[0:01] Speaker 1: News when you want it with Bloomberg News. Now, I'm
[0:03] Speaker 1: Doug Krisner. Crude oil prices are trading higher at this hour.
[0:07] Speaker 1: This is after President Trump rejected a seven day proposal
[0:10] Speaker 1: from Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Here is U.S.
[0:14] Speaker 1: Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz speaking on NBC's Meet
[0:17] Speaker 1: the Press.
[0:18] Speaker 2: You know, this was, I think, a pretty cynical attempt
[0:22] Speaker 2: to put something on the table that that they knew
[0:24] Speaker 2: was unacceptable. To ask for the release of the blockade,
[0:30] Speaker 2: the sanctions, international sanctions, and access to billions in assets
[0:36] Speaker 2: just to talk when we entered into a memorandum of
[0:40] Speaker 2: agreement just a few months ago when it was immediately
[0:42] Speaker 2: violated by attacking international shipping. I think it's kind of
[0:46] Speaker 2: common sense that the president doesn't have a lot of
[0:48] Speaker 2: confidence this time.
[0:49] Speaker 1: That is U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz speaking
[0:52] Speaker 1: on NBC's Meet the Press. Meantime, Axios reports President Trump
[0:57] Speaker 1: is expecting negotiations to resume this week. In Iran, Foreign
[1:01] Speaker 1: Minister Abbas Arachi said Tehran is prepared to resume fighting,
[1:06] Speaker 1: although it's not yet abandoned diplomacy. Here is Arachi speaking
[1:09] Speaker 1: on NBC's Meet the Press.
[1:11] Speaker 3: We stand firm in the face of any aggression against us,
[1:14] Speaker 3: even if it comes to a doomsday war. At the
[1:17] Speaker 3: same time, we are ready for diplomacy. But, and now,
[1:21] Speaker 3: there is a very reasonable plan on the table. If
[1:25] Speaker 3: they reject it with no reason, this is their fault.
[1:30] Speaker 3: And I have to say that although we heard from
[1:32] Speaker 3: President Trump that he is rejecting this deal, but we
[1:34] Speaker 3: are still waiting for an official response through the media.
[1:37] Speaker 1: That is Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Sarachi speaking on NBC's
[1:41] Speaker 1: Meet the Press.
[1:42] Speaker 4: The U.S.
[1:43] Speaker 1: And China have released a list of products recommended for
[1:46] Speaker 1: reduced tariff treatment on a reciprocal basis. This includes lower
[1:50] Speaker 1: tariffs on roughly $ 30 billion in goods imported into each country.
[1:55] Speaker 1: And the two sides also agreed to establish an agriculture
[1:58] Speaker 1: working group. that will meet before the end of the year.
[2:01] Speaker 1: Here is Dan Wang, China director at the Eurasia Group.
[2:05] Speaker 5: Last year was really the turning point. As soon as
[2:08] Speaker 5: Trump launched the Liberation Day tariff, actually he realized the
[2:12] Speaker 5: trade sanction didn't work on China. So this year, if
[2:15] Speaker 5: you look at what the U.S. side has been demanding,
[2:18] Speaker 5: it's essentially all those short-term purchase agreements that they hope
[2:21] Speaker 5: China could comply. But from the China side, these are
[2:24] Speaker 5: just a short-term concession they could make. Their focus is
[2:27] Speaker 5: more on the long-term strategy, like the positioning of the China-U.S.
[2:30] Speaker 5: relation and the Taiwan issue.
[2:32] Speaker 1: That was Dan Wong, China Director at the Eurasia Group. Meantime,
[2:37] Speaker 1: President Trump and Xi Jinping will reportedly meet two more
[2:40] Speaker 1: times this year after last week's summit in Washington, the
[2:44] Speaker 1: FT saying the presidents will meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic
[2:48] Speaker 1: Cooperation Forum in Shenzhen in November and the G20 meeting
[2:53] Speaker 1: in Miami in December. In the UK, five men have
[2:57] Speaker 1: been arrested near an airbase used by the United States.
[3:00] Speaker 1: The London Metropolitan Police received a call overnight related to
[3:04] Speaker 1: three suspicious vehicles traveling toward RAF Fairford. It is a
[3:09] Speaker 1: UK-owned base operated by the US, and it's been used
[3:12] Speaker 1: in the strikes against Iran. Authorities are investigating whether there
[3:16] Speaker 1: has been any involvement on the part of the Iranian state. Now,
[3:20] Speaker 1: the suspects were arrested on suspicion of offences under the
[3:23] Speaker 1: UK's Explosives Act. They were separately arrested on suspicion of
[3:28] Speaker 1: preparing a terrorist act. Here is councillor for Cotswold District,
[3:33] Speaker 1: Tristan Wilkinson.
[3:34] Speaker 6: There was a specific threat about six weeks ago from
[3:36] Speaker 6: the Iranians on this base at the time. There was
[3:40] Speaker 6: an increased surveillance around the area. This is an operational base.
[3:45] Speaker 6: It's no secret that we have American bombers here that
[3:50] Speaker 6: are taking part in what's happening in the Middle East
[3:52] Speaker 6: at the moment.
[3:53] Speaker 1: That is Tristan Wilkinson, councillor for Cotswold District in the UK. Now,
[3:58] Speaker 1: British authorities say the investigation is ongoing and a different
[4:02] Speaker 1: motive could emerge. Meantime, President Trump hailed the arrest and
[4:06] Speaker 1: he suggested the suspects had been under investigation by both
[4:10] Speaker 1: British and US authorities. President Trump says he's looking very
[4:14] Speaker 1: seriously at implementing a US ban on diesel fuel exports
[4:18] Speaker 1: as a way of combating higher prices.
[4:21] Speaker 2: Thinking about it very seriously, that can oftentimes lead to
[4:23] Speaker 2: a little bit of an increase on gasoline for cars.
[4:27] Speaker 1: Trump's remarks come after members of his administration continue to
[4:30] Speaker 1: focus on other possible steps. Meantime, oil industry CEOs are
[4:34] Speaker 1: pushing for a suspension of the federal diesel fuel excise tax.
[4:39] Speaker 1: They say it would ease prices without creating the drawbacks
[4:42] Speaker 1: of an export ban. We have seen a series of
[4:45] Speaker 1: high-profile security breaches carried out by cutting-edge AI models. On Friday,
[4:50] Speaker 1: OpenAI said it notified dozens of organizations whose websites may
[4:55] Speaker 1: have been hampered during OpenAI's evaluations of its technology. And
[5:00] Speaker 1: now OpenAI says it's paused training and evaluation of its
[5:03] Speaker 1: most advanced models. President Trump is having dinner this evening
[5:07] Speaker 1: with Anthropic CEO Dario Amadei. Trump said he planned to
[5:11] Speaker 1: discuss Amadei's recent calls for slowing down the pace of
[5:15] Speaker 1: new AI development. And this dinner comes ahead of a
[5:18] Speaker 1: meeting on Tuesday between administration officials and leaders of the
[5:22] Speaker 1: big AI firms. A rare September nor'easter forced the cancellation
[5:27] Speaker 1: of hundreds of flights. This storm slammed coastal towns stretching
[5:31] Speaker 1: from the mid-Atlantic to New England over the weekend. Here
[5:34] Speaker 1: is Bloomberg meteorologist Craig Allen.
[5:37] Speaker 4: This has been a stormy 48 hours, and it may
[5:40] Speaker 4: take another 24 to 36 hours before we could start
[5:43] Speaker 4: drying out. The nor'easter is going to weaken today, but
[5:46] Speaker 4: it is also going to stall. and then loop once
[5:49] Speaker 4: or twice before heading out to sea Tuesday.
[5:52] Speaker 1: That is Bloomberg meteorologist Craig Allen. Meantime, in Hawaii, Hurricane
[5:56] Speaker 1: Nolo is gaining speed as it moves away from the
[5:59] Speaker 1: Big Island. This is the third hurricane to impact the
[6:02] Speaker 1: Hawaiian islands within the last few weeks. And that is
[6:06] Speaker 1: news when you want it. With Bloomberg News Now, I'm
[6:08] Speaker 1: Doug Krisner, and this is Bloomberg.
