[0:00] SPEAKER_00: Hey girlies, it's Daniela, your BFF, with relatable girl talk and crazy dating stories.
[0:05] SPEAKER_00: Are you ready to chat?
[0:07] SPEAKER_00: I'm calling.
[0:08] SPEAKER_00: Hey girly pop, girly pop, da-da-da-da-can's stop.
[0:12] SPEAKER_00: You know I like that girly pop.
[0:14] SPEAKER_00: Remember that NSYNC song?
[0:16] SPEAKER_00: Sorry, that was so pitchy.
[0:18] SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, so oh, fun fact.
[0:21] SPEAKER_00: One time I auditioned for American Idol and I was so nervous and I was so terrible.
[0:27] SPEAKER_00: I freaking bombed it.
[0:28] SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, it was so bad.
[0:31] SPEAKER_00: And then one time I got an audition for the voice.
[0:34] SPEAKER_00: I auditioned like online and like a video, and I got a callback to go audition IRL.
[0:40] SPEAKER_00: I got so nervous.
[0:41] SPEAKER_00: I bombed it again.
[0:42] SPEAKER_00: I did before he cheats.
[0:43] SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
[0:45] SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
[0:46] SPEAKER_00: I just went to PTSD from that, Bestie.
[0:48] SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, let's not talk about that right now.
[0:50] SPEAKER_00: Bestie, how are you today?
[0:53] SPEAKER_00: Yes, you were supposed to answer me just now because I care.
[0:56] SPEAKER_00: I care.
[0:56] SPEAKER_00: Sister, how are you today?
[0:59] SPEAKER_00: Sister, no matter how you answered, I just want to let you know that I'm with you.
[1:03] SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking of you.
[1:04] SPEAKER_00: I care about you, and I'm celebrating you.
[1:06] SPEAKER_00: Even if you're in a season where you feel like you have nothing to celebrate, or maybe your friendships and your life are not going the way that they that you would hoped, and so you're not being celebrated.
[1:16] SPEAKER_00: Sister, I'm celebrating you, and low-key, you know, who's always celebrating you is the Lord.
[1:23] SPEAKER_00: Okay, anyway, so that's not what I want to chat about today.
[1:26] SPEAKER_00: Actually, what I want to chat about, let's just get right into it, Bestie, because I posted about this on my story recently, and it resonated with so many of the girlies.
[1:35] SPEAKER_00: And basically, what I posted was that I have ri I've recently seen one of my favorite influencers that I follow, who's a very tiny, tiny gal.
[1:45] SPEAKER_00: She's one of those gals that could have been or maybe was, and I just don't know about it, like a supermodel.
[1:50] SPEAKER_00: Like she's super tall and super tiny, like definitely a a size zero, um, a gorgeous, gorgeous gal.
[1:57] SPEAKER_00: Um, but I was watching a fashion haul of hers the other day, and Bessie, she literally had edited her body in the video, and yes, you can do that, um, down to even tinier than what she naturally was.
[2:10] SPEAKER_00: And it I I noticed because what so when you edit your body in a video, if you're not careful, you can totally tell.
[2:19] SPEAKER_00: Like, you can see where I often see it on girls when they do it, is look at their elbows because that's on the sides of their waist.
[2:26] SPEAKER_00: And so, like, this gal didn't double check her video, I guess, and she it was just so extreme, and also that's not what she looks like in real life.
[2:34] SPEAKER_00: And girly, it just got me thinking how man, what a bummer it is when you see something like that.
[2:43] SPEAKER_00: And here's why to me personally it's a bummer because it's like we can't possibly, us as viewers, as we're scrolling and we're watching stuff on social media and on TV, there's no way that like most somebody who doesn't edit a lot in their life would wouldn't know that that video was edited.
[3:04] SPEAKER_00: And so they're seeing this girl who looks so tiny, and it we it just it's defeating because you're like, oh my gosh, I I will never look like that.
[3:14] SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm just speaking for myself.
[3:15] SPEAKER_00: Like when I'm seeing these, these, you know, really tiny people and such, like I guess what I'm trying to say is, why are we doing this?
[3:24] SPEAKER_00: Why are we editing ourselves down?
[3:27] SPEAKER_00: And I I want to tell you something.
[3:28] SPEAKER_00: So I grew up in the entertainment industry, right?
[3:30] SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I just have had like a lot of sneak peek into what goes down.
[3:35] SPEAKER_00: So, of course, most people edit their bodies on social media, but let me tell you something, sister.
[3:40] SPEAKER_00: When you see like a swimsuit ad, or you see even just like a jeans ad, they are editing those girls' bodies.
[3:48] SPEAKER_00: And you would not know it by looking at it.
[3:51] SPEAKER_00: Even they will edit the lead actress in major motion pictures, and you would never think it because you're like, wait, you can edit a girl's body throughout an entire film, throughout an entire movie.
[4:01] SPEAKER_00: Yes, sister.
[4:02] SPEAKER_00: Yes, most media that you consume, whether it's online or you go to the movie theater or you're watching your TV, is edited.
[4:13] SPEAKER_00: The bodies, the faces.
[4:14] SPEAKER_00: There are literally contracts written into a lot of celebrities' contracts when they book even reality shows, TV shows, movies, whatever, that they have to be shot with a soft filter, filter, or that they have to be edited with a filter in post-production.
[4:31] SPEAKER_00: What you see on TV is so, or in any media is often not real.
[4:37] SPEAKER_00: And I think what's happening and what's frustrating to me, why this really bothered me the other day, is like, okay, great.
[4:43] SPEAKER_00: An another piece of media that is not real.
[4:48] SPEAKER_00: When you see somebody in real life, they often look so different than they do online.
[4:52] SPEAKER_00: And like I'm sure people feel that when they see me in real life too.
[4:56] SPEAKER_00: Cause like you just look different when you're online.
[4:58] SPEAKER_00: Like the camera catches different angles of your face.
[5:01] SPEAKER_00: Usually you just like look a little better on camera, or at least I feel like I do.
[5:06] SPEAKER_00: And I've had people say that to me before.
[5:09] SPEAKER_00: Not in the recent days, like not as like ever since I've started creating content, but um, like when I've just like met people in real life, you know, maybe they saw me on like LinkedIn or Facebook or something, and they're like, you look different.
[5:22] SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh my gosh.
[5:24] SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's kind of an insult, but whatever.
[5:27] SPEAKER_00: Um, don't care.
[5:28] SPEAKER_00: Um, so anyway, all I have to say is, sister, you are so beautiful, and I don't want you sitting there comparing your IRL self to someone's highly edited self.
[5:41] SPEAKER_00: Even when you're watching, I remember reading an article about Megan Fox, like, I don't know if it was like 15 years ago.
[5:46] SPEAKER_00: What was the first series of movies that she was in that like changed her career?
[5:50] SPEAKER_00: Term not Terminator.
[5:52] SPEAKER_00: Uh, what's that big one?
[5:53] SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
[5:54] SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm talking about.
[5:55] SPEAKER_00: It's like the one she got famous for.
[5:57] SPEAKER_00: I remember reading something about how her body was edited in that movie.
[6:01] SPEAKER_00: We've they've been doing this for years.
[6:03] SPEAKER_00: Hollywood has been doing this for years.
[6:05] SPEAKER_00: And like, I get wanting to look your best, like when you post online and stuff, like totally.
[6:09] SPEAKER_00: I totally understand that 100%.
[6:12] SPEAKER_00: And like creating and posting on social media is like an art, and you want it to be cinematic and you want to be beautiful.
[6:16] SPEAKER_00: I get it, I get it.
[6:17] SPEAKER_00: I'm not hating on any of that.
[6:19] SPEAKER_00: What I am like, well, I was so bummed because I was like, okay, so you're already a size zero, and now you're editing yourself to be see-through, basically.
[6:27] SPEAKER_00: Like, what are we doing here?
[6:28] SPEAKER_00: And it just made me think, it made me take a step back and think about.
[6:32] SPEAKER_00: I know I don't share this part about myself online, but um, or at least on my Instagram, but I girly, I grew up in the entertainment industry.
[6:41] SPEAKER_00: I also grew up um a heavy gal, a heavy young gal, um, like in middle school and then a lot of high school.
[6:49] SPEAKER_00: And so I was always met with this really frustrating self self vision, that's not the right word, self-perception.
[6:59] SPEAKER_00: Um, all of my friends were like tiny for the most part, and I wasn't, so I always felt like something was wrong with me.
[7:06] SPEAKER_00: Um, like I was the different one.
[7:09] SPEAKER_00: Um, and I would go on these auditions and I'd literally have casting directors.
[7:15] SPEAKER_00: I even had this vocal coach one time, Gary Katona, boy bye.
[7:19] SPEAKER_00: Boy bye.
[7:20] SPEAKER_00: Okay.
[7:21] SPEAKER_00: I walked into his um mansion with my mom, and uh he told me he didn't even hear me sing, and he said, Go lose 10 pounds and then come back to me.
[7:33] SPEAKER_00: What?
[7:33] SPEAKER_00: I literally want to punch a beep wall right now.
[7:37] SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I had to bleep myself because I can't, I shouldn't be swearing.
[7:40] SPEAKER_00: Although Lord knows I do.
[7:43] SPEAKER_00: So um, but I don't want to swear in front of the girlies.
[7:49] SPEAKER_00: Or do I?
[7:50] SPEAKER_00: Um, anyway, okay, I just I don't want to have to mark this episode as explicit, okay?
[7:55] SPEAKER_00: So we're just gonna, you know how one okay, I don't know if you know this, but if you have any swear words in your podcast or anything, you have to mark it as explicit.
[8:03] SPEAKER_00: We ain't doing that here, girlfriend.
[8:06] SPEAKER_00: Okay, so anyway, I grew up in this really negative headspace, and then um that really carried into a lot of my life, and I had an ED and it was not good.
[8:19] SPEAKER_00: I did not love myself.
[8:20] SPEAKER_00: I missed out on a lot of fun opportunities in life, even like pool parties or just um like not even going, right?
[8:26] SPEAKER_00: Like not even going to the pool party, but then um oh my gosh, I have this vivid and vivid oh my gosh, I have this I have this vivid memory of me at limited two, and I had to go to like a pool party in like fifth grade, and I was shopping the clearance rack and I found this bathing suit and I thought it was so cute.
[8:43] SPEAKER_00: It was this polka dot one piece, but I remember thinking like I wish I had a different body to wear this, and I don't even think I ended up going to the pool party, or if I did, I think I wore like shorts over it or a t-shirt, and I just anyway, I just really struggled a lot y when I was younger uh mentally, and even in my early 20s, like 100%.
[9:03] SPEAKER_00: Um, and I like missed out on enjoying life's moments um when I was in a bathing suit, or even when it was just summer and I had to wear shorts.
[9:13] SPEAKER_00: I remember I didn't wear shorts for the longest time in my life.
[9:18] SPEAKER_00: I don't even think that I wore them, I mean, like for the longest time, sister, because I just really struggled with my body and um feeling good in it.
[9:28] SPEAKER_00: And the problem was for me as well.
[9:31] SPEAKER_00: I was comparing myself to all these people that I saw in the magazines, on the big screen, on TV.
[9:38] SPEAKER_00: Everybody was so tiny, and I was not.
[9:41] SPEAKER_00: And I do feel like media has shifted a little bit, like to be more body inclusive, which thank God, praise the Lord, hallelujah.
[9:48] SPEAKER_00: But especially like if you grew up in the 90s like me, it was real brutal for us.
[9:52] SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's still brutal, but like it was real brutal.
[9:56] SPEAKER_00: Um, and for so for me personally, it's a very personal thing.
[10:00] SPEAKER_00: I was constantly comparing myself to these models that I'd see on the magazines and in TV, and even on like, you know, like Disney Channel and stuff, like whatever it was, or definitely the rom-coms.
[10:12] SPEAKER_00: And so for me, it's a very personal thing.
[10:15] SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, you have control over what you post on social media, and I'm just not a huge fan of like editing our bodies.
[10:26] SPEAKER_00: Um, and I just don't love that.
[10:29] SPEAKER_00: I don't love that that's what we're seeing and that we're that's what we're consuming so much of.
[10:34] SPEAKER_00: Um, because it makes us a lot of times we don't know it's edited, so then it makes us feel bad.
[10:40] SPEAKER_00: Um, and we shouldn't, because there is so much more to life than what freaking size we are, and I know that that sounds so cliche.
[10:50] SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm one of those bodies that fluctuates big time.
[10:53] SPEAKER_00: Like I could be like on a healthy streak and like working out, and I could now that I'm older, I don't know why it's like I've gone in reverse.
[11:01] SPEAKER_00: I'm able to like um my body just kind of like takes well to that, and I will like lose a few pounds without even like I'm not I never work out hard or anything like that.
[11:12] SPEAKER_00: But sister, the moment I start like eating like junk food and stuff, I will gain weight super fast.
[11:18] SPEAKER_00: And like that's not a bad thing or a good thing, it just is what it is, it's how my body works.
[11:21] SPEAKER_00: And so like I will fluctuate, like literally what without even trying.
[11:25] SPEAKER_00: Like one month I will literally be 10 10 pounds heavier than the next, and I will just go back and forth.
[11:30] SPEAKER_00: I don't know if other girlies are like that or if it's just me.
[11:33] SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's just like every month is just a new surprise.
[11:36] SPEAKER_00: I don't know, you know, what what shorts are gonna fit, what shorts are not gonna fit.
[11:40] SPEAKER_00: And it happens pretty quickly to me.
[11:42] SPEAKER_00: So, and I I I I don't diet, I don't work out consistently.
[11:46] SPEAKER_00: One thing I do try and do is just walk every day.
[11:49] SPEAKER_00: I have to, because I have aussies that we have to walk, and I really enjoy walking a lot, especially in the sunshine.
[11:55] SPEAKER_00: It's just like so, so soul-filling to me.
[12:00] SPEAKER_00: Anyway, that to say, like, I just why can't we just exist and love our lives and be in our bodies?
[12:06] SPEAKER_00: And like, I'm never gonna have a six-pack.
[12:10] SPEAKER_00: That's never gonna be me.
[12:11] SPEAKER_00: I'm always gonna have a little roll on my tummy, or maybe sometimes a bigger roll.
[12:15] SPEAKER_00: It's just the way that it is.
[12:17] SPEAKER_00: Um, and I like that's like why can't can we just be happy with the way that we look?
[12:24] SPEAKER_00: I um, you know, not to get too personal, but here we are.
[12:28] SPEAKER_00: I've always been very self-conscious of my legs, especially like my knees.
[12:33] SPEAKER_00: Like, I have this little fat pocket on the inside of both of my knees.
[12:37] SPEAKER_00: I can't believe I'm sharing this with you.
[12:39] SPEAKER_00: This is so embarrassing.
[12:41] SPEAKER_00: Actually, it's not because I love my body.
[12:43] SPEAKER_00: Am I right?
[12:44] SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying, sister.
[12:45] SPEAKER_00: Why, like being healthy, of course, is a good thing, right?
[12:48] SPEAKER_00: Like, we need to take care of ourselves and we need to love ourselves.
[12:52] SPEAKER_00: And part of self-love is like taking good care of yourself and all the things and taking our vitamins and getting our sleep and all that, but like we're not supposed to be perfect.
[13:02] SPEAKER_00: And I think that that's what I'm getting at here is what you're seeing online, what you're seeing in movies, what you're seeing in TV, what you're seeing in magazines, what you're seeing on these ads.
[13:09] SPEAKER_00: Girl, oh my gosh, one time I did an ad for this, I forget what what it was.
[13:13] SPEAKER_00: Um, I did it like a social media ad for this company.
[13:16] SPEAKER_00: I literally saw the final that they went with.
[13:19] SPEAKER_00: They edited my arms to look smaller without my permission.
[13:23] SPEAKER_00: But a lot of times when you submit your content for the ads or whatever, like that's it.
[13:28] SPEAKER_00: Like, you don't get that kind of say.
[13:30] SPEAKER_00: Um, and so it's just, I would, and like, I was like, are you kidding me?
[13:34] SPEAKER_00: That's literally insane.
[13:35] SPEAKER_00: I don't even think it was like the ad wasn't even about arms.
[13:39] SPEAKER_00: I don't remember what it was, but so weird.
[13:41] SPEAKER_00: I wish I remembered what it was.
[13:43] SPEAKER_00: Um, anyway, sister, you are so beautiful, and when you are at home and you are scrolling or you're watching something and you are tempted to compare yourself to somebody else, I just want to remind you that it is probably not real.
[13:58] SPEAKER_00: You know how when we were growing up, like tabloids were big, and you'd be in the supermarket and you'd see like, supermarket, who says that?
[14:06] SPEAKER_00: You'd be at the grocery store.
[14:07] SPEAKER_00: Um, like I'd be at Albertons, and you'd see, of course, all these flawless like models on the magazines, but then you'd also like the tabloids where it was like these pictures of these stars like at the beach and their hair was a mess and they didn't look like the way that you see them, like on TV.
[14:23] SPEAKER_00: Sister, that's just because those were probably real photos, unedited photos of those celebrities because the tabloids aren't going to edit them because they want the celebs to look quote unquote bad to show a quote unquote bad angle when really that's just who they are, and they're getting they're getting uh they're get iting, they're getting edit ah, they're they're getting edited in their other stuff that they're in, their movies and whatever.
[14:50] SPEAKER_00: And it's just not that like you know what I'm saying, like the tabloids were real, probably, and like but at the time we thought, like, oh, they've let themselves go, or oh my gosh, what a terrible angle, or oh my gosh, she's gained so much weight since this.
[15:05] SPEAKER_00: It's like, no, it was probably her real self, which is awesome because news freaking flash, we are freaking real.
[15:14] SPEAKER_00: It makes me so mad.
[15:16] SPEAKER_00: It makes me so mad, like we are just existing and we're just doing our best.
[15:21] SPEAKER_00: Um the thing is too, people will be like, I I could see the argument of like, um, okay, plastic surgery, filler, Botox, all that stuff, right?
[15:29] SPEAKER_00: It does not mat like, well, I shouldn't say it does not matter.
[15:31] SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, it doesn't matter.
[15:32] SPEAKER_00: That's my stance.
[15:33] SPEAKER_00: It does not matter because if you see somebody in real life that has Botox, filler, plastic surgery, whatever, they still look like an imperfect human because we are all imperfect humans.
[15:45] SPEAKER_00: There's no amount of Botox, filler, or plastic surgery that can make you look flawless.
[15:50] SPEAKER_00: There's just not.
[15:51] SPEAKER_00: But when you edit yourself online, you can make yourself flawless because you can edit down every little detail.
[15:57] SPEAKER_00: And yes, there's an app that does this, and um, there's actually so many apps that do this.
[16:03] SPEAKER_00: Um, but you can literally fine-tune every piece of your body to make it look exactly like what you want.
[16:11] SPEAKER_00: And don't ask for the app, girly.
[16:12] SPEAKER_00: I'm not telling you because we aren't editing our bodies.
[16:15] SPEAKER_00: This is unedited girl summer.
[16:18] SPEAKER_00: Bessie, you're not the only one that looks like you do.
[16:22] SPEAKER_00: Like that looks like the way you do.
[16:24] SPEAKER_00: But then I could see you scrolling online or watching TV, whatever, and then you feel like you're the only one that looks like that.
[16:29] SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, sister.
[16:32] SPEAKER_00: No.
[16:35] SPEAKER_00: We're all just trying to do our best and feel our best and look our best, and that's enough because we are enough.
[16:42] SPEAKER_00: And sister, not to get all biblical on you, but there's a verse in the Bible that says that you were fearfully and wonderfully made and God knit you together in your mother's womb before any of your days came to be.
[16:56] SPEAKER_00: So if there's any doubt in your mind that like you were made, like why you were made a certain way, sisters it's for a very intentional reason and purpose, and that goes for like your soul too, and your passions, and your hobbies, and your talents.
[17:11] SPEAKER_00: You're such a special girl.
[17:13] SPEAKER_00: Like you're literally the only one of you.
[17:15] SPEAKER_00: What what is that statistic?
[17:17] SPEAKER_00: The chances of you actually becoming like a human and being born on the on this earth, or like the quest or I'm sorry, the um chances of you actually like forming in your mother's womb is like and it actually being you is one in four hundred million because that's the different combinations and all the things that have to go right when your parents are creating you.
[17:40] SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, I felt like I just never mind.
[17:43] SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, went into I can't say this, see, on the pod.
[17:49] SPEAKER_00: Went into making love ed.
[17:50] SPEAKER_00: Did you know that my mom pulled me out of making love ed?
[17:53] SPEAKER_00: So I didn't know what um you know what was until I was 18.
[17:58] SPEAKER_00: So I found out at a girl's sleepover.
[18:00] SPEAKER_00: Um, one of the girls was talking about it, and I was like, what are you talking about?
[18:04] SPEAKER_00: That sounds crazy.
[18:07] SPEAKER_00: And everybody looked at me, and I was there must have been 20 girls there.
[18:11] SPEAKER_00: I was so embarrassed that no one told me.
[18:16] SPEAKER_00: Anyway, where are we?
[18:18] SPEAKER_00: Where are we at now?
[18:19] SPEAKER_00: Love yourself, sister.
[18:21] SPEAKER_00: And also, I just want to tell you, you look better than you think you look.
[18:25] SPEAKER_00: You do.
[18:26] SPEAKER_00: No one's looking at that one small thing that you think that they are, and also no one cares.
[18:32] SPEAKER_00: And you know what's so much better than overanalyzing yourself is living in the moment, being with your friend, having fun, being on the beach, enjoying the salt water, enjoying the wind in your hair, enjoying that beverage, enjoying that food, living your life.
[18:51] SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, what you have at the end of at literally at the end of the day is your memories.
[18:57] SPEAKER_00: And you will either remember how inside your head that you were because you didn't like the way that you looked, or you're gonna remember how much fun you had.
[19:06] SPEAKER_00: And you should do the second, sister.
[19:08] SPEAKER_00: And also, like I've been through this and I've been there.
[19:10] SPEAKER_00: I honestly, I was trying not to get too dark.
[19:12] SPEAKER_00: I spent most of my life hating my body.
[19:17] SPEAKER_00: I really struggled with it, sister.
[19:18] SPEAKER_00: It was probably the biggest overall arching thing that I struggled with in my life.
[19:23] SPEAKER_00: Growing up trying to make it in the entertainment industry is like not for the faint of heart.
[19:28] SPEAKER_00: And then also when you're a girl who was considered overweight and um, you know, was in that journey.
[19:36] SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was it was very, very hard, and I really struggled a lot.
[19:41] SPEAKER_00: Um, especially too in high school and middle school.

[19:58] SPEAKER_00: This is why I'm so glad I did not I stopped like trying to be a singer.
[20:02] SPEAKER_00: Cause like I'm one of those people, like one of my bestest friends, she has an amazing voice, and she can like have like have been on a roller coaster all day screaming and still sing flawlessly.
[20:14] SPEAKER_00: Me, if I've been talking, like my pitch is gone.
[20:17] SPEAKER_00: Anyway, that doesn't even matter.
[20:19] SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, God didn't give me that, He didn't give me that blessing, and that's fine.
[20:23] SPEAKER_00: Whatever, God.
