[0:27] Speaker 1: is Tom and I'm so glad you're here for story time.
[0:33] Speaker 1: It's my favorite part of the day, a time to
[0:36] Speaker 1: relax and rest, and I hope you love it just
[0:40] Speaker 1: as much. Simon will be narrating for us in this episode,
[0:47] Speaker 1: which is about a very well dressed kitty cat named
[0:51] Speaker 1: Clive who needs to find a new set of pajamas.
[0:57] Speaker 1: I love a fresh set of pajamas. They always feel
[1:01] Speaker 1: so nice to wear, so hopefully Clive can find himself
[1:06] Speaker 1: a nice cozy pair in this story. Before we hear it,
[1:13] Speaker 1: let's take a moment to get comfortable in bed or
[1:18] Speaker 1: wherever you're listening from. Start by taking a big stretch.
[1:27] Speaker 1: Reach your arms up and lengthen your legs out straight.
[1:35] Speaker 1: Stretch until you can't stretch anymore, and then let it go.
[1:46] Speaker 1: Feel your body go loose and sink deeper into the
[1:52] Speaker 1: surface below. Now snuggle up and closed your eyes. Our
[2:04] Speaker 1: story begins in a mountain town that's not only known
[2:09] Speaker 1: for its natural beauty, but also for its many feline residents.
[2:31] Speaker 2: Once upon a time, nestled in beautiful mountains, there was
[2:36] Speaker 2: a rather special town. It was full of very polite,
[2:42] Speaker 2: happy people who looked after each other and everything around them.
[2:49] Speaker 2: In the morning, the birds sang merrily in the clear sky.
[2:54] Speaker 2: In the evening, the sun sank low behind the mountains
[3:00] Speaker 2: and cast everything in a pink glow. The town was
[3:06] Speaker 2: also home to a number of very well behaved cats,
[3:12] Speaker 2: and the top cat of the town was called Clive.
[3:18] Speaker 2: Clive lived in the big wooden town house in the
[3:22] Speaker 2: middle of town. He occupied the top floor of his
[3:27] Speaker 2: master's place, and like all the cats in the town,
[3:33] Speaker 2: he wore special cat clothes. In fact, Clive was famous
[3:40] Speaker 2: for his perfect taste, impeccable manners, and elegant wardrobe. His
[3:48] Speaker 2: sleek fur was a mix of burnt orange, tangerine, and
[3:54] Speaker 2: maple brown. He had a pure white bib of fur
[4:00] Speaker 2: that ran from his chin all the way down his
[4:04] Speaker 2: neck and over his belly. Each of his paws was
[4:11] Speaker 2: patterned with white, which made it look like he was
[4:14] Speaker 2: wearing socks, and the tip of his tail was white too.
[4:21] Speaker 2: Clive was a short haired cat and kept his whiskers
[4:26] Speaker 2: straight and clean. He knew exactly the right colors to
[4:33] Speaker 2: wear for any occasion. You could often see him pacing
[4:39] Speaker 2: the townhouse in green tweed trousers and a jacket. On
[4:47] Speaker 2: special occasions, he wore a black tailcoat with an emerald
[4:52] Speaker 2: bow tie. He even had a fancy plum silk jacket
[4:59] Speaker 2: with a paisle pattern, which he wore for late nights entertaining.
[5:06] Speaker 2: And that wasn't all. He also had beige walking trousers,
[5:12] Speaker 2: green goloshes, an ebony walking stick, and a black top hat.
[5:21] Speaker 2: But his most important outfit of all was his blue
[5:27] Speaker 2: silk pajamas. One morning, Clive woke up, He stretched out
[5:37] Speaker 2: his paws, gave a great yawn, and was just starting
[5:43] Speaker 2: to think about breakfast when there was a small ripping sound.
[5:51] Speaker 2: Clive twitched his whiskers and looked down his pajamas had ripped. Embarrassed,
[6:02] Speaker 2: he mewed for his assistant, mister Tibbles. A white, fluffy
[6:08] Speaker 2: cat wearing an orange waistcoat came rushing in his paws
[6:14] Speaker 2: pitter pattered on the hardwood floor. It didn't take long
[6:21] Speaker 2: for mister Tibbles to understand what had happened, But there
[6:28] Speaker 2: was a problem. Clive had no spare pajamas. Climbing out
[6:36] Speaker 2: of his ripped pajamas, Clive thought to himself that it
[6:41] Speaker 2: served him right. He should be careful to keep spare
[6:46] Speaker 2: pairs of his clothes. Mister Tibbles suggested that they'd buy
[6:53] Speaker 2: some pajamas from town for to night, but Clive shook
[6:58] Speaker 2: his head. He didn't wear just any old pair of pajamas.
[7:05] Speaker 2: Each element of the garment had its own special function
[7:10] Speaker 2: to make sure he had the perfect night's sleep. First,
[7:18] Speaker 2: it was always made from the silk of the sleepiest silkworm.
[7:26] Speaker 2: The buttons always came from the barren of dreams, and
[7:31] Speaker 2: the thread from the Temple of Peace. Then it had
[7:38] Speaker 2: to be custom made for Clive. As Clive explained this
[7:45] Speaker 2: to mister Tibbles, a wonderful thought came over him. What
[7:51] Speaker 2: if he were to collect all the different parts of
[7:54] Speaker 2: the pajamas himself. He hadn't left the town in a while,
[8:01] Speaker 2: and after all, he knew where to find everything. Yes,
[8:08] Speaker 2: it would be a good little adventure for the day.
[8:12] Speaker 2: With a flick of his tail, he told mister Tibbles
[8:16] Speaker 2: to get ready quickly. Soon Clive and mister Tibbles were
[8:24] Speaker 2: outside the townhouse and trotting off down the road. Clive
[8:31] Speaker 2: was wearing his beige traveling clothes, while mister Tibbles wore
[8:36] Speaker 2: a hunting jacket. They hurried down the street, feeling the
[8:42] Speaker 2: smooth cobblestones underneath their paws. There was a light breeze
[8:48] Speaker 2: in the air that felt cool and welcoming on their whiskers.
[8:55] Speaker 2: They went past the greengrocers, the hat laid, the flower shop,
[9:03] Speaker 2: and the jewelers. They paused slightly at the butcher's shop
[9:10] Speaker 2: to smell the fresh sausage rolls. Then they found themselves
[9:18] Speaker 2: at the tram stop. Right on time, a magnificent red
[9:25] Speaker 2: and gold tram arrived. It pulled into the stop, and
[9:30] Speaker 2: the two cats jumped nimbly onto the back and settled
[9:35] Speaker 2: down for the ride. The tram snaked its way through town.
[9:42] Speaker 2: From the back of the tram, the cats could see
[9:46] Speaker 2: everything today. Everything was peaceful. People were going about their
[9:55] Speaker 2: shopping slowly and happily. The sun was shining, but the
[10:02] Speaker 2: day was pleasant and cool. The tram turned the corner
[10:10] Speaker 2: and up ahead the cats could see the Great Hill.
[10:16] Speaker 2: The Great Hill was the part of town that was
[10:20] Speaker 2: built on the steep side of a mountain. Every day,
[10:26] Speaker 2: the tram pulled its passengers up and down the hill.
[10:34] Speaker 2: The hill was usually where you could find the most
[10:38] Speaker 2: interesting characters and unusual products. Right at the top was
[10:47] Speaker 2: an observatory to look at the stars. This was where
[10:52] Speaker 2: the barren of dreams lived. Slowly, the tram chugged up
[11:00] Speaker 2: the hill. Clive straightened his jacket and rearranged his ears. Finally,
[11:09] Speaker 2: the tram stopped at the top, right outside the observatory.
[11:16] Speaker 2: The cats got off the tram and looked up at
[11:20] Speaker 2: the building. It was small and round and built out
[11:26] Speaker 2: of red bricks. The roof was curved like a dome,
[11:32] Speaker 2: and a great brass telescope protruded out of it. Clive
[11:40] Speaker 2: trotted towards the observatory. There was a big ivy plant
[11:45] Speaker 2: growing up the side of it. Together, the cats began
[11:51] Speaker 2: to climb. Mister Tibbles was careful not to look down.
[11:57] Speaker 2: Then they reached a tiny window near the top of
[12:01] Speaker 2: the domed roof, which was just big enough for a
[12:05] Speaker 2: cat to enter. Clive knocked on the window with a
[12:12] Speaker 2: series of complicated taps without a sound. The window swung
[12:19] Speaker 2: inwards and the two cats climbed through. Clive landed lightly
[12:26] Speaker 2: on the thick, fluffy carpet of a small room. Mister
[12:31] Speaker 2: Tibbles landed next to him and looked around. It was
[12:38] Speaker 2: an interesting room, no bigger than a coat closet. The
[12:44] Speaker 2: walls had been painted gold, and the ceiling was studded
[12:49] Speaker 2: with small round beads of different colored glass. When the
[12:56] Speaker 2: sun hit the glass in the morning, it made the
[13:00] Speaker 2: room come alive with color. Behind them was the open window,
[13:08] Speaker 2: and in front of them was a golden throne. Sitting
[13:15] Speaker 2: on the throne was a very old, very skinny looking cat.
[13:21] Speaker 2: It was the baron of dreams. You see, cat dreams
[13:29] Speaker 2: are different from human dreams. They are quite unruly, so
[13:36] Speaker 2: you need a baron to keep cat dreams in line.
[13:42] Speaker 2: The baron purred happily to see Clive. It had been
[13:47] Speaker 2: a long time since they had seen each other. Clive
[13:52] Speaker 2: took out a very expensive tin of sardines from his
[13:57] Speaker 2: jacket pocket and held them out for the baron. The
[14:03] Speaker 2: Baron's gray eyes lit up immediately. He slinked over to them,
[14:10] Speaker 2: and Clive began to open the tin. Then the three
[14:16] Speaker 2: cats sat together, eating sardines and exchanging gossip. About all
[14:23] Speaker 2: the cats in town. Finally, when the last sardine had
[14:29] Speaker 2: been gobbled, the baron got up and moved over to
[14:34] Speaker 2: his throne. He opened the bottom of it like a
[14:40] Speaker 2: chest of drawers, and rummaged around inside. Then he brought
[14:47] Speaker 2: out a small draw string bag and gave it to Clive.
[14:54] Speaker 2: He explained that these were his best dream buttons. Gary
[15:00] Speaker 2: garanteed to give mild and happy dreams to anyone who
[15:05] Speaker 2: used them. Clive thanked the baron and put the bag
[15:11] Speaker 2: of buttons in his pocket. Then Clive and mister Tipples
[15:18] Speaker 2: climbed back out of the window, but this time they
[15:22] Speaker 2: padded very carefully up the domed roof. When they reached
[15:30] Speaker 2: the top, they took in a deep breath. All around
[15:37] Speaker 2: them stretching out in every direction with the beautiful mountains,
[15:45] Speaker 2: they could see the sun glinting off the snowy caps.
[15:51] Speaker 2: Clive sniffed the fresh air and scanned the landscape with
[15:56] Speaker 2: his eyes, and then he saw it, the small forest
[16:03] Speaker 2: of emerald green trees. It was nestled at the foot
[16:10] Speaker 2: of the closest mountain, and it was there that they
[16:14] Speaker 2: needed to find the sleepiest silkworm for the highest quality
[16:19] Speaker 2: silk ever prepared. Clive took out a package from his
[16:25] Speaker 2: jacket and opened it out it was a small parachute.
[16:32] Speaker 2: Mister Tibbles twitched his whiskers, but Clive told him not
[16:37] Speaker 2: to worry. The parachute would easily carry them both. A
[16:45] Speaker 2: few seconds later they were poised and ready to jump
[16:49] Speaker 2: with the parachute. Mister Tibbles held one side, Clive the other.
[16:57] Speaker 2: Clive took a steady breath, and the two cats linked
[17:02] Speaker 2: their tails together. Then they ran and jumped off the dome.
[17:11] Speaker 2: Clive let them fall gracefully through the air, then flicked
[17:16] Speaker 2: his paw. Mister Tibbles did the same, and the parachute
[17:22] Speaker 2: opened out. Immediately, it filled with air, and the cats
[17:29] Speaker 2: found themselves peacefully floating. The mountains were magnificent. They seemed
[17:39] Speaker 2: so huge, and the trees and shrubs that covered them
[17:44] Speaker 2: swayed slightly in the breeze. The cats watched in amazed
[17:51] Speaker 2: silence as they traveled over the wonderful landscape. Eventually, the
[17:58] Speaker 2: parachute found its way to the small forest that Clive
[18:02] Speaker 2: had pointed out. The trees here were thick, glossy pines.
[18:11] Speaker 2: The cats floated gently down towards them, then they reached
[18:18] Speaker 2: the top of a huge pine tree. It tickled their
[18:22] Speaker 2: paws and they let go of the parachute to land
[18:26] Speaker 2: perfectly in the top branches. But this wasn't just any tree.
[18:35] Speaker 2: This was the silkworm tree. On every branch there hung
[18:42] Speaker 2: a fat worm cocooned in a silky nest, and each
[18:47] Speaker 2: one was busy spinning silk. The silkworms were all colors.
[18:56] Speaker 2: There were magenta worms, green worms, pale yellow worms, and
[19:03] Speaker 2: orange worms. Others were black, red, or white. There were
[19:12] Speaker 2: even silver and gold worms. The tree was so full
[19:20] Speaker 2: of silkworms that it looked like someone had hung extra
[19:25] Speaker 2: large Christmas lights. But Clive looked past all of them.
[19:32] Speaker 2: His eyes rested on one particularly fat silkworm that hung
[19:38] Speaker 2: next to the tree trunk. It was a pale blue color,
[19:45] Speaker 2: the color of the morning sky, and it was asleep.
[19:51] Speaker 2: The cats could hear its soft snoring. They had found
[19:57] Speaker 2: the sleepiest silkworm. The cats skillfully slinked along the branches,
[20:06] Speaker 2: weaving their way closer to the trunk until they reached
[20:11] Speaker 2: the worm. When they got there, Clive cleared his throat.
[20:18] Speaker 2: The worm woke up and looked at them with tired eyes.
[20:25] Speaker 2: Clive reached into his pocket and brought out a packet
[20:30] Speaker 2: of the finest quality ground coffee. The silkworm's eyes lit up.
[20:38] Speaker 2: She quickly hurried inside her cocoon and returned with a
[20:43] Speaker 2: neatly folded sheet of blue silk. Clive took the silk
[20:51] Speaker 2: with many thank yous, and the silkworm happily took the coffee.
[20:58] Speaker 2: Then the cats gave a polite bow and climbed carefully
[21:03] Speaker 2: down the tree until they were on the forest floor.
[21:08] Speaker 2: The soft, springy grass felt soothing against their paws. Mister
[21:16] Speaker 2: Tibbles was about to ask where they were going next,
[21:20] Speaker 2: when Clive told him to listen carefully. Mister Tibbles diard
[21:27] Speaker 2: as he was told. He listened as hard as he could.
[21:33] Speaker 2: Then he heard the sound of a babbling stream. Clive
[21:40] Speaker 2: must have heard it too, because he gave a satisfied
[21:43] Speaker 2: nod and began to slink towards it. Mister Tibbles followed together.
[21:52] Speaker 2: The cats padded through the forest, feeling the earth beneath
[21:57] Speaker 2: them and taking in the scent of pinewood and fresh water.
[22:04] Speaker 2: Then they reached the stream. It was only a little stream,
[22:10] Speaker 2: but it moved quite fast. The water gurgled and tinkled
[22:16] Speaker 2: over the smooth rocks. It caught the sun from time
[22:20] Speaker 2: to time, making the whole stream glitter. Clive looked around
[22:28] Speaker 2: until he found a plant with huge, wide, waxy leaves.
[22:34] Speaker 2: He plucked two leaves from the plant and handed one
[22:39] Speaker 2: to mister Tibbles. Then he placed his leaf into the
[22:45] Speaker 2: stream so that it floated like a small boat. Mister
[22:50] Speaker 2: Tibbles did the same. Then they hopped on to their
[22:56] Speaker 2: leaves and let the stream carry them. As they floated downstream,
[23:04] Speaker 2: they watched the forest move by. It was so peaceful
[23:11] Speaker 2: on the stream. The air was full of the fresh
[23:15] Speaker 2: smell of water, and there was the soft sound of
[23:19] Speaker 2: birds song, and every so often the canopy of trees
[23:25] Speaker 2: above them would open enough to let a beam of
[23:29] Speaker 2: golden sunlight warm their fur. The stream curved and wound
[23:38] Speaker 2: until it opened out onto a small gravelly beach. The
[23:44] Speaker 2: leaf boats drifted to the shore, where the cats got out,
[23:49] Speaker 2: careful not to let the water touch their paws. There
[23:55] Speaker 2: at the top of the beach was a temple made
[23:59] Speaker 2: of smooth round stones that had been piled up on
[24:03] Speaker 2: top of each other. Clive and mister Tipples stopped. This
[24:11] Speaker 2: was an exceedingly peaceful place. There was something special about it.
[24:20] Speaker 2: The cats made their way to the temple and went inside.
[24:25] Speaker 2: It was even more peaceful in there. Clive explained that
[24:31] Speaker 2: this was the Temple of Peace, and it was where
[24:35] Speaker 2: they would find the thread to make his pajamas. Just then,
[24:42] Speaker 2: a very small, very beautiful owl appeared. She fluttered down
[24:48] Speaker 2: from somewhere in the temple ceiling. Clive bowed, and she
[24:56] Speaker 2: bowed back. In her beak, she held a thin silver
[25:02] Speaker 2: thread that seemed to be attached to somewhere at the
[25:06] Speaker 2: top of the temple. Clive made a low hooting sound
[25:12] Speaker 2: at the owl, and she hooted back. They were discussing something.
[25:19] Speaker 2: Then the owl clicked her beak and cooed softly. Suddenly,
[25:27] Speaker 2: a fleet of teeny tiny owls, no bigger than a
[25:31] Speaker 2: tennis ball, appeared in the temple. They swooped all around
[25:37] Speaker 2: the cats with a smile. Clive took out his silk
[25:43] Speaker 2: and buttons. The owls immediately got to work using special
[25:51] Speaker 2: tape measures. They measured Clive. Then they cut the silk
[25:57] Speaker 2: with their beaks. Other owls pulled more thread from the
[26:03] Speaker 2: top of the temple and started to sew the pieces together.
[26:09] Speaker 2: Clive stood with his arms stretched out. The owls took
[26:16] Speaker 2: off his traveling clothes and started to arrange the pieces
[26:20] Speaker 2: of pajamas on his body and stitched them together. Mister
[26:27] Speaker 2: Tibbles watched, unsure of what to do. Clive laughed as
[26:33] Speaker 2: the owls started doing the same for mister Tibbles. Soon
[26:39] Speaker 2: the cats were both standing in the most luxurious pairs
[26:44] Speaker 2: of blue silk pajamas. The owls fluttered around them, putting
[26:51] Speaker 2: the finishing touches to the outfits. Finally, when the last
[26:58] Speaker 2: of the baron's buttons had been insecured, the owls hooted
[27:03] Speaker 2: and fluttered away. The cats relaxed. The silk felt so
[27:11] Speaker 2: cool and comforting against their fur, and there was an
[27:16] Speaker 2: inexplicable sense of sleepiness coming over them. Mister Tibbles asked
[27:24] Speaker 2: how they were going to get home, but Clive just yawned.
[27:31] Speaker 2: They could worry about that later. Now it was time
[27:37] Speaker 2: to take a cat nap. Mister Tibbles didn't need to
[27:44] Speaker 2: be told twice. He was already yawning and rubbing his
[27:49] Speaker 2: ears with his paws. A great sense of calm had
[27:55] Speaker 2: also come over Clive. He flattered and his whiskers and
[28:01] Speaker 2: stretched out his paws. He was so happy to have
[28:05] Speaker 2: a new pair of pajamas. Together, the cats curled up
[28:13] Speaker 2: on the floor of the temple. They wound their tails
[28:18] Speaker 2: around their bodies, crossed their paws, and relaxed their ears.
[28:28] Speaker 2: They were so warm and comfortable, so relaxed and ready
[28:37] Speaker 2: to sleep. They each took a deep breath in then
[28:47] Speaker 2: they closed their eyes, feeling the weight of their eyelids
[28:52] Speaker 2: and the heaviness in their bodies. Slowly they felt themselves
[29:02] Speaker 2: letting go of their adventure, and then they drifted off
[29:12] Speaker 2: into a deep and peaceful sleep. They would dream of
[29:21] Speaker 2: floating leaf boats, snow capped mountains, and the twinkling of
[29:28] Speaker 2: the many stars in the night sky. And all the while,
[29:37] Speaker 2: the barren of dreams would surely be watching the music
