[0:04] Speaker 1: Welcome to snuggle cozy stories for kids. This episode is
[0:10] Speaker 1: called The Bunny Family at Home. Hey friend, it's Tom
[0:18] Speaker 1: here as always, and I'm thrilled to have you join
[0:22] Speaker 1: me for story time. It's my favorite time of the day,
[0:27] Speaker 1: as you probably know by now. I just find it
[0:31] Speaker 1: so nice to relax and let my imagination run freely
[0:36] Speaker 1: in worlds of my own creation. In my opinion, it's
[0:41] Speaker 1: one of the coziest activities. Speaking of cozy, today's story
[0:48] Speaker 1: is about one of the coziest animals in the world,
[0:52] Speaker 1: the bunny rabbit. In fact, it's about a whole family
[0:58] Speaker 1: of bunnies who been a whole town of animals. I
[1:04] Speaker 1: know you're going to love it, so let's get ready
[1:09] Speaker 1: to imagine this story by taking a calming breath together.
[1:16] Speaker 1: So inhale deeply and exhale nice and slow. Wonderful. Great job.
[1:34] Speaker 1: Now use your imagination to picture a big green meadow,
[1:41] Speaker 1: and next to that meadow is a river from far away.
[1:47] Speaker 1: They may seem very normal, but let's begin our story
[1:54] Speaker 1: and you'll see just how special they are. The bunny
[2:10] Speaker 1: family lived in a cozy den at the edge of
[2:14] Speaker 1: Animal Town. If you haven't heard of Animal Town, that's
[2:21] Speaker 1: because it only exists in the land of imagination. But
[2:26] Speaker 1: it's a wonderful place, and I'm going to tell you
[2:31] Speaker 1: all about it. Animal Town is a pretty spot with
[2:38] Speaker 1: a river along one side and a big green meadow
[2:43] Speaker 1: on the other side. It's full of quiet streets lined
[2:49] Speaker 1: with trees and houses. But not houses like the ones
[2:56] Speaker 1: you're used to. Oh no, these are special kinds of houses,
[3:03] Speaker 1: for these are animal homes. In fact, when I said
[3:10] Speaker 1: the streets were lined with trees and houses, I could
[3:15] Speaker 1: just as well have simply said that the streets were
[3:19] Speaker 1: lined with houses. That's because the trees in animal Town
[3:26] Speaker 1: are also houses. They're homes for squirrels and birds and
[3:34] Speaker 1: other sorts of tree dwelling animals. The bunny family didn't
[3:41] Speaker 1: live in a tree, though they lived under a tree.
[3:47] Speaker 1: Their home was a den, which means it was dugout underground.
[3:54] Speaker 1: The bunny family's cozy den was dug underneath a big
[4:00] Speaker 1: branching tree. It was a perfect home for a family
[4:06] Speaker 1: of bunnies. There was plenty of space for little rooms
[4:11] Speaker 1: under the wide tree, and that was a good thing
[4:17] Speaker 1: for there were a great many bunnies in the bunny family.
[4:24] Speaker 1: There were three sisters and three brothers who loved to
[4:28] Speaker 1: hop and play and chase their own little cotton tails.
[4:36] Speaker 1: Three sisters and three brothers made six children in all,
[4:44] Speaker 1: and then there were nearly as many grown up bunnies
[4:48] Speaker 1: in the family, too, for there were two parents and
[4:54] Speaker 1: two grandparent bunnies. This made four grown up bunnies. Six
[5:04] Speaker 1: little bunnies, and four grown up bunnies made ten bunnies
[5:10] Speaker 1: all together in the Bunny family. And they all lived
[5:16] Speaker 1: in the cozy den beneath the big branching tree at
[5:23] Speaker 1: the edge of animal Town. And so it was that
[5:30] Speaker 1: there were ten places set at the Bunny family's dinner
[5:33] Speaker 1: table one evening, ready for the ten bunnies to eat together.
[5:42] Speaker 1: The weather was just starting to grow cooler that evening,
[5:46] Speaker 1: and the leaves had just begun to fall from the
[5:50] Speaker 1: big branching tree. It was still warm enough that the
[5:57] Speaker 1: bunny children had played outside all afternoon. Mind you, they'd
[6:04] Speaker 1: run and hopped around under the big tree, laughing and
[6:10] Speaker 1: playing with the squirrel children who lived next door. But
[6:17] Speaker 1: when the sun sank down behind the hills, the evening
[6:21] Speaker 1: air felt cold, and the little bunnies began to shiver
[6:28] Speaker 1: just a bit a chill breeze swept through the meadow
[6:36] Speaker 1: and down the streets of animal town. The breeze stirred
[6:41] Speaker 1: up the fallen leaves that lay in small heaps below
[6:46] Speaker 1: the tree. The leaves swelled, making a soft, rustling noise.
[6:56] Speaker 1: That was when the bunny parents and the squirrel parents
[7:00] Speaker 1: called to their little bunnies and squirrels inside for dinner.
[7:07] Speaker 1: So the three sister bunnies and the three brother bunnies
[7:12] Speaker 1: said good night to their squirrel friends, and they hopped
[7:17] Speaker 1: into their cozy den underneath the big branching tree. It
[7:26] Speaker 1: was warm inside the den, and it felt just as
[7:30] Speaker 1: snug as could be after the cool air outside. The
[7:38] Speaker 1: bunnies den was a neat little home. It was warm
[7:43] Speaker 1: and bright, with many pretty lamps that made a cozy light.
[7:51] Speaker 1: When you first went into the den, you entered a
[7:55] Speaker 1: big main room that was round like a circle. On
[8:01] Speaker 1: the floor there was a round rug made of colorful
[8:06] Speaker 1: rags tied together. There was a group of cozy chairs
[8:12] Speaker 1: at one side of the big room, and on the
[8:16] Speaker 1: other side was a long wooden table. This long table
[8:24] Speaker 1: was where the bunny family ate their dinner. There were
[8:30] Speaker 1: benches along two sides of the table, and this is
[8:35] Speaker 1: where the bunny children sat. At the ends of the
[8:40] Speaker 1: table were four chairs where the parent bunnies and grandparent
[8:46] Speaker 1: bunnies sat. That night, when the six little bunnies hopped
[8:53] Speaker 1: into the den, the tips of their noses and the
[8:58] Speaker 1: tips of their long floppy ears were cold from the
[9:03] Speaker 1: evening air, so they felt happy and snug to enter
[9:10] Speaker 1: the big, warm, bright room. The little bunnies were also
[9:17] Speaker 1: hungry from all of their playing outside in the fresh air,
[9:23] Speaker 1: so they felt even happier when they saw a big
[9:27] Speaker 1: soup pot sitting in the middle of the table. Steam
[9:34] Speaker 1: was rising gently from the big pot, so they could
[9:39] Speaker 1: tell something hot was inside, and a yummy smell was
[9:45] Speaker 1: coming from it, so they could tell it was something
[9:49] Speaker 1: hot and delicious. The little bunnies scurried off to the
[9:57] Speaker 1: bathroom to wash their pow, and in next to no time,
[10:04] Speaker 1: all six of them were back at the table, popping
[10:08] Speaker 1: up onto the benches ready to eat. Grandmother Bunny stood
[10:16] Speaker 1: at one end of the table, her reading glasses dangling
[10:22] Speaker 1: on a long chain around her neck. She was a
[10:27] Speaker 1: kind looking bunny, just right for a grandmother, and she
[10:33] Speaker 1: was very dear to her little grandchildren. Grandmother Bunny picked
[10:41] Speaker 1: up a large spoon and began to serve soup. She
[10:47] Speaker 1: scooped it into wooden bowls that grandfather Bunny had carved
[10:53] Speaker 1: from tree branches years ago. She filled up the bowl
[11:00] Speaker 1: with steaming soup packed with carrots and turnips and celery
[11:07] Speaker 1: and other things that little bunnies just loved to eat.
[11:13] Speaker 1: And she set a steaming bowl of soup in front
[11:16] Speaker 1: of each of the little bunnies. Now that soup smelted delicious,
[11:26] Speaker 1: and they couldn't wait to fill their bellies and warm
[11:30] Speaker 1: themselves with it. But the little bunnies waited politely until
[11:37] Speaker 1: all ten members of the Bunny family had bowls of
[11:42] Speaker 1: soup in front of them. They waited until grandmother Bunny
[11:49] Speaker 1: put down the big spoon and sat at the table
[11:53] Speaker 1: to enjoy her dinner too, And then they began to eat.
[12:03] Speaker 1: And oh, did that soup taste good. It was sweet
[12:09] Speaker 1: from the carrots, and salty from the celery, and nutty
[12:14] Speaker 1: from the turnips, and they loved every bite. At first,
[12:23] Speaker 1: the little bunnies and the grown up bunnies ate in silence,
[12:30] Speaker 1: but after a while, the little bunnies began to tell
[12:35] Speaker 1: their parents and grandparents about their day. They told about
[12:42] Speaker 1: the games they'd played and the funny joke the oldest
[12:47] Speaker 1: squirrel brother had shared. They told about the falling leaves
[12:54] Speaker 1: and the way the air felt colder tonight. The weather
[13:00] Speaker 1: is turning, Grandfather Bunny said, and all the grown ups
[13:05] Speaker 1: nodded in agreement. Grandmother Bunny said she would put an
[13:12] Speaker 1: extra quilt on their beds tonight so they would sleep
[13:17] Speaker 1: as snug as could be all night long. When they
[13:25] Speaker 1: all finished their dinner, the little bunnies carried their bowls
[13:30] Speaker 1: and spoons to the kitchen. The kitchen was another cozy
[13:36] Speaker 1: room with a wooden counter running all around its sides.
[13:44] Speaker 1: On the counter there was a large wash tub filled
[13:48] Speaker 1: with water, a pretty jug painted with flowers, and a
[13:54] Speaker 1: dish rack. The little bunnies took turns washed their bowls
[14:01] Speaker 1: and spoons. First, they dipped them into the warm water
[14:07] Speaker 1: in the wash tub and scrubbed them with a cloth.
[14:13] Speaker 1: Then they poured fresh water from the jug over their
[14:17] Speaker 1: dishes to rinse them clean. Lastly, they set them neatly
[14:25] Speaker 1: into the dishwrack to dry. When the little bunnies were
[14:32] Speaker 1: done washing their bowls and spoons, they went to the
[14:36] Speaker 1: bathroom to brush their teeth and get ready for bed.
[14:44] Speaker 1: And then, when at last they were all ready for
[14:48] Speaker 1: the night, they went into their bedrooms. There were two
[14:55] Speaker 1: small rooms next to one another. Three sister bunnies all
[15:01] Speaker 1: slept in one of the bedrooms, and the three brother
[15:06] Speaker 1: bunnies all slept in a matching bedroom just next door.
[15:14] Speaker 1: The sister bunny's bedroom held three little beds next to
[15:19] Speaker 1: one another, each covered in a pretty blue blanket with
[15:25] Speaker 1: a pattern of tiny flowers. The brother Bunny's bedroom also
[15:33] Speaker 1: held three little beds next to one another, but these
[15:37] Speaker 1: were covered with pretty green blankets with a pattern of
[15:42] Speaker 1: tiny leaves. The bunnies felt tired from their long day
[15:50] Speaker 1: playing outside. They felt wonderfully warm in the cozy den,
[15:58] Speaker 1: and they felt pertly satisfied from their delicious soup. And
[16:07] Speaker 1: now they were beginning to feel sleepy, very sleepy, indeed,
[16:19] Speaker 1: so they each hopped up into their own little beds
[16:24] Speaker 1: and snuggled down under the pretty blankets, yawning widely. In
[16:34] Speaker 1: a moment, grandmother Bunny bustled in, carrying a pile of
[16:40] Speaker 1: quilts that she'd made herself last winter. She went back
[16:47] Speaker 1: and forth between the two rooms and carefully laid a
[16:52] Speaker 1: quilt over each little bunny, tucking them in so they
[16:58] Speaker 1: would be cozy and snug all night long. Then she
[17:07] Speaker 1: kissed each brother bunny on the tip of his nose
[17:11] Speaker 1: and the tops of his ears. She kissed each sister
[17:17] Speaker 1: bunny on the tip of her nose and the tops
[17:20] Speaker 1: of her ears. Good night, she whispered softly. Next, grandfather
[17:32] Speaker 1: Bunny came in. He kissed each brother bunny on the
[17:38] Speaker 1: tip of his nose and the tops of his ears.
[17:44] Speaker 1: He kissed each sister bunny on the tip of her
[17:47] Speaker 1: nose and the tops of her ears. Good night, he whispered.
[17:58] Speaker 1: Then it was the parent bunny's turn. The parents came
[18:04] Speaker 1: in together and kissed each brother bunny and each sister
[18:10] Speaker 1: bunny on the tip of their nose and the tops
[18:15] Speaker 1: of their ears. They tucked each bunny into bed once again,
[18:24] Speaker 1: just to be absolutely sure they would be as cozy
[18:28] Speaker 1: and snug as they could be all night long. And
[18:36] Speaker 1: then they turned out the lights, and they whispered ever
[18:44] Speaker 1: so softly, good night. At last,
