[0:02] Speaker 1: Bloomberg Audio Studios, Podcasts, radio news. I'm Matt Miller and
[0:10] Speaker 1: I'm Hannah Elliott, and this is Hot Pursuit.
[0:20] Speaker 2: All right. We have a ton of cars to talk
[0:23] Speaker 2: about today, which is cool, right because.
[0:27] Speaker 3: But that's why people really listen.
[0:29] Speaker 1: I think, yeah, I think so. I mean, who knows
[0:32] Speaker 1: why they listen. We do appreciate that you do listen, right, But.
[0:36] Speaker 2: I think the number three, I don't know when I buy.
[0:40] Speaker 2: When I buy a magazine at the newsstand, which I
[0:43] Speaker 2: used to do when they were magazines for sale at
[0:45] Speaker 2: the newsstand, the first thing I do is scan the
[0:48] Speaker 2: cover to see which brands and which models are going
[0:52] Speaker 2: to be in there, right.
[0:54] Speaker 1: So give them the headlines, Matt.
[0:55] Speaker 2: All right, So we're going to talk about the BMW
[0:59] Speaker 2: M five. It's one that Hannah had already driven. It's
[1:02] Speaker 2: a hybrid, a plug in hybrid, and for those who
[1:06] Speaker 2: haven't figured it out yet, the way this works is
[1:08] Speaker 2: Hannah gets to drive these awesome cars right away. She's
[1:11] Speaker 2: invited to the premieres, and I usually wait like a year,
[1:14] Speaker 2: and then I get to drive them too. So you've
[1:16] Speaker 2: already written about it for.
[1:17] Speaker 1: Pursuits, I wrote about it. I drove it in Miami,
[1:22] Speaker 1: and yeah, I had thoughts. We'll include the link to
[1:24] Speaker 1: that review in the podcast description.
[1:29] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:29] Speaker 2: And then the Ford Mustang, the new generation has been
[1:35] Speaker 2: around for a long time. Obviously, the GT is the
[1:39] Speaker 2: one you want.
[1:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, the GT is the one you want.
[1:41] Speaker 2: But now there's a California special, So I'm driving that
[1:46] Speaker 2: this week.
[1:48] Speaker 1: I need to request that. I don't know if I've
[1:51] Speaker 1: got my hands on that.
[1:52] Speaker 3: I mean, are there are some issues? But I thought
[1:56] Speaker 3: there was.
[1:57] Speaker 2: It was an interesting juxtaposition to the M five, even
[1:59] Speaker 2: though no one is ever going to cross shop those things.
[2:02] Speaker 2: But I'll explain when we get there. Hey, I drove
[2:06] Speaker 2: the Ford Ranger Raptor, which is the small truck, Raptor
[2:12] Speaker 2: version of the small truck that Ford makes, not the smallest,
[2:15] Speaker 2: not the Maverick, but the media midsize truck, and I
[2:19] Speaker 2: have thoughts on that also as a former F one
[2:22] Speaker 2: fifty Raptor owner, it means a lot to me, the
[2:26] Speaker 2: whole brand. And then you have a couple of like
[2:31] Speaker 2: supercars that are I think the opposite ends of the spectrum.
[2:36] Speaker 1: Yes, well, I have upcoming the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster.
[2:41] Speaker 1: That's the convertible which is perfect time for summer. And
[2:44] Speaker 1: then next week I'll be traveling to Bozeman, Montana to
[2:48] Speaker 1: drive the full range of the twenty twenty six model
[2:51] Speaker 1: line of from Bentley, So that's on the other side
[2:54] Speaker 1: of the spectrum. And I also think we should talk
[2:56] Speaker 1: about this piece I did this week on how to
[2:59] Speaker 1: plan a good summer drive, and it sounds really simple,
[3:03] Speaker 1: but I actually learned a few nice little things from
[3:07] Speaker 1: these road going veterans that I spoke with about that
[3:10] Speaker 1: that piece.
[3:11] Speaker 2: Definitely want to talk about, the summer driving piece, and
[3:14] Speaker 2: I also got to ask some questions about the my
[3:17] Speaker 2: bock gls that you're going to try, which is meaningful
[3:22] Speaker 2: to me because I have a non my bat but
[3:25] Speaker 2: non my bock GLS that has some pros and cons.
[3:30] Speaker 2: All right, let's get straight into it with the M five.
[3:32] Speaker 2: You drove this already. We have the link to your
[3:34] Speaker 2: story in the description, and it's a car that I
[3:39] Speaker 2: think was controversial because it gets ever larger, ever heavier.
[3:44] Speaker 2: But give me your take on the ultimate driving machine
[3:48] Speaker 2: in the executive sedan part of this.
[3:53] Speaker 1: I have to admit at first, I was a little
[3:56] Speaker 1: skeptical just because it's a huge sedan it does doesn't
[4:00] Speaker 1: look great in my opinion, but the M five is
[4:06] Speaker 1: the N five. It's this is the seventh generation version.
[4:09] Speaker 1: It's an icon. I went in with an open mind.
[4:13] Speaker 1: The number one thing that people asked about it, and
[4:15] Speaker 1: which I was really curious about two was how much
[4:19] Speaker 1: does it feel heavy? Because it looks big and it's
[4:21] Speaker 1: a hybrid, it just looks like a big baller car.
[4:26] Speaker 1: I think it weighs about fifty four hundred pounds. And
[4:29] Speaker 1: I have to say that I thought it drived amazing.
[4:33] Speaker 1: I don't know what you thought, Matt, but you know,
[4:37] Speaker 1: seven hundred and seventeen horse power. It goes zero to
[4:39] Speaker 1: sixty miles an hour in three point four seconds, so
[4:42] Speaker 1: it's it's already faster and more powerful than anything that
[4:46] Speaker 1: came before it in the M five line. I ended
[4:50] Speaker 1: up really liking it. Thought it handled fine. I admittedly
[4:55] Speaker 1: did not have it in the canyons I was. I
[4:57] Speaker 1: drove it in Miami, and Miami has a lot of flat,
[5:00] Speaker 1: straight roads, so I wasn't canyon carving in it, but
[5:03] Speaker 1: certainly and I actually drove people in the backseat like
[5:07] Speaker 1: some of some car guys who loved the backseat, you know,
[5:12] Speaker 1: it has a real executive style rear, so I actually
[5:17] Speaker 1: thought to wrap all of that up for the prize,
[5:19] Speaker 1: which is about one hundred and twenty thousand. That seemed
[5:23] Speaker 1: fair for what you get.
[5:25] Speaker 2: So I I'll start with the weight, right, because that's
[5:31] Speaker 2: also the number one question people asked me. Yeah, it's
[5:34] Speaker 2: a concern my neighbor, you know, Eric, he's a BMW fanboy.
[5:39] Speaker 2: He hasn't and for gts he cares a lot about
[5:42] Speaker 2: the weight. He had an M two and he doesn't
[5:45] Speaker 2: like the new one because it is heavier. I was
[5:49] Speaker 2: thinking about it as I got in the car, and
[5:50] Speaker 2: to me, this M five feels extraordinarily light. Like yes,
[5:56] Speaker 2: I thought it felt like the whole car is made
[5:59] Speaker 2: of carbon fiber, and the one that I drove did
[6:03] Speaker 2: have the carbon fiber package that costs three thousand dollars
[6:06] Speaker 2: extra carbon.
[6:07] Speaker 3: Fiber roof, but it just felt really light.
[6:12] Speaker 2: The issue that I had was that it felt so huge,
[6:15] Speaker 2: like I felt like it was so far to the
[6:18] Speaker 2: edge of the hood and so far to the rear.
[6:22] Speaker 2: It was just and and it's very wide also, so
[6:25] Speaker 2: I thought it just felt like a gigantic car. And
[6:27] Speaker 2: for the first couple of days, that I drove it
[6:30] Speaker 2: just to and from work. I wasn't really that impressed.
[6:34] Speaker 2: That all changed when I put it into M one
[6:39] Speaker 2: and M two. You know, you have the little red
[6:41] Speaker 2: buttons on the steering wheel, it's like sport and track mode,
[6:45] Speaker 2: and drove it in anger. It is extremely fast, I know.
[6:50] Speaker 2: I mean, this is like mind blowingly fast. And I
[6:54] Speaker 2: had the same thought when I was driving the M two,
[6:56] Speaker 2: like wow, this is a rocket. But the M five
[6:57] Speaker 2: is on another level in terms of its quickness and
[7:01] Speaker 2: in terms of, you know, the time it takes for
[7:04] Speaker 2: you to get to triple digits without realizing that you're
[7:07] Speaker 2: doing triple digits, which we don't want to do right
[7:10] Speaker 2: on public, not in Miami, No, or here in New York.
[7:15] Speaker 3: But it was happening a lot.
[7:16] Speaker 2: I also thought it was incredibly precise, like almost too precise,
[7:21] Speaker 2: and that was kind of a I don't know if
[7:23] Speaker 2: it was a pro or a con for me, because
[7:26] Speaker 2: having something so big that is so quick and so
[7:30] Speaker 2: precise is just weird.
[7:32] Speaker 1: I don't think anything can be too precise. I agree
[7:36] Speaker 1: it's weird, but weird is good. I totally agree. I
[7:43] Speaker 1: think weird is good. It's memorable and so many of
[7:47] Speaker 1: these cars, even from BMW the Sedans, there are so
[7:51] Speaker 1: many of them it's really hard to remember which is which.
[7:54] Speaker 1: And I would say you do not have that problem
[7:57] Speaker 1: with the M five. And to your point about the size,
[8:00] Speaker 1: I actually just look back at my review. It's over
[8:05] Speaker 1: four inches longer and almost three inches wider than the
[8:09] Speaker 1: previous model, So you're one thousand percent right, it is
[8:13] Speaker 1: substantially bigger. But I agree. I think for them to
[8:19] Speaker 1: achieve the kind of handling that we both thought independently
[8:23] Speaker 1: of each other on a car that size is pretty special.
[8:28] Speaker 1: BMW is doing a really really good job right now
[8:31] Speaker 1: in a very tough landscape.
[8:33] Speaker 3: They are absolutely crushing it.
[8:35] Speaker 2: I mean. The other thing is I didn't feel the
[8:38] Speaker 2: hybridness of this car as much as say I did
[8:41] Speaker 2: in the Corvette E Ray right where they have an
[8:45] Speaker 2: electric motor on the front and they have the V
[8:48] Speaker 2: eight running the rear wheels on that you can really
[8:50] Speaker 2: feel it. And it wasn't a it's not a dang
[8:53] Speaker 2: like I love obviously the E Ray I talk about
[8:55] Speaker 2: it all the time, but in this I couldn't really tell.
[8:59] Speaker 2: With the exception of how fast it was getting from
[9:02] Speaker 2: zero to eighty like, uh.
[9:05] Speaker 1: There is launch control also on this car.
[9:07] Speaker 2: I didn't even I didn't. I didn't mess around with that.
[9:10] Speaker 3: I just.
[9:12] Speaker 2: After I realized how quick and precise it was, I
[9:14] Speaker 2: just drove it as fast as I could and tried
[9:17] Speaker 2: to you know, weaven traffic.
[9:21] Speaker 1: This is why, this is why, at least in LA,
[9:24] Speaker 1: you know, people who drive BMWs have a certain reputation driving.
[9:29] Speaker 2: I will have earned that reputation. And by the way
[9:31] Speaker 2: it looks, it looks the part also, the one I
[9:33] Speaker 2: had was the Sepia metallic paint, which is like a
[9:37] Speaker 2: dull blue gray, but if you look at it in
[9:41] Speaker 2: wherever the sunlight is shining, it looks more like a
[9:44] Speaker 2: yellow carbon fiber. Oh.
[9:47] Speaker 3: And it's it's cool, like.
[9:50] Speaker 2: In a it's cool in like a bmw M car
[9:54] Speaker 2: kind of way, Like if I went to a bmw
[9:56] Speaker 2: M Cars and coffee, everybody there would love it, like
[10:00] Speaker 2: you know, and there's carbon fiber taped everywhere else. But
[10:03] Speaker 2: I will say, the the shape the like, if you
[10:06] Speaker 2: take away the paint, and if you take away the
[10:09] Speaker 2: quickness and the precision, it's not a great looking car.
[10:14] Speaker 3: I don't think. Oh, it didn't even.
[10:16] Speaker 2: Grow on me. Over the week and my daughter we
[10:19] Speaker 2: were walking down the street back from like the ice
[10:23] Speaker 2: cream shop to where we parked, and she turned and
[10:25] Speaker 2: went to get into an M three that was sitting there,
[10:30] Speaker 2: and I was like, that's not our car, and she said, Daddy,
[10:32] Speaker 2: looks the same. Yes, they all look the same, you know,
[10:35] Speaker 2: one's just bigger.
[10:36] Speaker 1: I had one that was purple, like the deep purple color.
[10:41] Speaker 1: And yeah, the car's rather brutalist, like it's it's very
[10:46] Speaker 1: it's brutal. It feels like a punch, you know. It's
[10:50] Speaker 1: I'm with you. It's not an elegant looking car. It's
[10:54] Speaker 1: not a sexy looking car. It's like a punch in
[10:56] Speaker 1: the face. And maybe maybe you like that. I did
[11:01] Speaker 1: think that if we're going to talk about like carbon
[11:05] Speaker 1: the interior does come with a lot of options. You
[11:08] Speaker 1: can get carbon packages, you can get Bowers and Wilkins
[11:12] Speaker 1: sound upgrades, all that stuff, and you can kind of
[11:15] Speaker 1: speck it to be really wild or more calm. I
[11:19] Speaker 1: think I'm personally a little bit more of the calm
[11:21] Speaker 1: side of things.
[11:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, I would want it more elegant, although I mean, look,
[11:24] Speaker 2: I didn't even really think about the interior that much
[11:27] Speaker 2: over the last.
[11:27] Speaker 1: Week, did you how did you feel about the unlock
[11:32] Speaker 1: function for the car? It wasn't work, but see, Okay.
[11:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, I was thinking that I did something wrong, that
[11:38] Speaker 2: I messed up the settings because I would approach with
[11:40] Speaker 2: the key fob in my pocket and pull the door
[11:42] Speaker 2: and it didn't work.
[11:43] Speaker 3: I had to actually get the key fob out and
[11:45] Speaker 3: press unlock.
[11:46] Speaker 1: That's a little bit of a weak spot.
[11:48] Speaker 2: I'm not sure that that couldn't have been changed in settings.
[11:51] Speaker 2: But I will say that the one I drove, you
[11:54] Speaker 2: quoted a price of almost one hundred twenty and I've
[11:57] Speaker 2: seen in a base price reported of one twenty five.
[12:00] Speaker 2: The one I drove was one forty six and change.
[12:03] Speaker 2: And that's before the delivery fee, which carmakers are now
[12:07] Speaker 2: raising delivery fees so that they don't have to raise
[12:10] Speaker 2: the MSRP, but they still get more money. Right, So,
[12:16] Speaker 2: when the garage attendants asked me what do you think,
[12:19] Speaker 2: as they inevitably do, I was like, it's just too expensive,
[12:23] Speaker 2: Like it's an amazing vehicle, but I find it a
[12:28] Speaker 2: little overpriced considering the.
[12:33] Speaker 3: Competition.
[12:34] Speaker 2: Right, you're testing this against the Mercedes AMGGT, You're testing
[12:39] Speaker 2: it against an Audi RS seven, a poor chapanamer a
[12:44] Speaker 2: Cadillac CTSP Blackwing.
[12:47] Speaker 1: This is a big executive sedan. I don't think you'd
[12:50] Speaker 1: I don't think you'd put an AMGGT against it, the.
[12:52] Speaker 2: Four door, the four door GT.
[12:55] Speaker 1: So maybe an S class right.
[12:59] Speaker 2: Seven series, though, I would think that AMG GT four
[13:03] Speaker 2: door because it's got four doors, it's got four seats.
[13:08] Speaker 2: There is some space in the back, but there's not
[13:10] Speaker 2: enough space in the back for two rear facing child seats. Okay,
[13:15] Speaker 2: when you're moved all the way back anyway, I just think, like,
[13:18] Speaker 2: wouldn't I rather have a Cadillac CT five V black Wing.
[13:23] Speaker 2: The CT five V black Wing does feel small compared
[13:29] Speaker 2: to this.
[13:31] Speaker 3: Yeah, and you've.
[13:31] Speaker 2: Got a supercharged V eight instead of the hybrid turbocharged
[13:37] Speaker 2: V eight. I don't know which one is gonna be faster.
[13:42] Speaker 2: Who cares if one's three point four or six.
[13:45] Speaker 1: I would prefer the harbrid. I will say we should
[13:48] Speaker 1: let everybody know. This gets twenty five miles on electric
[13:52] Speaker 1: only range, and it gets about fifty miles per gallon
[13:56] Speaker 1: equivalent using combined gas and electric power.
[14:00] Speaker 2: It I emptied that tank in like three days.
[14:05] Speaker 1: Well, there you have it.
[14:06] Speaker 2: Anyway, there you have it so a weird thing. You
[14:10] Speaker 2: would never think about cross shopping this with a Mustang,
[14:13] Speaker 2: I know. And the Mustang that I drove, this that
[14:18] Speaker 2: I that I got into after this. The only reason
[14:20] Speaker 2: I thought about it was the BMW doesn't make a
[14:24] Speaker 2: ton of noise. It's super fast and it's super precise.
[14:27] Speaker 2: Then I got into this Mustang GT. It makes a
[14:30] Speaker 2: lot of noise, it isn't nearly as quick, and it's
[14:35] Speaker 2: definitely not nearly as precise. It feels so much sloppier.
[14:39] Speaker 2: And this is not a ding because I love the Mustang.
[14:41] Speaker 2: I would buy the Mustang myself with my own money,
[14:45] Speaker 2: and I wouldn't be out nearly as much money. But
[14:48] Speaker 2: it just highlights having driven the M five highlighted to
[14:52] Speaker 2: me what a different experience a pony car or a
[14:55] Speaker 2: muscle car is compared to what BMW is making. Yes, unrefined, Yeah,
[15:03] Speaker 2: I mean I want I want.
[15:05] Speaker 1: The inferior, do you. I mean, it's just it's not
[15:10] Speaker 1: wrong to say a car is inferior to another car.
[15:14] Speaker 2: No, it's not. And I mean, obviously there's a huge
[15:16] Speaker 2: price difference.
[15:18] Speaker 1: Sure there's a huge but the price difference reflects what
[15:21] Speaker 1: you're getting, and there is a you can draw a
[15:25] Speaker 1: general line between what you pay for and what you
[15:27] Speaker 1: get with cars. I mean, it's just like it's like
[15:30] Speaker 1: driving the old Corvette. That car is the worst driving
[15:33] Speaker 1: car ever. It's terrible, it's slow, it's like a ten Can.
[15:37] Speaker 1: It's horrible. Doesn't mean I don't love it. It's to
[15:40] Speaker 1: talk more about the Mustang because I'm I want to
[15:44] Speaker 1: hear comparison.
[15:45] Speaker 2: The reason that I can compare the two because it
[15:47] Speaker 2: is not a manual. And I will say that I
[15:50] Speaker 2: messaged Dan Barbosa as soon as they pulled it into
[15:53] Speaker 2: my driveway, who is the head of PR for Mustang.
[15:58] Speaker 2: At least he's respect for me. And I was like, dude,
[16:02] Speaker 2: do no Mustangs come with a stick anymore? Because the
[16:04] Speaker 2: last I think three that I've gotten from four to
[16:08] Speaker 2: test out have had an auto box. And he was like,
[16:12] Speaker 2: none of the Mustangs that go to New York have
[16:14] Speaker 2: a stick. But to me, you buy this car for
[16:18] Speaker 2: the stick, Like that's the reason.
[16:20] Speaker 1: That's the type of car you want to stick, not
[16:22] Speaker 1: in the M five hybrid, And.
[16:24] Speaker 2: That's probly a reason that you would buy the black
[16:27] Speaker 2: Wing also in the M five obviously, that's not even
[16:30] Speaker 2: an option, so that's not a possibility. But that's that's
[16:36] Speaker 2: an issue, I guess with whoever's putting together a Ford's
[16:39] Speaker 2: press car. You can buy this with a stick and
[16:41] Speaker 2: by the way, it's the only two door V eight
[16:46] Speaker 2: I think that you can get with a stick rear
[16:48] Speaker 2: wheel drive at all.
[16:52] Speaker 1: Something that's something?
[16:53] Speaker 3: Is there any other that you can think of?
[16:55] Speaker 2: Like the Black Wing is a four door and also
[17:01] Speaker 2: costs over one hundred thousand, so that doesn't rule it
[17:04] Speaker 2: out of the category. But this Mustang, even with the
[17:07] Speaker 2: California special package that they put on it is only
[17:10] Speaker 2: fifty six. I can't think of any other car right
[17:14] Speaker 2: that has it that has a V eight and a stick.
[17:17] Speaker 1: No, it might, I mean, I won't say nothing.
[17:21] Speaker 2: There's no Portia.
[17:23] Speaker 1: No I'm not, I'm nothing is coming to mind.
[17:25] Speaker 2: No, there's no Audi. There's definitely no other car from
[17:28] Speaker 2: GM because the Corvette doesn't have a stick.
[17:31] Speaker 1: At the end of the day, thumbs up or thumbs down.
[17:35] Speaker 2: Oh I love it. I absolutely love it. I mean,
[17:37] Speaker 2: to me, the Mustang. It makes you feel like a teenager.
[17:41] Speaker 2: You feel like I wasn't the captain of the football team.
[17:44] Speaker 2: Homecoming King but I feel like it when I'm driving
[17:47] Speaker 2: this car and it's the drop top. So like the
[17:53] Speaker 2: point I was gonna make is that you because I
[17:55] Speaker 2: drove the M five previously, I feel how sloppy it is.
[17:59] Speaker 1: But the Mustang, the.
[18:01] Speaker 2: Mustang is in comparison to that. But that's not a reason.
[18:06] Speaker 2: Like I still had the time of my life coming
[18:09] Speaker 2: to work this morning with the top down, making as
[18:13] Speaker 2: much noise as possible. You can choose between on the
[18:17] Speaker 2: You can have a quiet start, you can have a
[18:19] Speaker 2: race exhaust, you can have the track exhaust. I obviously
[18:22] Speaker 2: go straight to the most obnoxious level, even though I
[18:26] Speaker 2: hate when other people do it, you know, So, I mean,
[18:30] Speaker 2: it's so much fun.
[18:32] Speaker 1: This is true. It can be sloppy and fun. Of course,
[18:35] Speaker 1: these don't exist separately. Do you think the Mustang has
[18:40] Speaker 1: been hurt by the amount of rental fleets that carry
[18:43] Speaker 1: Mustangs for tosts?
[18:45] Speaker 2: Not really, I mean not anymore than it was ten
[18:48] Speaker 2: years ago when the same thing was true. Like you've
[18:51] Speaker 2: always been able to rent Mustangs from Hurts. They famously
[18:54] Speaker 2: have had a partnership since like the sixties and at
[18:58] Speaker 2: least the sixties. But the same is true with Challengers
[19:02] Speaker 2: and Camaros, and so that whole class of car, of
[19:07] Speaker 2: which the Mustang is essentially the only one left right now.
[19:11] Speaker 2: I think, yes, has been hurt by the fact that
[19:13] Speaker 2: they're cheap, crappy versions. At It hurts, but there always
[19:18] Speaker 2: have been, so they're not hurt anymore now than they
[19:20] Speaker 2: were then. And frankly it's I mean, even though it's
[19:24] Speaker 2: not an M five, it's a it's a far better
[19:26] Speaker 2: vehicle than it was at the time.
[19:29] Speaker 1: Oh well, no question about that, no question. Every every
[19:32] Speaker 1: vehicle is a far better vehicle. I mean, the baseline
[19:36] Speaker 1: for new cars today is EON's better than they ever.
[19:40] Speaker 1: They're way safer, way more effishent all the things true,
[19:44] Speaker 1: quieter when you want them to be quiet. I personally,
[19:49] Speaker 1: for me, would say that the fact that every time
[19:52] Speaker 1: I see a Mustang convertible, I assume it's a tourist
[19:54] Speaker 1: means I would never want to own one or an islander. Well,
[20:01] Speaker 1: that bothers me less than it bothers you. But you know,
[20:05] Speaker 1: there is something that I think, at least in California,
[20:08] Speaker 1: every European tourist rents them and drives them up the coast,
[20:13] Speaker 1: you know, And I actually do think that hurts the
[20:17] Speaker 1: Mustang brand as being seen as a special car.
[20:21] Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I do as well.
[20:23] Speaker 2: I just was thinking it doesn't hurt anymore now than
[20:26] Speaker 2: it did ten years ago or twenty years ago.
[20:27] Speaker 1: It always been like that. Oh no, that's true. That's true.
[20:30] Speaker 2: I know it's always been like that because I'm the
[20:32] Speaker 2: guy at the rental counter who's like, hey, do you
[20:35] Speaker 2: have a Mustang?
[20:37] Speaker 1: There's nothing, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that there there.
[20:40] Speaker 1: My point is more than they're ubiquitous. And I'm all
[20:43] Speaker 1: about you know, if you've got a convertible, you should
[20:47] Speaker 1: feel it should feel special, and you know, like your
[20:50] Speaker 1: I love the idea that it feels like you're the
[20:52] Speaker 1: only one left.
[21:02] Speaker 2: All right, Speaking of special, I want to talk about
[21:04] Speaker 2: another board vehicle that I got to drive last week,
[21:09] Speaker 2: and that is the Ranger Raptor. And I will be
[21:15] Speaker 2: the first to admit that I typically discount smaller trucks,
[21:22] Speaker 2: like I want small trucks. I just feel like you
[21:26] Speaker 2: can't fit as much into the back. You don't have
[21:29] Speaker 2: as much room inside, Like, what's the point I can't
[21:32] Speaker 2: put a motorcycle in the back, right, so.
[21:35] Speaker 3: Unless I leave the tailgate open?
[21:38] Speaker 1: Yes, But This is the type of truck that I
[21:40] Speaker 1: would use to like go to the home depot, run
[21:43] Speaker 1: around on the weekends, like move random furniture from one
[21:47] Speaker 1: place to another, like take the dog to the beach
[21:50] Speaker 1: and get the dog in the back once we get
[21:52] Speaker 1: there and get her all clean, you know, like all
[21:54] Speaker 1: that stuff, all the like rugged stuff. And also would
[21:57] Speaker 1: be the perfect truck that you can draw when you
[22:00] Speaker 1: don't really want to worry about your vehicle just in general. Yeah,
[22:06] Speaker 1: I like that, but you can still park it. It's
[22:08] Speaker 1: not oversized. The worst thing to me is these enormous, oversize,
[22:12] Speaker 1: huge construction trucks that you can't park. They don't even
[22:17] Speaker 1: they barely even fit in the driveway, let alone a garage. Okay,
[22:21] Speaker 1: really just for the work site.
[22:23] Speaker 2: I mean. So those are my favorite vehicles basically. Okay,
[22:26] Speaker 2: this is one of the highlights of where we differ,
[22:30] Speaker 2: because my favorite trucks are the heavy duty, the super
[22:33] Speaker 2: duty trucks that have like a six inch lift and
[22:36] Speaker 2: a seven diesel motor. But yeah, everyone knows that about me, and.
[22:41] Speaker 1: They're almost unusable though.
[22:43] Speaker 2: I know, but they're they're great highway cruisers and I
[22:48] Speaker 2: can fit like my entire family plus uh, you know,
[22:52] Speaker 2: a full staff on the inside, and you know, two
[22:56] Speaker 2: big bikes in the in the bed.
[22:58] Speaker 3: I mean.
[23:00] Speaker 2: My point though, is that I had so much fun
[23:02] Speaker 2: driving this little Ranger Raptor, and lately I've been having
[23:07] Speaker 2: fun driving other small trucks. I drove a GMC Canyon
[23:11] Speaker 2: even with a small motor that I liked. I drove
[23:14] Speaker 2: Toyota Tacoma. Like these have been have been really fun
[23:18] Speaker 2: in my experience the last couple of years. And what
[23:19] Speaker 2: I've been thinking is they're like jeeps. They drive like jeeps,
[23:24] Speaker 2: like like Wranglers or Broncos, and yet they're they're just
[23:27] Speaker 2: a little bit more useful.
[23:29] Speaker 3: So thumbs up.
[23:32] Speaker 1: Love it. Now, the let's talk about the Raptor. Just
[23:35] Speaker 1: so people know this is, uh, it's a V six.
[23:37] Speaker 2: Right, Yes, it's a turbo charge V six.
[23:41] Speaker 1: Four x four obviously snappy, snappy.
[23:45] Speaker 2: Okay, horsepower and change like four hundred and five or
[23:49] Speaker 2: something horsepower.
[23:50] Speaker 1: Do you do any pors with it? Or like put
[23:52] Speaker 1: a bicycle in the back or take the girls out or.
[23:55] Speaker 2: I took it.
[23:56] Speaker 3: So this is again one of the issues in terms
[23:59] Speaker 3: of size.
[23:59] Speaker 2: Right, I have car seats and I've got to put
[24:03] Speaker 2: the kids in them, and so this is not a
[24:06] Speaker 2: big cab. I have to move the driver's seat all
[24:10] Speaker 2: the way forward in order to put rear facing car
[24:13] Speaker 2: seats in the back. But you're not buying this car
[24:15] Speaker 2: for that, So I don't ding it for that. But yeah,
[24:18] Speaker 2: I did like family stuff. I went to Costco, and
[24:23] Speaker 2: it's like I would put a cab on the back,
[24:27] Speaker 2: like a cap on the back. That is what I mean,
[24:30] Speaker 2: because if you're going to Costco, you don't want the
[24:32] Speaker 2: open back or a cover. But it's just I felt
[24:36] Speaker 2: like very jeepish in this and all these other trucks.
[24:38] Speaker 2: But this is another level higher the Ranger treatment or
[24:42] Speaker 2: the Raptor treatment, I should say, over, you know, your
[24:46] Speaker 2: base model, but you're paying for that, Like it's almost
[24:49] Speaker 2: sixty thousand dollars this truck.
[24:50] Speaker 1: Would you rather have the sixty thousand dollars truck or
[24:54] Speaker 1: the fifty whatever thousand dollars Mustang.
[24:59] Speaker 3: I would rather have Mustang.
[25:00] Speaker 2: The Mustang's like a party. Every time you get in.
[25:02] Speaker 2: It's a celebration, you know. And like, fortunately we already
[25:07] Speaker 2: have a family truckster for the kids. So if I
[25:10] Speaker 2: had to choose for a second car, the Mustang. I
[25:15] Speaker 2: want to put on a letter jacket when I'm driving it.
[25:17] Speaker 2: You know, it's just too But yeah, the Ranger Raptor
[25:25] Speaker 2: a lot of fun. I'd still prefer an F one
[25:27] Speaker 2: fifty Raptor from the first generation when they had the
[25:32] Speaker 2: six point two liters V eight.
[25:34] Speaker 1: I haven't driven I haven't driven this this truck, so
[25:37] Speaker 1: I can't really talk about it, but sounds awesome. I
[25:42] Speaker 1: love small trucks. I mean, I learned to drive a
[25:44] Speaker 1: stick on a truck, on a Ford truck.
[25:45] Speaker 2: So this should have a stick, by the way, which
[25:48] Speaker 2: it's not available with a stick, And I know that.
[25:52] Speaker 2: I mean, people probably get annoyed hearing me say this
[25:54] Speaker 2: all the time, but I just don't get it, Like,
[25:56] Speaker 2: why wouldn't you make a stick inconvenient and expensive? I
[26:03] Speaker 2: talked again with people from GM this week and I
[26:05] Speaker 2: was asking again why there's no stick in the Corvette
[26:08] Speaker 2: and it's.
[26:09] Speaker 1: Just the same answer. I mean, nobody buys them, and
[26:11] Speaker 1: so it's not worth the money to put it in.
[26:14] Speaker 2: I mean, well, the good news is that it makes
[26:16] Speaker 2: the trucks that had a stick shift, or the cars that.
[26:19] Speaker 3: Had one special.
[26:20] Speaker 2: I saw a C six Corvette Z six driving down
[26:25] Speaker 2: the highway the other day and I was thinking, what
[26:29] Speaker 2: a sweet purchase that is now, like or a C seven, right,
[26:36] Speaker 2: uh huh. Obviously the C eights an amazing vehicle and
[26:39] Speaker 2: the performance is incredible, but now you can just go
[26:42] Speaker 2: back and get one of those for much less money
[26:45] Speaker 2: and you actually get to row your own gears.
[26:47] Speaker 1: I I think, honestly you're right about the C six.
[26:51] Speaker 1: It's going to age better and better. I'm not honestly
[26:54] Speaker 1: in love with it at this point, but probably in
[26:56] Speaker 1: ten years I'll think it's cool. Yeah, let's be hones.
[27:01] Speaker 3: Maybe not as cool as the Uh.
[27:03] Speaker 2: Well, first of all, let's talk about the story that
[27:05] Speaker 2: you wrote for Summer Driving.
[27:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, summer driving.
[27:09] Speaker 3: What's what's the idea?
[27:11] Speaker 2: Like I did a I did a three hundred mile
[27:13] Speaker 2: trip on on my hog the other day, which was
[27:16] Speaker 2: pretty pretty awesome.
[27:18] Speaker 3: But you're thinking about the car.
[27:20] Speaker 1: This is more about cars. But it's a very simple idea. Obviously,
[27:23] Speaker 1: we're now in quote unquote the summer season, Memorial Day
[27:26] Speaker 1: is gone, and a lot of people are going to
[27:27] Speaker 1: do road trips. Some people take them very seriously. And
[27:31] Speaker 1: the and the people that I spoke with for this
[27:33] Speaker 1: story for instance, this one guy, he goes by Pelly.
[27:38] Speaker 1: He drives from Portland, Oregon down to La often and
[27:44] Speaker 1: he avoids I five, which is the main throughfare. He
[27:48] Speaker 1: does everything he can, even if it as a day
[27:50] Speaker 1: of driving, to go on back roads. And his big hack,
[27:54] Speaker 1: which I thought was really smart, was he uses a
[27:57] Speaker 1: print at road at liss and he looks for water
[28:02] Speaker 1: because typically if there's a river or a coastline or
[28:07] Speaker 1: even you know, lakes, there's going to be an interesting
[28:10] Speaker 1: road that follows that the water. So at the point,
[28:14] Speaker 1: it's a really good point. And you know, this guy's
[28:17] Speaker 1: my age, so he still does remember being a little
[28:20] Speaker 1: kid and their parents. You know, your parents have the road,
[28:23] Speaker 1: the Rand McNally road atlas out and they're like trying
[28:26] Speaker 1: to find where to go. And I said, obviously, you
[28:30] Speaker 1: can use apps if you want. He also suggested, you know,
[28:34] Speaker 1: if you look at message boards that bicyclists use, like
[28:37] Speaker 1: very serious cyclists, they also know really good roads because
[28:40] Speaker 1: they're trying to avoid major highways and they want kirby
[28:43] Speaker 1: nice country roads just like drivers. But the fall of
[28:47] Speaker 1: the water, I think I think was my favorite piece
[28:50] Speaker 1: of advice.
[28:50] Speaker 2: That is a great piece of advice. I mean, it's
[28:55] Speaker 2: also really nice to actually look at the water and
[29:00] Speaker 2: your surroundings. The main thing I've taken away from my
[29:04] Speaker 2: recent transition to Harley Davidson Ryder is if I'm not
[29:09] Speaker 2: trying to go as fast as I can, which on
[29:11] Speaker 2: a Ducatta, you know, I'm always trying to push the
[29:13] Speaker 2: limit on the Harley, I'm happy to just cruise along
[29:18] Speaker 2: and I actually have time to look around me. Yes,
[29:21] Speaker 2: and I would love to drive more roads that are
[29:26] Speaker 2: next to water because it's not just you know, to
[29:29] Speaker 2: get the curve or twist your more undulating road, but
[29:32] Speaker 2: you also get like really cool visuals.
[29:36] Speaker 1: Yes, it's very peaceful. Pelly also said, obviously it's worth
[29:41] Speaker 1: it to get up at dawn. Obviously during summer months
[29:45] Speaker 1: you want to avoid the heat number one, but also
[29:48] Speaker 1: number two, if you are driving early, the water, whatever
[29:52] Speaker 1: water you're by is going to be gorgeous. You'll avoid
[29:54] Speaker 1: traffic the lights better if you're taking photos and just
[29:58] Speaker 1: intaking beauty, like beauty for itself is valuable, has a
[30:02] Speaker 1: lot of value. And so yeah, we did talk about
[30:07] Speaker 1: just being by waters naturally calming. Now can we talk
[30:10] Speaker 1: about your motorcycle ride.
[30:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, that was awesome.
[30:13] Speaker 2: I did it all in one day in terms of
[30:16] Speaker 2: the ride from Fredericksburg to Scarsdale, so I took it.
[30:22] Speaker 2: I woke up early in the morning, took the train
[30:24] Speaker 2: instead of the plane down south, and that was the
[30:29] Speaker 2: right decision. I brought my iPad so I could watch
[30:33] Speaker 2: the Moto GP sprint and that was that didn't that
[30:38] Speaker 2: did not disappoint. And then I got down there around
[30:42] Speaker 2: two o'clock, picked up the bike, and I was home
[30:45] Speaker 2: by like nine thirty. It was.
[30:49] Speaker 3: It was initially like.
[30:51] Speaker 2: The first half hour or so was terrifying because I
[30:56] Speaker 2: don't know this bike very well, and I'm immediately on
[31:00] Speaker 2: ninety five North it's like a five lane highway with
[31:04] Speaker 2: every truck trying to kill me. But then it got
[31:08] Speaker 2: into like a nice winding two lane road into DC,
[31:13] Speaker 2: and everyone who's driven around in and around DC knows
[31:15] Speaker 2: what I'm talking about, like a sort of parkway, and
[31:20] Speaker 2: that there's kind of like stop and go traffic the
[31:22] Speaker 2: whole time, but moving at a pretty brisk pace. So
[31:25] Speaker 2: on a motorcycle you got a chance to do a
[31:28] Speaker 2: lot of weaving and lane splitting at slower speeds, and
[31:32] Speaker 2: it's a huge confidence builder. Like absolutely gigantic. So then
[31:36] Speaker 2: for the rest of the time, you know, I'm wanting
[31:39] Speaker 2: to get home, so like pedal to the metal, pushing
[31:42] Speaker 2: triple digits but not quite. And it was a great ride, yeah,
[31:47] Speaker 2: really good.
[31:48] Speaker 1: It's such a like seven hour, seven hour ride.
[31:50] Speaker 2: It took me about seven hours, and it's like, obviously
[31:56] Speaker 2: on that trip, I'm not enjoying myself so much. I'm
[31:59] Speaker 2: just trying to make time and get home. But then
[32:01] Speaker 2: I took the bike out the next day for most
[32:04] Speaker 2: of the day, you know, around me up to Bear Mountain,
[32:07] Speaker 2: out to Connecticut all around, and it's just a totally
[32:11] Speaker 2: different vibe riding a Harley than a Ducati, even like
[32:16] Speaker 2: a multi strata because I found myself like often going
[32:21] Speaker 2: under the speed limit, which just because I was chilling,
[32:25] Speaker 2: like you know, you're on like a road sofa, you're
[32:28] Speaker 2: like looking around.
[32:30] Speaker 3: It's it's very different.
[32:33] Speaker 1: Any particular fatigue in your body after, especially like the
[32:37] Speaker 1: longer ride.
[32:38] Speaker 2: On the on the long ride, a ton of it
[32:41] Speaker 2: in my hips and my legs in general, because I'm
[32:44] Speaker 2: not used to having my feet in front of me,
[32:46] Speaker 2: you know, I'm used to riding a motorcycle with my
[32:48] Speaker 2: feet behind me, so it'll take a while, I think
[32:52] Speaker 2: for those muscles to develop, but I think, you know,
[32:57] Speaker 2: my biggest takeaway was it's just so there's a feeling
[33:01] Speaker 2: of fullness of warmth when you have that much displacement
[33:06] Speaker 2: motivating you with the same amount of cylinders. Like my
[33:11] Speaker 2: Ducattis are mostly like a thousand or twelve hundred CC's
[33:14] Speaker 2: for two cylinders, and this thing is like two thousand
[33:18] Speaker 2: CC's for two cylinders. And you know, I'm not up
[33:22] Speaker 2: in the high revs. I'm still I'm holding around two
[33:25] Speaker 2: or three, maybe four thousand max for the most part.
[33:29] Speaker 2: And it's just like you've got so much more there.
[33:34] Speaker 2: It's just a really different feeling and really rewarding.
[33:38] Speaker 1: Did people treat you differently on a Harley than they
[33:41] Speaker 1: do on a Dukati? Drivers or people at gas stations
[33:45] Speaker 1: and stuff.
[33:47] Speaker 2: I don't think I've had enough time with it to
[33:49] Speaker 2: know the answer to that, but I mean, I know
[33:54] Speaker 2: that it's a totally different kind of cosplay.
[33:57] Speaker 3: Both things are right, but going.
[34:00] Speaker 1: To change for sure.
[34:01] Speaker 3: On the On the Ducati it's like a Power Rangers thing.
[34:03] Speaker 2: You know, you've got sliders everywhere, and and on the
[34:08] Speaker 2: Harley it's much more chilled out like I now I
[34:11] Speaker 2: understand why you'd want to ride just in a Hawaiian shirt.
[34:15] Speaker 1: You know, are you going to Sturgis? Is this the
[34:18] Speaker 1: beginning of your Sturgis era?
[34:20] Speaker 2: I don't know, because I'm I'm too scared of like
[34:24] Speaker 2: the one percenters. I don't want like I'm a softie
[34:27] Speaker 2: for sure.
[34:29] Speaker 3: Well yeah, but I'm happy.
[34:31] Speaker 2: To uh, you know, go out my mustache and yeah,
[34:34] Speaker 2: I mean I would definitely I would love to go
[34:36] Speaker 2: to Sturgis. But I'm I'm I ride around, I see
[34:40] Speaker 2: other Harley guys and I know, okay, that is a
[34:43] Speaker 2: suburban dad pretending he's a motorcyclist for the day.
[34:46] Speaker 1: You know, do they do they like you know, acknowledge
[34:50] Speaker 1: you do they give you.
[34:51] Speaker 3: A little yeah, for sure.
[34:52] Speaker 2: You know everybody gives the two wheels down sign, and
[34:58] Speaker 2: that's the same I think on all motorcycles, even scooters
[35:00] Speaker 2: will flash on the peace sign.
[35:02] Speaker 1: So there's not a special I mean, forgive my ignorance,
[35:06] Speaker 1: there's not a special sign only among Harley riders.
[35:10] Speaker 2: No, it's the same as anytime you see another motorcyclist. Now,
[35:14] Speaker 2: a lot of times, you know, sport bikers won't maybe
[35:19] Speaker 2: acknowledge Harley riders or vice versa. Yeah, I think, but
[35:24] Speaker 2: it's the same signal, you know, two fingers like yeah,
[35:28] Speaker 2: and you do it in the most relaxed way you
[35:29] Speaker 2: can to show how cool I relax, I'm in control.
[35:33] Speaker 2: You are.
[35:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, very not very subtle.
[35:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't mind that I'm doing, you know, a
[35:39] Speaker 2: hairpin corner at ninety I can still this.
[35:42] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[35:44] Speaker 1: So do you have you still have a couple du
[35:47] Speaker 1: katti's yeah, right, but now you've got a Harley. I'm
[35:52] Speaker 1: not going to ask you how many you have, but
[35:54] Speaker 1: does this feel like a complete stable for you at
[35:58] Speaker 1: the moment?
[35:59] Speaker 2: I honestly, I mean, okay, I've only had it for
[36:03] Speaker 2: a week, but I honestly feel like this is the
[36:05] Speaker 2: only bike that I need. Wow wow, unless I'm going
[36:09] Speaker 2: on longer tours than I'd rather have the multi Strata.
[36:16] Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean for just driving for a couple hours,
[36:20] Speaker 2: riding around you know, the Catskills are going up to
[36:24] Speaker 2: the Adirondacks, Like I, this is all I really need,
[36:27] Speaker 2: And I think it's a lot safer for me because,
[36:29] Speaker 2: like I said, if I'm on a twelve hundred cc
[36:33] Speaker 2: Testa Strada, you know, I feel like I'm wanting to
[36:37] Speaker 2: push the limits all the time. I just want to
[36:39] Speaker 2: go faster, I want to lean further, I want to
[36:43] Speaker 2: you know, get my adrenaline up, Whereas on this bike,
[36:46] Speaker 2: I'm just happy to have an open face helmet and
[36:50] Speaker 2: feel the wind blow my beard.
[36:52] Speaker 1: Like, you know, how has Mary you been on it?
[36:56] Speaker 3: She has.
[36:57] Speaker 2: When we went to Austin for the Moto GP, we
[37:00] Speaker 2: rented one and she rode on the back.
[37:03] Speaker 1: But I know she rides too, right, Yeah, I.
[37:06] Speaker 2: Was gonna say, like, I can imagine getting myself an
[37:10] Speaker 2: even bigger bike.
[37:11] Speaker 3: I got the Fat Bob, which is the Cruiser.
[37:13] Speaker 2: Right. I can imagine myself one day getting a road King,
[37:16] Speaker 2: which is a touring bike, and then letting her ride
[37:19] Speaker 2: the Cruiser.
[37:20] Speaker 1: Oh that could be cute.
[37:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, who knows.
[37:25] Speaker 1: I mean, maybe you ride it west, maybe you ride
[37:27] Speaker 1: it cross country for you know, Monterey Car Week, for instance.
[37:33] Speaker 2: If I had the days off, if I had the
[37:35] Speaker 2: time to.
[37:36] Speaker 1: Do that, maybe we do a Hot Pursuit podcast extravaganza
[37:41] Speaker 1: from Monterey Car Week.
[37:42] Speaker 2: Oh you know what we should point out before we
[37:45] Speaker 2: wrap it up that we are going to Lamont.
[37:48] Speaker 1: This is a really big deal. You guys everybody listening.
[37:51] Speaker 1: We are so excited about this. This is our first
[37:55] Speaker 1: co branded.
[37:57] Speaker 2: UH Group Tricks.
[38:00] Speaker 1: Field trip to Lamon the twenty four hour race in June.
[38:04] Speaker 2: I'm super pumped, especially because, well, I'm glad that you're
[38:08] Speaker 2: going with me, and I've never seen the twenty four
[38:13] Speaker 2: Have you been to Laman before?
[38:14] Speaker 1: I've been to the track, I have not been to
[38:16] Speaker 1: the race.
[38:17] Speaker 2: Okay, I have also not been to this twenty four
[38:20] Speaker 2: hour race or any twenty four hour race.
[38:24] Speaker 1: It's grueling. It is grueling, but it's fun.
[38:27] Speaker 2: I'm sure it'll be grueling. And also, I don't drink anymore,
[38:30] Speaker 2: so what do you do for twenty four hours? Well?
[38:33] Speaker 2: I don't.
[38:33] Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to that, because I do drink.
[38:35] Speaker 2: I would be crushing beers at a twenty four hour race.
[38:38] Speaker 1: Normally, but yeah, the year I went, it rained quite
[38:41] Speaker 1: a bit. But Laman back to Lavon.
[38:44] Speaker 2: So we have an incredible lineup of guests, which I'm
[38:47] Speaker 2: also excited, like Jim Farley CEO Ford is gonna join us.
[38:52] Speaker 2: And it's so significant because Henry Ford, you know, started
[38:59] Speaker 2: the factory after winning a race, and Henry the second
[39:03] Speaker 2: took the race to Ferrari, you know, and now I
[39:08] Speaker 2: think I heard that Bill Ford, who is the chairman,
[39:11] Speaker 2: his son Will is now working in the motorsports division.
[39:15] Speaker 2: So like racing means a lot to this family.
[39:20] Speaker 1: Dude, Racing is the backbone of a lot of car companies,
[39:23] Speaker 1: and I don't expect normal consumers to understand or care.
[39:27] Speaker 1: And even admittedly, you know, part of the reason I've
[39:30] Speaker 1: never been to Lamon to cover it is because as
[39:33] Speaker 1: an editorial decision, we don't think that our readers are
[39:36] Speaker 1: that interested. It's rather obscure, a niche. But the truth is,
[39:41] Speaker 1: races like Lamon Daytona, these endurance championships are the backbone
[39:47] Speaker 1: of the development and just the core identity of a
[39:50] Speaker 1: lot of these car brands, including Ford. You know, it's
[39:54] Speaker 1: not just Porsie, It's not just Ferrari and expensive sports cars.
[39:59] Speaker 1: It's also for.
[40:00] Speaker 2: Well and Cadillac, you know. I mean, I'm going I
[40:05] Speaker 2: initially got invited by my friend Tom Wagner, our buddy
[40:10] Speaker 2: from this podcast, because he owns the Joda World Endurance
[40:14] Speaker 2: Class racing team and they work with Cadillac. So and
[40:19] Speaker 2: they're going to be an F one and they're getting
[40:21] Speaker 2: increasingly involved in it. But you know, the funny thing
[40:23] Speaker 2: is it's really the trade war that led me to
[40:26] Speaker 2: cover this or got I think that helped me get
[40:31] Speaker 2: permission to cover this because normally my bosses would be like, no,
[40:33] Speaker 2: you're not going to Lama. But the global trade war
[40:36] Speaker 2: has shown a light on the fact that, you know,
[40:39] Speaker 2: most of global trade is cars, Like it's such a
[40:42] Speaker 2: big business for global trade. And Lamon is like the
[40:47] Speaker 2: original proving ground. If your car could make it through this,
[40:50] Speaker 2: then people would buy it.
[40:51] Speaker 1: And I think we should also say that Laman is
[40:54] Speaker 1: twenty four hours of driving and whoever goes the farthest wins.
[40:59] Speaker 1: It's a very simp pull concept. But imagine just driving
[41:04] Speaker 1: flat out for twenty four hours. Obviously you switch drivers,
[41:07] Speaker 1: but that's a very pure concept. When you talk about
[41:11] Speaker 1: approving ground, that's a very pure way to prove your
[41:14] Speaker 1: car's worth.
[41:15] Speaker 3: I'm surprised Alex Roy doesn't do this race.
[41:17] Speaker 2: It feels like it's made for him. Yeah, all right,
[41:22] Speaker 2: we got to wrap it up. That's all we have
[41:23] Speaker 2: time for today. But wait, how are we going to
[41:27] Speaker 2: do this next week? Are we going to do a podcast?
[41:30] Speaker 2: Before we? Wait?
[41:31] Speaker 1: Is next week that the weekend we have two weeks.
[41:34] Speaker 2: Okay, good.
[41:37] Speaker 1: I think we have same time, same place next week.
[41:39] Speaker 2: Actually, that's right.
[41:40] Speaker 3: I'm Matt Miller, and
[41:42] Speaker 1: I'm Hannah Elliott, and this is Bloomberg
