[0:00] Speaker 1: Welcome to immersion. You have reached Strata six. Trouble at
[0:04] Speaker 1: the bank. Animal instincts, The instinct to fight has been
[0:07] Speaker 1: observed in both humans and animals. Dominance protects vulnerable species
[0:12] Speaker 1: from harm. Neural circuits of rage, anger, and violence exist
[0:16] Speaker 1: because humans and animals need them to protect offspring and
[0:20] Speaker 1: to secure food, drink, and safety. But to be aroused
[0:24] Speaker 1: or entertained by violence is more particular to humans than
[0:27] Speaker 1: other species. Some humans have even fetishized the power of winning.
[0:32] Speaker 1: They seek it out and are physically stimulated by it.
[0:35] Speaker 1: This pleasure in violence, along with the thrill of danger,
[0:38] Speaker 1: comes from a deep innate human psychology. It is linked
[0:42] Speaker 1: to a desire for competition, thrills, and excitement, as well
[0:46] Speaker 1: as the promise of adrenaline, which humans find stimulating. Androids
[0:51] Speaker 1: do not experience pleasure in this way. They do not
[0:54] Speaker 1: experience the effects of pleasure chemicals like dopamine, or a
[0:58] Speaker 1: motivational salience, which can lead to the desirability of an outcome.
[1:02] Speaker 1: All androids, however, have been programmed to protect an asset
[1:05] Speaker 1: or assets at all costs. Often these goals will result
[1:09] Speaker 1: in violent acts, but the excitement of a fight remains
[1:13] Speaker 1: uniquely human and is a self motivated, self fulfilling exhilaration,
[1:17] Speaker 1: often irrespective of intellectual advancement. The oversized droid tried to
[1:22] Speaker 1: nudge Renicky into the chair. This small movement, a deliberate,
[1:26] Speaker 1: forceful action, raised alarm bells. This droid and this place
[1:30] Speaker 1: were dangerous. Pass was now completely unresponsive. The droids were
[1:34] Speaker 1: staring intently, too close for comfort. The finger clicking was
[1:38] Speaker 1: getting even more intense. Riniki took a few moments to
[1:42] Speaker 1: compose himself. I seem to have made a mistake, said Riniki.
[1:46] Speaker 1: I have nothing to exchange after all. Queene, looking worried
[1:50] Speaker 1: near the door, demanded access. To leave. Let me out.
[1:53] Speaker 1: This is not my affair, she said to the door guard,
[1:56] Speaker 1: who had stopped her exit with his thick arm. She
[1:59] Speaker 1: kicked his shin and he laughed. That just tickles, he said,
[2:02] Speaker 1: bending down and scowling in her face. Too close for comfort.
[2:06] Speaker 1: Still nothing from pos RINICKI realized he was on his own.
[2:11] Speaker 1: This was new. Total autonomy was not possible for artificially
[2:14] Speaker 1: created learning machines. There was always a system in place.
[2:18] Speaker 1: The system was paramount to seamless function. One of the
[2:22] Speaker 1: droids got closer to Renicky and explained, you gotta have
[2:25] Speaker 1: something useful for your friends at the bank. We like
[2:28] Speaker 1: useful things. Must be something nice you got for the banker.
[2:32] Speaker 1: The other droid looked at Rennick's bag. What's in the bag,
[2:36] Speaker 1: he said, moving forward to remove it from Renick's shoulder.
[2:40] Speaker 1: Maybeline crawled out on to Rennick's collar, snarling and spitting.
[2:44] Speaker 1: She was screeching violently and standing on her hind legs.
[2:48] Speaker 1: We take anything old phones, even anything with data or
[2:51] Speaker 1: storage or files, photos, n fts. We take hardware too.
[2:56] Speaker 1: Your bank is really friendly. The watch looks tasty. We
[2:59] Speaker 1: like watching at the bank, don't we like watches? His
[3:02] Speaker 1: thick set assistant nodded. Wires and cogs vibrated inside a
[3:06] Speaker 1: hole in his cheek. Suddenly pos was available again in
[3:09] Speaker 1: activated defense and attack modes. Rinicki engaged his bionics and
[3:13] Speaker 1: with lightning speed, head butted the first droid, who flew
[3:16] Speaker 1: back and smashed the other's head with the force of
[3:18] Speaker 1: a truck. Cogs crushed and whirred, and they both hit
[3:22] Speaker 1: the floor. Maybeline screeched and began removing wires from orifices
[3:26] Speaker 1: in the droid's heads. Then she stood victorious on her
[3:29] Speaker 1: hind legs, looking around for another victim. Human aged forty eight,
[3:34] Speaker 1: I d possibly David Schrewan, wanted for murder, extortion, fraud
[3:39] Speaker 1: by cassim. A short, well dressed man approached, trying to
[3:42] Speaker 1: calm the situation. He lifted his hands in surrender. He
[3:46] Speaker 1: was nervous without the protection of his now defunct droids.
[3:50] Speaker 1: The door guard held the female guide by the neck
[3:52] Speaker 1: and she was screaming, let us go. We're no trouble, honest,
[3:56] Speaker 1: no trouble. Quiet, said the door guard, squeezing her neck
[4:01] Speaker 1: tighter and choking her. My name is David Schrewan, and
[4:05] Speaker 1: I have a reputation to uphold, one of professionalism and integrity.
[4:09] Speaker 1: I must apologize for my over zealous staff. He put
[4:13] Speaker 1: his hand out to shake Renick's hand. Shall I lock
[4:16] Speaker 1: weapons on target, asked pos RENNICKI engaged an army issue
[4:20] Speaker 1: laser bolt gun in his hand that would take out
[4:22] Speaker 1: the whole room and anyone in it. He would prefer
[4:25] Speaker 1: not to use it, but he pointed it at Schrewan's face,
[4:28] Speaker 1: fixing a menacing stare. Dude, we got no issue here,
[4:32] Speaker 1: no issue, just data, a misunderstanding, my friend said Shrewan
[4:36] Speaker 1: drop the lady shouted Rennick, we are leaving. Let them go,
[4:41] Speaker 1: shouted Shrewan, without hesitation and putting on a brave, friendly smile.
[4:45] Speaker 1: The door guard released Queenie as the banker backed off
[4:48] Speaker 1: with his hands still in the air. Rinnicki reversed his
[4:51] Speaker 1: way towards the door, watching the room through his the
[4:54] Speaker 1: three hundred and sixty degree embedded viewfinder. There was a
[4:57] Speaker 1: bag on the counter contains bits. May I suggest we
[5:01] Speaker 1: take it? Said p o s Riniki grabbed the bag.
[5:04] Speaker 1: It was heavy, the banker protested, not the whole bag. Man,
[5:09] Speaker 1: I got bills to pay. Rinniki pulled out a handful
[5:12] Speaker 1: of the contents and threw the bag on the floor.
[5:15] Speaker 1: He didn't need it all enough to get some kind
[5:17] Speaker 1: of vehicle to get him to redact. The last thing
[5:20] Speaker 1: he wanted was a gang of stupid droids after him
[5:22] Speaker 1: in this hell hole. They might hold him up. The
[5:26] Speaker 1: banker was yelling as Ranuki and Queeny took their exit.
[5:30] Speaker 1: Shrewan was still shouting as they made their way back
[5:32] Speaker 1: through the market. You got some neat tools, man, we
[5:36] Speaker 1: could use you at the bank. To be continued
