[0:28] Speaker 1: joining me again. I'm Tom, and I'm so happy you're
[0:33] Speaker 1: here for story time. We cherish having your company each
[0:38] Speaker 1: and every time you tune in. My friend Nadine is
[0:42] Speaker 1: here to read to us today. In this story, we
[0:47] Speaker 1: get to imagine what it's like to be a wiggly
[0:50] Speaker 1: little caterpillar, experiencing all the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and
[0:58] Speaker 1: sensations of these tiny creatures. What a treat. I can't
[1:05] Speaker 1: wait to listen, and remember, you're welcome to drift off
[1:10] Speaker 1: to sleep while you listen along. We'll experience it all
[1:16] Speaker 1: in our imaginations, of course, So get yourself comfortable and
[1:21] Speaker 1: snug in your bed or wherever you're listening from. Wrap
[1:28] Speaker 1: yourself in your blankets like a caterpillar in its cocoon.
[1:36] Speaker 1: Maybe you'd like to join me in closing our eyes,
[1:42] Speaker 1: and when you're ready, allow your imagination to open up.
[1:48] Speaker 1: As we begin our story.
[2:06] Speaker 2: Imagine you are slowly opening your eyes in your dream world,
[2:14] Speaker 2: like you are waking up from a lovely long nap.
[2:21] Speaker 2: Your vision is blurred and unfocused as you wipe the
[2:25] Speaker 2: sleep from your eyes, but you can begin to make
[2:29] Speaker 2: out the bright sun and vivid shades of green and
[2:35] Speaker 2: yellow surrounding you. On all sides. Spots of pale blue
[2:45] Speaker 2: peak through gaps in the smudges of green, the blue
[2:50] Speaker 2: sky backdrop, which you only ever see on such a
[2:55] Speaker 2: beautiful summer's day. Feeling a little foggy and confused after
[3:03] Speaker 2: your nap, you want to understand exactly where you are,
[3:10] Speaker 2: so you look ahead. A long, twisted and knotty path
[3:16] Speaker 2: stretches in front of you, leading into an explosion of
[3:22] Speaker 2: greenery and foliage. Your little hands come up to rub
[3:28] Speaker 2: your eyes so you can clear your sleepy head and
[3:33] Speaker 2: see clearly what is in front of you. You gasp
[3:39] Speaker 2: in astonishment as you realize that the long path you
[3:44] Speaker 2: are on is in fact a twig, a twig from
[3:51] Speaker 2: a tree similar to those you have seen many times
[3:56] Speaker 2: before in your garden or in your A twig which
[4:04] Speaker 2: would usually seem tiny and unremarkable to you, But now,
[4:11] Speaker 2: right here, in this very moment, you see the twig
[4:17] Speaker 2: in a whole new way, as though you have telescopic
[4:22] Speaker 2: eyes that make every detail seem bigger, brighter, and more interesting.
[4:32] Speaker 2: What could be happening here? You look around in amazement
[4:39] Speaker 2: at all of the many wonderful sights around you. There
[4:44] Speaker 2: are stunning leaves and foliage of an old oak tree.
[4:51] Speaker 2: The leafs surrounding you are huge, bigger than umbrellas, and
[4:59] Speaker 2: you can see thousands of tiny lines on them in
[5:04] Speaker 2: intricate patterns like veins. You notice droplets of water shimmering
[5:13] Speaker 2: on the surface of the leaves. Perhaps they have always
[5:19] Speaker 2: been here, but it's only here, up close, that you
[5:25] Speaker 2: can see them. The giant green leaves flutter playfully as
[5:31] Speaker 2: a gentle breeze sweeps through them, blowing a few off
[5:36] Speaker 2: and away into the field beyond. Acorns hang down in
[5:43] Speaker 2: clumps from leaves, their beautiful brown skin shining in the sun.
[5:51] Speaker 2: They look just like drops of chocolate. A few fall
[5:56] Speaker 2: from the branch with another gust of wind and to
[6:00] Speaker 2: the ground with a bomb. Following the descent of the
[6:05] Speaker 2: acorn towards the ground, you realize you are very high up. Indeed,
[6:13] Speaker 2: it is almost as though you are up in the clouds.
[6:18] Speaker 1: How did you.
[6:19] Speaker 2: Get up here, you see birds darting and dancing between
[6:25] Speaker 2: the branches right alongside you. They're green and yellow bodies,
[6:31] Speaker 2: soaring swiftly through the air and the leaves of the tree.
[6:37] Speaker 2: They are so graceful and speedy, like acrobats of the wind.
[6:46] Speaker 2: The birds appear to be brother and sister. You recognize
[6:50] Speaker 2: this from the way they tweetweek and mischievously chase one another.
[6:56] Speaker 2: They do not know tissue, and carry on with their
[6:59] Speaker 2: game until they are little dots on the horizon. You
[7:07] Speaker 2: smile at the skill and joy that these little creatures exhibit.
[7:16] Speaker 2: As you turn toward another branch of this tree, you
[7:19] Speaker 2: notice more scurrying and chirping sounds around you. What could
[7:26] Speaker 2: this be? One closer inspection, you notice squirrels running down
[7:34] Speaker 2: the tree trunk in a rapid gray and red flash
[7:38] Speaker 2: of fluff, their bushy tails flying behind them. You watch
[7:45] Speaker 2: the scurrying squirrels at work and realize they are quickly
[7:50] Speaker 2: gathering up the acorns before scuttling back up the large
[7:56] Speaker 2: old tree to store them away for their dinner. You
[8:03] Speaker 2: hear them chatter and scurry playfully, and smile to yourself
[8:09] Speaker 2: as they remind you of little children. Maybe they are
[8:15] Speaker 2: brothers and sisters, just like the birds. Amongst the grass
[8:21] Speaker 2: surrounding the tree way down below are bursts of color,
[8:29] Speaker 2: all the colors of the rainbow. These colors are made
[8:34] Speaker 2: up with beautiful wildflowers popping their heads up from the
[8:40] Speaker 2: tall countryside grass, adding splashes of purple, red, orange, yellow,
[8:49] Speaker 2: and blue to the blanket of green surrounding them. Cute
[8:56] Speaker 2: little daisies and baby buttercups around, proud red poppies, and
[9:03] Speaker 2: tall purple foxgloves tower above them, all like guardians standing watch.
[9:12] Speaker 2: How perfect you think to yourself before exploring further. The
[9:20] Speaker 2: wind whistles a summary song as it rustles the tall
[9:25] Speaker 2: grass and plants, picking up the scents from each flower
[9:30] Speaker 2: and carrying it on the breeze up to where you
[9:34] Speaker 2: are in the tree. You can smell pretty flowery smells,
[9:41] Speaker 2: some strong and some delicate. You can see fuzzy bumblebees
[9:49] Speaker 2: journeying from flower to flower like the postman, collecting deliveries
[9:56] Speaker 2: of pollen from each flower to take away to their hive.
[10:03] Speaker 2: Their low humming buzz joins in the winds summary tune,
[10:09] Speaker 2: and you breathe in deeply as you take in the
[10:13] Speaker 2: fresh air, happy to be enjoying the moment. Everything you
[10:20] Speaker 2: see before you is so familiar, sights which you have
[10:26] Speaker 2: seen many many times before. Still something seems quite different. Hmm,
[10:38] Speaker 2: what could this be? You wonder. As you're pondering this question,
[10:45] Speaker 2: mister B decides he has collected enough for his hive
[10:49] Speaker 2: and begins to fly up, up and up towards you
[10:54] Speaker 2: to catch a breeze which will help him to journey
[10:57] Speaker 2: home faster. As he gets closer, you realize he is
[11:04] Speaker 2: getting bigger and bigger. He is the same size as you. Now,
[11:13] Speaker 2: wondering what is going on, you look down at yourself.
[11:18] Speaker 2: Mister B wasn't getting bigger at all. He was the
[11:23] Speaker 2: same size as you the whole time, because you are,
[11:29] Speaker 2: in fact a caterpillar, a beautiful, long bodied green caterpillar,
[11:39] Speaker 2: living amongst the nature and all its fellow creatures in
[11:44] Speaker 2: the most personal and closest way you could imagine. How
[11:51] Speaker 2: funny you think looking at your plump body and your
[11:55] Speaker 2: six stumpy little legs. You are pea green with cool
[12:03] Speaker 2: yellow and black stripes, just like the bumblebee. You raise
[12:09] Speaker 2: a hand to wave as mister B buzzes off at
[12:12] Speaker 2: top speed to join his family and make delicious sticky
[12:17] Speaker 2: honey together. Wanting to know more about your new form,
[12:24] Speaker 2: you reach up and around your own body to investigate.
[12:30] Speaker 2: You feel too long antennae on the top of your head.
[12:35] Speaker 2: You have two huge eyes to help you see, but
[12:41] Speaker 2: your ears aren't on the side of your head anymore.
[12:45] Speaker 2: But of course, this is exactly the way a caterpillar
[12:49] Speaker 2: should be. You want to explore your surroundings in your
[12:55] Speaker 2: brand new body. Slowly, take it one step at a time.
[13:02] Speaker 2: You start to walk towards a cluster of leaves. Naturally,
[13:08] Speaker 2: your six legs follow each other in succession, and you
[13:13] Speaker 2: ripple along the branch with ease. It tickles your sides
[13:20] Speaker 2: in a way you weren't expecting. You giggle with every
[13:25] Speaker 2: movement and carry on chuckling away. As you continue on
[13:29] Speaker 2: your caterpillar journey, reaching the enormous leaves which flutter and
[13:36] Speaker 2: dance along the branch, you realize you have become quite
[13:41] Speaker 2: peckish with all the giggling and tickling and wiggling you
[13:45] Speaker 2: just did. In fact, you have suddenly become very hungry.
[13:54] Speaker 2: But what are you supposed to eat? What do caterpillars eat? Hmm?
[14:02] Speaker 2: You look up at the big leaf in front of you,
[14:06] Speaker 2: and it suddenly looks so delicious. Maybe that will taste good,
[14:14] Speaker 2: you think. You creep up to the nearest and most
[14:20] Speaker 2: delicious looking leaf, sit down on it, and take a
[14:25] Speaker 2: big caterpillar bite out of it. You cannot believe how
[14:31] Speaker 2: good it tastes. It's so crunchy and juicy, fresh and sweet,
[14:40] Speaker 2: like a lovely salad made especially for a bug. You
[14:48] Speaker 2: munch and munch until you've completely scoffed a whole leaf
[14:53] Speaker 2: to yourself. Yum Full and satisfied, you crawl back to
[15:01] Speaker 2: the branch. You wonder, hmm, what you could eat for dessert.
[15:09] Speaker 2: You really are going to look like a big, fluffy
[15:12] Speaker 2: marshmallow soon with this appetite, you remember the acorns that
[15:18] Speaker 2: looked as sweet and shiny as chocolate. Overcome by a
[15:24] Speaker 2: greedy pudding tummy and curiosity, you wiggle to an acorn
[15:30] Speaker 2: and stick out your little caterpillar tongue. You give it
[15:34] Speaker 2: a lick. What does it taste like? It doesn't taste
[15:40] Speaker 2: like chocolate at all, and it's too hard to munch.
[15:46] Speaker 2: Oh well, maybe it's better not to be greedy. You
[15:51] Speaker 2: decide to wait for something else sweet and tasty to
[15:55] Speaker 2: come along and catch your attention. You realize that as
[16:02] Speaker 2: you are now a wild creature, the things your body
[16:06] Speaker 2: needs and wants are sensed and found so easily. You
[16:13] Speaker 2: do not really have to want for anything. You just
[16:17] Speaker 2: need to be yourself and be with nature. By following
[16:23] Speaker 2: your instincts, the things you need will come to you
[16:27] Speaker 2: like magic. What a life. You look out the view
[16:35] Speaker 2: beyond the tree once more, and the pretty flowers and
[16:40] Speaker 2: the plants, the darting bugs, the chirping birds and buzzing bees,
[16:47] Speaker 2: all swooping and dancing amongst one another in a beautiful ballet.
[16:54] Speaker 2: You wish you could go play with them too. You
[16:58] Speaker 2: think to yourself, I will go join the rest of
[17:02] Speaker 2: the creatures in the gardens soon enough, introduce myself and
[17:07] Speaker 2: maybe play awhile. But right now I feel so terribly sleepy,
[17:15] Speaker 2: sleepier than I have ever felt. Ah ah. A sudden
[17:24] Speaker 2: urge for a nap comes over you. You're feeling awfully
[17:29] Speaker 2: tired from your big meal. You wrap yourself up in
[17:35] Speaker 2: a special homemade cozy caterpillar blanket. It's so comfy and welcoming,
[17:44] Speaker 2: you feel right at home in it. You made it
[17:48] Speaker 2: to yourself but you don't know how. It is alike
[17:54] Speaker 2: the world's most beautiful and comfortable duvet, and sparkly soft
[18:03] Speaker 2: and fluffy, and it fits your body as though it
[18:07] Speaker 2: were made just for you. You cover your whole body from
[18:14] Speaker 2: your head right down to your toes, and hang down
[18:19] Speaker 2: from a branch so no one can disturb you, hidden
[18:24] Speaker 2: behind lots of leaves and sheltered from the cool breeze.
[18:31] Speaker 2: Just as you are snuggling your head down into this
[18:34] Speaker 2: cozy caterpillar blanket, you see another caterpillar emerging from its
[18:40] Speaker 2: bed on a nearby leaf. In some ways, it looks
[18:46] Speaker 2: just like you, but it's not. As it crawls out,
[18:52] Speaker 2: you realize it has two big, beautiful wings fluttering on
[19:00] Speaker 2: its back. Whoa, you think, is that what I will
[19:05] Speaker 2: become soon? A butterfly? You watch as the butterfly flaps
[19:12] Speaker 2: its wings and saws off into the sky for the
[19:17] Speaker 2: very first time. What an amazing feeling that must be
[19:24] Speaker 2: to ride the wind and be completely free. Seeing what
[19:31] Speaker 2: you are soon to become makes you all the more
[19:34] Speaker 2: eager to snuggle up in your caterpillar blanket and drift
[19:40] Speaker 2: off to sleep. So that's exactly what you decide to do.
[19:46] Speaker 2: After sliding as far down into your handmade bed as
[19:51] Speaker 2: you can, you take a deep breath in and close
[19:56] Speaker 2: your eyes. The flowers and trees, the birds and the
[20:03] Speaker 2: bees all wishing you a good night. They can't wait
[20:10] Speaker 2: to see you emerge as a beautiful butterfly. You fall
[20:17] Speaker 2: so easily and gently into the sleep, it is as
[20:23] Speaker 2: though nature itself planted it just for you. What a
[20:29] Speaker 2: wonderful place to be. Cozy, warm, safe and settled in
[20:38] Speaker 2: your very own custom made bed. And as the sounds
[20:44] Speaker 2: of nature lull you to sleep, you drift into the
[20:49] Speaker 2: most pleasant of dreams about the wings you'll grow and
[20:54] Speaker 2: the adventures you'll have. But right now you're comfortable and
[21:01] Speaker 2: content where you are, snuggled up and safe in bed.
[21:09] Speaker 2: Good night, little dreamer, and sweet dreams Up.
[22:11] Speaker 1: Begins to
