[0:00] Speaker 1: And welcome to the season preview for twenty twenty six
[0:03] Speaker 1: on the Backstage Podcast. Letting people know what a huge
[0:05] Speaker 1: week coming up for the podcast. We're going to Vegas,
[0:08] Speaker 1: of course, We're going to have an assortment of guests.
[0:11] Speaker 1: We're going to be doing a podcast from Allegiance Stadium.
[0:17] Speaker 1: Of course, we're going to preview the two games over
[0:19] Speaker 1: there and up against Leeds. We're going to have a
[0:22] Speaker 1: lot of guests. We're going to go to dive bars
[0:24] Speaker 1: and do podcasts. It's all going to happen, so just
[0:26] Speaker 1: check it out. You'll enjoy it. I guarantee, yeah.
[0:29] Speaker 2: It will be. It'll be excellent. May We're going to
[0:31] Speaker 2: do a season preview first off the bat, though, can
[0:33] Speaker 2: we talk state of origin eligibility?
[0:36] Speaker 1: Well before that, Coop, can I just say this. I
[0:38] Speaker 1: know people say all the time you keep mentioning that
[0:41] Speaker 1: scene from pulp Fishing, but I didn't know. I don't
[0:43] Speaker 1: know how I missed this, but just recently, Peter Green died.
[0:47] Speaker 2: Who's Peter Green? Z?
[0:49] Speaker 1: You know that wonderful scene with Zed and Maynard in
[0:53] Speaker 1: the second hand store at the back making love. Yeah,
[0:58] Speaker 1: he died accidentally, Cent got shot, So he's passed away.
[1:02] Speaker 1: How do you accidentally get shot? I'm not sure, you know,
[1:06] Speaker 1: just playing with a gun as he shot himself in
[1:07] Speaker 1: the guts and the other one was At the moment, people,
[1:10] Speaker 1: I don't know if you're with me or not, but honestly,
[1:12] Speaker 1: I'm hooked on Maps. This series has just been is
[1:16] Speaker 1: a diamond.
[1:17] Speaker 3: It's off its head at the moment, isn't it.
[1:19] Speaker 1: It's just awesome. Such a good contrast, I must say.
[1:23] Speaker 1: In my history of watching mean people or mean girls
[1:28] Speaker 1: as they like to call it, Jeer and brook Brook
[1:32] Speaker 1: began as quite a normal, affable person. Fuck man, she's
[1:37] Speaker 1: just send it into crazyville.
[1:40] Speaker 2: There's lots of drama, isn't it.
[1:41] Speaker 1: Maps and you and keeps Jankie got to be careful.
[1:45] Speaker 1: I know, you've got to be careful these days. Peops
[1:48] Speaker 1: don't generalize all the rest of it. But in this
[1:51] Speaker 1: series and a lot of the series, you have a
[1:54] Speaker 1: look at the dynamics between men and women. You see
[1:57] Speaker 1: how all the blokes, pretty much all of them are
[1:59] Speaker 1: good mates, just hanging out together, and they're all happy
[2:02] Speaker 1: for each other. They won't make the girls are just
[2:04] Speaker 1: tearing each other apart.
[2:05] Speaker 2: It's funny, right because I got in an argument about
[2:08] Speaker 2: with a girl about the same thing the other day.
[2:10] Speaker 2: I said, geez, all the women on it are pretty crazy,
[2:13] Speaker 2: and she said, the women on it all the all
[2:15] Speaker 2: the blokes on there are pretty crazy. So it's funny
[2:18] Speaker 2: how like a lot of females in society, they'll look
[2:21] Speaker 2: at it and see, look at her, how all the
[2:23] Speaker 2: blokes are off their head, but the guys look at
[2:25] Speaker 2: the girls.
[2:26] Speaker 1: There are a couple of nicisses to mucht the men
[2:29] Speaker 1: defy anyway.
[2:30] Speaker 3: They've done that that Chris and the Brook, they've put
[2:34] Speaker 3: quite a that was just a that was as I
[2:37] Speaker 3: said the other day, Chernobyl Copper, that was just waiting
[2:39] Speaker 3: to happen.
[2:42] Speaker 1: Jack, I've got a conspiracy the then just hang with
[2:46] Speaker 1: football my conspiracy theories. Do you remember that guy? He
[2:49] Speaker 1: was the real They didn't like him. He was the
[2:52] Speaker 1: ass always given it to me.
[2:54] Speaker 3: He was just saying like he was very cynical about it.
[2:56] Speaker 3: Wasn't he was just waiting for it to fail.
[2:58] Speaker 1: Given him the bird shit. This is stupid anyway they
[3:01] Speaker 1: were Runner, but he will bring you on. I reckon.
[3:03] Speaker 1: They've deliberately put in with Brook. You think for the
[3:06] Speaker 1: reason that you think people like coming.
[3:08] Speaker 2: You think people like it. I mean some people would
[3:10] Speaker 2: see their partner in some of the people on there
[3:12] Speaker 2: and go, oh, like, you know, my partner does that.
[3:14] Speaker 2: But you think people like it because it makes them think, geez,
[3:17] Speaker 2: my relationship ain't so bad.
[3:19] Speaker 1: I think there's a bit of that. But I just
[3:20] Speaker 1: think people love drama. They love it. Last night, Jack
[3:23] Speaker 1: and I are watching when they said, okay, there's like
[3:26] Speaker 1: the dinner date again amongst everyone. Oh.
[3:28] Speaker 3: Mate, See, it's the first time since the first season
[3:31] Speaker 3: that I've hi fired that I've been looking forward to
[3:36] Speaker 3: watching Australian television, and it's been a very long time
[3:39] Speaker 3: since that, including the Maddie John Show.
[3:42] Speaker 1: Yes, it's at its best, but anyway, there we go.
[3:45] Speaker 1: Let's hang in there. We'll see you with that. Series
[3:47] Speaker 1: goes origin elegibility. Am I going? Have I fired?
[3:52] Speaker 2: How many coughs?
[3:53] Speaker 1: Excuse me your water?
[3:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, excuse me?
[3:57] Speaker 1: This is bad.
[3:58] Speaker 3: I totally understand. I totally understand. I'd be getting a
[4:01] Speaker 3: frog stuck in my throat after watching Maths all week.
[4:04] Speaker 3: It's it's terrorizing.
[4:06] Speaker 1: I had a nut upstairs. You keep it shattered in
[4:11] Speaker 1: the battle.
[4:11] Speaker 2: I don't want to back at do you.
[4:13] Speaker 1: Like a coop what we've done with origin?
[4:15] Speaker 2: I like it.
[4:16] Speaker 1: I like it.
[4:17] Speaker 2: This is I said this last year with the eligibility
[4:20] Speaker 2: it should be able to your international side. Should not
[4:23] Speaker 2: be able to affect who you if you were born
[4:25] Speaker 2: here or before thirteen. Like the rule is, if you
[4:28] Speaker 2: are hey, good to your going, you should be able
[4:31] Speaker 2: to play state of origin and still in the international level,
[4:33] Speaker 2: be able to represent your other heritage.
[4:35] Speaker 1: Two of the most important things in rugby league are
[4:38] Speaker 1: state of origin and international football. Leaf safeguarded both because
[4:42] Speaker 1: what would happen? See Tonga and somehow they must move
[4:46] Speaker 1: into Tier one status. Yeah, they could win a World
[4:49] Speaker 1: Cup tomorrow, they've got to go to Tier one and
[4:51] Speaker 1: so what was going to happen. Something was going to suffer.
[4:54] Speaker 1: It'll either be when they move into Tier one, either
[4:58] Speaker 1: Young and Tongan, Pete and Jey kids would have said, no,
[5:03] Speaker 1: we're not going to go to our nation of origin
[5:06] Speaker 1: or heritage. We're going to play it. We're going to
[5:09] Speaker 1: put ourselves down straight, so we're gonna play origin or
[5:11] Speaker 1: vice versa. What would happen is in ten years time,
[5:14] Speaker 1: the very best footballers in the country are in the
[5:18] Speaker 1: countries that can't play state of Origin and State of
[5:21] Speaker 1: Origin was eventually going to suffer because of this. So
[5:26] Speaker 1: world under the league, they're safeguarded both.
[5:28] Speaker 2: I'm just keen to see more. So, Like obviously people
[5:32] Speaker 2: have been talking about blokes like Adam Fanolan Blake and
[5:34] Speaker 2: stuff who have played New Zealand and other Tier one
[5:37] Speaker 2: nations who can now come back and play state of Origin.
[5:40] Speaker 2: I'm keen to see more so like the young players
[5:43] Speaker 2: who could potentially go and play for their opposite countries,
[5:47] Speaker 2: like Jack Howarth, he's actually half key we so he
[5:50] Speaker 2: can go and play for New Zealand rather than wait
[5:52] Speaker 2: for Australia, which I think would be sick for the
[5:54] Speaker 2: New Zealand game to be able to bolster that same
[5:56] Speaker 2: as Kaylen Ponger.
[5:57] Speaker 1: So I'm happy for Kaitlin to effect now. Yeah, I
[6:00] Speaker 1: mean I would love to see at the moment in
[6:04] Speaker 1: our going we've got so many fullbacks for him to
[6:06] Speaker 1: go there, go to go to New Zealand. Bill's profile,
[6:10] Speaker 1: Ryce Wats versus kaylm Pie on the national stage. Yeah,
[6:14] Speaker 1: I like it. And geez, I mean Adam vanol Blake,
[6:17] Speaker 1: he comes he and paining house up front potentially for
[6:21] Speaker 1: New South Wales.
[6:22] Speaker 2: That's crazy. That is absolutely crazy.
[6:25] Speaker 1: This is really interesting. And Jerome Hughes has come out
[6:27] Speaker 1: and said, no, no, no, I'm not interested. Boy. It
[6:31] Speaker 1: would have been interesting to see what the Queensland half's
[6:33] Speaker 1: combination was going to do, whether it was going to
[6:35] Speaker 1: be Jerome Hughes and camera Monster or didn't Monster or
[6:40] Speaker 1: didn't Hughes what they were going to do.
[6:42] Speaker 2: I reckon, I reckon they would have kept it did
[6:44] Speaker 2: in a Munster. I think that combination worked well. And
[6:48] Speaker 2: like Jerome said, Jerome come out and said, if I
[6:51] Speaker 2: was to play, it'd be a cash grab and I
[6:54] Speaker 2: wouldn't do that because putting on the Queensland Jersey, I
[6:56] Speaker 2: don't get emotional for that jersey like Munster does. Like
[6:59] Speaker 2: didn't I only get emotional for my Moldy Jersey, New
[7:03] Speaker 2: Zealand Jersey and a Melbourne storm Jersey nicely played. You know,
[7:06] Speaker 2: I don't think it's silly.
[7:07] Speaker 3: He's locked himself out of some cash now or.
[7:10] Speaker 2: Maybe what he's done is And Jerome loves money, as
[7:12] Speaker 2: we all know. Romy could have just said that to
[7:15] Speaker 2: maybe get the Origin people to start throwing more money
[7:17] Speaker 2: at it. Act like I'm not interested it's like the
[7:19] Speaker 2: blonde at the bar. No, I'm not looking at it.
[7:21] Speaker 2: I'm interested, but you know later that night you'll be
[7:24] Speaker 2: taking her home.
[7:27] Speaker 1: Oh my god. So he wants to be pursued like
[7:29] Speaker 1: the best logan woman in the pub. Yeah, what you're saying, Well,
[7:33] Speaker 1: i'd go if something happened and they said, no, Jerome,
[7:36] Speaker 1: we really wanted you picked Anyton like you're just talking
[7:38] Speaker 1: about there, I go Munster, Jerome, and I go, did
[7:41] Speaker 1: in four you would?
[7:43] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[7:44] Speaker 1: I mean I understand, Oh no, no, I agree.
[7:47] Speaker 2: But I think in terms of how that would look,
[7:50] Speaker 2: that seventeen would look, I think that's probably the best
[7:53] Speaker 2: seventeen they could pick. I know they do love having
[7:55] Speaker 2: Benny Hunt and that Harry Grant won two Punch as well,
[7:57] Speaker 2: which I think, but I think post Benny Hunt, which
[8:00] Speaker 2: Benny Hart might stop playing Origin this year, but we
[8:02] Speaker 2: don't know that that would be a deadly spine and
[8:05] Speaker 2: a Ford End combination because he didn't can play anywhere. Can
[8:08] Speaker 2: I ask the interchange rule with six does that go
[8:11] Speaker 2: into Origin as well? I believe, sir, So they can
[8:14] Speaker 2: so stat of origent teams and now pick an extra
[8:15] Speaker 2: two who will sit on the bench. I don't know
[8:18] Speaker 2: how I feel about that.
[8:19] Speaker 3: Clubs are going to be filthy this year.
[8:21] Speaker 1: Well, Jack, I think I think eighteenth and nineteenth Man
[8:25] Speaker 1: must actually be able to play football. Yeah, we can't
[8:27] Speaker 1: keep doing the mad Burton stuff and not let him
[8:30] Speaker 1: play in eighteenth Man perpetually.
[8:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, with an extended band hopefully that sort of nullifies
[8:34] Speaker 3: that they can play. And a lot of players like
[8:37] Speaker 3: three days, three days after a game, like they can
[8:40] Speaker 3: back up. I reckon, they're going to be fine.
[8:42] Speaker 1: I did too. You bring some other players, will effect.
[8:44] Speaker 2: Bring that Mike, just not like you're doing it like
[8:46] Speaker 2: how a gangster holds his gun, just kind of sideways,
[8:51] Speaker 2: just put it right under that.
[8:52] Speaker 1: I did one of those lift golf jack Monster and that,
[8:55] Speaker 1: and I did the gangster head tilted back with my
[8:58] Speaker 1: hands like I had like the gun there. Anyway, they
[9:01] Speaker 1: thought I was being serious. I think Monster was going
[9:03] Speaker 1: to post it.
[9:04] Speaker 2: I said, please, please, you you just I think you
[9:08] Speaker 2: just did it naturally. You literally just held your fingers
[9:11] Speaker 2: out like a gun. And then Monster goes to, you've
[9:13] Speaker 2: got to send me that. I just like put the
[9:15] Speaker 2: phone up. I went pose, boys and Dad just literally
[9:17] Speaker 2: just did it like subconsciously and months ago, send me that,
[9:20] Speaker 2: Send me that, and Dad goes, you can't post it
[9:22] Speaker 2: because people will think I'm in a bloody gang. I said, Dad,
[9:25] Speaker 2: I'm pretty confident.
[9:26] Speaker 3: Yeah, they're not going to mistake you for being.
[9:27] Speaker 1: In a game that was the street beat a symbol,
[9:30] Speaker 1: my rap dancing.
[9:31] Speaker 2: Shout out to our Brittain a kor as well. He
[9:33] Speaker 2: can also come back and play with stat.
[9:35] Speaker 1: He's Queensland.
[9:36] Speaker 2: He needs a Queensland.
[9:37] Speaker 3: They need a right back roller too, don't they.
[9:38] Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, originally I thought he was just so Wales,
[9:40] Speaker 2: but we're blessed with back rolls and ko weeks.
[9:44] Speaker 1: But here's the other. Here's the other one that's exciting.
[9:47] Speaker 1: So the UK. So if you look at the UK,
[9:49] Speaker 1: Ethan Strange can play for England. That'd be Greu Semmi
[9:52] Speaker 1: Walking could play for England, Max King England and Sam Hooley,
[9:56] Speaker 1: you know, the young young seam he was brought in
[9:58] Speaker 1: Castleford because his dad me which was playing there at
[10:00] Speaker 1: the time. Those four guys can play for England.
[10:03] Speaker 2: It'd be good because you saw in the Ashes last
[10:05] Speaker 2: year like they're probably missing a few of those key
[10:09] Speaker 2: players that we can actually sort of bolster that English
[10:11] Speaker 2: side up because the old ashes back in the day
[10:14] Speaker 2: where it was like England were just as good as Australia.
[10:17] Speaker 2: We needed that back, right Yep.
[10:19] Speaker 1: I think we all agree with that. We're all happy
[10:21] Speaker 1: with that. Jack, You're I think it's a great move
[10:24] Speaker 1: for the game.
[10:24] Speaker 3: Yeah. I can be argumentative if I want, If you
[10:26] Speaker 3: want me to, I agree.
[10:27] Speaker 1: No, No, no, I think it actually on. My prediction
[10:30] Speaker 1: is somehow. I mean, you never think Orange could get better.
[10:34] Speaker 1: I think it'll just bump it up another level. Now,
[10:36] Speaker 1: talking to one more thing, the real changes we spoke
[10:39] Speaker 1: about the extended bench to six. The one I want
[10:42] Speaker 1: to talk about most is the twenty forty rule meeting
[10:44] Speaker 1: that anything anything outside the twenty meters will just be
[10:47] Speaker 1: six again, boy Uto or what this adds just another
[10:52] Speaker 1: layer of fatigue and the game will just continue to
[10:55] Speaker 1: flow and accelerate. This is going to be I'm really
[10:57] Speaker 1: interested to see how this manifests itself on the big guys.
[11:00] Speaker 1: You know, will big guys, you know what? How is
[11:03] Speaker 1: this going to affect the one hundred and ten plus
[11:05] Speaker 1: kulo forward? How's how's he going to go with it?
[11:08] Speaker 2: Well? The six again? You saw the effect that it
[11:10] Speaker 2: had on those players. Anyway, I think now implementing even
[11:13] Speaker 2: more six agains into the game, like we know it's
[11:17] Speaker 2: it's literally going to implement like blokes like Harry Reece Walsh,
[11:21] Speaker 2: those Nip Tray Fuller like those guys are going to
[11:23] Speaker 2: be even more instrumental in the game.
[11:26] Speaker 1: And it's a big adventige too for experience halves. You know,
[11:28] Speaker 1: people like Nathan who are so good at steering the
[11:31] Speaker 1: side around the park. It'll suit them. It's a big
[11:33] Speaker 1: advantage for those halfbacks because, as you Bakes know, the
[11:36] Speaker 1: hardest bit when you're on half as far as steering
[11:39] Speaker 1: the side around the around the park and getting a
[11:41] Speaker 1: set of six going is kick reception. When they kick
[11:44] Speaker 1: them all over the head. You got understand, you've got
[11:45] Speaker 1: to turn around, you've got to run back. You've got
[11:48] Speaker 1: forwards who are tired, You've got to get them behind
[11:49] Speaker 1: the balls. You're organized a set of six. Unless something
[11:52] Speaker 1: happens at the start of the set, it's pretty much
[11:54] Speaker 1: just armrest lamars, alarm wrestle, kick, longen chase. There's going
[11:57] Speaker 1: to be a lot of that, and Sophie has people
[12:00] Speaker 1: who aren't necessarily used to playing seven Lockee Galvin as
[12:04] Speaker 1: an example. We'll see if that goes, there's going to
[12:06] Speaker 1: be a test for them. You're going to get very
[12:08] Speaker 1: few Okay, penalty, right, our boys, let's settle down a
[12:11] Speaker 1: little bit. Let's kick it down right, Let's put our
[12:13] Speaker 1: set sequence on. There's gonna be's gonna be less and
[12:17] Speaker 1: less of that.
[12:18] Speaker 3: There's going to be a lot more emphasis too on
[12:19] Speaker 3: like the middle third board players to at least Locky
[12:22] Speaker 3: Galvin at the Dogs has like a Kurt Man or
[12:24] Speaker 3: those sort of guys that can sort of get the
[12:26] Speaker 3: middle around the.
[12:27] Speaker 2: Park for your kick setup.
[12:28] Speaker 3: But you have the size that lack that's going to
[12:31] Speaker 3: make it a lot more difficult.
[12:32] Speaker 2: The bench, the six the six man bench. I liked
[12:36] Speaker 2: it initially, I thought I like, not that I liked it,
[12:38] Speaker 2: but I didn't have an opinion on it. As it's
[12:40] Speaker 2: come along more, I'm starting to dislike it more and more.
[12:44] Speaker 2: Why there's I was having this debate with Harry the
[12:46] Speaker 2: other day Grant, and he's quite like, not anti it,
[12:50] Speaker 2: but he's worried about. His point was what it can
[12:53] Speaker 2: do to the development of a couple of players who
[12:55] Speaker 2: potentially are on that six man bench. Every week and
[12:58] Speaker 2: whatever schedule reason they're not able to play reserve grade
[13:00] Speaker 2: or any other grades gets that, so there's no footy
[13:03] Speaker 2: involved with them. But a point that I started to
[13:06] Speaker 2: think about was where's the advantage for clubs that like
[13:10] Speaker 2: buy a good player who is so versatile in other areas.
[13:14] Speaker 2: Like I look back at like Ryan Pappenhausen when they
[13:16] Speaker 2: first put him on the bench at Melbourne, Yep, that
[13:19] Speaker 2: six man bench. They probably never would have put him
[13:22] Speaker 2: on there for that versus and played him through the middle.
[13:24] Speaker 2: They never would have tested that sort of thing.
[13:26] Speaker 1: That's interesting.
[13:27] Speaker 2: So I think the benefit of buying a player who
[13:30] Speaker 2: has utility value that's kind of out the window now,
[13:32] Speaker 2: Like no coach is ever going to be sitting there
[13:34] Speaker 2: and thinking, oh jeez, would I play him or him?
[13:37] Speaker 2: Will Tyrone Wishark can play anywhere in the backs, potentially
[13:40] Speaker 2: through the middle and hooker for me, I'll get him ago.
[13:42] Speaker 1: It's going to reduce the impact of the fourteen, but
[13:44] Speaker 1: basically it'll almost be three fourteen sitting on the bench.
[13:47] Speaker 1: You can play a little bit of this player, but
[13:48] Speaker 1: a little bit of that who knows mate, Like the NFLD,
[13:51] Speaker 1: you might take a specialist goalkicker on there, specialist field goalkicker.
[13:55] Speaker 1: Just keep him on the bench there in case we're
[13:56] Speaker 1: coming down to the last ten minutes, it's like we're
[13:58] Speaker 1: going to need a field goal to win the game,
[14:00] Speaker 1: and bring him on. It's going to be interesting to
[14:02] Speaker 1: see how they use it. But Coop, I agree with
[14:04] Speaker 1: you there the four man bench, I hadn't thought about that.
[14:06] Speaker 1: It was a skill in itself of the coach to
[14:09] Speaker 1: select the right blokes.
[14:10] Speaker 2: Bactic Now at the moment, it's even like that that
[14:14] Speaker 2: great Queensland side in twenty twenty that the left center
[14:18] Speaker 2: went down and they put Kirk kate Well at center. Yeah,
[14:20] Speaker 2: and he can't. Like everyone remembers that game because it
[14:23] Speaker 2: was like the day that Kurt kate Well carved up.
[14:25] Speaker 2: I think Gutho was in center and he like played
[14:27] Speaker 2: the game of his life, helped set up a try
[14:30] Speaker 2: for a J. Brimson. All this stuff that doesn't happen
[14:32] Speaker 2: with the six man bench, Like there's too much kind
[14:35] Speaker 2: of nothing goes wrong, like the ability in a game
[14:37] Speaker 2: where shit guts starts going wrong and then just puts
[14:41] Speaker 2: his hands up and does a job wherever they put him.
[14:42] Speaker 2: I like that aspect or rugby league.
[14:44] Speaker 1: So well, there is one thing certain. Every single rule change,
[14:47] Speaker 1: we don't really foresee the effect that's going to have
[14:49] Speaker 1: on the game till probably a few months down the track,
[14:52] Speaker 1: and you don't really foresee what coach is going to
[14:55] Speaker 1: do with it. Coaches will be looking at the twenty
[14:57] Speaker 1: forty rule and it'll be having them at the six
[14:59] Speaker 1: man bench going is there a loophole here? How do
[15:02] Speaker 1: we how do we adjust our football? And particularly as
[15:05] Speaker 1: I said before, the twenty forty rule, I'm really curious
[15:10] Speaker 1: if it forces the big man to lose weight and
[15:13] Speaker 1: come back down a little bit, I think I think
[15:16] Speaker 1: it will come.
[15:17] Speaker 2: I just bring something up. We just spoke about the
[15:18] Speaker 2: state of origin before, just before we get to our
[15:20] Speaker 2: season preview. I was watching a little bit of the
[15:22] Speaker 2: AFL Origin last week, didn't and they well you didn't
[15:26] Speaker 2: miss much because it was it was like Western Australia
[15:28] Speaker 2: as Victoria.
[15:29] Speaker 1: Oh those rivals.
[15:31] Speaker 2: They do not hate each other a leak but I
[15:34] Speaker 2: love because obviously I watched a lot of AFL when
[15:36] Speaker 2: I was in Melbourne, so around a lot of those boys,
[15:39] Speaker 2: and I was asking some of the boys, does anyone
[15:42] Speaker 2: really care about it? And the boys, going no, not
[15:45] Speaker 2: at all. But in the coverage they are all all
[15:47] Speaker 2: the commentators are going, look at look at the grit,
[15:49] Speaker 2: look at how much it needs to Victoria to get
[15:51] Speaker 2: one up over these Western Australians. And then they were
[15:54] Speaker 2: interviewing Bailey Smith after the game in the shares and
[15:57] Speaker 2: Bailey Smith notoriously like doesn't care about anything, and he's
[16:00] Speaker 2: sitting there and they're going it looked like, you know
[16:02] Speaker 2: a lot of people were sledging this sort of the
[16:04] Speaker 2: origin of the AFL, saying because people that don't really care,
[16:06] Speaker 2: but you know, you care out there, and Bailey is going, yeah, yeah, yeah,
[16:10] Speaker 2: I care out there, like you know, meantal It meant
[16:12] Speaker 2: a fair bit to me. You could see he was
[16:14] Speaker 2: just like they've briefed him on like you know, we
[16:16] Speaker 2: want these would have need it come down.
[16:18] Speaker 1: Hey boys, Okay, let's share some enthusiasm. Let's have a
[16:22] Speaker 1: little bit of niggle on the field, right, Let's let's
[16:24] Speaker 1: lift this a little bit. But they reference in the
[16:25] Speaker 1: Rugby League stat of origin bits and pieces.
[16:28] Speaker 2: Throughout like obviously naturally, because state of origin is like
[16:31] Speaker 2: obviously an NRL thing. I think they're better off doing
[16:35] Speaker 2: it because Victoria is so much better. Like Victoria obviously
[16:38] Speaker 2: all the talent, majority of the talent comes from there.
[16:40] Speaker 2: They had an unbelievable side against Western Australia.
[16:42] Speaker 1: That's the problem.
[16:43] Speaker 2: The problem for them is yeah, like nis Soars and
[16:45] Speaker 2: Queensland are quite equal in that sense, they're better off
[16:48] Speaker 2: making it like the NBA split Australia down the middle
[16:51] Speaker 2: and just go East Coast and West Coast that you know.
[16:54] Speaker 1: Coop and include northern territory in Darwin into the West
[16:57] Speaker 1: Coast because that leads itself more to a fairy tale,
[17:00] Speaker 1: you know. And if there is a rivalry, like talking
[17:03] Speaker 1: to people in Western Australia, like people in Western Australia
[17:06] Speaker 1: look at look east and goes make those pricks over
[17:09] Speaker 1: in the East Coast. I think they're better than us.
[17:11] Speaker 1: You're right, it's whether the depth would be there for
[17:13] Speaker 1: Western Australia. But the great thing about State of Origin
[17:16] Speaker 1: and Rugby League is that there is a natural rivalry
[17:18] Speaker 1: between Queensland and New South Wales that just runs through
[17:21] Speaker 1: every aspect including life.
[17:23] Speaker 2: Well that's what I mean, at least the East Coast
[17:25] Speaker 2: of Brisbane, Queensland, Newsiuales and Victoria, which Obviously Queensland and
[17:30] Speaker 2: New Souls have mostly an RL talent, but then that
[17:32] Speaker 2: West Coast can have your South South Australia where Heaps
[17:35] Speaker 2: and AFL players come from Northern Territory and WA. So
[17:38] Speaker 2: I think it'd be a lot fairer. I want to
[17:40] Speaker 2: ask you, Matthew, Yes, Coops. First, this is your first
[17:43] Speaker 2: year coming in as a part owner in the Titans. Yes, expectations.
[17:48] Speaker 2: How do you feel the year is going to go from?
[17:50] Speaker 2: Are you nervous?
[17:51] Speaker 1: I'm not nervous because Coops, I been to a number
[17:55] Speaker 1: of training sessions just as an observer and watching watching
[17:59] Speaker 1: the players, in the mood in the club. Everyone's up
[18:03] Speaker 1: on their tays this time of the year, and everyone
[18:05] Speaker 1: sort of sensed it off to misam. But I must
[18:07] Speaker 1: say I do know what a happy camp looks like.
[18:13] Speaker 1: I do recognize camaraderie, amoks of players. I can recognize
[18:17] Speaker 1: an excited playing group, and I can recognize a team
[18:20] Speaker 1: that I think is going to have a good season.
[18:22] Speaker 1: And I think they did and they showed that in
[18:24] Speaker 1: the trial game against the Dolphins. They were very strong.
[18:27] Speaker 1: I was a little concerned going and Josh should picked
[18:29] Speaker 1: the younger side and the Dolphins were close to full strength,
[18:32] Speaker 1: and I thought myself, come on, I hope these young
[18:34] Speaker 1: guys can just hold their hands up. Well, they won
[18:36] Speaker 1: the football game, so it was a great result. And
[18:39] Speaker 1: look again, I understand it's only a trial game, but
[18:42] Speaker 1: crucially in that trial, the team won using the tactics
[18:47] Speaker 1: that Josh had put in place and practiced all pre season.
[18:51] Speaker 1: Josh had done very little attacking football, like good ball,
[18:55] Speaker 1: inside the inside the opposition twenty all the offseason. He
[18:59] Speaker 1: knew the big area that the Titans had to work
[19:01] Speaker 1: on was their arm, wrestle, their grit, their defense, and
[19:04] Speaker 1: that's where they pull their energy and they look really good.
[19:07] Speaker 1: So credit to Josh and also big credit to Brian McDermott.
[19:10] Speaker 1: You could just see the difference in Brian McDermott one
[19:13] Speaker 1: competitions that leads as a player and a coach. Jack
[19:17] Speaker 1: played under him as defensive coach b mack and all
[19:20] Speaker 1: the stories come out of there. He worked them really
[19:22] Speaker 1: hard in defense and it showed it's the side. One
[19:28] Speaker 1: thing I do take out of trials is enthusiasm, desperation,
[19:33] Speaker 1: and defense, and three of those things were there for
[19:36] Speaker 1: the Titans. So there's some good signs.
[19:37] Speaker 2: No, there are good signs, and you don't We're not
[19:39] Speaker 2: going to reference trials too much on this podcast, but manic,
[19:42] Speaker 2: we haven't watched them all, but you could see. One
[19:46] Speaker 2: thing you can see in those trials is attitude. Like
[19:48] Speaker 2: you just said, like the shape and stuff. Sometimes their
[19:51] Speaker 2: shapes really good or all this attacking flare, and then
[19:54] Speaker 2: they get up. They get out there round one and
[19:56] Speaker 2: a team can't even put it together.
[19:58] Speaker 1: They have seen that team just flying through the trials
[20:01] Speaker 1: and then just fall out. And I think part of
[20:03] Speaker 1: that coup is it's a little bit like the last
[20:05] Speaker 1: training session of the week, the last training session of
[20:08] Speaker 1: the week. Sometimes you blokes have been there. You do
[20:09] Speaker 1: the last training session. Mate is going sideline, the sidelines,
[20:13] Speaker 1: throw on the ball around training. This is great, We're
[20:15] Speaker 1: heading for a big game. Then you get out there
[20:17] Speaker 1: and don't fire a shot. Same with warm up, Well,
[20:19] Speaker 1: same with a season. You're gonna have two trials, blitz
[20:22] Speaker 1: them and you get out week one and you get
[20:23] Speaker 1: beaten up because you think you're ready.
[20:26] Speaker 3: I think you're not. The round zero in Vegas, Cobba.
[20:30] Speaker 3: It's got me a little bit thinking the Knights. Although
[20:32] Speaker 3: the trials they've been getting a little bit hammered. I
[20:35] Speaker 3: feel like the Knights might upset. They're playing the.
[20:38] Speaker 1: Cowboys correct or yes, Cowboys.
[20:40] Speaker 3: Yeah, Cowboys their last game against that penduicide where they
[20:43] Speaker 3: put sixty six on them. Yeah, I feel like the
[20:47] Speaker 3: Knights there's a chance of an upset there.
[20:49] Speaker 1: Interesting Coup, Jack, Interesting because I think it was forty
[20:53] Speaker 1: mil at half time in memory watching it, but then
[20:57] Speaker 1: it ended up burning a very Cowboys game. I think
[21:00] Speaker 1: sixty to twenty four. Yeah, that's a very it's a
[21:03] Speaker 1: very Cowboys performance. I think if I'm Todd Payton, I'm
[21:09] Speaker 1: really disappointed in that second half. I'm going away saying
[21:12] Speaker 1: to them, hey boys, you years have done nothing to
[21:15] Speaker 1: dispel the beliefs around this football side. That will let
[21:18] Speaker 1: other teams, you know, basically, we'll let the give the
[21:22] Speaker 1: opposition an opportunity to score points that we're all about
[21:25] Speaker 1: an attacking shootout. So Jack, it's a fair point around.
[21:31] Speaker 1: What's the mail on Kaylon?
[21:32] Speaker 3: Yeah, they say he'll be there, he'll thereund one. Yeah,
[21:35] Speaker 3: they're saying the male too, is that Fletcher Sharp might
[21:37] Speaker 3: be winning the seven jersey the time being, but.
[21:41] Speaker 1: Fletcher and I he interviewed him and said could you
[21:43] Speaker 1: play seven? He said, I want to. Well, he's a good.
[21:45] Speaker 3: Player, Like, of course he'd be there. If it wasn't
[21:47] Speaker 3: for KP, he'd be the fullbacks starting, he'd walk in.
[21:51] Speaker 3: But the two weeks you can't underestimate two weeks off.
[21:54] Speaker 3: I always find that in regular league, a team that
[21:56] Speaker 3: comes off a two week break with a sort of
[21:58] Speaker 3: a negative attitude generally go good that first game, first
[22:01] Speaker 3: game back. Yeah, And the team that goes in on
[22:03] Speaker 3: a high generally comes back with a lesser than you know,
[22:08] Speaker 3: expected performance.
[22:09] Speaker 1: And that's what we're just talking about. Do you think
[22:12] Speaker 1: it's the two weeks where sides sit there and go, geez,
[22:14] Speaker 1: we've got a lot of work to do. Yeah, and
[22:15] Speaker 1: they you know, they dot the eyes cross the two
[22:18] Speaker 1: is well, the side that thinks they're ready to go
[22:20] Speaker 1: get but basically they skim through their two weeks. Okay,
[22:24] Speaker 1: we're ready to go.
[22:25] Speaker 2: Beauty of two weeks off too, Like if you've killed
[22:27] Speaker 2: it two weeks off, you literally put your feet up
[22:29] Speaker 2: for the thing you're not. All you're thinking about two
[22:31] Speaker 2: weeks is all the good stuff you've just done. Of course,
[22:33] Speaker 2: so there's two weeks off off the back of like
[22:35] Speaker 2: a really bad game. For two weeks, you're literally like
[22:38] Speaker 2: scolding yourself, You're reviewing it, You're thinking, how can I
[22:41] Speaker 2: fix that? Like you're actually trying to better yourself for
[22:45] Speaker 2: two weeks and you stew on that like the worst thing.
[22:47] Speaker 2: The best thing that Rabbit League is you get an
[22:48] Speaker 2: opportunity of the next week to fix it. But when
[22:50] Speaker 2: you have a week off, there's nothing worse like your
[22:53] Speaker 2: head noise are so bad, your head's fallen.
[22:54] Speaker 3: I'm sure those Nights Boys all they're thinking about is
[22:57] Speaker 3: they just can't wait to redeem them redeem themselves that
[23:00] Speaker 3: first game back from that last the redeem team.
[23:02] Speaker 1: And we're going to do We're going to do a
[23:03] Speaker 1: preview seventy four from Allegiant Stadium preview on those two games,
[23:08] Speaker 1: and the big English game is going to be there
[23:10] Speaker 1: in the morning. I'm looking forward to that, mate. The
[23:12] Speaker 1: English fans just big English continuent going this year. But
[23:15] Speaker 1: I think they're so I listened to Peter a Pit
[23:18] Speaker 1: of Landies on the hollow Sport Boys the other day.
[23:20] Speaker 1: I think it's like something like five jumbos are going
[23:25] Speaker 1: over for the NRL. Like you know, they said they're.
[23:28] Speaker 2: Expecting twenty thousand from Australia in ten thousand from the UK.
[23:31] Speaker 2: That's what he said. Yeah, yeah, wow, you almost got it.
[23:33] Speaker 3: They're also saying that it's one of the biggest it's
[23:36] Speaker 3: one of the biggest moneymakers for the city of Las Vegas.
[23:39] Speaker 3: They're saying that every year it's increased. So last year
[23:42] Speaker 3: the first year went like number fifty and last year
[23:44] Speaker 3: went to number eight. Now, obviously it's more than one
[23:47] Speaker 3: day event, but I think at the same time, with
[23:49] Speaker 3: the Pommies and the Australian dollar, the pound and the
[23:53] Speaker 3: Australian dollar, I think they actually make plenty, like they're
[23:55] Speaker 3: double their cash essentially.
[23:57] Speaker 1: Well, I think Coop Jack in the last couple of years,
[24:00] Speaker 1: I think Australia was on visits to Vegas. I think
[24:03] Speaker 1: Australia was about number fifteen in the world. We're number
[24:06] Speaker 1: two now, good number two. Look at what we're doing, Okay, right,
[24:10] Speaker 1: what we're going to do here. A lot of people
[24:12] Speaker 1: know it's very hard to go through all of the sides.
[24:15] Speaker 1: We're going to touch on them, but it's hard to
[24:16] Speaker 1: go through all the sides. You don't want to skim
[24:18] Speaker 1: in a preview. You want to dig a little deeper
[24:21] Speaker 1: and mate, let's do mate bold questions, straight answers. Broncos
[24:25] Speaker 1: are they going to go back to back?
[24:28] Speaker 2: And my theory behind it is they have won a
[24:30] Speaker 2: Grand Final, a lot of those boys have gone and
[24:33] Speaker 2: played in the Pacific Tests and the Ashes, so they
[24:35] Speaker 2: haven't come back to preseason post January. I just think
[24:39] Speaker 2: they're going to be a little bit underdone and I
[24:41] Speaker 2: think given the whole news around Reno retiring painhas, I
[24:46] Speaker 2: just think they're not going to be up to the
[24:48] Speaker 2: same standard. And as you know, Matthew, when you win
[24:50] Speaker 2: a camp the next year, every week you've got a
[24:53] Speaker 2: target on your head.
[24:53] Speaker 1: Absolutely, and it's really true he particularly for a city
[24:57] Speaker 1: for the Broncos, in a city like Brisbane, that even
[24:59] Speaker 1: if you coming third, last, second, last, ye're still a superstar.
[25:03] Speaker 1: And I can only imagine the profile of the players
[25:05] Speaker 1: now and you've got guys like Rees, I mean, the
[25:07] Speaker 1: profile and the superstardom that he's enjoying, it's unparalleled, I
[25:11] Speaker 1: think in parallel in the game. And then you've got
[25:15] Speaker 1: the paint situation going back to back and Penrith. This
[25:19] Speaker 1: is why it's so remarkable to Penrith to four peet
[25:22] Speaker 1: is most times, anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
[25:26] Speaker 1: I was I was talking to Madge about a month ago.
[25:29] Speaker 1: There was there was a bit of a dinner on
[25:31] Speaker 1: to congratulate Madage on their Grand Final win. It was
[25:34] Speaker 1: dozen of it's there and I was having a chat
[25:37] Speaker 1: to manage and I said, how do you feeling about
[25:38] Speaker 1: this season? And he goes, yeah, I feel he's going
[25:40] Speaker 1: to feel really good. The boys prepared well. I said,
[25:42] Speaker 1: back to back mate, I said, what can go wrong
[25:46] Speaker 1: will go wrong? He said yeah, he said, I learned
[25:48] Speaker 1: that it's house what it's what makes it so tough.
[25:51] Speaker 1: And as we said that before, you know. And a
[25:55] Speaker 1: week or so after that the news that Pain has
[25:58] Speaker 1: signed with South Sydney, so there's a hurdle straight away.
[26:01] Speaker 1: It won't affect pay in any way shape before. It
[26:03] Speaker 1: won't affect him, it's just the effect it has on
[26:05] Speaker 1: the team. I think the biggest factor, Coop is that
[26:08] Speaker 1: Adam Reynolds and Bennie Hunt a year older.
[26:11] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[26:11] Speaker 1: I think that's a bigger factor than the Pain situation.
[26:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, And I think those like Bennie had,
[26:15] Speaker 2: Benny Hunt and Rena had so much to play for
[26:18] Speaker 2: last year personally like they're ending the end. They're getting
[26:20] Speaker 2: to the end of their career. Bennie Hunt had a
[26:22] Speaker 2: storyline that would have motivated, motivated the hell out of
[26:25] Speaker 2: him all year. They're both great competitors, but I don't
[26:29] Speaker 2: see they don't have They're gonna have to find or
[26:31] Speaker 2: draw on something very motivating to get themselves up emotionally
[26:34] Speaker 2: like they did last year.
[26:36] Speaker 1: Let's talk about some coaches who you know they must
[26:38] Speaker 1: they have to have good suasan one is Toddy Payton
[26:41] Speaker 1: with the Cowboys, given the talent on that side and
[26:43] Speaker 1: they've been underachrieving and I suppose the other one is
[26:45] Speaker 1: Suebes too. They're going to have a big year mainly
[26:48] Speaker 1: as well. Which one Which which one do you think is.
[26:51] Speaker 2: Which one's more pressure?
[26:53] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[26:54] Speaker 2: I think I think probably Toddy Payton. May I think
[26:58] Speaker 2: Toddy Pate. I think they've like all the boys say
[27:01] Speaker 2: the same thing. They've had a side on paper which
[27:04] Speaker 2: is really really good and it's not Toddy. It's not
[27:07] Speaker 2: up to exactly Toddy Payton, but he'll be the scapegoat
[27:10] Speaker 2: for it, of course he'll be the scapegoat for it.
[27:12] Speaker 2: So I think that like they've got enough talent there
[27:14] Speaker 2: to really shock some teams typically this year, like Scotty
[27:18] Speaker 2: Drink Water. When Drink he's on Drink, he's nearly the
[27:21] Speaker 2: like and it's going to sound like a big call,
[27:23] Speaker 2: but Drink he's nearly the best fullback attacking fullback in
[27:26] Speaker 2: the game.
[27:26] Speaker 1: When he's on than Tom did.
[27:29] Speaker 2: Yeah, so you've got a like they've got a great
[27:31] Speaker 2: and they've just lost Reefs Robson. It's a big loss
[27:33] Speaker 2: for him.
[27:33] Speaker 1: But reed Marney apparently is up there looking really good. Yeah,
[27:37] Speaker 1: so it probably gives him a little bit more an attack.
[27:40] Speaker 2: Yes, Reese is gritty, he's a great. He's an old
[27:43] Speaker 2: school nine Reece Robson like he's single market. He's running
[27:46] Speaker 2: like he's tough. He's built like a lock. He's kind
[27:48] Speaker 2: of more of a that sort of forward, whereas reed
[27:51] Speaker 2: Marney's more of a spine like he's thinking he's connecting
[27:54] Speaker 2: with the rest of his spine.
[27:55] Speaker 1: The only thing was seeps. Also, this manly can be reactionary,
[28:00] Speaker 1: shown that in the past. I think serves this year
[28:02] Speaker 1: most definitely has to make he has to make play
[28:05] Speaker 1: finals football. I think Todd Peyton has to go. I
[28:08] Speaker 1: think the second week of the finals.
[28:09] Speaker 2: Do you think with like the leaving of DC though
[28:12] Speaker 2: they like do they do you think they'll see that
[28:15] Speaker 2: as like, oh, like they're not expecting to play finals.
[28:18] Speaker 1: I watching watching the trial games mainly has got a
[28:23] Speaker 1: lot more depth than they thought they had. Joey Walsh
[28:25] Speaker 1: coming along. We're going to talk about Joey and Joey
[28:27] Speaker 1: Walsh in the second and Jamal. They've got Jamal there
[28:30] Speaker 1: and still Brooks there. I mean, it's still a very
[28:33] Speaker 1: good roster Turba. So this is a side that I
[28:36] Speaker 1: think fans in their club will expect that they should
[28:39] Speaker 1: be playing finals. Football interesting one at Wars. It's one
[28:43] Speaker 1: of the Wars. Do you think Wars? And I'm with you.
[28:46] Speaker 1: I think Todd Payton by the way, there you go.
[28:49] Speaker 1: I think, what do you think about the Wars? Reckon
[28:51] Speaker 1: Wise will be top four?
[28:52] Speaker 2: I got the top eight. I haven't got I don't
[28:54] Speaker 2: think I've got him top four.
[28:56] Speaker 1: I've got him second week of the finals as well,
[28:58] Speaker 1: but I haven't got on top four.
[28:58] Speaker 2: I haven't got in the top four. I think last
[29:00] Speaker 2: year they people probably underestimated them, given how many people
[29:03] Speaker 2: they lost for Noil Blake, Tohu Harris Shawn Johnson had retired,
[29:07] Speaker 2: so a lot of people sort of come in and
[29:09] Speaker 2: I think they thought, oh, this is going to be
[29:10] Speaker 2: an easy ride because they didn't have this many stars
[29:13] Speaker 2: and both like Luky Metcalf and that they stood up
[29:16] Speaker 2: and they really give it to teams and they come
[29:19] Speaker 2: up with a really good style which they're not going
[29:20] Speaker 2: to lose. But I think teams aren't going to underestimate
[29:23] Speaker 2: them this year because they're going to go They're going
[29:25] Speaker 2: to be able to draw on that last year and go, hey,
[29:26] Speaker 2: we went over to New Zealand last year and we
[29:28] Speaker 2: took it easy on these waset team because we thought
[29:30] Speaker 2: they're not the wise of like they were the year
[29:32] Speaker 2: before with for Noil Blake up front. So I don't
[29:34] Speaker 2: I think on that sense, they're not going to upset
[29:36] Speaker 2: as many teams. But I think they're still a top
[29:38] Speaker 2: eight side.
[29:38] Speaker 1: I really like the one two Punch had of Dummy
[29:40] Speaker 1: half way and I still, in my opinion, remains their
[29:43] Speaker 1: most important player. He centralizes their attack, that's when they
[29:46] Speaker 1: look their best. And Sam Healey coming off the bench.
[29:49] Speaker 1: Sam's a really emerging player. He's he's going to be
[29:52] Speaker 1: a top liner.
[29:54] Speaker 3: I think Cobb too, Like what you were saying just
[29:56] Speaker 3: before about how the with the Broncos backing up, every
[30:00] Speaker 3: team seeing having expectation to play against you, you're playing
[30:02] Speaker 3: against the premiers. The fact that the Wires before they
[30:05] Speaker 3: had their injury crisis were going so good and I
[30:08] Speaker 3: had him at one stage going to the Grand Final
[30:10] Speaker 3: before Mitch Barnett and Luke Metcalfe had their season ending injuries.
[30:14] Speaker 3: It's going to be a bit of a detriment this year.
[30:16] Speaker 3: They're going to have some big games over there in
[30:17] Speaker 3: New Zealand with teams traveling over because the other thing
[30:20] Speaker 3: too is that clubs prepare, like if they don't go
[30:23] Speaker 3: as good traveling to New Zealand. They've all spent their
[30:25] Speaker 3: off season logistically preparing with their football managers about what's
[30:29] Speaker 3: the best way we can do it. Should we go
[30:31] Speaker 3: a day early, should we prepare earlier? Should we you know,
[30:34] Speaker 3: they try and get that real down pat so they've
[30:36] Speaker 3: got the best chance of performing good on the day.
[30:38] Speaker 1: They've got jack one of the things they've got. They've
[30:40] Speaker 1: got they've got a set formula, they've got a terrific defense.
[30:44] Speaker 1: They've got some very very good players coming through, like
[30:46] Speaker 1: leahala Sema. He played center on the weekend. He's gone
[30:49] Speaker 1: back to the bench this week. I mean he's ideally
[30:52] Speaker 1: he's a back rower. Yeah, Loop Metcalfe's a big one.
[30:55] Speaker 1: How when and how he comes back from the new
[30:57] Speaker 1: reconstruction I think may define their season. He's a question
[31:01] Speaker 1: without notice. Boys, if you had to do a dream
[31:05] Speaker 1: matchup in the Grand Final, let's just imagine now, you
[31:08] Speaker 1: just tell us what two teams you want to you
[31:10] Speaker 1: want to see them on Grand fin.
[31:11] Speaker 2: I'll tell you right now, I'd love it, particularly this
[31:14] Speaker 2: year with how their squads matching up. I'd love to
[31:16] Speaker 2: see Roosters and Rabbit o's like that'd be an unbelievable
[31:19] Speaker 2: Grand Final.
[31:20] Speaker 3: I'll tell you, I'd love to see the Titans versus
[31:22] Speaker 3: the Wires, cobber Jack, That's exactly what I was going Titans,
[31:27] Speaker 3: it's barely doesn't wouldn't sell out?
[31:31] Speaker 1: How dare are you.
[31:34] Speaker 3: Zeland fans in Vegas last year?
[31:35] Speaker 2: Like, Hey, I'm not talking about New Zealand fans and
[31:37] Speaker 2: talking about don't you remember what that reporter said to
[31:39] Speaker 2: Dez mate, there are Warriors fans out there? Where are
[31:41] Speaker 2: all the Titans there?
[31:42] Speaker 1: Don't worry. We'll we're going to do schoolies. Come early.
[31:45] Speaker 2: Mate. There you go.
[31:45] Speaker 1: Half ticket for schoolies, that's on you. Quarter ticket for
[31:48] Speaker 1: Tooley's writer boys. Who finishes high at season ten Roosters
[31:54] Speaker 1: or Raiders. This is Roosters once again, we begin a competition, saying, mate,
[31:59] Speaker 1: the Roosters a favorite. They can win the competition.
[32:01] Speaker 2: It's easy for me. I got Roosters. I got Roosters
[32:04] Speaker 2: top four. I don't even I think Raiders missed the eight.
[32:07] Speaker 1: I got it.
[32:08] Speaker 2: I got them ninth.
[32:09] Speaker 3: They don't have any changes.
[32:10] Speaker 2: They just got no Foggety.
[32:11] Speaker 3: No foggedy are true, but they got the young guy
[32:14] Speaker 3: coming through and the forward pack, which is probably the
[32:16] Speaker 3: most important piece for the Raiders. That doesn't change. But
[32:19] Speaker 3: I have the Roosters to make the Grand Final.
[32:21] Speaker 1: Jack, you just said the thing there which is so true.
[32:25] Speaker 1: You know, losing Foggedy, that that experienced head is a
[32:28] Speaker 1: big one. But also Ricky and Jamal had a very
[32:31] Speaker 1: good relationship, and Jamal was and Ricky expects a lot
[32:35] Speaker 1: from his half backs, expects a lot. You know, I've
[32:37] Speaker 1: heard him saying before the seven owns, the seven owns
[32:40] Speaker 1: the result. Now they've got young halves in there. You know,
[32:43] Speaker 1: that's it's a big ass for young halves.
[32:46] Speaker 2: I don't think they have like respectfully to those young halves.
[32:49] Speaker 2: I think probably a couple of those young halves they're
[32:51] Speaker 2: not like they're not first grade ready, but they're not
[32:55] Speaker 2: first grade ready to lead a team into the finals.
[32:57] Speaker 1: KB Black is gone, hasn't he? I think it was.
[33:01] Speaker 3: I do think down there he's been going good.
[33:05] Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think it's I've got to check. There's
[33:07] Speaker 1: so many changes going on and just have a check
[33:10] Speaker 1: for me. I'm almost certain as KB Black went from
[33:14] Speaker 1: the Broncos to the Raiders, and KB Black's been a
[33:16] Speaker 1: guy that they've they've the Broncos have put a circle
[33:19] Speaker 1: around for a long time saying he's going to be
[33:21] Speaker 1: our next half back. It just didn't happen. I mean
[33:24] Speaker 1: they end up going for Jonah. He's gone there and
[33:28] Speaker 1: he's got he's had a lot of wraps on him.
[33:30] Speaker 1: But the question remains, why did Brisbane let him go?
[33:34] Speaker 2: Well, but he's also never played first grade.
[33:36] Speaker 1: You know that's That's exactly what I'm saying.
[33:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like and you can't to expect a young
[33:41] Speaker 2: a young boy is going to go into a side
[33:42] Speaker 2: is half back and never playing first grade, only just
[33:45] Speaker 2: going to a new side and then lead him into
[33:47] Speaker 2: the top eight. I can't really see it on that.
[33:50] Speaker 1: So you're the Rooster's top four.
[33:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, and I've got raiders to And you know, last
[33:55] Speaker 2: year the boys down there credit a lot of their
[33:57] Speaker 2: stuff to like they printed all this. The media said,
[34:00] Speaker 2: oh they wooden spoons, wooden spooners, wooden spoons. They drew
[34:03] Speaker 2: on that. Then they won the minor premiership. Like they're
[34:06] Speaker 2: going to have to come up with a real theme
[34:08] Speaker 2: of finding motivation to get them through this long season again.
[34:12] Speaker 1: And it's hard.
[34:13] Speaker 2: Like god, people people think players go in, they go,
[34:16] Speaker 2: oh mate, what do you mean everyone goes in they
[34:18] Speaker 2: want to win a premiership. Everyone says they want to
[34:20] Speaker 2: win a premiership in front of the cameras and that
[34:22] Speaker 2: in front of the mic. I guarantee you there's not
[34:24] Speaker 2: everyone that actually wants to win a premiership. They actually
[34:25] Speaker 2: don't care.
[34:26] Speaker 1: Some people it's just not a priority.
[34:28] Speaker 2: And that's why. So the best clubs come up with
[34:31] Speaker 2: like a theme of like you know, they get the
[34:33] Speaker 2: they find the way to get the boys angry, or
[34:36] Speaker 2: they find the boys to get get them really motivated
[34:38] Speaker 2: by like showing what people might say in the media
[34:40] Speaker 2: about them and making it personal. If you don't make
[34:43] Speaker 2: it personal, it's not personal to the boys.
[34:45] Speaker 1: One of the most important things will the biggest factors
[34:48] Speaker 1: in war is propaganda. It's the same with the football side.
[34:51] Speaker 1: It's propaganda. Yeah, they're getting there. They're going to their
[34:53] Speaker 1: players saying, nobody, Rachel, look at billdo Richie Radabitcher, They're
[34:57] Speaker 1: laughing at all those things. The take place a lot
[35:00] Speaker 1: of properly gan to going on behind the scenes.
[35:02] Speaker 3: What a Cooper John's doing Vegas last year with a
[35:04] Speaker 3: bat like what there's lots of motivating fronts, you know.
[35:07] Speaker 2: That's to Sally, I like, and that's the thing that
[35:09] Speaker 2: Ricky hasn't contacted me this year about sort of liaising
[35:13] Speaker 2: up another thing with him to get motivated.
[35:15] Speaker 1: It could be a complacency.
[35:16] Speaker 2: Well that's what I mean. Last year Ricky rang me
[35:18] Speaker 2: and he was like, bring the bat on the thing
[35:19] Speaker 2: and mean, you'll have a little bit of a scuffle
[35:21] Speaker 2: and you'll get the galvanized the boys because the mates
[35:23] Speaker 2: on those Raiders sides. So I was happy to do
[35:25] Speaker 2: that for free, to just let.
[35:27] Speaker 3: That do nothing for free.
[35:28] Speaker 2: No, literally, I've never done anything free them.
[35:30] Speaker 1: I've got a rooster second week of the finals charity.
[35:32] Speaker 1: I've been bitten too many times by the roosters for
[35:34] Speaker 1: at the start of the season, I'm thinking, yeah they are,
[35:38] Speaker 1: They're my favorite to win the competition, and for whatever
[35:41] Speaker 1: isn't you know they just haven't hit, particularly an attack. Well,
[35:45] Speaker 1: I'm very interested to Sammy Walker and d CU how
[35:48] Speaker 1: they operate together.
[35:50] Speaker 3: Reech Robson's out for the first eight weeks. I think
[35:52] Speaker 3: it's right.
[35:53] Speaker 1: It leaves a whole yea.
[35:56] Speaker 2: D C or just.
[35:59] Speaker 1: Get it out of your mind and I'll see you
[36:01] Speaker 1: around that public toilet in the park. It's just layoff,
[36:04] Speaker 1: just for a little bit.
[36:04] Speaker 2: I'm just waiting out the front for you to come out.
[36:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right, mate, Cooper d C or Jamal Foggy,
[36:13] Speaker 1: who has the best season?
[36:14] Speaker 2: I got chairs, I've got d C. I think a
[36:17] Speaker 2: change speaking to him how happy he is right now.
[36:20] Speaker 2: I think he's at a point in his career where
[36:22] Speaker 2: he wants to have fun, and I think a change
[36:25] Speaker 2: of environment is going to be so good for him.
[36:27] Speaker 2: He's going to learn just some different stuff that he
[36:29] Speaker 2: can add to his game and I think he's going
[36:31] Speaker 2: to be so good for the Roosters because he's not
[36:33] Speaker 2: a robot. He's not someone who if they tell him
[36:36] Speaker 2: what to do, he's not afraid that. He's that kind
[36:39] Speaker 2: of figure in a team where he's not afraid to
[36:40] Speaker 2: stand up and say, I wouldn't do it that way.
[36:43] Speaker 2: I think we can do it this way. So I
[36:45] Speaker 2: actually think the rooster is going to benefit from having
[36:46] Speaker 2: him there because they have been known to be quite
[36:49] Speaker 2: robotic at different times.
[36:50] Speaker 1: Sammy Walker's favorite sides right side. That's d C's favorite too.
[36:54] Speaker 1: DC is and six do you expect? Do you expect? DC?
[37:00] Speaker 1: Who do you expect to run the show? Sam Walker
[37:02] Speaker 1: or Docu? Sam's in the seven? Traditionally it's a seven,
[37:06] Speaker 1: But I.
[37:07] Speaker 2: Think I think Chess will run the show vocally with
[37:09] Speaker 2: his talk, so I think he'll be organizing the stuff.
[37:12] Speaker 2: But and then I think Sam will play his natural game,
[37:15] Speaker 2: which isn't organizing reaction. He'll have He's wearing the seven,
[37:18] Speaker 2: so at the end of the day, you know, when
[37:20] Speaker 2: he calls it, they'll probably give it to him. But
[37:22] Speaker 2: I think Chess will organize the sets.
[37:24] Speaker 1: Okay, what about this one? The dally Ms who finishes
[37:26] Speaker 1: higher Kaylon Ponger or Reese Walsh.
[37:28] Speaker 2: Well, that's a juicy one.
[37:29] Speaker 1: The juicy one because Kaylen Kaylin's in the side that
[37:34] Speaker 1: is going to be really pushing to play finals football.
[37:36] Speaker 1: People expect them to sort of be another struggling season,
[37:41] Speaker 1: are they Are they expecting the Nice to make finals?
[37:43] Speaker 1: I don't know. I said a lot of people expecting
[37:45] Speaker 1: them to maybe push into the mid table, but there's
[37:48] Speaker 1: not that thought that I plays finals football. So will
[37:50] Speaker 1: Kaylen get enough wins to accumulate the same taken? Reece
[37:54] Speaker 1: Walsh is in the side with a lot of stars. Yeah,
[37:57] Speaker 1: they're pitching points of each other.
[37:58] Speaker 2: My theory. My theory is Kaylen will get Speaking to Caitlin,
[38:03] Speaker 2: he's like pretty excited for the year too, Like he's
[38:07] Speaker 2: very excited with how their mindset, Like they've got a
[38:09] Speaker 2: very attacking mindset this year, which I think is probably
[38:12] Speaker 2: hasn't been years gone past. It's been quite defensive, so
[38:16] Speaker 2: it's pretty I think it's exciting for both like him
[38:18] Speaker 2: and Dylan Brown with that style where they're talking about
[38:21] Speaker 2: we want to play expansive attacking style where it's all
[38:25] Speaker 2: out attack. If you score thirty points, we will score
[38:27] Speaker 2: thirty six and as.
[38:28] Speaker 1: A problem mate. The forwards are a concern. Yeah, lost
[38:33] Speaker 1: Leo Thompson, the little thin on last year with the
[38:36] Speaker 1: foards Thompson. I just that's that's the concern for Newcastle.
[38:41] Speaker 1: Do Newcastle play finals football?
[38:43] Speaker 2: I haven't got them playing finals football. I've gotten playing
[38:45] Speaker 2: finals football.
[38:46] Speaker 1: Where do you see them? Do you see them bottom
[38:48] Speaker 1: four or moving into that?
[38:49] Speaker 2: I see him mid I've seen him probably abound eleventh
[38:52] Speaker 2: right now.
[38:53] Speaker 1: I think that's fair care.
[38:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's around that. Which Look, I don't
[38:57] Speaker 2: think in their heads they're going to be going like
[39:00] Speaker 2: I don't think the fans are looking at them and go,
[39:02] Speaker 2: you know, we need to play finals football. I think
[39:04] Speaker 2: the fans and they deserve it. They just want to
[39:06] Speaker 2: see an improvement and they want to see a good
[39:07] Speaker 2: style of football up there in Newcastle.
[39:09] Speaker 1: I won the Dally Ms with this one. Nathan Cleary,
[39:12] Speaker 1: Isaiah Ottawa, Mitch Moses. Which of those three men finish
[39:16] Speaker 1: heightsts on the daim.
[39:18] Speaker 2: I've got Mitch Moses.
[39:20] Speaker 1: You have him if they play finals? The Eels, I
[39:24] Speaker 1: think he walks in. I think he walked through together.
[39:27] Speaker 1: Dellian medal.
[39:27] Speaker 2: I think so He's a bloke that like when they're
[39:30] Speaker 2: he's probably outside of Kaalen and some of those players
[39:35] Speaker 2: when he's on the field with that side, like they're
[39:38] Speaker 2: a different they're a different side with Mitch Moses in
[39:40] Speaker 2: at Paramatta and I think if he stays fit, I
[39:42] Speaker 2: think he missed the most of any nearly every any
[39:45] Speaker 2: player in the NFL last year.
[39:46] Speaker 1: What do you hear he and Jonah Peazant.
[39:49] Speaker 2: What have you heard about their combination? Yeah, I mean
[39:52] Speaker 2: I heard they're they're quite similar in players in temperament
[39:56] Speaker 2: as well. In temperament. Yeah, it's quite similar in that sense.
[39:59] Speaker 2: They probably both want to be the seven. Obviously Mitch's
[40:02] Speaker 2: the seven, he's experienced and whatnot, but that's probably going
[40:05] Speaker 2: to be Jonahs end game. Wanting to be that play
[40:08] Speaker 2: that sort of role. So I think they're still figuring
[40:10] Speaker 2: that out. But they're both if they can find the
[40:13] Speaker 2: perfect synchronicity together, like they're going to be a deadly combo.
[40:17] Speaker 1: Jonah will soon realize how lucky he used to have
[40:20] Speaker 1: Mitch alongside him in a long season, because Jonah's only
[40:24] Speaker 1: come in fits and spurs, has fits and starts hit
[40:27] Speaker 1: for Melbourne, bits and pieces to play a full season
[40:30] Speaker 1: in that seven jersey experience, the Highs and Lows is
[40:33] Speaker 1: a totally different story. So have Mitch alongside him is
[40:36] Speaker 1: a blessing. Even if you want to own that seven jersey,
[40:38] Speaker 1: That seven jersey will come eventually when he goes to
[40:41] Speaker 1: the Broncos. Another one here, Munster or Did who finishes higher?
[40:47] Speaker 1: Se this is? This is I'm going to I'm going
[40:49] Speaker 1: to go Did because I I sort of I reckon that.
[40:55] Speaker 1: I reckon the Cowboys will be in and around the eight.
[40:59] Speaker 1: I think they'll get enough wins for Tommy if he
[41:02] Speaker 1: has a big season to to finish higher than Monster.
[41:06] Speaker 1: You know, again with Munster, he's got Harry and Jerome
[41:09] Speaker 1: pinching points off him.
[41:10] Speaker 2: I got Monster. I think I think listening to how
[41:14] Speaker 2: the boys have been training down there and how excited
[41:17] Speaker 2: they are, particularly with the addition of suefar logo, like
[41:21] Speaker 2: I think that spine had been of perhaps Monster's hus
[41:24] Speaker 2: and Harry. They've been together for so long, not that
[41:26] Speaker 2: there was a bit of like complacency, but I think
[41:29] Speaker 2: they kind of because they knew each other inside and out,
[41:32] Speaker 2: like there wasn't a whole heap of difference going on
[41:34] Speaker 2: they all kind of just were going through a lot
[41:36] Speaker 2: of their motions with it, Sue. Are The boys say,
[41:39] Speaker 2: like he's he's just a fresh energy. The boys say,
[41:42] Speaker 2: like he just calls things at the drop of a hat,
[41:45] Speaker 2: and like it's literally like for fresh blood's being injected
[41:48] Speaker 2: into all of them. Like he's actually elevating those boys
[41:50] Speaker 2: because they're excited to play with him because he's like
[41:53] Speaker 2: just runs around like a headless chuck and he calls
[41:55] Speaker 2: It's like Cooper Kronk used toalk about playing with Billy
[41:57] Speaker 2: Slater back in the day, and he'd say, Billy just
[41:59] Speaker 2: sit off his hip and call a thousand things in
[42:02] Speaker 2: a set, just like I want to do this. Calls this,
[42:04] Speaker 2: calls this, and Cooper to the point where Cooper will
[42:06] Speaker 2: be like, like, you're annoying me. Stop stop And then
[42:08] Speaker 2: he'd but when he picked the time to give it
[42:11] Speaker 2: to Slatsy, he'd had something called ready to go because
[42:13] Speaker 2: he was just so excited to get the ball. The
[42:15] Speaker 2: boys says, so it was like that, so it's exciting
[42:17] Speaker 2: for that.
[42:17] Speaker 1: Well, the forty or the forty the six again rule now,
[42:21] Speaker 1: particularly with the twenty forty, suits himself to the smaller fullback.
[42:24] Speaker 1: I mean, look at Trey Fuller, how well he's emerged.
[42:27] Speaker 1: Ke Kinney. As I said before, so far long ago,
[42:31] Speaker 1: the little fullback is these new address adjustments and a
[42:35] Speaker 1: rule is going to suit him even more. Okay, to
[42:38] Speaker 1: the two dummy halfs have gone to a new club,
[42:40] Speaker 1: Ree Robson from the Cowboys and the Roosters, Reid Marney
[42:44] Speaker 1: from the Dogs off to the Cowboys. Who's going to
[42:46] Speaker 1: have the better year?
[42:47] Speaker 2: I think Rece Robson. I think Rece Robson now a.
[42:50] Speaker 1: Lot of expectations at the Roosters.
[42:52] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's just played, He's played Origin. I
[42:55] Speaker 2: think he's he's handling that sort of expectation. I think
[42:58] Speaker 2: a lot of the expectation has fall onto Dce, like
[43:01] Speaker 2: people have almost forgot Riece Robson has even gone there. Yeah,
[43:03] Speaker 2: so I think it's handy for that reason for Roo.
[43:06] Speaker 1: Yeah, I got to feel. I've just got to feel,
[43:08] Speaker 1: in real money, he's going to a big year and
[43:10] Speaker 1: all the talk coming out of town fall that is
[43:12] Speaker 1: fitting really well. Taken on a leadership role. Yeah. Interesting.
[43:16] Speaker 1: And the reason I didn't beat Master before I was
[43:18] Speaker 1: going to say it was I was filthy on the
[43:20] Speaker 1: way that you and Manster ganged up on me at
[43:22] Speaker 1: live golf. Every time I turned around, he's taking the
[43:25] Speaker 1: piss out of me. So fuck you and fuck you master. Okay.
[43:29] Speaker 1: The team most likely from outside the eight to seriously
[43:33] Speaker 1: challenge for the title a bit like Cambray did last year,
[43:37] Speaker 1: I've gone Dolphins. I'll lead off that Dolphins at the
[43:41] Speaker 1: moment are twenty one to win the comp. I think
[43:43] Speaker 1: that is way overs I'd happened about twelve to fourteen
[43:45] Speaker 1: to one. Have a look at that, have a look
[43:48] Speaker 1: at their side outside backs.
[43:50] Speaker 2: I think that having a look at great pack, have
[43:53] Speaker 2: a looking at who finished outside the eight last year.
[43:55] Speaker 2: I think there's only three teams that can even get
[43:57] Speaker 2: in the eighth this year. For me, it's Dolphins, Paramatta
[44:02] Speaker 2: and South Sydney Rabbits. I think the Rabbits are probably
[44:05] Speaker 2: the ones for me that get in. I think they
[44:08] Speaker 2: just if they can put it together, like their ceiling
[44:13] Speaker 2: is unbelievable. It's whether they can sort of get consistent
[44:17] Speaker 2: with their best performance in their worst performance. That's they're
[44:19] Speaker 2: going to be their big struggle.
[44:21] Speaker 1: Interesting about Christian Wolf, He's done a he's done a
[44:23] Speaker 1: very very good job with this Dolphin side. He's not
[44:26] Speaker 1: under pressure at the moment. They don't play finals this year,
[44:30] Speaker 1: the pressure will just start to begin. This is this
[44:33] Speaker 1: is a team who I believe must play finals this year.
[44:37] Speaker 1: It's just too good a team. And they've got a
[44:39] Speaker 1: young bloke in the half back Jersey that's just getting
[44:42] Speaker 1: better and better and better all the time. By the
[44:44] Speaker 1: end of this season, you might be saying he's the best.
[44:46] Speaker 1: He's the best player in the game. That's how quick
[44:48] Speaker 1: he's That's how quickly he's improving.
[44:52] Speaker 3: So plus, their middle forward depth is the gaming as
[44:55] Speaker 3: the Titan the other week was huge. Like even Fleggler
[44:58] Speaker 3: coming back. They must have got compensation during his time
[45:02] Speaker 3: out for the last couple of years because she's there
[45:04] Speaker 3: forward stocks that's good full Max Plath, Kurt Donna, who yeah,
[45:10] Speaker 3: Jesus mate, They've got some very good players on the outfit.
[45:13] Speaker 2: Will this be Felicia's last year? He's got one more
[45:15] Speaker 2: year after that. If that career, Felice has got to
[45:20] Speaker 2: be older than you.
[45:21] Speaker 3: From memory though he started, he's a late bloomer, wouldn't
[45:23] Speaker 3: he Coop, Yeah, he was a little bit of a
[45:25] Speaker 3: late bloomer in the first grade.
[45:26] Speaker 2: He used to play fifteen minutes off the bench to
[45:28] Speaker 2: the ruck and be blowing and then not literally blowing
[45:31] Speaker 2: like his Bluetooth story, and then he ended up like
[45:36] Speaker 2: the next year they just turned him into like an
[45:38] Speaker 2: eighty minute back rower. That was the year with twenty
[45:40] Speaker 2: seventeen where Billy Slater basically just handed him the ball
[45:44] Speaker 2: over the triline, scoring like thirty tries.
[45:46] Speaker 1: Who finished a sigh on the ladder? Tigers, Dragons or rather.
[45:50] Speaker 2: Nights nights for me?
[45:51] Speaker 1: Do they finish highs?
[45:52] Speaker 2: I got them? I think like I'm not. I reckon
[45:57] Speaker 2: nearly Dragon's of spoon a harsh call Dragons fans out, they're.
[46:03] Speaker 1: They're they're inconsistent.
[46:05] Speaker 2: Man.
[46:05] Speaker 1: Last year, do you know they beat the Broncos, they
[46:07] Speaker 1: beat the Storm, they beat the Sharks, one or two
[46:10] Speaker 1: other powerhouse sides. They rolled out of the top all
[46:13] Speaker 1: and then just lose and then just lose games that
[46:16] Speaker 1: they had to win. The trill form isn't encouraging, particularly
[46:22] Speaker 1: the result against the Rabbits in the Charity Shield. I'm
[46:26] Speaker 1: going to Tigers. I've got a sense the Tigers and
[46:29] Speaker 1: have a good season. I love the fact that Dewey's
[46:31] Speaker 1: gone into seven and Jerome has gone. You don't going
[46:34] Speaker 1: back to being Robin not Batman, He's gone into the
[46:37] Speaker 1: sixth suit him. I like the Tigers. I like them.
[46:41] Speaker 1: I think I don't think they'll play finals, but I
[46:44] Speaker 1: think they'll be right on the cusp of the eighth
[46:46] Speaker 1: their natural habitat.
[46:47] Speaker 2: Ninth, ninth, ninth, one of the world.
[46:51] Speaker 1: Okay, he's an interesting one we saw last week for
[46:53] Speaker 1: mainly Joey Walsh come on and really he not surprised
[46:59] Speaker 1: but rest a lot of people still a bit raw
[47:01] Speaker 1: around the edges. But he reminded me a lot. He
[47:03] Speaker 1: comes from Union and there was certain aspects of his game.
[47:06] Speaker 1: He's kicking his hands past selection a little bit like
[47:09] Speaker 1: Ricky when he came across from Rabig Union. But Joey
[47:13] Speaker 1: Walsh right at the moment, the starting haves going to
[47:16] Speaker 1: be Jamal Foggety and Luke Brooks by midyear. Will that
[47:19] Speaker 1: be the same partnership or will it be Jamal or
[47:22] Speaker 1: Joey Walsh or Joey Walsh Luke Brooks. What do you think,
[47:25] Speaker 1: let's say, by let's say by September neck In.
[47:30] Speaker 2: My opinion, season, I think it'll I think they'll stick
[47:33] Speaker 2: with Brooksy and Foggerty. I think it'll be and I
[47:36] Speaker 2: think Joey walsh All he's going to be I'm here
[47:38] Speaker 2: and he's going to be on the bench. So I'm
[47:40] Speaker 2: here and he's going to be on that six man
[47:41] Speaker 2: bench given it six man. But I think I think
[47:45] Speaker 2: they'll find a way to use him in another way,
[47:47] Speaker 2: potentially because he's a strong runner. I think he I
[47:50] Speaker 2: think they'll just find a way to put him somewhere.
[47:53] Speaker 1: Like we're just saying about the six man bench there Jack,
[47:55] Speaker 1: he's a perfect example where you want to put him there,
[47:58] Speaker 1: But he needs be playing football if the r'll get involved,
[48:02] Speaker 1: the hurd anything, because I don't think I don't think
[48:06] Speaker 1: the eighteenth and nineteenth man should be in that position
[48:10] Speaker 1: more than two weeks in a row. I just I
[48:12] Speaker 1: don't think you should do it. Well.
[48:13] Speaker 3: Someone said to the end of the day that they're
[48:15] Speaker 3: saying that the utility, the utilities will become more valuable
[48:19] Speaker 3: because that's what they'll have on the they'll have on
[48:21] Speaker 3: the benches, so they can develop. So you've got all
[48:23] Speaker 3: these specialty positions. Suddenly the utilities may get games here
[48:28] Speaker 3: and there, and they might be the ones that actually
[48:31] Speaker 3: might miss the mad chunks of footy that will allow
[48:34] Speaker 3: them to develop so specialty positions, you know, halves, maybe
[48:37] Speaker 3: a back rower, certain centers, wingers. They're saying they're not
[48:41] Speaker 3: going to try and find spots for them on the
[48:42] Speaker 3: bench in the NFL this season. People are saying, so, okay,
[48:46] Speaker 3: that's hard because it's a matter of coaches want to
[48:49] Speaker 3: win comps this year, don't they, And then they're not
[48:52] Speaker 3: really thinking about next year until, of course the next
[48:55] Speaker 3: preseason comes.
[48:56] Speaker 1: So I just think I don't think Joey. I don't
[49:00] Speaker 1: think they can afford to put him in their week in,
[49:02] Speaker 1: week out. He's got to be out there playing football.
[49:04] Speaker 1: As said before, mate, he's still a little bit rawer
[49:07] Speaker 1: in certain areas and he has come across from rugby unions.
[49:10] Speaker 1: He just needs to get his flying time up in
[49:12] Speaker 1: rugby league. Yeah, but I'm with you. There's Jamal and
[49:16] Speaker 1: loop Brooks. Barring injury. You think that a dramatic loss
[49:20] Speaker 1: of form. The Joey's going to have to buy his
[49:22] Speaker 1: body time to mainly play finals. Jacko, what do you
[49:25] Speaker 1: think it's hard?
[49:26] Speaker 3: I think a lot of it, and I'd hate to
[49:28] Speaker 3: say it because I like Turbot, But I think a
[49:30] Speaker 3: lot of it's going to fall on Turbo's health this
[49:32] Speaker 3: year as captain especially, you know you plays to coach
[49:34] Speaker 3: on a bid in the sgy.
[49:35] Speaker 1: Ball Jack Jack mainly got a lot more depth than
[49:38] Speaker 1: they thought they had. What's you on the weekend? The
[49:40] Speaker 1: young guy you guys coach Antony last and large he
[49:44] Speaker 1: was made. He was super impressive going from SG ball
[49:48] Speaker 1: the following week playing in first grade trial.
[49:51] Speaker 2: There's a heap, there's a heap of There was another
[49:52] Speaker 2: boy as well, aj who he went on to the
[49:55] Speaker 2: Santa Zo wing for him in that side. But they
[49:58] Speaker 2: got a heap, a heap of talent in the June.
[50:00] Speaker 1: This one who has the better year? Dylan Brown or
[50:03] Speaker 1: Nico Hines, Oh geez.
[50:05] Speaker 2: You putting me in some ship positions today, I think
[50:07] Speaker 2: I think I think so too.
[50:09] Speaker 1: I think it's Nico. They've there's a there. He's got
[50:13] Speaker 1: to solve that puzzle justin Holbrook as quickly as he can.
[50:17] Speaker 1: You know, whether it's Fletcher Sharp in the seven, center
[50:20] Speaker 1: Smith of the seven, Dylan Brown, they're making noise at
[50:22] Speaker 1: He'll start in the seven. What I've seen in that
[50:25] Speaker 1: trial game against the Dogs he's played mainly right side,
[50:28] Speaker 1: but he's a left side specialist. I think probably the
[50:32] Speaker 1: first half of this season, Dylan's still going to be
[50:34] Speaker 1: find his way.
[50:35] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I agree. I think Nico's I think Nico.
[50:37] Speaker 2: I think Sharks this is their chance for a premiership.
[50:40] Speaker 2: Window like they haven't really lost anyone.
[50:42] Speaker 1: Think they'll top four.
[50:43] Speaker 2: I haven't got him top four. I've got him in
[50:45] Speaker 2: top eight, but I think they can sert Like I
[50:48] Speaker 2: hope they surprised me because I just didn't see enough
[50:50] Speaker 2: last year. Like I know they made a prelim. They
[50:52] Speaker 2: actually did a good job, but I was just quite inconsistent.
[50:55] Speaker 2: I think they've got a They've had this side disquad
[50:57] Speaker 2: for a long time. I think like this is the
[50:59] Speaker 2: Shark time now in the next two years to have
[51:02] Speaker 2: a stab at a premiership.
[51:03] Speaker 1: I really just ripped through this. Five signings are excited
[51:06] Speaker 1: to watch. I've gone number one Shan o' sullivan. He
[51:09] Speaker 1: is a great signing for the Dog simply because he's
[51:11] Speaker 1: going to give him depth. He's a clever player. But mate,
[51:14] Speaker 1: he's going to be a great coach. He's a great investment.
[51:17] Speaker 1: He's going to He's going to do a lot of
[51:18] Speaker 1: work coaching Lachlan Galvin. He's a great pickup, Kay Pierce
[51:22] Speaker 1: Paul excited to watch him. I think he'll do great things.
[51:25] Speaker 1: He's a player on the app, never really going, got
[51:27] Speaker 1: going at Newcastle. I think he would be good there.
[51:29] Speaker 1: Jonah Peasant intrigues me going in. It's going into the
[51:34] Speaker 1: halves here at the eels. Dave for feeder man that
[51:38] Speaker 1: that left side for the bunnies. If they get Dave going,
[51:43] Speaker 1: like you said, Coop, they could be just final certainties.
[51:47] Speaker 1: And Selwyn Cobber I thought, I thought Selwyn has looked
[51:50] Speaker 1: really good in the trol games. They tell me he's
[51:52] Speaker 1: training the house down back in love with the game
[51:55] Speaker 1: and he's just a specimen. Like to see him go, well, yeah.
[51:57] Speaker 2: I got similar to you I had, Jonah, is it
[52:00] Speaker 2: David Ffeeda obviously for obvious reasons, and Selwyn Cobber. I
[52:03] Speaker 2: think the upside it seems like they didn't have to
[52:07] Speaker 2: get a lot to get David and Selwyn at those clubs,
[52:09] Speaker 2: like given that they were probably low on people's priority
[52:13] Speaker 2: list for different reasons at the time. But there's a
[52:15] Speaker 2: lot of upside if you can get the best out
[52:17] Speaker 2: of those two and then the other two I had
[52:19] Speaker 2: was Kobe Heatherington at Manley. I think he's a gun player.
[52:22] Speaker 2: He was really instrumental in the boys up at Brisbane
[52:26] Speaker 2: used to say are hardy trained and like he'd lift
[52:28] Speaker 2: the training standard up there, and they all have a
[52:30] Speaker 2: huge rap on him. So I'm really stoked to serew
[52:32] Speaker 2: he goes at Manley and Leo Thompson at the Bulldogs.
[52:34] Speaker 2: I think he's going to be like one of the
[52:37] Speaker 2: best signings of the year.
[52:38] Speaker 1: Ten weeks out with the calf injury, but that he'll
[52:41] Speaker 1: come back in. He'll be back in for the main games.
[52:44] Speaker 1: The under the radar signing, no one's really spoken about
[52:48] Speaker 1: the unbloke. I think k Dyke's he's gone from the
[52:50] Speaker 1: Sharks to the Bulldogs. That's in a stute signing. He's
[52:53] Speaker 1: a very very very good player, third generation footballer, footy
[52:59] Speaker 1: hair and had a horrible run of injuries, but a
[53:03] Speaker 1: very talented player. I think he'll be a great signing
[53:05] Speaker 1: for the Dogs.
[53:06] Speaker 2: I've got the was it Curtis Moron up at the Titans. Yeah,
[53:10] Speaker 2: he was like yeah, he's good, Yeah, yeah, I got it.
[53:13] Speaker 2: Like under the radar, I talk about Bloody under the radar.
[53:16] Speaker 2: But he did a really good job for the Dogs
[53:18] Speaker 2: last year and they just had too many utilities, Like
[53:21] Speaker 2: nearly the Dogs are riddled with utilities.
[53:23] Speaker 1: So it was good in the trial game against the Dolphins.
[53:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got a lot of great legs, speed through
[53:26] Speaker 2: the middle, worries defenders. So curtis the throat.
[53:29] Speaker 1: Gut signing there, I've gone your mate, d C. Yeah,
[53:33] Speaker 1: I think you will. I think the change olivia anis
[53:36] Speaker 1: the pressure off his shoulders.
[53:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, I've gone the chess man as well. I think DCE.
[53:41] Speaker 2: I mean, if he isn't, we'll take this part out
[53:45] Speaker 2: of the potty through quick storylines. One is Ken Souse
[53:48] Speaker 2: left side attack, live up to the potential we're talking about,
[53:52] Speaker 2: Cody Walker, David Fiddle, Troll, Mitchell, Alex Johnson, Joy Gray
[53:56] Speaker 2: sweeping around the back. So the other one is Dylan
[53:58] Speaker 2: Brown and Lachlan Galvin.
[54:00] Speaker 1: Are they capable of steering the side around the park
[54:02] Speaker 1: and playing their best football? In seven and again, Jonah
[54:06] Speaker 1: Pez spoke about it. Can he live up to the
[54:08] Speaker 1: expectations and push power into the eight?
[54:11] Speaker 2: Jo me to touch on just one? Yeah, because you
[54:14] Speaker 2: gave them all to me at once. I'll start at
[54:16] Speaker 2: the South one first, the left side attack. I think
[54:20] Speaker 2: I think their attacks going to live up to expectations.
[54:22] Speaker 2: I think their biggest thing is going to be defense,
[54:24] Speaker 2: because every team's already licking their lips looking at that side,
[54:27] Speaker 2: and it's the side you want to attack against because
[54:29] Speaker 2: they're not known work ethic and wh Whenever we used
[54:33] Speaker 2: to play against South like those sort of that edge anyway,
[54:37] Speaker 2: was where everyone wanted to attack because you take gas
[54:39] Speaker 2: out of them, but they're not great defenders.
[54:40] Speaker 1: Do you think that was part of why Wayne wanted
[54:42] Speaker 1: to change the kick off all?
[54:45] Speaker 2: Potentially?
[54:45] Speaker 1: Probably. I think there's always a reason we.
[54:47] Speaker 2: Weigh, and I was just wondering what it was I
[54:49] Speaker 2: reckon potentially, But yeah, like I said, rarely do you
[54:53] Speaker 2: ever see an edge that has four X factor players,
[54:58] Speaker 2: Like usually there's one or two the half and the
[55:00] Speaker 2: winger of the half in the back roll half of
[55:02] Speaker 2: the center. But every single player on that side, Alex Johnson,
[55:05] Speaker 2: Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker and Dave Forfeeda, they have all
[55:09] Speaker 2: the X factor Like they could go to another edge
[55:11] Speaker 2: and instantly turn that edge into a real dynamic edge.
[55:14] Speaker 2: So now you've got them all together. You haven't. They're
[55:15] Speaker 2: not surrounded by, like, you know, a real toiler who's
[55:19] Speaker 2: going to lift up and do a lot of the
[55:20] Speaker 2: work for him. They're going to have to really like
[55:22] Speaker 2: improve that side of their game.
[55:24] Speaker 1: I thought it's tell the stunk was good last year.
[55:26] Speaker 1: Kem Murray comes back into side that had blood a
[55:29] Speaker 1: lot of players, which it'll all go well for him.
[55:32] Speaker 3: Spoken, I was going to say to a j w'd
[55:34] Speaker 3: be lick at his lips too for this year. So
[55:36] Speaker 3: he's gonna it looks like if he's obviously, if he
[55:38] Speaker 3: stays injury free, that he's going to break that t
[55:41] Speaker 3: try scoring record. Credible, but you'd hope you'd put a
[55:44] Speaker 3: few more on as well. Get past it the fair
[55:46] Speaker 3: bit like with that edge, you'd be sitting there going, jeez,
[55:48] Speaker 3: I could put if we have that edge for a
[55:50] Speaker 3: couple of years, could put another forty on it.
[55:52] Speaker 1: It breaks up his best number one try score, top
[55:55] Speaker 1: try scorer, that number one Dylan Brown and lockown Galvin.
[56:00] Speaker 1: Let's hold off dealing a little bit bespoken about him,
[56:02] Speaker 1: Lachlan Galvin, do you think at this point Coopy? To me, Coop,
[56:07] Speaker 1: he still doesn't look like a seven just on his football.
[56:10] Speaker 1: I must say this. I think he needs to play
[56:12] Speaker 1: a little straighter. He's sort of playing at the moment
[56:14] Speaker 1: little bit forty five degree. He's sort of skimming across
[56:17] Speaker 1: the defense. I think he probably needs to take it
[56:19] Speaker 1: just to step back, play a little straighter.
[56:21] Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. My big theory is with a lot
[56:24] Speaker 2: of these clubs, they buy people and they put him
[56:26] Speaker 2: in the seven rather than ch and they expect them
[56:29] Speaker 2: to be the player that they're expecting, just like Melbourne
[56:33] Speaker 2: did with Jerome Hughes when he went to seven. Why
[56:36] Speaker 2: wouldn't you just change your attack to suit what you've got.
[56:40] Speaker 2: They don't do it enough. I don't know whether it's
[56:42] Speaker 2: a lack of creativity on certain coaches like Behalf, or
[56:46] Speaker 2: they have a system that they know work, so they
[56:48] Speaker 2: try to get people to bleed into their system and
[56:51] Speaker 2: like they try to get them to develop into their system.
[56:53] Speaker 2: You've got someone who's he might not be a seven,
[56:56] Speaker 2: but you put him in the seven and you just
[56:57] Speaker 2: played his strengths. I feel like that's all we can
[56:59] Speaker 2: ever do.
[57:00] Speaker 1: They might they might do that, but they might have
[57:01] Speaker 1: shown their cards yet. But I'm interesting to watch. Okay,
[57:04] Speaker 1: rookie of the Year, Coop, I got Cooper Bye. Yeah,
[57:06] Speaker 1: I've gone Kurt Donahill, Kurdie.
[57:08] Speaker 2: Donah Here is it really is his first?
[57:11] Speaker 3: I think this might be his second or third year.
[57:13] Speaker 2: Third year, lookie, you gotta play under five games.
[57:15] Speaker 1: I think he played. I think he played less than
[57:17] Speaker 1: five last year.
[57:18] Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure he debuted the year before though. I'm
[57:20] Speaker 3: pretty sure he debuted the year they started from memory,
[57:23] Speaker 3: you didn't do your real I think so.
[57:24] Speaker 1: I don't think he did so Cooper Bye, Yeah, good one, Coup. Yeah,
[57:31] Speaker 1: he's a lot of lot said about him in the
[57:34] Speaker 1: off season. Terrific, young blake, great young bloke, highly intelligent,
[57:39] Speaker 1: big future.
[57:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, he's played thirty eight games for the Dolphins, Cobb,
[57:43] Speaker 3: and he's debuted in twenty thirteen, brother, twenty thirteen, twenty
[57:48] Speaker 3: twenty three, So.
[57:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, good on your dad, and you're the face of
[57:52] Speaker 2: Fox League.
[57:53] Speaker 3: And he's not wrong though. He's a freaking good player.
[57:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, he's played thirty six games, so I could tell
[57:57] Speaker 2: you if he was a good playoff to thirty six games, Okay,
[58:00] Speaker 2: Coop Dalian winner. I got our man, Brandon Smith. Oh yeah, Brandon,
[58:05] Speaker 2: I got the cheese. I think particularly if that South
[58:09] Speaker 2: Sydney side can get going, I think being able to
[58:12] Speaker 2: a hooker, being able to play off the back of
[58:13] Speaker 2: quick play the balls from their back rollers Cam Murray,
[58:16] Speaker 2: I think it'd be exciting. I want to see Southco good.
[58:20] Speaker 2: I really do want to see Sosco good.
[58:21] Speaker 1: Really want to see Brandon go good. I've touched on
[58:27] Speaker 1: my Mitch Moses, coach of the I've gone Josh. I've
[58:30] Speaker 1: seen in the off season, the way they played in
[58:33] Speaker 1: the break, the way he holds himself. Everything I'm going
[58:36] Speaker 1: to get Josh Hana a little bit of self interest, sure,
[58:39] Speaker 1: but I think I'm confident he can do that.
[58:42] Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got I got the Wayne playing Wayne Bennett. Yeah,
[58:46] Speaker 2: Wayne Bennett, you're mad Shagger. I got him. I think
[58:49] Speaker 2: he's the one that's if he I think it'll be
[58:52] Speaker 2: his He's done a lot in the game, but I
[58:55] Speaker 2: think it'll nearly be one of his best achievements if
[58:57] Speaker 2: he can do something with this South side, who have
[59:00] Speaker 2: a lot of players who people doubt or like they're inconsistent.
[59:04] Speaker 2: If he can galvanize them all together, I think it'd
[59:06] Speaker 2: be Wayne's best victory.
[59:07] Speaker 1: He's eighty one two is one.
[59:10] Speaker 3: No I think he's like seventy. I think he's twenty
[59:12] Speaker 3: years younger, older than Trish, which I get my gauge
[59:15] Speaker 3: off because he's born a weird person. He's borne fifty.
[59:18] Speaker 1: I've got greend final teams who meet a ground final day.
[59:22] Speaker 1: I've gone the Bulldogs and the Panthers have my Grand Final.
[59:26] Speaker 1: I like what I've seen in the Dogs in the
[59:27] Speaker 1: trial games. Their defense has been superb. Their left side
[59:31] Speaker 1: was beautiful. Burton's got a hamstring injury, but the left
[59:35] Speaker 1: side he's just found his ball playing just his past
[59:40] Speaker 1: selection in the timing of how he lets it go
[59:43] Speaker 1: to his outside man, so Burton a couple of steps
[59:46] Speaker 1: to kick out a couple of steps onto Crichton. It's
[59:49] Speaker 1: a great that left side combination is the best in
[59:51] Speaker 1: the comp I've got.
[59:52] Speaker 2: This is going to sound boring as shit for our listeners,
[59:55] Speaker 2: but Penroth and Storm, I've got them. I think Storm
[59:58] Speaker 2: having the last two they've lost, they haven't really lost
[1:00:00] Speaker 2: whole heap of players. I know, perhaps Nelson and Ellie
[1:00:03] Speaker 2: KATOI is going to be out yep, but just hearing
[1:00:07] Speaker 2: what I'm hearing from like Sewer and how motivated those
[1:00:11] Speaker 2: lads are particularly like they've hurt for a couple of
[1:00:13] Speaker 2: years in those Grand Final losses. I think they're going
[1:00:16] Speaker 2: to come back and I think Penrith like I'm tipping
[1:00:19] Speaker 2: Penrith for a pretty successful year. I think like they've
[1:00:22] Speaker 2: got a lot of motivation to draw on and like
[1:00:25] Speaker 2: they they've they've drawn on it when they haven't had
[1:00:28] Speaker 2: any reason to go back to back to back to
[1:00:30] Speaker 2: back before. So I think they're really going to have
[1:00:32] Speaker 2: a good year.
[1:00:32] Speaker 1: Well ow Fox Sports predicted promo guy Promo guy Charlie Lambert,
[1:00:37] Speaker 1: who's champion does all the great promos. He said when
[1:00:40] Speaker 1: he turned up at Panthers training, he said, maye they
[1:00:42] Speaker 1: hed their heads on. Oh really yeah, that says a lot. Well, boys,
[1:00:47] Speaker 1: we better get up there and pack our bags. We're
[1:00:50] Speaker 1: about to We're about to jump on that jet off
[1:00:53] Speaker 1: to to Vegas, Vice San Francisco Economy.
[1:00:57] Speaker 2: You blokes, are you going? Business?

[1:01:09] Speaker 2: What happened to you? Mate? What happened? What happened to you?
[1:01:12] Speaker 1: I just left you Batler's behind.
[1:01:14] Speaker 2: No, but I mean what happened to you? Used to
[1:01:15] Speaker 2: be look at you. It used to be the face
[1:01:17] Speaker 2: of the working class. Now you're gonna be out there
[1:01:19] Speaker 2: sipping champagne and.
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: Owner change mate mate on Jerry John's. Well, you know,
[1:01:26] Speaker 1: I and I said, Now, I didn't say this to you,
[1:01:28] Speaker 1: but I've really said to Jack. I said, he Jack
[1:01:29] Speaker 1: In a couple of hours into the flight over there,
[1:01:31] Speaker 1: I'll swap your seats just to give you a bit
[1:01:33] Speaker 1: of it.
[1:01:33] Speaker 3: I don't think you can do it. I'm pretty certain
[1:01:35] Speaker 3: you can't.
[1:01:36] Speaker 2: Sure I bought the seat I can do as I'm
[1:01:38] Speaker 2: pretty sure you didn't.
[1:01:39] Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure they're not be covered by your fox workflace.
[1:01:42] Speaker 1: What about if I bring down the expensive champagne.
[1:01:44] Speaker 2: It comes down with us the bottle of Maui and
[1:01:47] Speaker 2: my dressing gown on. Yeah, but are you actually going
[1:01:50] Speaker 2: to swell with Jack? Did you say?
[1:01:52] Speaker 1: Yeah? I'll give him an hour hour or two? Yive,
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: you're right, Yeah, I got little legs.
[1:01:56] Speaker 2: I don't need it. And plus I'll be I'll be zoonked.
[1:01:59] Speaker 1: I will you wait?
[1:02:01] Speaker 2: No, I'm serious?
[1:02:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, good, okay, just so long as you just so
[1:02:04] Speaker 1: long as.
[1:02:04] Speaker 2: You don't look down, and I can see you wanted
[1:02:06] Speaker 2: me to turn it off off time I wouldn't turn
[1:02:09] Speaker 2: it off, and I'm ready to turn it off.
[1:02:10] Speaker 1: We've got to get the airport in one hour.
[1:02:12] Speaker 2: Just go one hour.
