[0:28] Speaker 1: Hey friend, it's Tom here, and I'm so glad you've
[0:32] Speaker 1: joined me for story time. Whether it's for a nap,
[0:38] Speaker 1: for bedtime, or just for fun. This is my favorite
[0:43] Speaker 1: part of the day, and I hope you love it
[0:47] Speaker 1: just as much as I do. I'm reading our story
[0:51] Speaker 1: today and I can't wait for you to hear it.
[0:56] Speaker 1: It's about a pair of rather unlikely acquaintance, a fox
[1:02] Speaker 1: and a crocodile, who played together and became the best
[1:07] Speaker 1: of friends. This story goes to show that even though
[1:12] Speaker 1: we might all have some differences compared to one another,
[1:17] Speaker 1: we can be good friends with anyone and everyone. All
[1:22] Speaker 1: we have to do is show our friends just how
[1:25] Speaker 1: much we care about them and to simply have fun together.
[1:33] Speaker 1: So let's relax ourselves and get comfy so that we're
[1:39] Speaker 1: ready to listen. Make sure you're settled in and laying
[1:46] Speaker 1: or sitting comfortably wherever you're listening from, and now take
[1:54] Speaker 1: a slow breath in, then breathe it back out. Well done.
[2:08] Speaker 1: We're ready for our story now, so I'll begin. This
[2:25] Speaker 1: is the story of a young fox and a small
[2:30] Speaker 1: crocodile who were best friends. Now you can probably already
[2:38] Speaker 1: tell that this is a very imaginary kind of story.
[2:44] Speaker 1: It isn't about the way things are, but about the
[2:49] Speaker 1: way things could be. So I'll let you in on
[2:55] Speaker 1: a little secret. People have a very important superpower. It's
[3:02] Speaker 1: the power to dream of the world that we would
[3:07] Speaker 1: like to exist, to imagine the way things could be,
[3:14] Speaker 1: and maybe the way things should be. And sometimes it
[3:22] Speaker 1: even has the power to make those dreams come true.
[3:29] Speaker 1: So never stop imagining and dreaming. And who knows, maybe
[3:37] Speaker 1: someday you will help to change the world. I promise you.
[3:45] Speaker 1: Stranger things have happened. But back to our story. As
[3:55] Speaker 1: I said, this is an imaginary kind of story. It's
[4:01] Speaker 1: about a young fox with bright eyes, a very bushy tail,
[4:07] Speaker 1: and reddish brown fur all over. Her best friend was
[4:16] Speaker 1: a small crocodile with a long snout and a long tail,
[4:24] Speaker 1: who was greenish brown all over. Well, as you know,
[4:32] Speaker 1: in the ordinary course of things, foxes and crocodiles don't
[4:38] Speaker 1: tend to be friends. We won't get into the details,
[4:44] Speaker 1: but let's just say that they don't spend time playing together.
[4:50] Speaker 1: But as we've already said, this is no ordinary story.
[4:59] Speaker 1: The young lived on a tiny island in the middle
[5:04] Speaker 1: of a wide bay, where the water was warm, the
[5:09] Speaker 1: sun was warmer, and the sky was as blue as
[5:14] Speaker 1: the sea. And on the tiny island there was a
[5:21] Speaker 1: swampy pond at the edge of the island, and the
[5:26] Speaker 1: swampy pond, where the land met the water, lived the
[5:32] Speaker 1: small crocodile. He lived partly on the land and partly
[5:41] Speaker 1: in the water. For you see, crocodiles are cold blooded reptiles.
[5:50] Speaker 1: That's the scientist's way of saying that they need the
[5:55] Speaker 1: sun to warm up their bodies and give them energy,
[6:03] Speaker 1: so they swim in the water a lot of the time,
[6:08] Speaker 1: but they also crawl on land to lie in the
[6:11] Speaker 1: sun and soak up energy to keep them going. Well,
[6:21] Speaker 1: here is how the young fox who lived on the
[6:24] Speaker 1: island and the small crocodile who lived at the edge
[6:28] Speaker 1: of the swampy pond became friends. Because it was a
[6:36] Speaker 1: tiny island, they were almost sure to run into each
[6:41] Speaker 1: other eventually, And this is how it happened. The fox
[6:48] Speaker 1: was out playing with a butterfly one bright and sunny morning.
[6:56] Speaker 1: The butterfly, who was as yellow as the sun and
[7:01] Speaker 1: as playful as could be, would flutter down and land
[7:06] Speaker 1: on the fox's shoulder or head, or even the tip
[7:12] Speaker 1: of her nose. Then the butterfly would swoop off before
[7:20] Speaker 1: the fox could reach up and touch her, and she
[7:25] Speaker 1: would flutter back near the fox's face, and then with
[7:30] Speaker 1: a giggle, she would fly off again. The fox, also laughing,
[7:39] Speaker 1: would run after her, and then the butterfly would land
[7:44] Speaker 1: on the fox again and then fly off again in
[7:49] Speaker 1: a flash. The fox and the butterfly went along like that,
[7:58] Speaker 1: laughing and running in the case of the fox, and
[8:03] Speaker 1: giggling and flying in the case of the butterfly, until
[8:09] Speaker 1: they reached the edge of the swampy pond. For after all,
[8:17] Speaker 1: it was a very tiny island, and it didn't take
[8:22] Speaker 1: long to reach the pond. There, lying in the sun
[8:30] Speaker 1: at the very edge of the swampy pond was the
[8:34] Speaker 1: small crocodile. He was soaking up the sun and resting
[8:42] Speaker 1: with his eyes almost closed. The sun felt very warm,
[8:51] Speaker 1: and the muddy edge of the pond felt very soft.
[8:57] Speaker 1: The crocodile was feeling very drowsy. His eyes kept closing,
[9:05] Speaker 1: and he was all cozy, warm and sleepy. Then, just
[9:14] Speaker 1: as the crocodile's eyes closed all the way, the little
[9:20] Speaker 1: butterfly fluttered right down onto the very tip of his snout.
[9:29] Speaker 1: His snout is his long nose. Slowly, the small crocodile
[9:37] Speaker 1: opened one eye to see who had landed on his snout.
[9:44] Speaker 1: He heard a high giggling voice coming from the butterfly,
[9:50] Speaker 1: and a lower giggling voice, which was the fox, and
[9:57] Speaker 1: so he opened his other eye to s see more.
[10:04] Speaker 1: There on the very tip of his snout was the
[10:08] Speaker 1: yellow butterfly. Just behind her was the reddish brown fox,
[10:17] Speaker 1: and both of them were giggling at the small crocodile.
[10:25] Speaker 1: The small crocodile could have been angry at the fox
[10:29] Speaker 1: and butterfly for laughing at him. He could have felt
[10:35] Speaker 1: embarrassed at their giggling, but their smiles were wide and friendly,
[10:44] Speaker 1: and he could see they didn't mean any harm. He
[10:51] Speaker 1: looked at the fox, and then he looked back at
[10:55] Speaker 1: the butterfly, and looking at the tip of his snout
[11:01] Speaker 1: where the butterfly was made him cross his eyes, because
[11:07] Speaker 1: that is the only way you can look at your
[11:10] Speaker 1: very own nose. Then he thought he must look very
[11:18] Speaker 1: funny indeed with his eyes or crossed, so he began
[11:24] Speaker 1: to laugh too. Wow. Once the small crocodile began to laugh,
[11:34] Speaker 1: that made the fox and the butterfly laugh even harder,
[11:41] Speaker 1: and that made the crocodile laugh even harder, and soon
[11:48] Speaker 1: they were all rolling on their backs and laughing with
[11:53] Speaker 1: all their might. It was quite a sight, i can
[12:00] Speaker 1: tell you, the fox rolling on the shore laughing, the
[12:07] Speaker 1: crocodile rolling in the mud laughing, and the butterfly rolling
[12:15] Speaker 1: through the air laughing. It almost makes me laugh myself
[12:22] Speaker 1: just to think of it. When they finally stopped laughing
[12:29] Speaker 1: and all three took a moment to catch their breath,
[12:34] Speaker 1: the fox said hello to the crocodile, and the crocodile
[12:39] Speaker 1: said hello back, and the butterfly said hello as well. Then,
[12:49] Speaker 1: because she was a friendly kind of animal, the fox
[12:54] Speaker 1: asked the crocodile if he would like to play with them,
[13:00] Speaker 1: Because she was smiling, and because he liked to have
[13:04] Speaker 1: a good time, the crocodile said yes. So the three
[13:13] Speaker 1: of them whizzed along the shore, chasing each other, and
[13:19] Speaker 1: giggling even more. All that morning, they played until it
[13:30] Speaker 1: was time for lunch, and after lunch they played some
[13:36] Speaker 1: more all over the tiny island and along the shores
[13:42] Speaker 1: of the wide bay. The next day, the butterfly had
[13:50] Speaker 1: to move on with her family and all the other
[13:54] Speaker 1: yellow butterflies. That's because they were animals who migrate, which
[14:03] Speaker 1: means they move from one place to another. So the
[14:10] Speaker 1: butterfly said goodbye to her friends and flew off to
[14:16] Speaker 1: make new friends in a new place. This wouldn't be
[14:24] Speaker 1: so hard for her to do, because she had learned
[14:27] Speaker 1: the secret of making friends to smile and to laugh,
[14:35] Speaker 1: always in a friendly way, and the butterfly was very
[14:41] Speaker 1: good at smiling and laughing. The fox and the crocodile
[14:49] Speaker 1: did not migrate, because they are animals who stay in
[14:54] Speaker 1: one place. So they waved goodbye to their friend the
[15:01] Speaker 1: butterfly and wished her wonderful adventures and lots of laughs
[15:08] Speaker 1: on her journey. And then they played some more, just
[15:16] Speaker 1: the two of them together. The young fox and the
[15:22] Speaker 1: small crocodile dug in the mud and watched the holes
[15:27] Speaker 1: they made fill up with swampy water. They made sand
[15:35] Speaker 1: castles on the sandy shore of the wide bay. They
[15:41] Speaker 1: chased their own tails, though they never could catch them,
[15:47] Speaker 1: and they played tag all over the island. Sometimes they
[15:56] Speaker 1: would argue, as friends will do, but they always made up,
[16:02] Speaker 1: because the young fox and the small crocodile also knew
[16:07] Speaker 1: the secret of smiling and laughing in a friendly way,
[16:16] Speaker 1: and it works just as well for keeping friends as
[16:20] Speaker 1: it does for making them. So yes, they would have
[16:27] Speaker 1: disagreements now and again. Maybe the fox would think the
[16:33] Speaker 1: crocodile hadn't followed the rules when they played a game,
[16:39] Speaker 1: or maybe the crocodile would think the fox had taken
[16:43] Speaker 1: the very best snacks for herself without sharing enough of
[16:48] Speaker 1: them with him. But then one of them would smile
[16:56] Speaker 1: or would make a joke about the whole thing and
[16:59] Speaker 1: begin to laugh, not at the other in a mean way,
[17:07] Speaker 1: but at the funniness of the whole situation in a
[17:12] Speaker 1: friendly way. And then the other would smile or laugh too,
[17:21] Speaker 1: and soon they would be the best of friends again.
[17:28] Speaker 1: And so they went on, best friends, playing and having fun,
[17:36] Speaker 1: always ready for a laugh and a smile together on
[17:42] Speaker 1: their tiny island, where the water was warm, the sun
[17:48] Speaker 1: was warmer, and the sky was as blue as the sea.
[17:57] Speaker 1: Perhaps another day I'll tell you the story of one
[18:02] Speaker 1: of their other adventures. But for now it is time
[18:09] Speaker 1: to sleep, so I'll let you drift off to dream
[18:17] Speaker 1: of the world as you would like it to be,
[18:23] Speaker 1: the world as just maybe you will help it to
[18:28] Speaker 1: be one of these days, a world where even the
[18:35] Speaker 1: most unlikely of friends share a smile and a laugh,
[18:43] Speaker 1: and everyone can enjoy happy days together, full of fun,
[18:52] Speaker 1: just like the young fox and the small crocodile, who
[18:58] Speaker 1: most likely are still there to this very day, playing
[19:04] Speaker 1: and laughing together on their tiny island.
