[0:17] Speaker 1: I'm Kristen. Tonight, you are going to imagine what it's
[0:23] Speaker 1: like to be a fluffy alpaca living on a vast
[0:28] Speaker 1: branch full of other farm animals. After a pleasant day
[0:35] Speaker 1: of grazing and playing with your friends, you're feeling a
[0:40] Speaker 1: little tired, so let's get ready for tonight's sleepy adventure.
[0:49] Speaker 1: Make sure you're comfortable and close your eyes and imagine
[0:56] Speaker 1: yourself slowly transforming into a snuggly, wooly alpaca. Alpacas like
[1:19] Speaker 1: you were originally pack animals with your lama cousins in
[1:25] Speaker 1: South America. Your body is smaller than a lama's, but
[1:32] Speaker 1: you are bigger than most goats, and your thick, plushy
[1:38] Speaker 1: hair is called fleece. This fleece keeps your nice and
[1:45] Speaker 1: warm during the colder months. Over time, people started to
[1:53] Speaker 1: use chunky alpaca fleece to spin into yarn for knitting
[1:59] Speaker 1: and weaving. It's even softer than the wool from a sheep,
[2:08] Speaker 1: so every year before summer, alpacas have their thick coats removed.
[2:18] Speaker 1: It's just like getting a haircut, one that makes you
[2:22] Speaker 1: nice and cool for the warm summer months. Alpaca fleece
[2:30] Speaker 1: comes in many colors, shades of brown, black, and white,
[2:37] Speaker 1: along with lots of fun combinations and patterns. Just like people,
[2:46] Speaker 1: alpacas have their own unique features. Some have cute, chubby
[2:54] Speaker 1: cheeks and some have larger and pointier ears. These differences
[3:04] Speaker 1: make life so much more interesting. Imagine how boring it
[3:12] Speaker 1: would be if every person and every alpaca looked exactly
[3:19] Speaker 1: the same. Did you know that when you were a
[3:26] Speaker 1: baby alpaca, you were called a korea. You are so
[3:34] Speaker 1: tiny and cute. Now you are quickly growing up and
[3:41] Speaker 1: you are becoming a very strong and smart alpaca. On
[3:48] Speaker 1: the ranch where you live, you share the land with
[3:52] Speaker 1: a few lanky yamas, some goofy goats and shy sheep,
[4:01] Speaker 1: and a bunch of clucking chickens. Sometimes you want to
[4:09] Speaker 1: play with the horses and donkeys, but they usually don't
[4:15] Speaker 1: feel like playing, and that's okay. You all get along
[4:23] Speaker 1: well with each other and enjoy spending your days together
[4:28] Speaker 1: without any cares or worries. Living on the ranch, you
[4:36] Speaker 1: are respected by the other animals. Even though you and
[4:42] Speaker 1: your other alpaca friends are very clean, you sometimes enjoy
[4:49] Speaker 1: rolling around on the dusty grown together. The cool earth
[4:56] Speaker 1: makes you feel so refreshed. Sometimes, after a few hours
[5:04] Speaker 1: of running and playing, when the sun is beating down,
[5:10] Speaker 1: you might get tired and find a comfy place to
[5:15] Speaker 1: take an afternoon nap, so you lie on your side
[5:22] Speaker 1: with your long legs stretched out. This allows you to
[5:30] Speaker 1: soak up more heat from the warm sun. You love
[5:37] Speaker 1: to spend time with your herd, especially when you play together,
[5:44] Speaker 1: chasing each other and jumping over tall bales of hay.
[5:51] Speaker 1: Not only do you play with your herd friends and
[5:55] Speaker 1: other farm animals, but you also get to hang out
[5:59] Speaker 1: with the humans that live and work on the ranch.
[6:06] Speaker 1: You appreciate your humans because they take good care of you.
[6:14] Speaker 1: They feed you, brush your hair, trim your toenails, and
[6:21] Speaker 1: keep your teeth nice and clean. You especially like when
[6:28] Speaker 1: they feed you yummy treats like apples, turnips, and broccoli.
[6:37] Speaker 1: When the humans scratch your neck and back, it feels
[6:44] Speaker 1: so good. In turn, you like to show them your
[6:51] Speaker 1: affection by gently bringing your face up close to theirs
[6:58] Speaker 1: and offering a gentle nuzzle. Everyone admires your large, gentle
[7:06] Speaker 1: eyes and long eyelashes. There would make your face so adorable.
[7:16] Speaker 1: Besides playing and napping, one of your favorite things to
[7:22] Speaker 1: do all day is eating. Being a nerbifore someone who
[7:31] Speaker 1: only eats plants, you don't eat meat or eggs. You
[7:39] Speaker 1: love to munch on fresh hay and tall grasses, as
[7:47] Speaker 1: well as rich green leaves, tree bark, and plant stems,
[7:55] Speaker 1: which you digest easily with your special chambered stomach. Humans
[8:05] Speaker 1: only have one stomach chamber, so that makes their digestion
[8:11] Speaker 1: completely different. Because of your special stomach, you also need
[8:19] Speaker 1: a lot of fresh water to help digest your food
[8:25] Speaker 1: and keep you fully hydrated. Also, unlike humans, you only
[8:35] Speaker 1: need about four to five hours of sleep a night.
[8:42] Speaker 1: This is when your body and mind get to fully
[8:47] Speaker 1: relax and recharge for the next day. Having a good
[8:55] Speaker 1: night's sleep is very important to keep you healthy and happy,
[9:02] Speaker 1: but you spend many more hours resting and doing calming
[9:09] Speaker 1: things As an alpaca. You are happy most of the time.
[9:19] Speaker 1: Sometimes you might get a little scared of doing new
[9:24] Speaker 1: things or meeting new friends, but that's okay as long
[9:32] Speaker 1: as you remember that your other herd friends are always
[9:38] Speaker 1: there to keep you safe and secure. You also have
[9:44] Speaker 1: friendly herding dogs which are trained to protect you throughout
[9:51] Speaker 1: the day and night. The sun is setting now and
[10:01] Speaker 1: the day will soon be turning into night. While munching
[10:10] Speaker 1: on your evening snack of sweet cruny carrots, you notice
[10:17] Speaker 1: that the sky is swirling from blue to a deep purple.
[10:26] Speaker 1: The air has cooled quite a bit, so you'll be
[10:30] Speaker 1: ready to head to your warm barn soon. As the
[10:37] Speaker 1: moon and stars begin to peek through the wide, stretchy clouds,
[10:44] Speaker 1: two of the herding dogs that work on the ranch
[10:49] Speaker 1: start to gather you and the other alpacas. These beautiful
[10:57] Speaker 1: dogs are your personal guardians who keep watch while you sleep.
[11:06] Speaker 1: You're so grateful for them. Once you enter the barn,
[11:13] Speaker 1: you notice the soothing sounds of the night horses in
[11:21] Speaker 1: their stalls, breathing deeply, pigs softly snorting, and hens rhythmically
[11:33] Speaker 1: clucking altogether. Your favorite sound is the sheep and their
[11:43] Speaker 1: lambs quietly whispering bah to each other outside. A barn,
[11:54] Speaker 1: owl perched in a nearby tree joins in the evening
[12:00] Speaker 1: song with a hoot. Even though you and your fellow
[12:08] Speaker 1: l pacas are the quietest of the farm animals. You
[12:14] Speaker 1: always appreciate this soothing barn lullaby. All of these sounds
[12:23] Speaker 1: reassure you that you are exactly where you should be tonight.
[12:30] Speaker 1: As you slowly wind down, you take in a deep breath,
[12:42] Speaker 1: stretch your neck from left to right, then breathe out slowly.
[12:57] Speaker 1: It feels so good to slow down and enjoy the
[13:03] Speaker 1: peaceful evening all around you. You carefully lower your body
[13:12] Speaker 1: onto your knees into what is called the cush position.
[13:21] Speaker 1: Once you're in this comfortable sleeping position, you shake your
[13:27] Speaker 1: head again and let out a great big yon. Above you,
[13:38] Speaker 1: in the barns loft, a sleepy cat is trying to
[13:44] Speaker 1: find the perfect place to rest. When he sees you below,
[13:53] Speaker 1: he jumps down and gently curls up next to you.
[14:02] Speaker 1: Then he starts kneeding his paws deep into your plushy,
[14:08] Speaker 1: warm fleece. He is so cute with his striped fur
[14:19] Speaker 1: and long fluffy tail. Even though he's not an alpaca.
[14:29] Speaker 1: You appreciate his soft purring as he falls asleep next
[14:35] Speaker 1: to you. As your eyes start to close, you hear
[14:44] Speaker 1: the pattering of rain landing on the tin roof above you.
[14:52] Speaker 1: It is very soothing, you rest your tired head down
[15:00] Speaker 1: on another alpaca's fluffy back next to you. This, along
[15:11] Speaker 1: with the purring kitty, keeps you warm and cozy. All
[15:20] Speaker 1: of today's activities are now becoming a blur of memories.
[15:30] Speaker 1: The yummy wild grasses and special snacks, some happy human visitors,
[15:41] Speaker 1: and the warm sun on your back. There will be
[15:49] Speaker 1: more exciting things to do tomorrow, but right now is
[15:59] Speaker 1: your time to invite your lpaca dreams in. The Only
[16:10] Speaker 1: thing you can hear now is the soft, sleepy breathing
[16:18] Speaker 1: of your barn friends. Moonbeams peek through the barn windows
[16:28] Speaker 1: and shine down upon you. As your body settles into
[16:34] Speaker 1: the soft hay. Breathing in deeply, you feel so thankful
[16:45] Speaker 1: for this perfect sleeping place. Breathing out, you feel safe
[16:57] Speaker 1: and so comfortable. You are entering the land of happy
[17:08] Speaker 1: heard dreams. Good Night, snugly alpaca sleep tights n everywhere
