[0:27] Speaker 1: is Tom. It's lovely to have your company for story time.
[0:34] Speaker 1: In this story, which our friend TK will be reading,
[0:39] Speaker 1: it's Christmas Eve and a boy named Henry is about
[0:44] Speaker 1: to enjoy a night he'll never forget. I remember just
[0:50] Speaker 1: how magical Christmas felt when I was young. It was
[0:54] Speaker 1: my absolute favorite time of year. And if it's something
[0:59] Speaker 1: that you and you your family celebrate, perhaps you feel
[1:03] Speaker 1: the same way I did when I was your age.
[1:07] Speaker 1: But of course, we need to make sure we're well
[1:11] Speaker 1: rested at this time of year so we can enjoy
[1:15] Speaker 1: it to the fullest. So let's prepare for our soothing
[1:21] Speaker 1: story by taking a calm and gentle breath together. Ready,
[1:30] Speaker 1: breathe in for one, two three four and breathe out
[1:38] Speaker 1: for four three two one.
[1:43] Speaker 2: Perfect.
[1:47] Speaker 1: Now we're all set, so let's go and meet Henry
[1:53] Speaker 1: in his cozy home on Christmas Eve.
[2:12] Speaker 2: The gentle pitter patter of the rain was comforting to Henry.
[2:18] Speaker 2: He laid back with his head on the floor of
[2:21] Speaker 2: his bedroom and stared up at the little glowing stars
[2:25] Speaker 2: on his ceiling. He listened intently to the rain falling
[2:32] Speaker 2: outside according to the evening's weather forecast, which his parents
[2:40] Speaker 2: heard on the radio. Soon the rain would turn to
[2:44] Speaker 2: snow and Christmas would be upon his sleepy little town.
[2:52] Speaker 2: He could feel the excitement welling up inside him. Henry
[2:58] Speaker 2: had been waiting for Christmas all year long, ever since
[3:04] Speaker 2: his last holiday adventure. He couldn't wait to see what
[3:09] Speaker 2: this year would bring. When he told the children at
[3:14] Speaker 2: his school that he'd seen Santa Claus the year before,
[3:19] Speaker 2: they hadn't believed him. They thought he was joking, but
[3:26] Speaker 2: he wasn't. The vibrant red coat, the bushy white beard,
[3:34] Speaker 2: and those bright and twinkling eyes were emblazoned on Henry's mind.
[3:41] Speaker 2: But still, as with all magical things, he couldn't help
[3:46] Speaker 2: but wonder if it had really happened. If only he
[3:53] Speaker 2: had proof, something, anything, to show that the most wondrous
[4:00] Speaker 2: night of his life had been real. This year he
[4:07] Speaker 2: would get the proof he needed. Not only was he
[4:13] Speaker 2: determined to see Santa once again, but he'd also get
[4:18] Speaker 2: a picture of him too. Henry had the perfect plan.
[4:27] Speaker 2: It was so good it rivaled that of every spy
[4:31] Speaker 2: film he had ever seen. He pulled out his father's
[4:38] Speaker 2: camera from under his bed and checked to make sure
[4:42] Speaker 2: all the buttons were working. It was a simple digital
[4:49] Speaker 2: camera his father had bought years ago and later forgotten,
[4:55] Speaker 2: so it wasn't a problem for Henry to borrow it tonight.
[5:01] Speaker 2: He glanced over at the clock on his bedside table.
[5:07] Speaker 2: It was eleven thirty. Henry had only a half an
[5:13] Speaker 2: hour left before it was officially Christmas. Henry stood up,
[5:21] Speaker 2: wrapped his robe tightly around himself, and tucked the camera
[5:26] Speaker 2: away in his pocket. He slid his feet into his
[5:32] Speaker 2: bed slippers and told on his blue woolen hat. He
[5:38] Speaker 2: walked over to the window and looked outside. In the
[5:45] Speaker 2: last few minutes, the world had transformed into a winter wonderland.
[5:54] Speaker 2: The rain was gone, and a soft dusting of snow
[5:59] Speaker 2: caught covered the ground. To Henry, the world suddenly looked
[6:07] Speaker 2: a thousand times more beautiful. He gently pressed his face
[6:14] Speaker 2: against the cold glass window and watched his breath spread
[6:20] Speaker 2: over it like fog. He wanted to rush outside and
[6:27] Speaker 2: hold his hands in front of him to feel the
[6:31] Speaker 2: soft touch of snowflakes upon his skin. He wanted to
[6:37] Speaker 2: peer at them up close and see if he could
[6:41] Speaker 2: spot the difference in every tiny white speck, and then
[6:47] Speaker 2: maybe turned his head to the sky and catch them
[6:51] Speaker 2: on his tongue. Henry felt his heart beat in his chest.
[7:00] Speaker 2: Looking out his window, he was full of excitement. It
[7:06] Speaker 2: was as though the magic of the evening coursed through
[7:10] Speaker 2: the air itself. Tonight was going to be a very
[7:19] Speaker 2: special night. He could feel it. With slippered feet, Henry
[7:28] Speaker 2: padded out into the hallway, his shadow following him along
[7:33] Speaker 2: the cream colored walls. His mother had fainted them last
[7:40] Speaker 2: weekend to hide the crayon markings he'd made when he
[7:44] Speaker 2: was very young. It was like a secret now, knowing
[7:51] Speaker 2: the colorful pictures lay just beneath the surface. At the
[7:58] Speaker 2: top of the stairs, Henry stopped to remember where to
[8:02] Speaker 2: put his feet. He spent the past week mapping out
[8:09] Speaker 2: all the places on the stairs that creaked and groaned.
[8:16] Speaker 2: Now he was careful to tiptoe in exactly the right
[8:21] Speaker 2: spots to the left, then to the right, hugged the
[8:29] Speaker 2: corner of the fourth stair step in the middle of
[8:34] Speaker 2: the last one, he'd made it without a single sound.
[8:43] Speaker 2: At the bottom, Henry paused to listen. He was fairly
[8:49] Speaker 2: sure his parents were asleep, but still he waited to
[8:54] Speaker 2: hear his father's telltale snoring. A soft rumbling sound drifted
[9:03] Speaker 2: down the stairs. Henry smiled, putting his hand up to
[9:09] Speaker 2: his mouth to stifle a giggle. They were definitely asleep.
[9:18] Speaker 2: It was safe to get on with his plan. He
[9:24] Speaker 2: looked up at the grandfather clock in the living room.
[9:28] Speaker 2: It was tall and wooden, with a shiny glass face
[9:33] Speaker 2: and elegant black numerals. He had just learned to read
[9:39] Speaker 2: it properly. He concentrated on the placement of the hands
[9:46] Speaker 2: and found it was now eleven forty five, only fifteen
[9:53] Speaker 2: minutes until the magic moment. It was time to hide.
[10:03] Speaker 2: Henry tiptoed across the room and took up his secret
[10:08] Speaker 2: position behind the wide, full branches of the Christmas tree.
[10:16] Speaker 2: He knelt down, feeling the soft white blanket that was
[10:22] Speaker 2: meant to look like snow beneath its legs. His hands
[10:29] Speaker 2: came across a few pine needles that had fallen from
[10:33] Speaker 2: the tree. He spun them idly between his fingertips. He
[10:41] Speaker 2: felt his tummy rumble As he waited, every minute seemed
[10:49] Speaker 2: as though it took an hour to pass, And then
[10:55] Speaker 2: he remembered what else he'd stashed here as part of
[10:59] Speaker 2: his plant. Just before his mother had ushered him upstairs
[11:06] Speaker 2: for pedtime, Henry had managed to put away a box
[11:10] Speaker 2: of cookies for himself behind the tree. It was the
[11:16] Speaker 2: perfect snack for a Christmas eve's stakeout, he figured, and
[11:22] Speaker 2: he could always offer the rest to Santa. He pulled
[11:29] Speaker 2: one out and nibbled at the corners, paying no attention
[11:33] Speaker 2: to the crumbs which landed in his lap. Henry sat
[11:39] Speaker 2: nestled behind the Christmas tree with his back against the
[11:43] Speaker 2: living room wall. He curled up on the blanket, trying
[11:50] Speaker 2: to make himself as small and invisible as he could.
[11:57] Speaker 2: Every few seconds he peeped through the spiny branches at
[12:02] Speaker 2: the large stone fireplace. There he could see his family's
[12:08] Speaker 2: stockings hung with care. They were still empty, of course,
[12:15] Speaker 2: but in the morning they would be full of tiny
[12:18] Speaker 2: presents and treats. The delicate strand fairy lights hanging on
[12:26] Speaker 2: the tree blinked across his vision as he rustled a branch.
[12:34] Speaker 2: They had such a warm and colorful glow. Andy thought,
[12:40] Speaker 2: like everything in this room, they were special just for Christmas.
[12:47] Speaker 2: It's why the living room was his favorite part of
[12:51] Speaker 2: the house throughout the month of December. It held all
[12:55] Speaker 2: the familiar hints of the holiday to come. There were
[13:01] Speaker 2: the Christmas cards hanging above the fireplace, and the little
[13:07] Speaker 2: rocking horse on the mantel. But the best thing, of course,
[13:14] Speaker 2: was the Christmas tree. He loved to decorate it with
[13:20] Speaker 2: his parents. Every year. He would put the star on
[13:26] Speaker 2: the very top of the tree. Then he would step
[13:32] Speaker 2: back and watch his father turn on the lights and
[13:36] Speaker 2: illuminate the cozy room in red and green. The smell
[13:44] Speaker 2: of the pine needles tickled his nose. It was intoxicating,
[13:51] Speaker 2: as though the tree was wrapping him up in a
[13:54] Speaker 2: warm hug. The clock chimed midnight. Henry's heart was full.
[14:08] Speaker 2: It was finally Christmas and he was going to meet
[14:13] Speaker 2: Santa Claus. A rustling sound filled the quiet room. Henry
[14:23] Speaker 2: dropped the cookie he had just raised to his lips,
[14:27] Speaker 2: his gaze fixed on the fireplace. Before his eyes, Henry
[14:36] Speaker 2: saw the same large man appear, dressed in red, with
[14:41] Speaker 2: bright and twinkling eyes. It was Santa He brushed the
[14:50] Speaker 2: flex of black soot off his coat and stepped into
[14:54] Speaker 2: Henry's living room. Santa was a co beneath by an elf,
[15:01] Speaker 2: also adorned in red clothing and a hat dusted with snowflakes.
[15:10] Speaker 2: Henry stayed quiet as a mouse, though his eyes opened wide.
[15:17] Speaker 2: He didn't make a peep as he watched the elf
[15:21] Speaker 2: retrieve something from a large red bag. It was a
[15:28] Speaker 2: box wrapped in shiny blue paper with a green bow
[15:33] Speaker 2: stuck on top. That was Henry's favorite color. Maybe the
[15:41] Speaker 2: present was for him. His hands shook as he held
[15:48] Speaker 2: the camera resting in his lap. He had to take
[15:53] Speaker 2: the picture, but instead of raising it to his face,
[16:00] Speaker 2: Henry just held his breath. Santa placed the box in
[16:07] Speaker 2: front of the tree, just a few inches from where
[16:11] Speaker 2: Henry sat. Then he straightened an ornament on one of
[16:17] Speaker 2: the branches. Santa smiled to himself as he adjusted the
[16:24] Speaker 2: little strand of fairylights this way and that until they
[16:30] Speaker 2: hung perfectly. Henry could see he had a gentle face
[16:38] Speaker 2: and a very warm smile. His beard reminded Henry of
[16:45] Speaker 2: the snow outside, slowly like ice melting. On the first
[16:54] Speaker 2: spring day. Henry regained the feelings in his fingers. He
[17:01] Speaker 2: picked up his camera slowly, careful not to give away
[17:06] Speaker 2: his hiding place. Santa turned away from the tree and
[17:13] Speaker 2: walked over to the table with its plate of cookies
[17:17] Speaker 2: and glass of cold milk. He drank the milk and
[17:23] Speaker 2: ate one of the trees with a grin. It was
[17:28] Speaker 2: now or never, Henry thought. He fumbled with the camera
[17:34] Speaker 2: in his hands. The clicker was stuck and he couldn't
[17:40] Speaker 2: press it down. The crumbs from his cookie must have
[17:46] Speaker 2: jammed the button. When Henry peeked out between the branches
[17:52] Speaker 2: once more, he found that Santa was already gone. All
[18:00] Speaker 2: around the trees sat bright and colorful presence waiting to
[18:05] Speaker 2: be opened. Henry sighed and crawled out from his hiding place.
[18:14] Speaker 2: Just like last year, he had no proof that he
[18:19] Speaker 2: had seen Santa a second time. Henry sat down on
[18:26] Speaker 2: the fluffy carpet in front of the tree. He remembered
[18:31] Speaker 2: how nice and thoughtful Santa's eyes were. They reminded him
[18:38] Speaker 2: of his grandfather's. Grandpa Riley often said that eyes hold
[18:46] Speaker 2: all the wisdom in the world, and maybe it was true.
[18:51] Speaker 2: Henry thought. They both had lines around their eyes that
[18:57] Speaker 2: wrinkled when they smiled, and they both had kindness and love.
[19:07] Speaker 2: As he sat thinking, he noticed something on the floor
[19:11] Speaker 2: beside the fireplace. Henry rolled on to his stomach and
[19:18] Speaker 2: stretched to reach it. It looked almost like a scroll.
[19:27] Speaker 2: Henry brought it to his nose. The paper smelled like Christmas,
[19:34] Speaker 2: with warm cinnamon and fresh pine trees, and the sweetness
[19:39] Speaker 2: of cookies and milk. He unfurled the paper and tried
[19:47] Speaker 2: to read what was on it. It looked like some
[19:52] Speaker 2: kind of list. Three books for Jamie, brushes and paint
[19:58] Speaker 2: for Marie, a set of candles for Luke. Henry gasped.
[20:07] Speaker 2: This was Santa's Christmas list. It must have fallen from
[20:13] Speaker 2: his pocket when he came down the chimney. What would
[20:19] Speaker 2: happen if he didn't have it? Without a second thought,
[20:26] Speaker 2: Henry stood up. He pulled on his coat and scarf,
[20:32] Speaker 2: slipped his feet into his boots, and opened the front door.
[20:40] Speaker 2: A midnight blue sky stretched above him, and wispy silver
[20:45] Speaker 2: clouds floated across it. The bright stars that twinkled overhead
[20:54] Speaker 2: reminded him of the fairy lights decorating his Christmas tree.
[21:01] Speaker 2: The snow was falling quickly now it had formed a
[21:05] Speaker 2: soft white carpet laid out before him. He felt like royalty,
[21:14] Speaker 2: knowing he would be the first to make a footprint
[21:19] Speaker 2: in the snow. The world around Henry was silent. Everyone
[21:30] Speaker 2: lay tucked up in bed. The only sounds he could
[21:35] Speaker 2: hear with a soft and satisfying crunch of his boots
[21:41] Speaker 2: on the snow. Earlier today, the streets had been bustling
[21:50] Speaker 2: with activity, but now Henry relished the silence. The world
[21:59] Speaker 2: looked different at night time. He thought it was less busy,
[22:05] Speaker 2: but just as vibrant and definitely more magical. The street lights,
[22:14] Speaker 2: the Christmas decorations on his neighbors houses, and the twinkling
[22:19] Speaker 2: stars lit Henry's way. As he circled around the back
[22:24] Speaker 2: of his own. Just beyond one of the hedges, Henry
[22:31] Speaker 2: spotted something on the ground. It was a set of
[22:38] Speaker 2: elegant hoofs. Looking closer, he saw it wasn't just one set,
[22:46] Speaker 2: but eight. These must be Santa's reindeer, he realized. They
[22:54] Speaker 2: all stood together, two by two, sniffing the snow, or
[23:00] Speaker 2: idly munching tufts of grass that hadn't yet been covered.
[23:07] Speaker 2: They wore beautiful green and gold harnesses with little silver bells.
[23:16] Speaker 2: White clouds formed around their noses with each breath before
[23:22] Speaker 2: dissipating in the air. They were absolutely beautiful, Henry thought.
[23:34] Speaker 2: He approached them slowly. They had large brown eyes that
[23:39] Speaker 2: drew him in. He wanted to reach out and stroke
[23:45] Speaker 2: their fur, and he wondered if they would feel like
[23:50] Speaker 2: his neighbour's dog, smooth and soft, or would they feel
[23:57] Speaker 2: like the hedgehog he and his father had rescued last week.
[24:02] Speaker 2: Rough and bristly. He looked to the reindeer at the
[24:09] Speaker 2: front and put out his hand. The animal duzzled him
[24:14] Speaker 2: with its large nose, and Henry laughed. He scratched it
[24:20] Speaker 2: on the side of its head. Its ver was thick
[24:25] Speaker 2: and soft. Henry traced the line of the harness back
[24:31] Speaker 2: to the next pair, and the next, following it all
[24:37] Speaker 2: the way to the sleigh. Gently, Henry ran his finger
[24:45] Speaker 2: tips over the smooth painted wood. The body was a
[24:51] Speaker 2: deep red, but there were streaks of white along the
[24:55] Speaker 2: edges and on the runners. It reminded him of a
[25:02] Speaker 2: candy cane. A reflection of the full moon shimmered on
[25:09] Speaker 2: its side. It was packed to the brim with presents.
[25:17] Speaker 2: Some were tucked into large bags, and others sat by
[25:21] Speaker 2: themselves in the back of the sleigh. The starlight glistened
[25:28] Speaker 2: on the shiny wrapping paper and big puffy bows. The
[25:36] Speaker 2: aroma was intoxicating too, just like the letter clutched in
[25:42] Speaker 2: his hand. The sleigh smelled like cookies and cinnamon and
[25:48] Speaker 2: pine trees. His heart filled with warmth, and before he
[25:57] Speaker 2: could stop himself, henrymed inside. He sat between two large
[26:06] Speaker 2: red sacks filled to the top with presents, Andry felt
[26:13] Speaker 2: surprisingly warm. The snow was still falling around him, but
[26:20] Speaker 2: here on this seat he was protected and dry. He
[26:27] Speaker 2: could feel a tinge of magic in the air. Henry
[26:35] Speaker 2: took a deep breath and savoring the warm and comforting
[26:41] Speaker 2: scents of Christmas, and then let it out, watching his
[26:48] Speaker 2: breath and dense in a frosty cloud in front of
[26:53] Speaker 2: his face. He was so caught up in the magic
[27:00] Speaker 2: of the moment he had n't heard the footfalls approaching
[27:05] Speaker 2: until they were almost to the sleigh. Sliding deeper into
[27:13] Speaker 2: the seat, Henry burrowed between the sacks full of presents.
[27:21] Speaker 2: He watched as Santa clambered into his sleigh. The old
[27:27] Speaker 2: elf sat down beside the sack of presents on his
[27:31] Speaker 2: left and took up the shiny black reins. But before
[27:39] Speaker 2: he called to the animals, he paused and cocked his
[27:43] Speaker 2: head to the side. Henry held his breath, not wanting
[27:51] Speaker 2: to make a sound. He could feel the thumping of
[27:57] Speaker 2: his heartbeat in his chest, just like when he was
[28:01] Speaker 2: hidden behind the branches of the tree, but instead of
[28:08] Speaker 2: being discovered, Henry felt movement beneath him. The sleigh jerked
[28:15] Speaker 2: once and then glided smoothly. As the reindeer pulled across
[28:23] Speaker 2: the snow, the sleigh moved faster and faster, and then
[28:31] Speaker 2: with a bump, he felt a sense of weightlessness. Henry
[28:39] Speaker 2: poked his head up from where he hid. Looking around,
[28:45] Speaker 2: he realized the sky seemed much closer than it usually did.
[28:52] Speaker 2: He reached out his hand, and for a moment, he
[28:56] Speaker 2: thought he could touch the clouds. The twinkling stars welcomed
[29:03] Speaker 2: him to their vast and wondrous realm. As he looked
[29:11] Speaker 2: from side to side, he heard a voice as smooth
[29:15] Speaker 2: as velvet and as soft as melted chocolate. So you've
[29:24] Speaker 2: decided to come out, have you? Said Santa. Henry coughed
[29:31] Speaker 2: and sat up in a seat. He nodded his eyes
[29:37] Speaker 2: wide with amazement. I think you know who I am,
[29:43] Speaker 2: Santa said, with a smile. But what may I call you?
[29:51] Speaker 2: Henry introduced himself. It's nice to meet you, Henry, said
[29:58] Speaker 2: the old elf. What brings you to our sleigh? Henry
[30:05] Speaker 2: reached his hand into his jacket pocket and pulled out
[30:09] Speaker 2: the rolled up list. He handed it over to Santa Claus,
[30:16] Speaker 2: whose eyes twinkled down at him. Why thank you, Santa said,
[30:24] Speaker 2: I must have dropped this when I visited your house.
[30:29] Speaker 2: You were very brave to come and return it to me.
[30:34] Speaker 2: Henry smiled. He just wanted to make sure all the
[30:40] Speaker 2: other children would get their presence tonight, too, he told Santa.
[30:47] Speaker 2: As the elf tucked the list away in the pocket
[30:50] Speaker 2: of his coat, he looked on thoughtfully. Henry peered out
[30:57] Speaker 2: over the side of the sleigh, watching the lights of
[31:01] Speaker 2: town racing past beneath them. Santa saw the joy on
[31:08] Speaker 2: the little boy's face as they soared above the villages
[31:13] Speaker 2: and countryside. Perhaps a quick ride would be fine, he thought,
[31:21] Speaker 2: especially for a child like Henry, who truly embodied the
[31:26] Speaker 2: Christmas spirit. Would you care to join us for a
[31:32] Speaker 2: little while before we take you back home, Santa asked.
[31:38] Speaker 2: Henry smiled and nodded. Happily. Hold on tight, Santa said,
[31:46] Speaker 2: and then called out to each of his reindeer by name.
[31:53] Speaker 2: The sleigh banked to one side, and Henry watched in
[31:57] Speaker 2: awe as the world whip passed below them. The tree
[32:04] Speaker 2: tops blurred together, and the houses seemed no bigger than
[32:09] Speaker 2: a strand of fairy lights hanging from a tree. The
[32:16] Speaker 2: snow wasn't falling quite as hard anymore, but it still
[32:21] Speaker 2: fluttered around them. Henry watched the snowflakes light up like
[32:28] Speaker 2: silver sparks in the glow of the moonlight. Santa turned
[32:36] Speaker 2: slightly in his seat to look at Henry. He smiled
[32:42] Speaker 2: and radiated warmth. In this moment, Henry was truly happy.
[32:52] Speaker 2: He could hear the wind whistle around them, but he
[32:56] Speaker 2: was warm and snug in the sleigh. He felt the crisp,
[33:03] Speaker 2: evening air on the tip of his nose and pulled
[33:07] Speaker 2: his cozy jacket tighter around him. As they flew, Santa
[33:16] Speaker 2: Claus asked Henry how he found the list. Henry told
[33:22] Speaker 2: him his story. He said he hid behind the tree
[33:28] Speaker 2: in the hopes of snapping a picture of Santa. The
[33:34] Speaker 2: old elf led out a big, hearty laugh and put
[33:38] Speaker 2: his white gloved hand onto his belly, but the camera
[33:44] Speaker 2: didn't work. Henry said, he hoped Santa wasn't upset with him,
[33:53] Speaker 2: but the elf just chuckled. Of course, the camera didn't work.
[33:59] Speaker 2: He said, that's the thing about magic. You can't prove
[34:07] Speaker 2: that magic exists. You just have to believe it. In here,
[34:16] Speaker 2: he patted Henry on the chest, just above his art,
[34:23] Speaker 2: and Henry did believe. He didn't need a picture to
[34:28] Speaker 2: prove it. He was sitting here in santa sleigh, flying
[34:34] Speaker 2: high above the world on the most perfectly magical Christmas night,
[34:43] Speaker 2: and inside he was filled with warmth and love. Down below,
[34:54] Speaker 2: he saw his neighborhood come into view. There on a
[35:01] Speaker 2: little street, he spotted his house decorated in twinkling lights
[35:08] Speaker 2: that beckoned him back home Softly, the reindeer landed on
[35:17] Speaker 2: the snow and the sleigh touched the ground with a
[35:21] Speaker 2: quiet thump. Henry gave Santa a big hug and carefully
[35:31] Speaker 2: hopped out of the sleigh. The old elf winked and
[35:38] Speaker 2: smiled at Henry before calling the reindeer. One by one,
[35:46] Speaker 2: they began to run, and just as quickly as they landed,
[35:52] Speaker 2: they slipped into the winter air. Once more. He waved
[36:00] Speaker 2: as hard as he could. Just as the sleigh flew
[36:07] Speaker 2: out of sight, Henry heard Santa call to.
[36:10] Speaker 3: Him, Oh, and Merry Christmas. His voice drifted down with
[36:22] Speaker 3: the beautiful white snowflakes, and returned and walked back to
[36:31] Speaker 3: his front door. He pulled it open and stepped inside.
[36:40] Speaker 3: He slipped out of his boots and pulled off his coat, scarf,
[36:46] Speaker 3: and hat. He slid his feet back into his slippers
[36:53] Speaker 3: and patted softly into the living room. In front of
[37:01] Speaker 3: the tree sat the little box with the shiny blue
[37:06] Speaker 3: paper and the big green bow. On the box was
[37:14] Speaker 3: a small tag in elegant sloping handwriting. It read to
[37:21] Speaker 3: Henry from Santa. Henry gently slipped off the lid of
[37:31] Speaker 3: the box. Inside he found a little sleigh piled high
[37:39] Speaker 3: with sacks of presents. It was painted a deep red
[37:47] Speaker 3: with streaks of white that reminded him of a candy cane.
[37:54] Speaker 3: Eight tiny wooden reindeer stood up front, wearing green and
[38:01] Speaker 3: gold harnesses with delicate silver bells. He brought the sleigh
[38:10] Speaker 3: up to his nose. It smelled of cinnamon and pine
[38:17] Speaker 3: trees and cookies and milk. Carefully, he carried it beneath
[38:27] Speaker 3: his arm as he climbed the stairs to his bedroom.
[38:35] Speaker 3: He placed the sleigh on his bedside table and snuggled
[38:39] Speaker 3: down beneath his covers. He yawned and closed his eyes,
[38:52] Speaker 3: and just as he was drifting off to sleep, he
[38:57] Speaker 3: heard a voice float down to him, like a snowflake
[39:01] Speaker 3: from the sky. Merry Christmas to all, it said, and
[39:11] Speaker 3: to all, a good night.
