[0:28] Speaker 1: you so much for joining me again. If you don't
[0:32] Speaker 1: already know, my name is Tom and I'm so glad
[0:37] Speaker 1: to have your company for story time. This is my
[0:42] Speaker 1: favorite part of the day, and I hope you love
[0:44] Speaker 1: it just as much as I do. I'll be reading
[0:49] Speaker 1: to you again today. And if you've ever visited an aquarium,
[0:55] Speaker 1: it's possible that you might have seen a sea dragon
[0:58] Speaker 1: swimming around. But have you ever wondered what it would
[1:02] Speaker 1: be like to have a sea dragon as a pet. Well, shortly,
[1:10] Speaker 1: a boy named Dorian is about to find out just
[1:13] Speaker 1: what that's like after he receives a unique birthday gift
[1:18] Speaker 1: from his parents. Before we hear it, make sure you're
[1:26] Speaker 1: settled in, nice and snug. Relax all the muscles in
[1:33] Speaker 1: your face, then your arms and hands, your chest, belly
[1:47] Speaker 1: and back, and even your legs and feet nicely done.
[2:00] Speaker 1: Now we're ready to listen, So let's begin our dreamy
[2:06] Speaker 1: aquatic adventure with Dorian. It was Dorian's seventh birthday. It
[2:30] Speaker 1: had the most wonderful party at the aquarium, seeing all
[2:36] Speaker 1: of the amazing creatures. Dorian was fascinated by fish and
[2:44] Speaker 1: the ocean. It always loved being at his family's beach
[2:50] Speaker 1: house more than anywhere else. There he could wander along
[2:58] Speaker 1: the beach and swim in the waves and see some
[3:02] Speaker 1: of the creatures that lived in the ocean. But he
[3:10] Speaker 1: only ever caught a glimpse of the creatures near the shore.
[3:16] Speaker 1: On the beach, he spotted crabs in the sand and
[3:20] Speaker 1: pods of dolphins off the coast. Dorian had always longed
[3:29] Speaker 1: to see the creatures of the deep, and he wanted
[3:33] Speaker 1: to see them in person, not just on the pages
[3:37] Speaker 1: of a book or magazine. Today he was finally able
[3:46] Speaker 1: to do just that. He had his fill of oceanic wonders,
[3:54] Speaker 1: and without having to travel far. There was no need
[3:59] Speaker 1: to go all the way to the Great Barrier Reef
[4:03] Speaker 1: in Australia, though one day he hoped to visit. This afternoon,
[4:13] Speaker 1: Dorian's parents were able to grant one of his deepest
[4:17] Speaker 1: wishes simply by taking him to the public aquarium in
[4:23] Speaker 1: the city. It had never visited one before, so he
[4:33] Speaker 1: was in for quite a surprise when he realized that
[4:37] Speaker 1: some of the most amazing fish on the planet resided
[4:41] Speaker 1: there at the aquarium. There were even some of the
[4:48] Speaker 1: creatures he had always longed to see and learn about.
[4:56] Speaker 1: During his visit, he saw schools of neon colored fish
[5:01] Speaker 1: and several polka dotted stingrays, and there was a cute
[5:08] Speaker 1: family of penguins who looked as though they were wearing tuxedos.
[5:17] Speaker 1: There was even a tank of reef sharks on the ceiling.
[5:23] Speaker 1: The sharks passed overhead while Dorian and his friends watched
[5:29] Speaker 1: and stunned silence below. The trip to the aquarium really
[5:38] Speaker 1: was the perfect birthday present. Dorian went from exhibit to exhibit,
[5:47] Speaker 1: spending more time at each one than the other children.
[5:54] Speaker 1: Seeing the aquatic creatures in their respective habitats and watch
[6:00] Speaker 1: their behavior in person was immensely fulfilling. It was so
[6:07] Speaker 1: much better than watching things on TV or reading about them.
[6:16] Speaker 1: The sizes and proportions were all so different from what
[6:21] Speaker 1: he'd expected. Dorian had seen many images of coral reefs,
[6:30] Speaker 1: but viewing one up close with his own eyes, with
[6:35] Speaker 1: all of its stunning, vibrant colors was something else. The
[6:44] Speaker 1: fish moved so gracefully, and the sharks in particular, they
[6:52] Speaker 1: glided through the water much like the birds in the sky.
[6:58] Speaker 1: Dorian wanted to see day and watch for as long
[7:02] Speaker 1: as possible. There had also been tanks full of all
[7:10] Speaker 1: sorts of creatures that he had never even heard of before,
[7:16] Speaker 1: like sea cucumbers and starfish. Their names were spot on,
[7:25] Speaker 1: thought Dorian. That was exactly what they looked like. Dorian
[7:34] Speaker 1: decided then and there that one day he would live
[7:40] Speaker 1: near the ocean and become a marine biologist or find
[7:46] Speaker 1: a job that would enable him to learn more about
[7:49] Speaker 1: these creatures. He could think of nothing better than studying
[7:56] Speaker 1: everything about them and helping to protect them. At the aquarium,
[8:06] Speaker 1: he learned that, for various reasons, the numbers of some
[8:11] Speaker 1: of these creatures were dwindling. He also discovered that some
[8:18] Speaker 1: fish and sea creatures were kept as pets, when what
[8:22] Speaker 1: they really needed was the space to roam freely as
[8:28] Speaker 1: nature intended. Of course, the tanks in the aquarium were different.
[8:39] Speaker 1: These exhibits were there to protect the species, but on
[8:46] Speaker 1: the whole, Dorian thought it was better for the creatures
[8:50] Speaker 1: to be free if possible, and people needed to do
[8:55] Speaker 1: more to cherish and protect all the species of the sea.
[9:05] Speaker 1: Dorian wanted to make the world a better place, and
[9:10] Speaker 1: one day he hoped to see more creatures in the ocean.
[9:17] Speaker 1: Maybe he would even be able to swim with some
[9:20] Speaker 1: of these sea creatures if he was really lucky. After
[9:29] Speaker 1: Dorian and his friends and family had seen every exhibit,
[9:35] Speaker 1: the birthday party continued with a dinner of pizza. They
[9:42] Speaker 1: played a few rounds of ocean themed arcade games, and
[9:48] Speaker 1: finally left right as the aquarium was set to close.
[9:57] Speaker 1: The evening was calm and cool. As everyone went home,
[10:04] Speaker 1: the sun dipped below the horizon, casting rays of yellow, orange,
[10:11] Speaker 1: and red, which looked like dancing flames through the indigo sky.
[10:20] Speaker 1: It was a beautiful night and the perfect end to
[10:25] Speaker 1: a perfect birthday. Dorian and his parents soon arrived back home.
[10:37] Speaker 1: By the time the car was pulling up in the driveway,
[10:41] Speaker 1: the sun had disappeared completely. The moon was peeking out
[10:47] Speaker 1: from behind a cluster of fluffy cotton clouds. Although the
[10:56] Speaker 1: moonlight was bright, it didn't obscure fure the spattering of
[11:01] Speaker 1: stars twinkling in the night sky. Dorian lingered outside for
[11:10] Speaker 1: a moment gazing at the stars while his parents unlocked
[11:16] Speaker 1: the front door and went inside. But then he heard
[11:23] Speaker 1: them call his name and say that they had a
[11:27] Speaker 1: surprise for him. Inside, Dorian's parents explained that there was
[11:36] Speaker 1: still a few more presents. Feeling excited, Dorian sat down
[11:45] Speaker 1: on the cushy living room carpet as they handed him
[11:49] Speaker 1: the gifts. All the boxes were wrapped in aquatic themed
[11:56] Speaker 1: paper with blue ribbon. He smiled at his parents as
[12:05] Speaker 1: he took the first box and tore into it, discarding
[12:11] Speaker 1: the ribbon and paper, pulling out a large, thick book.
[12:18] Speaker 1: He was thrilled to discover that it was a picture
[12:22] Speaker 1: book of all the fish in the sea, and it
[12:27] Speaker 1: was full of facts and interesting tidbits about their behavior.
[12:36] Speaker 1: Dorian set the book to one side as he started
[12:41] Speaker 1: on the next present, which was a little lighter than
[12:45] Speaker 1: the first. Opening it, he found a set of paperback
[12:52] Speaker 1: books inside. To his delight, he realized that it was
[12:59] Speaker 1: a mythological course series. The books were about a boy
[13:06] Speaker 1: who learned that he was a Greek demigod. He was
[13:12] Speaker 1: the son of the god of the sea. The boy
[13:17] Speaker 1: had magical abilities, such as breathing underwater and even controlling
[13:25] Speaker 1: the Ocean. This was the exact series that Dorian had
[13:31] Speaker 1: been begging his parents for ever since he saw the
[13:35] Speaker 1: books at the store, But it was Dorian's third gift
[13:44] Speaker 1: that excited him the most. As he pulled the box
[13:51] Speaker 1: out of the gift wrapped bag, he wasn't quite sure
[13:55] Speaker 1: what it was. The packaging was so colorful and had
[14:02] Speaker 1: so many interesting sea creatures printed on it that it
[14:07] Speaker 1: took him a minute to realize it was a special
[14:14] Speaker 1: kit for growing creatures called sea dragons. Inside the box
[14:22] Speaker 1: was a small aquarium along with a packet labeled dust.
[14:32] Speaker 1: Dorian read on the back of the box that the
[14:35] Speaker 1: so called dust actually contained tiny eggs. These were the
[14:43] Speaker 1: eggs that the sea dragons hatched from. Intrigued, Dorian pulled
[14:52] Speaker 1: out the instruction manual titled the Sea Dragon Handbook, and
[14:59] Speaker 1: on folded it to learn more. What he read was astonishing.
[15:11] Speaker 1: These weren't real sea dragons, of course, as those only
[15:16] Speaker 1: existed in fantasy. Instead, they were a kind of tiny shrimp.
[15:26] Speaker 1: They were one of nature's true miracles, undergoing a process
[15:32] Speaker 1: called cryptobiosis, a term which meant hidden life. During this process,
[15:43] Speaker 1: the creatures remained dormant in their eggs. They were asleep
[15:50] Speaker 1: in biological time capsules until the time was right, and
[15:58] Speaker 1: then they came to life. The sea dragons were lack
[16:06] Speaker 1: science fiction time travelers, journeying into the future. They waited
[16:14] Speaker 1: to be borne at just the right time and with
[16:19] Speaker 1: just the right environment. The box contained everything the sea
[16:28] Speaker 1: dragons needed to live. As well as the aquarium, which
[16:34] Speaker 1: was about the size of Dorian's head, there were packets
[16:39] Speaker 1: of water, purifier and food. The third packet contained the
[16:47] Speaker 1: magical dust or the eggs that would soon become the
[16:52] Speaker 1: sea dragons. Dorian looked up at his parents, grinning. This,
[17:03] Speaker 1: he told them, was his favorite gift of all. He
[17:09] Speaker 1: couldn't wait to use it. Tending to the sea dragons
[17:15] Speaker 1: and watching them grow and thrive would become a favorite hobby.
[17:22] Speaker 1: He was already sure of it. Afterwards, Dorian had only
[17:30] Speaker 1: an hour before bedtime to set up the aquarium in
[17:37] Speaker 1: his bedroom. He quickly set down his gifts, stowing the
[17:42] Speaker 1: new books on his wooden shelf. Then he turned his
[17:49] Speaker 1: attention to the sea dragons, his sea dragons. Dorian arranged
[17:59] Speaker 1: all the contents of the kit on his desk and
[18:04] Speaker 1: then sat down to read the manual front to back.
[18:11] Speaker 1: He took his time to ensure that he had it
[18:15] Speaker 1: committed to memory. First, he filled the small tank with water.
[18:26] Speaker 1: Then he poured the entire contents of the first packet
[18:31] Speaker 1: into the tank. This powder was the water purifier. It
[18:40] Speaker 1: would remove any contamination and fill the tank with the
[18:46] Speaker 1: nutrients that the baby sea dragons needed during the first
[18:51] Speaker 1: few weeks of their life. After being stirred for one minute,
[18:58] Speaker 1: the powder dissolved completely. For the next twenty four hours,
[19:08] Speaker 1: Dorian needed to keep the tank in a well lighted
[19:11] Speaker 1: area and away from any temperature extremes. He also had
[19:20] Speaker 1: to keep it out of direct sunlight to prevent any
[19:24] Speaker 1: disruption in the balance of bacteria, so he stationed the
[19:32] Speaker 1: tank on his desk under the lamp and not too
[19:37] Speaker 1: far from the window. Now, before he added the sea
[19:45] Speaker 1: dragon eggs, all he had to do was wait a day.
[19:55] Speaker 1: Seemed like a long time to Dorian. It was a
[20:00] Speaker 1: good thing that he had received those books, as reading
[20:06] Speaker 1: was one of his favorite things to do. With something
[20:11] Speaker 1: new to read, it shouldn't be too difficult to pass
[20:16] Speaker 1: the time. With this thought in mind, Dorian got ready
[20:24] Speaker 1: for bed and turned off the lights. After sliding beneath
[20:32] Speaker 1: the soft covers of his bed. He soon fell into
[20:37] Speaker 1: a deep, RESTful sleep. The next day brought rain showers.
[20:52] Speaker 1: This was the perfect excuse for Dorian to hold up
[20:56] Speaker 1: indoors and just be lazy. After a hearty, delicious breakfast,
[21:05] Speaker 1: he curled up on the sofa in the living room
[21:09] Speaker 1: next to his mother and began to read one of
[21:13] Speaker 1: his new books. It was the first one in the
[21:18] Speaker 1: Fantasy series. Dorian was an avid fan of mythology, and
[21:28] Speaker 1: the book was so good that he couldn't put it down.
[21:34] Speaker 1: The hours flew by as he read and read, stopping
[21:41] Speaker 1: only to eat lunch and dinner, and before he knew it,
[21:50] Speaker 1: the twenty four hours had come and gone. Now the
[21:57] Speaker 1: aquarium was ready and it was time to bring his
[22:01] Speaker 1: sea dragons to life. Dorian sat down at his desk.
[22:12] Speaker 1: After carefully taking out the packet of sea dragon eggs,
[22:17] Speaker 1: he poured the entirety of the contents into the tank.
[22:26] Speaker 1: As the powder fell, it really did look like magical dust,
[22:32] Speaker 1: glittering under the light of the lamp. Only seconds later,
[22:42] Speaker 1: Dorian saw the first sea dragons come to life. He
[22:49] Speaker 1: watched in awe as the tiny things swam through the
[22:55] Speaker 1: water their tails swishing back and forth almost rhythmically. More
[23:07] Speaker 1: and more sea dragons emerged from their eggs. They were
[23:13] Speaker 1: so tiny and with their long tails also kind of cute.
[23:24] Speaker 1: Dorian had read that the packet also included food to
[23:29] Speaker 1: get them through the first few weeks. The food had
[23:35] Speaker 1: been formulated specially for the sea dragon babies as they
[23:41] Speaker 1: started to swim. After that first round, it was up
[23:49] Speaker 1: to Dorian to feed the sea dragons. He could do
[23:55] Speaker 1: this by carefully positioning the tank on the desk near
[23:59] Speaker 1: the window. Here it would get enough sunlight to encourage
[24:07] Speaker 1: the growth of green algae for them to feed on,
[24:13] Speaker 1: and the manuals suggested that the creatures enjoyed their sunbathing.
[24:23] Speaker 1: Dorian spent the rest of the evening reading in his
[24:28] Speaker 1: beambag chair close to the aquarium. Every so often he
[24:36] Speaker 1: would glance over at the tank to watch the amazing
[24:40] Speaker 1: creatures dart back and forth in the water. They were
[24:47] Speaker 1: starting to adjust to their new environment. Dorian reflected on
[24:56] Speaker 1: how hardy the sea dragons were. They'd waited for such
[25:03] Speaker 1: a long period of time to get to this very moment.
[25:12] Speaker 1: According to the manual, sea dragons were able to lie
[25:17] Speaker 1: dormant in their eggs for decades. They would wait patiently
[25:25] Speaker 1: until the conditions were just right. Dorian admired their incredible
[25:32] Speaker 1: ability to adapt, and it was amazing to witness this
[25:41] Speaker 1: phenomenon in his own bedroom. He loved watching the creatures
[25:49] Speaker 1: as they happily swam through the water. They were no
[25:55] Speaker 1: doubt elated to have finally come out of their little
[26:00] Speaker 1: time capsules. Doriam was also happy to see that there
[26:07] Speaker 1: were so many of them keeping each other company. His
[26:17] Speaker 1: passion for the sea dragons only grew over the next
[26:21] Speaker 1: couple of weeks as he watched the tiny creatures thrive.
[26:31] Speaker 1: They certainly adored the sun. Every time he angled the
[26:37] Speaker 1: tank towards the window to give it access to the
[26:42] Speaker 1: warmth of the sun's rays, the sea dragons all seemed
[26:47] Speaker 1: to bask in the light. The sunlight also spurred on
[26:54] Speaker 1: the growth of microscopic green algae in the tank, just
[27:00] Speaker 1: as the manual had said it would. This provided the
[27:05] Speaker 1: sea dragons with ample food. But as the days went by,
[27:15] Speaker 1: Dorian noticed something quite strange. There just so happened to
[27:23] Speaker 1: be one sea dragon that stood apart from all the rest.
[27:31] Speaker 1: Its shape and features were quite different, and it was
[27:37] Speaker 1: growing considerably faster than the rest of its brothers and sisters.
[27:47] Speaker 1: Dorian would stare at this creature for great lengths of time,
[27:53] Speaker 1: in awe of its uniqueness. He had no idea what
[28:00] Speaker 1: he was looking at, but one thing was for sure.
[28:05] Speaker 1: This was no ordinary sea dragon. Maybe it wasn't even
[28:13] Speaker 1: a sea dragon at all. His parents agreed that the
[28:20] Speaker 1: creature was like nothing they had ever seen before. They
[28:27] Speaker 1: joked that it was the black sheep of the family.
[28:34] Speaker 1: That black sheep quickly became Dorian's favorite. Out of all
[28:41] Speaker 1: of the sea dragons, this one seemed to love the
[28:46] Speaker 1: sun the most. Keeping to that side of the tank.
[28:53] Speaker 1: It would almost plaster itself against the side to soak
[28:58] Speaker 1: in the rays. As time went on, the creature grew
[29:08] Speaker 1: bigger and bigger. Dorian was soon able to clearly distinguish
[29:16] Speaker 1: the features that set it apart from all the others
[29:20] Speaker 1: in the tank. This sea dragon had a long body
[29:29] Speaker 1: ending in an even longer tail, with a set of
[29:35] Speaker 1: arms and legs that were quite small in proportion, and
[29:42] Speaker 1: it had a head with a snout and nostrils that
[29:46] Speaker 1: seemed to flare at times, sending out a stream of
[29:51] Speaker 1: bubbles through the water. The entirety of its body. He
[30:00] Speaker 1: was covered with scales, gleaming, glittering scales of the deepest emerald, green,
[30:09] Speaker 1: and blue. Dorian was also struck by its eyes. The
[30:19] Speaker 1: sea dragon seemed to have a kind of awareness or intelligence.
[30:26] Speaker 1: Whenever Dorian would look at it, the sea dragon would
[30:31] Speaker 1: look right back at him. It even seemed to follow
[30:37] Speaker 1: Dorian's movements across the room, as if it felt the
[30:42] Speaker 1: most comfortable whenever the boy was around. Dorian loved the creature.
[30:54] Speaker 1: He named him Blaze because of his love of the
[30:58] Speaker 1: sun and the irrefutable fact that he now truly resembled
[31:05] Speaker 1: a dragon. He was just like the mythical creatures that
[31:12] Speaker 1: Dorian had read about in books. Blaze got so big
[31:22] Speaker 1: that soon Dorian had to purchase him his very own tank.
[31:30] Speaker 1: It was three times as large as the original one.
[31:38] Speaker 1: By this time, it was obvious that the creature was
[31:43] Speaker 1: something very special. Dorian was convinced that Blaze was a
[31:50] Speaker 1: real sea dragon, and although his parents said that this
[31:56] Speaker 1: kind of sea dragon only existed in Dorries, in his heart,
[32:03] Speaker 1: Dorian knew that they were real. Blaze swam just like
[32:13] Speaker 1: Dorian envisioned a sea dragon would swim. He glided through
[32:20] Speaker 1: the water effortlessly, with his tail undulating behind him like
[32:27] Speaker 1: a length of ribbon in the wind. Blaze also breathed
[32:34] Speaker 1: in and out through his nostrils to produce cascades of bubbles,
[32:42] Speaker 1: just like a dragon. On the day Dorian got the
[32:49] Speaker 1: bigger tank, he was so excited he filled it with
[32:56] Speaker 1: water and decorated it with a large Blaze might enjoy
[33:03] Speaker 1: draping himself across it in the sun, and then with
[33:10] Speaker 1: gentle hands, Dorian scooped Blaze up and out of the
[33:16] Speaker 1: smaller tank. Surprisingly, Blaze didn't seem to mind being out
[33:26] Speaker 1: of the water at all. He even nudged the boy's
[33:31] Speaker 1: hand in what felt like an affectionate gesture and looked
[33:37] Speaker 1: up at him knowingly. When he stroked Blaze's back, the
[33:45] Speaker 1: creature seemed to almost purr with delight, and steam came
[33:52] Speaker 1: out of his nostrils. Smiling, Dorian placed Blaze into the
[34:01] Speaker 1: water of his new tank and watched as the sea
[34:07] Speaker 1: dragon took in his new surroundings. Blaze curled up on
[34:14] Speaker 1: the rock just as Dorian thought he would, and gazed
[34:19] Speaker 1: at the boy with heavy lidded eyes. He seemed content
[34:26] Speaker 1: in the light of the afternoon sun. Weeks passed by,
[34:35] Speaker 1: and Blaze grew even bigger. Dorian had to buy yet
[34:41] Speaker 1: another tank, the largest the pet store had to offer.
[34:51] Speaker 1: At this point, Blaze was the size of a cat. Finally,
[34:58] Speaker 1: Dorian's parents had to admit that the creature might very
[35:03] Speaker 1: well be a sea dragon after all, and they too
[35:11] Speaker 1: had grown fond of him. They noticed the way Dorian
[35:17] Speaker 1: and Blaze doted on one another, and how the sea
[35:22] Speaker 1: dragon loved to be petted much like a cat. Blaze
[35:31] Speaker 1: was a creature of comforts, they liked to joke, and
[35:38] Speaker 1: he was a creature that was quickly growing. He would
[35:44] Speaker 1: soon need an environment that could accommodate him, one that
[35:49] Speaker 1: Dorian and his parents could not provide. Dorian knew that
[35:59] Speaker 1: the best care of action would be to release Blaze
[36:04] Speaker 1: into the wild. He would take him to the ocean. There,
[36:12] Speaker 1: the sea dragon would have all the room he could
[36:16] Speaker 1: ever need to grow and live. Also, if the family
[36:24] Speaker 1: released Blaze near their beach house, Dorian could visit him
[36:30] Speaker 1: whenever he wanted. Dorian was a little disappointed at the
[36:38] Speaker 1: prospect of letting Blaze go, but he understood it was
[36:44] Speaker 1: the right thing to do. He knew that Blaze yearned
[36:50] Speaker 1: for the freedom of the open waters of the ocean.
[36:56] Speaker 1: The sea dragon needed room to swim and some bathe
[37:01] Speaker 1: on the rocks to his heart's content, and so it
[37:09] Speaker 1: was decided the family would transport Blaze to the ocean
[37:16] Speaker 1: and release him. The day of the move, Dorian was
[37:24] Speaker 1: sad to say goodbye, but excited to grant Blaze the
[37:29] Speaker 1: freedom he deserved. Dorian's parents assured him that taking Blaze
[37:38] Speaker 1: to the ocean would allow the creature to have a long,
[37:43] Speaker 1: happy life, and it was a life that would always
[37:49] Speaker 1: include Dorian. His parents promised to take him to the
[37:55] Speaker 1: beach house whenever they could. Dorian was grateful to have
[38:03] Speaker 1: spent this much time with Blaze. Already, he would never
[38:10] Speaker 1: know how Blaze had come to be in that sea
[38:14] Speaker 1: dragon kit, but he would always feel lucky to have
[38:19] Speaker 1: had the chance to raise him, and he would take
[38:24] Speaker 1: every chance that came his way to go and visit him.
[38:33] Speaker 1: When they arrived at the beach house, Dorian felt better,
[38:40] Speaker 1: and he felt even more sure that this was the
[38:44] Speaker 1: right decision. As Dorian walked towards the ocean carrying the
[38:53] Speaker 1: sea Dragon, he looked down and smiled. Blaze looked back
[39:02] Speaker 1: up at the boy with wonder in his eyes. It
[39:09] Speaker 1: was almost as if he could smell the briny ocean air.
[39:16] Speaker 1: Maybe he knew that the sea was nearby and that
[39:21] Speaker 1: his freedom awaited. When they reached the shore, Blaze nestled
[39:31] Speaker 1: his snout against Dorian's neck before turning to gaze intently
[39:39] Speaker 1: out across the water. Dorian kicked off his shoes and
[39:48] Speaker 1: waded into the surf. When the waves reached his knees,
[39:56] Speaker 1: he carefully placed Blaze in the water. Then he watched
[40:05] Speaker 1: in awe as the sea dragon dived right in. As
[40:12] Speaker 1: he resurfaced, Blaze roared with joy, grinning, Dorian swam after him.
[40:26] Speaker 1: The two frolicked in the water as Dorian's parents watched
[40:32] Speaker 1: in amazement from the shore. Under the water, with the
[40:40] Speaker 1: waves over his head and with the sun sending pillars
[40:46] Speaker 1: of light down into the depths, Dorian felt so free.
[40:55] Speaker 1: He imagined it was the same sense of freedom that
[41:00] Speaker 1: the sea dragon must be feeling. Dorian swam a little
[41:08] Speaker 1: longer before rising out of the water. Blaze glided right
[41:17] Speaker 1: up to him, and the boy hugged his sea dragon
[41:22] Speaker 1: one more time before heading back towards the shore. As
[41:32] Speaker 1: he reached the sand. Dorian turned around one more time
[41:38] Speaker 1: to see Blaze shoot out of the water. He was
[41:45] Speaker 1: clearly so happy. The sea dragon gave Dorian a look
[41:54] Speaker 1: of gratitude before disappearing from sight on the water. Dorian
[42:05] Speaker 1: joined his parents on the beach, so the three of
[42:09] Speaker 1: them were side by side. As they gazed at the
[42:15] Speaker 1: sea together, Dorian continued to think about Blaze. He knew
[42:25] Speaker 1: in his heart that he had just helped one of
[42:28] Speaker 1: nature's most magnificent creatures. In doing this, he had ensured
[42:37] Speaker 1: the sea Dragon's survival and happiness. He also knew that
[42:47] Speaker 1: one day in the future he would come and visit
[42:52] Speaker 1: and discover that Blaze was fully grown. Maybe the sea
[42:58] Speaker 1: dragon would get give him rides through the water. How
[43:04] Speaker 1: wonderful that would be, thought Dorian, like something out of
[43:10] Speaker 1: a fairy tale. And as he walked to the beach
[43:18] Speaker 1: house with his parents, Dorian knew that his birthday gift
[43:27] Speaker 1: was one that he'd never forget.
