[0:02] Speaker 1: Bloomberg Audio Studios, Podcasts, radio News. I'm Hannah Elliott and
[0:10] Speaker 1: I'm Matt Miller.
[0:11] Speaker 2: This is Hot Pursuit coming up on today's podcast.
[0:19] Speaker 1: I'm back from Las Vegas after attending the Formula one
[0:22] Speaker 1: Grand Prix, and I'll tell you all about that experience.
[0:26] Speaker 1: It was quite an experience. Also my latest headache with
[0:30] Speaker 1: the rolls, and I've been driving the Volvo X ninety
[0:33] Speaker 1: and EX thirty and Matt, I know you want to
[0:35] Speaker 1: hear about that.
[0:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, I very much care, especially about that last part,
[0:40] Speaker 2: because you know, my wife had a Volvo XC ninety
[0:45] Speaker 2: for a two year lease and she loved it so much.
[0:49] Speaker 2: But for me, the as I'm sure I've told you
[0:52] Speaker 2: a million times, the two liter four cylinder just wasn't
[0:55] Speaker 2: cutting it. And we had the hybrid version, so like
[0:58] Speaker 2: it was the most powerful possible Volvo, but that part
[1:02] Speaker 2: of it felt so unluxury to me that I convinced
[1:05] Speaker 2: her to get a Mercedes instead. Now that has come
[1:08] Speaker 2: with its own issues, most of them incredibly expensive issues.
[1:14] Speaker 1: That headlight, I remember you mentioned headlight five grand.
[1:17] Speaker 2: So so she has now vowed to go back to
[1:21] Speaker 2: Volvo because she's she loves the design I don't disagree
[1:25] Speaker 2: with her on that issue. Same but I think that
[1:28] Speaker 2: the EX ninety could solve the powertrain poverty that I
[1:35] Speaker 2: experienced in the XC ninety, So I'm interested. Plus, we
[1:39] Speaker 2: get to hear from you, our dear listener. We dip
[1:42] Speaker 2: into the Hot Pursuit mail bag for your comments and
[1:45] Speaker 2: answer some of your questions as well as thank you
[1:48] Speaker 2: for your participation. I've gotten so much feedback. Yes, it's
[1:53] Speaker 2: really it's really a lot of fun and you know,
[1:55] Speaker 2: a lot of conversations started because of this. So you
[1:58] Speaker 2: can always shoot us an email.
[1:59] Speaker 1: At it's Hot Pursuit at Bloomberg dot net.
[2:03] Speaker 2: Hot Pursuit at Bloomberg dot net. And typically, of course
[2:07] Speaker 2: we write back. Sometimes I've noticed like I won't write
[2:10] Speaker 2: back for a couple of months.
[2:12] Speaker 1: We will though in the end.
[2:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, because one guy wrote in with a couple of
[2:17] Speaker 2: guest suggestions and I took them to heart, and I
[2:20] Speaker 2: actually have booked the guests, but I never like got
[2:24] Speaker 2: back to him and said, dude, great idea. Thank you
[2:26] Speaker 2: for the segment.
[2:27] Speaker 1: So so we should consider this the response.
[2:30] Speaker 2: I'm excited to say. Nick Pinchuck, the CEO of snap
[2:34] Speaker 2: On Tools, is going to join us at a later.
[2:36] Speaker 1: Date, and this was one of the recommendations.
[2:38] Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a recommendation. Yeah, you know, I've had
[2:40] Speaker 2: him on my television show. He's a very outspoken CEO.
[2:45] Speaker 2: But also, like what an iconic brand snap On. You know,
[2:51] Speaker 2: if you're watching a race, or if you're watching a
[2:53] Speaker 2: movie about a race, or if you're watching you know,
[2:57] Speaker 2: a movie about a mechanic, or if you're in an
[2:59] Speaker 2: auto show like snap On, it's everywhere, right, I mean, yes.
[3:04] Speaker 1: I admit I was not intimately familiar with the snap
[3:07] Speaker 1: On universe, but I'm I know the name, and I
[3:11] Speaker 1: sort of vaguely knew, oh yeah, that's that's okay, Yeah
[3:14] Speaker 1: I get it, but I'm not I don't know the details.
[3:16] Speaker 1: So I'm actually really curious and excited to talk to him.
[3:18] Speaker 2: All right, So well, you know that that's coming up
[3:21] Speaker 2: to me. Snap On represents the pinnacle of tooling, and
[3:27] Speaker 2: I you know, especially having a lot of old Ducats,
[3:30] Speaker 2: spend a lot of time in the shop, and those
[3:33] Speaker 2: guys swear by these tools. Plus I watch a lot
[3:36] Speaker 2: of movies about races and you always see the logo everywhere,
[3:39] Speaker 2: But I could never find any to buy because they don't.
[3:43] Speaker 2: They're not for sale at you know, like your local
[3:46] Speaker 2: hardware story. It's like a B to B. It's real
[3:50] Speaker 2: really for professionals.
[3:51] Speaker 1: So professional grade exactly.
[3:53] Speaker 2: So occasionally I'll see the snap on delivery truck, you know,
[3:56] Speaker 2: throughout the years, I'll see it here and there, like
[3:59] Speaker 2: if I'm on a road trip or if I'm you know,
[4:01] Speaker 2: driving somewhere, and I always will pull over and try
[4:03] Speaker 2: and find the driver.
[4:05] Speaker 1: Why because you just want to grow out with him.
[4:07] Speaker 2: You know, because if you find the truck and the
[4:09] Speaker 2: guy has time, he will sell you tools.
[4:12] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[4:13] Speaker 2: So sometimes I'll see it and like I have a
[4:16] Speaker 2: couple hundred bucks in my pocket, and I'll pull over
[4:18] Speaker 2: and I'll buy like a screwdriver, you know, because they're expensive.
[4:21] Speaker 1: So this is this leads me to ask, how much
[4:24] Speaker 1: cash do you typically carry at any given time on tools?
[4:28] Speaker 2: It's not for that well, it sounds.
[4:31] Speaker 1: Like you're casually just dropping a couple hundos, like on
[4:34] Speaker 1: a tool.
[4:34] Speaker 2: I have to I carry, you know, cash. I don't
[4:37] Speaker 2: know why I carry. I don't usually need it, so I'll.
[4:41] Speaker 1: Kind of a thing. Some people are very into carrying cash,
[4:43] Speaker 1: and some people are like.
[4:44] Speaker 2: I want to always have it. I want to. Ever
[4:46] Speaker 2: since my college days, one of my older fraternity brothers
[4:49] Speaker 2: was like, I always keep it hidden hundred yeah, and
[4:52] Speaker 2: so I always do the same thing, Like with a
[4:53] Speaker 2: couple hundred bucks, I'll keep you know, two or three
[4:56] Speaker 2: c notes folded up in a secret place in my
[4:58] Speaker 2: wallet and that way, whenever I run into a snap on, dude.
[5:02] Speaker 1: There you go.
[5:03] Speaker 2: I have the money.
[5:04] Speaker 1: Make my day, all right?
[5:06] Speaker 2: What else should we get straight into the to the
[5:10] Speaker 2: mail bag? Yeah, we've had some really good emails lately.
[5:14] Speaker 2: One of them is from my brother in law. I
[5:16] Speaker 2: don't know if you saw that.
[5:18] Speaker 1: Let me pull it up love to say what the
[5:22] Speaker 1: he hello? From Matt's brother in law.
[5:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you can go ahead and read it.
[5:26] Speaker 2: The thing is, I know that he listens every week,
[5:29] Speaker 2: and I love the guy. He's a genius. He has
[5:33] Speaker 2: an amazing business and he has even better taste. But
[5:37] Speaker 2: I'd never really like bring him up on the podcast.
[5:40] Speaker 2: And he's like, dude, why aren't you calling me out?
[5:42] Speaker 1: You know you know what? And are we going to
[5:45] Speaker 1: say his name, Louise, We're going to say, Okay, so
[5:47] Speaker 1: we're saying it. Well, Louise, thank you for really a
[5:51] Speaker 1: very kind and thoughtful email. I love how you say
[5:56] Speaker 1: that you really like the contrast between us, that Hannah
[5:59] Speaker 1: is more find and euro oriented. Well, Matt shows his
[6:02] Speaker 1: brutal love for American muscle and pickup trucks. I have
[6:06] Speaker 1: to admit that I'm right in the middle. That makes
[6:08] Speaker 1: me so happy to hear because that's authentically who we.
[6:11] Speaker 2: Are, true, and he is get along.
[6:14] Speaker 1: He's get along.
[6:16] Speaker 2: You know. Louise is from Spain, but he's an architect
[6:19] Speaker 2: working in la And I think it's great that he
[6:22] Speaker 2: has a pickup truck. That was the first vehicle that
[6:25] Speaker 2: he bought here because he's wanted to, I think, integrate
[6:28] Speaker 2: better with American culture. Plus, he's a surfer, so he's
[6:31] Speaker 2: always carrying the board around. And then but since he
[6:34] Speaker 2: has this like elite level.
[6:36] Speaker 1: Of taste, yes, well he's European, yes.
[6:38] Speaker 2: And he I know he's he got advice from you
[6:41] Speaker 2: and Magnus and he picked up this amazing nine to
[6:45] Speaker 2: eleven sc it's nineteen eighty two SC three. Yeah, and
[6:51] Speaker 2: it's so cool to watch his business grow and to
[6:54] Speaker 2: watch him collect these these things. But one of the
[6:59] Speaker 2: one of the other things he talks about in his email,
[7:01] Speaker 2: and that we got more emails about. Is the Audi
[7:04] Speaker 2: R S six that I drove, yes last week. I
[7:08] Speaker 2: I can't stop thinking about it either and in both
[7:12] Speaker 2: the good So the good for me is that it
[7:14] Speaker 2: can haul so much and it's so quick, and I
[7:16] Speaker 2: think the design is beautiful. I wish more people And
[7:19] Speaker 2: I think you said this would drive station wagons than SUV's.
[7:23] Speaker 1: Yeah, get out of the arms race.
[7:25] Speaker 2: On the other hand, it's Audi has always had this
[7:27] Speaker 2: tagline what is it?
[7:30] Speaker 3: Uh?
[7:31] Speaker 2: I think it's duschebrung doush no foresprung dousch technique, which
[7:36] Speaker 2: is like advancement through technological you know, I got the
[7:40] Speaker 2: technique for sprung Dusche technique. Yeah. And the thing is
[7:44] Speaker 2: that's always been scary to me because this stuff breaks
[7:46] Speaker 2: and it just again it costs a lot of money
[7:49] Speaker 2: to fix and they have had issues.
[7:52] Speaker 1: Okay, So I really can't comment on that because I
[7:55] Speaker 1: haven't haven't ever owned an Audi, so I don't I
[7:58] Speaker 1: don't know if that's you know it sound. I have
[8:01] Speaker 1: to take your word for it, I guess.
[8:02] Speaker 2: Well, or we got we got an email yes from John.
[8:07] Speaker 1: I was just looking at that, so why do.
[8:09] Speaker 2: You go ahead? And tell us what John has to say.
[8:12] Speaker 1: John John says that he really agrees with you, Matt.
[8:15] Speaker 1: We were talking last week about the MMI, the sort of.
[8:20] Speaker 2: Uh infotainment system correct.
[8:22] Speaker 1: Inside the Audi, and I was saying that I really
[8:25] Speaker 1: didn't like the fact that you have to push pretty
[8:28] Speaker 1: hard on the screen for it to register. You can't
[8:30] Speaker 1: just brush it anyway. Matt loved it, and John agrees
[8:33] Speaker 1: with Matt. He is a five AUDI owner And that
[8:37] Speaker 1: is one thing that I really realized. People who love
[8:39] Speaker 1: oudies buy outis and keep buying outis they really stay
[8:43] Speaker 1: in the family. So that really is quite a testament.
[8:46] Speaker 2: But he had an issue, yes, with his first Q eight,
[8:50] Speaker 2: and this guy has gone through a couple of them exactly.
[8:53] Speaker 2: The engine had, I guess, some kind of scroll problem
[8:57] Speaker 2: which blows up the whole block. But he managed to,
[9:01] Speaker 2: through I think a lot of blood, sweat and tears,
[9:06] Speaker 2: get it returned in some way, shape or form. Not
[9:10] Speaker 2: that the you know, overall company took it back, but
[9:14] Speaker 2: the dealership and then he bought a new one, which
[9:17] Speaker 2: is like if I have a problem where my engine
[9:19] Speaker 2: blows up and I've only done like six figures, Yeah,
[9:23] Speaker 2: especially since they cost six figures. I think I would
[9:26] Speaker 2: be a little bit shy to buy another one.
[9:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, but again I'm OUTI does really engender
[9:31] Speaker 1: some loyalty for the people who really love them. Also,
[9:34] Speaker 1: I have to say, did you look at this photo
[9:36] Speaker 1: that John sent us. Yes, it's a picture of he
[9:40] Speaker 1: and his younger brother in about nineteen seventy six, and
[9:44] Speaker 1: it's the cutest, most Norman Rockwell style photo of two
[9:49] Speaker 1: little boys in front of a seventy three Mercedes Binz SL.
[9:54] Speaker 1: I can't tell which which SL, but maybe love it.
[9:58] Speaker 1: I can't anyway, it's I love it. Thank you for
[10:00] Speaker 1: sending that.
[10:01] Speaker 2: By the way, I love it when people send pictures,
[10:06] Speaker 2: obviously of their cars. And like our buddy Don, who's
[10:12] Speaker 2: helping me along in the nine to eleven Air Cold
[10:15] Speaker 2: nine to eleven search, has also sent pictures of his
[10:18] Speaker 2: Porsche's in the past, and he writes in this week
[10:22] Speaker 2: to say I should get an SC or the Carrera
[10:25] Speaker 2: three point two. He thinks that's the sweet spot and
[10:27] Speaker 2: I don't disagree. So between like nineteen seventy six and
[10:32] Speaker 2: nineteen eighty eight they I think is about the time
[10:36] Speaker 2: period where they built the sc and they were also
[10:41] Speaker 2: they were also treating the crossary so it won't rust
[10:44] Speaker 2: from nineteen seventy six on, and then the career three
[10:47] Speaker 2: point two. Everyone knows it's famous because people care a
[10:51] Speaker 2: lot about getting the G fifty transmission. I don't think
[10:53] Speaker 2: it's that much better than the nine fifteen, if you sure,
[10:56] Speaker 2: if you work in the nine fifteen. But I've been
[10:58] Speaker 2: hearing that a lot, although I didn't. I heard something
[11:01] Speaker 2: different from Magnus. He likes everything pre nineteen seventy four well,
[11:04] Speaker 2: and I.
[11:05] Speaker 1: Think Don would agree with that, because Don, in your
[11:08] Speaker 1: note you actually say the newer cars may be quote
[11:11] Speaker 1: unquote better, but they're also heavier, more complex, and really
[11:17] Speaker 1: that is true. There's something very elegant about the simplicity
[11:21] Speaker 1: of the earlier cars, both in how they drive, but
[11:23] Speaker 1: then also in maintaining them. I mean, the whole thing
[11:26] Speaker 1: about Porsche parts being interchangeable is really the bit the
[11:31] Speaker 1: foundation of what a lot of people, at least in
[11:33] Speaker 1: California and elsewhere. That's what got them into actually working
[11:37] Speaker 1: on their own Porsches, because on the earlier cars it's
[11:40] Speaker 1: all the same components. You can go to a swapmeat
[11:43] Speaker 1: or a flea market and buy what you need and
[11:46] Speaker 1: put it in yourself. It's easy, you can work on it,
[11:48] Speaker 1: and that's part of the joy. So I do see
[11:51] Speaker 1: the appeal of the earlier cars.
[11:52] Speaker 2: No, I have one hundred percent I see that appeal.
[11:55] Speaker 2: My main concern is that I won't be able to
[11:59] Speaker 2: fit in the older cars, although I should say my
[12:02] Speaker 2: brother in law is I think exactly my height, so
[12:04] Speaker 2: if it fits, oh totally I should. Also if Magnus Walker.
[12:08] Speaker 1: Fits, it's about your height.
[12:10] Speaker 2: I should fit as well. I had been toying with
[12:15] Speaker 2: the idea of just going back to a nine nine one,
[12:17] Speaker 2: which has really had before. And I think it's interesting
[12:20] Speaker 2: that you guys love your turbo so much because I've
[12:23] Speaker 2: been reading so much about the different generations one point
[12:27] Speaker 2: one and nine nine one point two where they go
[12:29] Speaker 2: from the naturally aspirated basically three point eight leader in
[12:33] Speaker 2: line six two a turbo charged three leader, and apparently,
[12:38] Speaker 2: well I know this also from experience, the turbocharged version
[12:42] Speaker 2: is a totally different drive, Like you're not chasing the
[12:45] Speaker 2: revs higher, trying to constantly make it scream.
[12:49] Speaker 1: As many people say. You don't have to rev the
[12:51] Speaker 1: nuts off it to get any type of performance and
[12:54] Speaker 1: that is really true. The thing about the earlier turbos too,
[12:58] Speaker 1: is they're not great cars in the canyons because you
[13:01] Speaker 1: have to keep the revs so high, and there's there's
[13:04] Speaker 1: such long shifting cars. They they're not as fun to drive.
[13:09] Speaker 1: They're harder to drive, they're hard to get You really
[13:12] Speaker 1: have the rev the nuts off to get power where
[13:14] Speaker 1: you need it. And also counterintuitively, you have to downshift
[13:17] Speaker 1: a lot of time, a lot of the time to
[13:19] Speaker 1: go faster. So it does take some no how, and
[13:22] Speaker 1: they're just not naturally as suited. They're great for wider, longer,
[13:27] Speaker 1: you know, straight roads.
[13:29] Speaker 2: So you mean the nine thirty that you guys have
[13:33] Speaker 2: earlier is not as good in the canyons, correct, But
[13:35] Speaker 2: the new ish turbo that you have.
[13:39] Speaker 1: Oh, you're talking about modern cars. So sorry, I just
[13:42] Speaker 1: I heard turbo and I'm thinking nine thirty.
[13:44] Speaker 2: No, no, I mean, so you guys got that nine
[13:47] Speaker 2: to nine to one turbo, right, which that's a dot
[13:49] Speaker 2: one but okay, but it's a turbo car.
[13:52] Speaker 1: Yes, yes, it's a Turbos. The King of the Hill
[13:54] Speaker 1: at that and now I think it's at two oh
[13:58] Speaker 1: six actually. Yeah, So all this to say we should
[14:01] Speaker 1: do that nine to eleven Buyer's Guide.
[14:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, we got it.
[14:04] Speaker 1: I think people want it.
[14:05] Speaker 2: They definitely, Well, it's certainly the ones who write to
[14:07] Speaker 2: us do. Like we got a message from a dude
[14:09] Speaker 2: named Dale and it just says in the subject line
[14:12] Speaker 2: use p car podcast and then the messages please do
[14:15] Speaker 2: this period, thanks period.
[14:17] Speaker 1: I love it. Get right to the point, Reveny. You
[14:20] Speaker 1: know what, I also find the shorter the email, the
[14:22] Speaker 1: more powerful the person because they get right to the point.
[14:25] Speaker 1: They don't have a lot of time, so you know,
[14:27] Speaker 1: Dale might actually be pretty high up the totem pole.
[14:30] Speaker 2: That's right, all right, So we will do that, and
[14:32] Speaker 2: again we thank you for writing in. We will continue
[14:35] Speaker 2: to read Digest and respond to your emails, and when
[14:41] Speaker 2: we come back, we'll hear about Hannah's Rolls Royce problems.
[14:45] Speaker 2: By the way, speaking of classic cars that have issues. Plus,
[14:50] Speaker 2: I'm going to get her advice on the Volvo issue.
[15:00] Speaker 2: Welcome back to Hot Pursuit from Bloomberg Radio. I'm Matt
[15:02] Speaker 2: Miller here with Hannah Elliott and Hannah, you continue to
[15:06] Speaker 2: have problems with your Rolls Royce, with one of your
[15:10] Speaker 2: Rolls Royces. First of all, is it the same one that.
[15:13] Speaker 1: Well, this is a continuation, yes, of the same one,
[15:17] Speaker 1: which is a seventy five Silver Shadow long wheelbase. It's
[15:20] Speaker 1: the first one that I ever got, and it's the
[15:24] Speaker 1: one that I actually drive the most unless I have
[15:26] Speaker 1: a press car. And it seems like it's a lot
[15:30] Speaker 1: of problems, but it's actually just the same problem that
[15:34] Speaker 1: has continually been misdiagnosed by the person working on it.
[15:40] Speaker 2: Charlie, no, oh, that's.
[15:43] Speaker 1: So, this is the problem, and so apologies if everyone
[15:48] Speaker 1: is tired of hearing about the dysfunctional relationship with these cars.
[15:50] Speaker 1: But I actually think it's important to talk about because
[15:55] Speaker 1: I think they look very glamorous and fun and you
[15:58] Speaker 1: know the truth of it too, that everybody who owns
[16:02] Speaker 1: these nose is they do take some time and consideration.
[16:06] Speaker 1: And this has been a particularly annoying instance where it's
[16:10] Speaker 1: the same problem. The car was dying, like on the
[16:15] Speaker 1: highway out with no warning, and you could restart it
[16:18] Speaker 1: and it start again and drive a little bit more
[16:20] Speaker 1: than it would die. So we thought it was probably
[16:22] Speaker 1: something with a fuel injection issue, a fuel pump issue,
[16:27] Speaker 1: and because Charlie, Charlie Agapo, who's sort of the known mechanic.
[16:34] Speaker 1: I've used him for years. We love him. He's a
[16:36] Speaker 1: known mechanic in LA. He is really backed up. So
[16:41] Speaker 1: instead of letting our car sit at Charlie's garage for
[16:44] Speaker 1: a month or two, we want to be driving it.
[16:47] Speaker 1: We went to somebody else who's in the valley, who
[16:51] Speaker 1: has an earring and he might be irish, and you know,
[16:56] Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't decide if I'm going to
[16:57] Speaker 1: name him or call him out or whatever. But we
[16:59] Speaker 1: went to this the guy thinking, you know, I don't
[17:02] Speaker 1: think he's crooked. But he delivered the car back twice
[17:08] Speaker 1: quote unquote fixed. But the same problem kept reoccurring. And
[17:14] Speaker 1: it's the inconveniences because he's in the valley, he's not closed,
[17:18] Speaker 1: and you got to drive out there, and you got
[17:19] Speaker 1: to take two cars unless you want to put the
[17:21] Speaker 1: car on a flatbed. It's a lot of logistical things
[17:24] Speaker 1: that take a lot of time. Yeah, it's not even
[17:26] Speaker 1: the expense, it's the time and inconvenience. Really, So this
[17:29] Speaker 1: has been I think it was probably two months ago
[17:32] Speaker 1: that the car first went in. Then it takes him
[17:34] Speaker 1: a while to you know, find his way around or whatever.
[17:37] Speaker 1: Whatever he delivers it back to our place. Well, no,
[17:41] Speaker 1: the first time he had his shop guy start to
[17:44] Speaker 1: drive it to our place and the car broke down
[17:46] Speaker 1: on the way with the same problem that he had
[17:48] Speaker 1: claimed he had fixed. So back to the shop. That goes.
[17:51] Speaker 1: Then the second time he drops it to our place
[17:54] Speaker 1: and I go to the to drive it the next day,
[17:56] Speaker 1: and the same problem happens again. It turns out this
[17:58] Speaker 1: was not And meanwhile we have paid for a new
[18:00] Speaker 1: fuel pump and a few other things. Turns out this
[18:04] Speaker 1: was not a fuel pump issue. It was a simple
[18:07] Speaker 1: issue in the fuse box where there were some crossed
[18:09] Speaker 1: wires literally, and they had not addressed it was a
[18:14] Speaker 1: fuse box issue. Anyway. The third time, now that he
[18:19] Speaker 1: came to deliver the car, he drops it off at night,
[18:23] Speaker 1: His shop guy drops it off, and I go out
[18:25] Speaker 1: there and the whole car looks like a Jackson pollock
[18:31] Speaker 1: of white paint on the front, on the hood, on
[18:34] Speaker 1: the hood of the car. And they had parked it
[18:36] Speaker 1: out in front of our house, and they hid the
[18:38] Speaker 1: key and they let they just left it like that.
[18:42] Speaker 1: And I am not precious about my cars, but that
[18:46] Speaker 1: was the final straw, and I was I couldn't believe
[18:51] Speaker 1: that this person who delivered it wouldn't have enough personal
[18:54] Speaker 1: pride and dignity to let anybody know this happened. They
[19:01] Speaker 1: just thought, I mean literally it.
[19:03] Speaker 2: Was it was it actual paint.
[19:05] Speaker 1: It was some sort of white. It's like spackle. It
[19:10] Speaker 1: was obviously off the well. We called the guy and
[19:15] Speaker 1: he had to send his guy and do some sort
[19:18] Speaker 1: of like deep polish buff and they did get it off,
[19:22] Speaker 1: but it was all over the hood and it just
[19:26] Speaker 1: it was kind of unbelievable to me that somebody would
[19:29] Speaker 1: And he claimed what happened is quote unquote the paint
[19:32] Speaker 1: came off the back of a truck that he was
[19:34] Speaker 1: following when he was dropping the car, so it just
[19:38] Speaker 1: literally got white. It probably was stucco. I think it
[19:43] Speaker 1: was like it looked like white paint. It was probably stucco,
[19:47] Speaker 1: some sort of construction material that literally was sprayed all
[19:52] Speaker 1: over the front and sides of the car. I mean,
[19:55] Speaker 1: I was sputtering, well, I have so many questions handle
[19:57] Speaker 1: on please please.
[19:59] Speaker 2: First of all, I want to point out that we
[20:02] Speaker 2: don't have a problem with guys who wear earrings.
[20:05] Speaker 3: You know, if you're a grown if you're a grown man,
[20:10] Speaker 3: I mean, it's maybe questionable, but if you're a grown
[20:14] Speaker 3: man and a Rolls Royce mechanic, then I have to
[20:17] Speaker 3: is the is this a dedicated.
[20:19] Speaker 2: Rolls Royce shop? M hm, it is so okay, that's weird. Yes,
[20:24] Speaker 2: Then from on your side, I have never been to
[20:28] Speaker 2: your house, but I imagine you and your husband that
[20:33] Speaker 2: you have like a giant car park filled with Corvettes,
[20:38] Speaker 2: Rolls Royces and Porsche's, Like, why not leave your Rolls
[20:42] Speaker 2: Royce at Charlie's for three months because you don't have
[20:44] Speaker 2: a shortage of vehicles from which to choose.
[20:47] Speaker 1: I know, I know, but you tend to have favorites,
[20:49] Speaker 1: don't you. This was my favorite, and you know you
[20:53] Speaker 1: cannot explain the emotional connection. There's no rhyme or reason.
[20:57] Speaker 1: It's just the one I like and I and I
[20:59] Speaker 1: wanted it. It's a fair point, and yeah, I learned
[21:02] Speaker 1: my lesson. I will wait for Charlie.
[21:04] Speaker 2: I also wonder because I always look at these classic
[21:09] Speaker 2: or you know, decades old cars, and thank god, I'd
[21:13] Speaker 2: love to have that. But I'm because I'm because I'm
[21:17] Speaker 2: such a coward, like in so many different parts of
[21:20] Speaker 2: my life.
[21:20] Speaker 1: Maybe or why maybe or not a food.
[21:22] Speaker 2: I'm always afraid and I always think about you and
[21:25] Speaker 2: this old Rolls Royce because you've had it for like.
[21:27] Speaker 1: Ten years, well five years, I've actually counted only five.
[21:31] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but you've not had any like seriously expensive
[21:35] Speaker 2: problems with it, right, You've never had to take it
[21:38] Speaker 2: to Charlie and he's like, that'll be fifteen grand.
[21:40] Speaker 1: No, No, this this whole thing, which was a two
[21:44] Speaker 1: month Rigamar role and the for sure the most I've
[21:49] Speaker 1: ever spent was five grand. Well, and that included buying
[21:54] Speaker 1: a fuel pump that wasn't needed.
[21:56] Speaker 2: And so that you're what you tell me about your
[22:00] Speaker 2: experience with these cars is what makes me lean into
[22:04] Speaker 2: maybe getting over my fears and buying one myself. But then,
[22:09] Speaker 2: I mean, this story isn't that bad because you've No,
[22:12] Speaker 2: it's not.
[22:12] Speaker 1: It's not really not bad.
[22:13] Speaker 2: You've made some bad choices in order to end up here, right.
[22:18] Speaker 1: Yes, I take full response. I've learned my lesson it.
[22:21] Speaker 1: Obviously it could have been this is very obviously first
[22:25] Speaker 1: world problem. It's not. What really bothered me was the
[22:29] Speaker 1: mentality of a person who would disrespect a Rolls Royce
[22:36] Speaker 1: and have no personal pride enough to just make a
[22:40] Speaker 1: call even try to cover it up. Why not try
[22:42] Speaker 1: to even the effort to try to cover it up.
[22:45] Speaker 1: And I'm like, I'm the little old lady who has
[22:48] Speaker 1: one car that she drives the chirts on Sunday, and
[22:50] Speaker 1: this is the car. And I just felt like, how
[22:55] Speaker 1: is this possible?
[22:56] Speaker 2: I totally get you know, this is the problem. Uh.
[22:59] Speaker 2: Into sixteen, I moved to Berlin and I had my
[23:06] Speaker 2: nine to eleven shipped over there, and then from the
[23:12] Speaker 2: you know, from the docks, I had it delivered to
[23:13] Speaker 2: the Portia dealership in Berlin and over there like the
[23:17] Speaker 2: company owns the dealerships. It's not like here with the
[23:19] Speaker 2: franchise model. And they had to make some changes to
[23:24] Speaker 2: make it road legal in Germany, and they listed all
[23:28] Speaker 2: these changes that they needed to make, said it was
[23:30] Speaker 2: going to cost ten thousand euros, and then left the
[23:35] Speaker 2: car outside in a parking lot, just completely covered in crap.
[23:40] Speaker 2: And I realized that they actually didn't need to make
[23:44] Speaker 2: all of those changes, and I was I couldn't believe
[23:47] Speaker 2: that they left it so dirty, and I actually was
[23:50] Speaker 2: so angry. I wrote a letter to the board. No way,
[23:53] Speaker 2: and the board confirmed my suspicion that you don't need
[23:58] Speaker 2: to make ten thousand dollars worth of changes. It's more like,
[24:01] Speaker 2: you know, uh, a few hundred dollars worth of things,
[24:05] Speaker 2: and that they should also clean the car, you know.
[24:08] Speaker 1: So there's something to that.
[24:10] Speaker 2: Making a little noise sometimes helps.
[24:12] Speaker 1: Yes, there's there is something to that. And I am
[24:15] Speaker 1: not a fastidious person. I am truly. If you saw
[24:20] Speaker 1: my if you saw my house, it's it's almost gray
[24:23] Speaker 1: garden sometimes over there. But you know it, I am
[24:26] Speaker 1: not uptight about that sort of thing. But you're right.
[24:30] Speaker 1: It's it's when you're paying for a service and they're
[24:33] Speaker 1: already they've already messed up. The least they can do
[24:38] Speaker 1: is make sure the car is clean and.
[24:41] Speaker 2: Exactly you know, they got to clean the car.
[24:43] Speaker 1: Yeah, it just and this was like beyond cleaning. This
[24:46] Speaker 1: was I mean, I was glad that we were able
[24:49] Speaker 1: to fix the situation. But so did you get your
[24:52] Speaker 1: money back?
[24:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they they did me right good until
[24:59] Speaker 2: I left you Will Germany. Then I had to sell
[25:02] Speaker 2: that because you know, when I moved there in twenty sixteen,
[25:05] Speaker 2: it was like a little over four thousand dollars to
[25:07] Speaker 2: ship the car, which was why I figured that's no brainer.
[25:10] Speaker 2: I'll bring the Porsche back to its home where it belongs,
[25:13] Speaker 2: you know, and drive it. Right. When I moved back
[25:17] Speaker 2: to the US in twenty twenty one, it was like
[25:21] Speaker 2: twenty grand to ship it back, so I thought, yeah,
[25:26] Speaker 2: I'm gonna just sell it instead. So I took it
[25:28] Speaker 2: to the same place, and partly because of me being
[25:34] Speaker 2: so disorganized, they made me a low ball offer that
[25:37] Speaker 2: I took. Really I kind of regret it, but I
[25:40] Speaker 2: used that chunk of that change to buy my house.
[25:43] Speaker 2: I just I just sent you this, this car that
[25:46] Speaker 2: I've been looking at, and bring a trailer. And I'm
[25:48] Speaker 2: always looking at these older Ferraris and and scared that
[25:53] Speaker 2: you know, they go for fairly affordable prices, sometimes, you know,
[25:57] Speaker 2: less than one hundred thousand dollars for cars that looks
[26:00] Speaker 2: so clean and beautiful, And I figure the reason that
[26:03] Speaker 2: they go for so little, the same is true of
[26:05] Speaker 2: like a Bentley Continental, right, is that the buyer is
[26:09] Speaker 2: going to inevitably have to put tens of thousands of
[26:11] Speaker 2: dollars into it. I think of your Roles, Royce, and
[26:15] Speaker 2: I'm and it kind of assures me that maybe I
[26:18] Speaker 2: won't have to. But I saw this nineteen eighty five.
[26:22] Speaker 2: It's a European spec Ferrari three eight.
[26:24] Speaker 1: Gts, so pretty to me.
[26:26] Speaker 2: When you say Ferrari, this is what I think of. Yeah,
[26:30] Speaker 2: because I grew up watching magnum Pi and I desperately
[26:37] Speaker 2: want one of these cars ever since I drove that
[26:40] Speaker 2: three fifty five, which is admittedly a newer version. I've heard.
[26:44] Speaker 2: I've heard that wail I used the gated shifter, and
[26:47] Speaker 2: I want one myself. But this guy has what looks
[26:50] Speaker 2: like the cleanest three o eight you've ever seen. And
[26:53] Speaker 2: he says in the comments that he hasn't changed the
[26:55] Speaker 2: timing belts in thirteen years. Thirteen years.
[27:00] Speaker 1: I see that.
[27:01] Speaker 2: It's insane because you're supposed to. Ferrari said you should
[27:05] Speaker 2: change him every three years. And then people are like, eh,
[27:08] Speaker 2: you know, every five years is fine. Maybe if it's
[27:11] Speaker 2: a newer belt, they last longer, I guess. So you
[27:13] Speaker 2: can get away with six or seven.
[27:15] Speaker 1: But those are going to need some attention.
[27:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, And then and then I have this fear that
[27:20] Speaker 2: it's going to cost ten thousand dollars. But apparently you
[27:22] Speaker 2: don't have to take the engine out of this thing.
[27:24] Speaker 2: And some brave souls just order a belt and do
[27:28] Speaker 2: it themselves in the garage.
[27:30] Speaker 1: Wow, that's what they just watch a YouTube video or.
[27:33] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll post this, by the way, I'll post this.
[27:36] Speaker 2: I'll post a picture of this on my Instagram so
[27:38] Speaker 2: you can see how beautiful. Plus there's a couple of
[27:41] Speaker 2: days left in the auction, so you can tell me
[27:43] Speaker 2: if I should bid or not.
[27:45] Speaker 1: And this has no recorded accidents, no thirty nine thousand
[27:50] Speaker 1: miles shown.
[27:51] Speaker 2: Yep, it's a I mean, I'm sure it's not going
[27:54] Speaker 2: to be a fast car, right, it's less than three
[27:57] Speaker 2: liters v eight it's since it's a car from nineteen
[28:02] Speaker 2: eighty five, it has I think two hundred and thirty
[28:04] Speaker 2: horse power, it says in the ad somewhere nice.
[28:07] Speaker 1: But you know what it's it's so cool, doesn't It's
[28:10] Speaker 1: so light.
[28:10] Speaker 2: It's so cool. And the point of it is, you know,
[28:13] Speaker 2: when I think you made a comment last week about
[28:16] Speaker 2: the Porsche Cayenne EV, Barry Ridholtz is like, oh, it's
[28:19] Speaker 2: over a thousand horse power, and Porsche has been Porsche
[28:23] Speaker 2: has been posting on Instagram that it goes zer to
[28:25] Speaker 2: sixty and whatever two and a half seconds. But you
[28:28] Speaker 2: made a point that microwave is going to cook your
[28:30] Speaker 2: food faster.
[28:31] Speaker 1: And yet and yet here we are out in the
[28:34] Speaker 1: backyard drilling it up.
[28:36] Speaker 2: So I don't care about the speed. I just want
[28:39] Speaker 2: to have the sound and the vibes and the experience
[28:42] Speaker 2: of getting there totally. On the other hand, I don't
[28:46] Speaker 2: want a basket case, right. And the other problem with
[28:48] Speaker 2: this for me, this is where the height comes into it.
[28:51] Speaker 2: I'm six three. I think Tom Selleck was six', four
[28:58] Speaker 2: so a little bit taller than. Me but Apparently magnum
[29:02] Speaker 2: P i was filmed for eight great. Seasons what an amazing.
[29:06] Speaker 2: Show And ferrari Initially magnum Or Tom selick sorry wanted
[29:11] Speaker 2: To porsia nine to twenty eight And porsche refused to
[29:15] Speaker 2: give them a car for the. Filming, WHY i don't.
[29:19] Speaker 2: Know porsche, was As Doug DeMuro, Says porscha was like
[29:22] Speaker 2: a hobby shop that wasn't a real business at the.
[29:24] Speaker 2: Time it was just a group of guys that liked
[29:27] Speaker 2: to make cars In, germany SO i guess they didn't
[29:29] Speaker 2: see the business. Opportunity, ferrari on the other, hand was, like,
[29:31] Speaker 2: yes we'll give you a new car every. Season so
[29:34] Speaker 2: every season they gave him a three. Eight that, way
[29:36] Speaker 2: it was updated and MAYBE i don't know how late
[29:40] Speaker 2: the show, went maybe it went to a three twenty eight.
[29:41] Speaker 2: Eventually but the one thing that they had to do
[29:44] Speaker 2: to customize the car was they had to shave the
[29:46] Speaker 2: foam off the seat and then put in new rails
[29:52] Speaker 2: to move the seat even further back than it. Was
[29:55] Speaker 2: oh interesting because and also anytime they Filmed Tom selik
[29:59] Speaker 2: in the, car they had to take off the target
[30:03] Speaker 2: top because still his head didn't fit under the.
[30:07] Speaker 1: Roofline, well that is a real consideration and what got.
[30:12] Speaker 1: Me my first classic car THAT i owned was AT Sl.
[30:15] Speaker 1: Mercedes and the, reason the true reason WHY i never
[30:20] Speaker 1: kept that car for very, long was because it was
[30:23] Speaker 1: too short for. Me AND i think it's had some
[30:25] Speaker 1: seats that weren't, original and they were too they were,
[30:28] Speaker 1: overstuffed BUT i COULD i could never get comfortable in
[30:30] Speaker 1: it because my head was touching the. Roof so it's
[30:33] Speaker 1: a valid concern because that just completely colors your whole
[30:37] Speaker 1: experience with the. Car if you're not comfortable in that,
[30:39] Speaker 1: seat even if you can technically fit into, it it
[30:42] Speaker 1: JUST i get it all.
[30:44] Speaker 2: Right that covers the classic cars we're going to talk
[30:47] Speaker 2: about the new stuff when we come. Back, well the
[30:50] Speaker 2: new new Is hannah's trip To Las. Vegas she went
[30:55] Speaker 2: to see The formula one. Race we'll hear all about
[30:58] Speaker 2: the dramas surrounding that In Sin city and The volvo
[31:03] Speaker 2: E x ninety and ex thirties that she's. Driving I'm
[31:06] Speaker 2: Matt miller With Hannah. Elliott you're listening To Hot. Pursuit
[31:16] Speaker 2: I'm Matt miller With Hannah. Elliott you're listening To Hot.
[31:18] Speaker 2: Pursuit AND i never thought we would do one segment
[31:21] Speaker 2: where we went Mentioned volvo And formula one in the same. Sentence,
[31:25] Speaker 2: yeah BECAUSE i, MEAN i feel LIKE i remember when
[31:30] Speaker 2: Hat Kan, samuelson who was A ceo and NOW i
[31:34] Speaker 2: think is THE ceo again Globally they brought him. Back
[31:39] Speaker 2: at one point he said they never need to make
[31:42] Speaker 2: their cars go over one hundred and eighty kilometers an.
[31:44] Speaker 1: Hour, oh, interesting.
[31:46] Speaker 2: Because they felt like their client tell wasn't that's not
[31:50] Speaker 2: why you buy A, volvo which is. Fair, interesting which is,
[31:53] Speaker 2: Fair although it just kind of bummed me out because you,
[31:57] Speaker 2: know in the autobahn where you would you, know seeing Many, Volvos,
[32:02] Speaker 2: yes a lot of places you want to be able
[32:05] Speaker 2: to do two.
[32:05] Speaker 1: HUNDRED i also think some of the wagon bro contingent
[32:10] Speaker 1: could really get into going quick in A Volvo wagon right, Right.
[32:15] Speaker 2: And now that you have THE ev, versions they do
[32:19] Speaker 2: go very, fast much like The KYENNE. Ev you, know
[32:23] Speaker 2: they have the instant torque like EVERY, ev and they
[32:26] Speaker 2: probably can do zero sixty in less than an Old.
[32:29] Speaker 1: CARRERA i have to, say you may be disappointed.
[32:32] Speaker 2: Again all, Right so let's let's hear about the E
[32:35] Speaker 2: x ninety because the design is. Gorgeous it's, RIGHT i love.
[32:38] Speaker 1: IT i think if you have to get a big,
[32:40] Speaker 1: suv especially if it's an electric, suv you could do
[32:44] Speaker 1: far worse than The VOLVO ex. Ninety if we're going
[32:48] Speaker 1: to talk about that one. FIRST i don't know HOW
[32:50] Speaker 1: i feel about the wheels the ONE i. Drove they're
[32:54] Speaker 1: very blade. Like they're of course optimized for aerodynamic. Efficiency
[33:00] Speaker 1: let me know what you, Think. Matt when you pull it,
[33:02] Speaker 1: UP i will say to your. Point now THE ex
[33:07] Speaker 1: ninety comes. In you, know a twin motor and a
[33:10] Speaker 1: twin motor. Performance they both cost over eighty thousand, dollars
[33:14] Speaker 1: which is a little bit, expensive and they both weigh
[33:17] Speaker 1: about six thousand, pounds so a lot of the power
[33:21] Speaker 1: that we get from the electric battery is eaten up
[33:25] Speaker 1: by the. Weight And volvo is saying on the website
[33:30] Speaker 1: that zero to sixty is five point seven, seconds which isn't.
[33:35] Speaker 2: Idea it's not lightning, quick but it's still light. Quick
[33:38] Speaker 2: it's faster than That ferrari zero.
[33:41] Speaker 1: Sixty, yeah BUT i think we both know which one
[33:44] Speaker 1: we'd want to we'd rather be seen. In. Yeah but
[33:47] Speaker 1: but all that to, say if you're going to get
[33:49] Speaker 1: a big electric, SUV i think The Volvo ex ninety
[33:52] Speaker 1: is a really strong. Performer you should certainly consider. IT
[33:56] Speaker 1: i actually love the, interior which is very it's very.
[34:02] Speaker 1: Minimal there is a big screen in the, center but
[34:05] Speaker 1: they really keep it to one screen and the rest
[34:07] Speaker 1: is very light and. Airy AND i will be posting
[34:11] Speaker 1: pictures of these on My instagram account It's Hannah ELLIOTT,
[34:15] Speaker 1: xo so you can, see for, instance the wheels and the.
[34:18] Speaker 2: Interiors the wheels are like, pinwheels you, know do.
[34:22] Speaker 1: You like that or? No i'm not necessarily a. Fan,
[34:25] Speaker 1: Yeah AND i did ask On instagram like if people like,
[34:30] Speaker 1: them and a lot of people do like, them SO
[34:32] Speaker 1: i understand there is an, appeal BUT i also, thought
[34:36] Speaker 1: on a different, note the interior of THE x ninety
[34:39] Speaker 1: was really beautiful. Too they they are not using leather,
[34:43] Speaker 1: now they're using all natural textures and renewable. Materials and
[34:49] Speaker 1: the interior seats of this car are like a really.
[34:52] Speaker 1: Beautiful it looks like. Cashmere it's. Not it's a. Gray
[34:56] Speaker 1: it's a very nice.
[34:57] Speaker 2: SHOP i like the sculpted look of the seats me.
[35:00] Speaker 2: Too WHEN i hear that it's not that they're not using,
[35:02] Speaker 2: LEATHER i always go back to your comment on luxury
[35:06] Speaker 2: where you point out that they have to be real. Materials, Now,
[35:09] Speaker 2: okay if it's cashmere or if it's you, know any
[35:12] Speaker 2: kind of wool or, cotton that's a real sure. Material
[35:15] Speaker 2: and they, Do i'm sure use real. WOOD i mean
[35:18] Speaker 2: it looks like they could use teak wood in.
[35:19] Speaker 1: Evolvough, yes AND i KNOW i need to check on,
[35:23] Speaker 1: this but in previous vehicles they've also used like cork,
[35:26] Speaker 1: before which is. Interesting and also there are some COMPANIES
[35:31] Speaker 1: i think will bost on this too where they use
[35:32] Speaker 1: like recycled paper. Products in THE ex thirty that's the
[35:37] Speaker 1: smaller electric suv THAT i also. Drove they did an
[35:41] Speaker 1: interior with recycled denim THAT i also thought looked very.
[35:46] Speaker 1: Cool and THE ex, thirty if we're going to pivot
[35:49] Speaker 1: to that for just a, second it actually starts at
[35:52] Speaker 1: thirty eight, grand a little over thirty eight. Grand it's
[35:55] Speaker 1: like thirty eight three point fifty something in, there WHICH
[36:01] Speaker 1: i can't. Believe it's that inexpensive of a price for
[36:05] Speaker 1: AN EV. Suv it's a, small, small BUT i thought
[36:08] Speaker 1: that was really.
[36:09] Speaker 2: Fair, WELL i mean it depends right how much of
[36:13] Speaker 2: it is made In china would be my first question
[36:16] Speaker 2: to THE.
[36:17] Speaker 1: Ceo does that? MATTER i mean it.
[36:20] Speaker 2: Doesn't it doesn't, matter LIKE i don't care about the.
[36:24] Speaker 2: Region but you, know a lot Of americans will have
[36:28] Speaker 2: a problem with. THAT i should, say it doesn't matter to, me,
[36:32] Speaker 2: okay but a lot of people will have real problems with.
[36:36] Speaker 1: That AND i think THE ex, THIRTY i should, say
[36:39] Speaker 1: sorry to, interrupt the E x thirty is made In.
[36:41] Speaker 1: Belgium THE ex ninety is made In china and Also,
[36:45] Speaker 1: Ridgeville South.
[36:47] Speaker 2: Carolina wait do you KNOW i mean the other the
[36:50] Speaker 2: other way? Around THE ex thirty is made In. Belgium
[36:53] Speaker 2: oh it, Is, YEAH i, See because they had produced
[36:57] Speaker 2: it in jang Ji kao In, china AND i guess
[37:01] Speaker 2: they're shifting, things, yes but of course all those owned By,
[37:06] Speaker 2: jili which is WHY i would ask the. Question, sure of,
[37:07] Speaker 2: course AND i don't care where it's, made BUT i
[37:10] Speaker 2: do want it to be. Quality and you just maybe
[37:13] Speaker 2: it's a stereotype that's informed by. PREJUDICE i just feel,
[37:17] Speaker 2: like where'd they make them? Before goldenberg And?
[37:20] Speaker 1: Sweden, YES i just well they still they still make
[37:24] Speaker 1: some of their vehicles. There it's not.
[37:25] Speaker 2: These just you get the sense that those old like
[37:30] Speaker 2: two forties were over engineered and incredibly high. QUALITY i
[37:35] Speaker 2: drove my two forty Station wagon FOR i think two
[37:40] Speaker 2: hundred and fifty thousand miles without. Oil.
[37:42] Speaker 1: Amazing, WELL i was going to ask if The china
[37:45] Speaker 1: thing for you was more of a political stance or
[37:47] Speaker 1: more of a quality of.
[37:49] Speaker 2: Materials, no one hundred percent. QUALITY i have no political.
[37:52] Speaker 2: Issues AND i also recognized that in some in some,
[37:57] Speaker 2: ways The chinese have mastered copy being production methods as.
[38:01] Speaker 2: Well so for some, products you, know they make them
[38:04] Speaker 2: just as well as anybody.
[38:05] Speaker 1: Else everybody says that b Wyde e cars in particular are,
[38:09] Speaker 1: astounding AND i really want to get into. One, yes
[38:12] Speaker 1: anyone says it's. INCREDIBLE i hear.
[38:13] Speaker 2: That FROM us CEOs. So but there's something that a
[38:21] Speaker 2: lot Of americans will not appreciate about A chinese made.
[38:26] Speaker 2: CAR i, mean for one, thing you, know labor standards
[38:28] Speaker 2: just are not the same In china as they are
[38:33] Speaker 2: in The western. World so it depends how you feel
[38:36] Speaker 2: about what people are getting, paid what they're being made to.
[38:38] Speaker 2: Do but that's a one way to keep the cost,
[38:42] Speaker 2: down you, know and that's for, decades that's what we've.
[38:45] Speaker 2: Done so it's. INTERESTING i just to me the combination
[38:50] Speaker 2: of not engineering it for, speed keeping the cost down
[38:56] Speaker 2: by doing a lot of manufacturing In, china and THEN
[38:59] Speaker 2: i look at the, interior which the design of it
[39:03] Speaker 2: has always been, beautiful but they kind of miss the
[39:05] Speaker 2: mark on the infotainment with me every. Time and in
[39:08] Speaker 2: the new vehicle as. Well The ex ninety has a,
[39:10] Speaker 2: giant you, know vertical screen like a big forward lightning
[39:15] Speaker 2: or like A dodge you, Know RAM, trx which are
[39:20] Speaker 2: Not i'm not SAYING i don't like those, products BUT
[39:22] Speaker 2: i don't like this huge vertical screen like someone just
[39:24] Speaker 2: glued an iPad to the middle of my. DASHBOARD i.
[39:27] Speaker 1: AGREE i actually do agree with, that AND i also
[39:30] Speaker 1: IT i think it's a miss that you have to
[39:33] Speaker 1: go in multiple layers into the screen in order to
[39:37] Speaker 1: adjust side, mirrors in order to address the steering. Wheel
[39:41] Speaker 1: you have to literally punch through multiple layers in that
[39:44] Speaker 1: system before you can even. ADJUST i DON'T i think
[39:47] Speaker 1: that's a. MISS i think you should have some sort
[39:49] Speaker 1: of Tangible.
[39:50] Speaker 2: YEAH i, mean we've talked about it a million, times
[39:53] Speaker 2: AND i think most automakers are realizing they need to
[39:56] Speaker 2: turn this. Back it's just. Hard it takes forever to do.
[40:00] Speaker 2: It and but it's a great contrast To formula one
[40:03] Speaker 2: because they've got a button for everything in those.
[40:06] Speaker 1: Cars, yeah they. Do and it was kind of a wild.
[40:10] Speaker 1: WEEKEND i, mean we don't have to report the. News
[40:12] Speaker 1: everyone knows max verstaff in one and also kind of
[40:16] Speaker 1: now has a chance to win the whole thing or
[40:19] Speaker 1: two races, left so it Was, ah both McLaren cars
[40:24] Speaker 1: were cancer or were. Disqualified they were, canceled they were,
[40:27] Speaker 1: disqualified and the main race that.
[40:31] Speaker 2: Round has not been canceled.
[40:32] Speaker 1: Yet, no, no he has. Nothing, yeah well yeah. Exactly
[40:36] Speaker 1: BUT i will say this weekend AT f one was so.
[40:42] Speaker 1: Intense the amount of corporate partnerships matt that are happening is.
[40:48] Speaker 1: Insane And i'm not just talking about the one billion
[40:51] Speaker 1: dollar partnership WITH lvmh And mattel And Hot. Wheels i'm
[40:57] Speaker 1: also talking about The lego, partnership the Hell kiddie partnership
[41:01] Speaker 1: WITH f One, academy WHICH i have a lot of
[41:04] Speaker 1: mixed feelings. About.
[41:05] Speaker 2: WAIT f One academy is for women, racers?
[41:08] Speaker 1: RIGHT i hate THE i hate the term women.
[41:11] Speaker 2: Racer, okay so that is.
[41:13] Speaker 1: Offensive, no it's not your, fault but this term is.
[41:18] Speaker 1: Racer but they're not allowed to be a.
[41:20] Speaker 2: Dude, right they can't be a?
[41:22] Speaker 1: Dude why is the default? Dude you don't say women?
[41:25] Speaker 1: Doctor you, know because lady? Journalists?
[41:27] Speaker 2: No? Because, okay, okay but Listen formula, one the main,
[41:34] Speaker 2: series there's no gender. Limit you can be whatever gender
[41:39] Speaker 2: the team, wants, right.
[41:40] Speaker 1: Well the trans.
[41:41] Speaker 2: Driver what in IN f One academy there is a
[41:46] Speaker 2: specific gender that you have to be or identify as
[41:50] Speaker 2: before you're allowed to. Race? Right AM i wrong about? That?
[41:53] Speaker 1: No you're not. Wrong, Okay so This i've turned this
[41:56] Speaker 1: over in my head since they announced. It it's led
[41:59] Speaker 1: By Susie wolf who's married To Total, wolf who we all.
[42:03] Speaker 1: Love we Love, susie we Love. Toto they're a power.
[42:06] Speaker 1: Couple they're.
[42:06] Speaker 2: Amazing they smell.
[42:07] Speaker 1: Delicious, yes they've gotten so well, dressed clean teeth and polished,
[42:11] Speaker 1: hair and they sleep it every night ten hours and they're.
[42:14] Speaker 1: Perfect BUT i have so many mixed feelings about this whole.
[42:21] Speaker 2: ACADEMY i think it's.
[42:23] Speaker 1: Great why it's. Segregated it. Is i'm instantly going to
[42:27] Speaker 1: take the opposing view of, you just because it's my knee.
[42:29] Speaker 2: Jerk thank. You but it is. Segregated BUT i think
[42:34] Speaker 2: it's okay to do it for a little while while
[42:36] Speaker 2: women need a leg, up or rather a more specific
[42:43] Speaker 2: funnel to get them onto the Real Grand prix center.
[42:48] Speaker 2: Stage because right now there's probably some kind of Institutional.
[42:54] Speaker 1: I'm, twitching keep, going keep.
[42:56] Speaker 2: Going sexism that exists and keeps them out of them.
[43:00] Speaker 2: Event i'm trying my hardest to argue what from the left, Here.
[43:06] Speaker 1: So how does keeping them in their own series fight
[43:10] Speaker 1: the sexism that is keeping them out of the main.
[43:12] Speaker 2: Event, yeah, NO i don't disagree with.
[43:15] Speaker 1: You here's the here's the PROBLEM i have with.
[43:17] Speaker 2: It even worse is Getting Hello kitty to be a.
[43:19] Speaker 2: SPONSOR i agree to be.
[43:21] Speaker 1: Pink, well it's so. Infantilizing, infantilizing, YES i on The Hello.
[43:29] Speaker 1: Kitty i'll address that. First The Hello. KITTY i, understand
[43:32] Speaker 1: on the one, hand you're trying to get little girls
[43:34] Speaker 1: excited about, racing So Hello kitty makes, sense and you
[43:37] Speaker 1: have A Hot wheels, Partnership you've got A lego. Partnership
[43:40] Speaker 1: Hello kitty is another, toy, sure but there's something just
[43:44] Speaker 1: kind of revolting to me as a red blooded woman
[43:49] Speaker 1: to have a pink baby Doll Hello kitty attached to
[43:55] Speaker 1: the women's only Driving academy because it gives yet another
[44:02] Speaker 1: avenue to just brush it off as it's for, girls
[44:07] Speaker 1: AND i think you want to be taken seriously as
[44:11] Speaker 1: a racer and as a, driver and you don't want
[44:14] Speaker 1: to give any opportunity to just be brushed. Off AND
[44:18] Speaker 1: i feel like there's a little bit of a we
[44:21] Speaker 1: can pat ourselves on the back as f one because
[44:25] Speaker 1: we've created this, academy so we've done the good, thing
[44:27] Speaker 1: and we're supporting women and we're supporting our, goals and
[44:31] Speaker 1: now we can move. On and it seems it's not.
[44:35] Speaker 1: Performative it's bringing in a lot of, money and it's
[44:39] Speaker 1: allowing people, like for, Instance Leah, block who's actually going
[44:41] Speaker 1: to leave. This she announced she was leaving the. Series
[44:43] Speaker 1: this Is Ken block's. Daughter Ken block is an amazing.
[44:46] Speaker 1: Driver Jim conney. Exactly his daughter has been in the
[44:50] Speaker 1: series for. Tears she's actually leaving the, series she. Announced of,
[44:53] Speaker 1: course it gives them exposure and. Experience but here's the.
[44:57] Speaker 1: Problem Leah block does off road, riding driving and. Rallies
[45:03] Speaker 1: she had not even been brought up racing or driving in,
[45:07] Speaker 1: carts and she was coming at it from a completely different.
[45:11] Speaker 1: Avenue why not just get little girls in carts the
[45:15] Speaker 1: same as little boys would be in. Carts why do
[45:17] Speaker 1: YOU i don't here and the other.
[45:20] Speaker 2: THING i don't. DISAGREE i just feel like.
[45:23] Speaker 1: They're probably smarter in the same, avenues.
[45:26] Speaker 2: Better equipped people to take the other side BECAUSE i
[45:28] Speaker 2: think YOU'RE i think You're it's just it's in a
[45:32] Speaker 2: lot of, senses it's reverse.
[45:34] Speaker 1: Almost, yes it can bring in it can bring in.
[45:37] Speaker 1: Money it's certainly good for partnerships that will bring in.
[45:39] Speaker 1: Money but here's another. Problem On friday night or was It,
[45:48] Speaker 1: saturday you, know the. Sorry, saturday they had a, suit
[45:53] Speaker 1: they had the academy drivers out on, track and two
[45:57] Speaker 1: of them crashed into each other before the race even.
[45:59] Speaker 1: Started and that to me is a sign that they're not.
[46:03] Speaker 1: Prepared to, me how are they not being supported by
[46:08] Speaker 1: their trainers and their teams that they're crashing before the race.
[46:11] Speaker 1: Starts how is that good for? Anybody AND i don't
[46:15] Speaker 1: even fault the. DRIVERS i fault they're not being. Prepared
[46:19] Speaker 1: so this may maybe gets me in, trouble BUT i
[46:23] Speaker 1: IN i want to obviously see some women formula, drivers
[46:29] Speaker 1: But i'm not sure this is the.
[46:30] Speaker 2: AVENUE i hear. You ALTHOUGH i will say that even
[46:34] Speaker 2: the most experienced drivers can have those kind those kinds of.
[46:41] Speaker 2: Accidents In MOTO gp last, weekend we saw an accident
[46:47] Speaker 2: on the starting grid before the race started because one
[46:52] Speaker 2: rider ran into another he just wasn't like paying. Attention,
[46:56] Speaker 2: yes and both of those riders were, experienced have been
[47:01] Speaker 2: In MOTO gp for years and. Years, yes so it does.
[47:04] Speaker 2: Happen but, yeah and you're totally, right.
[47:08] Speaker 1: It's, true and it does. Happen it could happen to,
[47:10] Speaker 1: Anyone it could happen To Lewis. Hamilton but the problem
[47:13] Speaker 1: is those. Drivers they have to be like, above they
[47:19] Speaker 1: have to be perfect, because as any woman, knows when
[47:23] Speaker 1: you're in a field that's dominated by men and you're
[47:25] Speaker 1: one of the few, women every mistake you make is
[47:29] Speaker 1: going to be a reason to not let you. In
[47:31] Speaker 1: and it's, unfair but it's, true and it's like EVERY
[47:36] Speaker 1: i remember WHEN i started riding about. Cars one editor
[47:40] Speaker 1: WHO i really love and, RESPECT i told, me don't
[47:44] Speaker 1: wear baseball hats when you're on camera because you're young
[47:48] Speaker 1: and you're a, woman and it makes you look even.
[47:50] Speaker 1: Younger and the bottom line is people are going to
[47:54] Speaker 1: look for any reason to discredit, you discount, you not pay,
[47:58] Speaker 1: attention and don't give any reason not. To AND i
[48:02] Speaker 1: don't know if that's fair or, unfair but that's kind of.
[48:05] Speaker 2: Reality WELL i applaud, You Hannah. Elliott and on that,

[49:22] Speaker 2: recent trip To china and THE ai chip making. BATTLE
[49:26] Speaker 2: i brought up The Porsche KAYEN. Ev you, know because,
[49:32] Speaker 2: yes because you know the. IDEA a lot of, people
[49:35] Speaker 2: a lot of the angry commenters on social media have, said,
[49:39] Speaker 2: look this is a giant SUV v that looks, MEH
[49:44] Speaker 2: i might as well buy something From, china you, know
[49:48] Speaker 2: if this is What i'm going to get From. Porscha
[49:50] Speaker 2: AND i asked her if the same was true of you,
[49:53] Speaker 2: KNOW ai, chatbots because she was, saying a lot of
[49:55] Speaker 2: them work just as, well if not better than CHAT
[49:59] Speaker 2: gpt OR m AND i, three but are more, efficient
[50:03] Speaker 2: costs less and use less, Energy so you might as
[50:07] Speaker 2: well Choose. China is that what she?
[50:10] Speaker 1: Said?
[50:11] Speaker 2: Yeah and she also told me that she had been
[50:14] Speaker 2: in the Shoo me factory this she told me off,
[50:16] Speaker 2: camera and that she was really impressed by the, design
[50:22] Speaker 2: by the build, quality and she had test driven one
[50:25] Speaker 2: at the factory and, said you, know obviously the acceleration
[50:29] Speaker 2: is just great in that ev like it isn't any
[50:32] Speaker 2: Other SO i thought that was pretty. Interesting we've got
