[0:28] Speaker 1: Thanks so much for joining me again. I'm so happy
[0:32] Speaker 1: you're here for story time, an opportunity to settle and
[0:37] Speaker 1: relax for as long as we desire. In this episode,
[0:44] Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you about a child named McKenzie
[0:48] Speaker 1: and a wonderful rainbow colored hammock. Have you ever tried
[0:54] Speaker 1: a hammock? Have you seen one? A hammock is a
[0:59] Speaker 1: kind of hanging swing bed made out of soft cloth
[1:04] Speaker 1: that you can lie down in. You lie in it
[1:08] Speaker 1: and swing back and forth. Hammocks are so much fun.
[1:15] Speaker 1: Now I want you to imagine that you are lying
[1:18] Speaker 1: in a hammock. Close your eyes, feel the soft hammock
[1:26] Speaker 1: underneath you. Imagine that you are outside and the hammock
[1:34] Speaker 1: is swinging gently. As you swing, you can hear the
[1:40] Speaker 1: sound of a light wind in the trees. The sun
[1:46] Speaker 1: is warm and the breeze is cool, and you're as
[1:52] Speaker 1: comfy as can be as you swing softly. Well That
[2:00] Speaker 1: is just how the child in tonight's story McKenzie felt
[2:05] Speaker 1: in their hammock. So now let's go ahead and begin
[2:11] Speaker 1: our story of McKenzie and the Napping hammock. One day,
[2:27] Speaker 1: McKenzie's family went to the hardware store together. They wanted
[2:33] Speaker 1: to run some errands and buy a few things they
[2:36] Speaker 1: needed for the small garden at their new house. They
[2:44] Speaker 1: were looking around at the plants, lawn chairs, and umbrellas,
[2:50] Speaker 1: and then McKenzie saw it, a hammock. It was rainbow colored,
[2:59] Speaker 1: with bright red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple stripes
[3:06] Speaker 1: all over it. It was a lovely hammock. Would you
[3:15] Speaker 1: like to try it out? Asked one of McKenzie's parents,
[3:19] Speaker 1: noticing McKenzie looking at the rainbow colored hammock. Mackenzie nodded,
[3:28] Speaker 1: then carefully climbed into the hammock and tried swinging it
[3:32] Speaker 1: a little. Mackenzie swung gently at first, then a little
[3:41] Speaker 1: bit stronger. Back and forth, back and forth went to
[3:49] Speaker 1: the hammock, Back and forth, back and forth went to mackenzie.
[4:00] Speaker 1: It was fun and it was comfy, and it was
[4:06] Speaker 1: as cozy as could be. McKenzie loved it. Please, Mackenzie said, please,
[4:16] Speaker 1: can I put this hammock on my birthday list? It's
[4:21] Speaker 1: coming up next month. Their parents looked at one another
[4:28] Speaker 1: and raised their eyebrows. Then one of them smiled and
[4:35] Speaker 1: spoke to Mackenzie, I think maybe we can do even
[4:41] Speaker 1: better than that. How would you like to take it
[4:46] Speaker 1: home right now? Well, Mackenzie didn't need to think long
[4:54] Speaker 1: about the answer to that, because the answer was yes,
[5:02] Speaker 1: they would very much like to take the hammock home
[5:06] Speaker 1: right away. And so it was that Mackenzie's family bought
[5:13] Speaker 1: the rainbow colored hammock and loaded it up in their
[5:17] Speaker 1: car to take it home right then and there they
[5:26] Speaker 1: set up the hammock in their little backyard where the
[5:30] Speaker 1: sun shined when it was bright outside, but the neighbour's
[5:37] Speaker 1: tree shaded it so it was always comfortable and never
[5:42] Speaker 1: too hot. Mackenzie loved that rainbow colored hammock. It was
[5:52] Speaker 1: perfect for lying in and swinging back and forth, back
[5:58] Speaker 1: and forth. It was perfect for looking at a picture book,
[6:04] Speaker 1: in especially McKenzie's favorite picture book, all about unicorns. And
[6:15] Speaker 1: it was perfect for lying in and telling yourself a
[6:20] Speaker 1: little story as you looked up at the blue sky
[6:26] Speaker 1: that was all smooth and quiet behind the leaves of
[6:31] Speaker 1: the neighbour's tree. One day. In fact, McKenzie lay in
[6:38] Speaker 1: that rainbow hammock and looked at the smooth blue sky
[6:44] Speaker 1: beyond the neighbour's tree and made up a little story
[6:50] Speaker 1: that started like this. Once there was a tree fairy,
[6:58] Speaker 1: mackenzie's story began. And this tree fairy lived in the
[7:04] Speaker 1: leaves of a tree right next to a garden where
[7:09] Speaker 1: there was a rainbow colored hammock, a rainbow colored hammock
[7:16] Speaker 1: with a child who would lie in it and swing
[7:21] Speaker 1: and look at books or just softly murmur stories to themselves.
[7:30] Speaker 1: And the tree fairy used to sit in the tree
[7:33] Speaker 1: branches and look down at the hammock and the child
[7:38] Speaker 1: who would swing in it back and forth, back and forth,
[7:47] Speaker 1: and the tree fairy would wish and wish to be
[7:51] Speaker 1: able to play in a hammock just like that one.
[7:57] Speaker 1: But of course the rainbow colored hammock was much too
[8:03] Speaker 1: big for a fairy, and what's more, there was a
[8:10] Speaker 1: child already in that hammock. And the fairies are very
[8:16] Speaker 1: much not allowed to go and play with little children,
[8:20] Speaker 1: as much as they might wish to, which, as it happens,
[8:27] Speaker 1: is one of the reasons why children almost never see fairies.
[8:34] Speaker 1: That and the fact that fairies are very very small,
[8:39] Speaker 1: of course, and also quite shy. So the tree fairy
[8:48] Speaker 1: would sit and watch and wish until the poor fairy
[8:54] Speaker 1: could hardly stand it. I must have a hammock, the
[9:00] Speaker 1: fairy thought. And then the fairy thought and thought some more,
[9:10] Speaker 1: and finally the fairy realized that the best thing to
[9:15] Speaker 1: do when you really want something is to work for it.
[9:24] Speaker 1: So the fairy decided, I will make a hammock, just
[9:30] Speaker 1: my size and all for my very own. So then
[9:38] Speaker 1: the tree fairy looked around for a few minutes, thinking
[9:43] Speaker 1: some more, and at last flew over to a nearby tree,
[9:51] Speaker 1: because fairies can fly, after all. In the nearby tree
[10:00] Speaker 1: there were some big flowers blooming, and the fairy picked
[10:05] Speaker 1: several large petals from one of the flowers. The flower
[10:12] Speaker 1: petals were yellow, like the color of the sun up
[10:17] Speaker 1: in the smooth blue sky. The yellow petals were papery
[10:24] Speaker 1: thin and soft, like the super soft tissues that Mackenzie's
[10:31] Speaker 1: parents bought in little colorful boxes. The yellow flower petals
[10:39] Speaker 1: were also as big as the fairy was, because, like
[10:45] Speaker 1: I said before, fairies are very very small. Next, the
[10:55] Speaker 1: tree fairy plucked the stem of the flower from the
[10:59] Speaker 1: tree branch. The stem was slender but strong, and it
[11:06] Speaker 1: was a bright green color. The fairy carefully tied the
[11:13] Speaker 1: strong green stem between two branches of the tree that
[11:19] Speaker 1: grew quite close together. Then the fairy attached the soft
[11:27] Speaker 1: yellow flower petals to the stem. With a little bit
[11:34] Speaker 1: of work and a lot of determination, the tree fairy
[11:40] Speaker 1: was able to attach all the petals together, one yellow
[11:46] Speaker 1: petal on top of the other. This created a kind
[11:53] Speaker 1: of hanging flower petal basket between the two branches, a
[12:01] Speaker 1: hanging flower petal basket that looked a lot like a
[12:06] Speaker 1: tiny sunshine yellow hammock. Tiny that is compared to Mackenzie
[12:16] Speaker 1: or to you and me, but not tiny compared to
[12:21] Speaker 1: the tree fairy, because, after all, as we know, fairies
[12:30] Speaker 1: are so very small, and so the flower petal hammock
[12:38] Speaker 1: was as big as the tree fairy was. Then the
[12:46] Speaker 1: tree fairy double checked the stem and the petals and
[12:51] Speaker 1: made sure that everything was well attached. Assured that it was,
[13:00] Speaker 1: the little fairy climbed into the tiny hammock and lay
[13:05] Speaker 1: back against the soft yellow petals and began to swing
[13:14] Speaker 1: back and forth, back and forth went to the flower
[13:20] Speaker 1: petal hammock, just like the fairy had seen the child
[13:25] Speaker 1: swing back and forth in the rainbow colored hammock below.
[13:34] Speaker 1: The fairy sighed with happiness. At last, all the wishing
[13:41] Speaker 1: and watching was done. The fairy had wanted a hammock,
[13:49] Speaker 1: and so the fairy had thought hard and worked hard
[13:55] Speaker 1: and found a way to make one. And now the
[14:01] Speaker 1: tree fairy could swing back and forth and look up
[14:08] Speaker 1: at the quiet, smooth blue sky just beyond the leaves
[14:14] Speaker 1: of the blossoming tree. And there the fairy stayed happily,
[14:24] Speaker 1: swinging back and forth and watching the leaves move in
[14:30] Speaker 1: the breeze, in the sunshine yellow flower petal hammock. And
[14:41] Speaker 1: that was the end of the story that Mackenzie made up.
[14:47] Speaker 1: Lying in the big rainbow colored hammock, finishing the story,
[14:55] Speaker 1: Mackenzie sighed happily and snuggled even more comfortably into the
[15:02] Speaker 1: soft fabric. The leaves of the neighbour's tree fluttered in
[15:10] Speaker 1: the breeze, moving against the smooth blue background of the
[15:17] Speaker 1: quiet sky, and maybe, just maybe a glimpse of sunshine
[15:26] Speaker 1: yellow flower petals was peeking out behind some of the leaves.
[15:32] Speaker 1: Mackenzie thought strung between the branches like a tiny hammock.
[15:43] Speaker 1: Mackenzie wondered about that and watched through eyes that were
[15:49] Speaker 1: growing heavier and heavier. At last, Mackenzie's eyes began to
[15:58] Speaker 1: blink more and more slowly. As Mackenzie swung gently back
[16:06] Speaker 1: and forth, back and forth, the blue sky lay quiet
[16:15] Speaker 1: and smooth beyond the fluttering leaves, and McKenzie's eyes blinked
[16:23] Speaker 1: and blinked and finally closed. All the way Mackenzie lay
[16:35] Speaker 1: quiet and happy, gently swinging and falling into a light sleep.
[16:47] Speaker 1: And there Mackenzie napped, comfortable and quiet in the rainbow
[16:55] Speaker 1: colored hammock beneath the sun dotted shade of the neighbour's tree,
[17:04] Speaker 1: and they had a most wonderful nap. Then, from that
[17:12] Speaker 1: day on, Mackenzie always referred to the rainbow colored hammock
[17:19] Speaker 1: as the napping hammock, and the name caught on. Mackenzie's
[17:28] Speaker 1: parents started calling it the napping hammock, too, and that
[17:34] Speaker 1: is exactly what it became for all of them. The
[17:41] Speaker 1: hammock was still good for just swinging and watching, of course.
[17:48] Speaker 1: It was still good for looking at books and telling
[17:53] Speaker 1: little stories and wondering about fairies, and they did all
[18:01] Speaker 1: of those things in it too. But best of all,
[18:08] Speaker 1: it was good for dozing off into a RESTful, swinging nap,
[18:18] Speaker 1: and many times Mackenzie or other members of their family
[18:25] Speaker 1: enjoyed a quiet rest in its rainbow depths, from where
[18:32] Speaker 1: they could almost almost make out a tiny sunshine yellow
[18:40] Speaker 1: flower petal hammock in the tree branches far above my Fami.
[20:10] Speaker 1: It had mo
