was this one guy on his
[11:52] Speaker 4: knees and he's he's enthusiastically giving head was and I
[12:01] Speaker 4: thought the king who was that? I actually returned and
[12:04] Speaker 4: found out there was a big trouble between him and
[12:06] Speaker 4: his wife was in the audience. She was in the
[12:12] Speaker 4: audience from the front.
[12:15] Speaker 2: Holy imagine that sitting there just watching that. That's one
[12:19] Speaker 2: that's a bad way to find out it is. That
[12:24] Speaker 2: is So go back to the footage show for a second, right,
[12:27] Speaker 2: because obviously a lot of big personalities on that show,
[12:30] Speaker 2: back in the day.
[12:30] Speaker 3: Were there any of them? Obviously said Dad was very
[12:33] Speaker 3: easy to manipulate. Was there ones that you couldn't hypnotize?
[12:38] Speaker 4: Yes, I didn't get I didn't get Pete Sterling on that.
[12:40] Speaker 4: I couldn't get him on it. Yeah, there maybe others.
[12:44] Speaker 4: I'll tell you want to let go because he was
[12:46] Speaker 4: terrified and I've never mentioned this before, was the chief?
[12:50] Speaker 4: Yeah he was?
[12:51] Speaker 1: He was.
[12:51] Speaker 4: And when I first met you all and I was
[12:53] Speaker 4: going to choose people to aund stock, he honestly I
[12:56] Speaker 4: could just see his whole face was pleading with me
[12:59] Speaker 4: to let him go, and I did, and he thanked me,
[13:01] Speaker 4: he said thanks for that. Yeah, right, Yeah, he really
[13:03] Speaker 4: didn't want to do it, but right, but it's great,
[13:11] Speaker 4: absolutely great, Yeah, really really good.
[13:13] Speaker 5: What a bit you said before I beg Gladsgow, You said, Glasgows.
[13:17] Speaker 5: If you had to pick a Peter pers capital to Gladsgow.
[13:21] Speaker 4: Yeah, Glasgow. I've been playing there since the nineteen eighties,
[13:23] Speaker 4: nineteen eighty nine. In fact, the first show I did
[13:26] Speaker 4: the Pavilion Theater was on the night became my father.
[13:29] Speaker 4: So that all those are little good luck omens. But
[13:31] Speaker 4: I think the crowd there, the audience there are just
[13:35] Speaker 4: just incredible. I think I loved Glasgow. I love Glasswegians,
[13:39] Speaker 4: and I'm really privileged to be playing there for you
[13:42] Speaker 4: know all this time. What Atria where Australias are very similar. Yeah,
[13:46] Speaker 4: you see. I've also done working the Netherlands and done
[13:49] Speaker 4: TV shows in the Netherlands, and they've got a much
[13:51] Speaker 4: kinder sense of humor. So if I was making somebody
[13:54] Speaker 4: somebody's ars on fire or something like that, you can
[13:57] Speaker 4: you can him, do you know? I love people in
[14:00] Speaker 4: a boat on the stage and they think they lost
[14:01] Speaker 4: at sea, and I'll lead them all the way through
[14:04] Speaker 4: the interval twenty minutes rowing under the lights, and then
[14:06] Speaker 4: I come back and make them think there's a shark
[14:08] Speaker 4: in the water or there's a rescue plane that goes
[14:10] Speaker 4: by with that it's the last chance to be and
[14:13] Speaker 4: the screaming salad down here and then it goes by
[14:15] Speaker 4: and it fades away. That you don't so now in
[14:20] Speaker 4: the Netherlands they just find that all too cruel. They're
[14:23] Speaker 4: like really, yeah they do. The people are victims. Now
[14:26] Speaker 4: in Glasgow, you know, the class regions won't let you
[14:29] Speaker 4: go too far because they just really sound people and
[14:33] Speaker 4: they I think they care about the people on the stage. Yeah,
[14:35] Speaker 4: if I push that too far was very cruel, and
[14:38] Speaker 4: I'm sure they'd let me know very quickly.
[14:40] Speaker 2: Is there every stories of like, because you put people
[14:43] Speaker 2: in some terrifying situations where I imagine they panic, Is
[14:46] Speaker 2: there any like consequences for that sometimes, like where someone
[14:48] Speaker 2: might drop and have like a heart attack or anything.
[14:50] Speaker 4: Yeah, They've never been any consequences for me.
[14:57] Speaker 7: But is there the stories of that, Like, well, you've
[14:59] Speaker 7: got you've got to be a little bit careful, you know.
[15:02] Speaker 4: I mean, I've seen people started to tremble, and I
[15:06] Speaker 4: did once to have a situation where somebody. You've got
[15:08] Speaker 4: to be careful when people are angry because sometimes the
[15:11] Speaker 4: sleep word. I had one occasion where the sleep word
[15:13] Speaker 4: didn't work. I'd made something really mad and that's angry
[15:17] Speaker 4: to come and get me, and I thought I'll just
[15:18] Speaker 4: say sleep. And I said sleep and it didn't work.
[15:20] Speaker 4: So I thought I won't be doing that again, which
[15:22] Speaker 4: is why today. Yeah, yeah, I said, you stuck to you.
[15:26] Speaker 4: Yeah you know. Yeah, so there is that. And I'll
[15:31] Speaker 4: tell you one occasion. Hypnotized mariophenic and we were doing
[15:36] Speaker 4: something on location in Manly on the court. So I've
[15:40] Speaker 4: been told that he hates tattoos. So I said, great,
[15:43] Speaker 4: let's go and get him a tattoo. So we I
[15:46] Speaker 4: talked to you first, and he said, I hate tattoos.
[15:49] Speaker 4: I hate tattoos, and he would tell me why he
[15:51] Speaker 4: hated them. So I took him into this place. Click,
[15:53] Speaker 4: you love tattoos, you want to get one? And he said,
[15:55] Speaker 4: I want to. I just want a tattoo. I just
[15:57] Speaker 4: want a tattooed my face. So what they did and
[16:00] Speaker 4: I knocked him out and put all these transfers on.
[16:02] Speaker 4: Of course, they make up. People are doing it better,
[16:03] Speaker 4: water better, whatever, and they're saying this comes off easily
[16:07] Speaker 4: and all the rest of it. So I woke him
[16:09] Speaker 4: up and he looked in the mirror. I tell you
[16:11] Speaker 4: he was. He was furious and he said so I
[16:16] Speaker 4: said sleep and thankfully it worked because I think I
[16:21] Speaker 4: was in trouble. And then I said, Mario, when I
[16:23] Speaker 4: wake up, you realize it was all just a joke
[16:25] Speaker 4: to make up. People are going to get it off
[16:26] Speaker 4: your face. It's a transfer, it's not really a tattoo,
[16:28] Speaker 4: and all that walk him up there there with all
[16:30] Speaker 4: the stuff to get it off, and it wasn't coming off,
[16:33] Speaker 4: and he put one hand round the back of my
[16:35] Speaker 4: neck and his hands are like bloody shovels, one hand
[16:39] Speaker 4: round the back. When I could se your thumb here
[16:41] Speaker 4: and the finger there, I'm going to die. I looked
[16:43] Speaker 4: in him. I thought, do I reind sleep here and
[16:46] Speaker 4: it not working? Or do I just you know, because
[16:49] Speaker 4: he started to squeeze, so I said, sleep, thank thankfully.
[16:53] Speaker 4: I don't want people to be too agitated. You know,
[16:56] Speaker 4: even when you were getting mad at start feeling a
[16:58] Speaker 4: bit guilty. You know, you get a negative impression from somebody.
[17:02] Speaker 1: At one point you got quite mad at you, actually,
[17:04] Speaker 1: Pete da Dad got quite mad.
[17:07] Speaker 3: Do you remember that, carp Yeah, yeah, that's what. Yeah,
[17:09] Speaker 3: we're just we're just saying that.
[17:10] Speaker 4: Yeh yeah. Did you listen?
[17:13] Speaker 3: Sorry at job here?
[17:15] Speaker 4: Sorry sorry to do this.
[17:17] Speaker 3: Do you listen when people are speaking? Sometimes I don't.
[17:21] Speaker 1: But Pete was getting I could see that Dad was
[17:25] Speaker 1: starting to get real. Unless you you actually pleaded into
[17:28] Speaker 1: the to the seat, which was a part of it.
[17:30] Speaker 1: And luckily I'm glad you did because.
[17:34] Speaker 4: At one point you're a guest in my house.
[17:37] Speaker 3: Said yeah, you're just in my house.
[17:41] Speaker 5: That's what you were saying at other celebrities, famous people.
[17:44] Speaker 5: You've done Pete over the years.
[17:46] Speaker 4: I do a little bit some that I can't talk about,
[17:48] Speaker 4: but I do a lot. I do some with sports
[17:50] Speaker 4: people and it's in the fighting fields, so boxers and
[17:56] Speaker 4: trying to get them to it's the mindset. It's the mindset. Now.
[18:00] Speaker 4: I've had people ask me to remove the pain. It's
[18:03] Speaker 4: the one liner draw. I won't say you won't feel anything,
[18:06] Speaker 4: because it would make a difference. And I remember Chris
[18:08] Speaker 4: Eubanks many years ago complaining that one of his opponents
[18:11] Speaker 4: had been hypnotized. And he said he hit this guy
[18:13] Speaker 4: as hard as he could again and again, and the
[18:14] Speaker 4: guy just kept coming and couldn't feel it and he'd beenized.
[18:17] Speaker 4: So that that was his.
[18:18] Speaker 5: Complaine Ben, That's right, And it's funny Chris Eubanks san
[18:24] Speaker 5: and Nigel Ben san just for yead amazing time.
[18:27] Speaker 3: So is that?
[18:28] Speaker 4: So?
[18:29] Speaker 3: Is that a very real thing whereby like sports people
[18:32] Speaker 3: will use hypnotists in order to fix them up, like
[18:36] Speaker 3: to get them on a.
[18:36] Speaker 4: Certain optimal, the absolute optimum, and you can make things flow.
[18:42] Speaker 4: So I mean even hypnotized comedians before they go on
[18:45] Speaker 4: before they go on stage, and just said everything's just
[18:48] Speaker 4: going to roll. You'll be firing on all cylinders. And
[18:50] Speaker 4: they come off and say that's the best show I've
[18:52] Speaker 4: ever known. Where all these things just kept jumping. I've
[18:55] Speaker 4: also sent somebody off communion on the station to forgot
[19:01] Speaker 4: all his punchlines.
[19:05] Speaker 5: What about you say you do live shows. Let's say
[19:08] Speaker 5: you don't have a big live show, but compare that
[19:10] Speaker 5: to live TV, because I imagine with live television we
[19:13] Speaker 5: did with us, and you've done other specials, you know,
[19:16] Speaker 5: and the Footy show was live live, no delay, no
[19:19] Speaker 5: thirty second delay, it was live live. That obviously as
[19:24] Speaker 5: to the stakes.
[19:25] Speaker 4: For you, it does a bit. One of my concerns
[19:27] Speaker 4: is that you'll see me give the suggestion, and I'm
[19:30] Speaker 4: very repetitive, and I try and make that concise as possible.
[19:33] Speaker 4: And when you're on live TV like that, you don't
[19:36] Speaker 4: want to repeat the same suggestion three times. If I
[19:38] Speaker 4: get any chance during a break or an interval, I'll
[19:41] Speaker 4: try and put the suggestion in first, but leave it
[19:43] Speaker 4: dormant so that the whole suggestions there. I can give
[19:46] Speaker 4: a very succinct version of it that they'll respond to.
[19:48] Speaker 4: But the guy who does the stats who's the guy
[19:51] Speaker 4: who does the stats on the well, I knew that
[19:54] Speaker 4: I had to make him lose his memory, right, so
[19:56] Speaker 4: I planted this in him but left it dormant or
[20:00] Speaker 4: I thought I had. So we went out doing another
[20:02] Speaker 4: piece with Fats and and they were sat there talking
[20:05] Speaker 4: about it. You just I don't know, I don't know,
[20:08] Speaker 4: and I'm in the I'm in the green room just
[20:10] Speaker 4: having a you know, a drink or something and thinking
[20:12] Speaker 4: I'm not on top the next segment and I just
[20:14] Speaker 4: lip red. I could see Fatty go pee pee because
[20:18] Speaker 4: he kicked his straight away. He didn't know anything. It's
[20:22] Speaker 4: tough for a statistician.
[20:23] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, imagine that.
[20:25] Speaker 2: Is there other scenarios like you just spoke about ones
[20:28] Speaker 2: you can't talk about. But now this is mainly I've
[20:31] Speaker 2: got this from TV shows and whatnot. But they bring
[20:34] Speaker 2: in like, you know, like the Mentalists, the TV show
[20:36] Speaker 2: where something Baker what's his name, Simon Simon Baker, where
[20:40] Speaker 2: they kind of similar stuff. You he's like psychic hypnotists,
[20:43] Speaker 2: but he will use that skills to help the police.
[20:46] Speaker 3: Is that is that a reality?
[20:49] Speaker 4: Yeah? Well, I've watched I've watched someone else, and I've
[20:51] Speaker 4: watched a few of their shows, and what he does,
[20:55] Speaker 4: he will it's all, you know, the right hand doesn't
[20:58] Speaker 4: know what the left hand's doing, and he and will
[21:01] Speaker 4: he will claim that these he's using the powers of
[21:03] Speaker 4: the mind alone. And so he might go into a
[21:06] Speaker 4: boxing range two guys who are sparring and there's some
[21:09] Speaker 4: young girl at the side, and he'll say, just try
[21:11] Speaker 4: and pick her up any thing, so that he tries
[21:13] Speaker 4: to pick the girl up, and of course he picked her up,
[21:15] Speaker 4: and then he says, now you won't be able to
[21:17] Speaker 4: do and he's doing all the as if he's trying
[21:19] Speaker 4: to influence on the second time you can't do it. Well,
[21:21] Speaker 4: a lot of those kinds of routings, I think, well,
[21:22] Speaker 4: that's that's that's what I do. Well, that's what I
[21:25] Speaker 4: could do. Or making somebody lose the memory and things
[21:27] Speaker 4: like that. So I've seen people do that ass sort
[21:30] Speaker 4: of psychic feats. So I don't know genuine one thing
[21:33] Speaker 4: is over another.
[21:34] Speaker 5: Would you say, As far as professions are concerned, psychics
[21:37] Speaker 5: and hypnosis first chasms.
[21:40] Speaker 4: They've always considered to be, you know, and that goes
[21:42] Speaker 4: back to Europe in the seventeen hundreds early eighteen hundreds
[21:45] Speaker 4: that all these every time a medium gave a performance
[21:48] Speaker 4: to be put into a transferst so that was all
[21:51] Speaker 4: part of it. When I'm in a trance, I can
[21:53] Speaker 4: I'm now a medium. So the two were always linked
[21:55] Speaker 4: and the church was very much against it. So even
[21:58] Speaker 4: even now some churches are against the psychic thing, but
[22:00] Speaker 4: they also think hypnotism is really really bad.
[22:03] Speaker 5: But you also said to me that when you started
[22:06] Speaker 5: performing in Melbourne it was illegal in Melbourne.
[22:09] Speaker 4: Hypno, yes, there was some There was some strict regulations
[22:12] Speaker 4: in Victoria that you were allowed to do hypnotism there
[22:15] Speaker 4: unless this board of therapists said yes, you can practice
[22:18] Speaker 4: here now for some reason, I mean, it was never
[22:20] Speaker 4: meant to encapsulate the entertainers, but it did, and so
[22:24] Speaker 4: these to stop people from from performing. Now I went
[22:27] Speaker 4: down to do ha Hate Saturday and I did Steve
[22:31] Speaker 4: Iiside show. Well, somebody put in complaints then about that
[22:35] Speaker 4: that I'd broken the law, and the promoter bravely put
[22:38] Speaker 4: about six or seven shows and in Victoria and the police
[22:40] Speaker 4: turned up to every single show and it was a
[22:42] Speaker 4: bit intimidating. So eventually I went up to them and said,
[22:45] Speaker 4: why why do you keep coming to the shows, and
[22:48] Speaker 4: they said, well, we've been it's been reported to us.
[22:50] Speaker 4: He said, strictly speaking, it's it's not allowed. We're not
[22:53] Speaker 4: going to do anything about it because we're just not
[22:55] Speaker 4: going to prosecute you anything. But we still have to
[22:58] Speaker 4: turn up. So then I end up going back to
[23:00] Speaker 4: the station and just getting on with these guys. And
[23:02] Speaker 4: they showed me this court case they'd taken another hypnotist
[23:05] Speaker 4: to court because he'd done a showing Victoria and I
[23:08] Speaker 4: think it doesn't sound like massive money now, but way
[23:12] Speaker 4: back in the eighties or whenever it was, I think
[23:14] Speaker 4: it was about ninety thousand. It cost a Victorian government
[23:17] Speaker 4: to prosecute this and they lost. But it was funny
[23:21] Speaker 4: just reading all the court transcripts that the hypnotists had
[23:24] Speaker 4: used the word. He tried to say that he guided
[23:26] Speaker 4: visualization and slipped out of using hypnosis, and they said, well,
[23:29] Speaker 4: why did you say sleep three hundred times? And he
[23:34] Speaker 4: was great. What he put up was great. But once
[23:36] Speaker 4: we knew that they had lost, that, we knew then
[23:39] Speaker 4: they weren't likely to prosecute me. So we were just
[23:41] Speaker 4: brave and we went and did it. And it's all
[23:43] Speaker 4: changed since then, so is.
[23:44] Speaker 2: There ever, like you finished a show and the people
[23:47] Speaker 2: that you'd hypnotized carry some of that stuff into the
[23:50] Speaker 2: next couple of days.
[23:51] Speaker 4: Yeah, well, you know I used to do stuff like that,
[23:55] Speaker 4: you know. I used to get people going down to
[23:58] Speaker 4: the police station to report the seeing you for things
[24:01] Speaker 4: like that, because you'd always get publicity out of it,
[24:03] Speaker 4: you know, and if you were if you appear in
[24:04] Speaker 4: some summer summer seaside resort at one place once a week,
[24:08] Speaker 4: you want the newspapers to keep backing you. So even
[24:11] Speaker 4: when I first went to Glasgow, I got some guy
[24:13] Speaker 4: I just said, I just just said it on the
[24:14] Speaker 4: stage and tried it. And I would have said face
[24:16] Speaker 4: if it hadn't know work, nobody had have bothered. But
[24:19] Speaker 4: I said he would go to the Sockety Hall, the
[24:21] Speaker 4: center in the Soccer Hall street and there's a public
[24:23] Speaker 4: fountain and then he stripped off to his under and
[24:26] Speaker 4: take a shower. The next day. So I was there,
[24:30] Speaker 4: the press were there and everything, and it was let's
[24:32] Speaker 4: say it was eleven am who was meant to do it.
[24:34] Speaker 4: It got to about quarter past and we were all
[24:36] Speaker 4: packing up, saying, no, it didn't work, don't worry about it,
[24:38] Speaker 4: and then along it came with just barus open his No.
[24:42] Speaker 4: I just think it's a little bit unethical now and
[24:46] Speaker 4: you've just got to be careful and I remove all
[24:47] Speaker 4: suggestions now at the end of the show, I just
[24:50] Speaker 4: make sure it's all gone well.
[24:52] Speaker 5: Put okay you back on tour again, Yes, okay, back
[24:55] Speaker 5: in Australia.
[24:56] Speaker 4: Back on tour.
[24:57] Speaker 5: What are the dykes put?
[24:58] Speaker 4: It's I'm not quite sure of all the dates, and
[25:00] Speaker 4: I know it starts in Newcastle on March the sixth
[25:03] Speaker 4: and there's a venue called Flamingos. That's where I am
[25:05] Speaker 4: Blacktown Workers the day after on the on the seventh,
[25:08] Speaker 4: and then it just continues from there with you gotcha.
[25:10] Speaker 5: There'll be a lot of people at their you know,
[25:13] Speaker 5: at least clubs venues that will be kind of book you.
[25:16] Speaker 5: We can wait. If they look in the book you
[25:19] Speaker 5: or inquire a bit of date, how their Richard put.
[25:22] Speaker 4: They could contact me at via email or via my website,
[25:26] Speaker 4: which is Peter Peter Powers Hypnotist dot com. There's a
[25:30] Speaker 4: there's a form on there with with a link. I'm
[25:32] Speaker 4: also on Facebook Peter Powers Hypnotist, Instagram, Peter Powers Hypnotists,
[25:36] Speaker 4: so people can find out what the dates are again
[25:39] Speaker 4: if somebody wants to book me. Peter at Peter Powers
[25:42] Speaker 4: dot com. Yeah, Pa was a real name. It is now,
[25:47] Speaker 4: and funnily enough, I've been using it for so long
[25:50] Speaker 4: and when I learned it not and I said, I
[25:52] Speaker 4: went down to the library to get a book. The
[25:54] Speaker 4: guy's name who'd written that book was called Melvin Powers.
[25:57] Speaker 4: And that's why I took that name, because it's another
[25:59] Speaker 4: story you probably haven't got time for now. But my
[26:01] Speaker 4: parents very religious people, and I had to leave home
[26:05] Speaker 4: at sixteen because I was bringing shame, and so I
[26:07] Speaker 4: didn't bring shame on the family by using the family name.
[26:09] Speaker 4: I decided to choose the stage name and that was Powers,
[26:12] Speaker 4: and it had nothing to do with hypnotic powers. It
[26:14] Speaker 4: was genuinely how to respect for this guy who also
[26:17] Speaker 4: helped me. I was twelve thirteen and I'm phonding this
[26:19] Speaker 4: guy up in California and I could never get hold
[26:21] Speaker 4: of him. And one day he answered the phone and
[26:23] Speaker 4: he gave me some advice that was just beautiful. And
[26:26] Speaker 4: when I did my first TV show in the UK,
[26:29] Speaker 4: I couldn't get it across the board until I did
[26:31] Speaker 4: like a really naughty show and it was called the Naughty,
[26:34] Speaker 4: Naughty Hitno Show and it was really really filthy, and
[26:36] Speaker 4: I had this guy was a conservative guy, right, but
[26:39] Speaker 4: once I've been on TV, I just wanted to thank him.
[26:41] Speaker 4: It was all because of him, and they helped you
[26:42] Speaker 4: given me. So I spoke to him again. He was
[26:45] Speaker 4: so encouraged to love the guy and he just said,
[26:48] Speaker 4: send me, send me the video. Senens, it's been naughty.
[26:50] Speaker 4: Oh I'm broad minded. Whoa, it wasn't that broad minded.
[26:55] Speaker 4: I didn't hear from him again ever.
[26:57] Speaker 2: Seen ESPN and Day on the TV show No Kenny Powers,
[27:01] Speaker 2: that's he's there.
[27:02] Speaker 3: He's a baseball player, not dissimilar.
[27:04] Speaker 1: I was just.
[27:06] Speaker 2: You should watch it because you remind me a lot
[27:08] Speaker 2: of even how you look, exact.
[27:11] Speaker 4: Looking rooster. Yeah, he's a model.
[27:13] Speaker 2: He's a former like baseball player. He sort of goes
[27:16] Speaker 2: missing and then comes back to make a return to
[27:18] Speaker 2: the big leagues and he's it is. It's one of
[27:21] Speaker 2: the funniest TV shows I've ever see. Yeah, it's Danny McBride.
[27:24] Speaker 2: You know Danny McBride.
[27:25] Speaker 5: Yeah, he's bloody hilarious. You've got to watch bloody good looking.
[27:30] Speaker 5: It's been so good to reunite with you. It's fantastic, mate.
[27:33] Speaker 5: We've had lots of fun today like we had before
[27:35] Speaker 5: with the footy shower and mate, look forward to seeing
[27:37] Speaker 5: you again. Good luck with the tour.
[27:39] Speaker 4: Thanks very much. I really enjoyed it today and thanks.
[27:42] Speaker 4: Allow me to be a guest at your house. It's
[27:45] Speaker 4: been great.
[27:45] Speaker 3: It's all right our house.
[27:49] Speaker 2: So we're going to throw into a little package the
[27:51] Speaker 2: Jack's put together now with some of the hypnotist stuff
[27:54] Speaker 2: that he's done on Trish and the rest of the family.
[27:57] Speaker 4: You'll feel the intensity hands very tight, concentration, very deep.
[28:01] Speaker 4: One to five are a little tight to concentration deeper one, two, three, four, five.
[28:09] Speaker 4: You're ready to be apnotized, but I'm going to emphasize
[28:11] Speaker 4: you one buy one Matty. You will think Cooper's hogging
[28:13] Speaker 4: the mic. You just think he's having a little bit
[28:16] Speaker 4: too much mike time, and you'll also have this feeling
[28:19] Speaker 4: that everything he's says a little bit dumb. Cooper, You're
[28:24] Speaker 4: going to feel the other way around. You're going to
[28:26] Speaker 4: feel that you should be doing more speaking of the mic,
[28:28] Speaker 4: and you'll think that Matty's just taking over and everything
[28:32] Speaker 4: he says just seems to be off just a little bit.
[28:35] Speaker 4: You'll even think that it's common for a bit stupid,
[28:37] Speaker 4: and you'll think that you need to hope the mic.
[28:39] Speaker 4: Once you throw you're wide awake. Wake up, he's having the.
[28:42] Speaker 8: Mic, Matthew, What do you think twenty twenty six? The Knights?
[28:46] Speaker 8: What do you think they're going to finish up on
[28:47] Speaker 8: the letter? Lost a lot of players, Dylan Brown's going there.
[28:51] Speaker 8: What do you think?
[28:52] Speaker 5: Probably not as good as the Titans? I reckon, Yeah,
[28:56] Speaker 5: but I think they'll go I think they'll go good.
[28:58] Speaker 5: I mean, if you look, they've got they've got Dylan Brown,
[29:04] Speaker 5: Fletcher Sharp, Kaleen. You know it's just working out that
[29:07] Speaker 5: that storm. Yea, I tear you the side. I tear
[29:12] Speaker 5: the side. He'll give a bit of cheek. This year
[29:14] Speaker 5: will be the Dragons will give a bit of cheeke. Yep.
[29:16] Speaker 5: I reckon, we're.
[29:23] Speaker 8: Gonna have a discussion or what? Okay, taking the mind
[29:26] Speaker 8: I was going to ask, I was just going to ask,
[29:30] Speaker 8: is it a new head coach there?
[29:31] Speaker 4: Justin Holbrook.
[29:32] Speaker 8: He was a former Titan. He used to coach with
[29:33] Speaker 8: the Titans.
[29:35] Speaker 5: Okay, I played with him at the Knights. Yeah, yeah,
[29:38] Speaker 5: I played with him the Knights.
[29:41] Speaker 4: I'm just asking.
[29:42] Speaker 5: Because what you're talking about is just not interesting or
[29:45] Speaker 5: to be honest.
[29:46] Speaker 8: Relevant talking about the same thing.
[29:48] Speaker 5: No, but what you're saying isn't interesting, And.
[29:53] Speaker 2: How is what you're saying any more interesting than what
[29:55] Speaker 2: I'm saying because immediately made about the Titans.
[30:00] Speaker 5: Because what what what I'm saying? No, no, no, no, no,
[30:03] Speaker 5: I know what you said about Newcastle, but yes, no,
[30:06] Speaker 5: I said I think the Titans going to have a
[30:08] Speaker 5: bit of season. And then when when I started because
[30:12] Speaker 5: I'm makers what I am I'm talking about. I'm talking
[30:15] Speaker 5: about a holistic approach to the competition. If you know
[30:18] Speaker 5: what that word is.
[30:19] Speaker 8: I know what holistic is. I'm just saying when I
[30:21] Speaker 8: ask you about the Knights, you have to relate back
[30:23] Speaker 8: to the Titan. It's not everything's about the Titans to go.
[30:26] Speaker 8: I think they're going to have a great I think
[30:28] Speaker 8: they haven't lost anyone from their side. I think they
[30:30] Speaker 8: have a great Why is shaking your head?
[30:32] Speaker 5: It's just you just you have no depth to what
[30:36] Speaker 5: you're talking about.
[30:37] Speaker 4: What this is stupidest comment you have.
[30:40] Speaker 5: No, you just have no depth, right, Like, Okay, I'll
[30:43] Speaker 5: give you one more chance. Paramount how do you think think?
[30:45] Speaker 5: Because I think I think they are a chance, big
[30:48] Speaker 5: chance of getting in into the eight.
[30:51] Speaker 4: Realize exactly what's going on.
[30:53] Speaker 8: I think they're going to just.
[30:54] Speaker 4: Love each other, respect to each other.

[31:09] Speaker 8: under Jason Rawles, and I think they're a tax getting
[31:12] Speaker 8: a lot there under Rosy, and I think they've improved.

[31:22] Speaker 4: your eyes, and I'm going to ask these questions again.
[31:25] Speaker 4: And if you tell me lies, if you tell lives
[31:27] Speaker 4: to me, your tongue will become hot, and it'll be
[31:32] Speaker 4: so hot you'll just have to hang it out with
[31:34] Speaker 4: your mouth to cool it down. And every time your
[31:36] Speaker 4: life will get hotter and hot, you like to hang
[31:38] Speaker 4: it out of your mouth just just to cool it down.
[31:40] Speaker 4: Each time you like gets hotter, hotter and hotter. And

[33:24] Speaker 4: not telling night or no.
[33:26] Speaker 5: Three because what you're talking about is just not interesting
[33:30] Speaker 5: or to be honest, relevant about the same thing. What
[33:34] Speaker 5: you're saying isn't interesting.
