[0:04] Speaker 1: Welcome to snuggle Cozy Stories for kids. This episode is
[0:10] Speaker 1: called Painting Rainbows. Hey friend, it's Tom. I'm so glad
[0:20] Speaker 1: you're here for story time. Today's story is really special
[0:25] Speaker 1: to me because I wrote it just for you. It's
[0:30] Speaker 1: about a little girl with a very special gift. She
[0:35] Speaker 1: has to find courage within herself to share her gift
[0:39] Speaker 1: with the world. I hope this story inspires you to
[0:45] Speaker 1: believe in yourself. The truth is everyone has a special
[0:51] Speaker 1: gift and that includes you, and you should never be
[0:56] Speaker 1: afraid to share it with the world. Let's take one
[1:03] Speaker 1: deep breath together to get ready for our story. So
[1:09] Speaker 1: breathing slowly and exhale wonderful now in your mind, imagine
[1:25] Speaker 1: a beautiful home somewhere in the countryside, with big trees
[1:32] Speaker 1: and sprawling meadows all around. This is where our story begins.
[1:56] Speaker 1: Claudia sits at her easel, looking at over the broad
[2:01] Speaker 1: stretches of countryside to the rear of her home. Dainty
[2:08] Speaker 1: birds tweet and chirp in the trees and bushes outside.
[2:14] Speaker 1: She recognizes some of the songs and can match them
[2:18] Speaker 1: to their species without a moment's thought. Way out in
[2:25] Speaker 1: the distance, a combine harvester is plowing the year's crops.
[2:31] Speaker 1: A gentle breeze carries the slightest murmur of its engine
[2:36] Speaker 1: and mechanisms all the way to Claudia's ears. She smiles.
[2:44] Speaker 1: She must have sat in this very spot on thousands
[2:48] Speaker 1: of occasions in her life. Still, every time she gazes
[2:55] Speaker 1: through the tall, arched windowpane, it reminds her just how
[3:00] Speaker 1: blessed she is. This home has belonged to her family
[3:06] Speaker 1: for multiple generations. It's modest in size, craggy in its appearance.
[3:16] Speaker 1: The floorboards creak, and the carpets are worn by time.
[3:22] Speaker 1: Yet the memories that it holds are priceless, and the
[3:27] Speaker 1: familiarity keeps Claudia grounded. She takes a deep breath in,
[3:36] Speaker 1: sensing the cool, fresh air drifting in from outside. It's
[3:43] Speaker 1: time once again to create a new masterpiece. She mixes
[3:51] Speaker 1: together several different shades of paints, lightly dabbing her brush
[3:56] Speaker 1: in two or three pans to achieve the right place.
[4:02] Speaker 1: As the colours dilute and combine, Claudia's mind courses back
[4:07] Speaker 1: through her youth. There is one particular occasion that always
[4:13] Speaker 1: comes to the forefront, especially when she's in this spot.
[4:20] Speaker 1: It was a hot, humid day toward the end of summer. Claudia,
[4:27] Speaker 1: no more than six or seven years old at the time,
[4:31] Speaker 1: was transfixed to her coloring book. She laid on her
[4:36] Speaker 1: bedroom floor with a pack of colored crayons, filling in
[4:41] Speaker 1: pictures of wildlife and mystical creatures. Meanwhile, her parents went
[4:49] Speaker 1: about their usual house chores, whistling lighthearted melodies to keep
[4:54] Speaker 1: them entertained. The family dog was staying busy ering around
[5:00] Speaker 1: in the garden and searching for new smells. Every window
[5:06] Speaker 1: and door of the home was wide open, encouraging air
[5:11] Speaker 1: to flow around and to keep the house as cool
[5:14] Speaker 1: as possible in the humidity. Suddenly, without warning, the light
[5:22] Speaker 1: from the sun disappeared and was replaced by a deep
[5:27] Speaker 1: gray blanket of shade. Claudia's bedroom became so dark that
[5:33] Speaker 1: she struggled to see what she was drawing. As she
[5:38] Speaker 1: wandered downstairs to find her parents, the gray clouds erupted
[5:43] Speaker 1: with a furious downpour of rain. Visibly panicked, her mum
[5:48] Speaker 1: and dad raced around, shutting the doors and windows and
[5:53] Speaker 1: desperately gathering up the dry washing from the clothesline. Outside.
[6:00] Speaker 1: A booming clap of thunder resonated from above. Its deep
[6:05] Speaker 1: vibrations shook the walls of the entire house, prompting the
[6:10] Speaker 1: dog to bolt inside and straight upstairs. Claudia followed as
[6:16] Speaker 1: they both rushed to hide under her bed. As the
[6:21] Speaker 1: storm hovered above, Claudia cowered beneath her bed. She pressed
[6:27] Speaker 1: her palms over her ears and cuddled up to her
[6:30] Speaker 1: dog for comfort. But the downpour moved on almost as
[6:36] Speaker 1: quickly as it arrived. The muffled sounds of thunder gradually
[6:41] Speaker 1: faded as the storm passed. A minute or two later,
[6:49] Speaker 1: her mum and dad peeked in through the bedroom door.
[6:54] Speaker 1: Claudia slid out from her hiding place just enough so
[6:58] Speaker 1: that they knew she was there. They came and knelt
[7:03] Speaker 1: beside her, checking that she was okay. Meanwhile, the thick
[7:10] Speaker 1: clouds began to break and sunlight re emerged. The heavy
[7:16] Speaker 1: rain eased off to a mere drizzle. Claudia's father urged
[7:22] Speaker 1: her to come out from under the bed and join
[7:25] Speaker 1: them in the study. He said that something magical was
[7:30] Speaker 1: happening outside. With cautious intrigue, Claudia followed her parents. She
[7:39] Speaker 1: made her way towards the tall window the sight that
[7:44] Speaker 1: met her eyes was extraordinary. The sky, which was covered
[7:52] Speaker 1: in deep dark grays just minutes before, had transformed into
[7:58] Speaker 1: a spectacle of color. Rays of sunlight pierced through gaps
[8:05] Speaker 1: in the softer clouds, and patches of blue revealed themselves
[8:10] Speaker 1: once more. But something unusual stood out against the rest,
[8:18] Speaker 1: a peculiar yet glorious, multi colored arc stretching over the
[8:25] Speaker 1: entire land. Claudia had never seen anything like this before.
[8:33] Speaker 1: She rubbed her eyes to be sure it was real.
[8:37] Speaker 1: Her parents chuckled as they watched their daughter completely awe struck.
[8:44] Speaker 1: This vision in the sky seemed to envelop the landscape,
[8:48] Speaker 1: as if forming a protective veil across it. It had
[8:53] Speaker 1: so many colors, six seven, maybe more. The shape followed
[9:01] Speaker 1: the contours of the curved window frame, as if it
[9:05] Speaker 1: was a display screen purpose made to project this image.
[9:12] Speaker 1: Do you know what that is, Claudia asked her dad.
[9:17] Speaker 1: She shook her head, still spellbound and speechless. It's called
[9:25] Speaker 1: a rainbow. Claudia's eyes opened wider. Still, even its name
[9:33] Speaker 1: sounded pretty. After every storm comes a rainbow, Mum said.
[9:42] Speaker 1: It's a sign that the thunder and lightning has gone
[9:46] Speaker 1: and all is safe and bright again. Still to this day,
[9:53] Speaker 1: those words remain vivid in Claudia's memory, as well as
[9:59] Speaker 1: the great scent of relief and joy that her young
[10:02] Speaker 1: heart felt. That moment ignited her lifelong fascination with rainbows.
[10:13] Speaker 1: Better still, her father spoke of a pot of gold
[10:16] Speaker 1: at the end of a rainbow. She couldn't see either
[10:20] Speaker 1: end from the window, both were hidden behind rolling hills,
[10:26] Speaker 1: but Claudia's impressionable mind was inspired. One day, she said,
[10:34] Speaker 1: I'm going to find the rainbow and make my life's fortune.
[10:40] Speaker 1: Her parents grinned with a loving affection as they left
[10:44] Speaker 1: Claudia to watch the fading spectacle. They never could have
[10:50] Speaker 1: foreseen just how fitting their daughter's words that day would
[10:55] Speaker 1: eventually prove to be. From that moment forth, Claudia's bedroom
[11:03] Speaker 1: walls began to fill up with drawings of rainbows, each
[11:08] Speaker 1: one more vibrant and artistic than the last. Now, whenever
[11:16] Speaker 1: it rained, a rush of excitement outweighed any sense of fear.
[11:23] Speaker 1: She'd often wait by the study window, hoping that the
[11:27] Speaker 1: sun might break through the rain clouds and spawn. The
[11:31] Speaker 1: colorful arches in the sky dotted across the walls of
[11:37] Speaker 1: the study were dozens of water colors by the artist
[11:42] Speaker 1: Claude Money. Her mother adored his work. In fact, such
[11:50] Speaker 1: was her mother's adoration that Claudia's own name was given
[11:54] Speaker 1: by virtue of the famous Frenchman. She too became fascinated
[12:01] Speaker 1: by Monnet's works and dreamed of being a well known painter,
[12:06] Speaker 1: just like he was. On her tenth birthday, Claudia received
[12:13] Speaker 1: her very first set of paints from her mum and dad.
[12:19] Speaker 1: As she eagerly tore at the neat wrapping paper, a
[12:22] Speaker 1: small handwritten note fell out onto her lap. The words read,
[12:31] Speaker 1: to our dear Claudia, may your imagination run free and
[12:38] Speaker 1: your creativity thrive. Always chase the rainbow. That motto has
[12:49] Speaker 1: stuck with Claudia ever since. Her teenage years were less
[12:55] Speaker 1: about the typical interests shared by her peers. Instead, her
[13:00] Speaker 1: time was spent honing her craft, absorbing guidance and advice
[13:05] Speaker 1: from her art teachers, and developing a style that was,
[13:10] Speaker 1: without question, uniquely her own. She had plenty of friends,
[13:19] Speaker 1: but felt too shy to ever show them her paintings.
[13:23] Speaker 1: She was worried that they might laugh, or that they
[13:27] Speaker 1: might not understand why she cared more for art and
[13:32] Speaker 1: nature than for gossip and material things. Claudia found her
[13:39] Speaker 1: contentment in discovering the beauty of the countryside and trying
[13:44] Speaker 1: to recreate it. She would peacefully sit in many a meadow,
[13:50] Speaker 1: photographing the sky, or the flowers, or the animals, or
[13:57] Speaker 1: anything that made her smile, and then she'd spend her
[14:03] Speaker 1: free time turning these scenes into stunning works of art.
[14:10] Speaker 1: She learned of the phenomena and science behind rainbows, how
[14:16] Speaker 1: sunlight is refracted as it enters droplets of rain in
[14:20] Speaker 1: the air, and how that light is then reflected into
[14:25] Speaker 1: our eyes. Even with this knowledge and understanding, Claudia still
[14:32] Speaker 1: viewed every rainbow as a moment of magic, and a
[14:38] Speaker 1: small part of her never stopped believing her dad's fanciful story.
[14:44] Speaker 1: She still longed for the day when she'd find that
[14:47] Speaker 1: pot of gold. As Claudia's love for art continued to evolve,
[14:56] Speaker 1: so too did her thirst for discovery. She began to travel.
[15:03] Speaker 1: She wanted to see the world and all the beauty
[15:07] Speaker 1: that it had to offer. Every new adventure was planned
[15:13] Speaker 1: with seasonal conditions in mind. Claudia would tirelessly research weather
[15:19] Speaker 1: patterns from region to region, and from one country to
[15:23] Speaker 1: the next. Her overriding ambition was always focused on witnessing
[15:31] Speaker 1: a rainbow. Of course, she endured plenty of frustration along
[15:39] Speaker 1: the way, hours, days, sometimes weeks spent waiting in various
[15:46] Speaker 1: foreign lands, and sometimes to no avail, but it was
[15:52] Speaker 1: always worth it for those rare, precious moments, moments when
[16:00] Speaker 1: the conditions were just right. The bright skies would cloud over,
[16:08] Speaker 1: the rains would fall with rupture, just for a matter
[16:13] Speaker 1: of minutes, and then the sun would work hard to
[16:19] Speaker 1: break through the darkness to push the clouds away, and
[16:24] Speaker 1: when it did, the results were pure majesty. Every time
[16:34] Speaker 1: she could feel the hairs on her neck stand up
[16:38] Speaker 1: and goosebumps covering her arms. Claudia would wait under whatever
[16:45] Speaker 1: shelter she could find, sometimes in her car, or under
[16:50] Speaker 1: tin rooftops or in a cafe overlooking quaint scenery. When
[16:57] Speaker 1: the rain eased off, out came her camera and the
[17:01] Speaker 1: beautiful rainbows crossing the skies would be captured, ready to
[17:08] Speaker 1: be turned into watercolor masterpieces, much like Monney's. Her mum
[17:17] Speaker 1: and dad were so proud. Every time she returned home
[17:22] Speaker 1: from another trip, they sat and looked through all of
[17:26] Speaker 1: her new paintings She would explain each and every detail,
[17:32] Speaker 1: describing the scenes and stories that brought the canvases to life.
[17:40] Speaker 1: The unfaltering passion that they recognized on her tenth birthday
[17:45] Speaker 1: was still as prevalent as ever. Claudia captured some of
[17:52] Speaker 1: the most mesmeric vistas that one could imagine. Rainbows over
[17:59] Speaker 1: fields of lavender in France, over charming windmills in Holland,
[18:08] Speaker 1: over swaves of sunflowers in Florida, and across the beautiful
[18:14] Speaker 1: beaches of the Caribbean. Each one was different, Flooded with
[18:22] Speaker 1: a thousand shades of color from top to bottom, left
[18:28] Speaker 1: to right, the scenes were nothing short of a paradise
[18:33] Speaker 1: for the eyes. For Claudia, this was simply her hobby,
[18:41] Speaker 1: her way of expressing the happiness in her heart and
[18:46] Speaker 1: keeping souvenirs of the world. It never occurred to her
[18:52] Speaker 1: that this hobby could become something even greater, not until
[18:58] Speaker 1: her mother sat with her in the study one day
[19:02] Speaker 1: and made a wise observation. You do realize, Claudia, that
[19:09] Speaker 1: money made his wealth thanks to his paintings, and quite honestly,
[19:15] Speaker 1: your paintings are by far the best I've ever seen.
[19:19] Speaker 1: Since Claudia gazed at Monneye's famous artwork, contemplating her mother's words,
[19:30] Speaker 1: you should show them to others, Mum continued, even if
[19:36] Speaker 1: the money doesn't concern you, it would be a tremendous
[19:39] Speaker 1: waste if they never left these four walls. This conversation
[19:47] Speaker 1: prompted Claudia to think about her trips around the world.
[19:53] Speaker 1: She had visited many art exhibitions in various towns and cities.
[20:00] Speaker 1: Each was filled with fascinating works by aspiring artists from
[20:06] Speaker 1: near and far. Indeed, she often dreamed of seeing her
[20:11] Speaker 1: own paintings in these places. However, Claudia never quite believed
[20:18] Speaker 1: that her work would be worthy. She feared the possibility
[20:23] Speaker 1: of rejection and humiliation, just like the anxieties she had
[20:29] Speaker 1: felt as a teenager, and so her paintings still remained
[20:35] Speaker 1: a secret, known only to her closest loved ones. One day,
[20:44] Speaker 1: her aging parents read of a grand exhibition in the
[20:49] Speaker 1: local newspaper. It was being planned in the famous town
[20:55] Speaker 1: hall of a nearby city. Some of the world's most
[21:00] Speaker 1: renowned art critics would be attending. It could surely be
[21:05] Speaker 1: a once in a lifetime chance for Claudia to unveil
[21:09] Speaker 1: her stunning art to the wild. Still, Claudia felt nervous, apprehensive,
[21:20] Speaker 1: and insecure. The only people who had ever seen her
[21:25] Speaker 1: work were her own family and her school teachers. No
[21:31] Speaker 1: matter how many compliments they had given her and how
[21:35] Speaker 1: much encouragement she'd received, she couldn't rid herself of that
[21:40] Speaker 1: little voice of doubt in the back of her mind.
[21:47] Speaker 1: The following morning, Claudia awoke to the sound of rain
[21:51] Speaker 1: pattering on her bedroom window. Despite the rain, a single
[21:58] Speaker 1: ray of sunlight peaked through her curtains. With that, Claudia
[22:04] Speaker 1: jumped out of bed and ran into the study. Yet again,
[22:10] Speaker 1: her eyes were met by the astonishing sight of a
[22:13] Speaker 1: beautiful rainbow. She felt a wave of inspiration rushed through her.
[22:23] Speaker 1: The sensation of wonder took her back to that day
[22:27] Speaker 1: in her childhood, and the message that her parents wrote
[22:32] Speaker 1: on her tenth birthday resonated in her mind. Always chased
[22:39] Speaker 1: the rainbow. With that, Claudia felt full of courage and belief.
[22:48] Speaker 1: She grabbed the newspaper and found the contact details for
[22:53] Speaker 1: the exhibition organizers. They might already be at full capacity,
[22:59] Speaker 1: but it was worse shot. To her surprise, she received
[23:05] Speaker 1: a response just a day later, as if by some miracle.
[23:11] Speaker 1: The organizers were still looking for upcoming local artists. In particular,
[23:20] Speaker 1: they were interested in paintings of landscapes and scenery in
[23:24] Speaker 1: the surrounding region. It couldn't have been more perfect. Some
[23:31] Speaker 1: of Claudia's finest works were those that she had captured
[23:36] Speaker 1: close to home. With a bootload of paintings in tow,
[23:42] Speaker 1: Claudia made haste for the town hall. Waiting for her
[23:47] Speaker 1: there were the exhibition organizers. She could feel her heart
[23:53] Speaker 1: beating out of her chest as she stepped inside the building.
[24:00] Speaker 1: A man and a lady, both dressed with elegant flare,
[24:04] Speaker 1: greeted her in the reception area. One by one, they
[24:11] Speaker 1: looked through each of Claudia's paintings. Their faces beamed as
[24:18] Speaker 1: they surveyed the creative interpretations of local countryside. The lady
[24:25] Speaker 1: commented on the impressive detail and the colorful vibrancy. The
[24:32] Speaker 1: man was astounded by their lifelike quality. Claudia's pounding heart
[24:40] Speaker 1: felt more calm and full with each flattering compliment. There
[24:47] Speaker 1: were paintings of meadows filled with wildflowers and sweet animals,
[24:54] Speaker 1: Forests with towering trees and babbling brooks, Cottages set amongst
[25:00] Speaker 1: open countryside. The organizers loved every one of them. For
[25:08] Speaker 1: someone still in her twenties, They were amazed by the
[25:12] Speaker 1: elegance of her style, but it was when they got
[25:17] Speaker 1: to the final painting that their faces became visibly wonder struck.
[25:26] Speaker 1: A beautiful, vibrant rainbow soaring across the skies over the
[25:33] Speaker 1: open countryside behind Claudia's family home. It was one of
[25:40] Speaker 1: the first watercolor paintings Claudia had ever done. She put
[25:46] Speaker 1: it at the back of the pile, assuming that it
[25:49] Speaker 1: would be their least favorite, but the reality was quite
[25:53] Speaker 1: the opposite. The art experts were amazed. For a moment,
[26:01] Speaker 1: they each fell speechless. The lady finally managed to utter
[26:09] Speaker 1: a single word wow. Claudia looked at them, both, unsure
[26:18] Speaker 1: of why they seemed so shocked. This piece, I think,
[26:25] Speaker 1: I believe is the finest landscape painting I have ever seen,
[26:32] Speaker 1: stated the man. I have never perceived the true beauty
[26:38] Speaker 1: of rainbows like I do at this moment. I beg
[26:44] Speaker 1: you please allow us to make this the featured piece
[26:47] Speaker 1: of our exhibition. I will pay whatever it takes. Claudia
[26:56] Speaker 1: could not believe her ears didn't know what to say,
[27:02] Speaker 1: but of course, she agreed. Though she tried to deny
[27:07] Speaker 1: the man's money, he insisted that she accept his offer.
[27:13] Speaker 1: Better Still, the organizers asked that she bring even more
[27:17] Speaker 1: paintings for them to display. They contacted the esteemed art
[27:23] Speaker 1: critics who were due to attend. Proudly, they informed them
[27:30] Speaker 1: of the most exciting young artists in a generation. Overwhelmed
[27:38] Speaker 1: with happiness, Claudia raced home to tell her parents. Of course,
[27:45] Speaker 1: they were over the moon, but in no way surprised.
[27:51] Speaker 1: It had been clear to them for some time that
[27:54] Speaker 1: their talented daughter was destined for success above all else.
[28:02] Speaker 1: They were proud of her for finding the courage to
[28:05] Speaker 1: share her work. Two weeks later, Claudia attended the exhibition.
[28:15] Speaker 1: Over a dozen of her paintings were displayed across the
[28:19] Speaker 1: main section. Crowds of enthusiasts, journalists, and critics crowded around,
[28:28] Speaker 1: entranced by the stunning artistry of the watercolor landscapes. Throughout
[28:36] Speaker 1: the evening, several critics approached Claudia. Each expressed their admiration
[28:43] Speaker 1: for her artwork, especially the rainbow. They wondered why they
[28:50] Speaker 1: had never heard of her name before. Claudia explained that
[28:56] Speaker 1: this was the first time her work had been put
[28:58] Speaker 1: on display in public. With this, she received countless offers
[29:06] Speaker 1: for commissioned work. A gallery owner from Paris heard of
[29:12] Speaker 1: her rainbow over the French lavender fields, he wanted to
[29:17] Speaker 1: put it in his gallery. An esteemed American art critic
[29:24] Speaker 1: asked that she come to paint some of his favorite
[29:27] Speaker 1: places in his home state, and there were many more offers.
[29:35] Speaker 1: Soon enough, Claudia's artwork began to appear in galleries and
[29:40] Speaker 1: exhibitions all over the world. Her paintings were written about
[29:47] Speaker 1: in magazines and newspaper articles and in dozens of languages.
[29:55] Speaker 1: Journalists wanted interviews, book publishers wanted her autobiography, and before
[30:03] Speaker 1: long she became affectionately known as Claudia the Rainbow Princess.
[30:15] Speaker 1: As the years went by, Claudia became a household name.
[30:20] Speaker 1: Celebrities and even royalty requested unique works for them to
[30:26] Speaker 1: cool their own. Her fame and popularity took her all
[30:33] Speaker 1: over the planet. She was traveling more than ever and
[30:38] Speaker 1: always relished the chance to paint in new places. Her
[30:44] Speaker 1: portfolio of watercolors was ever expanding, and she soon became
[30:50] Speaker 1: one of the most prolific artists in modern history. Yet
[30:56] Speaker 1: there was one painting that forever remas her trademark piece.
[31:04] Speaker 1: It was that painting, the rainbow scene behind her family home.
[31:12] Speaker 1: Millions of replicas sold worldwide, and it became a must
[31:17] Speaker 1: have ornament on the walls of many homes. Indeed, it
[31:23] Speaker 1: seemed divinely fitting. The scene that first ignited Claudia's passion
[31:31] Speaker 1: was the one that brought her a life beyond her
[31:34] Speaker 1: wildest dreams. Her childhood affirmation had come true in many ways.
[31:44] Speaker 1: The rainbow was her pot of gold that brought her
[31:48] Speaker 1: great fortune. Despite her fame and riches, Claudia remained humble
[31:56] Speaker 1: and modest. She didn't see herself as some larger than
[32:02] Speaker 1: life figure. She was just a regular person with a
[32:07] Speaker 1: love of rainbows. When her parents passed away, they left
[32:14] Speaker 1: the family home to her. They promised not to be
[32:19] Speaker 1: offended if she chose to use her wealth to move
[32:23] Speaker 1: to a larger property in a more prestigious area. In fact,
[32:29] Speaker 1: they encouraged her to do so, but Claudia knew that
[32:34] Speaker 1: she would never feel at home anywhere but here. She
[32:43] Speaker 1: married the love of her life, whom she met on
[32:47] Speaker 1: her travels. He adored her work and loved Claudia with
[32:53] Speaker 1: complete devotion. They had two beautiful children and lived happily
[33:00] Speaker 1: in the old family home. Claudia chose to invest her
